Major league baseball has asked its players to stop tossing baseballs into the stands during games, because they say fans fight over them and they get hurt. In fact, the Florida Marlins said that's why they never hit any home runs. It's a safety issue. ~ Jay Leno
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Jay Leno
I was always small. I was a leadoff hitter growing up, until I was 13 or 14 years old and had a little growth spurt and started hitting home runs. ~ Ryan Braun
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Ryan Braun
The biggest takeaway for anyone seeking to write is this: don't go looking for the way other authors do their work. You won't find many who are consistent enough to copy, and there are enough variations in approach that it's obvious that it's not like hitting home runs or swinging a golf club. There isn't a standard approach, there's only what works for you (and what doesn't). ~ Seth Godin
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Seth Godin
I'm always amazed when a pitcher becomes angry at a hitter for hitting a home run off him. When I strike out, I don't get angry at the pitcher, I get angry at myself. I would think that if a pitcher threw up a home run ball, he should be angry at himself. ~ Willie Stargell
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Willie Stargell
I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can. ~ Babe Ruth
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Babe Ruth
What do I think about when I strike out? I think about hitting home runs. ~ Babe Ruth
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Babe Ruth
I had only one superstition. I made sure to touch all the bases when I hit a home run. ~ Babe Ruth
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Babe Ruth
I learned the hard way. When I started hitting home runs, I thought, I can hit these pitches. Then I started thinking, if I can do this, I can hit the pitch four inches outside or four inches up. I expanded the zone and got myself out. Pitchers are smart. If they find out they don't have to throw strikes, they won't. ~ Carlos Delgado
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Carlos Delgado
Ability is the art of getting credit for all the home runs somebody else hits. ~ Casey Stengel
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Casey Stengel
We should not anticipate that every time countries come together that we are doing some revolutionary thing. Instead of hitting home runs, sometimes we're going to hit singles. ~ Barack Obama
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Barack Obama
The fishing is best where the fewest go and the collective insecurity of the world makes it easy for people to hit home runs while everyone is aiming for base hits. ~ Timothy Ferriss
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Timothy Ferriss
You hit home runs not by chance but by preparation. ~ Roger Maris
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Roger Maris
I'm hoping someday that some kid, black or white, will hit more home runs than myself. Whoever it is, I'd be pulling for him. ~ Hank Aaron
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Hank Aaron
batter hell-bent on hitting a home run. ~ Joey K.
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Joey K.
What a perfect way to end the home stand, by hitting sixty-two for the city of St. Louis and all the fans. I truly wanted to do it here and I did. Thank you St. Louis. ~ Mark McGwire
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Mark McGwire
But at home, that same day he'd jumped into the fountain, he'd gotten so anxious, pacing around the living room listening to his parents try to calm him, that he suddenly just lost it completely and slapped his face. He immediately started crying, confused and guilty, looking up at his parents like he had no idea how it happened. And, really, that's the way it always was with the hitting. It would happen so fast, his body shaking to release the tension that built up from all the thoughts swirling through his mind and all the air he was having trouble breathing and all the loud beating of his own heart ringing in his ears. It had to get out and that was the path it chose. Slap. Instant relief. ~ John Corey Whaley
Hitting Home Runs quotes by John Corey Whaley
I would like people not to think in terms of the 755 home runs I hit but think in terms of what I've accomplished off the field and some of the things I stood for. ~ Hank Aaron
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Hank Aaron
And if you'd been healthy and happy, you wouldn't have come home?"
"When everything is lost a man seeks refuge, as if he were returning to his mother's womb."
"And after that?"
"After that he forgets. He's driven to it by his restlessness. He wants to be what he was not, or what he was. He runs away from his fortune and looks for another. ~ Mesa Selimovic
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Mesa Selimovic
I'm seeing the ball well. I'm not trying for home runs. I'm trying to hit to right field more. When I do that, the home run comes. ~ Sammy Sosa
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Sammy Sosa
So, your kids must love the iPad?" I asked Mr. [Steve] Jobs, trying to change the subject. The company's first tablet was just hitting the shelves. "They haven't used it," he told me. "We limit how much technology our kids use at home."
(Nytimes article, Sept. 10, 2014) ~ Nick Bilton
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Nick Bilton
And it's California, where everything is powerfully strange. Everyone wants it to be home. Everyone left where he or she was from with dreams of transformation. Everyone runs away to California at least once, or at least all the lonely, hungry people do. ~ Marya Hornbacher
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Marya Hornbacher
Now they talk on the radio about the record set by (Babe) Ruth, and (Joe) DiMaggio and Henry Aaron. But they rarely mention mine. Do you know what I have to show for the sixty-one home runs? Nothing, exactly nothing. ~ Roger Maris
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Roger Maris
We can change our brains, but it takes time and diligence, because the human brain has a built-in "negativity bias" whereby it stores and learns from negative experiences far more readily and lastingly than it stores and learns from positive ones. This is a natural survival strategy by which the body records danger signs for future reference. It is far more useful for an evolving creature to remember Hungry lions bite than to remember Flowers are pretty. Thus we are neurologically wired to remember more vividly and lastingly a bad experience - say, a public scolding - than to remember a good experience - say, hitting a home run - that occurred on the same day, even if both experiences carried exactly the same emotional intensity for us at the time. ~ Anneli Rufus
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Anneli Rufus
[George] Foster lacks the name recognition outside of Cincinnati that other members of the Big Red machine maintain, but that doesn't diminish his contributions to the club - he followed his MVP campaign with three more seasons of 20-plus home runs and 90-plus RBIs, never mind the fact he batted .326 during three trips to the World Series. And just like Rose and Morgan and Bench during their MVP seasons, Foster can say, if only for that one summer, he was the best in the game. ~ Tucker Elliot
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Tucker Elliot
It's high time something was done for the pitchers. They put up the stands and take down fences to make more home runs and plague the pitchers. Let them revive the spitter and help the pitchers make a living. ~ Casey Stengel
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Casey Stengel
In the past, missionaries have traveled to far countries with the message of the gospel - with great hardship and often with the loss of life. In contrast, we can reach millions instantly from the comfort of our homes by merely hitting the 'send' button on our computers, or with iPads, or phones. ~ Ray Comfort
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Ray Comfort
But this is the point I want to make: When you talk about steroids and
you talk about what it means to the game, the three greatest home run
hitters of all time-Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays, right? When
they were 39 years old, how many home runs do you think they averaged?
The three greatest home run hitters of all time averaged 18 home runs
at age 39. Now, how many home runs did Barry Bonds hit when he was 39?
He hit 73! ~ Carlton Fisk
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Carlton Fisk
Boyle is a round, pancake-faced little oddball who gives you the impression that he has a room at home packed with disturbing magazines, neatly alphabetized, but he runs a scene impeccably ~ Tana French
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Tana French
She was always a loving mother who did what she thought was best. Sometimes that included hitting us with clothes hangers when we were young, but I'm sure we had it coming. To this day I have flashbacks when the dry cleaner asks me if I want my shirts folded or on hangers. I love my mom dearly, and thanks to her all my shirts now come home from the dry cleaner's folded. ~ Maz Jobrani
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Maz Jobrani
Home runs just come from accidents by me, ... I just try to hit it solid and sometimes they go out. The record is nice to have but I'm not trying to hit them. ~ Craig Biggio
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Craig Biggio
I believe that if you go on a date and get to second base and then you go home alone and rub one out, that's like runs batted in. ~ Arj Barker
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Arj Barker
Mexican music runs through my veins. I loved it. Growing up, my father didn't allow us to listen to English music at home. That's all I heard. I had no choice. ~ Jenni Rivera
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Jenni Rivera
The typical backpacker is unmarried, educated, but not yet on the career track. Among the backpackers, there are always a lot of young Europeans who work for a year or two at home, save their money, then travel until it runs out. Canadians and Australians are also backpack travelers; so are Israelis, taking a year off after serving in the army, and New Zealanders on their great "OE," overseas experience. There are Americans as well; but the Americans are usually on a tighter schedule, and I find them less friendly, at least to me. ~ Rita Golden Gelman
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Rita Golden Gelman
I'd get 3-4 cheap home runs every year. You know, little 'wood shots' down either line. They would be pop flies in any other park. But, goodness me, they didn't count the number of long outs! ~ Bobby Thomson
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Bobby Thomson
The way I see it, it's a great thing to be the man who hit the most home runs, but it's a greater thing to be the man who did the most with the home runs he hit. So as long as there's a chance that maybe I can hammer out a little justice now and then, or a little opportunity here and there, I intend to do as I always have
keep swinging. ~ Hank Aaron
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Hank Aaron
I told you. Time moves differently for everyone; but for everyone, time runs out. Such is the way of things. To die here, at home, is enough for me. ~ Lanie Bross
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Lanie Bross
I have struck out more times than I can count, but I have hit many home runs as well".

~R. Alan Woods {2013] ~ R. Alan Woods
Hitting Home Runs quotes by R. Alan Woods
The sport to which I owe so much has undergone profound changes, but it's still baseball. Kids still imitate their heroes on playgrounds. Fans still ruin expensive suits going after foul balls that cost five dollars. Hitting streaks still make the network news and hot dogs still taste better at the ballpark than at home. ~ Duke Snider
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Duke Snider
Suppose..." And for the first time he linked his hand with hers. "He runs and wins and lives to a ripe old age writing his memoirs and traveling as an ambassador of goodwill or playing Parcheesi on the sun porch. You're going to be damned mad he had fifty years without you."
She let out a long breath. "Yeah. But-"
"We've already gone through the buts," he interrupted. "Of course, they're probably several million possibilities in between. He could get hit by a car crossing the street-or you could. He could lose the election and become a missionary or an anchor on the six o'clock news."
"All right." Shelby dropped her forehead to their joined hands. "Nobody makes me see what a fool I am better than you."
"One of my minor talents. Listen, walk out on the beach; clear your head. When you come back, eat something, then get about twelve hours' sleep, because you look like hell.Then..." He waited until she lifted her head to smile at him. "Go home.I've got work to do."
"I love you,you creep."
"Yeah." He shot her one of his quick grins. "Me too. ~ Nora Roberts
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Nora Roberts
Barry Bonds in the news. Yesterday Barry Bonds' agent said that Bonds could hit as many as 1,000 home runs. And the agent admitted he's on more drugs than Barry Bonds. ~ Conan O'Brien
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Conan O'Brien
Some think Grom felt the pull toward Nalia," Toraf says softly. "Maybe it's a family trait."
"Well, there's where you're wrong, Toraf. I'm not supposed to feel the pull toward Emma. She belongs to Grom. He's firstborn, third generation Triton. And she's clearly of Poseidon." Galen runs his hand through his hair.
"I think that if Grom were her mate, he would have found Emma somehow instead of you."
"That's what you get for thinking. I didn't find Emma. Dr. Milligan did."
"Okay, answer me this," Toraf says, shaking a finger at Galen. "You're twenty years old. Why haven't you sifted for a mate?"
Galen blinks. He's never thought of it, actually. Not even when Toraf asked for Rayna. Shouldn't that have reminded him of his own single status? He shakes his head. He's letting Toraf's gossip get to him. He shrugs. "I've just been busy. It's not like I don't want to, if that's what you're saying."
"With who?"
"What?"
"Name someone, Galen. The first female that comes to mind."
He tries to block out her name, her face. But he doesn't stop it in time. Emma. He cringes. It's just that we've been talking about her so much, she's naturally the freshest on my mind, he tells himself. "There isn't anyone yet. But I'm sure there would be if I spent more time at home."
"Right. And why is that you're always away? Maybe you're searching for something and don't even know it."
"I'm away because I'm watching the humans, as is my responsibility, yo ~ Anna Banks
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Anna Banks
Like many of the kids I write about, I once was a runaway myself - and a few (but not all) of the other writers in the series also come from troubled backgrounds. That early experience influences my fiction, no doubt, but I don't think it's necessary to come from such a background in order to write a good Bordertown tale. To me, "running away to Bordertown" is as much a metaphorical act as an actual one. These tales aren't just for kids who have literally run away from home, but also for every kid, every person, who "runs away" from a difficult or constrictive past to build a different kind of life in some new place. Some of us "run away" to college . . . or we "run away" to a distant city or state . . . or we "run away" from a safe, secure career path to follow our passions or artistic muse. We "run away" from places we don't belong, or from families we have never fit into. We "run away" to find ourselves, or to find others like ourselves, or to find a place where we finally truly belong. And that kind of "running away from home" - the everyday, metaphorical kind - can be just as hard, lonely, and disorienting as crossing the Nevernever to Bordertown . . . particularly when you're in your teens, or early twenties, and your resources (both inner and outer) are still limited. I want to tell stories for young people who are making that journey, or contemplating making that journey. Stories in which friendship, community, and art is the "magic" that lights the way.

(s ~ Terri Windling
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Terri Windling
To be good you've gotta have a lot of little boy in you. When you see Willie Mays and Ted Williams jumping and hopping around the bases after hitting a home run, and the kissing and hugging that goes on at home plate, you realize they have to be little boys. ~ Roy Campanella
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Roy Campanella
David Ortiz is a genius. He's incredible to watch. Over and over, he hits home runs that are simply transcendent. ~ Juliana Hatfield
Hitting Home Runs quotes by Juliana Hatfield
That's what art is, he said, the story of a life in all its particularity. It's the only thing that really is particular and personal. It's the expression and, at the same time, the fabric of the particular. And what do you mean by the fabric of the particular? I asked, supposing he would answer: Art. I was also thinking, indulgently, that we were pretty drunk already and that it was time to go home. But my friend said: What I mean is the secret story ... The secret story is the one we'll never know, although we're living it from day to day, thinking we're alive, thinking we've got it all under control and the stuff we overlook doesn't matter. But every damn thing matters! It's just that we don't realize. We tell ourselves that art runs on one track and life, our lives, on another, we don't even realize that's a lie. ~ Roberto Bolano
