It is the fight for a new economy, a new energy system, a new democracy, a new relationship to the planet and to each other, for land, water, and food sovereignty, for Indigenous rights, for human rights and dignity for all people. When climate justice wins we win the world that we want. We can't sit this one out, not because we have too much to lose but because we have too much to gain. . . . We are bound together in this battle, not just for a reduction in the parts per million of CO2, but to transform our economies and rebuild a world that we want today. ~ Naomi Klein
Indigenous Rights quotes by Naomi Klein
There is room on this land for all of us and there must also be, after centuries of struggle, room for justice for Indigenous peoples. That is all we ask. And we will settle for nothing less. ~ Arthur Manuel
Indigenous Rights quotes by Arthur Manuel
Churchmen are quick to defend religious freedom; lawyers were never so universally aroused as by President Roosevelt's Court bill; newspapers are most alert to civil liberties when there is a hint of press censorship in the air. And educators become perturbed at every effort to curb academic freedom. But too seldom do all of these become militant when ostensibly the rights of only one group are threatened. They do not always react to the truism that when the rights of any individual or group are chipped away, the freedom of all erodes. ~ Earl Warren
Indigenous Rights quotes by Earl Warren
A year later, Ayatollah Bennett declared, "I find no merit in the [drug] legalizers' case. The simple fact is that drug use is wrong. And the moral argument, in the end, is the most compelling argument." Of course, what this dangerous comedian thinks is moral James Madison and the Virginia statesman and Rights-man George Mason would have thought dangerous nonsense, particularly when his "morality" abolishes their gift to all of us, the Bill of Rights. ~ Gore Vidal
Indigenous Rights quotes by Gore Vidal
It is important and right that all privileges of the law be ours, but it is vastly more important that we be prepared for the exercise of those privileges. ~ Booker T. Washington
Indigenous Rights quotes by Booker T. Washington
Nobody can possibly be so hungry that they need to take a life in order to feel satisfied - they don't after all, take a human life, so why take the life of an animal? Both are conscious beings with the same determination to survive. It is habit, and laziness and nothing else. ~ Morrissey
Indigenous Rights quotes by Morrissey
The presence of the blacks is the greatest evil that threatens the United States. They increase, in the Gulf States, faster than do the whites. They cannot be kept for ever in slavery, since the tendencies of the modern world run strongly the other way. They cannot be absorbed into the white population, for the whites will not intermarry with them, not even in the North where they have been free for two generations. Once freed, they would be more dangerous than now, because they would not long submit to be debarred from political rights. A terrible struggle would ensue. ~ James Bryce
Indigenous Rights quotes by James Bryce
Doesn't an Indian tribe finally surrender to colonization by becoming as capitalistic as our conquerors? Isn't indigenous economic sovereignty one of the sneakiest damn oxymorons of all time? ~ Sherman Alexie
Indigenous Rights quotes by Sherman Alexie
Maybe this is crazy, but I think the right to own a gun is trumped by the right not to be shot by one. ~ Andy Borowitz
Indigenous Rights quotes by Andy Borowitz
I know that strong trade unions and best supported by Labour Government actually protect worker's rights. ~ Gisela Stuart
Indigenous Rights quotes by Gisela Stuart
Right to peace stands on the pillars of freedom of expression, respect for human rights, cultural diversity and scientific cooperation. Right to peace transform culture of war to a culture of peace. It is also saving humanity from the dangers of dark democracy, which exploits innocent citizens by implementing wrong law, purchased press and digital surveillance. ~ Amit Ray
Indigenous Rights quotes by Amit Ray
Racism is a complex and interconnected system that adapts to challenges over time. Colorblind ideology was a very effective adaptation to the challenges of the Civil Rights Era. Colorblind ideology allows society to deny the reality of racism in the face of its persistence, while making it more difficult to challenge than when it was openly espoused. ~ Robin DiAngelo
Indigenous Rights quotes by Robin DiAngelo
My aim is to show that those governments that violate the rights of people by invoking the name of Islam have been misusing Islam. ~ Shirin Ebadi
Indigenous Rights quotes by Shirin Ebadi
The real economic cleavage is not ... between employers and employed, but between all who do constructive work, from scientist to laborer, on the one hand, and all whose main interest is the preservation of existing proprietary rights upon the other, irrespective of whether they contribute to constructive work or not. ~ R. H. Tawney
Indigenous Rights quotes by R. H. Tawney
Obama wanted to offer his support to birth control activist Sandra Fluke. He wanted to express his disappointment that she has been the subject of inappropriate personal attacks and thank her for exercising her rights as a citizen to speak out on an issue of public policy. ~ Jay Carney
Indigenous Rights quotes by Jay Carney
The story of humanity can be written as the struggle to acknowledge all human beings as human beings. ~ J.S.B. Morse
Indigenous Rights quotes by J.S.B. Morse
You got to understand, Arthur Alexander was there with us, and some of his crew. It was in the '50s in Alabama. It was before even the civil rights stuff even started. You can imagine the hatred, although we didn't have it as bad as other parts of the country, I must say. ~ Donnie Fritts
Indigenous Rights quotes by Donnie Fritts
Disparate treatment of minorities should be discussed in every school in the country. Do the boys understand the difference between news and
propaganda? Misinformation is rampant on the internet, and the biggest provider of 'fake news' is the President of the United States, Ronald John. ~ Mark M. Bello
Indigenous Rights quotes by Mark M. Bello
As a husband and a father of two daughters, I want young women around the globe to have the same rights and opportunities as my daughters. ~ Mike Quigley
Indigenous Rights quotes by Mike Quigley
I am grateful that I have rights in the proverbial public square
but, as a practical matter, my most cherished rights are those that I possess in my bedroom and hospital room and death chamber. ~ Jacob M. Appel
Indigenous Rights quotes by Jacob M. Appel
I see my body as an instrument, rather than an ornament. ~ Alanis Morissette
Indigenous Rights quotes by Alanis Morissette
I want to be identified with the negro; until he gets his rights, we shall never have ours. ~ Angelina Grimke
Indigenous Rights quotes by Angelina Grimke
Those movies, Decline I and II and Suburbia, are dearly loved, but they never made any money. I didn't even have the rights for some of them. ~ Penelope Spheeris
Indigenous Rights quotes by Penelope Spheeris
The last stop to protect rights and liberties is the Supreme Court. ~ Dick Durbin
Indigenous Rights quotes by Dick Durbin
Freed slaves returned to Africa settled in a section of what was known as the "Pepper Coast" and on July 26, 1847, issued a Declaration of Independence and established a constitution based on the political principles denoted in the United States Constitution. In doing so they established the independent Republic of Liberia. Law and Order was something the ruling class of Liberians prided themselves on. The Americo Liberians, as they called themselves, were uber-Conservatives and had a glorified picture of what the American government was like. As Conservatives they saw themselves living a privileged lifestyle, sustained by their faith in God and the blessings that had been bestowed upon them by this deity. Amongst themselves there was much talk about the subjects of freedom, liberty, democracy and independence. They felt that these idealisms were deserved because of their exceptionalism. Taking a page from the concept of American exceptionalism, they fantasied of their very own Liberian exceptionalism, completely forgetting the indigenous natives living among them. Whereas the Americo Liberians lived an affluent lifestyle reflecting the antebellum era in the Southern tier of the United States, the local blacks, for the greatest part lived in squalor. In 1980, a violent military coup shattered the way of life in Liberia. Led by army Master Sergeant Samuel Doe, the country's ruling group of Americo-Liberians were brutally overthrown and frequently executed. Doe's term as Presid ~ Hank Bracker
Indigenous Rights quotes by Hank Bracker
I firmly believe that American society would not endure ten years if subjected to half the trials and tortures we've put Natives through. And yet Native peoples have not been utterly destroyed, not by the world's strongest military. They have not been totally assimilated, not by the world's largest religion. Native religions are indeed concerned with being a good person, respecting one's family, ancestors, community, and the Earth - and when these principles are lived, there is great strength. ~ Israel Morrow
Indigenous Rights quotes by Israel Morrow
I grew up in the military. I've lived that life. I know that our soldiers are out there fighting for our right to vote, and they're out there fighting for other countries' rights to vote ... Guys have been dying for it, and we have to go out and exercise it. ~ Robert Griffin III
Indigenous Rights quotes by Robert Griffin III
The House of Commons, refused to receive the addresses of the colonies, when the matter was pending; besides, we hold our rights neither from them nor from the Lords. ~ Christopher Gadsden
Indigenous Rights quotes by Christopher Gadsden
The people will learn to feel the dignity of man. They will not merely demand their rights, which have been trampled in the dust, but themselves will take them - make them their own. ~ Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
Indigenous Rights quotes by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
You know, we all oppose animal cruelty. But sometimes we forget that animals on farms suffer and feel pain like all other animals. They, too, deserve to be protected from harm and cruelty. ~ Charlotte Ross
Indigenous Rights quotes by Charlotte Ross
No, this wasn't a 1960s student riot. Out there were the streets. There were no nice dorms for sleeping. No school cafeteria for certain food. No affluent parents to send us checks. There was a ghetto riot on home turf. We already had our war wounds. So this was just another battle. Nobody thought of it as history, herstory, my-story, your-story, or our-story. We were being denied a place to dance together. That's all. The total charisma of a revolution in our CONSCIOUSNESS rising from the gutter to the gut to the heart and the mind was here. Non-existence (or part existence) was coming into being, and being into becoming. Our Mother Stonewall was giving birth to a new era and we were the midwives. ~ New York Public Library
Indigenous Rights quotes by New York Public Library
Any human being has a fundamental right to fight for their rights, but that (own right) can not include anything that is fundamentally trying to deny others what is their fundamental right.
The root of Tyranny of Majority that Telangana is witnessing in India since 1956 and is expected to end in early 2014 ~ Venkat Gandhi
Indigenous Rights quotes by Venkat Gandhi
One of the most cherished of all rights is the right to be left alone. ~ Supreme Court Justice Brandeis
Indigenous Rights quotes by Supreme Court Justice Brandeis
Much of the vaunted material wealth that shields us from disease and famine was accumulated at the expense of laboratory monkeys, dairy cows and conveyor-belt chickens. Over the last two centuries tens of billions of them have been subjected to a regime of industrial exploitation whose cruelty has no precedent in the annals of planet Earth. If we accept a mere tenth of what animal-rights activists are claiming, then modern industrial agriculture might well be the greatest crime in history. When evaluating global happiness, it is wrong to count the happiness only of the upper classes, of Europeans or of men. Perhaps it is also wrong to consider only the happiness of humans. ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Indigenous Rights quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
My body is not a tomb for animals. ~ Leonardo Da Vinci
Indigenous Rights quotes by Leonardo Da Vinci
Inequality can be done away with only by establishing a new society, where men and women will enjoy equal rights, resulting from an upheaval in the means of production and in all social relations. Thus, the status of women will improve only with the elimination of the system that exploits them. ~ Thomas Sankara
Indigenous Rights quotes by Thomas Sankara
During most of the Bush administration, human rights and democracy in Egypt were on the front burner. ~ Elliott Abrams
Indigenous Rights quotes by Elliott Abrams
The fears of one class of men are not the measure of the rights of another. ~ George Bancroft
Indigenous Rights quotes by George Bancroft
Where I come from, if you see your family and friends' civil rights being taken away, you speak up and do everything you can to keep that from happening! ~ Cyndi Lauper
Indigenous Rights quotes by Cyndi Lauper
It would also be strange to find in the midst of a catalog of the rights of individuals a provision securing to the states the right to maintain a designated "Militia." Dispassionate scholarship suggests quite strongly that the right of the people to keep and bear arms meant just that. ~ Antonin Scalia
Indigenous Rights quotes by Antonin Scalia
Together, the property rights and public choice schools show only that, if you start by assuming a purely individualistic model of human behavior and treat politics as if it were a pale imitation of the market, democracy will, indeed, make no sense. ~ Paul Starr
Indigenous Rights quotes by Paul Starr
Trust me that as I ignore all law to help the slave, so will I ignore it all to protect an enslaved woman. ~ Susan B. Anthony
Indigenous Rights quotes by Susan B. Anthony
Each of us has a short ride on this earth and as long as we stay in our lane, and don't affect someone else's ride, we should be allowed to drive as we see fit. ~ Rob Thomas
Indigenous Rights quotes by Rob Thomas
A man who won't die for something is not fit to live. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Indigenous Rights quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
For decades in America, there has been an effort to ensure that the rights of those who are not sane are the same as the rights of those who are. ~ P. J. O'Rourke
Indigenous Rights quotes by P. J. O'Rourke
The relationship between the government of the United States and social and indigenous movements has always been difficult. Not just in Bolivia but worldwide. We need to have bilateral relations characterized by mutual respect. ~ Evo Morales
