Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones. ~ Phillips Brooks
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Phillips Brooks
And the touch of her own mask, at first cool and clammy leather, but quickly like a second skin, and the play it gives her, herself a stage, her every breath a performance, and yet (herein lies the magic) also and entirely true. Every game, every lie flirting and cruel - and the house is full of them, games and lies - is real as knives, for the masquerade has come to define the night. The false face of everyday, that hides reality beneath flesh and skin, is itself hidden beneath the fantasy that, because it is a product and reflection of the mind, is an honest facade. Sadie has lived a wary, defensive life, always urged by that self-preserving instinct to stay small, hidden, safe. She did not know she had an imp inside her until she wore it on her face.

("One Of The Hungry Ones") ~ Holly Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Holly Phillips
Our witness must center not on our experience but on the facts of Christ's coming to this world. ~ Richard D. Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Richard D. Phillips
It's all about escapism. That's essentially what all movies are about. It's a vicarious thrill. ~ Todd Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Todd Phillips
It is believed that as the cells are being knitted together to form a new human life, before there are language and words, memories are formed of the time in utero. Whether it was a good experience or a bad one, whether the mother was overjoyed or contemplating abortion, the baby picks up those feelings. They remain with us inside our bodies in the form of physical memory. It is becoming common knowledge that babies in the womb respond to music, light and sound, so it makes sense that a baby would also respond to its mother's stresses and joys. ~ Zara Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Zara Phillips
I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again. ~ Bum Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Bum Phillips
Howard Phillips of the Constitution Party asked me to consider seriously running for president in 2008 and I am doing so. ~ Jerome Corsi
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Jerome Corsi
She cannot think of such things and still function, and she has needed to function, and she has never wanted to be one of those women who won't let their children eat raw cookie dough or wander a block down the street without a chaperone, and you have to manage the terror or you can never watch your child walk out the front door. And here they are where death is shoving its bloody snout in their faces, and she has not considered it, not really, because she has some vague idea of what she will unleash if she does, the great gaping chasm that will open up. That is what you do when you have a child, isn't it, open yourself up to unimaginable pain and then try to pretend away the possibilities. ~ Gin Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Gin Phillips
I intend to live as a happy man, though I am not quite ready to live as one, which means I'm not quite ready to die; whatever it is, I'm working on it, trust me ~ Glen Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Glen Phillips
Chris Chandler is the best performance poet I have ever seen. ~ Utah Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Utah Phillips
Technology makes things faster and more cost-effective, but it's not perfect. It requires you to be as flexible as you can be. ~ John Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by John Phillips
Everyone wants to know how you can tell when it's true love, and the answer is this: when the pain doesn't fade and the scars don't heal, and it's too damned late. Jonathan Tropper, from The Book of Joe ~ Madelon Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Madelon Phillips
I was pretty tough and serious in my 20s. ~ Britta Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Britta Phillips

Iaisha Phillips quotes by Sally Phillips
I know a fellow who's as broke as the Ten Commandments. ~ John Phillips Marquand
Iaisha Phillips quotes by John Phillips Marquand
Make your creed simply and broadly out of the revelation of God, and you will keep it to the end. ~ Phillips Brooks
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Phillips Brooks
Because now that it's finally morning, the shadows are beginning to fade, the shadows that have been covering my mind and my soul. Now that they're gone, I can almost start to see the way, and it's different from the one they'd convinced me was all I could have. ~ Vixen Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Vixen Phillips
The essential tendency of life is toward happiness ... Optimism is the only true condition for a reasonable man. ~ Phillips Brooks
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Phillips Brooks
And I *know* I wrote in the above that I hate biographies and reviews that focus on the psychological, surface detail, especially when they pertain to women writers, because I think it's really about the cult of the personality, which is essentially problematic, and I think simplistically psychologizing which biographies are so wont to do is really problematic, and dangerous, especially when dealing with complicated women who just by being writers at a certain time and age were labelled as nonconformist, or worse, hysterical or ill or crazy, and I think branding these women as femme fatales is all so often done. And I know in a way I'm contributing to this by posting their bad-ass photos, except hopefully I am humanizing them and thinking of them as complicated selves and intellects AND CELEBRATING THEM AS WRITERS as opposed to straight-up objectifying. One particular review long ago in Poetry that really got my goat was when Brian Phillips used Gertrude Stein's line about Djuna Barnes having nice ankles as an opener in a review of her poetry, and to my mind it was meant to be entirely dismissive, as of course, Stein was being as well. Stein was many important revolutionary things to literature, but a champion of her fellow women writers she was not. They published my letter, but then let the guy write a reply and scurry to the library and actually read Nightwood, one of my all-time, all-times, and Francis Bacon's too, there's another anecdote. And it's burned in my brain his ~ Kate Zambreno
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Kate Zambreno
I believe a woman who loves herself is a powerful, passionate, attractive force and I commit from this day forward to love myself deeply and extravagantly ~ Jan Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Jan Phillips
If man is man and God is God, to live without prayer is not merely an awful thing: it is an infinitely foolish thing. ~ Phillips Brooks
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Phillips Brooks
Be courageous. Be independent. Only remember where the true courage and independence come from. ~ Phillips Brooks
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Phillips Brooks
I got nominated for an Academy Award(R) for writing 'Borat.' ~ Todd Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Todd Phillips
There's a punk-rock attitude, clearly, to 'Hated.' There's even a punk-rock attitude to 'The Hangover,' I think. We start the movie with a Glenn Danzig song. ~ Todd Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Todd Phillips
We need, in other words, to know something about what we don't get, and about the importance of not getting it. ~ Adam Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Adam Phillips
If I were a better version of me, I would not react faster than I think, would not be wounded when no harm was intended, would understand before too much time had passed to forgive ... ~ Arthur Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Arthur Phillips
For a moment he could have sworn he smelled violets, which was very peculiar, since he had no idea what violets smelled like, except somehow he knew they smelled just like Lady Emma. ~ Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
What I wasn't prepared for was the realization that an adopted person is always an adopted person and that there will always be passages throughout life to remind one of that fact. I will never not be an adopted person, and somehow that still takes me by surprise. ~ Zara Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Zara Phillips
"Great guys" can make great husbands. ~ Jeanne Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Jeanne Phillips
It's different every time you write. Sometimes it might be harder than it was the day before. I don't like forcing it, but sometimes, if you force it a little bit, it helps you to push forward, and you get inspired in a way. I've written songs in an hour. And there are songs that have taken me six months. ~ Phillip Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Phillip Phillips
When we can't determine what is art - when you get to that point where we're not sure, that's the greatest likelihood that we're actually experiencing something great. But I think that's what the art world is most afraid of, because you lose that security. Then we don't know how to assign evaluation, whether it's cultural or otherwise. ~ Richard Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Richard Phillips

Iaisha Phillips quotes by Sally Phillips
I'm not big on dark chocolate, but I do have a sweet tooth, so it gets me in trouble. I love warm chocolate chip cookies with ice cream. Then there's this chocolate pie my mom makes for me every year for my birthday. She's been making it since I was younger, and there's nothing like it. It's really so, so good! ~ Phillip Phillips
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Phillip Phillips
Richard Feynman was fond of giving the following advice on how to be a genius. You have to keep a dozen of your favorite problems constantly present in your mind, although by and large they will lay in a dormant state. Every time you hear or read a new trick or a new result, test it against each of your twelve problems to see whether it helps. Every once in a while there will be a hit, and people will say, 'How did he do it? He must be a genius! ~ Gian-Carlo Rota
Iaisha Phillips quotes by Gian-Carlo Rota
