Of course it's kitsch, and of course our love for every cult figure gets called kitsch when we want to separate the suffering it requires to create a symbol that lives in the world from the ravages of one's own life. ~ W. Scott Poole
Gothic Fantasy quotes by W. Scott Poole
I never really wanted to die. But I followed through anyway. The pain in my heart was excruciating, and death was beautiful. ~ Rae Hachton
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Rae Hachton
Admitting defeat? How un-huntress like of you. ~ Yvonne Nicolas
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Yvonne Nicolas
Crossing my arms over my chest, I said, a little too heartily, "So this is the library." There certainly couldn't be any doubt on that score; never had a room so resembled popular preconception. The walls were paneled in rich, dark wood, although the finish had worn off the edges in spots, where books had scraped against the wood in passing one too many times. A whimsical iron staircase curved to the balcony, the steps narrowing into pie-shaped wedges that promised a broken neck to the unwary. I tilted my head back, dizzied by the sheer number of books, row upon row, more than the most devoted bibliophile could hope to consume in a lifetime of reading.

In one corner, a pile of crumbling paperbacks - James Bond, I noticed, squinting sideways, in splashy seventies covers - struck a slightly incongruous note. I spotted a moldering pile of Country Life cheek by jowl with a complete set of Trevelyan's History of England in the original Victorian bindings. The air was rich with the smell of decaying paper and old leather bindings. Downstairs, where I stood with Colin, the shelves made way for four tall windows, two to the east and two to the north, all hung with rich red draperies checked with blue, in the obverse of the red-flecked blue carpet. On the west wall, the bookshelves surrendered pride of place to a massive fireplace, topped with a carved hood to make Ivanhoe proud, and large enough to roast a serf. In short, the library was a Gothic fantasy. ~ Lauren Willig
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Lauren Willig
With painstaking rumination, the tips of his fingers grazed over my neck, a deafening silence. I didn't move as his hand paused at the base of my throat. He listened to the arrhythmic beating of my heart, my pulse thumping beneath his fingers. He kissed me along my neckline and throat. I almost burst apart from the longing. My blood burned for him. ~ Rae Hachton
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Rae Hachton
Swelter's eyes meet those of his enemy, and never has there held between four globes of gristle so sinister a hell of hatred. Had the flesh, the fibres, and the bones of the chef and those of Mr Flay been conjured away and away down that dark corridor leaving only their four eyes suspended in mid-air outside the Earl's door, then, surely, they must have reddened to the hue of Mars, reddened and smouldered, and at last broken into flame, so intense was their hatred - broken into flame and circled about one another in ever-narrowing gyres and in swifter and yet swifter flight until, merged into one sizzling globe of ire they must surely have fled, the four in one, leaving a trail of blood behind them in the cold grey air of the corridor, until, screaming as they fly beneath innumerable arches and down the endless passageways of Gormenghast, they found their eyeless bodies once again, and reentrenched themselves in startled sockets. ~ Mervyn Peake
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Mervyn Peake
I should hex the IRS. ~ Laura Oliva
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Laura Oliva
When I am nothing but shadow, you are the light that guides me back. ~ Kristen Callihan
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Kristen Callihan
He must prove himself strong enough to protect her, gentle enough to win her heart, and worthy of the great gift of her love and her unconditional trust. She must find the courage to embrace the darkest shadows of his soul, and the even greater courage to bare the shadows of her own soul to him. When all barriers are sundered, all secrets revealed and accepted, she can complete the bond; and they will no longer be two separate people, but rather one person, one soul, complete for eternity, stronger together than either could ever be apart. ~ C.L. Wilson
Gothic Fantasy quotes by C.L. Wilson
I watched women file in, hoping each new one in a smart dress suit was a fairy godmother carrying my new fate. I'd catch her glance as she passed, hoping she'd see the star pattern in my eyes. Oh, it's you. I found you. Does every child have this fantasy - or just the sad ones? ~ Sarah Hepola
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Sarah Hepola
I am a more modern female vampire since I came just when our world was disappearing due to the intromission of this future.-Enyo ~ Carolina Cody Aldaz
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Carolina Cody Aldaz
Blind ambition drives the foolish, while the soul directs the wise. ~ Erin Forbes
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Erin Forbes
You are afraid that you have been here with me too long, and are not really white anymore. That's probably true, but you were never really white in the first place. Nobody is. Nobody has, even, ever wanted to be white, unless they are afraid of being black. But being black is nothing to be afraid of. I knew that before I met you, and I have learned it again, through you. Perhaps being white is not a conceivable condition, but a terrifying fantasy, a moral choice. ~ James Baldwin
Gothic Fantasy quotes by James Baldwin
I'm just writing what I know. I've never been much of a reader of fantasy, and I think you write what you, personally, enjoy reading. ~ Sarah Dessen
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Sarah Dessen
A perceptive French critic has argued that in an age of deepening illiteracy, when even the educated have only a smattering of classical or theological knowledge, erudition is of itself a kind of fantasy, a surrealistic construct. ~ George Steiner
Gothic Fantasy quotes by George Steiner
I'm calling this place the Tardis," she said, continuing to scan the different locations. "We're not calling it the Tardis," I said. Of course, if she knew what it could really do, I'd never change her mind.
"Why the hell not?" she asked.
"Copyright infringement. ~ H.D. Smith
Gothic Fantasy quotes by H.D. Smith
I was pregnable once," Merill thought to contribute. She remembered how troublesome it made getting around, having a ripe belly. Couldn't roll properly, couldn't hop properly, couldn't romp or flop properly. There were the cravings for roasted cabbage - she loathed cabbage, with its leaves and growing in rows. And labor! Merill passed out during childbirth. She'd endured burns, lacerations, rips, serrated teeth, nails, hooks and a trove of unmentionable harm-inflictors. Labor trounced them all and wriggled gleefully in the spray of blood and gore. "Being pregnable is no good. No good at all. Like growing a bitter melon in your belly. ~ Darrell Drake
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Darrell Drake

Gothic Fantasy quotes by Truth Devour
Max, you cannot stay in the background forever. It is time to stand out in front. You have all that you need." Analea ~ Kathy Cyr
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Kathy Cyr
Each day, at the same time, Jude would return and they would be there, led by Webb, whose life could not have been more different than his. Where Webb's memories of childhood were idyllic and earthy, Jude's reeked of indifference. Webb read fantasy; Jude read realism. Webb believed a tree house was the perfect place for gaining a different perspective on the world; Jude saw it as perfect for surveillance and working out who or what was a threat to them. They argued about sport codes and song lyrics. Jude saw the rain-dirty valley; Webb saw Brigadoon. Yet, despite all this, they connected, and the nights they spent in the tree house discussing their brave new worlds and not so brave emotions made everything else in their lives insignificant. Somehow the world of Webb and Fitz and Tate and Narnie became the focus of Jude's life. ~ Melina Marchetta
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Melina Marchetta
I should probably give up pretending I'm going to be somebody someday, he said, but a rich fantasy life is one of my best qualities.
- Fantasy Life ~ Brian Andreas
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Brian Andreas
He had to die someday too. He might do it on sheets with a six-hundred-plus thread count, but he'd die just the same. Death wouldn't forget about him. ~ John Howard Matthews
Gothic Fantasy quotes by John Howard Matthews
I flinched when his hands lifted, although it was more of a reaction to everything that had been happening to me, not necessarily because he was Death. He stilled. "You're sad," he said. "Let me help you."
"There isn't anything you can do."
"I can comfort you. ~ H.D. Smith

I think I knew even then it would be my maps that would take me across the world, to places and people unknown and into cultures otherwise closed to me. In mapping them I would come to know them a little and at times my very eagerness pained me. ~ Julie Haydon
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Julie Haydon
It's important for little girls to have characters to look up to, and also be entertained by the fantasy parts. There are a lot of not-so-good role models out there for younger kids, it's good to have someone they can relate to on television. ~ Phoebe Tonkin
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Phoebe Tonkin
A lot of people hate my skepticism, and I think I understand why. The psychics offer wonders and endless possibilities in a world that often seems difficult and mundane. They promise health, wealth, wisdom, eternal life. But if you examine the record, it's not the psychics but the hard-nosed scientists who have actually delivered the things that improve human life. And, to me, science describes a world far more interesting than any psychic fantasy. It's a good world

but it's ours. So we'd better learn to live with it, the way it is. ~ James Randi
Gothic Fantasy quotes by James Randi
And fantasy it was, for we were not strong, only aggressive; we were not free, merely licensed; we were not compassionate, we were polite; not good, but well behaved. We courted death in order to call ourselves brave, and hid like thieves from life. ~ Toni Morrison
Gothic Fantasy quotes by Toni Morrison
Are you here about the infestation?"
