Too often scholars have thought and even suggested that what happened during and after Constantine was that the church sought to replace the pagan temples, priests, and sacrifices with their own. It's also worth pointing out that Israel is not solely comprised of Jewish people and is not the defining representation of the global Jewish community. The theological meaning of events in history is always filled with ambiguity, whether their significance is supported by centuries of tradition or is fresh in the minds of contemporaries.
