As he grew older, which was mostly in my absence, my firstborn son, Alexander, became ever more humorous and courageous. There came a time, as the confrontation with the enemies of our civilization became more acute, when he sent off various applications to enlist in the armed forces. I didn't want to be involved in this decision either way, especially since I was being regularly taunted for not having 'sent' any of my children to fight in the wars of resistance that I supported. (As if I could 'send' anybody, let alone a grown-up and tough and smart young man: what moral imbeciles the 'anti-war' people have become.) ~ Christopher Hitchens
Iraq War quotes by Christopher Hitchens
The Bush administration tells us that the Iraq was was central to the Global War on Terror. Its critics call the Iraq War a distraction. The disagreement is a fundamental one. The Bush administration advocates a policy of preemption that calls for targeting terrorists and the regimes that support them, with the goal of eliminating threats before they are imminent. Their opponents disagree. The central question, then, is this: Would it have been possible to wage a serious Global War on Terror leaving the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein in power? To answer it, we must consider what we knew before September 11 and what we knew before the Iraq War. ~ Stephen F. Hayes
Iraq War quotes by Stephen F. Hayes
Something under $50 billion for the cost. How much of that would be the U.S. burden, and how much would be other countries, is an open question. ~ Donald Rumsfeld
Iraq War quotes by Donald Rumsfeld
Destroying Iraq was the greatest strategic blunder this country has made in its history. Unless we change course, there's every reason to believe the Iraq War will end up changing the United States more than it will ever change Iraq. ~ Robert Baer
Iraq War quotes by Robert Baer
The Iraq War marked the beginning of the end of network news coverage. Viewers saw the juxtaposition of the embedded correspondents reporting the war as it was actually unfolding and the jaundiced, biased, negative coverage of these same events in the network newsrooms. ~ Dick Morris
Iraq War quotes by Dick Morris
Just as police and fire sirens reminded New Yorkers they were home, the sound of car bombs reminded me I was in Baghdad, which had become home for me. I was like a battered wife who can't leave the man abusing her. I had moved into stage four and assumed, as a matter of math, that I was going to die in Baghdad. But still I wanted to stay. ~ Richard Engel
Iraq War quotes by Richard Engel
Give me back the $800 billion for the Iraq war and children's television PBS is on the house. ~ Jon Stewart
Iraq War quotes by Jon Stewart
You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a (flag) pin. Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for, I think, true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest ... ~ Barack Obama
Iraq War quotes by Barack Obama
As you know, John McCain is an older, white-haired man who has been in the Senate for over twenty years, voted for the Iraq War, and said Barack Obama did not have the experience to be president. I'm sorry, that's our intro for next week when Joe Biden is on, I got confused. ~ Jay Leno
Iraq War quotes by Jay Leno
Dr. Rice's record on Iraq gives me great concern. In her public statements she clearly overstated and exaggerated the intelligence concerning Iraq before the war in order to support the President's decision to initiate military action against Iraq. ~ Carl Levin
Iraq War quotes by Carl Levin
No. That's someone else's business. Quagmire is - I don't do quagmires. ~ Donald Rumsfeld
Iraq War quotes by Donald Rumsfeld
The irony is that what was supposed to be a great vulnerability of Hillary Clinton , which the Iraq war vote which she has acknowledged was a terrible mistake, has lent an aura of strength in a funny way. ~ Joe Conason
Iraq War quotes by Joe Conason
I think you can be an enemy of Saddam Hussein even if Donald Rumsfeld is also an enemy of Saddam Hussein. ~ Adam Michnik
Iraq War quotes by Adam Michnik
I just didn't believe Bush. ~ Saddam Hussein
Iraq War quotes by Saddam Hussein
In America, we met this guy who'd been in the army. He'd been over in the Iraq war. He said that our CD helped him get through a hard time in the Iraq war. It's amazing to know that we helped him in some way. It's definitely cool. ~ Mattew Nicholls
Iraq War quotes by Mattew Nicholls
The term propaganda rings melodramatic and exaggerated, but a press that - whether from fear, careerism, or conviction - uncritically recites false government claims and reports them as fact, or treats elected officials with a reverence reserved for royalty, cannot be accurately described as engaged in any other function. ~ Glenn Greenwald
Iraq War quotes by Glenn Greenwald
Waving from side to side in the breeze, her long golden hair
shimmered as she handed Thomas a bottle of beer.
"When are you coming home to me?" She said eloquently. ~ Thomas Ferreolus
Iraq War quotes by Thomas Ferreolus
Trying to teach creativity is the major hoax of our time along with the Iraq war and plastic surgery"
~ Snarky comment of Clive from "The River Swimmer" (pg 47) ~ Jim Harrison
Iraq War quotes by Jim Harrison
The 'pre-emption' versus 'prevention' debate may be a distinction without much difference. The important thing is to have it understood that the United States is absolutely serious. The jihadists have in the past bragged that America is too feeble and corrupt to fight. A lot is involved in disproving that delusion on their part. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Iraq War quotes by Christopher Hitchens
I didn't want to write a 'this is how it is' Iraq book, because the Iraq War is an intensely complicated variety of things. ~ Phil Klay
Iraq War quotes by Phil Klay
The problem is that Iran has been identified as a dangerous enemy, and the longer the media forwards that proposition - and the media is guilty, just as it was in the Iraq war - then the easier it becomes for Americans to accept that we might just have to resort to military force to remove any Iranian threat. ~ Hooman Majd
Iraq War quotes by Hooman Majd
Genocide is the responsibility of the entire world. ~ Ann Clwyd
Iraq War quotes by Ann Clwyd
We have a substantial number of countries that have pledged and provided all kinds of support for the United States in the event that war becomes necessary in Iraq. ~ Douglas Feith
Iraq War quotes by Douglas Feith
Our relationship with the United States is not reduced to questions of fighting terrorism and the Iraq war. German-American relations were so good for so many years because they extended deeply into the normal lives of people. ~ Angela Merkel
Iraq War quotes by Angela Merkel
The intention of the United States government in supporting Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war was to curb the spread of Iran's revolution, but it had the more disastrous effect of curbing its evolution. ~ Reza Aslan
Iraq War quotes by Reza Aslan
It was my assumption that skilled teachers spent their days imparting important and meaningful knowledge to eager students. I also believed, as many of you do, that I didn't remember or wasn't good at the things we learned in high school because I didn't pay close enough attention or didn't work hard enough. ~ Brian Huskie
Iraq War quotes by Brian Huskie
I feel like I partly came to writing through being in college during the start of the Iraq war, and knowing that those issues mattered lot to me, and wanting to go see for myself. ~ Sarah Stillman
Iraq War quotes by Sarah Stillman
Going to school is rarely a choice at all, but rather just the thing you do because everyone else does it. ~ Brian Huskie
Iraq War quotes by Brian Huskie
We are helping the people that [George W.]Bush says are evil. Teheran couldn't be happier about the high oil prices resulting from the Iraq war. ~ Joseph Stiglitz
Iraq War quotes by Joseph Stiglitz
Kissinger warned about the dangers of dealing with the Soviet Union precisely at the moment that Reagan was able to achieve real accomplishments with Gorbachev. In later years he would move closer to the neocons, ultimately becoming a prominent supporter of the Iraq war - another sign of Kissinger`s almost infallible ability to get it wrong. ~ Jacob Heilbrunn
Iraq War quotes by Jacob Heilbrunn
Obama occasionally pointed out that the post–Cold War moment was always going to be transitory. The rest of the world will accede to American leadership, but not dominance. I remember a snippet from a column around 9/11: America bestrides the world like a colossus. Did we? It was a story we told ourselves. Shock and awe. Regime change. Freedom on the march. A trillion dollars later, we couldn't keep the electricity running in Baghdad. The Iraq War disturbed other countries - including U.S. allies - in its illogic and destruction, and accelerated a realignment of power and influence that was further advanced by the global financial crisis. By the time Obama took office, a global correction had already taken place. Russia was resisting American influence. China was throwing its weight around. Europeans were untangling a crisis in the Eurozone.

Obama didn't want to disengage from the world; he wanted to engage more. By limiting our military involvement in the Middle East, we'd be in a better position to husband our own resources and assert ourselves in more places, on more issues. To rebuild our economy at home. To help shape the future of the Asia Pacific and manage China's rise. To open up places like Cuba and expand American influence in Africa and Latin America. To mobilize the world to deal with truly existential threats such as climate change, which is almost never discussed in debates about American national security. ~ Ben Rhodes
Iraq War quotes by Ben Rhodes
The Vietnam War and the Iraq war, in different ways, both made me feel like I could not not address them. I'm very doubtful about the usefulness of poetry to do that. ~ Robert Hass
Iraq War quotes by Robert Hass
I was the first blogger on the 'Times's website. That happened during the Iraq war, when I wanted an outlet for the things I was seeing every day that couldn't fit into just two columns a week. Then I became interested in using multimedia, specifically as a way to engage young people. ~ Nicholas Kristof
Iraq War quotes by Nicholas Kristof
There is no doubt that the regime of Saddam Hussein possesses weapons of mass destruction. As this operation continues, those weapons will be identified, found, along with the people who have produced them and who guard them. ~ Tommy Franks
Iraq War quotes by Tommy Franks
I'm sure if Socrates were alive today, and had to sit through even a single meeting discussing how to use data to inform instruction, he'd kill himself all over again. ~ Brian Huskie
Iraq War quotes by Brian Huskie
The Iraq war is a huge subject and there have been many films about it. But it was when the private contractors started taking over and taking responsibilities from the regular army, which hides the war. You have these private armies of mercenaries acting with immunity for their actions, the worst of which was the Blackwater case where they killed 17 Iraqi civilians and the guys who did it just went home. We [screenwriter Paul Laverty and Loach] felt this deserved a story. ~ Ken Loach
Iraq War quotes by Ken Loach
He was like an extrovert who wanted to be an introvert, a very social guy who wanted to be a loner, a lucky person who would have preferred to be unlucky. An optimist posing as a pessimist, hoping people will take heed. It wasn't until the Iraq War and the end of his life that he became sincerely gloomy. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Iraq War quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
The desert is an unpredictable place. One day you're sweating, the next you're freezing. One moment the air is damp and cloudy like when the tide is coming in, the next the entire world is orange and dusty. The desert must be a woman. ~ Dianna Skowera
Iraq War quotes by Dianna Skowera
It is impossible to exaggerate the wide, and widening, gulf between the American attitude on the Iraq war and the view from our friends across the Atlantic. ~ Nick Clooney
Iraq War quotes by Nick Clooney
John Howard's credibility on the entire Iraq war has been torpedoed by John Howard's own intelligence agency. ~ Kevin Rudd
Iraq War quotes by Kevin Rudd
"My fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended." Under the banner "Mission Accomplished." ~ George W. Bush
Iraq War quotes by George W. Bush
One of the lessons of Vietnam, which we failed to heed in the Iraq war and the Afghanistan surge, is that before you commit U.S. military forces to aid or assist, it is essential to know what you want them to achieve. ~ Kathleen Troia McFarland
Iraq War quotes by Kathleen Troia McFarland
The Iraq War. No one took to the streets over it. It certainly would have been appropriate. If anybody even hinted we should ... you were called un-American and not supporting the troops. ~ Hank Azaria
Iraq War quotes by Hank Azaria
Those people who want to express their religious beliefs on public property should enjoy the same rights that we provide to those protesting the war in Iraq. ~ Ernest Istook
Iraq War quotes by Ernest Istook
A president who is burdened with a failed and unpopular war, and who has lost the trust of the country, simply can no longer govern. He is destined to become as much a failure as his war. ~ Glenn Greenwald
Iraq War quotes by Glenn Greenwald
Will an Iraq war make our Al Qaeda problem worse? Not likely. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Iraq War quotes by Christopher Hitchens
So before and during the war, the Bush administration had to build up an image in people's minds of Iraq as a monstrous military superpower, in order to mobilize enough popular hysteria so that people here would go along with their policies. And again, the media did their job 100 percent. So I don't know how well you remember what was going on around the country back then, but people were literally quaking in their boots about the extraordinary might of Iraq―it was a superpower with artillery we'd never dreamt of, all this kind of stuff.93 I mean, this was a defenseless Third World country that was so weak it had been unable to defeat post-revolutionary Iran in eight years of warfare [from 1980 to '88]―and that was with the support of the United States, the Soviet Union, all of Europe, the Arab oil countries: not an inconsiderable segment of world power. Yet with all those allies, Iraq had been unable to defeat post-revolutionary Iran, which had killed off its own officers' corps and barely had an army left: all of a sudden this was the superpower that was going to conquer the world? You really had to be a deeply brainwashed Western intellectual even to look at this image―a defenseless Third World country threatening the two most advanced military forces in the world, the United States and Britain―and not completely collapse in ridicule. But as you recall, that's what all of them were saying―and people here really believed it. ~ Noam Chomsky
Iraq War quotes by Noam Chomsky
Thomas Jefferson once said: 'Of course the people don't want war. But the people can be brought to the bidding of their leader. All you have to do is tell them they're being attacked and denounce the pacifists for somehow a lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.' I think that was Jefferson. Oh wait. That was Hermann Goering. Shoot.
[Hosting the Peabody Awards for broadcasting excellence at the New York Waldorf-Astoria, June 6, 2006] ~ Jon Stewart
Iraq War quotes by Jon Stewart
In 1980 we declared the globe free of smallpox. It was the largest campaign in United Nations history until the Iraq war. A hundred and fifty thousand people from all over the world, doctors of every race, religion, culture and nation, who fought side by side, brothers and sisters, with each other, not against each other, in a common cause to make the world better. ~ Larry Brilliant
Iraq War quotes by Larry Brilliant
It smelled like a slaughterhouse. I was standing in the interrogation room of Saddam Hussein's Abu Ghraib prison on the outskirts of Baghdad. A stench of blood and death permeated my senses, my clothes, my being. ~ Bernard B. Kerik
Iraq War quotes by Bernard B. Kerik
I would add entertainment media cheerleader Wolf Blitzer, CNN's Pentagon sycophant in Kuwait City, a representative of the neon press, neon being that colorless, inert gas that lights up on command. ~ Stan Goff
Iraq War quotes by Stan Goff
A poll when Blair left said that 69 per cent of people reckoned Blair's legacy would be the Iraq War. I think that ignores his real record of achievement in dismantling the Labour movement. It's amazing to think that the huge effort he went to creating a massive cash-for-honours scandal will be overshadowed. Blair was said to be saddened that he hasn't managed to serve for as many years as Thatcher. Instead he will have to content himself with having killed more women and children than Genghis Khan. Ironically, for a man who is so obsessed with legacy, his memory will live on longer than most politicians - as a ghost story that Iraqi mothers use to frighten their children. That said, I do think that Blair stands a good chance of success in his new role of Peace Envoy. There's a real chance that all those different groups in the Middle East will join together to try and kill him. In six months time he could be putting an end to years of suffering as he is sacrificed on an altar in the centre of Baghdad while everyone celebrates like it's the end of a Star Wars movie. ~ Frankie Boyle
Iraq War quotes by Frankie Boyle
Genius, scholar, and war hero though he is, you have to admit - or maybe you should think about admitting - that George Bush might have rushed things a little in invading Iraq. ~ Alan Colmes
Iraq War quotes by Alan Colmes
It was Harry Patch, who was the last living World War I veteran; and by veteran I mean someone who actually fought in the war, he didn't just happen to be in the army at that time, in the Great War. And when the Iraq War started, he was interviewed, and they said, well what do you think of this? And he said, in a very sad voice, "Well, that's why my mates died. We thought we were going to end all that sort of thing." ~ Jacqueline Winspear
Iraq War quotes by Jacqueline Winspear
Iraq had forced massive changes to the Army's equipment, training, and strategy. But the most important legacy of the war had been cultural. The war had upended most of the service's basic assumption about how it should fight, undermining the Powell Doctrine with its emphasis on short, intense wars not replacing it with anything nearly so straightforward. Chiarelli wasn't sure he could predict what the next war would look like. But he knew what kind of officers would be needed. He wanted an officer corps that argued, debated, and took intellectual risks. Even that laudable goal was far from accepted within the Army. ~ David Cloud
Iraq War quotes by David Cloud
Some lurid things have been said about me - that I am a racist, a hopeless alcoholic, a closet homosexual and so forth - that I leave to others to decide the truth of. I'd only point out, though, that if true these accusations must also have been true when I was still on the correct side, and that such shocking deformities didn't seem to count for so much then. Arguing with the Stalinist mentality for more than three decades now, and doing a bit of soapboxing and street-corner speaking on and off, has meant that it takes quite a lot to hurt my tender feelings, or bruise my milk-white skin. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Iraq War quotes by Christopher Hitchens
It struck me that such analyses had it backward. It's the American public for whom the Iraq War is often no more real than a video game. Five years into this war, I am not always confident most Americans fully appreciate the caliber of the people fighting for them, the sacrifices they have made, and the sacrifices they continue to make. After the Vietnam War ended, the onus of shame largely fell on the veterans. This time around, if shame is to be had when the Iraq conflict ends - and all indications are there will be plenty of it - the veterans are the last people in America to deserve it. When it comes to apportioning shame my vote goes to the American people who sent them to war in a surge of emotion but quickly lost the will to either win it or end it. The young troops I profiled in Generation Kill, as well as the other men and women in uniform I've encountered in combat zones throughout Iraq and Afghanistan, are among the finest people of their generation. We misuse them at our own peril. ~ Evan Wright
Iraq War quotes by Evan Wright
Most people here agree that the rhetoric got overblown on both sides of the Atlantic before the Iraq war, and it was a disagreement among friends over the timing, not the substance, of the Iraq war. ~ John S. Tanner
Iraq War quotes by John S. Tanner
The Arabs were Germany's natural friends ... They were therefore prepared to cooperate with Germany with all their hearts and stood ready to participate in a war, not only negatively in the commission of acts of sabotage and the instigation of revolutions, but also positively by the formation of the Arab Legion. In this struggle, the Arabs were striving for the independence and the unity of Palestine, Syria and Iraq ... ~ Haj Amin Al-Husseini
Iraq War quotes by Haj Amin Al-Husseini
Most people think the Iraq war has increased the probability of an attack. However, it's difficult to put this aspect into financial terms. ~ Joseph Stiglitz
Iraq War quotes by Joseph Stiglitz
No matter what you think about the Iraq war, there is one thing we can all agree on for the next days - we have to salute the courage and bravery of those who are risking their lives to vote and those brave Iraqi and American soldiers fighting to protect their right to vote. ~ Hillary Clinton
Iraq War quotes by Hillary Clinton
...the Iraq war was the Ishtar of wars. ~ Meg Wolitzer
Iraq War quotes by Meg Wolitzer
The Iraq war was not necessary. ~ Scott McClellan
Iraq War quotes by Scott McClellan
They [American forces] are there as an expression of the American national interest to prevent the Iranian combination of imperialism and fundamentalist ideology from dominating a region on which the energy supplies of the industrial democracies depend. ~ Henry A. Kissinger
Iraq War quotes by Henry A. Kissinger
I'd been in college studying English creative writing and history when I made the decision to join the Marines in the runup to the Iraq war. ~ Phil Klay
Iraq War quotes by Phil Klay
It's a pity both sides can't lose (commenting on Iran-Iraq war, 1980 – 1988) ~ Henry Kissinger
Iraq War quotes by Henry Kissinger
The fact that war is the word we use for almost everything - on terrorism, drugs, even poverty - has certainly helped to desensitize us to its invocation; if we wage wars on everything, how bad can they be? ~ Glenn Greenwald
Iraq War quotes by Glenn Greenwald
The Iran-Iraq war began the same year that I went to primary school, at the age of six. ~ Hassan Blasim
Iraq War quotes by Hassan Blasim
I think the Iraq War is not particularly tailored to American interests. ~ Peter Brimelow
Iraq War quotes by Peter Brimelow
Yes, I did have to struggle very hard to get this [the vote on the Iraq war] through, but the reason I did it was because I thought it was the right thing to do. I didn't take this on myself ... just because I thought, 'Let's give myself a really hard time for a couple of years! ~ Tony Blair
Iraq War quotes by Tony Blair
This war has been motivated by pride or arrogance, by a desire to control oil wealth, by a desire to implant our programs. (talking about the Iraq war) ~ Jimmy Carter
Iraq War quotes by Jimmy Carter
No one has yet demonstrated Iraq's compliance with its disarmament obligations, nor has anyone ever accounted for its missing weapons stocks, much less disputed that they are missing. Nor has anyone conclusively explained why a nation under sanctions for failing to comply with its disarmament obligations was for twelve years incapable of documenting its supposed compliance after claiming to comply. And yet somehow, in a truly Orwellian inversion, the burden for finding Iraqi WMDs has become ours, not Iraq's, to discharge. ~ Irfan Khawaja
Iraq War quotes by Irfan Khawaja
The cable is evidence of a widespread US policy during the occupation of shooting first and asking questions later, as well as detaining anyone and everyone "suspected" of having any links to attacks on US forces. ~ Dahr Jamail
Iraq War quotes by Dahr Jamail
In recent weeks, I have heard former Associated Press reporter Ron Fournier on Fox News twice asserting, quite offhandedly, that President George W. Bush 'lied us into war in Iraq.' ~ Laurence Silberman
Iraq War quotes by Laurence Silberman
Iraq war has made us overlook domestic agenda. ~ Mike Huckabee
Iraq War quotes by Mike Huckabee
And for once, Donald Rumsfeld, in the news at the time over the Iraq war made sense to me: "As we know," he said, famously, "there are known knowns-things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns-things we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns- things we don't know we don't know. ~ Benjamin Mee
Iraq War quotes by Benjamin Mee
When we neared the orchard a flock of birds lit from its outer rows. They hadn't been there long. The branches shook with their absent weight and the birds circled above in the riddy mackerel sky, where they made an artless semaphore. I was afraid, I smelled copper and cheap wine. The sun was up, but a half-moon hung low on the opposite horizon, cutting through the morning sky like a figure from a child's pull-tab book.
We were lined along the ditch up to our ankles in a soupy muck. It all seemed in that moment to be the conclusion of a poorly designed experiment in inevitability. Everything was in its proper place, waiting for a pause in time, for the source of all momentum to be stilled, so that what remained would be nothing more than detritus to be tallied up. The world was paper-thin as far as I could tell. And the world was the orchard, and the orchard was what came next. But none of that was true. I was only afraid of dying. ~ Kevin Powers
Iraq War quotes by Kevin Powers
With a small fraction of the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on the Iraq war, the US and Australia could ensure every starving, sunken-eyed child on the planet could be well fed, have clean water and sanitation and a local school to go to. ~ Bob Brown
Iraq War quotes by Bob Brown
I wanted to fight in the Iraq war because I felt like I had an obligation as a human being to help free people from oppression. ~ Edward Snowden
Iraq War quotes by Edward Snowden
The reality is no one knows how much it will cost us to wage war with Iraq. ~ Kent Conrad
Iraq War quotes by Kent Conrad
During the run up to the Iraq War, Mike Farrell and I did get on television kind of frequently, but then they saw that that didn't work. They really couldn't bait us into being stupid, so they stopped. You know the mainstream media, corporate media, avoids ever giving anyone who has anything to say a platform, if they can possibly help it. ~ James Cromwell
Iraq War quotes by James Cromwell
I know that my Republican colleagues are as ashamed as I am that the United States is forced to borrow over $1 trillion from foreign nations to pay for our national priorities like reconstruction of the gulf coast and the war in Iraq. ~ Dennis Cardoza
Iraq War quotes by Dennis Cardoza
Can we please rename The Sandy Relief Bill to the Supplemental Iraq War Funding Bill so the GOP Congress can vote for it? ~ John Fugelsang
Iraq War quotes by John Fugelsang
The notion that the press was used in the [first Iraq] war is incorrect. The press wanted to be used. It saw itself as part of the war effort. ~ Chris Hedges
Iraq War quotes by Chris Hedges
According to various polls conducted, the single most important issue in last week's election was not the Iraq War, not the War on Terror, not even the economy. It was the cultural war. ~ John Doolittle
Iraq War quotes by John Doolittle
And I am not pleased
I am not very pleased
None of this fits into my notion of "things going very well ~ June Jordan
Iraq War quotes by June Jordan
The Democrats were in the majority in the U.S. Senate when we voted for the Iraq war and passed the U.S. Patriot Act. It's not enough to be in the majority, you have to stand for something. ~ Russ Feingold
Iraq War quotes by Russ Feingold
No country in history ever sent mothers of toddlers off to fight enemy soldiers until the United States did this in the Iraq war. ~ Phyllis Schlafly
Iraq War quotes by Phyllis Schlafly
I think that horror films have a very direct relationship to the time in which they're made. The films that really strike a film with the public are very often reflecting something that everyone, consciously or unconsciously feeling - atomic age, post 9-11, post Iraq war; it's hard to predict what people are going to be afraid of. ~ Eli Roth
Iraq War quotes by Eli Roth
We have now reached a turning point in the struggle between freedom and terror. ~ George W. Bush
Iraq War quotes by George W. Bush
Our opponent and many in Congress criticized our decision to end the Iraq war. ~ David Plouffe
Iraq War quotes by David Plouffe
I may have been in stage four, but I wasn't completely crazy. At least eighty-six journalists had been killed in Iraq, more than in any other conflict since World War II, and another thirty-eight had been taken hostage. More would die in the years to come. I knew I had to limit my movements and take special care when I did go out. ~ Richard Engel
Iraq War quotes by Richard Engel
The US was forced to withdraw troops from Iraq after an extremely costly decade-long military occupation, leaving in place a regime more closely allied to Iran, the US' regional adversary. The Iraq war depleted the economy, deprived American corporations of oil wealth, greatly enlarged Washington's budget and trade deficits, and reduced the living standards of US citizens. The Afghanistan war had a similar outcome, with high external costs, military retreat, fragile clients, domestic disaffection, and no short or medium term transfers of wealth (imperial pillage) to the US Treasury or private corporations. The Libyan war led to the total destruction of a modern, oil-rich economy in North Africa, the total dissolution of state and civil society, and the emergence of armed tribal, fundamentalist militias opposed to US and EU client regimes in North and sub-Sahara Africa and beyond. Instead ~ James F. Petras
Iraq War quotes by James F. Petras
With chemical film, it was possible to alter photographs, but you had to be an expert. That's not true any more. The LA Times fired a photographer at the beginning of the Iraq War for editing two shots together. Photography is crumbling. Certainly it is for the newspapers a bit now, isn't it? There will be painting again, absolutely! ~ David Hockney
Iraq War quotes by David Hockney
New Rule: Just because a country elects a smart president doesn't make it a smart country. A couple of weeks ago, I was asked on CNN if I thought Sarah Palin could get elected president, and I said I hope not, but I wouldn't put anything past this stupid country. Well, the station was flooded with emails, and the twits hit the fan. And you could tell that these people were really mad, because they wrote entirely in CAPITAL LETTERS!!! Worst of all, Bill O'Reilly refuted my contention that this is a stupid country by calling me a pinhead, which (a) proves my point, and (b) is really funny coming from a doody-face like him.

Now, before I go about demonstration how, sadly, easy it is to prove the dumbness that's dragging us down, let me just say that ignorance has life-and-death consequences. On the eve of the Iraq War, seventy percent of Americans thought Saddam Hussein was personally involved in 9/11. Six years later, thirty-four percent still do. Or look at the health-care debate: At a recent town hall meeting in South Carolina, a man stood up and told his congressman to "keep your government hands off my Medicare," which is kind of like driving cross-country to protest highways.

This country is like a college chick after two Long Island iced teas: We can be talked into anything, like wars, and we can be talked out of anything, like health care. We should forget the town halls, and replace them with study halls.

Listen to some of these stats: ~ Bill Maher
Iraq War quotes by Bill Maher
It's disingenous for me to say that I wasn't trying to write a moral novel. By its very nature as a novel about the Iraq War, Fobbit steps into the political conversation. There's no way to avoid that. I can appreciate that readers are probably going to line up on one side of the novel or the other. I hope they go to those polar extremes, actually. ~ Dave Abrams
Iraq War quotes by Dave Abrams
The Iraq war that I signed up for was launched on false premises. The American people were misled. Now, whether that was due to bad faith or simply mistakes in intelligence, I can't say for sure. But I can say it shows the problem of putting too much faith in intelligence systems without debating them in public. ~ Edward Snowden
Iraq War quotes by Edward Snowden
We, Britain and Germany, can neither of us be happy about our handling of the Iraq war. ~ Douglas Hurd
Iraq War quotes by Douglas Hurd
Ensuring that our home planet is healthy and life sustaining is an overwhelming priority that undercuts all other human activities. The ship must first float.
Our failure to grasp these fundamental tenants of existence will be our undoing. And one thing is for certain. No calvary is going to come charging to our rescue. We are going to have to rescue ourselves or die trying.
Workable solutions are urgently needed. Saving seals and tigers or fighting yet another oil pipeline through a wilderness area, while laudable, is merely shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. The real issue is our elementary accord with Earth and the plant and animal kingdoms has to be revitalized and re-understood.
The burning question is, How? ~ Lawrence Anthony
Iraq War quotes by Lawrence Anthony
War is politics for everyone but the warrior. ~ Tiffany Madison
