Junk?" Lina repeated, incredulous. Oh, she wasn't about to let that pass. ~ Jaleigh Johnson
Female Hero quotes by Jaleigh Johnson
It was Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the television series, 1997-2003, not the lackluster movie that preceded it) that blazed the trail for Twilight and the slew of other paranormal romance novels that followed, while also shaping the broader urban fantasy field from the late 1990s onward.

Many of you reading this book will be too young to remember when Buffy debuted, so you'll have to trust us when we say that nothing quite like it had existed before. It was thrillingly new to see a young, gutsy, kick-ass female hero, for starters, and one who was no Amazonian Wonder Woman but recognizably ordinary, fussing about her nails, her shoes, and whether she'd make it to her high school prom. Buffy's story contained a heady mix of many genres (fantasy, horror, science-fiction, romance, detective fiction, high school drama), all of it leavened with tongue-in-cheek humor yet underpinned by the serious care with which the Buffy universe had been crafted. Back then, Whedon's dizzying genre hopping was a radical departure from the norm-whereas today, post-Buffy, no one blinks an eye as writers of urban fantasy leap across genre boundaries with abandon, penning tender romances featuring werewolves and demons, hard-boiled detective novels with fairies, and vampires-in-modern-life sagas that can crop up darn near anywhere: on the horror shelves, the SF shelves, the mystery shelves, the romance shelves. ~ Ellen Datlow
Female Hero quotes by Ellen Datlow
It 'appens to be true. An' if'n yew want ter stay moi friend, yew'd best 'old yer turpitudinous twaddle of a tongue an' listen fer once. ~ Peter St. John
Female Hero quotes by Peter St. John
Letti wasn't born to pass through the world. She had been born to sit atop of it. ~ S.R. Crawford
Female Hero quotes by S.R. Crawford
I closed the door and sank into my desk chair. My heart was pounding even harder. I felt like someone who had just staggered out of her car after an accident on a freeway. This was different from the cockroach and the books and the Barbie. I'd been injured. Someone had tried to physically harm me. ~ Kate White
Female Hero quotes by Kate White
You can't be the only superhero around here. I can do that too. – Hope Danielles ~ Dulce Amor Soriano
Female Hero quotes by Dulce Amor Soriano
I definitely like performing to a crowd that's there to see a female hero. ~ Natalia Kills
Female Hero quotes by Natalia Kills
Ah, so that must have been her mystery: she had discovered a trail into the forest. Surely that was where she went during her absences. Returning with her eyes filled with gentleness & ignorance, eyes made whole. An ignorance so vast that inside it all the world's wisdom could be contained & lost. ~ Clarice Lispector
Female Hero quotes by Clarice Lispector
The days became for Christina endless preparation. Ceaseless winds tore through her massing battle ranks, the grey cold sun above marking the timeless date. With skies of blue and cloud overhead, driving, uncompromising time stood still, lingering, as if giving Christina precious eons to perfect her shaving straight razor cuts of mind and sword. She worked alone now, forging the essence of herself in the policies and ways of hammer and anvil, pounding away with the classic, living Japanese blade. Her deft hands spun dervishly, wroughting out the iron of her will, fashioning a blade-mind remade unto her. --Brickley, The Lady and the Samurai ~ Douglas Laurent
Female Hero quotes by Douglas Laurent
GOD GRACE BY BIRTH FEMALE PNEUMA RHADAMANTHINE DRACONIAN HEBETIC PUBERAL THAN MEN. OBVIOUSY, MODERN ERUDITED WOMEN WILL PLY PILOT EITHER INTRAMURAL AND ALFRSCO HAP DEXTEROUSLY .NO DOUBT AT ALL. ~ Various
Female Hero quotes by Various
Strength is taking charge of your own destiny and not waiting on others to do so. You don't have to swear and drink and beat people up and slay monsters. You're allowed to cry and take care of children and cook and get your heart broken and dress up and date and get pregnant. But when decisions have to be made, a strong character makes them and doesn't wait for someone else. ~ Mur Lafferty
Female Hero quotes by Mur Lafferty
In a near-by clearing, Cricket and How-Ya-Do came upon a ridiculously comical sight.
It was an extra-large hyper-manic bird yelling at the funniest looking Crawfish that she had ever seen. The Crawfish stood over a foot tall, which just does not happen, and he was wearing a light-blue beanie and gold chains around his neck. ~ Darwun St. James
Female Hero quotes by Darwun St. James
And lo, at the moment when she needed it most, she found the force within her. She didn't find it in time to avoid having her head bitten off, but she sure did die enlightened. ~ Jeff Mach
Female Hero quotes by Jeff Mach
In that moment, she hated his quiet patient tone, hated the stench of the incense, and hated the beauteous pity painted on the faces of the women on the walls. Their expressions contained serene understanding; their eyes seemed able to peer into her soul. She found their forgiveness suffocating. And above all, she hated the tiny niggling thing in her that wanted to know more. ~ Amy J. Murphy
Female Hero quotes by Amy J. Murphy
Where's the sun? Sometimes I never see the sun. ~ Randolph Randy Camp
Female Hero quotes by Randolph Randy Camp
Yew? Not roight in the 'ead? Jus' let me tell yew somefink yew cockeyed idiot. Oi moight call yew daft sometimes, but that don't mean yew're crazy. If'n yew're not roight in the head, then Oi'm Mussolini's fairy godmother. ~ Peter St. John
Female Hero quotes by Peter St. John
I decided that if I want to write about a female hero in the 1920s, I'm going to have to give her all the advantages I can because she has serious disadvantages in being a woman. I wasn't going to have her cowed or overawed by class, so she had to be titled. ~ Kerry Greenwood
Female Hero quotes by Kerry Greenwood
Gemma," I said, adding a singsong whine to my voice, "now I can't scare her. You can't go around telling people about me. ~ Darynda Jones
Female Hero quotes by Darynda Jones
It's not that the hero is blind to the dangers of the journey; it's those dangers that raise the hero in him ~ Bangambiki Habyarimana
Female Hero quotes by Bangambiki Habyarimana
I think it would be a great challenge to work on a military game which featured a female lead character. Since female soldiers are now being allowed on the frontlines, we're actually in danger of reality overtaking games! ~ Rhianna Pratchett
Female Hero quotes by Rhianna Pratchett
Uncle Wiggens ain't really my uncle, everyone just calls him that. He's over eighty and fought in the War Between the States. He only has one leg and one hero, General Robert E. Lee. Uncle Wiggens manages to work Lee's name into pretty much any old conversation. You might say, 'My, it's cold today,' and he'd reply, 'You think this is cold? General Lee said it didn't even qualify as chill till your breath froze on your nose and made a little icicle.' He had about five different stories of how he lost his leg, every one of them entertaining.
That night I was listening to the version that involved him running five Yankees into a bear's den. ~ Kristin Levine
Female Hero quotes by Kristin Levine

Delhi Companion comes quite close to VIP escorts in Delhi. Their expert group of organizers loves to manage VIP customers to present with tolerable nature of escort administration. ~ Sangitasharma
Female Hero quotes by Sangitasharma
Women misjudged his pathology because of his prolific brain-games. He used gaslighting techniques to convince her she had a break with reality. Some survivors called it 'The Ultimate Mind Screw'--sending prominent female executives, attorneys, and doctors into mental institutions to recover from him. Coercion, psychological warfare techniques and Stockholm Syndrome symptoms have left survivors sawed off at the emotional knees by a smooth-talking and ear-to-ear grinning psychological terrorist. ~ Sandra L. Brown
Female Hero quotes by Sandra L. Brown
Science is nothing more than a method of inquiry. The method says an assertion is valid, and merits universal acceptance, only if it can be independently verified. The impersonal rigor of the method means it is utterly apolitical. A truth in science is verifiable whether you are black or white, male or female, old or young. It's verifiable whether you like the results of a study, or you don't. ~ Michael Crichton
Female Hero quotes by Michael Crichton
It is not to taste sweet things; but to do noble and true things, and vindicate himself under God's heaven as a God-made man, that the poorest son of Adam dimly longs. Show him the way of doing that, the dullest day-drudge kindles into a hero. They wrong man greatly who say he is to be seduced by ease. Difficulty, abnegation, martyrdom, death, are the allurements that act on the heart of man. Kindle the inner genial life of him, you have a flame that burns up all lower considerations. ~ Thomas Carlyle
Female Hero quotes by Thomas Carlyle
I can't imagine a romance novel published today where the hero rapes the heroine and she falls in love with him. ~ Julia Quinn
Female Hero quotes by Julia Quinn
On that day, we couldn't reach the conclusion whose hero is the strongest. And today when we are 41 years old, we can protect neither the Earth nor the women we love. We are now just the anti-heroic men, struggling with everyday life. Those boys wo wanted to become heroes ... where did they all go? Whose heroes can we become at the end? ~ Kim Do-Jin
Female Hero quotes by Kim Do-Jin
There's a sense of productivity which cripples us terribly. We either have to be doing something worthwile or not. We are back to our little binary male-female code. ~ Frederick Lenz
Female Hero quotes by Frederick Lenz
you remember the Claw, my old teammate? He was good, and then he went bad, and now he's good again, because I asked him to be. He only ever needed permission to be a hero. ~ Seanan McGuire
Female Hero quotes by Seanan McGuire
There was one female role, which was Emily. When I did the audition, I flubbed up. It was my first audition back from Christmas break, and I flubbed up and was devastated. In the audition room, they were like, "Oh, you did great!," but you never really know. So, I left the audition in tears. ~ Tinsel Korey
Female Hero quotes by Tinsel Korey
Die!
--Gleeson Hedge ~ Rick Riordan
Female Hero quotes by Rick Riordan
I don't really consider myself a female director, and I don't want to do so for other women. Female directors are just directors. ~ Alante Kavaite
Female Hero quotes by Alante Kavaite
Thoughts creep in of time earlier than that, a darker night some months before, the old barrister who thought that young female pupils were his for the taking, his for the groping. I had to struggle hard, kick him harder still before I was able to break free. I stop at the place where it happened, to the left of the stairs, wiping my hands down my skirt. Nearly two decades ago but still fresh in my mind. ~ Harriet Tyce
Female Hero quotes by Harriet Tyce
His (Swami Vivekananda) words are great music, phrases in the style of Beethoven, stirring rhythms like the march of Handel choruses. I cannot touch these sayings of his, scattered as they are through the pages of books, at thirty years' distance, without receiving a thrill through my body like an electric shock. And what shocks, what transports, must have been produced when in burning words they issued from the lips of the hero! ~ Romain Rolland
Female Hero quotes by Romain Rolland
Saint George killed the last dragon, and he was called a hero for it. I've never seen a dragon, and I wish he would have left at least one. Saint Patrick made a name for himself by running the snakes out of Ireland, leaving the place vulnerable to rodent infestation. This business of making saints out of men who exterminate their fellow creatures has got to stop. All I'm saying is, it's starting to get a little lonely up here at the top of the food chain. ~ A. Whitney Brown
Female Hero quotes by A. Whitney Brown
I sent a clear warning to you, Aidan." There was a hint of censure in his words, although his voice was soft.
There was a hard edge to Aidan's mouth. "I received your warning. But this is my city, Gregori, and my family. I take care of my own."
Savannah rolled her eyes. "You could just beat on your chests, you know. It probably works just as well."
You will show some respect, Gregori ordered.
Savannah burst out laughing, then reached up to caress his shadowed jaw. "Keep hoping,my love, and perhaps someday someone will obey you."
Aidan's mouth twitched, the golden eyes sliding over Gregori in amusement. "She inherited something besides her mother's good looks, did she not?"
Gregori sighed heavily. "She is impossible."
Aidan laughed, ignoring the warning flash from Gregori's pale eyes. "I believe they all are."
Savannah ducked out from under Gregori's arm and found an overstuffed chair to curl up on. "Of course we're impossible. It's the only way to stay sane."
"I would have brought Alexandria to meet you,but Gregori's warning dictated prudence." Aidan sounded smug, as if he had been able to lay down the law to his woman when Gregori was unable to do so.
Savannah flashed an impish grin up at the man. "What did you do,leave her sleeping while you ran off to play hero? I'll just bet she has a thing or two to say to you when you wake her."
Aidan had the grace to look sheepish. Then he turned to Gregori. "Your lifemate is a mean li ~ Christine Feehan
Female Hero quotes by Christine Feehan
I believe the most intricate plot won't matter much to readers if they don't care about the characters, especially in a series. So I try to focus hard on making each character, whether villain or hero, have an interesting flaw that readers can relate to. ~ Jeff Abbott
Female Hero quotes by Jeff Abbott
You condition a vulnerable boy at puberty to become aroused by brutality. It's the violence, not the nudity. Frankly, I wouldn't mind if every teenage boy had a subscription to Playboy. They'd be looking at attractive naked female bodies while they masturbated, not eviscerated female bodies. ~ Park Dietz
Female Hero quotes by Park Dietz
Legolas is that kind of action elf who pouts a bit, stares off to the distance, and has a couple hero moments, killing with a lethal bow and arrow along the way. ~ Orlando Bloom
Female Hero quotes by Orlando Bloom
He sounded like he was used to people swearing at him, which made no damned sense, because he was gorgeous and a hero. ~ Cate Cameron
Female Hero quotes by Cate Cameron
Married life had taught Toran the futility of arguing with a female in dark-brown mood. He shrugged, and left her. ~ Isaac Asimov
Female Hero quotes by Isaac Asimov
Buoyant leadership is not a management technique, it's a leadership principle based on the belief that leading isn't presiding, it's taking people on a journey, and on any hero's journey there will be a setback. ~ Kevin Allen
Female Hero quotes by Kevin Allen
From a purely entertainment point of view, to create a movie with a female lead that is empowered with her own sexuality I think is a really powerful thing. ~ Ashton Kutcher
Female Hero quotes by Ashton Kutcher
What passes for identity in America is a series of myths about one's heroic ancestors. It's astounding to me, for example, that so many people really seem to believe that the country was founded by a band of heroes who wanted to be free. ~ James A. Baldwin
Female Hero quotes by James A. Baldwin
The voices belonged to dragons.
Five of them lay on or sprawled over or curled around the various rocks and columns that filled the huge cave where Cimorene stood. Each of the males (there were three) had two short, stubby, sharp-looking horns on either side of their heads; the female dragon had three, one on each side and one in the center of her forehead. The last dragon was apparently still too young to have made up its mind which sex it wanted to be; it didn't have any horns at all. ~ Patricia C. Wrede
Female Hero quotes by Patricia C. Wrede
The culture-heroes of our liberal bourgeois civilisation are ant-liberal and ant-bourgeois ... ~ Susan Sontag
Female Hero quotes by Susan Sontag
If you do it right 51 percent of the time you will end up a hero. ~ Alfred P. Sloan
Female Hero quotes by Alfred P. Sloan
Whedon: Studios will tell you: A woman cannot headline an action movie. After The Hunger Games they might stop telling you that a little bit. Whatever you think of the movie, it's done a great service. And after The Avengers, I think it's changing.
Johansson: A lot of the female superhero movies just suck really badly.
Whedon: The suck factor is not small.
Johansson: They are really not well made, and already you're fighting against the tide. There are a couple [female-driven action movies] that have worked-ish, don't you think?
Hemsworth: Angelina Jolie tends to do it pretty well, as the dominant female.
Jackson: They got to get The Pro to the screen!
Whedon: [Groaning] See, that is the problem. Sam is the problem!
Jackson: I love that book!
Whedon: [Reluctantly] The Pro is hilarious.
Jackson: The Pro's hilarious. [To the group] You ever see or hear of it?
Johansson: No, what's The Pro?
Jackson: It's [a comic book] about a hooker who gets super powers!
Johansson: [Pauses] That is exactly the problem right there.
Whedon: That's why I wasn't going to bring up The Pro!

(From an Entertainment Weekly interview) ~ Joss Whedon
Female Hero quotes by Joss Whedon
Very early on, I was writing stories, and I was amazed at Spielberg's movies when I was young. Coming from the countryside, I was so impressed with the way he was able to tell stories and the way he was able to deal with le merveilleux - the wonders. Very quickly, he became for me a massive hero, and he introduced me to the world of a director. ~ Denis Villeneuve
