In each club we went the dancers had the same moves, none nearly as sensuous as mine on any dance floor, but because they are scantily clad and stripping off the men go nuts and throw money at them. In the largest club and the last we went to I watched one pretty girl with big boobs pull a handful of twenties in one set. I followed her to the ladies-room to learn she only danced a few rounds per night and averaged $250 every night and with my face and body she said I would bank much more. ~ Darwun St. James
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Darwun St. James
In 1976, Michel Foucault was the first to argue that sexual identity was a modern evolution, and that to speak of hetero- or homosexuality in the pre-modern era was anachronistic. ~ Will Tosh
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Will Tosh
Freud's most radical legacy is the one that is the least actualized. After years of evolution on the topic, he came to the conclusion that any exclusive monosexual interest - regardless of whether it was hetero- or homosexual - was neurotic. In a sense Freud is saying what second-wave critic Kate Millet said a half-century late: "Homosexuality was invented by a straight world dealing with its own bisexuality." By the end of his writings, in 1937, Freud was downright blythe about bisexuality: "Every human being['s] . . . libido is distributed, either in a manifest or a latent fashion, over objects of both sexes. ~ Jennifer Baumgardner
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Jennifer Baumgardner
The left-right political dichotomy serves liberalism by not challenging it. Democracy sustains the status quo by offering the illusion of choice with no choice. Genuine opposition can only emerge if there is an alternative story with which to counter the current mythos. ~ John Dunn
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by John Dunn
A husband or wife did not have the right either to demand sex from his or her spouse or to refuse it, and there was a catalogue of forbidden sexual practices, notably homosexuality, bestiality, certain sexual positions, masturbation, the use of aphrodisiacs, and oral sex, which could incur a penance of three years' duration. Nor were people to make love on Sundays, holy days, or feast days, or during Lent, pregnancy, or menstruation. People believed that if these rules were disobeyed, deformed children or lepers might result. ~ Alison Weir
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Alison Weir
Porn is now so deeply embedded in our culture that it has become synonymous with sex to such a point that to criticize porn is to get slapped with the label anti-sex.
...
But what if you are a feminist who is pro-sex in the real sense of the word, pro that wonderful, fun, and deliciously creative force that bathes the body in delight and pleasure, and what you are actually against is porn sex? A kind of sex that is debased, dehumanized, formulaic, and generic, a kind of sex not based on individual fantasy, play, or imagination, but one that is the result of an industrial product created by those who get excited not by bodily contact but by market penetration and profits? Where, then, do you fit in the pro-sex, anti-sex dichotomy when pro-porn equals pro-sex? ~ Gail Dines
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Gail Dines
I wonder why religion is so strict on homosexuality than massacre. ~ M.F. Moonzajer
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by M.F. Moonzajer
Paradoxically, intensifiers like very, highly, and extremely also work like hedges. They not only fuzz up a writer's prose but can undermine his intent. If I'm wondering who pilfered the petty cash, it's more reassuring to hear Not Jones; he's an honest man than Not Jones; he's a very honest man. The reason is that unmodified adjectives and nouns tend to be interpreted categorically: honest means "completely honest," or at least "completely honest in the way that matters here" (just as Jack drank the bottle of beer implies that he chugged down all of it, not just a sip or two). As soon as you add an intensifier, you're turning an all-or-none dichotomy into a graduated scaled. True, you're trying to place your subject high on the scale - say, an 8.7 out of 10 - but it would have been better if the reader were not considering his relative degree of honesty in the first pace. That's the basis for the common advice (usually misattributed to Mark Twain) to "substitute damn every time you're inclined to write very; your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be" - though today the substitution would have to be of a word stronger than damn. ~ Steven Pinker
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Steven Pinker
The underlying struggle - between worlds of plenty and worlds of want; between the modern and the ancient; between those who embrace our teeming, colliding, irksome diversity, while still insisting on a set of values that binds us together, and those who would seek, under whatever flag or slogan or sacred text, a certainty and simplification that justifies cruelty toward those not like us ... ~ Barack Obama
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Barack Obama
How can the intensity of this shame be understood by those who have never experienced it? How can they understand the strength of the motivations produced by the desire to escape from it? ~ Didier Eribon
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Didier Eribon
A society that condemns homosexuality harms itself. (254) ~ Edward O. Wilson
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Edward O. Wilson
The scorn directed against drags is especially virulent; they have become the outcasts of gay life, the "queers" of homosexuality. In fact, they are classic scapegoats. Our old fears about our sissiness, still with us though masked by the new macho fascism, are now located, isolated, quarantined through our persecution of the transvestite. ~ Edmund White
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Edmund White
Washed and waiting. That is my life – my identity as one who is forgiven and spiritually cleansed and my struggle as one who perseveres with a frustrating thorn in the flesh, looking forward to what God has promised to do. That is what this book is all about. ~ Wesley Hill
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Wesley Hill
Have you ever noticed that the only people who go on about "homosexuality is a choice" is heterosexual Christians. This is quite revealing. Firstly they come to this conclusion because they already view same sex orientation as a sin and therefore, like their own sin, they can choose to sin or not. Secondly they lack understanding because they have never had to choose their orientation. It came naturally to them at puberty as orientation did to me. Trying to explain orientation to these people is like trying to explain white male privilege to a white male. They have known nothing else and never experienced discrimination, inequality or harassment as a female or having black skin. It's like trying to explain the concept of water to a gold fish. And they are completely oblivious to the fact that every moment of every day they are acting on their heterosexual orientation. Gay people get it because we've lived it.....and you never get hear gay people saying "I chose to be gay". You do sometimes get gay people saying they chose to be straight but on deeper examination you realise they are actually "situational heterosexuals" as their orientation has not changed; just some behaviours. ~ Anthony Venn-Brown OAM
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Anthony Venn-Brown OAM
There's even less acceptance of bisexuality than homosexuality. Binary thinking still holds strong sway with the general population, and the exclusive homosexual is more understandable to the average person than is an individual who wanders the Kinsey scale with apparent - and alarming - abandon. ~ Martin Duberman
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Martin Duberman
Homosexuality is assuredly no advantage, but it is nothing to be ashamed of, no vice, no degradation; it cannot be classified as an illness; we consider it to be a variation of the sexual function, produced by a certain arrest of sexual development. Many highly respectable individuals of ancient and modern times have been homosexuals, several of the greatest men among them (Plato, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.). It is a great injustice to persecute homosexuality as a crime
and a cruelty, too. If you do not believe me, read the books of Havelock Ellis. ~ Sigmund Freud
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Sigmund Freud
Suddenly nothing in the world seemed to Guy more glamorous than homosexuality, as romantic as heady white gardenias nested in polished green leaves. ~ Edmund White
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Edmund White
A number of months ago I read in the newspaper that there was a supreme court ruling which states that homosexuals in america have no constitutional rights against the government's invasion of their privacy. The paper states that homosexuality is traditionally condemned in america & only people who are heterosexual or married or who have families can expect those constitutional rights. There were no editorials. Nothing. Just flat cold type in the morning paper informing people of this. In most areas of the u.s.a it is possible to murder a man & when one is brought to trial, one has only to say that the victim was a queer & that he tried to touch you & the courts will set you free. When I read the newspaper article I felt something stirring in my hands; I felt a sensation like seeing oneself from miles above the earth or looking at one's reflection in a mirror through the wrong end of a telescope. Realizing that I have nothing left to lose in my actions I let my hands become weapons, my teeth become weapons, every bone & muscle & fiber & ounce of blood become weapons, & I feel prepared for the rest of my life. ~ David Wojnarowicz
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by David Wojnarowicz
Allowing homosexuality means allowing satanic rights. ~ Yahya Jammeh
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Yahya Jammeh
It's a good thing that columnists don't make homosexuality their last taboo anymore. But I wish the columnists themselves would come out too. ~ Michael Musto
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Michael Musto
There's a nonsensical dichotomy that exists within you after you break up with someone - especially if it's someone you loved deeply. A large part of you hopes they'll move on, be happy, follow their dreams to the fullest.
That's the side you show the world.
But a smaller part of you, whether you admit its existence or not, secretly and selfishly yearns for a reality in which that person would never move on. Never forget your love, or replace you with someone else; never be fully complete again, without you by their side.
That's the side we hide away, the innermost part of ourselves that we push down below the socially-acceptable responses to heartbreak. ~ Julie Johnson
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Julie Johnson
The more I follow grace, the more I'm drawn to him (God), the more I'm willing to stand up for people being persecuted.. This sounds so churchy, but I felt like God spoke to my heart and said '(homosexuality) is not a sin'. ~ Jay Bakker
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Jay Bakker
Human nature presents human minds with a puzzle which they have not yet solved and may never succeed in solving, for all that we can tell. The dichotomy of a human being into 'soul' and 'body' is not a datum of experience. No one has ever been, or ever met, a living human soul without a body ... Someone who accepts - as I myself do, taking it on trust - the present-day scientific account of the Universe may find it impossible to believe that a living creature, once dead, can come to life again; but, if he did entertain this belief, he would be thinking more 'scientifically' if he thought in the Christian terms of a psychosomatic resurrection than if he thought in the shamanistic terms of a disembodied spirit. ~ Arnold Joseph Toynbee
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Arnold Joseph Toynbee
Of course many of us were loaded with self-hate and wanted to change. How could it have been otherwise? All we heard and read about homosexuality was that crap about how we were inverts, perverts, queers - a menace to children, poison to everybody else, doomed never to be happy. ~ Lillian Faderman
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Lillian Faderman
Some men became fathers mainly to show that they are not gay. Some, only to hide the fact that they are. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
On the Hunger Games Fan Race fail and the portrayal of POC in fantasy literature:
It is as if the POC in the text are walking around with a great big red sign over them for some editors and it reads I AM NOT A REAL CHARACTER. I AM A PROBLEM YOU MUST DEAL WITH. The white characters are permitted to saunter about with their physical descriptions hanging out all over the place, but best not make mention of dark skin or woolly/curly hair or dark eyes (Unless, of course, that character is white. None of my white-skinned dark-eyed characters had any problem being described as such. And I'm pretty sure that Sól's curly hair never gave anyone a single pause for thought.) As I said, I understand the desire not to define a POC simply by their physical attributes, and I understand cutting physical descriptions if no other character is described physically – but pussyfooting about in this manner with POC is doing nothing but white wash the characters themselves. It's already much too hard to get readers to latch onto the fact that some characters may not be caucasian, why must we dance about their physical description as if it were some kind of shameful dirty little secret. You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the way homosexuality used to only ever be hinted at in texts. It was up to the reader to 'read between the lines' or 'its there if you look for it' and all that total bullshit which used to be the norm. ~ Celine Kiernan
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Celine Kiernan
I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family, and I don't want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option - it isn't. ~ Carl Paladino
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Carl Paladino
I was born of heterosexual parents. I was taught by heterosexual teachers in a fiercely heterosexual society. Television ads and newspaper ads - fiercely heterosexual. A society that puts down homosexuality. And why am I a homosexual if I'm affected by role models? I should have been a heterosexual. And no offense meant, but if teachers are going to affect you as role models, there'd be a lot of nuns running around the streets today. ~ Harvey Milk
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Harvey Milk
If you have an issue with homosexuality, then it comes to your own fear and your own darkness. ~ Tori Amos
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Tori Amos
John and I noticed that whenever we talked about our children Wystan reached for his cats. ~ Thekla Clark
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Thekla Clark
If only I could change the world around me, perhaps my truth won't one day be the end of me. ~ Dan Pearce
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Dan Pearce
The combination of drugs, homosexuality, some good prose recited on screen ... In the sweat lodge ceremony we went through, did you get any glimpse of the Ugly Spirit, what that was historically or biographically? ~ Allen Ginsberg
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Allen Ginsberg
No relief was forthcoming from my then-Catholic faith, which said the practice of homosexuality was a 'mortal sin' subject to damnation. ~ James McGreevey
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by James McGreevey
There are two kinds of perfect: The one you can never achieve, and the other, by just being yourself. ~ Lauren King
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Lauren King
Now when you have administrators deciding what sexuality is, and what's a taboo and what's not in terms of content, you got guys, like, Trent Lott who equates homosexuality with a disease. ~ Richard Serra
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Richard Serra
You have two kinds of secrets. The ones only you know. The ones only you don't. ~ James Richardson
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by James Richardson
Viruses have no morality, no sense of good and evil, the deserving or the undeserving ... AIDS is not the swift sword with which the Lord punishes the evil practitioners of male homosexuality and intravenous drug use. It is simply an opportunistic virus that does what it has to do to stay alive. ~ Chris Crutcher
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Chris Crutcher
It isn't that some gay will get some rights. It's that everyone else in our state will lose rights. For instance, parents will lose the right to protect and direct the upbringing of their children. Because our K-12 public school system, of which ninety per cent of all youth are in the public school system, they will be required to learn that homosexuality is normal, equal and perhaps you should try it. And that will occur immediately, that all schools will begin teaching homosexuality. ~ Michele Bachmann
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Michele Bachmann
I am a dichotomy of tastes. I'm big on water, and I do a protein drink in the morning, but then I eat off the kids' menu after that. So, there's only like six foods I like. I like quesadillas. I like hamburgers. I like sushi. I like pizza, PB&J, or breakfast any time of the day. ~ Brad D. Smith
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Brad D. Smith
Such figures as Boy George do not disturb me nearly so much as do those relentlessly hetero (sexual?) keepers of the keys and seals, those who know what the world needs in the way of order and who are ready and willing to supply that order. ~ James A. Baldwin
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by James A. Baldwin
The root of heterosexual fear of male homosexuality is in the fact that anyone might be gay. Straight men aren't threatened by a flamboyant faggot because they know they aren't like that; they're threatened by a guy who's just like they are who turns out to be queer. ~ Vito Russo
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Vito Russo
The dichotomy between art and industry is totally dysfunctional in terms of film. ~ Ann Macbeth
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Ann Macbeth
Men always want to be a woman's first love - women like to be a man's last romance. ~ Oscar Wilde
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Oscar Wilde
It's important to stress what I didn't find. I did not prove that homosexuality is genetic, or find a genetic cause for being gay. I didn't show that gay men are born that way, the most common mistake people make in interpreting my work. Nor did I locate a gay center in the brain. ~ Simon LeVay
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Simon LeVay
How deep congenital sex-inversion roots may be gathered from the fact that the pleasure-dream of the male Urning has to do with male persons, and of the female with females. ~ Richard Von Krafft-Ebing
Hetero Homosexuality Dichotomy quotes by Richard Von Krafft-Ebing
No, this wasn't a 1960s student riot. Out there were the streets. There were no nice dorms for sleeping. No school cafeteria for certain food. No affluent parents to send us checks. There was a ghetto riot on home turf. We already had our war wounds. So this was just another battle. Nobody thought of it as history, herstory, my-story, your-story, or our-story. We were being denied a place to dance together. That's all. The total charisma of a revolution in our CONSCIOUSNESS rising from the gutter to the gut to the heart and the mind was here. Non-existence (or part existence) was coming into being, and being into becoming. Our Mother Stonewall was giving birth to a new era and we were the midwives. ~ New York Public Library
