Poetry is necessary, but is the poet? ~ Carlos Drummond De Andrade
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Carlos Drummond De Andrade
Universe, vast universe, my heart is vaster. ~ Carlos Drummond De Andrade
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Carlos Drummond De Andrade
We've worn our words to death,
when now I say: my love,
nothing happens, absolutely nothing.
And yet, before the words were spent,
I'm certain
that everything trembled
at the mere murmur of your name
in the silence of my heart.
Now we have nothing to give.
There is nothing within you
that asks me for water.
The past is useless as a rag.
And I've told you already: the words are spent.
Good-bye. ~ Eugenio De Andrade
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Eugenio De Andrade
Easy is to occupy a place in a telephone book. Difficult is to occupy someone's heart; know that you're really loved. ~ Carlos Drummond De Andrade
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Carlos Drummond De Andrade
José

What now, José?
The party's over,
the lights are off,
the crowd's gone,
the night's gone cold,
what now, José?
what now, you?
you without a name,
who mocks the others,
you who write poetry
who love, protest?
what now, José?

You have no wife,
you have no speech
you have no affection,
you can't drink,
you can't smoke,
you can't even spit,
the night's gone cold,
the day didn't come,
the tram didn't come,
laughter didn't come
utopia didn't come
and everything ended
and everything fled
and everything rotted
what now, José?

what now, José?
Your sweet words,
your instance of fever,
your feasting and fasting,
your library,
your gold mine,
your glass suit,
your incoherence,
your hate - what now?

Key in hand
you want to open the door,
but no door exists;
you want to die in the sea,
but the sea has dried;
you want to go to Minas
but Minas is no longer there.
José, what now?

If you screamed,
if you moaned,
if you played
a Viennese waltz,
if you slept,
if you tired,
if you died…
But you don't die,
you're stubborn, José!

Alone in the dark
like a wild animal,
without tradition,
without a naked wall
to lean against,
without a black horse
that flees gallopin ~ Carlos Drummond De Andrade
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Carlos Drummond De Andrade
We are slaves to the cost of living. ~ Carolina Maria De Jesus
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Carolina Maria De Jesus
Nor is there any valid reason to reject the idea of God or the notion of the sacred just because of the sickly expression Christianity has given to them, any more than it is necessary to break with aristocratic principles on the pretext that they have been caricatured by the bourgeoisie. ~ Alain De Benoist
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Alain De Benoist
Well, I must endure the presence of a few caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
Have you ever attempted to organize something like peace? The moment you do, you have power conflicts and group wars within the organization. The only way to have peace is to let it grow wild. ~ Anthony De Mello
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Anthony De Mello
If you say we are the same. Why do you then want to be treated differently and special ?

If you say you are different. Why do you want to change me to be like you ? ~ De Philosopher DJ Kyos
Guberman De Andrade quotes by De Philosopher DJ Kyos
Never lose sight of the fact that all human felicity lies in man's imagination, and that he cannot think to attain it unless he heeds all his caprices. The most fortunate of persons is he who has the most means to satisfy his vagaries. ~ Marquis De Sade
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Marquis De Sade
Do not wish to be anything except what you are. ~ Francis De Sales
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Francis De Sales
On Ira Gershwin:
I remember when he was given the manuscript of a novel written by a woman friend who had hopes of having it published. To his astonishment it turned out to be the dirtiest, most pornographic book he had ever read. When the lady mentioned that she intended to use a nom de plume, Ira suggested she call herself Henrietta Miller. ~ Oscar Levant
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Oscar Levant
Vigorous Scout games are the best form of physical education because most of them bring in moral education. ~ Baden Powell De Aquino
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Baden Powell De Aquino
The world will avenge itself upon all happiness in which it has no share. ~ Honore De Balzac

All is not gold that glisters. ~ Miguel De Cervantes

Stars shine long after they've flamed out and the shine they shine with is love. ~ Matt De La Pena
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Matt De La Pena

Guberman De Andrade quotes by Michel De Montaigne
She made her choice. She loved Oliver. Jack was not hers to love, and never had been. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
This is the violence that captures our fear and attention, even though only 20 percent of all homicides are committed by strangers. The other 80 percent are committed by people we know, so I'll focus on those we hire, those we work with, those we fire, those we date, those we marry, those we divorce. ~ Gavin De Becker
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Gavin De Becker
In every conflict, some rhetoric and posturing, so we should take that aside. When facts is that everybody is exhausted and that no one believes that there is a military solution to this. The solution must be a political one. ~ Staffan De Mistura
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Staffan De Mistura
As soon as coffee is in your stomach, there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move ... similes arise, the paper is covered. Coffee is your ally and writing ceases to be a struggle. ~ Honore De Balzac
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Honore De Balzac
You wouldn't want any creative process to lose its sense of fun and adventure, but that doesn't mean you can't take it seriously as well. ~ Charles De Lint
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Charles De Lint
Secrets of the incomprehensible wisdom of God, unknown to any besides Himself! Man, sprung up only of a few days, wants to penetrate, and to set bounds to it. Who is it that hath known the mind of the Lord, or who hath been His counselor? ~ Jeanne Marie Bouvier De La Motte Guyon
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Jeanne Marie Bouvier De La Motte Guyon
The heart that once has been your shrine for other loves is too divine ~ Alfred De Musset
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Alfred De Musset
The corollary of the possibility of conceiving other worlds - this one being, de facto, only a domain - is the impossibility of moving beyond the world we inhabit and the imperious necessity of accepting its frontiers as limits. ~ Michel Foucault
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Michel Foucault
A person truly humbled permits not anything to put him in a rage. As it is pride which dies the last in the soul, so it is passion which is last destroyed in the outward conduct. A soul thoroughly dead to itself, finds nothing of rage left. ~ Jeanne Marie Bouvier De La Motte Guyon
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Jeanne Marie Bouvier De La Motte Guyon
There are, on the other hand, very great men, very holy men, very pure men in every way, whose knowledge is wide and vast and deep, whose spiritual stature is great; but when they reach Buddhahood, instead of feeling the call of almighty love to return and help those who have gone less far, they go ahead into the supernal light - pass onwards and enter the unspeakable bliss of nirvana - and leave mankind behind. Such are the Pratyeka Buddhas. Though exalted, nevertheless they do not rank in unutterable sublimity with the Buddhas of Compassion.

The Pratyeka Buddha, he who achieves Buddhahood for himself, does not do it selfishly, however; does not do it merely in order to gratify self, and he does no harm to others; if he did he could never reach even his solitary Buddhahood. But he does it and achieves nirvana automatically, so to speak, following the lofty impulses of his being. Nevertheless he leaves the world behind enslaved in the chains of matter and forgotten by him.

The Pratyeka Buddha concentrates on the one thing - self-advancement for spiritual ends. It is a noble path in a way, but although it is a more rapid path, nevertheless being essentially a selfish path, the karmic records will show deeper lines ultimately to be wiped out than will those of the other striver after the spiritual life who follows the path of complete self-renunciation, and who even gives up all hope of self-advancement. The latter is of course by far the nobler path ~ G. De Purucker
Guberman De Andrade quotes by G. De Purucker
The passions do not die out; they burn out. ~ Ninon De L'Enclos
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Ninon De L'Enclos
Action is the music of our life. Like music, it starts from a pause of leisure, a silence of activity which our initiative attacks; then it develops according to its inner logic, passes its climax, seeks its cadence, ends, and restores silence, leisure again. Action and leisure are thus interdependent; echoing and recalling each other, so that action enlivens leisure with its memories and anticipations, and leisure expands and raises action beyond its mere immediate self and gives it a permanent meaning. ~ Salvador De Madariaga
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Salvador De Madariaga
Can you really change anything, Joel? ~ Marianne De Pierres
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Marianne De Pierres

Guberman De Andrade quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
In many walks of life, a conscience is a more expensive encumbrance than a wife or a carriage. ~ Thomas De Quincey
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Thomas De Quincey

Guberman De Andrade quotes by Edward De Bono

It's not you she hates, Schuyler. It's me. She just turned her anger outward because she couldn't bring herself to hate whom she loves. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
Every now and then the breeze carries a distinct hint of eau de sheep."
"Really?" Annabelle sniffed experimentally. "I don't smell a thing."
"That's because you don't have a nose," Lillian replied.
"I beg your pardon?" Annabelle asked with a quizzical grin.
"Oh, you have a regular sort of nose," Lillian explained, "but I have 'a nose.' I'm unusually sensitive to smell. Give me any perfume, and I can separate it into all its parts. Rather like listening to a musical chord and dividing all its notes. Before we left New York, I even helped to develop a formula for scented soap, for my father's factory."
"Could you create a perfume, do you think?" Annabelle asked in fascination.
"I daresay I could create an excellent perfume," Lillian said confidently. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Lisa Kleypas
The whole point of cryopreserving only one's head is based on the idea that one can simply grow in the laboratory an entire new body, without a head, and stick it onto the cryopreserved head. ~ Aubrey De Grey
Guberman De Andrade quotes by Aubrey De Grey
