Memory, instead of being a duplicate, always present before one's eyes, of the various events of one's life, is rather a void from which at odd moments a chance resemblance enables ones to resuscitate dead recollections, but even then, there are innumerable little details which have not fallen into that potential reservoir of memory, and which will remain for ever unverifiable. ~ Marcel Proust
Duplicate quotes by Marcel Proust
Mom had just gotten back from Sydney, and she had brought me an immense, surpassingly blue butterfly, Papilio ulysses, mounted in a frame filled with cotton. I would hold it close to my face, so close I couldn't see anything but that blue. It would fill me with a feeling, a feeling I later tried to duplicate with alcohol and finally found again with Clare, a feeling of unity, oblivion, mindlessness in the best sense of the word. ~ Audrey Niffenegger
Duplicate quotes by Audrey Niffenegger
It was said that one of them, either the actor or the history teacher, was superfluous in this world, but you weren't, you weren't superfluous, there is no duplicate of you to come and replace you at your mother's side, you were unique, just as every ordinary person is unique, truly unique. ~ Jose Saramago
Duplicate quotes by Jose Saramago
In Friendster's wake, a throng of social networking sites blossomed in San Francisco attempting to duplicate its appeal. Each tackled the idea of connecting people in a slightly different way. One was Tickle, a service which, on observing Friendster's broad-based appeal, altered its own service, which had previously been based on self-administered quizzes and tests. Two of the other new social sites - LinkedIn and Tribe.net - were founded by friends of Abrams. ~ David Kirkpatrick
Duplicate quotes by David Kirkpatrick
The shades of difference between other people and me serve to make variety and prevent monotony, but that is all; broadly speaking, we are all alike; and so by studying myself carefully and comparing myself with other people, and noting the divergences, I have been enabled to acquire a knowledge of the human race which I perceive is more accurate and more comprehensive than that which has been acquired and revealed by any other member of our species. As a result, my private and concealed opinion of myself is not of a complimentary sort. It follows that my estimate of the human race is the duplicate of my estimate of myself. ~ Mark Twain
Duplicate quotes by Mark Twain
Definitely just growing up in general influenced me; Detroit happened to be where I was. I feel like the city definitely has made an impact on my life and made me who I am. Detroit has an unmistakable soul - nobody can duplicate the soul we bring to the game. From Motown to J Dilla to Eminem to anything. ~ Big Sean
Duplicate quotes by Big Sean
Our government, taxes, and ideas of freedom are already duplicates of the Old World. Our politicians determine how we should live our lives - and our individual liberties are sacrificed for the benefit of the Fatherland. ~ Harry Browne
Duplicate quotes by Harry Browne
A tiger's DNA is also a 'duplicate me' program but it contains an almost fantastically large digression as an essential part of the efficient execution of its fundamental message. That digression is a tiger, complete with fangs, claws, running muscles, stalking and pouncing instincts. The tiger's DNA says, 'Duplicate me by the round-about route of building a tiger first.' At the same time, antelope DNA says, 'Duplicate me by the round-about route of building an antelope first, complete with long legs and fast muscles, complete with timorous instincts and finely honed sense organs tuned to the danger from tigers. ~ Richard Dawkins
Duplicate quotes by Richard Dawkins
I think that the exactitude of the photograph has a sort of compelling nature based in its power to duplicate life. But to me the real power of photography is based in death: the fact that somehow it can enliven that which is not there in a kind of stultifying frightened way, because it seems to me that part of one's life is made up of a constant confrontation with one's own death. ~ Barbara Kruger
Duplicate quotes by Barbara Kruger
The law is not known, since there is nothing in it to know. We come across it only through its action, and it acts only through its sentence and its execution. It is not distinguishable from the application. We know it only through its imprint on our heart and our flesh: we are guilty, necessarily guilty. Guilt is like the moral thread which duplicates the thread of time. ~ Gilles Deleuze
Duplicate quotes by Gilles Deleuze
This lesser world is all about reproduction, as you might well know. Those who cease to duplicate simply die. ~ Rawi Hage
Duplicate quotes by Rawi Hage
We need science education to produce scientists, but we need it equally to create literacy in the public. Man has a fundamental urge to comprehend the world about him, and science gives today the only world picture which we can consider as valid. It gives an understanding of the inside of the atom and of the whole universe, or the peculiar properties of the chemical substances and of the manner in which genes duplicate in biology. An educated layman can, of course, not contribute to science, but can enjoy and participate in many scientific discoveries which as constantly made. Such participation was quite common in the 19th century, but has unhappily declined. Literacy in science will enrich a person's life. ~ Hans Bethe
Duplicate quotes by Hans Bethe
Certainly she no longer thinks of the future, because every day the future proves itself to be a duplicate of the present. So instead she roots through the past. ~ David R. Gillham
Duplicate quotes by David R. Gillham
Bullialdus wrote that all force respecting ye Sun as its center & depending on matter must be reciprocally in a duplicate ratio of ye distance from ye center. ~ Isaac Newton
Duplicate quotes by Isaac Newton
'Wolf Hall' attempts to duplicate not the historian's chronology but the way memory works: in leaps, loops, flashes. ~ Hilary Mantel
Duplicate quotes by Hilary Mantel
Your still searching for me in every woman. You'll always seek to duplicate what we had. You know it. ~ Woody Allen
Duplicate quotes by Woody Allen
Beside himself with shame and despair, the utterly ruined though perfectly just Mr. Golyadkin dashed headlong away, wherever fate might lead him; but with every step he took, with every thud of his foot on the granite of the pavement, there leapt up as though out of the earth a Mr. Golyadkin precisely the same, perfectly alike, and of a revolting depravity of heart. And all these precisely similar Golyadkins set to running after one another as soon as they appeared, and stretched in a long chain like a file of geese, hobbling after the real Mr. Golyadkin, so there was nowhere to escape from these duplicates - so that Mr. Golyadkin, who was in every way deserving of compassion, was breathless with terror; so that at last a terrible multitude of duplicates had sprung into being; so that the whole town was obstructed at last by duplicate Golyadkins, and the police officer, seeing such a breach of decorum, was obliged to seize all these duplicates by the collar and to put them into the watch-house, which happened to be beside him . . . Numb and chill with horror, our hero woke up, and numb and chill with horror felt that his waking state was hardly more cheerful . . . It was oppressive and harrowing . . . He was overcome by such anguish that it seemed as though some one were gnawing at his heart. ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Duplicate quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
I can go into a restaurant; I might have to go a few times, taste something, love it and figure out exactly what is in there, and go home and duplicate it. ~ Tamala Jones
Duplicate quotes by Tamala Jones
Do you remember why you started playing?"
"Why does anybody play? ... Are you a musician?"
"Yes. ... Yes, I am."
... "Then you know why I play."
... "Because your spirit has to sing. Every musician's heart bears a song from the Creator, and he spends his life trying to duplicate it as an act of worship. ~ Bryan Davis
Duplicate quotes by Bryan Davis
No daycare center can duplicate a mother. ~ J. Budziszewski
Duplicate quotes by J. Budziszewski
So, the next film won't necessarily be modern-day Albany, Georgia but we're grateful for the films we've made (with Sherwood). The church is an amazing church. We're gonna grow as filmmakers and invest in the next generation of upcoming filmmakers and try to duplicate what we're doing. ~ Alex Kendrick
Duplicate quotes by Alex Kendrick
I cant duplicate my own successes, because part of the creation of that effect is making something happen that you didn't expect ~ Brian Eno
Duplicate quotes by Brian Eno
Healing is a biological process, not an art. It is as much a function of the living organism as respiration, digestion, circulation, excretion, cell proliferation, or nerve activity. It is a ceaseless process, as constant as the turning of the earth on its axis. Man can neither duplicate nor imitate nor provide a substitute for the process. All schools of healing are frauds. ~ Herbert M. Shelton
Duplicate quotes by Herbert M. Shelton
By furnishing this already crowded world with a duplicate one of images, photography makes us feel that the world is more available than it really is. ~ Susan Sontag
Duplicate quotes by Susan Sontag
The mathematician of to-day admits that he can neither square the circle, duplicate the cube or trisect the angle. May not our mechanicians, in like manner, be ultimately forced to admit that aerial flight is one of that great class of problems with which men can never cope ... I do not claim that this is a necessary conclusion from any past experience. But I do think that success must await progress of a different kind from that of invention. ~ Simon Newcomb
Duplicate quotes by Simon Newcomb
Better and better, man. Would now St. Paul would come along that way, and to my breezelessness bring his breeze! O Nature, and O soul of man! how far beyond all utterance are your linked analogies; not the smallest atom stirs or lives on matter, but has its cunning duplicate in mind. ~ Herman Melville
Duplicate quotes by Herman Melville
A woman's moral influence is nowhere more powerfully felt or more beneficially employed than in the home. There is no better setting for rearing the rising generation than the traditional family, where a father and a mother work in harmony to provide for, teach, and nurture their children. Where this ideal does not exist, people strive to duplicate its benefits as best they can in their particular circumstances. ~ D. Todd Christofferson
Duplicate quotes by D. Todd Christofferson
To duplicate meanings is to isolate the consciousness. ~ Floriano Martins
Duplicate quotes by Floriano Martins
The counsel on public relations is not an advertising man but he advocates for advertising where that is indicated. Very often he is called in by an advertising agency to supplement its work on behalf of a client. His work and that of the advertising agency do not conflict with or duplicate each other. ~ Edward Bernays
Duplicate quotes by Edward Bernays
There is a definite difference between live shows and the recordings. The recordings are for all time, hopefully, so you do want to bring across layers of subtlety. But the live show is this primal experience that everybody's having at the same time, that the recording can at best try to imitate or duplicate. ~ Will Sheff
Duplicate quotes by Will Sheff
It does not make sense that everybody should duplicate efforts when we could be working together. ~ Theresa May
Duplicate quotes by Theresa May
What's the problem you solve? Solve it for one person. Create a system to do it without you. Duplicate. ~ T. Harv Eker
Duplicate quotes by T. Harv Eker
He has one hand over her mound and works his fingers as if he was playing guitar, making beautiful music with her tiny button. He serenades her with a love song that only his fingers know how to pick- a tune that no man can duplicate. ~ Jane Emery
Duplicate quotes by Jane Emery
Knowledge passes from dance teacher into the student through the process of mane, which is often translated as imitation, but learning to dance is more a process of total identification than of simple copying. We repeat the movements of our teachers until we can duplicate them exactly, until, in a sense, we have absorbed the teacher's mastery into ourselves. Artistic technique must be fully integrated into the cells of our bodies if we are to use it to express what is in our hearts, and this takes many years of practice. ~ Mineko Iwasaki
Duplicate quotes by Mineko Iwasaki
When you have made a catalogue of your friend's faults it is only fair to supply him with a duplicate, so that he may know yours. ~ Ambrose Bierce
Duplicate quotes by Ambrose Bierce
We're plotting to steal time itself from you ... We're going to spike it to the floor as it slips by. And just as you come over to see why it's so still, we'll pull it out from under you
and send you spinning off around the galaxy's edge. We're planning to pluck all the best stars out of the sky and stuff them in our pockets ... so that when we meet you once again and thrust our hands deep inside to hide our embarrassment, our fingertips will smart on them, as if they were desert grains, caught down in the seams, and we'll smile at you on your way to a glory that, for all our stellar thefts, we shall never be able to duplicate. ~ Samuel R. Delany
Duplicate quotes by Samuel R. Delany
I'd rather duplicate it myself. Another of our favourite techniques. ~ Stewart Copeland
Duplicate quotes by Stewart Copeland
Now and then, I had moments of greatness, but I never knew how to duplicate it consistently. ~ Ian Williams
Duplicate quotes by Ian Williams
Last night somebody broke into my apartment and replaced everything with exact duplicates ... When I pointed it out to my roommate, he said, Do I know you? ~ Steven Wright
Duplicate quotes by Steven Wright
The way I photograph ... in many ways it's directed by chance and all my mistakes, which are often the best stuff. I found that no matter if it's the same tape, the same TV, and the same camera, I can never duplicate an image ... your arm jiggles, there's just too much chance. And I never put it on pause, or use any of that fancy equipment. ~ John Waters
Duplicate quotes by John Waters
To ABDUCE (ABDU'CE) v.a.[Lat. abduco.]To draw to a different part; to withdraw one part from another.A word chiefly used in physic or science. And if we abduce the eye unto either corner, the object will not duplicate; for, in that position, the axis of the cones remain in the same plain, as is demonstrated in the optics delivered by Galen.Brown'sVulgar Errours,b. iii. c. 20. ~ Samuel Johnson
Duplicate quotes by Samuel Johnson
I write in the mornings, two or three hours every day, and then at least four times a week I play in a duplicate game at a bridge club. I try to go to tournaments three, four, or five times a year. ~ Louis Sachar
Duplicate quotes by Louis Sachar
While no one railroad can completely duplicate another line, two or more may compete at particular points. ~ John Moody
Duplicate quotes by John Moody
When you make machines that are capable of obeying instructions slavishly, and among those instructions are 'duplicate me' instructions, then of course the system is wide open to exploitation by parasites. ~ Richard Dawkins
Duplicate quotes by Richard Dawkins
He had only three days off, which meant our honeymoon was only two days. We went to Lake Tahoe, and one of the highlights was a snowmobile tour in the mountains. In theory, we had to ride our separate vehicles very placidly, with no horsing around. But Chris-or maybe it was me-discovered that by maneuvering carefully, it was possible to splash up a lot of snow, and as we went up to the top we managed to cover each other with snow. It was the sort of simple joy you vow to repeat as often as you can, even as you realize the moment will be impossible to duplicate.
They were a great two days, though I wished there were more.

I happened to be reading a book around that time that theorized that humans live through many lives. I asked Chris what he thought about the concept. Did he think he had many past lives?
"Oh, I don't know," he said. "That's not in the Bible."
"No, it's not."
"I guess anything's possible," he told me after a little thought. "I don't think we have all the answers. But I do know this: if we get more than one life, I can't wait to spend the rest of them with you. ~ Taya Kyle
Duplicate quotes by Taya Kyle
Work is not slavery, then. Work is creativity. It is the expression of ourselves that no one else can duplicate. ~ Joan D. Chittister
Duplicate quotes by Joan D. Chittister
A lot of TV people buy more than one of an item, in case they spot or stain it, but I don't like buying duplicates - it's wasteful. ~ Martha Stewart
Duplicate quotes by Martha Stewart
Those who are born immortal instinctively know how to cope with it, but Wowbagger was not one of them. Indeed he had come to hate them, the load of serene bastards. He had had his immortality thrust upon him by an unfortunate accident with an irrational particle accelerator, a liquid lunch and a pair of rubber bands. The precise details of the accident are not important because no one has ever managed to duplicate the exact circumstances under which it happened, and many people have ended up looking very silly, or dead, or both, trying. ~ Douglas Adams
Duplicate quotes by Douglas Adams
Clearly, invisibility is a property that arises at the atomic level, via Maxwell's equations, and hence would be exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, to duplicate using ordinary means. To make Harry Potter invisible, one would have to liquefy him, boil him to create steam, crystallize him, heat him again, and then cool him, all of which would be quite difficult to accomplish, even for a wizard. ~ Michio Kaku
Duplicate quotes by Michio Kaku
Many have came before you and many will come after you, but none will ever be you. Some may even try to duplicate your characteristics, but they'll never succeed because you are unique. ~ Amaka Imani Nkosazana
Duplicate quotes by Amaka Imani Nkosazana
A brick is a duplicate. It is a physical copy of the idea for a brick. And what's the big idea? A brick represents unity, a notion of hey, let's build something together. Like a house, for example. And after you help me build my house, I'll use a leftover brick and smash you over the skull so that not only will I not have to pay you for your labor, but I won't have to pay the butcher for meat, because with your sturdy body, I'm sure I'll have enough food to feed my family for a year. ~ Jarod Kintz
Duplicate quotes by Jarod Kintz
Wal-Mart's success strategies and tactics are easy to understand yet hard to duplicate. ~ Michael Bergdahl
Duplicate quotes by Michael Bergdahl
They can say whatever they want to say, but it is going to be hard, my friend, to duplicate me. ~ Sammy Sosa
Duplicate quotes by Sammy Sosa
Homunculi are bogeymen only if they duplicate entire the talents they are rung in to explain. If one can get a team or committee of relatively ignorant, narrow-minded, blind homunculi to produce the intelligent behaviour of the whole, this is progress. ~ Daniel Dennett
Duplicate quotes by Daniel Dennett
What we're looking at is God's design, nature's template, and using that as a pattern to cut around and lay it down on a domestic model to duplicate that pattern that we see in nature. ~ Joel Salatin
Duplicate quotes by Joel Salatin
Do you want to be crazy, radical, insanely different than everybody else and do something few people have the courage to do? Then try being yourself and walk a mile or two in your own shoes. Stop trying to be something you are not. Stop trying to emulate someone else. Trust me ... they are probably just copying another person they think is cool. No one else will ever be able to duplicate how perfectly you personify yourself. Here is your chance to amaze the world with how different you can be. ~ H.L. Stephens
Duplicate quotes by H.L. Stephens
Satan can imitate God, but he cannot duplicate Him - God is the only One who can deliver us from our pain and suffering. ~ David Jeremiah
Duplicate quotes by David Jeremiah
Families share relationships based not only blood, but also the unique affiliation of a terribly long cord when measured in comparison with any other undertaking in a person's life, from cradle to the grave if you will. These intimate associations create a bond of love, affection, goodwill, and joy that we seek to duplicate when we marry and begin creating our extended families. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Duplicate quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
How can you gain a full understanding of a subject when you don't understand the words used to explain it?
Well, that's why words are the biggest hidden barrier to understanding that almost everyone completely overlooks.
Simply put, if you have misunderstandings about the words being used to communicate specific concepts, you will not duplicate the communications exactly - you will reach your own distorted conclusions due to misinterpretation. ~ Michael Matthews
Duplicate quotes by Michael Matthews
To be loved by someone is to realize how much they share the same needs that lie at the heart of our own attraction to them. Albert Camus suggested that we fall in love with people because, from the outside, they look so whole, physically whole and emotionally 'together' - when subjectively we feel dispersed and confused. We would not love if there were no lack within us, but we are offended by the discovery of a similar lack in the other. Expecting to find the answer, we find only the duplicate of our own problem. ~ Alain De Botton
Duplicate quotes by Alain De Botton
Memory is never a precise duplicate of the original… it is a continuing act of creation. Dream images are the product of that creation. ~ Rosalind D. Cartwright
Duplicate quotes by Rosalind D. Cartwright
Orchestra had a little brass ensemble on two tracks as well, but the rest was me. I knew I couldn't continue in this direction, even if people liked it, because I can only duplicate myself. ~ Eberhard Weber
Duplicate quotes by Eberhard Weber
Conservatives, please. Let's not duplicate the manias of the Left as we figure out how to deal with Mr. Obama. He is not exactly the anti-Christ, although a disturbing number of people on the Right are convinced he is. ~ David Horowitz
Duplicate quotes by David Horowitz
Most writers begin with accounts of their first home, their family, and the town, often from quite a hostile point of view-love/hate, let's say. In a way, this stepping outside, in an attempt to judge enough to create a duplicate of it, makes you an outsider ... I think it's healthy for a writer to feel like an outsider. If you feel like an insider you get committed to a partisan view, you begin to defend interests, so you wind up not really empathizing with all mankind. ~ John Updike
Duplicate quotes by John Updike
In regards to The Haunting, people compared it to the old movie, which is unfair. We didn't have the rights to the movie. I couldn't duplicate a single thing because that would have been legal infringement. ~ Jan De Bont
Duplicate quotes by Jan De Bont
Nothing can duplicate the sheer power and feeling you get from standing in front of your amp and bashing on your guitar. ~ James Hetfield
Duplicate quotes by James Hetfield
Also, it's risky to try to duplicate earlier success. Magician had a certain charm to it, mostly due to my choice of lead characters, that I would be hard put to duplicate. ~ Raymond E. Feist
Duplicate quotes by Raymond E. Feist
For people who are depressed, and especially for those who do not receive enough benefit from medication of for whom the side effects of antidepressants are troubling, the fact that placebos can duplicate much of the effects of antidepressants should be taken as good news. It means that there are other ways of alleviating depression. As we have seen, treatments like psychotherapy and physical exercise are at least as effective as antidepressant drugs and more effective than placebos. In particular, CBT has been shown to lower the risk of relapsing into depression for years after treatment has ended, making it particularly cost effective. ~ Irving Kirsch
Duplicate quotes by Irving Kirsch
What a strange revelation of self-esteem it is when people only love those who think and feel as they do - an extension of themselves, in fact! Even Christianity does not cure us, since one cannot feel right without assuming that the rest must be wrong. Personally I would rather feel wrong with everybody else than right all by myself: I like people different, and agree with the man who said that the worst of the human race is the number of duplicates. ~ Freya Stark
Duplicate quotes by Freya Stark
Always be yourself and have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and try to duplicate it. ~ Bruce Lee
Duplicate quotes by Bruce Lee
Sentences are made wonderfully one at a time. Who makes them. Nobody can make them because nobody can what ever they do see.
All this makes sentences so clear I know how I like them.
What is a sentence mostly what is a sentence. With them a sentence is with us about us all about us we will be willing with what a sentence is. A sentence is that they cannot be carefully there is a doubt about it.
The great question is can you think a sentence. What is a sentence. He thought a sentence. Who calls him to come which he did.
... What is a sentence. A sentence is a duplicate. An exact duplicate is depreciated. Why is a duplicated sentence not depreciated. Because it is a witness. No witnesses are without value. ~ Gertrude Stein
Duplicate quotes by Gertrude Stein
was once a young lady from Yale,'" said the Gasmask Man. "'Who had verses tattooed on her tail. And on her behind, for the sake of the blind, a duplicate version in braille. ~ Joe Hill
Duplicate quotes by Joe Hill
She's a pile of nanites working together to duplicate the individual parts of a teenage girl on the cellular level, and they don't realize there's no actual girl left. They rebuilt a working model of a corpse. ~ Peter Clines
Duplicate quotes by Peter Clines
Life is not a miracle. It is a natural phenomenon, and can be expected to appear whenever there is a planet whose conditions duplicate those of the earth.
[Stating how planets supporting life cannot be rare.] ~ Harold Urey
Duplicate quotes by Harold Urey
The discussion about how she was in Arizona stalking her birth mother, whose name she'd gotten on the duplicate birth certificate she'd ordered because she'd lost her original, should really happen in person, but that was impossible right now.
Oh, what a tangled web ... ~ Cat Johnson
Duplicate quotes by Cat Johnson
Being onstage is just a feeling that you cannot duplicate anywhere else because the energy that the audience is giving you forces you to give more energy. It's such an output and exchange of energy. You can't do that anywhere else. ~ Aaron Tveit
Duplicate quotes by Aaron Tveit
Making promises to myself, in my personal writing practice, has been important to me all my life. In practical application it is so much easier for me to make promises to others, and keep them, than it is to make promises to myself. "Why is that?" and the answer I gave myself is that in making promises to others I create a model of accountability and reinforcement. I duplicate that in my writing and have grown increasingly better at making and keeping promises to myself. ~ Mary Anne Radmacher
Duplicate quotes by Mary Anne Radmacher
So they talk about heaven, and I don't know what is waiting for me up there. But I can tell you this: Nothing will happen up there that can duplicate my life down here. Nothing. That life cannot be better than the one I've lived down here, the football life. It's been perfect. ~ Steve Sabol
Duplicate quotes by Steve Sabol
No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal. ~ Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Duplicate quotes by Jacques-Yves Cousteau
A fake is a copy, a duplicate, a facsimile of an original. The professional coach is authentic - the real deal. ~ Michael J. Marx
Duplicate quotes by Michael J. Marx
Years later I saw a film - poignantly sad, and for me unbearably so - about a scientist who had invented a kind of total sense recorder, not just video but audio and smellio and touchio and the rest, which he set to play every afternoon in a given place a given time, for as long as the mechanism lasted. The scene he projected was that of a dozen or so young couples dancing on a terrace in the same holiday house, on the same island, where the recorder itself was kept. Then this young man comes across it while it is playing and at first is convinced he is watching a real occurrence: he sees this beautiful girl, in her slinky 1930s outfit, dancing and laughing and chattering with her friends, and he falls in love with her on the spot. Second day, same time around, he comes to the island at a slightly different time so he sees a slightly different excerpt, and still doesn't twig and falls deeper in love. And so on and so forth for various days until he happens on a duplicate bit and realises something is wrong. But by then, of course, he is irretrievably hooked. So what does he do? He digs out the machine, fiddles with its insides until he has grasped its workings, and then sets it up in recording mode and records himself into the scene in a desperate last-ditch attempt to join the dancers. Which works, and there he stays: trapped there amongst them in a virtual dimension, forever young, forever re-enacting the same little loop of life, over and over. ~ A.P. .

more humorous looks. One I noticed actually had been carved into a bat holding a ghost. Artistic, I thought to myself knowing I would never be able to duplicate that. Greg and I walked through the double ~ Janet McNulty
Duplicate quotes by Janet McNulty
We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Duplicate quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Some think that emulating those we admire makes us more effective and guarantees the result they exhibit. The goal is not to duplicate someone else's greatness or purpose, destiny or creativity. ~ T.D. Jakes
Duplicate quotes by T.D. Jakes
You name it, we had it. It won't happen again. You're not going to duplicate this show. ~ Robert Conrad
Duplicate quotes by Robert Conrad
I haven't spent my time trying to duplicate my success. But only because I haven't had any yet. ~ Jarod Kintz
Duplicate quotes by Jarod Kintz
Virgil Donati is clearly the best drummer to come along in the music scene in quite some time. He is extremely unique and has embraced an original sound that has given him a signature that is unmistakable and impossible to duplicate. ~ Tony MacAlpine
Duplicate quotes by Tony MacAlpine
I got this Christmas gift with the entire Beatles catalog. I had fun trying to duplicate what I was hearing on these records, only using the instruments I had at hand - an acoustic guitar, and that's all. It was endlessly amusing to me to try to imitate John Lennon and Paul McCartney's harmonies using the guitar. ~ M. Ward
Duplicate quotes by M. Ward
Golf is assuredly a mystifying game. It would seem that if a person has hit a golf ball correctly a thousand times, he should be able to duplicate the performance at will. But such is certainly not the case. ~ Bobby Jones
Duplicate quotes by Bobby Jones
In theory, there is nothing the computer can do that the human mind can not do. The computer merely takes a finite amount of data and performs a finite number of operations upon them. The human mind can duplicate the process ~ Isaac Asimov
Duplicate quotes by Isaac Asimov
In reality, mankind is still metaphysically in God's likeness, but
God's image in mankind has been altered by sin. We can no longer
duplicate or reflect God's attitudes as we once could do. That is, we can
no longer be holy as God is holy. Our morality has been altered and no
longer has the capability to duplicate or reflect God's image. So what is
the answer? Can this image be repaired or made whole again? The answer
is, YES! ~ Reid A. Ashbaucher
Duplicate quotes by Reid A. Ashbaucher
Jasper!' said Katie. 'Your machine was supposed to be making duplicate copies of all of the things that were photocopied during the week!'
Yes indeed. And so it did.' He flung open a panel. 'All ingeniously copied and transcribed onto one convenient wax roll, quite easily carried between the three of us.' He hefted one end of the wax roll; it was as big as a carpet. 'Come along. It's a mere two hundred and twenty pounds. Try to keep one hand free for making fists. We may have to bash our way out of here. ~ M T Anderson
Duplicate quotes by M T Anderson
How to duplicate yourself: hang out with the same people and say the same things all the time. The you of today is a clone of the you from yesterday. ~ Jarod Kintz

One of the unique aspects of rowing is that novices strive to perfect the same motions as Olympic contenders. Few other sports can make this claim. In figure skating, for instance, the novice practices only simple moves. After years of training, the skater then proceeds to the jumps and spins that make up an elite skater's program. But the novice rower, from day one, strives to duplicate a motion that he'll still be doing on the day of the Olympic finals. ~ Brad Alan Lewis

Scientology, a fundamentally narcissistic philosophy that demonizes doubt and insecurity as products of the "reactive mind," is a belief system tailor-made for actors. The Training Routines that are part of early Scientology indoctrination have been compared to acting exercises: students are taught to "duplicate," or mirror, a partner's actions; project their "intention," or thoughts, onto inanimate objects; experiment with vocal tones, the most dominant being a commanding bark known as "tone 40"; and deepen their ability to "be in their bodies" without reacting to outside stimuli. In auditing, Scientologists re-create scenes from past lives. Some processes focus directly on members "mocking up," or visualizing themselves, in different scenarios. ~ Janet Reitman

If you're drawing a Western town, you can duplicate that Western town from instinct alone. Some artists may take it from other illustrations or duplicate what you've drawn, but it will never have that gut reality that's instinctive in the artist. ~ Jack Kirby

The more successful enterprises are the more they try to replicate, duplicate, codify what makes us great. And suddenly they're inward thinking. They're thinking how can we continue to do what we've done in the past without understanding that what made them successful is to take risks, to change and to adapt and to be responsive. And so in a sense success breeds its own failure. And I think it's true of a lot of successful businesses. ~ Lou Gerstner

We're at 103,000 feet. Looking out over a very beautiful, beautiful world ... a hostile sky. As you look up the sky looks beautiful but hostile. As you sit here you realize that Man will never conquer space. He will learn to live with it, but he will never conquer it. Can see for over 400 miles. Beneath me I can see the clouds ... They are beautiful ... looking through my mirror the sky is absolutely black. Void of anything ... I can see the beautiful blue of the sky and above that it goes into a deep, deep, dark, indescribable blue which no artist can ever duplicate. It's fantastic. ~ Joseph Kittinger

But love of one kind will never duplicate itself. Love has its variety...which possibly makes it as a great as all the songs and stories and poems. ~ Dan Skinner
