Do not reproach a man with his misfortunes, fearing lest Nemesis may overtake you. ~ Pittacus Of Mytilene
Fearing quotes by Pittacus Of Mytilene
What connections and experiences have I missed because I'm either remembering a former embarrassment or fearing a new one? ~ Emily P. Freeman
Fearing quotes by Emily P. Freeman
The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 1o) can he interpreted mystically in such a way that the question of the knowledge of God becomes its focus. The priest and the Levite, who walk past the man who fell among robbers and was seriously hurt, are pious God-fearing persons. They "know" God and the law of God. They have God the same way that the one who knows has that which is known. They know what God wants them to be and do. They also know where God is to he found, in the scriptures and the cult of the temple. For them, God is mediated through the existing institutions. They have their God - one who is not to he found on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho.

What is wrong with this knowledge of God? The problem is not the knowledge of the Torah or the knowledge of the temple. (It is absurd to read an anti-Judaistic meaning into a story of the Jew Jesus, since it could just as well have come from Hillel or another Jewish teacher.) What is false is a knowledge of God that does not allow for any unknowing or any negative theology. Because both actors know that God is "this," they do not see "that." Hence the Good Samaritan is the anti-fundamentalist story par excellence.

"And so I ask God to rid me of God," Meister Eckhart says. The God who is known and familiar is too small for him. ~ Dorothee Solle
Fearing quotes by Dorothee Solle
For the first time that day, I felt as if I could breathe. As if this, this was what God was leading me to. Waiting, abiding, resting. Enjoying what was rather than fearing what might be or resenting what had come before. ~ Lisa Tawn Bergren
Fearing quotes by Lisa Tawn Bergren
They lose the day in waiting for the night, and the night in fearing the dawn. ~ Seneca.
Fearing quotes by Seneca.
stop fearing of someone leaving you, start leaving your fears ~ Wasiem Helaly
Fearing quotes by Wasiem Helaly
I am death-fearing. I don't think I'm morbid. That seems to me a fear of death that goes beyond the rational. Whereas it seems to me to be entirely rational to fear death! ~ Julian Barnes
Fearing quotes by Julian Barnes
What it is coming down to is who runs the country. It's us against them. It's the good guys versus the bad guys. It's the God-fearing people against the pagans, and some of the pagans are going to church. ~ Randall Terry
Fearing quotes by Randall Terry
Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, privileges, or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking ... ~ Leo Tolstoy
Fearing quotes by Leo Tolstoy
December 25, 10:35 p.m.
Dear America,
It's nearly bedtime, and I'm trying to relax, but I can't. All I can think about is you. I'm terrified you're going to get hurt. I know someone would tell me if you weren't all right, and that has led to its own kind of paranoia. If anyone comes up to me to deliver a message, my heart stops for a moment, fearing the worst: You are gone. You're not coming back.
I wish you were here. I wish I could just see you.
You are never getting these letters. It's too humiliating.
I want you home. I keep thinking of your smile and worrying that I'll never see it again.
I hope you come back to me, America.
Merry Christmas.
Maxon ~ Kiera Cass
Fearing quotes by Kiera Cass
Do you see what little is required of a man to live a well-tempered and god-fearing life? Obey these precepts, and the gods will ask nothing more. ~ Marcus Aurelius
Fearing quotes by Marcus Aurelius
nor could she help fearing, on more serious reflection, that, like many other great moralists and preachers, she had been eloquent on a point in which her own conduct would ill bear examination. PERSUASION ~ Jane Austen
Fearing quotes by Jane Austen
When the boys come into my yard for leave to gather horse-chestnuts, I own I enter into nature's game, and affect to grant the permission reluctantly, fearing that any moment they will find out the imposture of that showy chaff. But this tenderness is quite unnecessary; the enchantments are laid on very thick. Their young life is thatched with them. Bare and grim to tears is the lot of the children in the hovel I saw yesterday; yet not the less they hang it round with frippery romance, like the children of the happiest fortune. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Fearing quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Seriously, Jack, I think you might be the only guy in this city who hasn't read his stuff. Collin McCann is like the Carrie Bradshaw of Chicago men."
"You mean Terry Bradshaw," Jack corrected.
"No, Carrie," Wilkins repeated. "You know, Sarah Jessica Parker. Sex and the City."
A silence fell over the room as Collin and Jack stared at Wilkins, seriously fearing for the fate of men. ~ Julie James
Fearing quotes by Julie James
have a dim half remembrance of long, anxious times of waiting and fearing, darkness in which there was not even the pain of hope to make present distress more poignant. ~ Bram Stoker
Fearing quotes by Bram Stoker
In order to change, you need to stop fearing the change but instead fear the results of NOT trying to change. What happens if you don't jump? What happens if you stay where you are right now? Isn't the greatest risk the risk of doing nothing?
Exist or risk. Dream or do.
Fear not changing, and you will change your life. ~ Rachel Marie Martin
Fearing quotes by Rachel Marie Martin
I have seen many successful people fail after they start fearing they might lose what they have built. ~ Guy Laliberte
Fearing quotes by Guy Laliberte
Putin was a former KGB intelligence officer who'd been stationed in East Germany at the Dresden headquarters of the Soviet secret service. Putin has said in interviews that he dreamed as a child of becoming a spy for the communist party in foreign lands, and his time in Dresden exceeded his imagination. Not only was he living out his boyhood fantasy, he and his then-wife also enjoyed the perks of a borderline-European existence. Even in communist East Germany, the standard of living was far more comfortable than life in Russia, and the young Putins were climbing KGB social circles, making influential connections, networking a power base.

The present was bright, and the future looked downright luminous.

Then, the Berlin wall fell, and down with it crashed Putin's world. A few days after the fall, a group of East German protestors gathered at the door of the secret service headquarters building. Putin, fearing the headquarters would be overrun, dialed up a Red Army tank unit stationed nearby to ask for protection. A voice on the other end of the line told him the unit could not do anything without orders from Moscow. And, "Moscow is silent," the man told Putin.

Putin's boyhood dream was dissolving before his eyes, and his country was impotent or unwilling to stop it. Putin despised his government's weakness in the face of threat. It taught him a lesson that would inform his own rule: Power is easily lost when those in power allow it to be tak ~ Matt Szajer
Fearing quotes by Matt Szajer
For art and joy go together, with bold openness, and high head, and ready hand - fearing naught and dreading no exposure. ~ James Whistler
Fearing quotes by James Whistler
A friend is a person whom you can love without judging and share your thoughts without fearing. ~ Debasish Mridha
Fearing quotes by Debasish Mridha
We don't look at the sky anymore, instead we stare at boxes that keeps us captive; we don't walk barefoot any more, we refuse to kiss the earth with our feet, we keep busy worrying and fearing, we exist and die, like robots we work and consume. We ignore the beauty of a butterfly and the power of the eagle, we have forgotten the scent of flowers, we are too busy to enjoy nature, we are plastic most of the time; we live together but we do not connect, we are asleep.
I want to cleanse myself of societies' noise, walk barefoot, and kiss the earth with my feet, I want look at the sky, and like my ancestors, I want to feel free. I want to rejoice of who I am, and what I will become. ~ Martin Suarez
Fearing quotes by Martin Suarez
Nothing else mattered today. I lived within the minutes I was in - not dwelling on the past, or fearing the future. I just let the day present itself as it would, and it couldn't have been better. ~ Rebecca Donovan
Fearing quotes by Rebecca Donovan
The teachers tried everything, even pleading, but Tomas was in the habit of addressing them only in Latin, a language he spoke with papal fluency and in which he did not stammer. Sooner or later they all resigned in despair, fearing he might be possessed: he might be spouting demonic instructions in Aramaic at them, for all they knew. ~ Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Fearing quotes by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Never over book yourself fearing to miss out on opportunities.Be honest with yourself and how you use your time. ~ Kishore Bansal
Fearing quotes by Kishore Bansal
Hoping you were the first to do something, and fearing you weren't the first, won't change the future by altering the past. If you can't be Neil Armstrong, then be Neil Armstronger. ~ Jarod Kintz
Fearing quotes by Jarod Kintz
The greatest men stand on their values and pray on their knees. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Fearing quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
Once they arrive, affirmative action kids are generally left to sink or swim academically. Brown (University) offers plenty of counseling and tutoring to struggling students, but, as any academic Dean will tell you, it's up to the students to seek it out, something that a drowning minority student will seek to avoid at all costs, fearing it will trumpet a second-class status. ~ Ron Suskind
Fearing quotes by Ron Suskind
The smaller the dinner table, the better the side conversation: you can gossip about the guests without fearing whether you will be overheard. It just isn't good table manners to exclude someone from their own ridicule. That's why the juiciest side conversations occur at a table for one. ~ Bauvard
Fearing quotes by Bauvard
When I wake up earlier than you and you
are turned to face me, face
on the pillow and hair spread around,
I take a chance and stare at you,
amazed in love and afraid
that you might open your eyes and have
the daylights scared out of you.
But maybe with the daylights gone
you'd see how much my chest and head
implode for you, their voices trapped
inside like unborn children fearing
they will never see the light of day.
The opening in the wall now dimly glows
its rainy blue and gray. I tie my shoes
and go downstairs to put the coffee on. ~ Ron Padgett
Fearing quotes by Ron Padgett
People are scared to empty their minds
fearing that they will be engulfed by the void.
What they don't realize is that
their own mind is the void. ~ Huangbo Xiyun
Fearing quotes by Huangbo Xiyun
Man spends his life in reasoning on the past, in complaining of the present, in fearing future. ~ Antoine Rivarol
Fearing quotes by Antoine Rivarol
Life should be more about living in the moment than fearing what's happening outside it. It's about honoring what you want to do at any given time, regardless of what everyone else is doing. There's no use worrying about things that are out of your control. ~ Connor Franta
Fearing quotes by Connor Franta
I wanted to scream at those with the probing stares. "Stop calling me a loser! The way I live life is my choice." But I stop short, fearing being labelled a psychopath. ~ Kavipriya Moorthy
Fearing quotes by Kavipriya Moorthy
There has never been a greater illusion than fear. Fear exists only whilst you believe
in it - whilst you fear it. So ... stop believing, stop fearing. Set up a shadow inventory,
write down all your fears and set out on your warrior path. Make this your life purpose
and gold will be smelt from your terror. ~ Geoff Thompson
Fearing quotes by Geoff Thompson
If one is okay with police having guns - whoever is designated as having authority - but panicked at the thought of their fellow man or themselves having guns, then that is someone who does not think like a free person. He places a magical aura around whoever is in charge and only thinks they can wield power. This will come up again in other areas, such as letting government make economic decisions but fearing individual people making those decisions themselves. ~ Frank J. Fleming
Fearing quotes by Frank J. Fleming
That's not something you'll ever know. All you can do is live in the moment and choose not to worry about what the future may bring. Don't waste today by fearing tomorrow, for tomorrow will come whether you're ready for it or not. ~ Lynette Noni
Fearing quotes by Lynette Noni
Those whom spring's storms torture yearn for the warmth of summer
Without even fearing the idea
That a hundred days of their lives will then have passed forever. ~ Buddha Shakyamuni
Fearing quotes by Buddha Shakyamuni
I prayed like a man walking in a forest at night, feeling his way with his hands, at each step fearing to fall into pure bottomlessness forever. Prayer is like lying awake at night, afraid, with your head under the cover, hearing only the beating of your own heart. ~ Wendell Berry
Fearing quotes by Wendell Berry
Towards dawn he awoke. O what sweet music! His soul was all dewy wet. Over his limbs in sleep pale cool waves of light had passed. He lay still, as if his soul lay amid cool waters, conscious of faint sweet music. His mind was waking slowly to a tremulous morning knowledge, a morning inspiration. A spirit filled him, pure as the purest water, sweet as dew, moving as music. But how faintly it was inbreathed, how passionlessly, as if the seraphim themselves were breathing upon him! His soul was waking slowly, fearing to awake wholly. It was that windless hour of dawn when madness wakes and strange plants open to the light and the moth flies forth silently. ~ James Joyce
Fearing quotes by James Joyce
While I can make no claim for having introduced the term "rugged individualism," I should be proud to have invented it. It has been used by American leaders for over a half-century in eulogy of those God-fearing men and women of honesty whose stamina and character and fearless assertion of rights led them to make their own way in life. ~ Herbert Hoover
Fearing quotes by Herbert Hoover
The power of a thing is not based on the power it actually possesses. Rather, it is much more about the power that we permit it to possess. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Fearing quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
Demagogues are so easy to identify. They gesture a lot and speak with pulpit rhythms, using words that ring of religious fervour and god-fearing sincerity. Sincerity with nothing behind it takes so much practice. The practice can always be detected. Repetition. Great attempts to keep your attention on words. ~ Frank Herbert
Fearing quotes by Frank Herbert
It's a constant process of hoping you won't outgrow the ones you love, while fearing they'll leave you behind as they change. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't. ~ Jeffrey Pierce
Fearing quotes by Jeffrey Pierce
Our doubts can be traitors that make us lose out on all the goodness we are capable of having in our lives, by fearing to take chances, risks, by not having faith or trust. A wish or a dream is a good place to start, but eventually we have to get up off our behinds and make "it" happen. Take some risks. Stop being afraid. Pick up a pen and write your own story. It could be magnificient! ~ Jose N Harris
Fearing quotes by Jose N Harris
An estimated two thirds of the women who got criminal abortions were married. This means that up to two thirds of the botched abortions were done on married women; up to two thirds of the dead were married women; perhaps two thirds of the survivors are married women. This means that most of the women who risked death or maiming so as not to bear a child were married - perhaps one million married women each year. They were not shameless sluts, unless all women by definition are. They were not immoral in traditional terms - though, even then, they were thought of as promiscuous and single. Nevertheless, they were not women from the streets, but women from homes; they were not daughters in the homes of fathers, but wives in the homes of husbands. They were, quite simply, the good and respectable women of Amerika. The absolute equation of abortion with sexual promiscuity is a bizarre distortion of the real history of women and abortion - too distorted to be acceptable even in the United States, where historical memory reaches back one decade. Abortion has been legalized just under one decade. The facts should not be obliterated yet. Millions of respectable, God-fearing, married women have had illegal abortions. They thank their God that they survived; and they keep quiet. ~ Andrea Dworkin
Fearing quotes by Andrea Dworkin
Childhood is this time of magic and monsters; hoping for one and fearing the other ... The worst part of being a kid is discovering which one exists ... So, I chose to believe in magic. ~ Thomm Quackenbush
Fearing quotes by Thomm Quackenbush
So I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord! ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Fearing quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
I was a God-fearing child, innocent and physically attractive. ~ Robert Schumann
Fearing quotes by Robert Schumann
A snake bites your ankle.
Recoiling, you scream.
Fearing poison, your mind slips into a dream ...
... where a man bites your ankle.
Expecting no guile,
'Again' softly falls from your lips with a smile.
Yet the man and the snake are the same.
Your perception is only to blame. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Fearing quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
I'm a God-fearing man who worships with my heart and with my life. ~ Willie Stargell
Fearing quotes by Willie Stargell
A friend, Scott Egleston, who is a professional in the mental health field, told me a therapy fable. He heard it from someone, who heard it from someone else. It goes:
Once upon a time, a woman moved to a cave in the mountains to study with a guru. She wanted, she said, to learn everything there was to know. The guru supplied her with stacks of books and left her alone so she could study. Every morning, the guru returned to the cave to monitor the woman's progress. In his hand, he carried a heavy wooden cane. Each morning, he asked her the same question: " Have you learned everything there is to know yet?" Each morning, her answer was the same. "No." she said, " I haven't." The guru would then strike her over the head with its cane.
This scenario repeated itself for months. One day the guru entered the cave, asked the same question, heard the same answer, and raised his cane to hit her in the same way, but the woman grabbed the cane from the guru, stopping his assault in midair.
Relieved to end the daily batterings but fearing reprisal, the woman looked up at the guru. To her surprise, the guru smiled. " Congragulations." he said, " you have graduated ". You know now everything you need to know."
" How's that"? the woman asked.
" You have learned that you will never learn everything there is to know," he replied. " And you have learned how to stop the pain". ~ Melody Beattie
Fearing quotes by Melody Beattie
In many interviews he had identified himself as a man outraged by death, but that was pretty much the same old big-balls crap he'd been selling throughout his career. He was terrified of death, that was the truth, and as a result of spending his life honing his imagination, he could see it coming from at least four dozen different directions... and late at night when he couldn't sleep, he was apt to see it coming from four dozen different directions at once. Refusing to see the doctor, to have a checkup and let them peek under the hood, would not cause any of those diseases to pause in their approach or their feeding upon him--if, indeed, the feeding had already begun--but if he stayed away from the doctors and their devilish machines, he wouldn't have to know. You didn't have to deal with the monster under the bed or lurking in the corner if you never actually turned on the bedroom lights, that was the thing. And what no doctor in the world seemed to know was that, for men like Johnny Marinville, fearing was sometimes better than finding. Especially when you'd put out the welcome mat for every disease going. ~ Stephen King
Fearing quotes by Stephen King
Our doubts are traitors and make us
lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt. In other words, a
wish is a good place to start but then you have to get off your butt and make it
happen. You have to pick up a quill and write your own damn story. (Mimi Wallingford) ~ Suzanne Selfors
Fearing quotes by Suzanne Selfors
In the goblin tongue, knowing from the book that Hephaestus spoke it but hoping that the dragon wouldn't know he knew, Drizzt yelled, "When the stupid dragon follows me out, come out and get the rest!"
Hephaestus skidded to a stop and spun about, eyeing the low tunnel that led to the mines. The stupid dragon was in a frightful fit, wanting to munch on the imposing drow but fearing a robbery from behind...

...In the end, Hephaestus settled the dilemma as he settled every problem: He vowed to thoroughly eat the next merchant party that came his way. ~ R.A. Salvatore
Fearing quotes by R.A. Salvatore
This life will never be without storms. Stop fearing the storm. Build your inner shelter. ~ Yasmin Mogahed
Fearing quotes by Yasmin Mogahed
Life is better life past fearing death,
Than that which lives to fear. ~ William Shakespeare
Fearing quotes by William Shakespeare
For while libertarians have too often been opportunists who lose sight of or under-cut their ultimate goal, some have erred in the opposite direction: fearing and condemning any advances toward the idea as necessarily selling out the goal itself. The tragedy is that these sectarians, in condemning all advances that fall short of the goal, serve to render vain and futile the cherished goal itself. ~ Murray N. Rothbard
Fearing quotes by Murray N. Rothbard
After you've found love, and you look back on the path you took to reach it, it all seems a bit silly. We spend so much time fearing rejection, when what we really should fear is not trying at all. ~ Mitch Rowland
Fearing quotes by Mitch Rowland
For so long, talking about Samira, acknowledging her as someone who no longer lived in him, had felt dangerous as running his fingers along a sharp edge. It had been Miel eating a slick of honey off a knife. It was an heirloom blade his mother would not leave out, fearing Sam was still a child who might cut himself.
But now he was Samir, and Samira was the friend he almost thought he imagined. And she would be a little more imaginary once he and his mother finished changing his name. He wanted to neither forget she existed nor live inside her.
She was someone he could not be. ~ Anna-Marie McLemore
Fearing quotes by Anna-Marie McLemore
It was a Different Time. People were Friendly. We trusted each other. Hell, you could afford to get mixed up with wild strangers in those days
without fearing for your life, or your eyes, or your organs, or all of your money, or even getting locked up in prison forever. There was a sense of possibility. People were not so afraid, as they are now. You could run around naked without getting shot. You could check into a roadside motel on the outskirts of Ely or Winnemucca or Elko where you were lost in a midnight rainstorm
and nobody called the police on you, just to check out your credit and your employment history and your medical records and how many parking tickets you owed in California. ~ Hunter S. Thompson
Fearing quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
We keep ourselves so tied up in regretting the past and fearing the future that we don't have any energy left to figure out who we are and what we want to create right now. ~ Gay Hendricks
Fearing quotes by Gay Hendricks
I expected little else" [...]"How dare you?" I clutched the front of my ruined dress in mock affront. "I am a God-fearing Christian woman now-- ~ Shelby Mahurin
Fearing quotes by Shelby Mahurin
People, fearing their own extinction, are willing to accept and perpetuate hand-me-down answers to the meaning of life and death; and, fearing a weakening of the tribal structures that sustain them, reinforce with their tales the conventional notions of justice, freedom, law and order, nature, family, etc. The writer, lone rider, has the power, if not always the skills, wisdom, or desire, to disturb this false contentment. ~ Robert Coover
Fearing quotes by Robert Coover
Loving someone is like moving into a house. At first you fall in love with all the new things, amazed every morning that all this belongs to you, as if fearing that someone would suddenly come rushing in through the door to explain that a terrible mistake had been made, you weren't actually supposed to live in a wonderful place like this. Then over the years the walls become weathered, the wood splinters here and there, and you start to love that house not so much because of all its perfection, but rather its imperfections. You get to know all the nooks and crannies. How to avoid getting the key caught in the lock when it's cold outside. Which of the floorboards flex slightly when one steps on them or exactly how to open the wardrobe doors without their creaking. These are the little secrets that make it your home. ~ Fredrik Backman
Fearing quotes by Fredrik Backman
I'd kill for you, Tess. I have killed for you. Don't undermine me by fearing others. Fear me. Let me rule you! ~ Pepper Winters
Fearing quotes by Pepper Winters
Your thoughts and your actions are fixed forever in their terms. That is slavery. I, on the other hand, brought you freedom. Freedom is expensive, but the price is not impossible. So, fear your captors, your masters. Don't waste your time and your power fearing me. ~ Carlos Castaneda
Fearing quotes by Carlos Castaneda
We spoke of those magic summer nights, looking out over the gulf of Castellammare, when the stars are mirrored in the sleeping sea, and how, lying on your back among the mastic trees, your spirit is lost in the whirling heavens, while the body braces itself, fearing the approach of demons. ~ Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa
Fearing quotes by Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa
Don't live a life full of gossip and negative things. Life is not intended to be spent like that but with love, understanding, forgiveness, positiveness and a God fearing soul. Be free and happy in the arms of loving God. ~ Jennifer Aquillo
Fearing quotes by Jennifer Aquillo
What preoccupies us, then, is not God as a fact of nature, but as a fabrication useful for a God-fearing society. God himself becomes not a power but an image. ~ Daniel J. Boorstin
Fearing quotes by Daniel J. Boorstin
Seek (beneficial) knowledge,
because seeking it for the sake of Allaah is a worship.
And knowing it makes you more God-fearing;
and searching for it is jihad,
teaching it to those who do not know is charity,
reviewing and learning it more is like tasbeeh.
Through knowledge Allaah will be known and worshiped. ~ Ibn Taymiyyah
Fearing quotes by Ibn Taymiyyah
Acknowledging the problem is healthy, fearing it is not. ~ Karla Perry
Fearing quotes by Karla Perry
Ursula declined, fearing enchantment. ~ Kate Atkinson
Fearing quotes by Kate Atkinson
I thought about how people tended to congregate in homogeneous groups, avoiding and often fearing outsiders. This was the root of prejudice and group hatreds. "We also must learn not to just go to those people whose vibrations are the same as ours." To help these other people. I could feel the spiritual truths in her words. ~ Brian L. Weiss
Fearing quotes by Brian L. Weiss
I never feared about my skills because I put in the work. Work ethic eliminates fear. So if you put forth the work, what are you fearing? You know what you're capable of doing and what you're not. ~ Michael Jordan
Fearing quotes by Michael Jordan
You can't love a person who lives that way without fearing him too. Maybe even hating him a littele ~ Khaled Hosseini
Fearing quotes by Khaled Hosseini
Our socialism does not include extreme materialistic concepts, since Indonesia is primarily a God-fearing, God-loving nation. Our socialism is a mixture. We draw political equality from the American Declaration of Independence. We draw spiritual equality from Islam and Christianity. We draw scientific equality from Marx. ~ Sukarno
Fearing quotes by Sukarno
Involvement with the eight worldly dharmas keeps beings imprisoned in the realms of samsara and renders them susceptible to the hosts of emotions. The eight worldly dharmas are: praise and blame, gain and loss, fame and disgrace, happiness and suffering.

The eight worldly dharmas constitute our attachment to hopes and fears: We hope for praise, gain, fame, and happiness while fearing blame, loss, disgrace, and suffering. Entangled in these eight concerns, we give our energy and intelligence to the pursuit of these hopes and the avoidance of these fears. Our way of thinking is completely dominated by these eight concerns, which the world proclaims to be of utmost importance. But Śāntideva reminds us that to achieve true peace of mind, one must "... turn this thinking upside down," becoming indifferent to hope and unmoved by fear. ~ Dharma Publishing
Fearing quotes by Dharma Publishing
It was a trick. It was this place, all the memories. His longing heart and the darkness conspiring. But his eyes told him it was no trick. He jumped down off the steps and walked toward her. Hoping. Fearing. He'd done this before. So many times. Caught sight of a slender black-haired woman and impulsively called to her, only to have her turn and gaze at him with eyes that were questioning, coldly polite, and never, ever hers. ~ Jennifer Donnelly
Fearing quotes by Jennifer Donnelly
If your dream doesn't scare you, it's not big enough. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Fearing quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
WE ALREADY HAVE everything we need. There is no need for self-improvement. All these trips that we lay on ourselves - the heavy-duty fearing that we're bad and hoping that we're good, the identities that we so dearly cling to, the rage, the jealousy and the addictions of all kinds - never touch our basic wealth. They are like clouds that temporarily block the sun. But all the time our warmth and brilliance are right here. This is who we really are. We are one blink of an eye away from being fully awake. ~ Pema Chodron
Fearing quotes by Pema Chodron
Ours is the first era in which it has been possible for people of different
nations to conduct their affairs in a friendly and understanding manner. In the old days, peoples spent their lives fearing and even hating one another because of ignorance on all sides. ~ Albert Einstein
Fearing quotes by Albert Einstein
Here haue I cause, in men iust blame to find,
That in their proper prayse too partiall bee,
And not indifferent to woman kind,
To whom no share in armes and cheualrie
They do impart, ne maken memorie
Of their brave gestes and prowess martiall;
Scarse do they spare to one or two or three,
Rowme in their writs; yet the same writing small
Does all their deeds deface, and dims their glories all,
But by record of antique times I find,
That women wont in warres to beare most sway,
And to all great exploits them selues inclind:
Of which they still the girlond bore away,
Till enuious Men fearing their rules decay,
Gan coyne straight laws to curb their liberty;
Yet sith they warlike armes haue layd away:
They haue exceld in artes and policy,
That now we foolish men that prayse gin eke t'enuy. ~ Edmund Spenser
Fearing quotes by Edmund Spenser
She probably should have been afraid of him, but he brought her such a sense of well-being that fearing him was impossible. ~ Christine Feehan
Fearing quotes by Christine Feehan
We feel that to reveal embarrassing or private things, we have given someone something, that, like a primitive person fearing that a photographer will steal his soul, we identify our secrets, our past and their blotches, with our identity, that revealing our habits or losses or deeds somehow makes one less of oneself. ~ Dave Eggers
Fearing quotes by Dave Eggers
Let us put aside resolutely that great fright, tenderly and without malice, daring to be wrong in something important rather than right in some meticulous banality, fearing no evil while the mind is free to search, imagine, and conclude, inviting our countrymen to try other instruments than coercion and suppression in the effort to meet destiny with triumph, genially suspecting that no creed yet calendared in the annals of politics mirrors the doomful possibilities of infinity. ~ Charles A. Beard
Fearing quotes by Charles A. Beard
Upon the King! Let us our lives, our souls,
Our debts, our careful wives,
Our children, and our sins, lay on the King!
We must bear all. O hard condition,
Twin-born with greatness, subject to the breath
Of every fool, whose sense no more can feel
But his own wringing! What infinite heart's ease
Must kings neglect that private men enjoy!
And what have kings that privates have not too,
Save ceremony- save general ceremony?
And what art thou, thou idol Ceremony?
What kind of god art thou, that suffer'st more
Of mortal griefs than do thy worshippers?
What are thy rents? What are thy comings-in?
O Ceremony, show me but thy worth!
What is thy soul of adoration?
Art thou aught else but place, degree, and form,
Creating awe and fear in other men?
Wherein thou art less happy being fear'd
Than they in fearing.
What drink'st thou oft, instead of homage sweet,
But poison'd flattery? O, be sick, great greatness,
And bid thy ceremony give thee cure!
Thinks thou the fiery fever will go out
With titles blown from adulation?
Will it give place to flexure and low bending?
Canst thou, when thou command'st the beggar's knee,
Command the health of it? No, thou proud dream,
That play'st so subtly with a king's repose.
I am a king that find thee; and I know
'Tis not the balm, the sceptre, and the ball,
The sword, the ~ William Shakespeare
Fearing quotes by William Shakespeare
That men should live honestly, quietly, and comfortably together, it is needful that they should live under a sense of God's will, and in awe of the divine power, hoping to please God, and fearing to offend Him, by their behaviour respectively. ~ Isaac Barrow
Fearing quotes by Isaac Barrow
Fearing one enemy too much may lead you right into the arms of another. ~ M.B. Watson
Fearing quotes by M.B. Watson
Fewer than 5 percent of Danes attend church. In godless Denmark, the national government funds a high quality education for all children, rich and poor alike, while in God-fearing America, education is funded through local property taxes, so neighborhood and income dictate a child's educational opportunities. Add in race and ethnicity factors to create a perfectly stratified school system segregated by educational opportunity. ~ Frank Schaeffer
Fearing quotes by Frank Schaeffer
I decided that many of Bear's stories and comments shared a general drift. They advised against fearing all of creation. But not because it is always benign, for it is not. It will, with certainty, consume us all. We are made to be destroyed. We are kindling for the fire, and our lives will stand as naught against the onrush of time. Bear's position, if I understood it, was that refusal to fear these general terms of existence is an honorable act of defiance. ~ Charles Frazier
Fearing quotes by Charles Frazier
Fearing that Taft would be too reticent on the stump, Roosevelt barraged him with incessant advice. "Do not answer Bryan; attack him!" he counseled in early September, adding, "Don't let him make the issues. ~ Doris Kearns Goodwin

A likeness different from the products of the God-fearing photographer. ~ Vincent Van Gogh
Fearing quotes by Vincent Van Gogh
What is reprehensible is that while leading good lives themselves and abhorring those of wicked men, some, fearing to offend, shut their eyes to evil deeds instead of condemning them and pointing out their malice. ~ Saint Augustine
Fearing quotes by Saint Augustine
Life is open to us all. No one will ever see life exactly the same as another. Some folks will argue that one who is on a focused path to expanding into the best they can be has changed or is changing.
To that I say: I haven't changed I'm just growing better and more confident about moving towards my vision.. I feel ready. Since I'm ready everything has opened to me. Beyond that, just remember that- No one can see the goal like you can. No one will, ever. But team work still works!
People can feel the passion in your movement. Help comes when we free ourselves from fearing success. Call out your dream and move on it. Step by step. Yes, you can. Just keep striving! Much love and honor. ~ Sereda Aleta Dailey
Fearing quotes by Sereda Aleta Dailey
A wise nation should cultivate a political spirit that allows opponents to cooperate without fearing an automatic execution from their core supporters. Who knew that the real rogues in American politics would be the ones who dare to get along? ~ Jon Meacham
Fearing quotes by Jon Meacham
The tragedy of life is not death, but fearing to live, allowing parts of us to wilt and die instead of flower and rejoice. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Fearing quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
I'd grown up fearing the lynch mobs of the Ku Klux Klan; as an adult I was starting to wonder if I'd been afraid of the wrong white people all along - where I was being pursued not by bigots in white robes, but by left-wing zealots draped in flowing sanctimony. ~ Clarence Thomas
Fearing quotes by Clarence Thomas
Some find it hard to write emotively. I've had some people say to me that they simply cannot. There are two ways to try and achieve it, to either draw upon your own lives experiences or pushing your imagination into those circumstances and feeling how your heart reacts.
When I write emotively much of it comes from my own experiences and thoughts. But for some things it is not because I have experienced every emotion in my short life time already. It means I am able to imagine in my mind a given situation and feel how my heart reacts to those thoughts. Forcing myself deep into the moment of fantasy and not fearing how I feel. Some writers rely on this skill, not picturing it in their mind they are feeling it as though with their own heart even though the situation is not one they have found themselves to have been in. I believe I struggle with this, I challenge myself in some of my stories and writing that I do but I find myself favouring writing about what I know, what I have felt in my own life, love being most favoured but also excitement, worry, fear and of course sorrow. Many people will be happy to write about joy and happiness but would never write of their fears and weaknesses, feeling that for others to see you so exposed in a raw state of emotion adds to the agony of the original event you are writing about. Especially those who want to be seen as strong all the time, they worry that so show any emotion other than strength of positivity is weakness. This façade ~ Raven Lockwood
Fearing quotes by Raven Lockwood
I am a stranger to myself, and when I hear my tongue speak, my ears wonder over my voice; I see my inner self smiling, crying, braving, and fearing; and my existence wonders over my substance while my soul interrogates my heart; but I remain unknown, engulfed by tremendous silence.
My thoughts are strangers to my body, and as I stand before the mirror, I see something in my face which my soul does not see, and I find in my eyes what my inner self does not find. ~ Kahlil Gibran
Fearing quotes by Kahlil Gibran
The Igbo culture, being receptive to change, individualistic, and highly competitive, gave the Igbo man an unquestioned advantage over his compatriots in securing credentials for advancement in Nigerian colonial society. Unlike the Hausa/Fulani he was unhindered by a wary religion, and unlike the Yoruba he was unhampered by traditional hierarchies. This kind of creature, fearing no god or man, was custom-made to grasp the opportunities, such as they were, of the white man's dispensations. And ~ Chinua Achebe
