The law discovers the disease, and the gospel the physician. ~ Thomas Boston
Echelman Boston quotes by Thomas Boston
Those who first introduced compulsory education into American life knew exactly why children should go to school and learn to read: to save their souls ... Consistent with this goal, the first book written and printed for children in America was titled Spiritual Milk for Boston Babes in either England, drawn from the Breasts of both Testaments for their Souls' Nourishment. ~ Dorothy H Cohen
Echelman Boston quotes by Dorothy H Cohen
William Lloyd Garrison was up there with Frederick Douglass being thrown off trains and going through what happened in the 1960s in 1840 in Boston. ~ Rand Paul
Echelman Boston quotes by Rand Paul
He'd woken up after flying from Boston to Montana to find his da cooking breakfast for them: sausage and pancakes shaped like deer. It wasn't just any deer, either - they looked like Bambi from the disney cartoon. Charles didn't want to know how his father had managed that ~ Patricia Briggs
Echelman Boston quotes by Patricia Briggs
My phone dings and before I can pick it up, it dings several more times. I catch sly grins and snickers in my direction from my 'friends' and I just know that this can not be good. I check my phone to find that there's several updates on Facebook. Oh, no.

[Bradley Patrick is marrier to Colleen Frasier Patrick)]

[Bradely Patrick likes Colleen Frasier Patrick's status]

My eyes grown wide and I see that all of my 'friends' like my status. But I haven't been on Facebook since we left Boston. What the fuck? And why has my name changed!

[Colleen Frasier Patrick is having lunch with 'the hubs' Bradley Patrick]

Who hacked my Facebook account? I glare around at each of them. I can't tell who did it. They all look guilty. I try to log into my account, but the password has been changed. Who changed my password? I know I'm screaming but I can't stop myself. They all burst out laughing. ~ J.C. Emery
Echelman Boston quotes by J.C. Emery
I'm certainly aware of the fans. I'm always hoping that what I'm doing is something they'll like, because I do appreciate them. But, no, when I get into the studio, it's all about what I like. It's the same thing that led me to the possibility of making that first Boston album, which was to divorce myself from all other influences. ~ Tom Scholz
Echelman Boston quotes by Tom Scholz
...if you come across someone sad and you do not try to make them smile, then you have disgraced your own humanity. ~ Adriana Mather
Echelman Boston quotes by Adriana Mather
Once I began to hear and pay attention to my fledgling ideas, the biggest hurdle was to learn how to respect them. That was hard, because the real way to respect an idea is to invest the attention and work needed to develop it. ~ Janet Echelman
Echelman Boston quotes by Janet Echelman
He'd chased Vasquez for nine days now. Someone had warned the programmer just before Cooper got to the Boston walk-up, a brick rectangle where the only light had been a window onto an airshaft and the glowing red eyes of power indicators on computers and routers and surge protectors. The desk chair had been against the far wall as if someone had leaped out of it, and steam still rose from an abandoned bowl of ramen. ~ Marcus Sakey
Echelman Boston quotes by Marcus Sakey
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and seasonally lived in New Orleans and Boston. Given that this was all at a tender age, I imagine I was very impressionable. I was a kid that was always moving, city to city, school to school. I adapted easily wherever I was, I knew how to blend. ~ Aeriel Miranda
Echelman Boston quotes by Aeriel Miranda
Boston fans - and New York fans are the same - it doesn't matter what you do outside of baseball, they don't forgive or forget that you play in pinstripes and they don't care about your interests off the field. ~ Bronson Arroyo
Echelman Boston quotes by Bronson Arroyo
Faith is the soul going out of itself for all its wants. ~ Thomas Boston
Echelman Boston quotes by Thomas Boston
If a child from an Amazonian hunter-gatherer tribe comes to Boston, is raised in Boston, that child will be indistinguishable in language capacities from my children growing up here, and vice versa. ~ Noam Chomsky
Echelman Boston quotes by Noam Chomsky
Some certain significance lurk in all things, else all things are little worth, and the round world itself but an empty cipher except to sell by the cartload, as they do hills about Boston, to fill up some morass in the Milky Way. ~ Herman Melville
Echelman Boston quotes by Herman Melville
I schooled in the Boston area. ~ Teju Cole
Echelman Boston quotes by Teju Cole
We ran an up-tempo, transition-style of game at Boston College - very similar to what we ran when I played for Arnold. ~ Bob Cousy
Echelman Boston quotes by Bob Cousy
My dad was all about music. He was a musician, leading a band when I was born. His band was active all through the 40s. He'd started it in the late 20s and 30s. According to the scrapbook, his band was doing quite well around the Boston area. During the Depression they were on radio. It was a jazz-oriented band. He was a trumpet player, and he wrote and arranged for the band. He taught me how to play the piano and read music, and taught me what he knew of standard tunes and so forth. It was a fantastic way to come up in music. ~ Chick Corea
Echelman Boston quotes by Chick Corea
Somehow in the middle of the L.A. trendiness, Boston conservation, New York chic and San Francisco intellectual mellow, there's a place where everything meets. ~ Frederick Lenz
Echelman Boston quotes by Frederick Lenz
I think we should all live on the precipe of life, as fully and as dangerously as possible. Everyone should make the assumption that they're going through life only once. Tomorrow we die. Why not take chances, extend yourself? How awful it is when a person comes to the end of life full of regret. ~ Edward Albee
Echelman Boston quotes by Edward Albee
Major General Leonard Wood

Leonard Wood was an army officer and physician, born October 9, 1860 in Winchester, New Hampshire. His first assignment was in 1886 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he fought in the last campaign against the fierce Apache warrior Geronimo. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for carrying dispatches 100 miles through hostile territory and was promoted to the rank of Captain, commanding a detachment of the 8th Infantry.

From 1887 to 1898, he served as a medical officer in a number of positions, the last of which was as the personal physician to President William McKinley. In 1898 at the beginning of the war with Spain, he was given command of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry. The regiment was soon to be known as the "Rough Riders." Wood lead his men on the famous charge up San Juan Hill and was given a field promotion to brigadier general.

In 1898 he was appointed the Military Governor of Santiago de Cuba. In 1920, as a retired Major General, Wood ran as the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States, losing to Warren Harding. In 1921 following his defeat, General Wood accepted the post of Governor General of the Philippines. He held this position from 1921 to 1927, when he died of a brain tumor in Boston, on 7 August 1927, at 66 years of age after which he was buried, with full honors, in Arlington National Cemetery. ~ Hank Bracker
Echelman Boston quotes by Hank Bracker
I was nearly fired from my second job, which was writing press releases for Boston's public television station. ~ Elinor Lipman
Echelman Boston quotes by Elinor Lipman
The next Augustan age will dawn on the other side of the Atlantic. There will, perhaps, be a Thucydides at Boston, a Xenophon at New York, and, in time, a Virgil at Mexico, and a Newton at Peru. At last, some curious traveler from Lima will visit England and give a description of the ruins of St Paul s, like the editions of Balbec and Palmyra. ~ Horace Walpole
Echelman Boston quotes by Horace Walpole
The NRA was laying down its weapons. Yankee fans were rooting for the Boston Red Sox. The French were eating English food and loving it. Matthew was sure all those things were happening.... This was the proverbial cold day in hell, and Matthew was living it. ~ James Grippando
Echelman Boston quotes by James Grippando
Hometown Aerosmith fans are different from other Aerosmith fans, and that mainly has to do with Joe Perry. It's tough to overstate his strange grip on the local psyche. Tyler is a star who belongs to the whole world, but Perry, that dude belongs to Boston. ~ Rob Sheffield
Echelman Boston quotes by Rob Sheffield
Travel by air is not travel at all, but simply a change of location; so my wife and daughter and I went to San Francisco by train, leaving Boston on a Wednesday morning in June and, then after lunch in New York, boarding Amtrak's Broadway to Chicago. ~ Andre Dubus
Echelman Boston quotes by Andre Dubus
Did you know you always refer to Eliza and Kitty as 'the girls?' I think it's endearing, but also reveals your true feelings." Nathaniel's smile bent upward. "Eliza has captured your heart. You can't deny it." Thomas glared at his friend who only grinned in return. "You know," Nathaniel said, an impressive seriousness knitting his voice. "They don't have to leave. They could stay right here with you. What life do they have for them in Boston? They've no family, nothing to entice them away from you." "They have more than you think," Thomas shot back. "Besides, in the end, Eliza may decide she'll marry Samuel after all." "Don't fool yourself." Nathaniel leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees. "I've seen the way Eliza looks at you, and her eyes are not those of a woman longing for home, let alone another man." Thomas exhaled, his shoulders dropping as he did. "I've told you, I will not water the garden of affection. ~ Amber Lynn Perry
Echelman Boston quotes by Amber Lynn Perry
Irony tyrannizes us. All US irony is based on an implicit 'I don't really mean what I'm saying. ~ David Foster Wallace
Echelman Boston quotes by David Foster Wallace
I moved back to Boston and joined some of my Harvard classmates at Bain & Co. I quickly realized I enjoyed business. ~ Kenneth Chenault
Echelman Boston quotes by Kenneth Chenault
Perhaps that wasn't the brightest parenting decision that I've made in the last ten years." -- (From TRADING MANNY, on letting my 7-year old son emulate Manny Ramirez) ~ Jim Gullo
Echelman Boston quotes by Jim Gullo
we are stronger today than we ever have been. We are united. And we are moving forward through this thing one step at a time. Patriots Day now has a new level of significance; Patriots Day 2013 showed the world that they can never kill our Spirit. ~ Ife Oshun
Echelman Boston quotes by Ife Oshun
There was little of the religious idealism or of the search for personal freedom that motivated the Pilgrims in 1620 and none of the search to create a "City on a Hill" that spurred the Puritans to take ships for Boston in 1630. To these financial backers, the settlement of Virginia was primarily about trade and money. ~ Kieran Doherty
Echelman Boston quotes by Kieran Doherty
Let us settle ourselves, and work and wedge our feet downwards through the mud and slush of opinion and tradition, and pride and prejudice, appearance and delusion, through the alluvium which covers the globe, through poetry and philosophy and religion, through church and state, through Paris and London, through New York and Boston and Concord, till we come to a hard bottom that rocks in place which we can call reality and say, This is and no mistake. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Echelman Boston quotes by Henry David Thoreau
I fell in love with Boston, so hopefully, I'll be here for a long time. ~ Johnny Damon
Echelman Boston quotes by Johnny Damon
He had made up his mind he wouldn't give in - not even to the
Feelers. He understood how desperate people were, how much they
wanted to live, but after what he had witnessed in Boston he was sure
only a few had a chance at survival. He vowed to be one of them."

Michael Meeske
"Feelers ~ Michael Meeske
Echelman Boston quotes by Michael Meeske
Sometimes I felt that there was something physical connecting us, a long rope that stretched between Boston and Portland: when she tugged on her end, I felt it on mine. Wherever she went, wherever I went, there it would be, that shining twined string that stretched and pulled but never broke, our every movement reminding us of what we would never have again. ~ Hanya Yanagihara
Echelman Boston quotes by Hanya Yanagihara
The idea of the camp was to use it as a staging area for soldiers on their way to liberate France. It was much better than putting them in Boston in case the Germans attacked. Allied soldiers from several countries left from Camp Myles Standish to go to England and then on to France. They would only stay for a week or two. One group would go out, and another group would come in. At that camp we were doing everything, all the maintenance. There was a small hospital with nurses and doctors, and we were busy. I worked in the PX. We sold coca-cola, and Narragansett beer was delivered once a month. Cigarettes were five dollars a carton. There was plenty of food. We were glad when they gave us American uniforms; that meant we were something. We had work, and we were doing something good. When Italy got out of the war, and we signed to cooperate, that felt pretty good. ~ Deborah L. Halliday
Echelman Boston quotes by Deborah L. Halliday
The believer is sensible of his infirmities, for it is supposed that he is wrestling under them. He sees, he feels, that he is not man enough for his work; that his own hands are not sufficient for him, nor his own back for his burden; this is what drives him out of himself to the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And thus he lies open to the help of the Spirit, while proud nature in unbelievers is left helpless. ~ Thomas Boston
