Kisa Shouta(Sekaiichi Hatsukoi)Vol.6 ch.4 ~ Shungiku Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shungiku Nakamura
The presence of otaku culture is a grotesque reflection of the fragility of Japanese identity. This is because the "Japanese" themes and modes of expression created by otaku are in fact all imitations and distortions of U.S.-made material. On the other hand, the presence of this culture is connected to the narcissism of the 1980s and is also a fetish that can feed the illusion of Japan being at the cutting edge of the world. ~ Hiroki Azuma
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Hiroki Azuma
I won't tell him. I won't tell him that in my whole life, no one have ever made my heart beat like he does. It hurts too much to say this.

Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shungiku Nakamura
The promise of energy savings, reduced carbon emissions and affordable lighting was there from the inception. The proliferation of the technology into areas such as displays, automotive, medicine and horticulture was unexpected. ~ Shuji Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shuji Nakamura
Fate is like the relationship between the strong and the weak, don't you think? Look at religion, for example. The Israelites, who worshipped Jehovah - why were they afraid of him? Because their god was powerful, that's why. Everyone who believes in gods fears them to some extent. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
A boy met a boy.
They were in flush of youth.
They were in love that felt like a dream,
like a sparkling soda pop. ~ Asumiko Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Asumiko Nakamura
I thought about how this banknote had witnessed a moment of each one of those people's lives. Maybe it had been at the scene of a murder, then passed from the murderer to a shopkeeper somewhere, then to a good person somewhere else. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
Deep down, people who deliberately distribute other people's music and stuff feel contempt for professionals. And it's not just culture - these days lots of people are contemptuous of everything. Without realizing it, they're searching for things to despise. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
We're attacking all accepted values. Authority, class differences, shared perceptions. We don't care what happens to our social structure -- revolutions are for suckers. Our target is people's collective consciousness. It's like throwing a cream pie in their face. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
The ultimate end of sadism is ruin and murder. The one in control is always the masochist. ~ Fuminori Nakamura

Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shuji Nakamura
The marathon is an art; the marathoner is an artist. ~ Kiyoshi Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Kiyoshi Nakamura
Even when the moon shrinks and disappears, it shows itself again gradually. When ancient people saw that eternal cycle of death and recovery, they prayed to the moon for their own rebirth. Rebirth. Will I be reborn? ... If I were reborn, what would I become? ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
For you it's not a matter of can or can't do. Once you say you're going to do something, you do everything to make it happen. That's why I wasn't worried. I've always liked that about you.
- Takano to Onodera ~ Shungiku Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shungiku Nakamura
Life is a mystery. But listen. Why did I turn up in your life in the first place? Do you believe in fate? Was your fate controlled by me, or was being controlled by me your fate? But in the end, aren't they just two sides of the same coin? ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
If I had gone to a big company, it would have been very difficult for me to do research freely. At a big company, say Sony, there are very, very good researchers. So I would have to ask them what I could do. ~ Shuji Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shuji Nakamura
Basically, I like research because research is like to solve the quiz, you know. Always there is a problem, and I have to solve the problem. So I like those patterns. It's almost like research is sort of in a quiz. ~ Shuji Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shuji Nakamura
You're a pickpocket right? That's cool. But you don't do it for the money, do you?"
"Maybe the end." I said abruptly.
"The end?"
"What will happen to me in the end. What happens to people who live the way I do? That's what I'd like to know. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
Indian forms of yoga have spread throughout the world due to their objectives of promoting health and harmony. Japan is but one of many countries that have received these age-old teachings. While Indian yogic disciplines (Hatha yoga in particular) have become well known, not everyone realizes that certain distinctive Japanese versions of Indian spiritual paths have evolved. Perhaps the first of these unique methodologies is the art of Shin-shin-toitsu-do, which was developed by Nakamura Tempu Sensei (1876–1968). In fact, Nakamura Sensei is often considered to be the father of yoga in Japan. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
Just by gazing upon her face ... No matter how weary you are, you will feel happy, deep inside your heart, you will feel a warmth This is a "piece of joy" This is all the happiness you need. Normally, we call this "love" ... ~ Yoshiki Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Yoshiki Nakamura
I was so surprised because I'm not too sure whether I could win a Nobel Prize, you know, because basically, physics, it means that usually people was awarded for the invention of the basic theory. But in my case, not a basic theory, in my case just making the device, you know. ~ Shuji Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shuji Nakamura
The man at the end of the bar was looking at me. ... Should I get drunk and sleep with him now? But I could see that I would regret that so much I would want to die after. I didn't want to get involved with anyone, and I didn't want to bear being alone with the warmth left by someone long gone. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
I kept staring at the moon. I'm not sure if its light was good or evil. I thought it might not be either. The moon just shines with the light of chaos. Mysteriously. Brightly. That must not be either good or evil. Just as the rules of this world are not all good. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
Eternity is an instant, and that instant is eternity.

When you say you love me, I could die happy.

There are sad moments, but then there are smiles. Those moments pass by, it's truly sad.

These memorable moments.

But, during those moments, when I remember there is someone next to me to share my happiness and sadness.

I am truly happy. ~ Asumiko Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Asumiko Nakamura
Evans understood that if Nakamura chose, it would be indiscriminately and their number would include the sickest - and perhaps most likely the sickest, because they were of least use to Nakamura - and that all of them would die. If, on the other hand, he, Dorrigo, chose, he could pick the fittest, the ones he thought had the best chance of living. And most would die anyway. That was his choice: to refuse to help the agent of death, or to be his servant. ~ Richard Flanagan
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Richard Flanagan
My hand smells really good these days. Wanna sniff it? ~ Shūzō Oshimi
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shūzō Oshimi
You must resent all happiness. people who have killed cannot attain one hundred percent virtue, but they can attain one hundred percent evil. That is your life path. You have power and money. Destroy everything.By sublimating yourself to the first of hell, to the mighty, evil energy that destroys all people and all joy, you can obtain a piece of an incredible pleasure. Pathetic individuals like serial killers or terrorist bombers will never obtain it. It's an even greater evil. Even greater. ~ Fuminori Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Fuminori Nakamura
Nakamura Tempu Sensei viewed the mind as a segment of the body that could not be seen and the body as the element of the mind that was observable. He also likened the mind and body to a stream, with the mind as the source flowing down to the body. Whatever we drop in the stream will be carried down by the current. In like manner, our thoughts will influence the body and our well being. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
Maybe the reason I believe reality is crueler ...
... is because I've never really loved?
There was a time when I believed that ...
... "Hard work will pay off." or "Your feelings will always reach them."
I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse ...
... that I found out that that's a myth.
What should I do ...
If that's what it means to become an adult,
it's not necessarily unfortunate, but really mundane.
But it's not like I'm being negative,
I just turned my back and I am moving forward ...
-Onodera Ritsu ~ Shungiku Nakamura
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Shungiku Nakamura
When the CIA is the place you turn to for moral clarity, Nakamura thought, you might have a problem. ~ Ramez Naam
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Ramez Naam
Who are you?"

Ethan Nakamura. I have to kill you." ?? ~ Rick Riordan
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Rick Riordan
The goddess shrugged. 'One of my sons recently traded an eye for the ability to make a real difference in the world. ~ Rick Riordan
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Rick Riordan
The impact movies make on us are affected by when we watch it, who we see it with, and where we are in our lives at the moment.
- Suzy Nakamura ~ Graham Elwood
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Graham Elwood
Since the early 1920s a unique spiritual path has existed in Japan. This distinctly Japanese version of yoga is called Shin-shin-toitsu-do, and it combines seated meditation, moving meditation, breathing exercises, and other disciplines to help practitioners realize unification of mind and body. Besides yoga, it is a synthesis of methods, influenced by Japanese meditation, healing arts, and martial arts; along with Western psychology, medicine, and science. Shin-shin-toitsu-do is widely practiced throughout Japan, although it is almost unknown in other countries. Through its principles of mind and body coordination people have an opportunity to realize their full potential in everyday life.A remarkable man created this path, and he led an equally remarkable life. He was known in Japan as Nakamura Tempu Sensei, and this is his story. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
I wasn't sure why I wanted to spare Ethan. I guess we'd had enough fighting for one day, and in truth I felt sorry for the kid. He would be in enough trouble when he reported back to Kronos. ~ Rick Riordan
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Rick Riordan
If you have time, a lot of things are enjoyable. Making this type of woodblock, or collecting the wood for the fire, or even cleaning things - it's all enjoyable and satisfying if you give yourself time - Nakamura. ~ Andy Couturier
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Andy Couturier
Just as writing can become calligraphy when it's creatively, skillfully, and consciously performed, so can all other activities become art. In this case, we are reflecting upon life itself as an artistic statement - the art of living. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
While we can learn or study techniques for almost anything we might want to accomplish, real understanding is not the mere accumulation of knowledge. Understanding cannot be realized by listening or reading about the realization of others. It must be achieved firsthand via substantive, direct perception in the moment. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
The young should not think of themselves as immature and the elderly need not view themselves as feeble. Our minds control our bodies. Have no age, transcend both past and future, and enter into naka-ima - the eternal present. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
Because all actions and expressions
stem from the mind, it is vital to know the
mind as well as decide in what way we'll use it. Everyone has heard of psychosomatic illness, and most of us acknowledge that psychosomatic sicknesses can and do occur. But what
about psychosomatic wellness? ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
If we fail to realize our full potential as human beings, we live more on an animalistic level. This is fine for dogs, cats, and chimpanzees but doesn't work quite so well for women and men. Without the capacity to freely shape our own lives, much as a sculptor might carve stone, we inevitably slip into negativity and depression. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
By keeping the mind in the present, unless you deliberately want to contemplate the past or future, it's possible to firmly face life without fear. Then, no thoughts of past failures or future problems will exist in the mind, and a truly positive mental state will result - fudoshin, the immovable mind. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
A strong life force can be seen in physical vitality, courage, competent judgment, self-mastery, sexual vigor, and the realization of each person's unique talents and purpose in life. To maintain a powerful life force, forget yourself, forget about living and dying, and bring your full attention into this moment. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
By means of personal experimentation and observation, we can discover certain simple and universal truths. The mind moves the body, and the body follows the mind. Logically then, negative thought patterns harm not only the mind but also the body. What we actually do builds up to affect the subconscious mind and in turn affects the conscious mind and all reactions. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
All creations are one with the universe. Look at the world around you. Can you effectively separate yourself from everything else? After seriously pondering this, most of us rapidly conclude that we cannot. To even make the statement that I exist as a unique entity requires comparison with something else. (If you exist as a distinct being, your distinctiveness is in comparison to other creations. No other creations, no individual you.) ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
No art takes places without inspiration. Every artist also needs effective knowledge of his or her tools (e.g., does a certain brush function well with a particular kind of paint?). What's more, artists need effective techniques for using those tools.
Likewise, to express ourselves skillfully with maximum efficiency and minimum effort, we need to investigate the most effective ways of using the mind and body since, in the end, they are the only "tools" we truly possess in life. ~ H. E. Davey, Japanese Yoga: The Way Of Dynamic Meditation
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H. E. Davey, Japanese Yoga: The Way Of Dynamic Meditation
We're so used to just glancing at the environment through the eyes of the past that we're frequently not certain if we are in fact paying attention or if we merely think that we're paying attention. Dynamic meditation in everyday existence involves the act of truthfully seeing.
Many of us have changed some aspect of our appearance only to have this go unnoticed by friends. Perhaps you've shaved off a mustache, added a tattoo, or altered your hairstyle, but your acquaintances failed to initially notice. In such a case, your friends were looking at their environment through the eyes of the past instead of actually seeing what was taking place in the present. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
You shall delve in the darkness of the endless maze," I remembered. "The dead, the traitor, and the lost one raise. We raised a lot of the dead. We saved Ethan Nakamura, who turned out to be a traitor. We raised the spirit of Pan, the lost one." Annabeth shook her head like she wanted me to stop. "You shall rise or fall by the ghost king's hand," I pressed on. "That wasn't Minos, like I'd thought. It was Nico. By choosing to be on our side, he saved us. And the child of Athena's final stand - that was Daedalus." "Percy - " "Destroy with a hero's final breath. That makes sense now. Daedalus died to destroy the Labyrinth. But what was the last - " "And lose a love to worse than death." Annabeth ~ Rick Riordan
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Rick Riordan
Class, I'd like us all to give a warm mayflower elementary welcome to your new friend and classmate Jing Jang!"
"Jin Wang"
"Jin wang!"
"He and his family recently moved to our neighborhood all the way from China!"
"San Francisco."
"San Francisco!"
"Yes, Timmy."
"My momma says Chinese people eat dogs."
"Now be nice, Timmy!" -km sure Jin doesn't do that! In fact, Jin's family probably stopped that sort of thing as soon as they came to the united states!"
The only other asian in my class was Suzy Nakamura.
When the class finally figured out that we weren't related, rumors began to circulate that suzy and I were arranged to be married on her thirteenth birthday.
We avoided each other as much as possible.
(30-31) ~ Gene Luen Yang
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by Gene Luen Yang
Each action we take is an act of self-expression. We often think of large-scale or important deeds as being indications of our real selves, but even how we sharpen a pencil can reveal something about our feelings at that moment. Do we sharpen the pencil carefully or nervously so that it doesn't break? Do we bother to pay attention to what we're doing? How do we sharpen the same pencil when we're angry or in a hurry? Is it the same as when we're calm or unhurried?
Even the smallest movement discloses something about the person executing the action because it is the person who's actually performing the deed. In other words, action doesn't happen by itself, we make it happen, and in doing so we leave traces of ourselves on the activity. The mind and body are interrelated. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
In Japan, a number of time-honored everyday activities (such as making tea, arranging flowers, and writing) have traditionally been deeply examined by their proponents. Students study how to make tea, perform martial arts, or write with a brush in the most skillful way possible to express themselves with maximum efficiency and minimum strain. Through this efficient, adroit, and creative performance, they arrive at art. But if they continue to delve even more deeply into their art, they discover principles that are truly universal, principles relating to life itself. Then, the art of brush writing becomes shodo - the "Way of the brush" - while the art of arranging flowers is elevated to the status of kado - the "Way of flowers." Through these Ways or Do forms, the Japanese have sought to realize the Way of living itself. They have approached the universal through the particular. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
A positive attitude is most easily arrived at through a deliberate and rational analysis of what's required to manifest unwavering positive thought patterns. First, reflect on the actual, present condition of your mind. In other words, is the mind positive or not? We've all met individuals who perceive themselves as positive people but don't appear as such. Since the mind is both invisible and intangible, it's therefore easier to see the accurate characteristics of the mind through a person's words, deeds, and posture.

For example, if we say, "It's absolutely freezing today! I'll probably catch a cold before the end of the day!" then our words expose a negative attitude. But if we say, "The temperature is very cold" (a simple statement of fact), then our expressions, and therefore attitude, are not negative. Sustaining an alert state in which self-awareness becomes possible gives us a chance to discover the origins of negativity. In doing so, we also have an opportunity to arrive at a state of positiveness, so that our words and deeds are also positive, making others feel comfortable, cheerful, and inspired. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
Shin-shin-toitsu-do includes a wide variety of stretching exercises, breathing methods, forms of seated meditation and moving meditation, massage-like healing arts, techniques of auto-suggestion, and mind and body coordination drills, as well as principles for the unification of
mind and body.

These principles of mind and body coordination are regarded as universal laws that express the workings of nature on human life. As such, they can be applied directly to an endless number of everyday activities and tasks. It is not uncommon when studying Japanese yoga to encounter classes and seminars that deal with the direct application of these universal principles to office work, sales, management, sports, art, music, public speaking, and a host of other topics.

How to use these precepts of mind and body integration to realize our full potential in any action is the goal. All drills, exercises, and practices of Shin-shin-toitsu-do are based on the same principles, thus linking intelligently a diversity of arts. But more than this, they serve as vehicles for grasping and cultivating the principles of mind and body coordination. And it is these principles that can be put to use directly, unobtrusively, and immediately in our daily lives. ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
Just as there's usually a space or interval between people passing on the street, even if it sometimes seems very small, a space also exists between thoughts. In your meditation, see if you can perceive this gap between thoughts. What is it, and does it belong to the realm of time? If it does not, then it's unborn and undying, beyond all conditioning, which is a psychological carry-over from the past to the present.

Whatever thoughts or internal conflicts come up - do nothing. Do not try to force them to cease or change. And don't "do nothing" to still the mind, quiet fears, or resolve conflicts - all of this is doing something. It only leads to more struggling and prevents you from seeing the actual nature of thought and internal conflict. Genuine attention has no motive.

This observation or listening doesn't involve effort. Effort merely distracts you from what's taking place in the instant. A kind of concentration exists that's not forced. We've all experienced listening or paying attention to something we truly enjoyed. At that moment, was effort required for concentration to take place? ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
Relaxing the shoulders is vital for relaxation in general. However, owing to the effects of gravity, relaxation is problematic unless we let the shoulders remain in their natural place. Let the shoulders drop, or settle in harmony with gravity, into their most comfortable position. It isn't too difficult to do this for a moment, but to sustain this condition unconsciously in our lives is another matter. We raise our shoulders unnaturally when we lean on a desk or hold the telephone between our shoulders and ears, when we are shocked by a loud noise, and who knows how many other times throughout the day. And the unsettling of the shoulders doesn't have to be large to produce anxiety, stiff necks, and headaches. Just slightly raising them will create tension, and this tension throws the nervous system out of balance.

When do we raise the shoulders in daily life? What are we feeling at that moment and leading up to that moment? Remembering that the body reflects the mind, and that the raising of the shoulders not only creates tension but also is a physical manifestation of psychological tension itself, what are the roots of this tension? Bringing the mind into the moment, let's observe ourselves in a state free of preconceived ideas or beliefs. Don't guess at these questions. Observe yourself in relationship to others and the universe ~ H.E. Davey
Hiroki Nakamura quotes by H.E. Davey
It's clear that if we use the mind attentively, mental power is increased, and if we concentrate the mind in the moment, it is easier to coordinate mind and body. But in terms of mind and body unity, is there something we can concentrate on that will reliably aid us in discovering this state of coordination?

In Japan, and to some degree other Asian countries, people have historically focused mental strength in the hara (abdomen) as a way of realizing their full potential. Japan has traditionally viewed the hara as the vital center of humanity in a manner not dissimilar to the Western view of the heart or brain. I once read that years ago Japanese children were asked to point to the origin of thoughts and feelings. They inevitably pointed toward the abdominal region. When the same question was asked of American children, most pointed at their heads or hearts. Likewise, Japan and the West have commonly held differing views of what is physical power or physical health, with Japan emphasizing the strength of the waist and lower body and Western people admiring upper body power. (Consider the ideal of the sumo wrestler versus the V-shaped Western bodybuilder with a narrow waist and broad shoulders.)

However, East and West also hold similar viewpoints regarding the hara, and we're perhaps not as dissimilar as some might imagine. For instance, hara ga nai hito describes a cowardly person, "a person with no hara." Sounds similar to our saying that so-and-so "ha ~ H.E. Davey
