If you visit the killing floor of a slaughterhouse, it will brand your soul for life. ~ Howard Lyman
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Lyman
To consider yourself an environmentalist and still eat meat is like saying you're a philanthropist who doesn't give to charity. ~ Howard Lyman
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Lyman
Do what you can do, as well as you can do, every day of your life, and you will end up being one of the happiest individuals. ~ Howard Lyman
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Lyman
An environmentalist that eats meat is like a philanthropist that won't give money to charities. ~ Howard Lyman
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Lyman
1,000 cows in the U.S. are alive at night and dead in the morning. These cows on the ground are ground into feed, making their fellows not only carnivores but cannibals. Europe after Mad Cows' Disease has banned this practice. The U.S has not yet. ~ Howard Lyman
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Lyman
No animal needs to die in order for me to live. And that makes me feel good. ~ Howard Lyman
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Lyman
However, if Sir Launcelot of the Lake failed now and then in his behavior, who is there in the world shall say, 'I never fell into error'? And if he more than once offended, who is there shall have hardihood to say, 'I never committed offence'? ~ Howard Pyle
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Pyle
Before drawing any affirmative conclusions let us first note the absence of the concept of imitation as a general pastoral or moral guideline. There is in the New Testament no Franciscan glorification of barefoot itinerancy. Even when Paul argues the case for celibacy, it does not occur to him to appeal to the example of Jesus. Even when Paul explains his own predilection for self-support there is no appeal to Jesus' years of village artisan. Even when the Apostle argues strongly the case for his teaching authority, there is no appeal to the rabbinic ministry of Jesus. Jesus' trade as a carpenter, his association with fishermen, and his choice of illustrations from the life of the sower and the shepherd have through Christian history given momentum to the romantic glorification of the handcrafts and the rural life; but there is none of this in the New Testament, which testifies throughout to the life and mission of a church going intentionally into the cities in full knowledge of the conflicts which awaited here there. That the concept of imitation is not applied by the New Testament at some of those points where Franciscan and romantic devotion has tried most piously to apply it, is all the more demonstration of how fundamental the thought of participation in the suffering of Christ is when the New Testament church sees it as guiding and explaining her attitude to the powers of the world. Only at one point, only on one subject - but then consistently, universally - is Jesus ~ John Howard Yoder
Howard Lyman quotes by John Howard Yoder
The model of the human habitat dictated by zoning is a formless, soul-less, centerless, demoralizing mess. It bankrupts families and townships. It disables whole classes of decent, normal citizens. It ruins the air we breathe. It corrupts and deadens our spirit. ~ James Howard Kunstler
Howard Lyman quotes by James Howard Kunstler
When you're building a business or joining a company, you have to be transparent; you can't have two sets of information for two sets of people. ~ Howard Schultz
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Schultz
In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantify of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death. ~ Howard Zinn
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Zinn
A lot of knowledge in any kind of an organization is what we call task knowledge. These are things that people who have been there a long time understand are important, but they may not know how to talk about them. It's often called the culture of the organization. ~ Howard Gardner
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Gardner
Howard!' she hollered as the machines pulled her under. 'Howard!' At least she didn't remember my name, either. ~ Dexter Palmer
Howard Lyman quotes by Dexter Palmer
There is a hard core of people in the United States who will not be moved, whatever facts you present, from their conviction that this nation means only to do good, and almost always does good, in the world, that it is the beacon of liberty and freedom. ~ Howard Zinn
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Zinn
He no sooner saw the woman than he saw the aftermath of her - his marriage proposal and her acceptance, the home they would set up together, the drawn rich silk curtains leaking purple light, the bed sheets billowing like clouds, the wisp of aromatic smoke winding from the chimney - only for every wrack of it - its lattice of crimson roof tiles, its gables and dormer windows, his happiness, his future - to come crashing down on him in the moment of her walking past. ~ Howard Jacobson
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Jacobson
I love performing, and I love being in front of people. I love the pressure you get and the pleasure performing brings. ~ Leo Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Leo Howard
I'm not as interested in what you make as I am in what you're passionate about. What business are you really in? ~ Howard Schultz
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Schultz
Memorial Day should be a day for putting flowers on graves and planting trees. Also, for destroying the weapons of death that endanger us more than they protect us, that waste our resources and threaten our children and grandchildren. ~ Howard Zinn
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Zinn
Free white workers were better off than slaves or servants, but they still resented unfair treatment by the wealthier classes. ~ Howard Zinn
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Zinn
If democracy were to be given any meaning, if it were to go beyond the limits of capitalism and nationalism, this would not come, if history were any guide, from the top. It would come through citizen's movements, educating, organizing, agitating, striking, boycotting, demonstrating, threatening those in power with disruption of the stability they needed. ~ Howard Zinn
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Zinn
Aelfric once told me that strong passionate loves always destroy themselves. They are kindled of a fire that burns so hot that no amount of fuel can sustain it. Those loves, Aelfric said, either dwindle with contact - unable to burn bright through the dreary intercourse of daily life - or suffocate with distance. Only a small and steady flame, he said, can last a lifetime. Though I haven't loved before now, I've found it to be true of other passions. Those who fall headlong into obsessions do so often, and always quickly move on to new obsessions. ~ Scott Davis Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Scott Davis Howard
If death turned out to be a lack of being rather than a lack of consciousness, well, then, that sucked. ~ Linda Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Linda Howard
Well, if I ever suffer brain damage I know there's always a career waiting for me in local politics. ~ Jonathan L. Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Jonathan L. Howard
The good news is that even minimal activity can significantly extend life. ~ Howard Coble
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Coble
We have a big opportunity in China. We think the number of stores here can rival the number in North America. ~ Howard Schultz
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Schultz
Horst, I am not as single-minded - ' 'Bloody-minded…' ' - as I was. On occasion I have been known to not do something despite it being logical, or done something despite it being somewhat irrational.' 'That is the most grudging description of a conscience I have ever heard. ~ Jonathan L. Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Jonathan L. Howard
Table 11-2: Prioritization Using Weighted Criteria Scoring ~ Howard Rohm
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Rohm
We must get rid of the silly, sloppy idea that all people are equal in capacity. ~ Ray Lyman Wilbur
Howard Lyman quotes by Ray Lyman Wilbur
Cinema is a visual language, and you're always looking for visual metaphors for things. You know, if I was writing a play about Howard Hughes, I could have him give a monologue about how he's terrified to touch a doorknob. But on screen, you know, working with Marty Scorsese in 'The Aviator,' that became the series of images that told a story. ~ John Logan
Howard Lyman quotes by John Logan
In the Twenties, it wasn't a remarkable thing for a singer to be an actor, or even to be involved in politics. If this is our roots, how can you blame the branches for following the course of the roots. ~ Terrence Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Terrence Howard
You know what is right. Deep down, you know. The battle between your true wisdom and the counterfeit wisdom of society is what causes frustration. Refuse to compromise with what you know is right-with what is right for you. ~ Vernon Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Vernon Howard
Then all was quiet save only for the low voices of those that talked together, ... , and saving, also, for the mellow snoring of Friar Tuck, who enjoyed his sleep with a noise as of one sawing soft wood very slowly. ~ Howard Pyle
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Pyle
Perseverance is the master impulse of the firmest souls, the discipline of the noblest virtues, and the guaranty of acquisitions the most invigorating in their use and inestimable in their worth. ~ Elias Lyman Magoon
Howard Lyman quotes by Elias Lyman Magoon
Ann: How does God's character fit into things that seem totally against his character? ~ K. Howard Joslin
Howard Lyman quotes by K. Howard Joslin
The sarangi, the ney flute are pretty ancient instruments. ~ Howard Shore
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Shore
I got sick of the dough, and thought I'd go on the loaf. ~ Curly Howard
Howard Lyman quotes by Curly Howard
But the shouts and smell of smoke had a powerful effect on me. I don't say they excited me, but they gave a sort of universality to what I was feeling. I am who I am because I am not them - well, I was not alone in feeling that. We were all who we were because we were not them. So why did that translate into hate? I don't know, but when everyone's feeling the same thing it can appear to be reasonableness. ~ Howard Jacobson
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Jacobson
The will of God is found in the Word of God. The more a person grows, the more he begins to think instinctively and habitually from a divine perspective. ~ Howard G. Hendricks
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard G. Hendricks
In some ways, a novel isn't as structurally rigorous as a screenplay or a TV show, which have finite real estate. In a novel, you can more deeply illuminate a character's interior and get away with digressions. ~ Howard Gordon
Howard Lyman quotes by Howard Gordon
