The last thing we want to admit is that the forbidden fruit on which we have been gnawing since reaching the magic age of twenty-one is the same mealy Golden Delicious that we stuff into our children's lunch boxes. ~ Lionel Shriver
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Lionel Shriver
I used to be into 'forbidden fruit', but I've moved on to'verboten vegetables ~ Josh Stern
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Josh Stern
Not since the serpent
approached Eve in the Garden had a woman been so tempted by forbidden fruit. ~ Teresa Medeiros
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Teresa Medeiros
[I]t was with a good end in mind – that of acquiring the knowledge of good and evil – that Eve allowed herself to be carried away and eat the forbidden fruit. But Adam was not moved by this desire for knowledge, but simply by greed: he ate it because he heard Eve say it tasted good. ~ Moderata Fonte
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Moderata Fonte
The serpent's objective is clear. He seeks to drive a wedge of doubt into Adam and Eve's confidence in what God has told them. Satan knows the power of undermining a human being's confidence in what God has revealed. Sadly, the serpent's temptation was successful. Adam and Eve second-guessed God's trustworthiness and then rejected his command. They sinned and ate the forbidden fruit. This was the beginning of the fallen world we all experience. All generations following would have a natural bent for rebelling against God and being skeptical or indifferent to what he has said. To this day, Satan's objective has not changed. Though his questions look a little different at times, they all contain the same idea ~ Jon Morrison
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Jon Morrison
Have you ever considered what Adam and Eve were doing when they got into so much trouble? As I read the story, they were shopping. The forbidden fruit was not scattered throughout the garden, not in many places, not in multiple locations, but one place, one site, one location and one location only. Perhaps they just came upon it, "Oh, look, the forbidden fruit ... " or, perhaps, they were looking for something, searching, shopping. Somewhere in their dissatisfaction they thought, "If only we had something more ... ~ David W. Jones
Forbidden Fruit quotes by David W. Jones
Lady Ponsonby was right. The forbidden fruit isn't shaped like an apple. It's shaped like a banana. ~ Michelle Marcos
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Michelle Marcos
When once the woman has tempted us, and we have tasted the forbidden fruit, there is no such thing as checking our appetites, whatever the consequences may be. ~ George Washington
Forbidden Fruit quotes by George Washington
Andi was forbidden fruit, and even if she wasn't, there was no way a pure country bumpkin like her could handle a self-confessed pussy pounding warrior like me. ~ Kirsty Dallas
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Kirsty Dallas
They took a bite from the forbidden fruit, and the fruit bit back. ~ Kevin DeYoung
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Kevin DeYoung
He is entering through the darkest passage of my heart, without even knocking at the door. A tree of forbidden fruit, walking down close to tempt me. ~ Samreen Ahsan
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Samreen Ahsan
It happened on a Valentine night.
Chris was an expert panther, a James Bond. Sarah was a lamb, a Virgin Mary.
It was a night of mixed feelings and inner conflict. In her flesh she felt walking on liquid gold; but in her mind, heart and soul she could not help but hate herself for partaking of this "forbidden fruit" of pleasure. Not long was the thrill gone that her soul went sinking in the quick sands of condemnation, "did you have to do it? ~ Moffat Machingura
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Moffat Machingura
For a long time I had not approached the forbidden fruit called happiness, but it was now tempting me with a melancholy persistence. I felt as though Sonoko were an abyss above which I stood poised. ~ Yukio Mishima
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Yukio Mishima
Forbidden fruit is the sweetest, Warren, my darling. ~ Patricia Briggs
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Patricia Briggs
What censorship accomplishes, creating an unreal and hypocritical mythology, fomenting an attraction for forbidden fruit, inhibiting the creative minds among us and fostering an illicit trade. Above all, it curtails the right of the individual, be he creator or consumer, to satisfy his intellect and his interest without harm. In our law-rooted society, we are not the keeper of our brother's morals - only of his rights. ~ Judith Crist
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Judith Crist
Temptation...
What would the warning label in your life say? Something like this..
"You will think this is a way to ease the loneliness you feel. You will think it will make you feel all the things you deserve to feel: beautiful, respected, noticed, appreciated for who you are, and validated as special. You will think that you are the exception in being able to handle a flirty friendship without crossing any lines and that it won't hurt anyone. You will think this is going wonderful, because it stirs up such warm feelings in those places deep inside your heart that have felt cold for so long. You will think all those warm fuzzies are good for you. But it's all a lie. You are being blinded with desire. You are being made deaf to truth. You are reaching for a forbidden fruit that looks so good on the outside but is filled with razors on the inside. You can't even take a bite without getting cut. And, worst of all, even though you are bleeding from that first bite, you'll get so enamored with it's alluring sweetness that you'll keep eating it. You will devour this sin without realizing its devouring you. Trust me, your feelings are lying to you. This won't fix your disappointments. It will only multiply them into devastations. ~ Lysa TerKeurst
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Lysa TerKeurst
He is like a forbidden fruit, attracting everyone around him into the paradise of pleasure. I know the consequences of trying this fruit, but still, I am tempted to take the risk. ~ Samreen Ahsan
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Samreen Ahsan
I think our last kiss was meant to be quick and chaste, but after the first touch of his lips fire leaped up and roared through my belly. My fingers yanked him close, digging into his back, and his arms crushed me to him as if wanting to meld us together. I knotted my fingers in his hair and bit down on his bottom lip, making him groan. His lips parted, and my tongue swept in to dance with his. There was nothing sweet or gentle in our last kiss; it was filled with sorrow and desperation, of the bitter knowledge that we could've had something perfect, but it just wasn't meant to be. ~ Julie Kagawa
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Julie Kagawa
Alas! the forbidden fruits were eaten,
And thereby the warm life of reason congealed.
A grain of wheat eclipsed the sun of Adam,
Like as the Dragon's tail dulls the brightness of the moon. ~ Rumi Masnavi-I Ma'navi
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Rumi Masnavi-I Ma'navi
Augustine, who assumed that Genesis 1 was chapter 1 in a book that contained the literal words of God, and that Genesis 2 was the second chapter in the same book, put the two chapters together and read the latter as a sequel. Genesis 2, he assumed, described the fall from the perfection and original goodness of creation depicted in chapter 1. So almost inevitably the Christian scriptures from the fourth century on were interpreted against the background of this (mis) understanding.

The primary trouble with this theory was that by the fourth century of the Common Era there were no Jews to speak of left in the Christian movement, and therefore the only readers and interpreters of the ancient Hebrew myths were Gentiles, who had no idea what these stories originally meant. Consequently, they interpreted them as perfection established by God in chapter 1, followed by perfection ruined by human beings in chapter 2. Why was that a problem? Well I, for one, have never known a Jewish scripture scholar to treat the Garden of Eden story in the same way that Gentiles treat it. Jews tend to see this story not as a narrative about sin entering the world, but as a parable about the birth of self-consciousness. It is, for the Jews, not a fall into sin, but a step into humanity. It is the birth of a new relationship with God, changing from master-servant to interdependent cooperation. The forbidden fruit was not from an apple tree, as so many who don't bother to read the text seem ~ John Shelby Spong
Forbidden Fruit quotes by John Shelby Spong
But even quashed rebellions leave us different. Because freedom may be a forbidden fruit in tyrannies, but once tasted, it is unforgettable. ~ Justina Chen
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Justina Chen
I read a review on the Herald, it says it takes 40 minutes to get to the first sex session apparently and the whole movie only contains 11 minutes of forbidden fruit, ~ John Key
Forbidden Fruit quotes by John Key
Words. The forbidden fruit seemed good and desirable to Eve; yet it cast her out of Eden. The walking idly on his palace roof seemed harmless enough to David; yet it ended in adultery and murder. Sin rarely seems sin at first beginnings. Let us then watch and pray, lest we fall into temptation. We may give wickedness smooth names, but we cannot alter its nature and character in the sight of God. Let us remember St. Paul's words: "Exhort one another daily, lest any be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin." (Heb. iii. 13.) ~ J.C. Ryle
Forbidden Fruit quotes by J.C. Ryle
I love you, too... I did, I do, I always have. I realized that then. I love him too, but what I have what you and I have is different. If I'd never met you, maybe he would be enough. But I've taken a bite of the forbidden fruit. I've eaten from the tree of knowledge. I've seen hoe much more there is. ~ Jill Santopolo
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Jill Santopolo
While forbidden fruit is said to taste sweeter, it usually spoils faster. ~ Abigail Van Buren
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Abigail Van Buren
Presently a serpent sought them out privately, and came to them walking upright, which was the way of serpents in those days. The serpent said the forbidden fruit would store their vacant minds with knowledge. So they ate it, which was quite natural, for man is so made that he eagerly wants to know; whereas the priest, like God, whose imitator and representative he is, has made it his business from the beginning to keep him from knowing any useful thing. ~ Mark Twain
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Mark Twain
Sin is not hurtful because it is forbidden,
but it is forbidden because it is hurtful. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Jill had always wanted to know what it was like to be allowed to wear her hair long, to put on a pretty skirt, to sit next to her sister and hear people cooing over what a lovely matched pair they were. She liked sports, yes, and she liked reading her books; she liked knowing things. She would probably have been a soccer player even if her father hadn't insisted, would definitely have watched spaceships on TV and superheroes in the movies, because the core of who Jill was had nothing to do with the desires of her parents and everything to do with the desires of her heart. But she would have done some of those things in a dress. Having half of everything she wanted denied to her for so long had left her vulnerable to them: they were the forbidden fruit, and like all forbidden things, even the promise of them was delicious. ~ Seanan McGuire
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Seanan McGuire
There is simply something wrong with my conscience. I do try to wrestle with the devil as I ought, but, like Eve, even when tempted by the Forbidden Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, I succumb. Good as they are, how could my parents have bred a daughter like me? ~ Miriam Brenaman
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Miriam Brenaman
I love making genre films. It's something I've really been attracted to since I was a kid, mostly because, as a kid, it was forbidden fruit. ~ Patrick Lussier
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Patrick Lussier
There's no disillusionment like learning that forbidden fruit can be unpleasant. ~ Rae Foley
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Rae Foley
This man was different from all others; he was forbidden fruit, the outsider. Her mother had trained her well, but she had never told her what to do if a man set her heart to throbbing like the hooves of a runaway horse. ~ Constance O'Banyon
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Constance O'Banyon
Reality was that no matter how well he filled out those creased jeans, he truly was forbidden fruit. ~ Carolyn Brown
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Carolyn Brown
Why hasn't Annika sent a retrieval party?"
"Now, don't feel slighted - I'm sure she will soon - but right now she's focused on finding Myst. She figured if Ivo is looking for a Valkyrie, it'd have to be Myst. Remember, she was in his dungeon only five years ago? And had that incident with the rebel general?"
Like Emma would ever forget. Myst herself had confided to Emma that she might as well have been caught freebasing with the ghost of Bundy.
"See," Nix said, "other Valkyrie like the forbidden fruit as much as you do. ~ Kresley Cole
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Kresley Cole
Man, I want to be someone's forbidden fruit."
"Well, you are pretty fruity. ~ Darynda Jones
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Darynda Jones
What is the connection between you and our handsome host? Aunt B asked.
Blackberries taste much worse when they try to come back up your throat. "Uhhh ... "
"Uhhh is not an answer," Keira informed me.
Andre must not have told her about Hugh, and I had no desire to explain who my dad was. "We never met but we were trained by the same person. Now he works for a very powerful man who will kill me if he finds me."
"Why?" Keira asked.
"It's a family thing."
"That explains the attraction," Aunt B said.
"Attraction?"
"You're that thing he can't have. It's called forbidden fruit."
"I'm not his fruit!"
"He thinks you are. The word you're looking for is "smitten," my dear." Aunt B smiled. "I'm sure the way Megobari looked at you made Curran positively giddy. ~ Ilona Andrews
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ilona Andrews
People are so like their first mother Eve: what they are given doesn't take their fancy. The serpent is forever enticing them to come to him, to the tree of mystery. They must have the forbidden fruit, or paradise will not be paradise for them. ~ Alexander Pushkin
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Alexander Pushkin
We are Adam and Eve born out of chaos called creation Ribbing me gave you life yet you forget there will always be a part of me in you yes I taunted and tempted you with my forbidden fruit does that make me the serpent too? Believe what you will but if I am exiled alone I know we will be together again someday naked without shame in paradise My thanks to you for being in on my sin ~ Megan McCafferty
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Megan McCafferty
Anyone who could build a universe in six days isn't going to let a little thing like that happen. Unless they want it to, of course." "Oh, come on. Be sensible," said Aziraphale, doubtfully. "That's not good advice," said Crowley. "That's not good advice at all. If you sit down and think about it sensibly, you come up with some very funny ideas. Like: why make people inquisitive, and then put some forbidden fruit where they can see it with a big neon finger flashing on and off saying 'THIS IS IT!'? ~ Terry Pratchett
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Terry Pratchett
Adam was but human - this explains it all. He did not want the apple for the apple's sake, he wanted it only because it was forbidden. The mistake was in not forbidding the serpent; then he would have eaten the serpent. ~ Mark Twain
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Mark Twain
Andre had been telling her an ancient legend of the fall of man into evil. It came about, he said, by the hand of a woman, Eve, who gave man forbidden fruit.
"And how was this woman to know that the fruit was forbidden?" Madame Wu had inquired.
"An evil spirit, in the shape of a serpent, whispered it to her," Andre had said.
"Why to her instead of to the man?" she had inquired.
"Because he knew that her mind and her heart were fixed not upon the man, but upon the pursuance of life," he had replied. "The man's mind and heart were fixed upon himself. He was happy enough, dreaming that he possessed the woman and the garden. Why should he be tempted further? He had all. But the woman could always be tempted by the thought of a better garden, a larger space, more to possess, because she knew that out of her body would come many more beings, and for them she plotted and planned. The woman thought not of herself, but of the many whom she would create. For their sake she was tempted. For their sake she will always be tempted. ~ Pearl S. Buck
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Pearl S. Buck
Forbidden pleasures alone are loved immoderately; when lawful, they do not excite desire. ~ Quintilian
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Quintilian
The forbidden cabinet. The forbidden fruit. That fruit is - a volume, a huge blue-lilac volume with a gold inscription slantwise: Collected Works of A.S. Pushkin. I read the fat Pushkin in the cabinet with my nose in the book and on the shelf, almost in darkness and almost right up against it and even a little bit suffocated by his weight that came right into the throat, and almost blinded by the nearness of the tiny letters. I read Pushkin right into the chest and right into the brain. ~ Marina Tsvetaeva
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Marina Tsvetaeva
She was pretty all right, but he'd had prettier. She was proud and brave, too, but she was also outrageous and outspoken. And, yes, she had the body of a goddess, but she dressed it like a man. She entranced him, she irritated the hell out of him. She was forbidden fruit! ~ Charlotte McPherren
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Charlotte McPherren
So where does the name Adam's apple come from? Most people say that it is from the notion that this bump was caused by the forbidden fruit getting stuck in the throat of Adam in the Garden of Eden. There is a problem with this theory because some Hebrew scholars believe that the forbidden fruit was the pomegranate. The Koran claims that the forbidden fruit was a banana. So take your pick
Adam's apple, Adam's pomegranate, Adam's banana. Eve clearly chewed before swallowing. ~ Mark Leyner
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Mark Leyner
I'm just like you. I enjoy the forbidden fruits in life, too. ~ Mike Tyson
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Mike Tyson
Forbidden fruit is always very intriguing ... though never as tasty as one imagined it would be. ~ Claudy Conn
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Claudy Conn
An inappropriate attraction to your friend's fiancé was grounds for disbarment from the Woman Club. Neither did it make a lick of sense. He was uncouth, uneducated, uncivilized. All of their conversations back then had been unholy bicker fests where they charged from the opposite ends of the spectrum, determined not to meet in the middle but to rip pieces out of each other on the drive by. ~ Kate Meader
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Kate Meader
My parents were always pretty free with me. They were of the school of thought that if you really cramp down on someone and tell them not to do all these things, it's gonna become like forbidden fruit. ~ Kathryn Prescott
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Kathryn Prescott
Having something forbidden is exciting, don't you agree? ~ Allan Dare Pearce
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Allan Dare Pearce
Keep looking at me like that, and I'll change my mind. Forbidden fruit tastes sweetest. - Alysandir Mackinnon ~ Elaine Coffman
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Elaine Coffman
He couldn't see why people made such a fuss about people eating their silly old fruit anyway, but life would be a lot less fun if they didn't. And there was never an apple, in Adam's opinion, that wasn't worth the trouble you got into for eating it. ~ Terry Pratchett
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Terry Pratchett
By carefully editing what I thought would harm her, I turned my childhood into something as glamorous as forbidden fruit. ~ Pat Conroy
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Pat Conroy
We are ever striving after what is forbidden, and coveting what is denied us. ~ Ovid
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ovid
We hunger in earnest for that which we cannot consume. ~ Nenia Campbell
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Nenia Campbell
We're children of God through our blood kinship with Christ. We're also sons and daughters of Adam and Eve, with a hereditary craving for forbidden fruit salad. ~ Barbara Brown Taylor
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Barbara Brown Taylor
This was not going the way I wanted it to. I felt a desperate need to escape before I said something that would screw up my plans. Ren was the dark side, the forbidden fruit, my personal Delilah-the ultimate temptation. The question was…could I resist?
I gave his knee a friendly pat and played my trump card…"I'm leaving."
"You're what?"
"I'm going home to Oregon. Mr. Kadam thinks it will be safer for me anyway, with Lokesh out there looking to kill us and all. Besides, you need time to figure out…stuff."
"If you're leaving, then I'm going with you!"
I smiled at him wryly. "That kind of defeats the purpose of me leaving. Don't you think?"
He slicked back his hair, let out a deep breath, then took my hand and looked intently into my eyes. "Kells, when are you going to accept the fact that we belong together?"
I felt sick, like I was kicking a faithful puppy who only wanted to be loved. I looked out at the pool.
After a moment, he sat back scowling and said menacingly, "I won't let you leave."
Inside, I desperately wanted to take his hand and beg him to forgive me, to love me, but I steeled myself, dropped my hands in my lap, then implored, "Ren, please. You have to let me go. I need…I'm afraid…look, I just can't be here, near you, when you change your mind."
"It's not going to happen."
"it might. There's a good chance."
He growled angrily. "There's no chance!"
"Well, my heart can't take that risk, and I don't want ~ Colleen Houck
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Colleen Houck
Paracelsus's grand project, which arguably is still going on today,* represents one of the many ways the Judeo-Christian tradition has deployed its genius to absorb, or co-opt, the power of the pagan faith it set out to uproot. In much the same way that the new monotheism folded into its rituals the people's traditional pagan holidays and spectacles, it desperately needed to do something about their ancient devotion to magic plants. Indeed, the story of the forbidden fruit in Genesis suggests that nothing was more important. ~ Michael Pollan
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Michael Pollan
I'm forbidden fruit. Once you go to certain households, mommy doesn't want you to see that dirty man who sticks his tongue out and spits out blood and all that stuff. ~ Gene Simmons
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Gene Simmons
It's kind of interesting, because hacking is a skill that could be used for criminal purposes or legitimate purposes, and so even though in the past I was hacking for the curiosity, and the thrill, to get a bite of the forbidden fruit of knowledge, I'm now working in the security field as a public speaker. ~ Kevin Mitnick
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Kevin Mitnick
We have all a propensity to grasp at forbidden fruit. ~ Ralph Cudworth
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ralph Cudworth
What was the sense of so arranging things that anything really important should finally and absolutely depend on such a man of straw as himself? And at that moment, far away on Earth, as he now could not help remembering, men were at war, and whitefaced subalterns and freckled corporals who had but lately begun to shave, stood in horrible gaps or crawled forward in deadly darkness, awaking, like him, to the preposterous truth that all really depended on their actions, and far away in time Horatius stood on the bridge, and Constantine settled in his mind whether he would or would not embrace the new religion, and Eve herself stood looking upon the forbidden fruit and the Heaven of Heavens waited for her decision. ~ C.S. Lewis
Forbidden Fruit quotes by C.S. Lewis
The One Forbidden Thing. Remember Bluebeard, who says to his wife, "Don't open that closet"? And then one always disobeys. In the Old Testament story God points out the one forbidden thing. Now, God must have known very well that man was going to eat the forbidden fruit. But it was by doing that that man became the initiator of his own life. Life really began with that act of disobedience. ~ Joseph Campbell
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Joseph Campbell
Satan tempted them to regard this restriction as unjust and cruel. He caused them to lust after forbidden things, because he saw that the unrestrained indulgence of appetite would tend to produce sensuality, and by this means the people could be more easily brought under his control. The author of disease and misery will assail men where he can have the greatest success. Through temptations addressed to the appetite he has, to a large extent, led men into sin from the time when he induced Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit. It was by this same means that he led Israel to murmur against God. Intemperance in eating and drinking, leading as it does to the indulgence of the lower passions, prepares the way for men to disregard all moral obligations. When assailed by temptation, they have little power of resistance. ~ Ellen G. White
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ellen G. White
You got to set your mind right and the rest will come to you naturally. No restrictions, no hang-ups, no stupid rules, no formalities, no forbidden fruit - just everyone getting and giving as much as he and she can. ~ Ray Charles
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ray Charles
He had, they said, tasted in succession all the apples of the tree of knowledge, and, whether from hunger or disgust, had ended by tasting the forbidden fruit. ~ Victor Hugo
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Victor Hugo
Delight is délice, délit is a misdemeanour'
'Well, it's bloody close...'
'Well, they often are.... ~ Alan Hollinghurst
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Alan Hollinghurst
Adam and Eve had no way of testing what God told them about the forbidden fruit. They couldn't work any experiment that would show them whether God had rightly predicted the effects of the fruit. They simply had to take God at his word. Satan interposed a contrary interpretation, but the first couple should not have taken his opinion seriously. They should simply have believed God. They did not, of course. They sided with Satan rather than God - or, perhaps better, they claimed that their own authority transcended God's. That is to say, they claimed autonomy. They claimed that they themselves were the highest authority, the ultimate criterion of truth and right. ~ Anonymous
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Anonymous
Forbidden fruit tastes sweet, but its aftertaste is bitter. ~ John F. Kennedy
Forbidden Fruit quotes by John F. Kennedy
Tasting what could have been - what should have been - didn't make it easier. ~ Kele Moon
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Kele Moon
I am not sure that the best way to make a boy love the English poets might not be forbid him to read them and then make sure that he had plenty of opportunities to disobey you. ~ C.S. Lewis
Forbidden Fruit quotes by C.S. Lewis
When the Forbidden Fruit was handed to Adam and Eve, they were allowed the moral choice to accept or decline. I know people who have refused to feast on the money tree. They live simply, within their means, and seem far more content than those who are trying to horde their wealth while clinging to the ladder of 'success,' terrified to let go. That isn't real living. The Puritans rightly saw that as covetousness. ~ Cal Thomas
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Cal Thomas
The worst mistake you can make is to force yourself to shop. The most important part of shopping is your frame of mind. How can you make a proper choice if you feel like the mistreated heroine of a soap opera?

A frivolous hat or other bit of forbidden fruit are ideal for beating the blues, but stay out of the dress and coat departments until you feel enthusiastic. If your body isn't attuned to fashion, you won't look right in anything. And if you're depressed because you've gained a few pounds, don't buy something too small to grow down to. Lose the few pounds first then go shopping. Remember, diets always start tomorrow. ~ Anne Fogarty
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Anne Fogarty
Happiness can be defined, in part at least, as the fruit of the desire and ability to sacrifice what we want now for what we want eventually. ~ Stephen Covey
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Stephen Covey
Habit, routine, and too much consistency numb our minds and pave the road for us to sleepwalk through our lives. Nothing stays the same. Everything passes, and everything changes. However, do not move too much. As an apple tree cannot bear fruit if it is too often transplanted, neither will a knight who is always building a new castle. ~ Ethan Hawke
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ethan Hawke
It is our responsibility as scientists, knowing the great progress which comes from a satisfactory philosophy of ignorance, the great progress which is the fruit of freedom of thought, to proclaim the value of this freedom; to teach how doubt is not to be feared but welcomed and discussed; and to demand this freedom as our duty to all coming generations. ~ Richard P. Feynman
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Richard P. Feynman
Berries are the healthiest fruit, offering potential protection against cancer and heart disease, boosting the immune system and acting as a guard for the liver and brain. ~ Michael Greger
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Michael Greger
In plucking the fruit of memory one runs the risk of spoiling its bloom, especially if it has got to be carried into the market. ~ Joseph Conrad
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Joseph Conrad
When the zebra-striped lizards return, bulbous eyes twisting in every direction, they carry a platter garnished with dried fruit and something that resembles a duck. It's plucked and roasted but still has its head intact. A warm, herbal scent tickles my nose. At least it's cooked.
"May I introduce you all to the main course?" Morpheus spreads out an arm with dramatic flair. "Dinner, meet your worthy adversaries, the hungry guests."
My tongue dries to sandpaper as the bird's eyes pop open, and it hobbles to stand on webbed feet, flesh brown and glistening with glaze and oil. There's a bell hung around its neck, and it jingles as the duck bows to greet everyone.
This cannot be happening.
Morpheus drags the heavy mallet from beside his chair and pounds it on the table like a judge's gavel. "Now that we're all acquainted, let the walloping begin."
Gossamer launches from Morpheus's shoulder and leaves the room with the other sprites as mass confusion erupts. All the guests leap to their feet, mallets in hand, to chase the jingling duck. ~ A.G. Howard
Forbidden Fruit quotes by A.G. Howard
I am like a tree in a forest. Birds come to the tree, they sit on its branches and eat its fruits. To the birds, the fruit may be sweet or sour or whatever. The birds say sweet or they say sour, but from the tree's point of view, this is just the chattering of birds. ~ Ajahn Chah
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ajahn Chah
Now, what is forbidden to the summoner, or any wizard, is to call a living spirit. We can call to them, yes. We can send to them a voice or a presentment, a seeming, of ourself. But we do not summon them, in spirit or in flesh, to come to us. Only the dead may we summon. Only the shadows. You can see why this must be. To summon a living man is to have entire power over him, body and mind. No one, no matter how strong or wise or great, can rightly own and use another. ~ Ursula K. Le Guin
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ursula K. Le Guin
The fruit of love is worked in us through the Spirit 'by hearing with faith.' The Spirit will not bear his fruit in us apart from our faith. Why is this?..The answer seems to be that the Holy Spirit loves to glorify the all-satisfying dependability of Christ and his Word. If the Holy Spirt simply caused acts of love in the human heart without any clear, ongoing causal connection with faith in Christ's promises, then it would not be plain that Christ is honored through love. ~ John Piper
Forbidden Fruit quotes by John Piper
As far as teachers are concerned, they define young geniuses as those who are bad, disrespectful, smoke at fourteen, fall in love at fifteen, can be found at sixteen hanging out in bars, read forbidden books, write scandalous essays, occasionally stare down a teacher in class, are marked in the attendance book as rebels, and are budding candidates for room-arrest. ~ Hermann Hesse
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Hermann Hesse
Boys [should be] inured from childhood to trifling risks and slight dangers of every possible description, such as tumbling into ponds and off of trees, etc., in order to strengthen their nervous system ... They ought to practice leaping off heights into deep water. They ought never to hesitate to cross a stream over a narrow unsafe plank for fear of a ducking. They ought never to decline to climb up a tree, to pull fruit merely because there is a possibility of their falling off and breaking their necks. I firmly believe that boys were intended to encounter all kinds of risks, in order to prepare them to meet and grapple with risks and dangers incident to man's career with cool, cautious self-possession ... ~ R.M. Ballantyne
Forbidden Fruit quotes by R.M. Ballantyne
And the heart of it is this. Real conversions are marked by the fruit of the Spirit, not the gifts of the Spirit. Regeneration has a tell, and that tell is love. As John Owen noted, the gifts of the Spirit are not the saving grace of the Spirit.11 And the love we are talking about is not a momentary thing. Love is not a walk around the block, but rather a long-haul trucking trip. ~ Douglas Wilson
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Douglas Wilson
The strawberry grows underneath the nettle And wholesome berries thrive and ripen best Neighbour'd by fruit of baser quality. ~ William Shakespeare
Forbidden Fruit quotes by William Shakespeare
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. (James 3:17) ~ Lysa TerKeurst
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Lysa TerKeurst
Ryder's in jeans and his shirt from last night, and he's staring at the fridge. When I pad closer, I see he's not just staring at the door. I've hung my various ultrasound pictures to the silvery surface, and he's studying them. His index finger is poised over my recent twenty-week one, and he's tracing the outline of the baby's legs.

"Hi," I say, clearing my throat.

He straightens and then smiles. It's a sheepish look, as if he's been caught. "Just checking out Papaya."

I love that the name Papaya has stuck. That must be a sign he feels the same. I gesture to the thirteen-week picture, when I first heard the heartbeat. "I think Papaya was a fig in that one. Funny thing - when I was so sick, Papaya was only a kidney bean."

"Kidney beans are known to be troublemakers." He steps closer, drops a strangely chaste kiss to my forehead, and sets his hands on my belly. "And I think Papaya is almost a mango now, right?"

I nod. "How did you know?"

"I might have googled pregnancy-to-fruit comparisons. Papaya will be an eggplant in a little while."

I blink. Holy shit. He really knows his pregnancy fruits. Better than I do. ~ Lauren Blakely
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Lauren Blakely
Nothing with this woman was meant to be rushed. She was like a fine wine that only improved with age and time. Time she hadn't been given growing up, but I'd waited close to a year.
I could wait some more. ~ Rachel Blaufeld
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Rachel Blaufeld
And what good has all your reading done you? Out of all the things you have read, how much has really stayed in your soul, what roots have grown there that will, in a good time, bring forth fruit? Examine your heart carefully. If you compare the whole of what you know with what you don't know, you will find that your knowledge is like a small stream dried up in the summer heat compared to the ocean of your ignorance. And even granted that you do know a lot, what difference does it make? ~ Francesco Petrarca
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Francesco Petrarca
The craving for a delicate fruit is pleasanter than the fruit itself. ~ Johann Gottfried Herder
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Johann Gottfried Herder
The Greek philosophers have compiled many works with persuasiveness and much skill in words; but what fruit have they to show for this such as has the cross of Christ? Their wise thoughts were persuasive enough until they died; ~ Athanasius Of Alexandria
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Athanasius Of Alexandria
The truth is, of course, that the curtness of the Ten Commandments is an evidence, not of the gloom and narrowness of a religion, but, on the contrary, of its liberality and humanity. It is shorter to state the things forbidden than the things permitted; precisely because most things are permitted, and only a few things are forbidden. ~ G.K. Chesterton
Forbidden Fruit quotes by G.K. Chesterton
Formerly, the nobility and the clergy contributed towards the expenses of the State only by voluntary aid and gratuitous gift; their property could not be seized even for debt, - while the plebeian, overwhelmed by taxes and statute-labor, was continually tormented, now by the king's tax-gatherers, now by those of the nobles and clergy. He whose possessions were subject to mortmain could neither bequeath nor inherit property; he was treated like the animals, whose services and offspring belong to their master by right of accession. The people wanted the conditions of ownership to be alike for all; they thought that every one should enjoy and freely dispose of his possessions his income and the fruit of his labor and industry. The people did not invent property; but as they had not the same privileges in regard to it, which the nobles and clergy possessed, they decreed that the right should be exercised by all under the same conditions. The more obnoxious forms of property - statute-labor, mortmain, maîtrise, and exclusion from public office - have disappeared; the conditions of its enjoyment have been modified: the principle still remains the same. There has been progress in the regulation of the right; there has been no revolution. ~ Pierre-Joseph Proudhon
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon
walk to win others to follow Him fully. It is only in such fruit-bearing that our own abiding can be ~ Andrew Murray
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Andrew Murray
There is far too much common nonsense, and not nearly enough uncommon sense about fruit. ~ Mango Wodzak
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Mango Wodzak
We have shown that social enjoyment and amusements are not incompatible with correct conduct and true religion. Instead of forbidding the theatre and placing it under ban, it has been the aim of the Latter-day Saints to control it and keep it free from impure influences, and to preserve it as a place where all could meet for the purpose of healthful enjoyment. Our leading men have, therefore, gone to these places with the view, by their presence, of restraining all practices and influences that would be injurious to the young and rising generation. Too great care cannot be exercised that liberty shall not degenerate into license, and not to convert that which should furnish enjoyment and simple pleasure into a means of producing unhealthful excitement or corrupting morals.

Our social parties should be conducted in a manner to give gratification to all who attend them, however delicate and refined they may be in their feelings. Rude and boisterous conduct and everything of an improper character should be forbidden at such assemblages. . . . Committee-men and officers in charge of parties should see that dances of every kind are conducted in a modest and becoming manner, and that no behavior be permitted that would lead to evil or that would offend the most delicate susceptibilities. ~ John Taylor
Forbidden Fruit quotes by John Taylor
And on either side of the river was there a tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month; And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Yes, ~ Ray Bradbury
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Ray Bradbury
Your children make it impossible to regret your past. They're its finest fruits. Sometimes the only ones. ~ Anna Quindlen
Forbidden Fruit quotes by Anna Quindlen
Your initiatives should be purposeful. Never climb a tree with the purpose of plucking a fruit, only to come down with a leaf. ~ Israelmore Ayivor
