We know that silence equals consent when atrocities are committed against innocent men, women and children. We know that indifference equals complicity when bigotry, hatred and intolerance are allowed to take root. And we know that education and hope are the most effective ways to combat ignorance and despair. ~ Gabrielle Giffords
Innocent Man quotes by Gabrielle Giffords
An innocent man, if accused, can be acquitted; a guilty man, unless accused, cannot be condemned. It is, however, more advantageous to absolve an innocent than not to prosecute a guilty man. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
Innocent Man quotes by Marcus Tullius Cicero
Is this what she would have wanted, Hawke?" Ronan asked quietly. "Justice at the cost of an innocent man and his child? ~ Sloane Kennedy
Innocent Man quotes by Sloane Kennedy
A guilty man is punished as an example for the mob; an innocent man convicted is the business of every honest citizen. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
Innocent Man quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
I had trouble putting the book down - at least, it was very hard to do whenever I was forced to by other obligations. I received it in the mail on a Thursday and finished it that following Sunday night (this is FAST for me, given everything else I have on my plate).

Anyway, this book is amazing - I was quite literally floored by the information it contained as it was stuff I hadn't heard about due to selective (heavily slanted against Jackson) media coverage at the time.

I was like a lot of people back then . . . I thought that MJ might have very well been guilty of the accusations and I remember feeling a bit annoyed that he "got off" when the jury found him not guilty.

Well, since then I have realized that my knowledge of all the facts of the case (as well as the 1993 allegations) was sorely lacking and I've done a complete about-face with regard to Michael Jackson.

It's clear to me now that the "accusers" were a bunch of frauds (I do recall feeling a bit skeptical about them at the time but didn't explore those suspicions further, as I was also doubtful about Jackson's innocence). When the testimony and facts are taken into consideration it becomes glaringly obvious that Michael Jackson was an innocent man who was taken advantage of on numerous occasions.

Innocent Man quotes by
But what actually matters are the hundreds of small things that the powerful do - or don't do - to establish their legitimacy, like sleeping in the bed of an innocent man you just shot accidentally and scattering your belongings around his house. ~ Malcolm Gladwell
Innocent Man quotes by Malcolm Gladwell
There is no client as scary as an innocent man.
J. Michael Haller, Criminal Defense Attorney, Los Angeles, 1962. ~ Michael Connelly
Innocent Man quotes by Michael Connelly
{T}hen he whispered something that turned Reed pale and bloodless--and that Reed wouldn't tell about until years later. 'You're the one lied about Meadow Creek,' Kelly said. 'Lied about finding her. Why would you do that to me?'

We left him there as the drawknife of dusk peeled back the world. ~ Matthew Neill Null
Innocent Man quotes by Matthew Neill Null
It takes balls to execute an innocent man. ~ Rick Perry
Innocent Man quotes by Rick Perry
Leaning toward a certain party is one thing (Matthew did it, Simon did it, and Jesus allowed it), but it is important to see that a partisan spirit can actually run against the Spirit of God. If there ever was a partisan crowd in the Bible, it was the crowd that pressured Pilate to crucify Jesus instead of Barabbas. Barabbas, a true criminal, went free while Jesus, an innocent man, was executed after having his impeccable character assassinated. This is the essence of partisanship. Partisans inflate the best features of their party while inflating the worst features, real or contrived, of the other party. They ignore the weaknesses of their own party while dismissing the other party's strengths. I have good friends on both sides of the political aisle. I trust them. Many of them - on both sides - have a strong commitment to their faith. Because of this I grow perplexed when Christian men and women willingly participate in spin - ready, willing, and armed to follow the world in telling half-truths to promote their candidates, while telling more half-truths to demonize their opponents. Have we forgotten that a half-truth is the equivalent of a full lie? What's more, political spin is polarizing even within the community of faith. ~ Scott Sauls
Innocent Man quotes by Scott Sauls
Government mitigates the inequality of power, and makes an innocent man, though of the lowest rank, a match for the mightiest of his fellow-subjects. ~ Joseph Addison
Innocent Man quotes by Joseph Addison
Both Tom and I adore detective stories. Isn't that so, Tom?" [Lady Brace]
"Right!" agreed her husband ... "But they've got to be proper detective stories. They've got to present a tricky, highly sophisticated problem, which you're given fair opportunity to solve."
"And," amplified Virginia, "no saying they're psychological studies when the author can't write for beans."
"Correct!" her husband agreed again. "Couldn't care less when you're supposed to get all excited as to whether the innocent man will be hanged or the innocent heroine will be seduced. Heroine ought to be seduced; what's she there for? The thing is the mystery. It's not worth reading if the mystery is simple or easy or no mystery at all. ~ Carter Dickson
Innocent Man quotes by Carter Dickson
More to the point, what was the lesson that the first Christians drew from crucifixion? Today such a barbarity might galvanize people into opposing brutal regimes, or demanding that such torture never again be inflicted on a living creature. But those weren´t the lessons the early Christians drew at all. No, the execution of Jesus is The Good News, a necessary step in the most wonderful episode in history. In allowing the crucifixion to take place, God did the world an incalculable favor. Though infinitely powerful, compassionate, and wise, he could think of no other way to reprieve humanity from punishment for its sins (in particular, for the sin of being descended from a couple who had disobeyed him) that to allow, an innocent man (his son no less) to be impaled through the limbs and slowly suffocate in agony. By acknowledging that this sadistic murder was a gift of divine mercy, people could earn eternal life. And if they failed to see the logic in all this, their flesh would be seared by fire for all eternity. ~ Steven Pinker
Innocent Man quotes by Steven Pinker
It is better to let 100 criminals go free than to imprison 1 innocent man. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Innocent Man quotes by Benjamin Franklin
It was nothing to her, that an innocent man was to die for the sins of his forefathers; she saw, not him, but them. It was nothing to her, that his wife was to be made a widow and his daughter an orphan; that was insufficient punishment, because they were her natural enemies and her prey, and as such had no right to live. To appeal to her, was made hopeless by her having no sense of pity, even for herself. If she had been laid low in the streets, in any of the many encounters in which she had been engaged, she would not have pitied herself; nor, if she had been ordered to the axe to-morrow, would she have gone to it with any softer feeling than a fierce desire to change places with the man who sent her there. ~ Charles Dickens
Innocent Man quotes by Charles Dickens
The most innocent man, pressed by the awful solemnities of public accusation and trial, many be incapable of supporting his own cause. He may be utterly unfit to cross-examine the witnesses against him, to point out the contradictions or defects of their testimony. And to counteract it by properly introducing it and applying his own. ~ William Rawle
Innocent Man quotes by William Rawle
When an innocent man is kidnapped from his home by bearded Arab gunmen and locked indefinitely in a room he is a "hostage." But when an innocent man is kidnapped from his home by uniformed white gunmen and locked indefinitely in a room he is a "terrorist." The world causes uproar over the former but is silent over the latter. "In the end we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends," observed Martin Luther King. ~ Babar Ahmad
Innocent Man quotes by Babar Ahmad
An innocent man is a sin before God. Inhuman and therefore untrustworthy. No man should live without absorbing the sins of his kind, the foul air of his innocence, even if it did wilt rows of angel trumpets and cause them to fall from their vines. ~ Toni Morrison
Innocent Man quotes by Toni Morrison
While the government can tell you that I am an innocent man, the government's letter cannot give me back my good name or my reputation. ~ Richard Jewell
Innocent Man quotes by Richard Jewell
I have ever had the single aim of justice in view. No judge who is influenced by any other consideration is fit for the bench. 'Do equal and exact justice,' is my motto, and I have often said to the grand jury, 'Permit no innocent man to be punished, but let no guilty man escape. ~ Isaac Parker
Innocent Man quotes by Isaac Parker
There are a sort of knight-errants in the world, who, quite contrary to those in romance, are perpetually seeking adventures to bring virgins into distress, and to ruin innocence. When men of rank and figure pass away their lives in these criminal pursuits and practices, they ought to consider that they render themselves more vile and despicable than any innocent man can be, whatever low station his fortune or birth have placed him in. ~ Joseph Addison
Innocent Man quotes by Joseph Addison
science teacher. "The police had me in custody, an innocent man, a victim of circumstances, and because they had no evidence at ~ James Patterson
Innocent Man quotes by James Patterson
Maimonides taught that it is better that 10 criminals go free than let one innocent man be executed. The Innocence Project represents that point of view. ~ Norman Lamm
Innocent Man quotes by Norman Lamm
Your mother all but accused me of something that is, among my kind, the highest crime a man can commit. There is no trial, only punishment, because it is considered better to let an innocent man die than let a guilty one live. (Page 79.) ~ Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Innocent Man quotes by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
I derive no pleasure from prosecuting a man, even though I know he's guilty; do you think I could sleep at night or look at myself in the mirror in the morning if I hounded an innocent man? ~ Jim Garrison
Innocent Man quotes by Jim Garrison
I must admit, Peter, I have difficulty in understanding why an innocent man would want to spend twelve years as a rat. ~ J.K. Rowling
Innocent Man quotes by J.K. Rowling
No! No!" Falling to his knees, Ebenezer tried to grab the black robe, but he felt nothing. "Please hear me. I'm not the man I was. I will not be that man again. Why show me these things if I'm beyond all hope?" The angel was relentless in his silent demand. Ebenezer sat back on his heels, resigned. "I've watched an innocent man crucified. Innocent children slaughtered. Mothers grieving for their dead sons. I guess nothing you show me now really matters." He took a deep breath and stood next to the slab of stone. He reached over the body and pulled back the shroud. He thought himself prepared, but he wasn't. He felt the blood drain from his face. Ebenezer was ready to see himself on that cold stone, but not the face before him. There, in what seemed peaceful sleep, was the Man whom Ebenezer loved. He fell back as he stared at Jesus. Recovering, he dropped to his knees. He was quiet for a moment, then said, "It should have been me. It should have been me. ~ Marianne Jordan
Innocent Man quotes by Marianne Jordan
I just listened to a man in total denial of the fact that he gunned down an innocent man. ~ Mark M. Bello
Innocent Man quotes by Mark M. Bello
I come from the liberal side of thinking: Better one guilty man should walk free than one innocent man found guilty. ~ Ian McShane
Innocent Man quotes by Ian McShane
The most violent expression of God's wrath and justice is seen in the Cross. If ever a person had room to complain for injustice, it was Jesus. He was the only innocent man ever to be punished by God. If we stagger at the wrath of God, let us stagger at the Cross. Here is where our astonishment should be focused. ~ R.C. Sproul
Innocent Man quotes by R.C. Sproul
Death row is a nightmare to serial killers and ax murderers. For an innocent man, it's a life of mental torture that the human spirit is not equipped to survive. ~ John Grisham
Innocent Man quotes by John Grisham
Do not be merciful, but be just, for mercy is bestowed upon the guilty criminal, while Justice is all that the innocent man requires. ~ Khalil Gibran
Innocent Man quotes by Khalil Gibran
I worshiped God with innocent heart when I was a little kid; and now I worship you with little heart while I am innocent man. ~ M.F. Moonzajer
Innocent Man quotes by M.F. Moonzajer
It is all too evident that our nation, and the governments of other countries, require all the help they can get in order to fight the War on Terrorism against people who have no qualms about taking the lives of innocent men, women, and children. ~ Jim Sensenbrenner
Innocent Man quotes by Jim Sensenbrenner
Circumstances may accumulate so strongly even against an innocent man, that directed, sharpened, and pointed, they may slay him. ~ Charles Dickens
Innocent Man quotes by Charles Dickens
Regardless of the fact Denker was a sadistic killer, and not an innocent man. The judicial system seemed designed to keep those killers alive for as long as possible, regardless of evidence, or the hurt it caused the victims' families - ~ Toni Anderson
Innocent Man quotes by Toni Anderson
In this country, there are two million people in prison. Two million. If the system gets it wrong one percent of the time, that is twenty thousand innocent people in jail. Lower it to half a percent and you're still at ten thousand people. This is what keeps me up at night. Why I always say, the scariest client is the innocent man. Because there is so much at stake. ~ Michael Connelly
Innocent Man quotes by Michael Connelly
If there is going to be war within countries, states, cities, or neighbours let the respective leaders fight those wars themselves; and do not bring innocent man and women into the fight. ~ Temitope Owosela
Innocent Man quotes by Temitope Owosela
We stopped to dine at Baltimore, and being now in Maryland, were waited on, for the first time, by slaves. The sensation of exacting any service from human creatures who are bought and sold, and being, for the time, a party as it were to their condition, is not an enviable one. The institution exists, perhaps, in its least repulsive and most mitigated form in such a town as this; but it is slavery; and though I was, with respect to it, an innocent man, its presence filled me with a sense of shame and self-reproach. ~ Charles Dickens
Innocent Man quotes by Charles Dickens
I ask the political economists and the moralists if they have ever calculated the number of individuals who must be condemned to misery, overwork, demoralisation, degradation, rank ignorance, overwhelming misfortune and utter penury in order to produce one rich man. ~ Almeida Garrett
Innocent Man quotes by Almeida Garrett
An economist is a man who knows a hundred ways of making love but doesn't know any women. ~ Art Buchwald
Innocent Man quotes by Art Buchwald
You did not kill Silas Stone, or Zannah's child. The war killed both of them. You must accept that." "But I might have saved them. There was a man, Jesse, he handed me a gun, and I handed it back to him. I valued my principles more than I valued their lives. And the outcome is, they are slaves again, or dead." "You are not God. You do not determine the outcome. The outcome is not the point." "Then what, pray, is the point?" His voice was a dry, soft rattle, like a breeze through a bough of dead leaves. "The point is the effort. That you, believing what you believed - what you sincerely believed, including the commandment 'thou shalt not kill' - acted upon it. To believe, to act, and to have events confound you - I grant you, that is hard to bear. But to believe, and not to act, or to act in a way that every fiber of your soul held was wrong - how can you not see? That is what would have been reprehensible." And even as I said this, I knew that if I stood again in the cattle show ground, and heard him promise to go to war, I would hold my piece, again, even knowing what terrible days were to follow. For to have asked him to do otherwise would have been to wish him a different man. And I knew then that I loved this man. This inconstant, ruined dreamer. ~ Geraldine Brooks
Innocent Man quotes by Geraldine Brooks
[Y]ou are not ashamed of your sin [in committing adultery] because so many men commit it. Man's wickedness is now such that men are more ashamed of chastity than of lechery. Murderers, thieves, perjurers, false witnesses, plunderers and fraudsters are detested and hated by people generally, but whoever will sleep with his servant girl in brazen lechery is liked and admired for it, and people make light of the damage to his soul. And if any man has the nerve to say that he is chaste and faithful to his wife and this gets known, he is ashamed to mix with other men, whose behaviour is not like his, for they will mock him and despise him and say he's not a real man; for man's wickedness is now of such proportions that no one is considered a man unless he is overcome by lechery, while one who overcomes lechery and stays chaste is considered unmanly. ~ Augustine Of Hippo
Innocent Man quotes by Augustine Of Hippo
O, Heart, remember thee That Man is none, Save One. ~ Coventry Patmore
Innocent Man quotes by Coventry Patmore
Jack Honey and Coke, of course, because I need the strength of my second-favorite man tonight. ~ Christy Dilg
Innocent Man quotes by Christy Dilg
Is that Isobella?" Gavin asked. "Aye. Every desirable, beautiful inch." "T would seem ye are the envy of every man in the hall," Ronan said. "I can see why." "Don't take fancy to the lass," Alysandir warned. Ronan laughed and slapped his brother on the back. "Not to worrit. I value my life too much." Alysandir swallowed, his hand almost crushed the silver cup in his hand. He knew the beauty was Isobella, but his mind couldn't accept the idea. All he could think was, it had been a good thing she wasna dressed like that in the glen because he wasna certain he could have kept his gentlemanly manners. ~ Elaine Coffman
Innocent Man quotes by Elaine Coffman
'Wild at Heart' simply came out of my journey as a man and then my work with men. ~ John Eldredge
Innocent Man quotes by John Eldredge
Not a man alive has so much luck that he can play with it. ~ William Butler Yeats
Innocent Man quotes by William Butler Yeats
With a resounding bang, the door burst open. A crazed man gaped at her with piercing and anguished blue eyes. Grunting, he staggered inside and collapsed face first to the floor.

Max launched into a cacophony of barking, racing around the man as if the spaniel had made a conquest.

A cold wind chilled the cottage while Jane tried to steady the poker with both hands and point it at the burly form. He didn't move.

Max whimpered and licked the man's face. Then the dog curled up beside him.

Jane gaped. "Merciful father. ~ Amy Jarecki
Innocent Man quotes by Amy Jarecki
If my courage was a man, I imagined that he would be big, scarred, and wear a kilt. I'd seen a documentary once ~ Elizabeth A. Reeves
Innocent Man quotes by Elizabeth A. Reeves
Go through the moral demands ... one by one and you will find that man could not live up to them; the intention is not that he should become more moral, but that he should feel as sinful as possible. If man had failed to find this feeling pleasant - why should he have engendered such an idea and adhered to it for so long? ... Man was by every means to be made sinful and thereby become excited, animated, enlivened in general. To excite, animate, enliven at any price ... ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Innocent Man quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
Public opinion contains all kinds of falsity and truth, but it takes a great man to find the truth in it. The great man of the age is the one who can put into words the will of his age, tell his age what its will is, and accomplish it. What he does is the heart and the essence of his age, he actualizes his age. The man who lacks sense enough to despise public opinion expressed in gossip will never do anything great. ~ Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
Innocent Man quotes by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
Take my advice and live for a long, long time. Because the maddest thing a man can do in this life is to let himself die. ~ Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Innocent Man quotes by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
What did she say?" Lauren breathed.
"She told me to check the oil," Nick replied imperturbably.
Despite his outward attitude of total indifference, Lauren couldn't believe that as a younger man he'd been so vulnerable. Surely having his own mother treat him as if he didn't exist must have hurt him terribly. "Is that all she said?" she asked tightly.
Unaware that Lauren was not sharing his ironic humor in the story,he said, "No-I think she asked me to check the air in her tires too."
Lauren had kept her voice neutral, but inwardly she felt ill. Tears stung her eyes, and she turned her face up to the purpling sky to hide them, pretending to watch the lacy clouds drifting over the moon.
"Lauren?" His voice sounded curt.
"Hmmmm?" she asked, staring steadfastly at the moon.
Leaning forward,he caught her chin and turned her face toward his. He looked at her brimming eyes in stunned disbelief. "You're crying!" he said incredulously.
Lauren waved a dismissing hand at him. "Don't pay any attention to that-I cry at movies too. ~ Judith McNaught
Innocent Man quotes by Judith McNaught
Man has never been the same since God died. ~ Edna St. Vincent Millay
Innocent Man quotes by Edna St. Vincent Millay
The whole thing could have been uncomfortable if all your wishes were to be drowned in to the sea or passed through a heart of a lion that shed not the innocent blood. ~ Auliq Ice
Innocent Man quotes by Auliq Ice
No free man needs a God; but was I free? ~ Vladimir Nabokov
Innocent Man quotes by Vladimir Nabokov
Occasionally, you will come across a wise crack by a pseudoliberal who will refer to God as "she," as if that is the most revolutionary idea known to man, that God could be feminine. Never in such a context is the history of the sexuality of God elucidated, as if it was so obvious to all that God could only be masculine, until the author came along and declared by fiat its femininity. In fact, there did exist matriarchal societies extending from the unknown past into the early historical period. It appears they existed along the "highland zone" which is the foothills extending along the mountainous region from the Pyrenees to the Himalayas. These matriarchal societies influenced the early Sumerian civilization and to a large extent the Minoan civilization, which was one of the few, if not the only matriarchal civilization. These societies were largely overrun and dissipated by invasions of the northern, patriarchal groups but these latter groups did incorporate some matriarchal aspects which exist to this day. For example, although the chief deities of Greece and Rome were masculine, there continued to be a panoply of feminine gods. Or take for example, the history of the Basque people of SW France. Also, when masculine Judaism moved from the Levant to Rome via moderate Christianity and the reconciling Paul, it eventually grafted in the idea of Virgin Mary the Divine. A distant version of this idea stands in New York harbor with her head and torch held high, neither bull dyke ~ Scott Mckee
Innocent Man quotes by Scott Mckee
Today a new faith is awakening - the Myth of the blood; the belief that to defend the blood is also to defend the divine nature of man in general. It is a belief, effulgent with the brightest knowledge, that Nordic blood represents that Mysterium which has overcome and replaced the older sacraments. ~ Alfred Rosenberg
Innocent Man quotes by Alfred Rosenberg
Many men have been praised as vividly imaginative on the strength of their profuseness in indifferent drawing or cheap narration: - reports of very poor talk going on in distant orbs; or portraits of Lucifer coming down on his bad errands as a large ugly man with bat's wings and spurts of phosphorescence; or exaggerations of wantonness that seem to reflect life in a diseased dream. But these kinds of inspirations Lydgate regarded as rather vulgar and vinous compared with the imagination that reveals subtle actions inaccessible by any sort of lens, but tracked in that outer darkness through long pathways of necessary sequence by the inward light which is the last refinement of Energy, capable of bathing even the ethereal atoms in its ideally illuminated space. ~ George Eliot
Innocent Man quotes by George Eliot
The greatest joy of a thinking man is to have searched the explored and to quietly revere the unexplored. ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Innocent Man quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
God doesn't understand you killing innocent men. God doesn't understand. I don't understand and I don't want to understand. ~ S.A. David
Innocent Man quotes by S.A. David
The great majority of women are more intelligent, better educated, and far more moral than multitudes of men whose right to vote no man questions. ~ Lucy Stone
Innocent Man quotes by Lucy Stone
The tragedy of life is in what dies inside a man while he lives - the death of genuine feeling, the death of inspired response, the awareness that makes it possible to feel the pain or the glory of other men in yourself. ~ Norman Cousins
Innocent Man quotes by Norman Cousins
Sitting and waiting is one of the most miserable occupations known to man - not that it usually is known to men; women do it much more often. ~ Diana Gabaldon
Innocent Man quotes by Diana Gabaldon
If you've ever wondered where the good songs go
After they've had their day,
You'll be glad to meet a man I know,
Wrinkled old and gray.
He collects the tunes that time has thrown aside -
Puts them under lock and key;
For a penny he is glad to set them free. ~ Ira Gershwin
Innocent Man quotes by Ira Gershwin
Individuality in universality is the plan of creation. Each cell has its part in bringing about consciousness. Man is individual and at the same time universal. It is while realising our individual nature that we realise even our national and universal nature. Each is an infinite circle whose centre is everywhere and circumference nowhere. By practice one can feel universal Selfhood which is the essence of Hinduism. He who sees in every being his own Self is a Pandita (sage). ~ Swami Vivekananda
Innocent Man quotes by Swami Vivekananda
For those of us who were brought up in the creed of respect for humanity, the simple encounters that can sometimes change into almost miraculous experiences mean a great deal. Respect for humanity ... that is the touchstone! When the Nazi respects only what resembles him, he merely respects himself. He rejects the creative contradictions, ruins any hope of advance, and for the next thousand years replaces man with the robot in the anthill. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Innocent Man quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
He twisted the heavy gold ring around his finger. It had been in his family for generations, passed down to each eldest child along with the family mission of once again ushering in the Golden Age of Man.
His great-great-grandfather had been the first of their Order to make physical progress toward the ultimate goal: to free the powerful prisoners from the center of the Earth. ~ Lisa Kessler
Innocent Man quotes by Lisa Kessler
Occasionally, she wondered if all couples struggled so much to understand one another, spoke so little at dinner together, spent so much time camped out in front of the TV. Did all women sometimes feel distanced from their man while they were making love? ~ Galt Niederhoffer
Innocent Man quotes by Galt Niederhoffer
What sets a man writhing sleepless in bed at night is not having injured his fellow so much as having been wrong; the mere injury he can efface by destroying the victim and the witness but the mistake is his and that is one of his cats which he always prefers to choke to death with butter. ~ William Faulkner
Innocent Man quotes by William Faulkner
When relatives asked, "How is your life in America?" my father would answer, Nandito pa rin kami. We're still here. ~ Alex Tizon
