For you are the makers of the flag and it is well that you glory in the making. ~ Franklin Knight Lane
Flag Day quotes by Franklin Knight Lane
Our flag is not just one of many political points of view. Rather, the flag is a symbol of our national unity. ~ Adrian Cronauer
Flag Day quotes by Adrian Cronauer
Today at school I wrote an essay about Flag Day which was so beautiful, but ever so beautiful - for I even used words without really knowing what they meant. ~ Clarice Lispector
Flag Day quotes by Clarice Lispector
On no further occasion present a flag or medal to an Indian. ~ Zebulon Pike
Flag Day quotes by Zebulon Pike
If to please the people,we offer what we ourselves disapprove, how can we afterwards defend our work? Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair. The rest is in the hands of God. ~ George Washington
Flag Day quotes by George Washington
We do not consecrate the flag by punishing its desecration, for in doing so, we dilute the freedom this cherished emblem represents. ~ William J. Brennan Jr.
Flag Day quotes by William J. Brennan Jr.
Off with your hat, as the flag goes by! And let the heart have its say; you're man enough for a tear in your eye that you will not wipe away. ~ Henry Cuyler Bunner
Flag Day quotes by Henry Cuyler Bunner
My stars and my stripes are your dream and your labors. ~ Franklin Knight Lane
Flag Day quotes by Franklin Knight Lane
I am not the flag: not at all. I am but its shadow. ~ Franklin Knight Lane
Flag Day quotes by Franklin Knight Lane
As long as I live, I will never forget that day 21 years ago when I raised my hand and took the oath of citizenship. Do you know how proud I was? I was so proud that I walked around with an American flag around my shoulders all day long. ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger
Flag Day quotes by Arnold Schwarzenegger
Dear Josh,
Thank you for giving me the most amazing memories. My life growing up was so full because you were in it. Having your love and loving you was always
just right. It made sense. You were my home. When I was with you I knew everything would be okay.
You dried my tears for me when I was sad. You held my hand when we buried my mother. You made me laugh when the world seemed like it was
falling apart. You were every special memory a girl could have. That first kiss will forever be embedded in my brain. It was as funny as it was sweet.
Our life together molded me into the woman I've become. I understand what it feels like to be loved and cherished because I had that with you. I
never doubted my worth because you taught me I was worthy.
When you said that one day I would heal I didn't believe that was possible. Life couldn't go one without my best friend. There was no room for
another guy in my heart. It turns out you were right. You always were. I found him. He is incredible. He is nothing at all like I would have planned. He
doesn't fit into a perfect package. He managed to wiggle into my heart and take over before I knew what was happening. I found that happiness you told me
would come along. I'm going to go live that life. I'm sure it will be a wilder ride than I ever imagined and I can't wait to live it. He's my home now. I'll
always love you. I'll never forget you. But this is my goodbye. I wasn't ready before to ~ Abbi Glines
Flag Day quotes by Abbi Glines
I've learned what I can control is whether I am going to live a day in fear and depression and panic, or whether I am going to attack the day and make it as good a day, as wonderful a day, as I can. ~ Gilda Radner
Flag Day quotes by Gilda Radner
It wasn't always like this. There was a time when I imagined my life could happen in another way. It's true that early on I became used to the long hours I spent alone. I discovered that I did not need people as others did. After writing all day it took an effort to make conversation, like wading through cement, and often I simply chose not to make it, eating at a restaurant with a book or going for long walks alone instead, unwinding the solitude of the day through the city. But loneliness, true loneliness, is impossible to accustom oneself to, and while I was still young I thought of my situation as somehow temporary, and did not stop hoping and imagining that I would meet someone and fall in love ... Yes, there was a time before I closed myself off to others. ~ Nicole Krauss
Flag Day quotes by Nicole Krauss
Wanna fuck you and smack the living shit out of you all at the same time. Don't know what this is, but it makes me want to keep you filled with my cock all day long and dripping with my cum. I want to mark you. I want to fucking own you. ~ T.M. Frazier
Flag Day quotes by T.M. Frazier
The most important thing I would learn in school was that almost everything I would learn in school would be utterly useless. When I was fifteen I knew the principal industries of the Ruhr Valley, the underlying causes of World War One and what Peig Sayers had for her dinner every day ... What I wanted to know when I was fifteen was the best way to chat up girls. That is what I still want to know. ~ Joseph O'Connor
Flag Day quotes by Joseph O'Connor
Saint Bartleby's School for Young Gentlemen
Annual Report
Student: Artemis Fowl II
Year: First
Fees: Paid
Tutor: Dr Po

Language Arts
As far as I can tell, Artemis has made absolutely no progress since the beginning of the year. This is because his abilities are beyond the scope of my experience. He memorizes and understands Shakespeare after a single reading. He finds mistakes in every exercise I administer, and has taken to chuckling gently when I attempt to explain some of the more complex texts. Next year I intend to grant his request and give him a library pass during my class.

Mathematics
Artemis is an infuriating boy. One day he answers all my questions correctly, and the next every answer is wrong. He calls this an example of the chaos theory, and says that he is only trying to prepare me for the real world. He says the notion of infinity is ridiculous. Frankly, I am not trained to deal with a boy like Artemis. Most of my pupils have trouble counting without the aid of their fingers. I am sorry to say, there is nothing I can teach Artemis about mathematics, but someone should teach him some manners.

Social Studies
Artemis distrusts all history texts, because he says history was written by the victors. He prefers living history, where survivors of certain events can actually be interviewed. Obviously this makes studying the Middle Ages somewhat difficult. Artemis has asked for permission to build a ~ Eoin Colfer
Flag Day quotes by Eoin Colfer
The world is filled with folly and sin, And Love must cling, where it can, I say: For Beauty is easy enough to win; But one isn't loved every day ~ Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl Of Lytton
Flag Day quotes by Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl Of Lytton
My friends are gone and my hair is grey.
I ache in places I used to play.
And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on.
I'm just paying my rent every day in the tower of song. ~ Leonard Cohen
Flag Day quotes by Leonard Cohen
Abiding. No one single instant of it was unendurable. Here was the second right here: he endured it. What was undealable-with was the thought of all the instants all lined up and stretching ahead, glittering. [ ... ] It's too much to think about. To Abide there. But none of it's as of now real. [ ... ] He could just hunker down in the space between each heartbeat and make each heartbeat a wall and live in there. Not let his head look over. What's unendurable is what his own head could make of it all. What his head could report to him, looking over and ahead and reporting. But he could choose not to listen; he could treat his head like G. Day or R. Lenz: clueless noise. ~ David Foster Wallace
Flag Day quotes by David Foster Wallace
The stories that I want to tell, especially as a director, don't necessarily have a perfect ending because, the older you get, the more you appreciate a good day versus a happy ending. You understand that life continues on the next day; the reality of things is what happens tomorrow. ~ Drew Barrymore
Flag Day quotes by Drew Barrymore
I dreamed what all losers dream, about one day writing a book that would bring me fame and fortune. ~ Umberto Eco
Flag Day quotes by Umberto Eco
If I go home from a day of shooting, and I haven't at some point felt the magic, I'm really frustrated. ~ Susanne Bier
Flag Day quotes by Susanne Bier
How can one day you have next to nothing and then a week and a day later you have everything? ~ Kristen Ashley
Flag Day quotes by Kristen Ashley
In a battle, as in a siege, the art consists in concentrating very heavy fire on a particular point. The line of battle once established, the one who has the ability to concentrate an
unlooked for mass of artillery suddenly and unexpectedly on one of these points is sure to carry the day. ~ Napoleon Bonaparte
Flag Day quotes by Napoleon Bonaparte
Every day in about half the advertisements, a man sees the constant reminder of the woman he was not worthy of. ~ Warren Farrell
Flag Day quotes by Warren Farrell
Words of Wisdom Approach each day with positive thoughts. Believe in the goodness of others. Create a better world by being a friend. Decorate your life with beautiful things. Educate yourself through the teaching of others. ~ Scott Schwab
Flag Day quotes by Scott Schwab
Death is hereditary. Make sure you enjoy each day before it catches you. ~ Jill Shalvis
Flag Day quotes by Jill Shalvis
We're all dreaming, Arctor said. If the last to know he's an addict is the addict, then maybe the last to know when a man means what he says is the man himself, he reflected. He wondered how much of the garbage that Donna had overheard he had seriously meant. He wondered how much of the insanity of the day
his insanity
had been real, or just induced as a contact lunacy, by the situation. Donna, always, was a pivot point of reality for him; for her this was the basic, natural question. He wished he could answer. ~ Philip K. Dick
Flag Day quotes by Philip K. Dick
At the end of the day, I sit down for about five minutes and review all the problems I'm working on, research problems or writing problems, and I go to sleep. Then when I wake up in the morning, I've trained myself to not open my eyes and to just lie there and recall the problems and see if there's anything there. ~ Gregory Benford
Flag Day quotes by Gregory Benford
Life, raw life, the kind we lead every day, whether it leads us into the past or the future, has the curious property of not seeming real enough. We have a need, however illusive, for a life that is more real than life. It lies in the imagination. Fiction would seem to be the way it is processed into reality. If this were not so we should have little excuse for art. Life, raw life, would be more than satisfactory in itself. But it seems to be the nature of man to transform - himself, if possible, and then the world around him - and the technique of this transformation is what we call art. ~ Wright Morris
Flag Day quotes by Wright Morris
Women, it is said, possess corresponding power. Through consciousness-raising, women found that women's so-called power was the other side of female powerlessness. A women's supposed power to deny sex is the underside of her actual lack of power to stop it. Women's supposed power to get men to do things for them by nagging or manipulating is the other side of the power they lack to have their every need anticipated, to carry out the task themselves, or to invoke physical fear to gain compliance with their desires without even having to mention it. Once the veil is lifted, once relations between the sexes are seen as power relations, it becomes impossible to see as simply unintented, well-intentioned, or innocent the actions through which women are told every day what is expected and when they have crossed some line. ~ Catharine A. MacKinnon
Flag Day quotes by Catharine A. MacKinnon
For a woman, every outfit is a hopeful spell, cast to influence the outcome of the day. An act of trying to predict your fate, like looking at your horoscope. ~ Caitlin Moran
Flag Day quotes by Caitlin Moran
As we were about to cross the road, Davin suddenly grabbed my wrist and held me back a moment; a car peeled out of the driveway and roared past us. "Geez," I gasped, and then, glancing at him curiously, I added, "Thanks." He didn't say anything, but slowly released my wrist. Before he completely withdrew, I took his hand and interlaced my fingers through his. He looked at me, his lips parted in surprise, but then he smiled shyly and gave my hand a squeeze as we kept walking. It gave me a feeling of nervous flutters in the best way. As we walked up to the doors, Jill and Laurel came bursting out the exit. ~ J.M. Richards
Flag Day quotes by J.M. Richards
So that I may meet the day with the knowledge to build the day I will look into my soul while it still dawn, before the morning breaketh ... ~ Walter Russell
Flag Day quotes by Walter Russell
St. Fidgeta is the patroness of nervous and unmanageable children. Her shrine is the church of Santa Fidgeta in Tormento, near Fobbio in southern Italy. There one may see the miraculous statues of St. Fidgeta, attributed to the Catholic Casting Company of Chicago, Illinois. The statue has been seen to squirm noticeably on her feast day, and so on that day restless children from all over Europe have been dragged to the shrine by equally nervous, worn-out, and half-mad parents. ~ John Bellairs
Flag Day quotes by John Bellairs
Brainstorming, for me, takes place in my bed at night between the time I turn out my lights and I finally fall asleep. It is not a very violent storm, but what's happening is I am just thinking about different ideas and maybe things I've seen that day that I think might make a good story. ~ Chris Van Allsburg
Flag Day quotes by Chris Van Allsburg
At least through most of the 1960s, I basically lived in a man's world, hardly speaking to a woman all day except to the secretaries. But I was almost totally unaware of myself as an oddity and had no comprehension of the difficulties faced by working women in our organization and elsewhere. ~ Katharine Graham
Flag Day quotes by Katharine Graham
Either the memory of past bliss is the anguish of to-day; or the agonies which are have their origins in ecstasies which might have been. ~ Edgar Allan Poe
Flag Day quotes by Edgar Allan Poe
I landed on my side, my hip taking the brunt of the fall. It burned and stung from the hit, but I ignored it and struggled to sit up quickly. There really was no point in hurrying so no one would see.
Everyone already saw
A pair of jean-clad legs appeared before me, and my suitcase and all my other stuff was dropped nearby.
"Whatcha doing down there?" Romeo drawled, his hands on his hips as he stared down at me with dancing blue eyes.
"Making a snow angel," I quipped. I glanced down at my hands, which were covered with wet snow and bits of salt (to keep the pavement from getting icy).
Clearly, ice wasn't required for me to fall.
A small group of girls just "happened by", and by that I mean they'd been staring at Romeo with puppy dog eyes and giving me the stink eye. When I fell, they took it as an opportunity to descend like buzzards stalking the dead. Their leader was the girl who approached me the very first day I'd worn Romeo's hoodie around campus and told me he'd get bored. As they stalked closer, looking like clones from the movie Mean Girls, I caught the calculating look in her eyes. This wasn't going to be good.
I pushed up off the ground so I wouldn't feel so vulnerable, but the new snow was slick and my hand slid right out from under me and I fell back again. Romeo was there immediately, the teasing light in his eyes gone as he slid his hand around my back and started to pull me up. "Careful, babe." he said gently.
The girls ~ Cambria Hebert
Flag Day quotes by Cambria Hebert
Everything is amazing right now and nobody's happy. Like, in my lifetime the changes in the world have been incredible… Flying is the worst because people come back from flights and they tell you…a horror story…They're like: "It was the worst day of my life. First of all, we didn't board for twenty minutes, and then we get on the plane and they made us sit there on the runway…" Oh really, what happened next? Did you fly through the air incredibly, like a bird? Did you partake in the miracle of human flight you non-contributing zero?! You're flying! It's amazing! Everybody on every plane should just constantly be going: "Oh my God! Wow!" You're flying! You're sitting in a chair, in the sky! ~ Louis Ck
Flag Day quotes by Louis Ck
He who remembers from day to day what he has yet to learn, and from month to month what he has learned already, may be said to have a love of learning. ~ Confucius
Flag Day quotes by Confucius
The heat of the day had long since retreated into the desert, and the city, which had drowsed through the hot afternoon, was finally coming alive. The streets filled with people drinking tea and gossiping, laughing, and visiting friends. Old men played chatrang on boards set up outside cafes; children stayed up long past their bedtimes playing their own games on the sidewalks. Men and women bought rose-flavored ices and trinkets from nighttime vendors. ~ Liz Braswell
Flag Day quotes by Liz Braswell
Speaking of Satan, I was watching Rush Limbaugh the other day. ~ Bill Hicks
Flag Day quotes by Bill Hicks
I got good notice from that show, and on the last day of filming Townies, Twentieth Century Fox called wanting to meet with me about a development deal. ~ Jenna Elfman
Flag Day quotes by Jenna Elfman
Maybe one day we'll get married and we'll have a small house just for us, we'll write crazy books and we'll be famous. ~ Cristina Nemerovschi
Flag Day quotes by Cristina Nemerovschi
The truth is all around you, plain to behold. The night is dark and full of terrors, the day bright and beautiful and full of hope. One is black, the other white. There is ice and there is fire. Hate and love. Bitter and sweet. Male and female. Pain and pleasure. Winter and summer. Evil and good. Death and life. Everywhere, opposites. ~ George R R Martin
Flag Day quotes by George R R Martin
Every morning I stand here and watch the sun gild the trees and the grottoes. It's like drawing a breath before the day begins in earnest. ~ Dominic Smith
Flag Day quotes by Dominic Smith
After all, the purpose of The Prayer is not to stand and bow all Day long. The purpose is to possess continuously that fragrant state which appears to you in prayer. ~ Swatika Jain
Flag Day quotes by Swatika Jain
He's in a rut. Gehringer goes two for five on opening day and stays that way all season. ~ Lefty Gomez
Flag Day quotes by Lefty Gomez
Take the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. I remember as a child how I used to choke up every morning "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Now it didn't say, "I pledge allegiance to racism, to capitalism, and to neocolonialism, and J. Edgar Hoover, and Richard Nixon, .and Ronald Reagan, and Mace, and billy clubs and dead niggers on the street shot by pigs." I mean it didn't say that shit, you see. ~ Eldridge Cleaver
Flag Day quotes by Eldridge Cleaver
Since the night she was kidnapped she had been appraised and reappraised, each day waking upon the pan of a new scale. Know your value and you know your place in the order. To escape the boundary of the plantation was to escape the fundamental principles of your existence: impossible. It ~ Colson Whitehead
Flag Day quotes by Colson Whitehead
I came to understand intellectually that my mind used dissociation as a way to protect me from knowing things. Dr. Summer repeatedly explained, "If you had woken up every morning and knew that later that day or evening you would be abused, you would have killed yourself". I would always nod, as if in agreement. It all made sense in a theoretical way, but I could not and did not want to truly understand or accept what had happened to me. ~ Olga Trujillo
Flag Day quotes by Olga Trujillo
If you start out with a little telescope observing the stars and you keep at it over the years, as I have, it's kind of a dream to one day have an observatory where you can always go and use the telescope conveniently. ~ Timothy Ferriss
