From the beginning of time, we've had financial crises. People always blame the banks and for good reason. When you look for the root causes, they're almost always failed government policies. ~ Henry Paulson
Failed Government quotes by Henry Paulson
A perfect society needs no rulers," they said. "Knowledge and authority ought to be held in common. In order to imagine a new existence, we must free ourselves from the structures of both our failed government and the unjustifiable hegemony of the wasp nests. Hear what you can hear and learn what you can learn while we remain among them. But be ready. ~ E. Lily Yu
Failed Government quotes by E. Lily Yu
If [the shooting of Gabby Giffords in] Tucson tells us anything at all, it tells us this: Government has failed. ~ Wayne LaPierre
Failed Government quotes by Wayne LaPierre
The salient feature of America in the Age of Obama is a failed government class institutionally committed to living beyond its means, and a citizenry too many of whom are content to string along. ~ Mark Steyn
Failed Government quotes by Mark Steyn
Our Constitution, which was intended to limit government power and abuse, has failed, ~ Ron Paul
Failed Government quotes by Ron Paul
peculiar. Allergies he expected, and that anti-septic smell never failed to make his head spin. Despite what his many Doctors would tell you, Nathan hated hospitals. Jogging through the foliage keeping ~ Jack Price
Failed Government quotes by Jack Price
I don't believe less in American government because of a bad politician. I don't believe less in the Catholic Church because of a criminal priest but I wish we were doing more - and had done more in the past especially - to do something about these things. It doesn't harm my faith but it gets me just mad that these things have existed. ~ Lino Rulli
Failed Government quotes by Lino Rulli
We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments. ~ James Madison
Failed Government quotes by James Madison
The hippy movement was a failure. All hippies around now just represent complete apathy. There's a million good reasons why the thing failed, OK. But the only thing we've got to live with is that it failed. ~ Joe Strummer
Failed Government quotes by Joe Strummer
What we need is not more Federal government, but better local government. ~ Calvin Coolidge
Failed Government quotes by Calvin Coolidge
DB: There's a lot of talk about terrorism. In fact, it's become almost an obsession for the media in the United States. But it's a very narrow definition of terrorism.
AR: Yes. It completely ignores the economic terrorism unleashed by neoliberalism, which devastates the lives of millions of people, depriving them of water, food, electricity. Denying them medicine. Denying them education. Terrorism is the logical extension of this business of the free market. Terrorism is the privatization of war. Terrorists are the free marketeers of war - people who believe that it isn't only the state that can wage war, but private parties as well.
If you look at the logic underlying an act of terrorism and the logic underlying a retaliatory war against terrorism, they are the same. Both terrorists and governments make ordinary people pay for the actions of their governments. Osama bin Laden is making people pay for the actions of the US state, whether it's in Saudi Arabia, Palestine, or Afghanistan. The US government is making the people of Iraq pay for the actions of Saddam Hussein. The people of Afghanistan pay for the crimes of the Taliban. The logic is the same.
Osama bin Laden and George Bush are both terrorists. They are both building international networks that perpetrate terror and devastate people's lives. Bush, with the Pentagon, the WTO, the IMF, and the World Bank. Bin Laden with Al Qaeda. ~ Arundhati Roy
Failed Government quotes by Arundhati Roy
Aid can work where there is good governance, and usually fails where governments are unable or unwilling to commit aid to improve the lives of their people. ~ Lee H. Hamilton
Failed Government quotes by Lee H. Hamilton
The law has now done its part, and the Queen of England, her crown and Government in Ireland, are now secure pursuant to Act of Parliament. I have done my part also. Three months ago I promised Lord Clarendon, and his government, in this country, that I would provoke him into his courts of justice, as places of this kind are called, and that I would force him publicly and notoriously to pack a Jury against me to convict me, or else that if I would walk out a free man from this dock, to meet him in another field. My lord, I knew I was setting my life on that cast; but I warned him that in either event the victory would be with me, and the victory is with me. Neither the jury, nor the judges, nor any other man in this court, presumes to imagine that it is a criminal who stands in this dock. I have kept my word. "I have shown what the law is made of in Ireland. I have shown that her Majesty's Government sustains itself in Ireland by packed juries by partisan judges, by perjured sheriffs. I have acted all through this business, from the first, under a strong sense of duty. I do not repent anything I have done: and I believe that the course which I have opened is only commenced, The Roman who saw his hand burning to ashes before the tyrant, promised that three hundred should follow out his enterprise, Can I not promise for one, for two, for three, aye, for hundreds? ~ John Mitchel
Failed Government quotes by John Mitchel
The organized workers of America, free in their industrial life, conscious partners in production, secure in their homes and enjoying a decent standard of living, will prove the finest bulwark against the intrusion of alien doctrines of government. ~ John L. Lewis
Failed Government quotes by John L. Lewis
I kept seeing turning points. First the uprising. Then the creation of the Free Syrian Army, the FSA. Now a big assassination bombing in the heart of Assad's government. But the turn never came. It just got worse and worse. ~ Richard Engel
Failed Government quotes by Richard Engel
In no way have we contemplated the intervention of the army in tasks that belong to police at the different levels of government. What is contemplated .. is support from the army in these tasks but not in direct actions that correspond to municipal, state and federal police. ~ Ruben Aguilar
Failed Government quotes by Ruben Aguilar
My work in government has flowed from the fundamental idea of personal empowerment. It's about giving people the tools they need to pave their own way. ~ James Langevin
Failed Government quotes by James Langevin
It is not the men who are in command of the bulldozers. It is the bulldozer who invented men, and then, since they failed to interest it, obliterated them with its muscular arm. ~ Jean-Marie G. Le Clezio
Failed Government quotes by Jean-Marie G. Le Clezio
When consumers do not take full advantage of efficiency gains, it is because they are weighing other factors that influence their decision making. When the federal government arbitrarily places one of those factors over others, it makes consumers worse off. ~ Gina McCarthy
Failed Government quotes by Gina McCarthy
Our problem in money-making or government affairs is how to remain properly venturesome and experimental without making fools of ourselves. ~ Bernard Baruch
Failed Government quotes by Bernard Baruch
People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. ~ Adam Smith
Failed Government quotes by Adam Smith
For too long, we've attached some mythic notion to government solutions, and yet, 40 years after we began the War on Poverty, poverty still abounds. ~ Rand Paul
Failed Government quotes by Rand Paul
America has got the equivalent of stage three cancer of socialism because the federal government is tampering in all kinds of stuff it has no business tampering in. ~ Todd Akin
Failed Government quotes by Todd Akin
Nature is in the process of shutting down corrupt corporations and their government minions. ~ Steven Magee
Failed Government quotes by Steven Magee
I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. ~ Michael Jordan
Failed Government quotes by Michael Jordan
Democracy, I do not conceive that ever God did ordain as a fit government either for church or commonwealth. If the people be governors, who shall be governed? ~ John Cotton
Failed Government quotes by John Cotton
After 20 years in Congress, I still believe that smaller government and lower taxes are the most effective economic policies. ~ Howard Coble
Failed Government quotes by Howard Coble
Every government has as much of a duty to avoid war as a ship's captain has to avoid a shipwreck. ~ Guy De Maupassant
Failed Government quotes by Guy De Maupassant
The man who knows governments most completely is he who troubles himself least about a definition which shall give their essence. Enjoying an intimate acquaintance with all their particularities in turn, he would naturally regard an abstract conception in which these were unified as a thing more misleading than enlightening. ~ William James
Failed Government quotes by William James
Even to this day, the government, the FDA is refusing to use the sophisticated biotechnology to evaluate the contaminants in the vaccines such as the polio vaccines that they are administering. I think (people) would be appalled that some of the vaccines that are currently being used are still laced with viruses. ~ Leonard Horowitz
Failed Government quotes by Leonard Horowitz
But every effort to make this work in practice at any scale failed, largely because the social bonds that police such mutual aid tend to fray when the size of the group exceeds 150 (termed the "Dunbar number" - the empirically observed limit at which the members of a human community can maintain strong links with one another). ~ Chris Anderson
Failed Government quotes by Chris Anderson
The government is promoting bad behavior. ~ Rick Santelli
Failed Government quotes by Rick Santelli
He had a strong conviction that no government could be ordained that could resist these internal forces, when, they are directed to its destruction by bad men, or unreasoning mobs, and many then believed, as some yet believe, that our government is unequal to such pressure, when the assault is thoroughly desperate. ~ Alexis De Tocqueville
Failed Government quotes by Alexis De Tocqueville
The government's living in its own cloud cuckoo land and it's a cloud of greenhouse gases. ~ Bob Brown
Failed Government quotes by Bob Brown
It is what we prevent, rather than what we do that counts most in Government. ~ William Lyon Mackenzie King
Failed Government quotes by William Lyon Mackenzie King
The mechanism that directs government cannot be virtuous, because it is impossible to thwart every crime, to protect oneself from every criminal without being criminal too; that which directs corrupt mankind must be corrupt itself; and it will never be by means of virtue, virtue being inert and passive, that you will maintain control over vice, which is ever active: the governor must be more energetic than the governed. ~ Marquis De Sade
Failed Government quotes by Marquis De Sade
If we're going to improve the environment, the first thing we should do is duck the government. The second thing we should do is quit being moral. Screw the rights of nature. Nature will have rights as soon as it get duties. The minute we see birds, trees, bugs, and squirrels picking up litter, giving money to charity, and keeping an eye on our kids at the park, we'll let them vote. ~ P. J. O'Rourke
Failed Government quotes by P. J. O'Rourke
The knowledge of the individual citizen is of less value than the knowledge of science. The former is the opinion of individuals. It is merely subjective and is excluded from policies. The latter is objective - defined by science and promulgated by expert spokesmen. This objective knowledge is viewed as a commodity which can be refined ... and fed into a process, now called decision-making. This new mythology of governance by the manipulation of knowledge-stock inevitably erodes reliance on government by people. ~ Ivan Illich
Failed Government quotes by Ivan Illich
Democracy is the most demanding of all forms of government in terms of the energy, imagination, and public spirit required of the individual. ~ George C. Marshall
Failed Government quotes by George C. Marshall
I think people are frustrated with dysfunction, not just dysfunction in government, but a lot of dysfunction that surrounds them. I get the frustration with drugs in the neighborhood or my kids with big college loans can't find a job. ~ John Kasich
Failed Government quotes by John Kasich
The principal objective of American government at every level should be to
see that children are born into intact families and that they remain so. ~ Daniel Patrick Moynihan
Failed Government quotes by Daniel Patrick Moynihan
In a country where Christians were looked upon with suspicion and disfavor, a government leader said to me with a twinkle in his eye, Christians seem to thrive under persecution. Perhaps we should prosper them, and then they would disappear. ~ Billy Graham
Failed Government quotes by Billy Graham
Eustacia Vye was the raw material of a divinity. On Olympus she would have done well with a little preparation. She had the passions and instincts which make a model goddess, that is, those which make not quite a model woman. Had it been possible for the earth and mankind to be entirely in her grasp for a while, she had handled the distaff, the spindle, and the shears at her own free will, few in the world would have noticed the change of government. There would have been the same inequality of lot, the same heaping up of favors here, of contumely there, the same generosity before justice, the same perpetual dilemmas, the same captious alteration of caresses and blows that we endure now. ~ Thomas Hardy
Failed Government quotes by Thomas Hardy
If your spouse gets sick, who would you visit - your non-doctor neighbor or an actual doctor! Any sane person would visit a doctor over a non-doctor neighbor, even if that neighbor happens to be a celebrity, because it is common knowledge that fame or charisma is not equivalent to medical expertise, yet when it comes to choosing a doctor to treat the sickness of a nation, the masses most proudly elect any charismatic chimpanzee over a humble, wise and conscientious leader. ~ Abhijit Naskar
Failed Government quotes by Abhijit Naskar
It is ... particularly true of constitutional government that its atmosphere is opinion ... It does not remain fixed in any unchanging form, but grows with the growth and is altered with the change of the nation's needs and purposes. ~ Woodrow Wilson
Failed Government quotes by Woodrow Wilson
In 1979, while Saudi Arabia was in the midst of a process of
liberalization, a group of religious fanatics seized the Grand Mosque in
Mecca. The Masjid al-Haram houses the kaaba, considered the holiest sitefor Muslims. This incident was a national trauma and transformative for al Saud, who reacted to it with an increased religious traditionalism enforced by the government and spearheaded by the ulama. Ambassador Smith credited a clear transformation to what occurred in 1979. "Saudi Arabia started going ultraconservative after the takeover of the Holy Mosque. ~ Ellen R. Wald
Failed Government quotes by Ellen R. Wald
Government is no more than taxpayers hiring the most inefficient organization to do the job. ~ James Cook
Failed Government quotes by James Cook
Can't make your payments? No problem. The interest charges keep on coming. In fact, banks prefer it that way. More money for them. The government guarantees it. ~ Jonathan Raymond
Failed Government quotes by Jonathan Raymond
How to check these unconstitutional invasions of rights by the Federal judiciary? Not by impeachment in the first instance, but by a strong protestation of both houses of Congress that such and such doctrines advanced by the Supreme Court are contrary to the Constitution; and if afterwards they relapse into the same heresies, impeach and set the whole adrift. For what was the government divided into three branches, but that each should watch over the others and oppose their usurpations? ~ Thomas Jefferson
Failed Government quotes by Thomas Jefferson
Clean water and power is our right as humans on this earth, and for too long, our governments in Africa have failed to provide these things. ~ William Kamkwamba
Failed Government quotes by William Kamkwamba
The conflict between what one is and who one is expected to be touches all of us. And sometimes, rather than reach for what one could be, we choose the comfort of the failed role, preferring to be the victim of circumstance, the person who didn't have a chance. ~ Merle Shain
Failed Government quotes by Merle Shain
How many watched the President's speech last night? [half-hearted audience applause] How many watched American Idol ? [thundering applause] Okay, there you go! You get the government you deserve. ~ Jay Leno
Failed Government quotes by Jay Leno
New Rule: Just because a country elects a smart president doesn't make it a smart country. A couple of weeks ago, I was asked on CNN if I thought Sarah Palin could get elected president, and I said I hope not, but I wouldn't put anything past this stupid country. Well, the station was flooded with emails, and the twits hit the fan. And you could tell that these people were really mad, because they wrote entirely in CAPITAL LETTERS!!! Worst of all, Bill O'Reilly refuted my contention that this is a stupid country by calling me a pinhead, which (a) proves my point, and (b) is really funny coming from a doody-face like him.

Now, before I go about demonstration how, sadly, easy it is to prove the dumbness that's dragging us down, let me just say that ignorance has life-and-death consequences. On the eve of the Iraq War, seventy percent of Americans thought Saddam Hussein was personally involved in 9/11. Six years later, thirty-four percent still do. Or look at the health-care debate: At a recent town hall meeting in South Carolina, a man stood up and told his congressman to "keep your government hands off my Medicare," which is kind of like driving cross-country to protest highways.

This country is like a college chick after two Long Island iced teas: We can be talked into anything, like wars, and we can be talked out of anything, like health care. We should forget the town halls, and replace them with study halls.

Listen to some of these stats: ~ Bill Maher
Failed Government quotes by Bill Maher
When nothing goes my way, when all attempts fail, when the darkest clouds in the sky seem bent on hovering over me while everyone with whom I come into contact flashes a nasty scowl, I find some comfort in the thought of a fresh tomorrow. I am thankful for the opportunity to try again. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
