I didn't want to rush into things, or move ahead when we were both drunk on the essence of such a highly exotic moment. ~ Sana Khatri
Fantasy Books quotes by Sana Khatri
He was aware that darkness could take root in pristine gardens, and even good men could fall to shadow. ~ Ella Rose Carlos

Those who try to juggle wisdom, power and greed, drop one of the balls, every time.
- Zarost ~ Greg Hamerton
Fantasy Books quotes by Greg Hamerton
The first fantasy books I can remember reading were 'The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek' and the series of 'Mushroom Planet' books. ~ Melanie Rawn
Fantasy Books quotes by Melanie Rawn
If you want to write a fantasy story with Norse gods, sentient robots, and telepathic dinosaurs, you can do just that. Want to throw in a vampire and a lesbian unicorn while you're at it? Go ahead. Nothing's off limits. But the endless possibility of the genre is a trap. It's easy to get distracted by the glittering props available to you and forget what you're supposed to be doing: telling a good story. Don't get me wrong, magic is cool. But a nervous mother singing to her child at night while something moves quietly through the dark outside her house? That's a story. Handled properly, it's more dramatic than any apocalypse or goblin army could ever be. ~ Patrick Rothfuss
Fantasy Books quotes by Patrick Rothfuss
I think this is where it started, the day I fell in love with her.
The start of a series of events that would change my life forever. ~ Yolanda Hatcher
Fantasy Books quotes by Yolanda Hatcher
My strings are being pulled, this time by a different puppet master. ~ Emilyann Girdner
Fantasy Books quotes by Emilyann Girdner
There were old firemasters and bad firemasters; there were no old bad firemasters ~ Jon Courtenay Grimwood
Fantasy Books quotes by Jon Courtenay Grimwood
Your present is what you live, but your past is what you carry. ~ Dan Sanders
Fantasy Books quotes by Dan Sanders
If you see the dragon fly,
best you drink the flagon dry.
- Zarost ~ Greg Hamerton
Fantasy Books quotes by Greg Hamerton
Eena worried to Ian in her thoughts. (You're not going to let him walk away thinking what I think he's thinking, are you?)

(You won't change his mind. The evidence is a little suggestive. You should have just stayed behind me.)

(Oh, this is all my fault?)

(Well, you were the one swimming in your underwear.)

(And you're the one who took your shirt off!)

(You think the alternative would have been better?)

She shuttered at the thought of the Braetic stumbling across her in her underclothes.

"Cale," Eena said in another attempt to convince the stranger. Somehow she managed to sidestep Ian's effort to halt her, and she approached the man. "I am not messing around with my protector. I am, and always have been, true and faithful to Derian. It's just……a lot of weird things have happened lately."

The Braetic looked willing to consider a good excuse. "Such as?"

"Well," she started, casting a furtive glance at Ian. He was shaking his head, conveying strong disapproval. She ignored him.

"Okay, well…..I've been fighting these immortals who are bent on using me to break free from an imprisoning gem where they were sentenced to stayed locked up for eternity. They nearly annihilated a world of Viiduns - that's how awful they are! But one of these immortals has control over my necklace, and her brother keeps transporting me and my protector all over Moccobatra in search of pieces to ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Fantasy Books quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
Say that again."
"My love..."
"It sounds stunning when you say it."
"Really?"
"Yes. ~ Sana Khatri
Fantasy Books quotes by Sana Khatri
Derian pulled the blanket snug around himself. "This is my added assurance."

Eena wrinkled her nose as if she thought his answer was odder than his actions. "It's your what?"

"If you recall the last time we were here standing in this very spot, you pelted me with neumberries." He held up a single berry before popping it into his mouth. "I doubt you would risk soiling your blanket, so I figure wrapping it around me this way I'm pretty much assured safety from any potential attack."

He winked playfully, and she laughed out loud.

"I'm afraid you don't know me half as well as you think," she announced. Aiming low, she flung a sizable berry at his calf. It hit its mark.

"Whoa, whoa!" He lowered the blanket to cover his legs.

"You can't hide yourself entirely, Derian," she said, aiming for his face. He ducked, raising the blanket like a shield in the process.

Another round of ammunition pelted his ankles before he decided it was time to fight back. Eena found herself bound up in her own blanket, arms wrapped securely at her sides. She laughed nonstop, unable to move within his strong hold. Derian leaned forward until their noses touched, and then he kissed her giggles silent. He kept her in the blanket, snug and close to him, but Eena managed to wriggle an arm free and drape it around his neck, holding his lips in reach. She uttered a quick count in between kisses.

"Seven," she breathed.
Richelle E. Goodrich
Fantasy Books quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
I remember when I was very young, I had a fever - a long rheumatic fever in bed for four months. And in the days, I stayed alone with the maid. I only had my father's books with me. They were fantasy books about ghosts, and also books by Edgar Allen Poe that made a forever impression on me. ~ Dario Argento
Fantasy Books quotes by Dario Argento
Clutching the claw around his neck, Fawn pushed away the dungeon of hatred. Goodness had a great truth, too, and that was sacrifice. It was something darkness could never understand, for it was entrenched with precious treasures like love. ~ Ella Rose Carlos
Fantasy Books quotes by Ella Rose Carlos
I was pregnable once," Merill thought to contribute. She remembered how troublesome it made getting around, having a ripe belly. Couldn't roll properly, couldn't hop properly, couldn't romp or flop properly. There were the cravings for roasted cabbage - she loathed cabbage, with its leaves and growing in rows. And labor! Merill passed out during childbirth. She'd endured burns, lacerations, rips, serrated teeth, nails, hooks and a trove of unmentionable harm-inflictors. Labor trounced them all and wriggled gleefully in the spray of blood and gore. "Being pregnable is no good. No good at all. Like growing a bitter melon in your belly. ~ Darrell Drake
Fantasy Books quotes by Darrell Drake
A last, despairing thought shot through Aliya's mind, Is this it? I don't want to die! I want to live! Then everything went dark. ~ Lina J. Potter
Fantasy Books quotes by Lina J. Potter
Fantasy is a reaction to the constraints of reality. ~ Stewart Stafford
Fantasy Books quotes by Stewart Stafford
Some years ago I had a conversation with a man who thought that writing and editing fantasy books was a rather frivolous job for a grown woman like me. He wasn't trying to be contentious, but he himself was a probation officer, working with troubled kids from the Indian reservation where he'd been raised. Day in, day out, he dealt in a concrete way with very concrete problems, well aware that his words and deeds could change young lives for good or ill.
I argued that certain stories are also capable of changing lives, addressing some of the same problems and issues he confronted in his daily work: problems of poverty, violence, and alienation, issues of culture, race, gender, and class...
"Stories aren't real," he told me shortly. "They don't feed a kid left home in an empty house. Or keep an abusive relative at bay. Or prevent an unloved child from finding 'family' in the nearest gang."
Sometimes they do, I tried to argue. The right stories, read at the right time, can be as important as shelter or food. They can help us to escape calamity, and heal us in its aftermath. He frowned, dismissing this foolishness, but his wife was more conciliatory. "Write down the names of some books," she said. "Maybe we'll read them."
I wrote some titles on a scrap of paper, and the top three were by Charles de lint – for these are precisely the kind of tales that Charles tells better than anyone. The vital, necessary stories. The ones that can change and heal young live ~ Terri Windling
Fantasy Books quotes by Terri Windling
I've been called many things in my time, but never a conduit of divinity- Cedric MacKinnon, My Fearful Symmetry ~ Denise Verrico
Fantasy Books quotes by Denise Verrico
I hate SF books that think all you need to make a book is cool technology and mind-bending ideas without a decent plot or characters. And I hate when fantasy books are allowed to ramble off into five hundred page diatribes which don't advance the story one bit. ~ Chris Wooding
Fantasy Books quotes by Chris Wooding
Do not speak wickedness, Tania. God can yet deliver us, if He chooses. If not, we shall glorify Him with our deaths. Jonah Havalseth ~ Z
Fantasy Books quotes by Z
Make no mistake, Marin ... a Dragon Guardian may not always be the one sitting upon the throne, but he or she is the protector of the entire realm. ~ Aida Jacobs
Fantasy Books quotes by Aida Jacobs
Demon," the woman spat onto the road. "Well, girl, thank you. I grant no one's wishes and so you mark me 'demon.' I grant no wishes and I do as I see fit to be done. I will not answer to you, girl, nor to any one of yours, but I will always look. I am not the one who turns away. ~ Tamara Rendell
Fantasy Books quotes by Tamara Rendell
There are relatively few science fiction or fantasy books with the main character being an old person. ~ Elizabeth Moon
Fantasy Books quotes by Elizabeth Moon
She was here and the world, for so long ugly and deformed, was all at once itself again. She was taking a glass of sweet wine from one of the waiters. She was smiling. She was breathing. She was here. She was an island of such colossal importance within a sea of inconsequence that it seemed impossible the Ball was able to continue its empty existence. ~ F.D. Lee
Fantasy Books quotes by F.D. Lee
Mistasinon stood as the music of life flowed around him, the instrument of his agency muted. ~ F.D. Lee
Fantasy Books quotes by F.D. Lee
The censors don't bother with fantasy books, especially old ones. They can't understand them. They think it's all kids' stuff. They'd die if they knew what The Chronicles of Narnia were really about. ~ G. Willow Wilson
Fantasy Books quotes by G. Willow Wilson
Back in middle school, Catherine and I had gone through this stage where all we would read were fantasy books. We'd consume them like M&M's, by the fistful, J.R.R. Tolkien and Terry Brooks and Susan Cooper and Lloyd Alexander. Susan Boone looked, to me, like the queen of the elves (there's almost always an elf queen in fantasy books). I mean, she was shorter than me and had on a strange lineny outfit in pale blues and greens ... ~ Meg Cabot
Fantasy Books quotes by Meg Cabot
You cannot be betrayed by your enemies, only your friends. ~ Brian D. Anderson
Fantasy Books quotes by Brian D. Anderson
So you know the best way to find Grisha who don't want to be found? Look for miracles and listen to bedtime stories. ~ Leigh Bardugo
Fantasy Books quotes by Leigh Bardugo
We'll always face hardships, that's just how things are, but you have to pick yourself up no matter how hard the fall. ~ J.E. Reed
Fantasy Books quotes by J.E. Reed
My love ... you were insolent to a dragon? Please tell me that I misheard you just now. ~ Aida Jacobs
Fantasy Books quotes by Aida Jacobs
CPR dummy looked like him and had clearly been stabbed. Repeatedly. In the groin. He thought she might have used the dummy for target practice, and tried not to be offended. Key word: tried. ~ Gena Showalter
Fantasy Books quotes by Gena Showalter
I talk about any number of things on my Facebook space. Politics. Current events. The writing life. The latest tempests in a teapot centering on fandom. Daily doings from my own life. My cats, for crying out loud. Flights of humorous fantasy. Books, both those I've read and those I've written. Movies. And occasionally, TV shows. ~ Adam-Troy Castro
Fantasy Books quotes by Adam-Troy Castro
If you're going to do something, DO IT.
If you want something, GET IT.
Don't just wish for it!
--- Mary Lynn H. Plaisance ~ Mary Lynn Plaisance
Fantasy Books quotes by Mary Lynn Plaisance
I shake my head. I want to say no, but my legs move toward the god; my heart beats so fast that the unnoticeable movement becomes painful and unpleasant. ~ Cyci Cade
Fantasy Books quotes by Cyci Cade
I do tasks for the gods, usually things like tracking down rare items or taking someone safely to a destination.
D'Molay the Freeman Tracker ~ M. Scott Verne
Fantasy Books quotes by M. Scott Verne
We made a big fuss over the possibility of microbes on Mars. If orangutans were Martians we'd cherish them, we'd be so amazed at how they're like us but not like us, they'd be invited to tea and cigars at the White House. But they're apes, sad in zoos, funny in movies, useful in advertisements and in fantasy books, I'm almost ashamed to say, but at least the Discworld's Librarian has done his bit for the species and caused more than a few bob to flow their way. ~ Anonymous
Fantasy Books quotes by Anonymous
The past wasn't something that could be changed or repaired, and so it was a place Ian refused to dwell. That wasn't the case with Eena. She often wandered on pathways long since set in stone. That was her way. She had some need to rearrange those stones from her past every now and then, as if changing how she perceived them altered anything. He felt guilty for wishing she would turn her back on it all. To him, no matter how the past was viewed, it was still the same pile of unchangeable, regrettable stones. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Fantasy Books quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
I am magicking as fast as I can!" - Gwydion ~ Sabrina Zbasnik
Fantasy Books quotes by Sabrina Zbasnik
I couldn't suppress a smile. It was inconceivable that I was here, in a place as extraordinary as the fantasy books Sophie loved. Maybe...just maybe those stories are based on a measure of truth. Maybe one day I'd write our story. ~ Heather L. L. FitzGerald
Fantasy Books quotes by Heather L. L. FitzGerald
This is where you and I are headed ... Look for us in history books and you'll find us in the margins. Look for us in legends and you might just find us celebrated ~ Scott Lynch
Fantasy Books quotes by Scott Lynch
How does it feel when I kiss you?" he asked.
"It feels like I have everything I need, everything I ever desired. Your touch awakens me, your warmth protects me, because you, Ryan Lawson, are my haven," I said, looking him straight in his alluring, hypnotizing eyes. ~ Sana Khatri
Fantasy Books quotes by Sana Khatri
So much of the way books get classified has to do with marketing decisions. I think it's more useful to think of literary books and sci-fi/fantasy books as existing on a continuum. ~ Karen Russell
Fantasy Books quotes by Karen Russell
He looked at himself in the mirror – brown hair glossing as the morning light hit his head, grey eyes sparkling as he smirked at his reflection. ~ Sana Khatri
Fantasy Books quotes by Sana Khatri
You don't know anything about me."
"No, I know not everything about you. But I sense enough to know you have mistaken obsession with drive, guilt with injustice. I know you want to escape what you are, cabbage fairy," he said, reaching for his hood and gloves and tucking them into the waistband of his trousers. "Your desires are no different from my own, I simply have the courage to face them. ~ F.D. Lee
Fantasy Books quotes by F.D. Lee
I love the Web, but the basis of my work is going through the physical books. When you go to the library, you see other books around on the shelves that you never knew existed. You can flip through a book and see the whole outline of it. ~ Camille Paglia
Fantasy Books quotes by Camille Paglia
I want to be in 'The Hobbit.' I love fantasy and mythical adventure films. I believe in fairies and angels. I believe in nature's spirit, that there are other realms, other planets, life forms. ~ Julia Sawalha
Fantasy Books quotes by Julia Sawalha
I had been taught to read the words of men like Madison as a cast into which I ought to pour the plaster of my own mind, to be reshaped according to the contours of their faultless model. I read them to learn what to think, not how to think for myself. Books that were not of God were banished; they were a danger, powerful and irresistible in their cunning.

To write my essay I had to read books differently, without giving myself over to either fear or adoration. ~ Tara Westover
Fantasy Books quotes by Tara Westover
When Sleeping Beauty wakes up, the whole palace is upset. "You must go back to sleep," her mother tells her, "It's not time." From what she understands, the Prince hasn't come to rescue her yet. ~ Mads Sukalikar
Fantasy Books quotes by Mads Sukalikar
I thought of all the summer evenings I'd spent sitting in the chairs under the trees beside the trailer, reading books that helped me escape Creek View, at least for a little while. Magical kingdoms, Russian love triangles, and the March sisters couldn't have been further away from the trailer park. ~ Heather Demetrios
Fantasy Books quotes by Heather Demetrios
My loved ones may vanish through death but my memories live on ~ Jonah Books.com
Fantasy Books quotes by Jonah Books.com
Mention in baseball's official record books, however, requires that catchers play a minimum of 156 games in a season, ~ Mark S. Halfon
Fantasy Books quotes by Mark S. Halfon
The complexities of adult life get in the way of the truth. ~ Mortimer J. Adler
Fantasy Books quotes by Mortimer J. Adler
I like the idea of standalone novels. I always found with series of books, it's something that publishers love obviously because they can make a lot of money and they build an audience from book to book, but I don't like that as a writer. I prefer the idea of just telling a story, completing it within your book, and moving on and not forcing a child to read eight of them. ~ John Boyne
Fantasy Books quotes by John Boyne
Almost I feel the pulsebeat of the ages,
Now swift, now slow, beneath my fingertips.
The heartthrobs of the prophets and the sages
Beat through these bindings; and my quick hand slips
Old books from dusty shelves, in eager seeking
For truths the flaming tongues of the ancients tell;
For the words of wisdom that they still are speaking
As clearly as an echoing silver bell.
Here is the melody that lies forever
At the deep heart of living; here we keep
The accurate recorded discs that never
Can be quite silenced, though their makers sleep
The still deep sleep, so long as a seeker finds
The indelible imprint of their moving minds. ~ Grace Noll Crowell
Fantasy Books quotes by Grace Noll Crowell
I'm a writer who stacks cat food for a living. It's true: I have a master's degree in creative writing, I've published two critically successful books, and I get paid to replenish the shelves of my local food co-op with pet food, sponges and toilet paper. Nine days out of 10, I do it quite happily. ~ Ali Liebegott
Fantasy Books quotes by Ali Liebegott
I was reading.

You're always reading. The only way people can ever talk to you is to interrupt.

Then maybe they shouldn't talk to me. ~ -Tamora Pierce Briar S Book Via Fictionalheroine
Fantasy Books quotes by -Tamora Pierce Briar S Book Via Fictionalheroine
One pays a price for innovation, and innovators, knowing this, are hardly conciliators: books are not written specifically to please others; they are written, like it or not, to please oneself. ~ Alexis Lykiard
Fantasy Books quotes by Alexis Lykiard
I think my books are lighter and funnier than some of the big series out there. You may not walk away from my books having learned a life-altering lesson, but you will feel better for having laughed for a few hours. It's just a different style of writing. ~ Molly Harper
Fantasy Books quotes by Molly Harper
There's lots of interesting things in books. And you get to meet people you might never know otherwise. ~ Kiki Hamilton
Fantasy Books quotes by Kiki Hamilton
What makes a difference is when we take our mind and put it into the scriptures, when we read the Buddhist Canon, the Pali Canon, when we read the Tibetan books, when we read anything inspiring - somebody else's journey into the world of enlightenment. ~ Frederick Lenz
Fantasy Books quotes by Frederick Lenz
Adam glanced at me. His grin was back. I'd forgotten how easily he could wind me up.
"You know, Eliza," he said, "maybe you're missing something here."
"You're going to be missing a few teeth if you don't explain yourself," I growled. ~ Sam Dogra
Fantasy Books quotes by Sam Dogra
only one way to find out ~ Maria V. Snyder
Fantasy Books quotes by Maria V. Snyder
Who robbed the woods,
The trusting woods?
The unsuspecting trees
Brought out their burrs and mosses
His fantasy to please.
He scanned their trinkets, curious,
He grasped, he bore away.
What will the solemn hemlock,
What will the fir-tree say? ~ Emily Dickinson
Fantasy Books quotes by Emily Dickinson
Don't Read Weight-Loss Books: Eat Them. They're a better source of fiber than information on permanent weight loss. If you eat them, they'll stay with you longer and be generally better for your bowels than the plans they offer. Ditch Your Diet. Research shows that no diet works for long, and constantly trying and failing at dieting is depressing, unhealthy, and ends up making you even fatter. Use the SWELMM system of Stop Worrying, Eat Less, Move More. ~ Paul Pearsall
Fantasy Books quotes by Paul Pearsall
When I go on vacation, I take very few clothes and a whole lot of books. It's the most soothing thing in the world. Reading 'Moby-Dick' is like being in a time machine. I almost feel as excited as the first time I read it and I always find something new. ~ Nile Rodgers
Fantasy Books quotes by Nile Rodgers
There are a lot of very good New York novels, but there's no single all-encompassing novel, the way you could look at any number of Dickens books and say we know London as a result of that. ~ Pete Hamill
Fantasy Books quotes by Pete Hamill
CUSTOMER: You know how they say that if you gave a thousand monkeys typewriters, then they'd eventually churn out really good writing? BOOKSELLER: ... yes. CUSTOMER: Well, do you have any books by those monkeys? BOOKSELLER: ... ~ Jen Campbell
Fantasy Books quotes by Jen Campbell
Most books are surplus to the world's requirements, and I am going to sound very conceited here, but I am trying to write books that aren't just using up trees. ~ Michel Faber
Fantasy Books quotes by Michel Faber
A bizarrerie of fires, cunabulum of light, it moved with a deft, almost dainty deliberation, phasing into and out of existence like a storm-shot piece of evening; or perhaps the darkness between the flares was more akin to its truest nature swirl of black ashes assembled in prancing cadence to the lowing note of desert wind down the arroyo behind buildings as empty yet filled as the pages of unread books or stillnesses between the notes of a song. ~ Roger Zelazny
Fantasy Books quotes by Roger Zelazny
Physical artifacts carry memory and meaning, and this is as true of important historical texts as it is of cherished childhood books. ~ Allison Hoover Bartlett
Fantasy Books quotes by Allison Hoover Bartlett
Let them get at the books themselves, and do not let them be flooded with diluted talk from the lips of their teacher. The less the parents 'talk-in' and expound their rations of knowledge and thought to the children they are educating, the better for the children ... Children must be allowed to ruminate, must be left alone with their own thoughts. ~ Charlotte Mason
Fantasy Books quotes by Charlotte Mason
It breaks my heart that we are always being nudged toward the most recently published books, when so many worthy books have gone unexplored. ~ Cathy Marie Buchanan
Fantasy Books quotes by Cathy Marie Buchanan
I've done everything I've wanted to do. I have three children, I have grandchildren, I have books, I did movies, I've directed movies, I've done almost everything I've wanted to do. ~ Carl Reiner
Fantasy Books quotes by Carl Reiner
Star, pillows don't attack dogs," Sam said.
"Or anything else," Turtle added. ~ Jennifer Priester
Fantasy Books quotes by Jennifer Priester
Every life is inexplicable, I kept telling myself. No matter how many facts are told, no matter how many details are given, the essential thing resists telling. To say that so and so was born here and went there, that he did this and did that, that he married this woman and had these children, that he lived, that he died, that he left behind these books or this battle or that bridge – none of that tells us very much. ~ Paul Auster
Fantasy Books quotes by Paul Auster
What do my science fiction stories have in common with pornography? Fantasies of an impossibly hospitable world, I'm told. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Fantasy Books quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Music is gathering. Taking our scattered thoughts and senses and coalescing us back into our core. Music is powerful. The first few chords can change us where no self-help books can. ~ Jane Siberry
Fantasy Books quotes by Jane Siberry
For a man to take it at thirty-four as a guide-book to what life holds is about as safe as it would be for a man of the same age to enter Wall Street direct from a French convent, equipped with a complete set of the more practical Alger books. ~ Ernest Hemingway,
Fantasy Books quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
There's been a fragmentation of how the market functions, but I believe printed books are here to stay. People like the tactile experience, the smell of them; there's a great romance to them. ~ Jonathan Galassi
