Europe was not born in the early Middle Ages. No common identity in 1000 linked Spain to Russia, Ireland to the Byzantine empire (in what is now the Balkans, Greece and Turkey), except the very weak sense of community that linked Christian polities together. There was no common European culture, and certainly not any Europe-wide economy. There was no sign whatsoever that Europe would, in a still rather distant future, develop economically and militarily, so as to be able to dominate the world. Anyone in 1000 looking for future industrialization would have put bets on the economy of Egypt, not of the Rhineland and Low Countries, and that of Lancashire would have seemed like a joke. In politico-military terms, the far south-east and south-west of Europe, Byzantium and al-Andalus (Muslim Spain), provided the dominant states of the Continent, whereas in western Europe the Carolingian experiment (see below, Chapters 16 and 17) had ended with the break-up of Francia (modern France, Belgium and western Germany), the hegemonic polity for the previous four hundred years. The most coherent western state in 1000, southern England, was tiny. In fact, weak political systems dominated most of the Continent at the end of our period, and the active and aggressive political systems of later on in the Middle Ages were hardly visible.

National identities, too, were not widely prominent in 1000, even if one rejects the association between nationalism and modernity made in much contemp ~ Chris Wickham
Distant Future quotes by Chris Wickham
I think people talk too much; that's the truth of the matter. I do. I don't believe in words. People use too many words and usually wrongly. I am sure that in the distant future people will talk much less and in a more essential way. If people talk a lot less, they will be happier. Don't ask me why. ~ Michelangelo Antonioni
Distant Future quotes by Michelangelo Antonioni
The successful politician owes his power to the fact that he moves within the accepted framework of thought, that he thinks and talks conventionally. It would be almost a contradiction in terms for a politician to be a leader in the field of ideas. His task in a democracy is to find out what the opinions held by the largest number are, not to give currency to new opinions which may become the majority view in some distant future. ~ Friedrich August Von Hayek
Distant Future quotes by Friedrich August Von Hayek
I have to keep hope that maybe one day, in the not so distant future, that I'll be able to simply think about my awful past and it won't make my stomach churn. Hope is all I have creating my pathway for this new journey. ~ Nacole Stayton
Distant Future quotes by Nacole Stayton
I have a dream that in the not-too-distant future, Visy Tumut will spend around $100 m to expand our clean energy generation here and take in additional waste forest wood to generate clean renewable energy and sell it into the power grid. ~ Anthony Pratt
Distant Future quotes by Anthony Pratt
He's rigged a tiny cassette player with a small set of foam earphones to listen to demo tapes and rough mixes. Occasionally he'll hand the device to Mindy, wanting her opinion, and each time, the experience of music pouring directly against her eardrums - hers alone - is a shock that makes her eyes well up; the privacy of it, the way it transforms her surroundings into a golden montage, as if she were looking back on this lark in Africa with Lou from some distant future. ~ Jennifer Egan
Distant Future quotes by Jennifer Egan
A major push is under way to figure out the molecular basis of those "critical" or "sensitive" periods, to figure out how the brain changes as certain learning abilities come and go. In some, if not all, of those mammals that have the alternating stripes in the visual cortex known as ocular dominance columns, those columns can be adjusted early in development, but not in adulthood. A juvenile monkey that has one eye covered for an extended period of time can gradually readjust its brain wiring to favor the open eye; an adult monkey cannot adjust its wiring. At the end of a critical period, a set of sticky sugar-protein hybrids known as proteoglycans condenses into a tight net around the dendrites and cell bodies of some of the relevant neurons, and in so doing those proteoglycans appear to impede axons that would otherwise be wriggling around as part of the process of readjusting the ocular dominance columns; no wriggling, no learning. In a 2002 study with rats, Italian neuroscientist Tommaso Pizzorusso and his colleagues dissolved the excess proteoglycans with an antiproteoglycan enzyme known as "chABC," and in so doing managed to reopen the critical period. After the chABC treatment, even adult rats could recalibrate their ocular dominance columns. ChABC probably won't help us learn second languages anytime soon, but its antiproteoglycan function may have important medical implications in the not-too-distant future. Another 2002 study, also with rats, showed that chABC can ~ Gary F. Marcus
Distant Future quotes by Gary F. Marcus
What I see in the corporate sector is very clearly an issue of a major shortfall in the issue of, what some people call confidence, but whatever you want to call it. Clearly people are looking out in the very distant future and they are saying that it is too complex. ~ Alan Greenspan
Distant Future quotes by Alan Greenspan
What does the future look like? I don't know how to answer this question, but for the bettering of man's future, I would like for a civilization of knowledge to exist on our planet in the not too distant future. ~ Eraldo Banovac
Distant Future quotes by Eraldo Banovac
Huxley's Brave New World is set in an indefinitely distant future: it will not be possible for many years to say that Huxley's apprehensions have not proved justified. It is unlikely that populations will undergo genetic and environmental manipulation in the exact way that Huxley foresaw: there will never be a fixed number of predetermined strata, from Alpha Plus to Epsilon Minus Semi-Morons. But as an Italian scientist prepares to clone humans, and as reproduction grows as divorced from sex as sex is from reproduction, it is increasingly hard to regard Huxley's vision as entirely far-fetched. ~ Theodore Dalrymple
Distant Future quotes by Theodore Dalrymple
Today's warm houses will be the cold ruins in the very distant future! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Distant Future quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
We are the sort of creature who not only needs to put up firewood and food for the winter but who must also predict the distant future, make decisions about who or what created the universe and what sort of principles and path we should follow, deal with our fellow difficult and dangerous creatures, and in other ways make sense of things that would overtax any creature. ~ Eric Maisel
Distant Future quotes by Eric Maisel
They cursed us - not with a common cursory curse, but with long, carefully-thought-out, comprehensive curses, that embraced the whole of our career, and went away into the distant future, and included all our relations, and covered everything connected with us - good, substantial curses. ~ Jerome K. Jerome
Distant Future quotes by Jerome K. Jerome
The next stage of development, perhaps in the distant future, will be a social order under which there will be no need for the coercive power of the state. ~ Yevgeny Zamyatin
Distant Future quotes by Yevgeny Zamyatin
Travel is the art form available to Everyman. You sit in the coffee shop in a strange city and nobody knows who you are, or cares, and so you shed your checkered past and your motley credentials and you face the day unarmed ... And onward we go and some day in the distant future, we will stop and turn around in astonishment to see all the places we've been and the heroes we were. ~ Garrison Keillor
Distant Future quotes by Garrison Keillor
Un(der)known Writers: Flavia Dzodan By The New Inquiry Few words define The Netherlands better than "imperialist". In a time of white appropriations of post colonial theory, few pause to realize that no post colonial analysis is possible while we live in a country where the "post" lays within a distant future (i.e. The Netherlands still holds colonial territories in the Caribbean). ~ Anonymous
Distant Future quotes by Anonymous
In our distant future, a tale of things past... (from Mars Rising) ~ Mark David Major
Distant Future quotes by Mark David Major
I feel strongly, because a man who will himself die one day in the not to distant future and, also, as a psychiatrist who spent decades dealing with death anxiety, that confronting death allows us, not to open some noisome, Pandora's box, but to re-enter life in a richer, more compassionate manner. ~ Irvin D. Yalom
Distant Future quotes by Irvin D. Yalom
I thought about how unlikely it was I would ever meet any guy, fall in love, get married, have babies. Especially since I was going to spend the rest of my life in the cellar, where, in the not too distant future, I'd turn into a toadstool. I hoped I'd be the poisonous variety. ~ Susan Beth Pfeffer
Distant Future quotes by Susan Beth Pfeffer
So far, we have no good answer to this problem. Already thousands of years ago philosophers realised that there is no way to prove conclusively that anyone other than oneself has a mind. Indeed, even in the case of other humans, we just assume they have consciousness – we cannot know that for certain. Perhaps I am the only being in the entire universe who feels anything, and all other humans and animals are just mindless robots? Perhaps I am dreaming, and everyone I meet is just a character in my dream? Perhaps I am trapped inside a virtual world, and all the beings I see are merely simulations?
According to current scientific dogma, everything I experience is the result of electrical activity in my brain, and it should therefore be theoretically feasible to simulate an entire virtual world that I could not possibly distinguish from the 'real' world. Some brain scientists believe that in the not too distant future, we shall actually do such things. Well, maybe it has already been done – to you? For all you know, the year might be 2216 and you are a bored teenager immersed inside a 'virtual world' game that simulates the primitive and exciting world of the early twenty-first century. Once you acknowledge the mere feasibility of this scenario, mathematics leads you to a very scary conclusion: since there is only one real world, whereas the number of potential virtual worlds is infinite, the probability that you happen to inhabit the sole real world is almost zero. ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Distant Future quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
According to Adam One, the Fall of Man was multidimensional. The ancestral primates fell out of the trees; then they fell from vegetarianism into meat-eating. Then they fell from instinct into reason, and thus into technology; from simple signals into complex grammar, and thus into humanity; from firelessness into fire, and thence into weaponry; and from seasonal mating into an incessant sexual twitching. Then they fell from a joyous life in the moment into the anxious contemplation of the vanished past and the distant future. ~ Margaret Atwood
Distant Future quotes by Margaret Atwood
If a person doesn't have the capacity that we all want that person to have, I suspect hope is in the far distant future, if at all. ~ George W. Bush
Distant Future quotes by George W. Bush
lofty dreams in the distant future are a difficult burden to carry. The best goals may be those you can handle in the next week, the next day, the next hour, or the next step; create a process that yields many small successes." "Many ~ Dan Millman
Distant Future quotes by Dan Millman
War, this monster of mutual slaughter among men, will be finally eliminated by the progress of human society, and in the not too distant future too. ~ Mao Zedong
Distant Future quotes by Mao Zedong
To all you sensitive sallys out there who spend your time scribing angry letters, I have great news: Scientific models show that in the not-too-distant future, all the races will become so completely interbred that humanity will have a monolithic caramelish color and common facial features. There won't be blonds or hairy Jews anymore.Words like "Chink" will cease to have meaning. They will be relics, along with those who use them for comedy. Which is exactly why I am past that meta-racist shit and onto poop and pee. Onward and downward! ~ Sarah Silverman
Distant Future quotes by Sarah Silverman
By neglecting our garden, we are storing up for ourselves, in the not very distant future, a world catastrophe as bad as any atomic war, and we are doing it with all the bland complacency of an idiot child chopping up a Rembrandt with a pair of scissors. ~ Gerald Durrell
Distant Future quotes by Gerald Durrell
Focus on the now and the next, not the distant future of maybe and if. Even those of the strongest faith can falter when the eyes focus too far in the distance. ~ Annette Marie
Distant Future quotes by Annette Marie
There is sense in hoping for recognition in a distant future only when we take it for granted that mankind will remain essentially unchanged, and that whatever is great is not for one age only but will be looked upon as great for all time. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Distant Future quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
Sometime in the not too distant future, denying gays the right to marry will be viewed as historically corrupt - as corrupt as denying slaves their freedom. ~ Mark McKinnon
Distant Future quotes by Mark McKinnon
You're so alive, Maise. You're so here, so present in the moment. You've taught me that happiness is possible now, not in some distant future. You'll scale a mountain without a second thought, face your fears, throw yourself into danger, and you're not reckless but bold, proud. You have a lion's heart. You're not afraid to live. ~ Leah Raeder
Distant Future quotes by Leah Raeder
We say that the hour of death cannot be forecast, but when we say this we imagine that hour as placed in an obscure and distant future. It never occurs to us that it has any connection with the day already begun or that death could arrive this same afternoon, this afternoon which is so certain and which has every hour filled in advance. ~ Marcel Proust
Distant Future quotes by Marcel Proust
You know, our ratings after this match will be very close - I think I can also become the world number one in the not too distant future. However, I'm sure that Garry will also have something to say about this! ~ Vladimir Kramnik
Distant Future quotes by Vladimir Kramnik
In the distant future, I don't want to be remembered; I want to remember! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Distant Future quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
Sounded like girls. Mixed feelings on that score. He didn't despise them with the same passion he used to. In fact, Benny suspected that there would come a time in the not-too-distant future when he might develop a mysterious interest in them. ~ Eoin Colfer
Distant Future quotes by Eoin Colfer
Awakening is no longer seen as something to attain in the distant future, for it is not a thing but a process - and this process is the path itself. But neither does this render us in any way perfect or infallible. We are quite capable of subverting this process to the interests of our far-from-extinct desires, ambitions, hatreds, jealousies, and fears. We have not been elevated to the lofty heights of awakening; awakening has been knocked off its pedestal into the turmoil and ambiguity of everyday life. There is nothing particularly religious or spiritual about this path. It encompasses everything we do. It is an authentic way of being in the world. It begins with how we understand the kind of reality we inhabit and the kind of beings we are that inhabit such a reality. Such a vision underpins the values that inform our ideas, the choices we make, the words we utter, the deeds we perform, the work we do. It provides the ethical ground for mindful and focused awareness, which in turn further deepens our understanding of the kind of reality we inhabit and the kind of beings we are that inhabit such a reality. And so on. ~ Stephen Batchelor
Distant Future quotes by Stephen Batchelor
My main purpose in life is to do something useful for my fellow men, not to live my life in vain, to propel mankind forward, if only by a fraction. That is why I became interested in that which gave me neither bread nor power, but I am in hopes that my work, perhaps soon, perhaps only in the distant future, will yield society heaps of grain and vast power. ~ Konstantin Tsiolkovsky
Distant Future quotes by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky
To 'want' something, to 'strive' after something to have an 'aim' or a 'wish' in my mind - I know none of this from experience. Even at this moment I look out upon my future - a distant future! as upon a calm sea: no sigh of longing makes a ripple on its surface. I have not the slightest wish that anything should be otherwise than it is: I do not want myself different than I am. But in this matter I have always been the same. I have never had a desire. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Distant Future quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
Our struggle consists in showing that our nonviolence is neither a cloak to hide our violence or hatred, nor a preparation for violence in the near or distant future. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Distant Future quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
Wise statesmen ... established these great self-evident truths, that when in the distant future some man, some faction, some interest, should set up the doctrine that none but rich men, or none but white men, were entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, their posterity should look up again at the Declaration of Independence and take courage to renew the battle which their fathers began ... ~ Abraham Lincoln
Distant Future quotes by Abraham Lincoln
It is remarkable that those who plead for more cultural diversity in our societies support a process that will eradicate most cultures and that we therefore, in the not so distant future, will live in a world with no cultural diversity at all. ~ Fons Jena
Distant Future quotes by Fons Jena
One way of saving on energy use would be to do away with unnecessary transportation. For instance, people commute between work and home, or travel long distances to engage in business conferences. With the development of improved communications and increasing automation, it will become possible in the not-too-distant future, for people to control and maintain business operations and machinery at a distance. The ~ Isaac Asimov
Distant Future quotes by Isaac Asimov
Instead of seeing the life you want to live in the distant future, just start living the life you want today. It is really that simple, and that challenging. The only one standing in your way is you. ~ John Bruna
Distant Future quotes by John Bruna
Countries who have a longer past are better able see further forward into the future and think about extending the time period that they've already been around into the distant future. ~ Hal Hershfield
Distant Future quotes by Hal Hershfield
There will come a time - in the not-so-distant future - when you will no longer need to make a special trip to see me or anyone else to get "attuned" to this new band of frequencies. Soon you'll be sitting in a theater, on an airplane, or on a bus, and you'll simply pick up this new resonance from the person sitting next to you. ~ Eric Pearl
Distant Future quotes by Eric Pearl
My books nourish my soul. When I open a cover and begin to read, I go to new places, to worlds I never knew existed. I time travel into the past and up into the distant future ~ Ann Hite
Distant Future quotes by Ann Hite
In daily life, you are in the habit of running because you think happiness is impossible in the present. This is a habit that was handed down to you by your ancestors, by your parents. Happiness does not seem possible to you in the here and now, so you look for it in the distant future. The practice consists of stopping that habit of running. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Distant Future quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
Good hunting, Lieutenant."

"Thanks. Hey, you've got a lot of businesses to protect."

He turned in his doorway. "One or two."

"Zillion," she finished. "The point being, you've got fail-safes and contingencies and whatever. Various people who'd do various things when in the dim, distant future, you die at two hundred and six after we have hot shower sex."

"I'd hoped for two hundred and twelve, but yes. ~ J.D. Robb
Distant Future quotes by J.D. Robb
We are wistful about the golden days of the past and dream of a distant future unclouded by necessity. But I suspect that if our inner souls were asked what in life they really missed, the answer would be primal danger and stress. ~ Robert Grudin
Distant Future quotes by Robert Grudin
There are also those who delusively if not enthusiastically surrender their liberty for the mastermind's false promises of human and societal perfectibility. He hooks them with financial bribes in the form of 'entitlements.' And he makes incredible claims about indefectible health, safety, educational, and environmental policies, the success of which is to be measured not in the here and now but in the distant future.
For these reasons and more, some become fanatics for the cause. They take to the streets and, ironically, demand their own demise as they protest against their own self-determination and for ever more autocracy and authoritarianism. When they vote, they vote to enchain not only their fellow citizens but, unwittingly, themselves. Paradoxically, as the utopia metastasizes and the society ossifies, elections become less relevant. More and more decisions are made by the masterminds and their experts, who substitute their self-serving and dogmatic judgments - which are proclaimed righteous and compassionate - for the the individual's self-interests and best interests. ~ Mark R. Levin
Distant Future quotes by Mark R. Levin
Each person's present feelings are determined by a million instant confrontations of previous experineces. A long time period lived under the effects of chemicals, can become 'your true past'. Note that each past was future for it's own past. If you want to leave a stable past to your far distant future, start using the right chemicals in the right way, today. ~ Alper Mazun
Distant Future quotes by Alper Mazun
Perhaps we humans are still in command, and perhaps there really will be a conventional robot war in the not-so-distant future. If so, let's roll. I'm ready. My toaster will never be the boss of me. Get ready to make me some Pop-Tarts, bitch. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Distant Future quotes by Chuck Klosterman
Let's not put our lust of life on the back burner of a distant future, but let's share and walk up to others, listening to the sound of their words, and taking part in the vibrant carrousel of their pursuits. ("Waiting for the smoke signals") ~ Erik Pevernagie
Distant Future quotes by Erik Pevernagie
You say you do not know what God's will is, but I'll tell you what it is. Above all it is that you know Christ and then that your neighbors hear about Christ. That is His will. So often we sit around twiddling our thumbs, dreaming about God's will in some distant future when we are not even willing to stand up on our own two feet, walk down the street, and do God's will right now. ~ John F. MacArthur Jr.
Distant Future quotes by John F. MacArthur Jr.
In order to make a success of old age, one must begin it earlier, and not try to postpone it as long as possible. In the middle of life we must stop to think, to organize our existence with an eye to a still distant future, instead of allowing ourselves to be entirely sucked into the professional and social whirl. It is then that it is important to give place little by little to less external activities, less technical and more cultural, which will survive the moment of retirement. ~ Paul Tournier
Distant Future quotes by Paul Tournier
His discontent stemmed from dislike rather than appreciation for the hardness growing in him, and the fear that in another ten years he would not recognise himself. The fear that in another twenty, he would not even remember that any doubt had disturbed him. And that in some distant future, age and death would find him - the first person in history to utter on his deathbed: I wish I'd spent more time at the office. ~ Roberta Pearce
Distant Future quotes by Roberta Pearce
Our chair will remain empty one day, but our ideas will continue to sit on that chair! However in the very distant future, there will remain neither chair nor ideas! All will disappear! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Distant Future quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
I look forward to a time, in the not so distant future, when we no longer look forward to 'firsts' as milestones women have yet to achieve, but we look back on them as historic events that continue to teach and inspire. ~ Dee Dee Myers
Distant Future quotes by Dee Dee Myers
I believe that the totemic image for the future is the octopus. This is because the squids and octopi have perfected a form of communication that is both psychedelic and telepathic; a model for the human communications of the future. In the not-too-distant future men and women may shed the monkey body to become virtual octopi swimming in a silicon sea. ~ Terence McKenna
Distant Future quotes by Terence McKenna
We are a blessed people and, with God s guidance, our smiles might even become laughter in the not too distant future. ~ John Kufuor
Distant Future quotes by John Kufuor
Human beings are not inevitable, and our brief existence is not preordained to be extended into the distant future. If Homo sapiens is to have a continued presence on earth, humankind will reevaluate its sense of place in the world and modify its strong species-centric stewardship of the planet. Our collective concepts of morality and ethics have a direct impact on our species' ultimate fate. ~ Jeff Schweitzer
Distant Future quotes by Jeff Schweitzer
I am not a man of the present. I am a man who is yet to be born, a thousand years from today. And in that distant future, these limitations of nationality, religion, faith and politics will no longer exist. ~ Shankar Lamichhane
Distant Future quotes by Shankar Lamichhane
As the sun outshines the brightest star in the heavens, dispels every vestige of darkness and gives life and light to all beings, so, in a not too distant future, will the true religion of Christ supersede and obliterate all other religions, to the eternal benefit of mankind. ~ Max Heindel
Distant Future quotes by Max Heindel
Though sometimes when he wakes in the night all he can think about is death. His own death, of course, but also the death of those around him,the fact that one day in the not-too-distant future every person he knows, every single one, will be dead and gone, along with all the people he doesn't know,to be replaced by a crop of strangers who will take over the structures left behind. ~ A.S.A Harrison
Distant Future quotes by A.S.A Harrison
An extrapolation of its present rate of growth reveals that in the not too distant future Physical Review will fill bookshelves at a speed exceeding that of light. This is not forbidden by general relativity since no information is being conveyed. ~ David Mermin
Distant Future quotes by David Mermin
Can anything be more idiotic than certain people who boast of their foresight? They keep themselves officiously preoccupied in order to improve their lives; they spend their lives in organizing their lives. They direct their purposes with an eye to a distant future. But putting things off is the biggest waste of life: it snatches away each day as it comes, and denies us the present by promising the future. The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune's control, and abandoning what lies in yours. What are you looking at? To what goal are you straining? ~ Seneca.
Distant Future quotes by Seneca.
It is sound judgment to hope that in the not too distant future we shall be competent to understand so simple a thing as a star. ~ Arthur Eddington
Distant Future quotes by Arthur Eddington
One does not have to be a 'climate change denier' to see that a degree of skepticism about the present consensus might be in order ... Most likely, now - as in the past - many analysts have become carried away by the results of their models, which purport to look into a far distant future, and have convinced themselves that they must embark on a crusade to enlighten others. ~ Colin Robinson
Distant Future quotes by Colin Robinson
People who succeed tend to find one goal in the distant future and then chase it through thick and thin. People who flit from one interest to another are much, much less likely to excel at any of them. School asks students to be good at a range of subjects, but life asks people to find one passion that they will follow forever. ~ David Brooks
Distant Future quotes by David Brooks
We were alone here. We had always been alone here. When we died and rid ourselves of our meaningless existences, we would die alone, our souls would abandon us for newer, better bodies and we would rot.
Eventually, probably not too far in the distant future, there would be no one left to remember us at all.
And then the world would be alone.
And maybe that was what nature had intended all along... ~ Madeline Sheehan
Distant Future quotes by Madeline Sheehan
Get ready for a smaller world. Soon, your food is going to come from a field much closer to home, and the things you buy will probably come from a factory down the road rather than one on the other side of the world. You will almost certainly drive less and walk more, and that means you will be shopping and working closer to home. Your neighbours and your neighbourhood are about to get a lot more important in the smaller tworld of the none-too-distant-future. ~ Jeff Rubin
Distant Future quotes by Jeff Rubin
Can anything be sillier than the point of view of certain people - I mean those who boast of their foresight? They keep themselves very busily engaged in order that they may be able to live better; they spend life in making ready to live! They form their purposes with a view to the distant future; yet postponement is the greatest waste of life; it deprives them of each day as it comes, it snatches from them the present by promising something hereafter. The greatest hindrance to living is expectancy, which depends upon the morrow and wastes to-day. You dispose of that which lies in the hands of Fortune, you let go that which lies in your own. ~ Seneca.
Distant Future quotes by Seneca.
If we look for love in others without finding it in ourselves, we are like an underdeveloped country at the mercy of industrialised countries. Some may rescue us, providing the resources we lack and creating a tie of dependence, while others may teach us to produce what we need so that in a distant future we may become self-sufficient. Others may refuse to offer support, hating and even fighting us, hence urgently forcing us to find our own resources within. Perhaps one day someone will become aware that we are part of the same planet, and that all resources, including love, belongs to all. ~ Franco Santoro
Distant Future quotes by Franco Santoro
Living each day as it came, rather than projecting some fanciful mirage on the distant future, was becoming a way of life. ~ Jane Hawking
Distant Future quotes by Jane Hawking
We who bore the mark might well be considered by the rest of the world as strange, even as insane and dangerous. We had awoken, or were awakening, and we were striving for an ever perfect state of wakefulness, whereas the ambition and quest for happiness of the others consisted of linking their opinions, ideals, and duties, their life and happiness, ever more closely with those of the herd. They, too, strove; they, too showed signs of strength and greatness. But as we saw it, whereas we marked men represented Nature's determination to create something new, individual, and forward-looking, the others lived in the determination to stay the same. For them mankind
which they loved as much as we did
was a fully formed entity that had to be preserved and protected. For us mankind was a distant future toward which we were all journeying, whose aspect no one knew, whose laws weren't written down anywhere. ~ Hermann Hesse
Distant Future quotes by Hermann Hesse
The government wants to control the banks, just as it now controls GM and Chrysler, and will surely control the health industry in the not-too-distant future. Keeping them TARP-stuffed is the key to control. ~ Stuart Varney
Distant Future quotes by Stuart Varney
How often do you ignore a dream, dismiss it as fantasy and then see echoes of the dream around you the following day? What if a dream were the forewarning of what will become your reality; if you are being told within the world of a dream what may occur in the near or distant future, but your mind mangles the truth and information so much that you discard it as fiction? ~ Samantha Robertson
Distant Future quotes by Samantha Robertson
Hopefully, in not a too distant future, we will see a Latino president, and who knows how's that going to happen. It's just a matter of time. ~ Julian Castro
Distant Future quotes by Julian Castro
Jealousy is a fever that arises from a stupid, baseless excitement in our unthinking brain.
Jealousy is a phenomenon of auto-suggestion.
The woman you love has gone to bed with X. You hate X, you hate her, and you have perpetually before your eyes the vision of your loved one and X embracing in an act that fills you with horror.
But you too in your time have deceived the woman you love and have done with Y what X did in bed with woman you love.
Well, what remains in your skin ,your mind of Mrs Y? Nothing whatever. No more than X left with your woman.
In other words, auto suggestion. Do you want evidence of that? Well, then, if you don't know the man, you imagine him to be hateful, offensive, repulsive, and you feel that if you met him you'd kill him.
But, if you happen to see his photograph, you begin to realize that it's possible to look at him without horror; and believe me, if you were actually introduced to him you'd approach him with a cordial smile on your lips, look him in the eye without trembling and, if you have reached my degree of perfection, you'd actually be capable of cheerfully patting him on the back and telling him he's a good chap.
In a not too distant future, reason and education will have driven home the lesson of the futility of jealousy. ~ Pitigrilli
Distant Future quotes by Pitigrilli
I identify myself in language, but only by losing myself in it like an object. What is realised in my history is not the past definite of what was, since it is no more, or even the present perfect of what has been in what I am, but the future anterior of what I shall have been for what I am in the process of becoming. ~ Jacques Lacan
Distant Future quotes by Jacques Lacan
They say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and I've learnt a great deal, but you can never predict the future, so the best thing is just to do whatever you're asked to do to the best of your ability. ~ Jeremy Hunt
Distant Future quotes by Jeremy Hunt
I don't want to know what the future will be. I want to live it. ~ Elisa Sednaoui
Distant Future quotes by Elisa Sednaoui
I often quote an African proverb that says: "The world is not ours, the earth is not ours, It's a treasure we hold in trust for future generations." And I often hope we will be worthy of that trust. ~ Kofi Annan
Distant Future quotes by Kofi Annan
Let not the jolly be alone in the world, for they shall talk about the future and snag to do the exercises. ~ Auliq Ice

Aim for the moon, but in your way there don't forget to dance with the stars and shine as bright as the sun. ~ Tilicia Haridat
Distant Future quotes by Tilicia Haridat
We have got some very big problems confronting us and let us not make any mistake about it, human history in the future is fraught with tragedy ... It's only through people making a stand against that tragedy and being doggedly optimistic that we are going to win through. If you look at the plight of the human race it could well tip you into despair, so you have to be very strong. ~ Robert James Brown
Distant Future quotes by Robert James Brown
Not all dreamers are winners, but all winners are dreamers. Your dream is the key to your future. The Bible says that, "without a vision (dream), a people perish." You need a dream, if you're going to succeed in anything you do. ~ Mark Gorman
Distant Future quotes by Mark Gorman

Dear Teenage Self,

That guy you're crazy about,
Will ask you out
On a date
In about ten years, so don't fret
You'll get there yet.
But fate is cruel
On that day,
That feeling will have gone away. ~ Joyce Rachelle
Distant Future quotes by Joyce Rachelle

Vision is your first creation of the future. ~ Tobi Delly
Distant Future quotes by Tobi Delly
Attempt to raise the sunken sensations of this distant past; your self will become the stronger for it, your loneliness will open up and become a twilit dwelling in which the noise other people make is only heard far off. And if from this turn inwards, from this submersion in your own world, there come verses, then it will not occur to you to ask anyone whether they are good verses. Nor will you attempt to interest magazines in these bits of work: for in them you will see your beloved natural possessions, a piece, and a voice, of your life. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Distant Future quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke

Distant Future quotes by Katharine Hayhoe
That's one of the things of being an actor. You have to push any knowledge of any future, at all, out of your mind. You never know what's going to happen where. ~ Tracy Spiridakos
