Without demolishing religious schools (madrassahs) and minarets and without abandoning the beliefs and ideas of the medieval age, restriction in thoughts and pains in conscience will not end. Without understanding that unbelief is a kind of religion, and that conservative religious belief a kind of disbelief, and without showing tolerance to opposite ideas, one cannot succeed. Those who look for the truth will accomplish the mission.
Mevlana Jalal ad-Din RUMI ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
Oh soul,
you worry too much.
You have seen your own strength.
You have seen your own beauty.
You have seen your golden wings.
Of anything less,
why do you worry?
You are in truth
the soul, of the soul, of the soul. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
If you want the moon, do not hide from the night.
If you want a rose, do not run from the thorns.
If you want love, do not hide from yourself. ~ Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi
Ten years ago a book appeared in France called D'Une foi l'autre, les conversions a l'Islam en Occident. The authors, both career journalists, carried out extensive interviews with new Muslims in Europe and America. Their conclusions are clear. Almost all educated converts to Islam come in through the door of Islamic spirituality. In the middle ages, the Sufi tariqas were the only effective engine of Islamisation in Muslim minority areas like Central Asia, India, black Africa and Java; and that pattern is maintained today.

Why should this be the case? Well, any new Muslim can tell you the answer. Westerners are in the first instance seeking not a moral path, or a political ideology, or a sense of special identity - these being the three commodities on offer among the established Islamic movements. They lack one thing, and they know it - the spiritual life. Thus, handing the average educated Westerner a book by Sayyid Qutb, for instance, or Mawdudi, is likely to have no effect, and may even provoke a revulsion. But hand him or her a collection of Islamic spiritual poetry, and the reaction will be immediately more positive. It is an extraordinary fact that the best-selling religious poet in modern America is our very own Jalal al-Din Rumi. Despite the immeasurably different time and place of his origin, he outsells every Christian religious poet.

Islam and the New Millennium ~ Abdal Hakim Murad
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Abdal Hakim Murad
Submission, when it is submission to the truth - and when the truth is known to be both beautiful and merciful - has nothing in common with fatalism or stoicism as these terms are understood in the Western tradition, because its motivation is different. According to Fakhr ad-Din ar-RazT, one of the great commentators upon the Quran: The worship of the eyes is
weeping, the worship of the ears is listening, the worship of the tongue is praise, the worship of the hands is giving, the worship of the body is effort, the worship of the heart is fear and hope, and the worship of the spirit is surrender and satisfaction in Allah. ~ Fakhr Al-Din Al-Razi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Fakhr Al-Din Al-Razi
Be always at work scraping the dirt from the well.
To everyone who suffers, perseverance brings good fortune.
The Prophet has said that each prostration of prayer is a knock on heaven's door. When anyone continues to knock, felicity shows its smiling face. ~ Rumi Muhammad Jalal Ud Din Balkhi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi Muhammad Jalal Ud Din Balkhi
That moon, which the sky ne'er saw even in dreams, has returned
And brought a fire no water can quench.
See the body' s house, and see my. soul,
This made drunken and that desolate by the cup of his love.
When the host of the tavern became my heart-mate,
My blood turned to wine and my heart to kabab.
When the eye is filled with thought of him, a voice arrives :
W ell done, O flagon, and bravo, wine!
Love's fingers tear up, root and stem,
Every house where sunbeams fall from love.
When my heart saw love's sea, of a sudden
It left me and leaped in, crying, , Find me.'
The face of Shamsi Din, Tabriz's glory, is the sun
In whose track the cloud-like hearts are moving ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
Love is the dancing cry of the soul,
Calling the body to worship
Like a shining whirlpool, or a spinning mayfly
So is love among the skies.
I leap across the mountaintops,
Madly singing the song of all songs
I float through the ether, intoxicated, thrilled
I think only of your love, your calling to me
And I dance the thousand dances of love,
All returning to you. ~ Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi
Words are a pretext. It is the inner bond that draws one person to another, not words. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
Silence gives answers. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
You cannot believe what you do not believe, Rumi siad. I am an Untouchable because my karma dictates it. ~ Christopher Moore
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Christopher Moore
It's always more than just a story. ~ A.D. Posey
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by A.D. Posey
As for a picture, if it isn't worth a thousand words, the hell with it. ~ Ad Reinhardt
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Ad Reinhardt
Believe in people, they fly for a day. Teach them to believe in themselves, they soar for a lifetime. ~ A.D. Posey
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by A.D. Posey
I-" Irsa took a careful breath to steady her words. " I have felt alone for most of my life. Until you." She placed the shell on his chest. " But I promise I won't feel alone anymore. I will never forget." She stood on shaky feet. "I will always remember."
"I love you Rahim al-Din Walad . Thank you for loving me in return. ~ Renee Ahdieh
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Renee Ahdieh
HUSAM

There is a way of passing away from the personal, a dying that makes one plural. A

gnat lights in buttermilk to become nourishment for many.
Your soul is like that, Husam.

Hundreds of thousands of impressions from the invisible world are eagerly wanting

to come through you! I get dizzy with the abundance. When life is this dear, it

means the source is pulling us. Freshness comes from there.
We're given the gift of

continuously dying and being resurrected, ocean within ocean.
The body's death now to me

is like going to sleep. No fear of drowning, I'm in another water. Stones don't dissolve

in rain. This is the end of the fifth book of the Masnavi.
With constellations in the night sky,

some look up and point. Others can be guided by the arrangements: the Sagittarian

bow piercing enemies, the Water Jar soaking fruit trees, the Bull plowing and sowing its

truth, the Lion tearing darkness open to red satin. Use these words to change. Be kind

and honest, and harmful poisons will turn sweet inside you. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
I bet any Sunday could be made as popular at church as Easter is if you made 'em fashion shows too. The audience is so busy looking at each other that the preacher just as well recite Gunga Din. ~ Will Rogers
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Will Rogers
Remember. The way you make love is the way God will be with you. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
My background is advertising: I moved to New York from London in 1998 to start up the U.S. office of ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty. ~ Cindy Gallop
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Cindy Gallop
Every moment, the sunlight
is totally empty and totally full. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
To the bankrupt poet, to the jilted lover, to anyone who yearns to elude the doubt within and the din without, the tidal strait between Manhattan Island and her favorite suburb offers the specious illusion of easy death. Melville prepared for the plunge from the breakwater on the South Street promenade, Whitman at the railing of the outbound ferry, both men redeemed by some Darwinian impulse, maybe some epic vision, which enabled them to change leaden water into lyric wine. Hart Crane rejected the limpid estuary for the brackish swirl of the Caribbean Sea. In each generation, from Washington Irving's to Truman Capote's, countless young men of promise and talent have examined the rippling foam between the nation's literary furnace and her literary playground, questioning whether the reams of manuscript in their Brooklyn lofts will earn them garlands in Manhattan's salons and ballrooms, wavering between the workroom and the water. And the city had done everything in its power to assist these men, to ease their affliction and to steer them toward the most judicious of decisions. It has built them a bridge. ~ Jacob M. Appel
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Jacob M. Appel
I want to emphasize the idea of black as intellectuality and conventionality. ~ Ad Reinhardt
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Ad Reinhardt
The movie Fifty Shades of Grey is considerably better written than the book. It is also sort of classy-looking, in a generic, TV-ad-for-bath-oil way. ~ Lisa Schwarzbaum
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Lisa Schwarzbaum
In the silence between your heartbeat bides a summons. Do you hear it? Name it if you must, or leave it forever nameless, but why pretend it is not there? ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
Every day sings its own song. ~ A.D. Posey
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by A.D. Posey
All change is due to time, therefore if you
Are freed from time, you're free from changing too. ~ Jalaluddin Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Jalaluddin Rumi
So, please people, if you know someone with AD(H)D, don't try to change that about them. Don't take that one skill away, or make them feel ashamed to use it. Sometimes procrastination is all they have in their little superhero tool belt! ~ Stacey Turis
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Stacey Turis
Jinnah's "Pakistan" did not entail the partition of India; rather it meant its regeneration into an union where Pakistan and Hindustan would join to stand together proudly against the hostile world without. This was no clarion call for pan-Islam; this was not pitting Muslim India against Hindustan; rather it was a secular vision of a polity where there was real political choice & safeguards, the India of Jinnah's dreams, a vision unfulfilled but noble nonetheless. ~ Ayesha Jalal
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Ayesha Jalal
In the year and a half I was on SNL, I never saw anybody ad lib anything. For a very good reason - the director cut according to the script. So, if you ad libbed, you'd be off mike and off camera. ~ Harry Shearer
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Harry Shearer
You have a mismatched pair of genetic characteristics. Either alone would have been useful, would have aided the survival of your species. But the two together are lethal. It was only a matter of time before they destroyed you."

[...]

Jdahya made a rustling noise that could have been a sigh, but that did not seem to comer from his mouth or throat. "You are intelligent," he said. "That's the newer of the two characteristics, and the one you might have put to work to save yourselves. You are potentially one of the most intelligent species we've found, though your focus is different from ours. Still, you had a good start in the life sciences, and even in genetics."

"What's the second characteristic?"

"You are hierarchical. That's the older and more entrenched characteristic. We saw it in your closest animal relatives and in your most distant ones. It's a terrestrial characteristic. When human intelligence served it instead of guiding it, when human intelligence did not even acknowledge it as problem, but took pride in it or din not notice it at all..." The rattling sounded again. ~ Octavia E. Butler
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Octavia E. Butler
Oh you, straying heart, just come! Oh you, aching liver, just come! If the path to the gate is closed, Take the way by the wall, but come! ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
The idea that a large group of people believing in something automatically makes it true is a logical fallacy called argumentum ad populum. ~ Armin Navabi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Armin Navabi
Love calls - everywhere and always. We're sky bound. Are you coming? ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
The Heart is your Student,
For love is the only way we learn. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
I ad lib. I've gotta bring my own into it. ~ Terrence Howard
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Terrence Howard
Didn't I tell you, Don't run away from me! Didn't I tell you, In this empty fantasy, Even if for centuries, you wander angrily You'll never find another true companion like me. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
What do you think of this stuff?' he asked.

I looked at the bottle and discovered that it contained a miracle udder liniment, guaranteed to reduce pain and swelling. 'I've seen the ad in the Dairy Exporter, but that's about it,' I said. 'Does it work?' Personally I doubted that it would, since it's a bit of a stretch to ask something you rub on the skin to kill the bacteria lurking in the tissues ten centimetres down, but I had learnt through bitter experience that belittling someone's pet alternative treatment is almost as offensive as telling them their kid looks funny. (My all-time low was attending a cat after-hours wearing a T-shirt which read Homeopathy, making damn-all difference since 1796, and then learning that the cat's owner was a certified homeopath.) ~ Danielle Hawkins
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Danielle Hawkins
Rumi called his teacher "the friend." And that's what we need. We need friends. ~ Elizabeth Lesser
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Elizabeth Lesser
I do not know who lives here in my chest, or why the smile comes. I am not myself, more the bare green knob of a rose that lost every leaf and petal to the morning wind. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
My soul Is Naked.
It wears The Transparent Garment Of Love. ~ Rumi
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Rumi
I run a charity. If my name pops up in your call ID, chances are I'm about to ask you for something - money, free ad space, your first born. So it is probably no surprise that people often don't take my calls. ~ Nancy Lublin
Jalal Ad Din Rumi quotes by Nancy Lublin
Little by little a person reaches forty and fifty and sixty, and feels more complete. God could've thrown full blown prophets flying through the cosmos in an instant. ~ Coleman Barks
