I've determined the ideal job for me is one where I can write clever essays about my life and my employer will give me enough money not only to live a comfortable existence, but also to buy many, many new pairs of shoes. ~ Jen Lancaster
Employer quotes by Jen Lancaster
Take free money. No matter how in debt you are, if your employer offers a matching contribution on a 401(k) or other retirement vehicle, you must sign up and contribute enough to get the maximum company match each year. Think of it as a bonus. ~ Suze Orman
Employer quotes by Suze Orman
Everybody feels better about himself, his community, and his country if employers are paying workers well. Economics, though, teaches that if every employer is pressured to raise wages, some labor will be priced out of the market. ~ Edmund Phelps
Employer quotes by Edmund Phelps
The ways by which you may get money almost without exception lead downward. To have done anything by which you earned money merely is to have been truly idle or worse. If the laborer gets no more than the wages which his employer pays him, he is cheated, he cheats himself. If you would get money as a writer or lecturer, you must be popular, which is to go down perpendicularly. Those services which the community will most readily pay for, it is most disagreeable to render. You are paid for being something less than a man. The State does not commonly reward a genius any more wisely. Even the poet laureate would rather not have to celebrate the accidents of royalty. He must be bribed with a pipe of wine; and perhaps another poet is called away from his muse to gauge that very pipe. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Employer quotes by Henry David Thoreau
That the government's power under the Taft-Hartley Act to stop a strike by injunction so clearly strengthens the hand of the employer-even though it is used only when a strike threatens
the national health, welfare, or safety-is a grave blemish and explains much of union resistance to the Act. ~ Peter Drucker
Employer quotes by Peter Drucker
If you were your own employer, would you be entirely satisfied with the day's work you have done today? ~ Napoleon Hill
Employer quotes by Napoleon Hill
Why? So you can still qualify for assistance? Your family is gaming the system?"

"No." Diana had always hated when people said this about her family. The bosses who made her dad list a payroll company as his employer, they gamed the system. The assholes who convinced her parents to take out both a second mortgage and a HELOC in 2006 gamed the system. The employers who would never give Edith enough hours for benefits gamed the system. But ask a lot of people, and they'd tell you it's people like her grandma who game the system. They'd tell you that an old woman who's worked hard every day of her life and still struggles to get by is a malignant vacuum for their personal tax dollars, and a blight on their lives as free Americans. "We're just trying to live. ~ J. Ryan Stradal
Employer quotes by J. Ryan Stradal
It can feel like an invasion of privacy, involving an employer in a personal matter. ~ Frank Murphy
Employer quotes by Frank Murphy
For heaven's sakes, every parent in America is checking social media and every employer is as well, but our government can't do it. ~ Carly Fiorina
Employer quotes by Carly Fiorina
God is the one great employer, thinker, planner, supervisor. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Employer quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
The employer generally gets the employees he deserves. ~ J. Paul Getty
Employer quotes by J. Paul Getty
Most fast-food workers can't easily join a union, because they don't work directly for their parent company, such as McDonald's or Subway. Instead, they work for individual franchise owners, ensuring that each individual fast-food outlet would have to organize and win union recognition separately. So there's not one central employer to bargain with, as in a traditional union campaign. ~ David Rolf
Employer quotes by David Rolf
I'm not a natural employer. I live very privately, and we like our privacy at home. To be sitting and talking with your wife or your family and to have somebody walking around and you're ignoring them, I couldn't handle that at all. I can barely handle a cleaning lady coming in every so often. ~ Jim Carter
Employer quotes by Jim Carter
Mac," she shot over her shoulder, "one more thing, and if you tell Rowena I told you, I'll lie. But you need to know. There are no males among us. Never have been. Whatever your employer is, he's not one of us." I ~ Karen Marie Moning
Employer quotes by Karen Marie Moning
The worst employer is the one who vents his frustrations on his employees. ~ Haresh Sippy
Employer quotes by Haresh Sippy
The typical family of four with employer-based health insurance is not the same as the typical family of four. It's better-off. ~ Timothy Noah
Employer quotes by Timothy Noah
The minimum wage law very cleverly is misnamed. The real minimum wage is zero. That is what many inexperienced and low skilled people receive as a result of legislation that makes it illegal to pay them what they are currently worth to an employer. ~ Thomas Sowell
Employer quotes by Thomas Sowell
We are unsettled to the very roots of our being. There isn't a human relation, whether of parent and child, husband and wife, worker and employer, that doesn't move in a strange direction. We don't know how to behave when personal contact and eternal authority have disappeared. There are no precedents to guide us, no wisdom that wasn't made for a simpler age. We have changed our environment faster than we can change ourselves. ~ Walter Lippmann
Employer quotes by Walter Lippmann
My only goal was to make the largest profit possible for my employer. I was caught in a spiral that - with the support of my bosses - continued to lead up and up. ~ Jerome Kerviel
Employer quotes by Jerome Kerviel
..a disability is something within you. A prejudice is something within the
employer.

..don't look at yourself through their eyes. Look at yourself through your own eyes. ~ Richard N. Bolles
Employer quotes by Richard N. Bolles
It the Senator can find in Title VII any language which provides that an employer will have to hire on the basis of percentage or quota related to color, race, religion, or national origin, I will start eating the pages one after another, because it is not in there. ~ Hubert H. Humphrey
Employer quotes by Hubert H. Humphrey
CORNELIA: -Sit down. Don't leave the table.
GRACE: -Is that an order?
CORNELIA: -I don't give orders to you, I make requests.
GRACE: -Sometimes the requests of an employer are hard to distinguish from orders. [She sits down] ~ Tennessee Williams
Employer quotes by Tennessee Williams
I like to joke that Inhofe is as far left as I'll go for an employer. ~ Marc Morano
Employer quotes by Marc Morano
Minimum wage laws tragically generate unemployment, especially among the poorest and least skilled or educated workers ... Because a minimum wage, of course, does not guarantee any worker's employment; it only prohibits, by force of law, anyone from being hired at the wage which would pay his employer to hire him. ~ Murray Rothbard
Employer quotes by Murray Rothbard
What good does it do a black youth to know that an employer must pay him $2 an hour if the fact that he must be paid that amount is what keeps him from getting a job? ~ Paul A. Samuelson
Employer quotes by Paul A. Samuelson
An Atheist is a person who questions every kind of authority, and this is the thing that is important. Because if we can, without blinking an eye, question the ultimate authority, god - who must be obeyed, then we can question the authority of the state, we can question the authority of a university structure, we can question the authority of our employer, we can question anything. So I think the primary thing that an Atheist is, is a person who looks at an authoritarian idea, or an authority structure, and says to that authority structure: from whence do you derive your authority and why should I be obedient to you? It appears to me that if I have human intelligence that this is enough for me to try to challenge whatever you're doing. ~ Madalyn Murray O'Hair
Employer quotes by Madalyn Murray O'Hair
accommodate, within reason, the religious practices of workers and applicants unless they impose an "undue hardship" on the business. It is the latest in a line of Supreme Court cases that have elevated religious rights over secular interests, whether exercised by powerful corporations, government agencies or prison inmates. The majority opinion by Justice Antonin Scalia stressed two points that outline the role religion can have in the workplace. Employers must do more than handle religious practices in the same way they do secular ones, he wrote, because federal law gives faith-related expression "favored treatment, affirmatively obligating employers" to accommodate things they could otherwise refuse. Moreover, he wrote, an applicant or employee alleging religious discrimination doesn't have to prove the employer was motivated by bias. ~ Anonymous
Employer quotes by Anonymous
The only consequence of their (employee) silence is that the blind (employer) lead the blind. ~ Margaret Heffernan
Employer quotes by Margaret Heffernan
I didn't say he wasn't a good employer, just that he's not going to be awarded a Sane Person of the Year award. ~ Katie MacAlister
Employer quotes by Katie MacAlister
60% of workers surveyed said if their employer took action to support the mental wellbeing of all staff, they would feel more loyal, motivated, committed and be likely to recommend their workplace as a good place to work. ~ Paul Farmer
Employer quotes by Paul Farmer
Economy consists in a due and proper application of the means afforded according to the ability of the employer and the situation chosen; care being taken that the expenditure is prudently conducted. ~ Vitruvius
Employer quotes by Vitruvius
Nonetheless, GAO's conclusion that employer sanctions had somehow caused employment discrimination was contradicted by GAO's own Chief of Methodology, who criticized the GAO report ... here is what she said, 'I believe the truth is that we have no strong causal link between IRCA and discrimination, and in [my] view it is just as likely that the discrimination we found has always been there, or that it is spurious, as that IRCA has caused it.' ~ Alan K. Simpson
Employer quotes by Alan K. Simpson
The concern right now is that families are paying for insurance, or getting insurance from their employer and trusting that health care will be available for their families. In too many instances now, the care they need isn't available. ~ Debbie Stabenow
Employer quotes by Debbie Stabenow
The #1 guideline to success is you must be in business for yourself. When you work for someone else, you sell your time at wholesale to your employer, who then re-sells it at retail to the customer. ~ J. Paul Getty
Employer quotes by J. Paul Getty
The battle to find a workplace that's wheelchair accessible is a feat in itself, let alone an employer who's going to be cool about employing someone with a disability in a job you actually want to do. ~ Stella Young
Employer quotes by Stella Young
What sort of signal does a college diploma send to a potential employer? That its holder is willing and able to complete all sorts of drawn-out, convoluted tasks - and, ~ Steven D. Levitt
Employer quotes by Steven D. Levitt
Employers are at their happiest on Mondays. Employees are at their happiest on Fridays. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Employer quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Are you not compelled to work for an employer? Your need compels you just as the highwayman's gun. You must live ... You can't work for yourself ... The factories, machinery, and tools belong to the employing class, so you must hire yourself out to that class in order to work and live. Whatever you work at, whoever your employer may be, it always comes to the same: you must workfor him. You can't help yourself. You are compelled. ~ Alexander Berkman
Employer quotes by Alexander Berkman
We should strengthen our immigration laws to prevent the importation of foreign wages and working conditions. We should make it illegal for employers to lay off Americans and then fill their jobs by bringing in workers from overseas. Any U.S. employer who wishes to hire from abroad - even for temporary jobs - should have to recruit U.S. workers first. And we should end the unskilled immigration that competes with young Americans just entering the job market. ~ Edward Kennedy
Employer quotes by Edward Kennedy
I don't think there are huge divergences between my personality and what they see on TV. And I think that's why I have been gainfully employed doing this. I'll always deliver what an employer wants. ~ Keith Olbermann
Employer quotes by Keith Olbermann
Bad answers for employment questions:
Employer: I see here that you worked for the state for three years. Why did you leave that job?
My parole was granted ~ Neil Leckman
Employer quotes by Neil Leckman
You don't have to call me ma'am," I told him, wrapping my arms around myself some more as I entered the dining room.

His eyebrows lifted, eyeing me carefully. "You are in a relationship with Maxwell Alexander Emerson, are you not?"

"I am."

"Well, it just so happens Mr. Emerson is my employer and as such, so are you, hence the title 'ma'am', just as I call Mr. Uhler 'sir.'"

"You know about that."

"I was not aware it was a secret, and if it were, the lot of you are very poor at keeping it." He snickered ~ Amelia LeFay
Employer quotes by Amelia LeFay
My employer uses twenty-six years of my life for every year I get to keep. And what do I get in return for the enormous thing I am giving? What do I get in return for my life? ~ Michael Ventura
Employer quotes by Michael Ventura
What every employer is looking for is not someone who can do the job, but someone who can reinvent the job. ~ Thomas Friedman
Employer quotes by Thomas Friedman
The office' is a cemetery of dreams. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Employer quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
We started the company out of frustration with the employer that we had because we were building great stuff and there was no way that this stuff was ever going to get into the hands of the people who could use it. ~ John Warnock
Employer quotes by John Warnock
The primary rule of business success is loyalty to your employer. That's all right as a theory. What is the matter with loyalty to yourself? ~ Mark Twain
Employer quotes by Mark Twain
If an employer had to pay a man one dollar for the same work a woman could do for 59 cents, why would anyone hire a man? ~ Warren Farrell
Employer quotes by Warren Farrell
I came from a family where joining a union was the expected thing to do. I've always believed that the relationship between an employer and an individual worker is fundamentally unequal. ~ Frances O'Grady
Employer quotes by Frances O'Grady
The accumulation of great wealth is, in many instances, the effect of paying too little for the labor that produced it, the consequence of which is that the working people perish in old age and the employer abounds in affluence. ~ Thomas Paine
Employer quotes by Thomas Paine
I know you're used to dishing out the orders and having everyone bend to your will, but I'm not your employer or your minion, Scarlett. I was buried deep inside you not twelve hours ago, and you know as well as I do that it wasn't a casual fuck for either of us. ~ Kristen Proby
Employer quotes by Kristen Proby
I believe that knowing when to leave one's employer is a critical success factor in building a career, assuming that the logic behind one's decision makes some sense. ~ Catherine Fredman
Employer quotes by Catherine Fredman
At all times it is a bewildering thing to the poor weaver to see his employer removing from house to house, each one grander than the last, till he ends in building one more magnificent than all, or withdraws his money from the concern, or sells his mill, to buy an estate in the country, while all the time the weaver, who thinks he and his fellows are the real makers of this wealth, is struggling on for bread for his children, through the vicissitudes of lowered wages, short hours, fewer hands employed, etc. And when he knows trade is bad, and could understand (at least partially) that there are not buyers enough in the market to purchase the goods already made, and consequently that there is no demand for more; when he would bear and endure much without complaining, could he also see that his employers were bearing their share; he is, I say, bewildered and (to use his own word) "aggravated" to see that all goes on just as usual with the millowners. Large houses are still occupied, while spinners' and weavers' cottages stand empty, because the families that once filled them are obliged to live in rooms or cellars. Carriages still roll along the streets, concerts are still crowded by subscribers, the shops for expensive luxuries still find daily customers, while the workman loiters away his unemployed time in watching these things, and thinking of the pale, uncomplaining wife at home, and the wailing children asking in vain for enough of food--of the sinking health, of the dyi ~ Elizabeth Gaskell
Employer quotes by Elizabeth Gaskell
Employees leave where they work. Employers live where they work. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Employer quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Social honour recognises no distinction between the employer and the unemployed. All of them work for a common purpose and are entitled to equal honour and respect. ~ Adolf Hitler
Employer quotes by Adolf Hitler
First, the very idea that there should be any serious kind of health insurance for Americans (beyond tiny elites) simply did not have much reality until World War II - and it was (again) the war that gave it reality. With wartime labor scarce, wage-price controls were enacted to keep bidding wars in check. Corporations, unable to offer more pay, tried to compete with benefits instead. The modern idea of widespread employer-provided health insurance developed as a strategy to attract wartime workers, and continued in many industries after the war, especially during the boom era. ~ Gar Alperovitz
Employer quotes by Gar Alperovitz
I think it is a wise course for laborers to unite to defend their interests ... I think the employer who declines to deal with organized labor and to recognize it as a proper element in the settlement of wage controversies is behind the times ... Of course, when organized labor permits itself to sympathize with violent methods or undue duress, it is not entitled to our sympathy. ~ William Howard Taft
Employer quotes by William Howard Taft
By day I taught Sahjara, who brought me unceasing small presents ranging from orange flower cakes to bouquets of jolly red berries; by night, I imagined my employer making the sort of inappropriate advances which would have made most governesses flee the estate forthwith, and in graphic detail, complete with bare thighs and calloused fingers and the diagonal notches which rest so sweetly above the hipbones when a gentleman is in training, as I had no doubt whatsoever Mr. Thornfield was. ~ Lyndsay Faye
Employer quotes by Lyndsay Faye
Do any of us actually want to live in a world where your boss can decide that he or she is morally opposed to mental health care? What if your employer was morally opposed to getting x-rays or antibiotics? How about just being forced to disclose your private medical information to your employer? ~ Richard Carmona
Employer quotes by Richard Carmona
NELL. Because that's what an employer is going to have doubts about with a lady as I needn't tell you, whether she's got the guts to push through to a closing situation. They think we're too nice. They think we listen to the buyer's doubts. They think we consider his needs and his feelings. ~ Caryl Churchill
Employer quotes by Caryl Churchill
When a player knows he is a slave he'll never give his employer his heart. ~ Jerzy Dudek
Employer quotes by Jerzy Dudek
Don't organize for any other purpose than mutual benefit to the employer and the employee. ~ Mark Hanna
Employer quotes by Mark Hanna
Life's too short to be an asshole, as an employer or as an employee. ~ Louis C.K.
Employer quotes by Louis C.K.
We hold that an employer is vicariously liable for actionable discrimination caused by a supervisor, but subject to an affirmative defense looking to the reasonableness of the employer's conduct as well as that of a plaintiff victim. ~ David Souter
Employer quotes by David Souter
It's my father's legacy. My father's view was that the public is the employer of these government employees and has the right to know what they're up to. ~ Jack Anderson
Employer quotes by Jack Anderson
The man who attracts attention is the man who is thinking all the time, and expressing himself in little ways. It is not the man who tries to dazzle his employer by doing the theatrical, the spectacular. ~ Charles M. Schwab
Employer quotes by Charles M. Schwab
Most people like to read about intrigue and spies. I hope to provide a metaphor for the average reader's daily life. Most of us live in a slightly conspiratorial relationship with our employer and perhaps with our marriage. ~ John Le Carre
Employer quotes by John Le Carre
I only wanted to be a good employee who generated as much profit as possible for his employer. I was merely a small cog in the machine - and now I'm suddenly supposedly the main person responsible for the financial crisis. ~ Jerome Kerviel
Employer quotes by Jerome Kerviel
A gardener is asked to plant five rows of cherry trees with four trees in each row. His employer gives him exactly enough money to buy twenty trees from the local nursery, and jokingly tells him that he can keep whatever change there is. On the way to the nursery, the gardener realizes that it if he buys just ten trees, it will still be possible to plant five rows with four trees in each, and he can keep half the money he has been given. How does he plan to plant the trees? ~ Peter Keyne
Employer quotes by Peter Keyne
If you have health insurance, then you don't have to do anything. If you've got health insurance through your employer, you can keep your health insurance, keep your choice of doctor, keep your plan. ~ Barack Obama
Employer quotes by Barack Obama
The virtues prized in free countries are honesty, self-discipline, a sense of responsibility to one's family, a sense of loyalty to one's employer and staff, and a pride in the quality of one's work. And these virtues only flourish in a climate of freedom. ~ Margaret Thatcher
Employer quotes by Margaret Thatcher
A job interview is a competition won by those who are qualified the most, and, those who are willing to be payed the least. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Employer quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
As for my own business, even that kind of surveying which I could do with most satisfaction my employers do not want. They would prefer that I should do my work coarsely and not too well, ay, not well enough. When I observe that there are different ways of surveying, my employer commonly asks which will give him the most land, not which is most correct. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Employer quotes by Henry David Thoreau
So high do these plants stand in the favour of the Chinese gardener, that he will cultivate them extensively, even against the wishes of his employer; and, in many instances, rather leave his situation than give up the growth of his favourite flower. ~ Robert Fortune
Employer quotes by Robert Fortune
I really think if you have a tattoo you have to wonder about what kind of future you have ahead of you. As an employer, I wouldn't employ someone with tattoos as I would wonder what customers would think about them. For me, tattoos are just a way for people to find attention who haven't found another way in their life to achieve it by conventional means. ~ Katie Hopkins
Employer quotes by Katie Hopkins
The way you personally communicate is 90 per cent of how you will be evaluated by any future employer. ~ Kate Reardon
Employer quotes by Kate Reardon
This mobility [changing jobs and housing three times in 30 months in New York City] was made possible by a buoyant housing and job market, ensuring a low transaction cost of changing jobs and location. By contrast, in Paris (where we came from), housing mobility was hampered by 2-year leases that could not be broken without penalties. Additionally, job mobility was frowned on as a sign of instability-- changing jobs three times in 30 months would have resulted in a resume that raised a lot of eyebrows.

When-- after just 6 months with my first employer in New York-- I found a job that was a better fit with my long-term interests, I was terribly embarrassed by the prospect of telling my employer that I was quitting. My colleagues at work reassured me that this was done all the time in New York, and that a higher salary was a very honorable reason to change jobs. Indeed, my employer gave me a good luck party when I quit!

This is mobility. A flexible labor market, an open housing market-- the flophouse [urban housing] with its low standards but very low rent was essential to getting us started-- and a transport system that is fast, affordable, and extensive enough to allow individuals to look for jobs in an entire metropolitan area rather than just in limited locations. ~ Alain Bertaud
Employer quotes by Alain Bertaud
My name is Parker Black. I sometimes work as BlackDawn. My employer is Titan, and my training is from both the Marines and MIT." "I know." "But you don't know what that means. I will kill to protect you. I will hunt what follows you," he said through clenched teeth. "I will seek out anything that has its sights on you, and I will destroy it. I'm not a muscle hound with a hard-on for electronics. I'm a mercenary for the good guys, an analyst of life-and-death situations, and I will, I swear to Christ, maim, harm, and kill anything that wants what I care about. ~ Cristin Harber
Employer quotes by Cristin Harber
If the laborer gets no more than the wages which his employer pays him, he is cheated, he cheats himself. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Employer quotes by Henry David Thoreau
When your government, employer, landlord, merchant, banker and local sports team gang up to picture, digitize and permanently record your every activity, you are placed under unprecedented control. ~ William Safire
Employer quotes by William Safire
In meditation, you are moving closer and closer to yourself, and you begin to understand yourself so much more clearly. You begin to see clearly without a conceptual analysis, because with regular practice, you see what you do over and over and over and over again. You see that you replay the same tapes over and over and over in your mind. The name of the partner might be different, the employer might be different, but the themes are somewhat repetitious. Meditation helps us to clearly see ourselves and the habitual patterns that limit our life. ~ Pema Chodron
Employer quotes by Pema Chodron
Inviting someone to work for pay is a sacred privilege and a trust. It must be regarded a high honor to be able to give another person work, and neither employer nor employee should abuse this relationship ~ Judy Frankel
Employer quotes by Judy Frankel
Before and after emancipation, the Negro, in self-defense, was propelled toward the white employer. The endowments of wealthy white men have developed great institutions of learning for the Negro, but the freedom of action on the part of these same universities has been curtailed in proportion as they are indebted to white philanthropies. ~ W.E.B. Du Bois
Employer quotes by W.E.B. Du Bois
I am a member of the Societe Meteorologique de France and of the American Meteorological Society. As a Professor of Climatology, my employer is the French Republic, which has adopted the official religion of 'climate change', to which I do not adhere. I am not beholden to any 'slush fund'. and my Laboratoire de Climatologie, Risques, Environnement (LORE), ~ Marcel Leroux
Employer quotes by Marcel Leroux
The intelligent employer encourages challenge, questioning
not blind acceptance and "our Leader knows best" acclaim. ~ Mary Barnett Gilson
Employer quotes by Mary Barnett Gilson
I want to level the playing field for people who want to purchase health insurance as individuals, and that means eliminating the exemption for employer-sponsored health care. ~ Adam Hasner
Employer quotes by Adam Hasner
By mandating an even higher minimum, the living wage prices even more people out of work. The people who push these cockamamie ideas never seem to ask why any employer would hire someone at $8.23 if that person's services are only valued in the marketplace at, say, $5.00. ~ Lawrence Reed
Employer quotes by Lawrence Reed
Our latest research shows that in every city across the United States in which we conducted surveys with restaurant workers, the restaurants that mistreated their workers were more likely to engage in unsafe food-handling practices that sicken customers. It made sense- if a restaurant was not a responsible employer, how could we expect that restaurant to be responsible with our health and safety? ~ Sarumathi Jayaraman
Employer quotes by Sarumathi Jayaraman
The general tendency towards an eight-hour working day has undoubtedly been healthful, and it is wise for the State to set a good example as an employer of labor, both as to the number of hours of labor exacted and as to paying a just and reasonable wage. ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Employer quotes by Theodore Roosevelt
I thought I should call a matchmaker.

For me, this seemed like a radical step. It never occurred to me to hire a matchmaker when I was younger because I always believed I'd meet a man on my own. He'd be sitting next to me on an airplane, waiting in line behind me at the dry cleaner, working in the same office attending the same party, hanging out at the same coffeehouse.

It seemed ridiculous now, when I thought about the odds of this happening. After all, we don't subject other important aspects of out lives to pure chance. When you want to get a job you don't just hang out in the lobbies of office buildings, hoping an employer will strike up a conversation with you. When you want to buy a house, you don't walk aimlessly from neighborhood to neighborhood on your own, hoping to spot a house that happens to be for sale, matches your personal taste and contains the appropriate number of bedrooms and bathrooms. That's too random. If that's your only method of house hunting, you might end up homeless. So you hire a real estate broker to show you the potential homes that meet your needs. By the same token, why not hire a matchmaker to show you potential partners? ~ Lori Gottlieb
Employer quotes by Lori Gottlieb
Job tip: If you were the employer, what kind of person would you most desire as an employee? Be that person. ~ Ziad K. Abdelnour
Employer quotes by Ziad K. Abdelnour
I learned that God was an equal opportunity employer - that it was possible to experience the divine anywhere you were, anywhere you could see the sun and moon rise or set, or burn through the fog. ~ Anne Lamott
Employer quotes by Anne Lamott
An editor doesn't just read, he reads well, and reading well is a creative, powerful act. The ancients knew this and it frightened them. Mesopotamian society, for instance, did not want great reading from its scribes, only great writing. Scribes had to submit to a curious ruse: they had to downplay their reading skills lest they antagonize their employer. The Attic poet Menander wrote: "those who can read see twice as well." Ancient autocrats did not want their subjects to see that well. Order relied on obedience, not knowledge and reflection. So even though he was paid to read as much as write messages, the scribe's title cautiously referred to writing alone (scribere = "to write"); and the symbol for Nisaba, the Mesopotamian goddess of scribes, was not a tablet but a stylus. In his excellent book A History of Reading, Alberto Manguel writes, "It was safer for a scribe to be seen not as one who interpreted information, but who merely recorded it for the public good."
In their fear of readers, ancients understood something we have forgotten about the magnitude of readership. Reading breeds the power of an independent mind. When we read well, we are thinking hard for ourselves - this is the essence of freedom. It is also the essence of editing. Editors are scribes liberated to not simply record and disseminate information, but think hard about it, interpret, and ultimately, influence it. ~ Susan Bell
Employer quotes by Susan Bell
It was always intended, though, that where Australian workers could negotiate better benefits as well with their employer, that those benefits come in in addition to the existing paid parental leave scheme. ~ Chris Bowen
Employer quotes by Chris Bowen
In our day, a vast majority of people is dependent either on an employer or the government-or both. One way to rate your level of independence might be to measure how long you can survive, feed your family and live in your home after your employer stops paying you anything. ~ Oliver DeMille
Employer quotes by Oliver DeMille
Wealth was the power to set things and people in motion; and in America, therefore, wealth came to be frankly regarded as the breath of God, the divine spirit immanent in man. God was the supreme Boss, the universal Employer. ~ Olaf Stapledon
Employer quotes by Olaf Stapledon
Unless the concepts of work and play and reward for work change absolutely, women must continue to provide cheap labor, and even more, free labor exacted of right by an employer possessed of a contract for life, made out in his favor. ~ Germaine Greer
Employer quotes by Germaine Greer
I believe in an America where the rights that I have described are enjoyed by all, regardless of their race or their creed or their national origin - where every citizen is free to think and speak as he pleases and write and worship as he pleases - and where every citizen is free to vote as he pleases, without instructions from anyone, his employer, the union leader or his clergyman. ~ John F. Kennedy
Employer quotes by John F. Kennedy
They taught me in the Army to make plans based upon the other guy's capabilities, and not based upon his stated intentions. And an employer is capable of firing you at any time. ~ Stephen Morrill
Employer quotes by Stephen Morrill
Stay, Sophie. Looking at you makes me feel better." Cody shot a more energetic grin at his employer and friend.

"Why?" she asked.

"You're hot, babe." Cody shot a wicked smirk at his boss.

"Cody, find your own hot woman to drool over." A war of looks began between the two men, half sneers and mockingly threatening scowls.

"Can't. Stuck in this damn bed. So I'll borrow yours. ~ Lauren Smith
