It remains to be seen the extent to which the critical needs of seniors in low income high rises, people with home medical needs and those with disabilities have been adequately planned for and met during widespread power outages. I fear the answers. ~ Sheri Fink
Disabilities quotes by Sheri Fink
I've gained first hand knowledge of the challenges faced by people with disabilities. It's made me understand that those of us who have full use of our physical faculties owe an enormous amount of respect and sensitivity to people who don't. ~ William J. Clinton
Disabilities quotes by William J. Clinton
Near the end of Love's Labor, Eva Feder Kittay (1999, 154) writes that a fundamental aspect of a just society is related to the conditions and limits of mothering. In a just society, women with disabilities can mother because there is adequate emotional and material support for them to do so, and given a context of support and approval to reproduce, they can also choose not to bear children. In a just society, mothers of children with disability can mother, and they, their children, and other needed caregivers will be adequately supported." (15) ~ Cynthia Lewiecki-Wilson And Jen Cellio
Disabilities quotes by Cynthia Lewiecki-Wilson And Jen Cellio
I suspect that every teacher hears the same complaints, but that, being seldom a practicing author, he tends to dismiss them as out of his field, or to see in them evidence that the troubled student has not the true vocation. Yet it is these very pupils who are most obviously gifted who suffer from these disabilities, and the more sensitively organized they are the higher the hazard seems to them. Your embryo journalist or hack writer seldom asks for help of any sort; he is off after agents and editors while his more serious brother-in-arms is suffering the torments of the damned because of his insufficiencies. Yet instruction in writing is oftenest aimed at the oblivious tradesman of fiction, and the troubles of the artist are dismissed or overlooked. ~ Dorothea Brande
Disabilities quotes by Dorothea Brande
Sometimes I wonder if I'm as famous for my wheelchair and disabilities as I am for my discoveries. ~ Stephen Hawking
Disabilities quotes by Stephen Hawking
Disabilities are not Liabilities but true test of abilities ~ Emmanuel Shola Ayeni
Disabilities quotes by Emmanuel Shola Ayeni
Why Does He Do That?
That's the number one question, isn't it? Maybe it's his drinking, you say. Maybe it's his learning disabilities. It's his job; he hates it. He's stressed. I think he's bipolar. It's his mother's fault; she spoiled him rotten. It's the drugs. If only he didn't use. It's his temper. He's selfish. It's the pornography; he's obsessed.
The list could go on and on. You could spend many years trying to pinpoint it and never get a definite answer. The fact is, many people have these problems and they aren't abusive. Just because someone is an alcoholic doesn't mean he is abusive. Men hate their jobs all the time and aren't abusive. Bipolar? Okay. Stressed? Who isn't! Do you see where I am going with this?
Off the subject a bit, when someone commits a violent crime, they always report in the news about his possible motive. As human beings, we need to somehow make sense of things. If someone murders someone, do you think it makes the family of the victim feel better to know the murderer's motive? No. Except for self-defense, there really is no excuse for murder. Motive, if there is any, is irrelevant.
The same is true of abuse. You could spend your whole life going round and round trying to figure out why. The truth is, the why doesn't matter. There are only two reasons why men commit abuse - because they want to do so and because they can.
You want to know why. In many ways, you might feel like you need to know. But, if you could com ~ Beth Praed
Disabilities quotes by Beth Praed
Being deaf is not a weakness or it shouldn't be seen as one and that's what I wanted to get across that day. It's still what I want people to see. It's the same thing with the special needs kids. They are no different than I am, than anyone is really. Just because they might act in ways that 'normal' people don't or experience life in a different way, it doesn't make them wrong or less than anyone else. We're not weak or what's wrong with the world. ~ Melyssa Winchester
Disabilities quotes by Melyssa Winchester
There are those who suffer and grow strong; there are those who suffer and grow weak. This mystery of pain is still for me the saddest of earth's disabilities. ~ Silas Weir Mitchell
Disabilities quotes by Silas Weir Mitchell
Online learning can be a lifeline to those who have obstacles, such as geographical distances or physical disabilities. ~ Paul Levinson
Disabilities quotes by Paul Levinson
You can be sure that I will always consider how changes to Social Security will impact people with disabilities when considering the various proposals offered for reform. ~ Steve Israel
Disabilities quotes by Steve Israel
There are lots of people with mental health disabilities, and that's just the way their life is; it's not like you see it in the movies. ~ Andy Behrman
Disabilities quotes by Andy Behrman
Ah, afflicted one, your disabilities were meant to unite with God's enablings, your weakness to mate His power. God's grace is at hand -sufficent
and at its best when human weakness is most profound. Appropriate it and learn that those who wait on God are stronger in their weakness than the sons of men in their stoutest health and vigor. ~ F.B. Meyer
Disabilities quotes by F.B. Meyer
It's not a disability, it's life. We are complicated creatures with larger matters on our plate than tip calculation. I grew up watching TV with my mother while she diagnosed the characters as having hyperactivity or attention-deficit disorder. I rolled my eyes and wondered why there weren't any stupid kids anymore. Why did there have to be something to explain everyone? Were the cave people on Ritalin? I didn't think so. ~ Sloane Crosley
Disabilities quotes by Sloane Crosley
A good government is one with a duty to help everyone, to maximise his or her potential: Indigenous people, people with disabilities, and our forgotten families. We will not leave anyone behind. ~ Warren Mundine
Disabilities quotes by Warren Mundine
When Donald Trump says a distinguished judge born in Indiana can't do his job because of his Mexican heritage, or he mocks a reporter with disabilities, or calls women pigs, it goes against everything we stand for. ~ Hillary Clinton
Disabilities quotes by Hillary Clinton
We find that other employees are very enthusiastic about their fellow crew members who have disabilities-or what they previously thought of as disabilities. ~ Carl Karcher
Disabilities quotes by Carl Karcher
It's worth knowing more about the complicated environmental and genetic factors that could explain why traumatic brain injuries lead to long-term disabilities in some people and not in others. ~ Anne Wojcicki
Disabilities quotes by Anne Wojcicki
Learning to read music in Braille & play by ear helped me develop a [very] good memory. ~ Ray Charles
Disabilities quotes by Ray Charles
Mimetic theory explains the presence of disabilities and infirmities in a great many mythical stories. When there is no ground for making a victim of someone - because he isn't guilty of anything - people act as children do and make a scapegoat of someone who is physically unattractive, or who is an outsider. The number of outsiders in myths is quite extraordinary. And why are so many victims lame? My work is scientific because it tries to solve the puzzle constituted by these clues, to explain why outsiders, many of them handicapped, are made into victims and forcibly expelled from a community. The burden falls on anyone who doubts my theory to supply a better explanation, or else to adopt mine for want of a more satisfactory one. ~ Rene Girard
Disabilities quotes by Rene Girard
There's a kind of sick security some people get out of keeping away from people with disabilities. They are running away from any situation that's not totally pure and all-American and that requires them to do any thinking. ~ Major Owens
Disabilities quotes by Major Owens
You're not disabled by the disabilities you have, you are able by the abilities you have. ~ Oscar Pistorius
Disabilities quotes by Oscar Pistorius
Disabilities are not inspiration, they are messages that need to be addressed. ~ Marc David O'Brien
Disabilities quotes by Marc David O'Brien
New information and communications technologies can improve the quality of life for people with disabilities, but only if such technologies are designed from the beginning so that everyone can use them. Given the explosive growth in the use of the World Wide Web for publishing, electronic commerce, lifelong learning and the delivery of government services, it is vital that the Web be accessible to everyone. ~ William J. Clinton
Disabilities quotes by William J. Clinton
In fact, sometimes I was sure that the reason people stared at you with your crutches and wheelchair had nothing to do with your disabilities, and everything to do with the fact that you had abilities that they only dreamed of. ~ Jodi Picoult
Disabilities quotes by Jodi Picoult
Entrepreneurs with disabilities are overwhelmingly successful. ~ David Brenner
Disabilities quotes by David Brenner
The only true disability is the inability to accept and respect differences. ~ Tanya Masse
Disabilities quotes by Tanya Masse
Let me be clear - I want all Louisiana citizens to have choice - including the elderly and persons with disabilities - and their families - who rely on the state for their care. ~ Kathleen Blanco
Disabilities quotes by Kathleen Blanco
Learning disabilities cannot be cured, but they can be treated successfully and children with LD can go on to live happy, successful lives. ~ Anne Ford
Disabilities quotes by Anne Ford
Then she told me that the Americans with Disabilities Act was recently interpreted as allowing "people with anxiety disorders to travel with an emotional-support pony on airlines." So basically I could bring a goddamn pony on board with me. I'm pretty sure a pony wouldn't fit under my seat or in my lap, but I rather liked the idea of a small medicinal horse standing in the aisle beside me while I braided his mane. ~ Jenny Lawson
Disabilities quotes by Jenny Lawson
If you are deaf, you need captions for spoken elements. If you are blind, you need voiced descriptions of Web contents and spoken renderings of e-mail. The range of physical disabilities is very large, and we need many different tools to overcome the consequential barriers to Internet use. Let us commit ourselves to truly assuring that the Internet really is for everyone. ~ Vinton Cerf
Disabilities quotes by Vinton Cerf
It's not our disabilities, it's our abilities that count. ~ Chris Burke
Disabilities quotes by Chris Burke
Those who are weak have great difficulty finding their place in our society. The image of the ideal human as powerful and capable disenfranchises the old, the sick, the less-abled. For me, society must, by definition, be inclusive of the needs and gifts of all its members. How can we lay claim to making an open and friendly society where human rights are respected and fostered when, by the values we teach and foster, we systematically exclude segments of our population? I believe that those we most often exclude from the normal life of society, people with disabilities, have profound lessons to teach us. When we do include them, they add richly to our lives and add immensely to our world. ~ Jean Vanier
Disabilities quotes by Jean Vanier
A woman growing up under American ideas of liberty in government and religion, having never blushed behind a Turkish mask, nor pressed her feet in Chinese shoes, cannot brook any disabilities based on sex alone, without a deep feeling of antagonism with the power that creates it. ~ Susan B. Anthony
Disabilities quotes by Susan B. Anthony
I know of other mothers who have children with disabilities, and right away they loved them and decided to fight for them.
That isn't my story. ~ Gillian Marchenko
Disabilities quotes by Gillian Marchenko
Believe me, people with disabilities are just as concerned about benefit fraud as anyone else. Money spent on those who are not in need is money that isn't being spent on vital services to support us in the community. ~ Stella Young
Disabilities quotes by Stella Young
I like how Dallas Willard put it: "We don't believe something by merely saying we believe it," he said, "or even when we believe that we believe it. We believe something when we act as if it were true." So perhaps a better question than "Do I believe in miracles?" is "Am I acting like I do?" Am I including the people who are typically excluded? Am I feeding the hungry and caring for the sick? Am I holding the hands of the homeless and offering help to addicts? Am I working to break down religious and political barriers that marginalize ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities and people with disabilities? Am I behaving as though life is more than a meaningless, chaotic mess, that there is some order in the storm? ~ Rachel Held Evans
Disabilities quotes by Rachel Held Evans
If I could snap my fingers and be nonautistic, I would not. Autism is part of what I am. ~ Temple Grandin
Disabilities quotes by Temple Grandin
Despite our founding principles and the many ways our constitution has protected individual liberties, we do, let's admit it, have a long history of shutting people out
african americans, women, gays and lesbians, people with disabilities
and throughout our history, we have found too many ways to divide and exclude people from their ownership of the law and protection under the law. ~ Hillary Clinton
Disabilities quotes by Hillary Clinton
To give the short version, I've learnt that every human being, with or without disabilities, needs to strive to do their best, and by striving for happiness you will arrive at happiness. For us, you see, having autism is normal
so we can't know for sure what your 'normal' is even like. But so long as we can learn to love ourselves, I'm not sure how much it matters whether we're normal or austitic. ~ Naoki Higashida
Disabilities quotes by Naoki Higashida
Unless they have disabilities to cope with, no family should get more from living on benefits than the average family gets from going out to work. No more open-ended chequebook. ~ George Osborne
Disabilities quotes by George Osborne
Respectfully, the civil rights movement for people with disabilities is modeled on the African American civil rights movement. I'm old enough to remember 1964. I was a junior in high school. ~ Robert David Hall
Disabilities quotes by Robert David Hall
For the rest of his life, he realized, he would be torn like this, aware of Phoebe's awkwardness, the difficulties she encountered in the world simply by being different, and ye propelled beyond all this by her direct and guileless love. By her love, yes, and, he realized ... by his own new and strangely uncomplicated love for her. ~ Kim Edwards
Disabilities quotes by Kim Edwards
Anyone can be made to feel like an outsider. It's up to the people who have the power to exclude. Often it's on the basis of race. Depending on a culture's fears and biases, Jews can be treated as outsiders. Muslims can be treated as outsiders. Christians can be treated as outsiders. The poor are always outsiders. The sick are often outsiders. People with disabilities can be treated as outsiders. Members of the LGBTQ community can be treated as outsiders. Immigrants are almost always outsiders. And in most every society, women can be made to feel like outsiders - even in their own homes.
Overcoming the need to create outsiders is our greatest challenge as human beings. It is the key to ending deep inequality. We stigmatize and send to the margins people who trigger in us the feelings we want to avoid. This is why there are so many old and weak and sick and poor people on the margins of society. We tend to push out the people who have qualities we're most afraid we will find in ourselves - and sometimes we falsely ascribe qualities we disown to certain groups, then push those groups out as a way of denying those traits in ourselves. This is what drives dominant groups to push different racial and religious groups to the margins.
And we're often not honest about what's happening. If we're on the inside and see someone on the outside, we often say to ourselves, "I'm not in that situation because I'm different. But that's just pride talking. We could easily be that pers ~ Melinda Gates
Disabilities quotes by Melinda Gates
I was not good in school. I could never read very fast or very well. I got tested for learning disabilities, for dyslexia. Then I got put on Ritalin and Dexedrine. I took those starting in the eighth grade. As soon as they pumped that drug into me, it would focus me right in. ~ Channing Tatum
Disabilities quotes by Channing Tatum
Behind the disability, we have a heart and a mind. ~ Matthew Kenslow
Disabilities quotes by Matthew Kenslow
The only way to ensure that our promise to provide every opportunity for students with disabilities, and help them achieve their full potential, is to give our schools the dollars they need. ~ Gordon Smith
Disabilities quotes by Gordon Smith
Thanks to the ongoing support of the Government of Ontario, RHF, in partnership with the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation, has galvanized Ontario's best researchers, clinicians and scientists to accelerate the translation of the most promising research into practical solutions. This commitment enables the ongoing leveraging of federal, provincial and private sector funds to allow Canadian SCI researchers to embark on a national and global collective journey towards making a difference in the lives of people with spinal cord injury and other disabilities. ~ Rick Hansen
Disabilities quotes by Rick Hansen
Disability is not something an individual overcomes. I'm still disabled. I'm still Deafblind. People with disabilities are successful when we develop alternative techniques and our communities choose inclusion. ~ Haben Girma
Disabilities quotes by Haben Girma
We're building on an international network with many others for the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. There are so many things we can do to carry forward policies. ~ Janet Reno
Disabilities quotes by Janet Reno
People with disabilities are still whole. They're just whole differently. ~ Leta Blake
Disabilities quotes by Leta Blake
I learned a lesson today: never judge a person by the way they act, nor how they dress, or the way they have their disabilities. Because everyone on Earth suffers the same hell, whether in love or hate, life or death. ~ Nandanie Phalgoo
Disabilities quotes by Nandanie Phalgoo
A lot of roles for people with disabilities are quite patronising. It's a real pity when they are just used to give dull PC kudos to a drama, or when they're wheeled on in a tokenistic way without any real involvement in the plot. ~ Mark Haddon
Disabilities quotes by Mark Haddon
I want the word Autism to provoke an image of a wonderful and unique person. ~ Amanda Baggs
Disabilities quotes by Amanda Baggs
There seems to be so much shame wrapped up in speech disabilities. It seems very sad and complicated all at the same time. ~ Danica McKellar
Disabilities quotes by Danica McKellar
We all have disabilities. Just some are more visible than others. We all have challenges, we all have obstacles ~ Amy Purdy
Disabilities quotes by Amy Purdy
Know your own child's behaviors and look deeper to find their meaning. Be the expert for your child. Discover the wonderful. ~ Liz Becker
Disabilities quotes by Liz Becker
Families who lovingly accept the difficult trial of a child with special needs are greatly to be admired. They render the Church and society an invaluable witness of faithfulness to the gift of life. In these situations, the family can discover, together with the Christian community, new approaches, new ways of acting, a different way of understanding and identifying with others, by welcoming and caring for the mystery of the frailty of human life. People with disabilities are a gift for the family and an opportunity to grow in love, mutual aid and unity ... If the family, in the light of the faith, accepts the presence of persons with special needs, they will be able to recognize and ensure the quality and value of every human life, with its proper needs, rights and opportunities. ~ Pope Francis
Disabilities quotes by Pope Francis
Treatment for people with disabilities and mental illness in prewar America reveals a profoundly ignorant medical establishment and educational community. ~ Kate Clifford Larson
Disabilities quotes by Kate Clifford Larson
The Just Therapy Team's discussions involved an outline of how othered marginalized groups desired a genuine alternative therapeutic dialogue. Marginalized groups (e.g., women, people of color, persons living in poverty, and persons struggling with mental health issues, disabilities) no longer wanted to be dictated to or told who they actually were as persons, as defined by the dominant class of Western psychological thinking (T. K. Tamasese and C. Waldegrave, personal communication, 1991, 1996, 2004, 2008). ~ Stephen Madigan
Disabilities quotes by Stephen Madigan
I spent a lot of time in the school psychologist's office. I didn't apply myself. My mother thought I had learning disabilities. ~ Roger Goodell
Disabilities quotes by Roger Goodell
Self esteem and a healthy body image for people with disabilities are so often hard-fought. ~ Stella Young
Disabilities quotes by Stella Young
Society frames people with disabilities as incapable of contributing. And yet, these kids treat me like someone with gifts to share and lessons to teach. ~ Haben Girma
Disabilities quotes by Haben Girma
The worst thing you can do is nothing. (re: teaching children with autism) ~ Temple Grandin
Disabilities quotes by Temple Grandin
It was the best route to get folks to understand segregation fast. Civil rights and women's rights had a clear history. Making the transition to rights for people with disabilities became easier because we had the history of the other two. ~ Major Owens
Disabilities quotes by Major Owens
Children with disabilities are stronger than we know, they fight the battles that most will never know. ~ Misti Renea Neely
Disabilities quotes by Misti Renea Neely
A major cause of the Roman Empire's decline, after six centuries of world dominance was its replacement of stone aqueducts by lead pipes for the transport and supply of drinking water. Roman engineers, the best in the world, turned their fellow citizens into cripples. Today our own "best and brightest," with the best of intentions, achieve the same end through childhood vaccination programmes yielding the modern scourges of hyperactivity, learning disabilities, autism, appetite disorders, and impulsive violence. ~ Harris L Coulter
Disabilities quotes by Harris L Coulter
There are disagreements over whether autism is something that should be always and all the time embraced and celebrated as just a different way to be human, or whether autism sometimes can be really so debilitating to individuals that you want to do something to change those disabilities in them. ~ John Donvan
Disabilities quotes by John Donvan
I'm an occupational therapist, an obscure profession if there
ever was one. We are few and far between, maybe because
we have chosen to serve people with disabilities. All disabilities.
Not a glamorous endeavour, nor a lucrative one.
And I say serve because we deem that in helping we see
weakness, while in serving we see wholeness. We've opted
for wholeness nearly a century ago and have been at odds
with the system ever since. We don't fix people, you see:
with them, we simply try to find a way to meaning, balance,
and justice. I chose occupational therapy because it
blends science and humanism, intellectual rigour and compassion. ~ Rachel Thibeault
Disabilities quotes by Rachel Thibeault
My request today is simple. Today. Tomorrow. Next week. Find somebody, anybody, that's different than you. Somebody that has made you feel ill-will or even hateful. Somebody whose life decisions have made you uncomfortable. Somebody who practices a different religion than you do. Somebody who has been lost to addiction. Somebody with a criminal past. Somebody who dresses "below" you. Somebody with disabilities. Somebody who lives an alternative lifestyle. Somebody without a home.
Somebody that you, until now, would always avoid, always look down on, and always be disgusted by.
Reach your arm out and put it around them.
And then, tell them they're all right. Tell them they have a friend. Tell them you love them.
If you or I wanna make a change in this world, that's where we're gonna be able to do it. That's where we'll start.
Every. Single. Time. ~ Dan Pearce
Disabilities quotes by Dan Pearce
Freedom of religion means the right of the individual to choose and to adhere to whichever religious beliefs he may prefer, to join with others in religious associations to express these beliefs, and to incur no civil disabilities because of his choice ... ~ Joseph Leon Blau
Disabilities quotes by Joseph Leon Blau
Attacking People With Disabilities is the Lowest Display of Power I Can Think Of ~ Morgan Freeman
Disabilities quotes by Morgan Freeman
Also note that invariably when we design something that can be used by those with disabilities, we often make it better for everyone. ~ Donald Norman
Disabilities quotes by Donald Norman
For me, I never ever felt the ownership or any identity with any community of disabilities. I didn't grow up being told that I was a disabled child. ~ Aimee Mullins
Disabilities quotes by Aimee Mullins
Severe mental illness has been likened to drug addiction, prostitution, and criminality (37,38). Unlike physical disabilities, persons with mental illness are perceived by the public to be in control of their disabilities and responsible for causing them (34,36). Furthermore, research respondents are less likely to pity persons with mental illness, instead reacting to psychiatric disability with anger and believing that help is not deserved (35,36,39).

PATRICK W. CORRIGAN and AMY C. WATSON ~ Matthew W. Corrigan
Disabilities quotes by Matthew W. Corrigan
We were stereotyped the way many athletes with disabilities or illnesses are, particularly in participatory sports such as biking, running, and triathlon. After a while I could pretty much fill in the thought balloons over these people's heads. "Oh, look at these heroic young people, courageously struggling to get themselves across the finish line, in order to raise money for thier cause. How inspiring!" Don't get me wrong; while we appreciate the good wishes and realized that they were usually genuine, something in that attitude rankled me, and still does. We're athletes, dammit, and we want to be accorded the same respect as other competitors. That's how you treat somebody with illness or disability, in my opinion. Not as a special-needs person, but as a person. ~ Phil Southerland
Disabilities quotes by Phil Southerland
The laws that protect women and minorities and people with disabilities, among others, from discrimination are essential, and I am not suggesting they be circumvented. But I have also witnessed firsthand how they can have a chilling effect on discourse, sometimes even to the detriment of the people they are designed to defend. ~ Sheryl Sandberg
Disabilities quotes by Sheryl Sandberg
My life goal is to see the world's one billion people with disabilities embraced and encouraged by the church. ~ Joni Eareckson Tada
Disabilities quotes by Joni Eareckson Tada
In evaluating ourselves, we tend to be long on our weaknesses and short on our strengths. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Disabilities quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
When weight loss is conflated with veganism, it falls into dangerous area of body shaming and misogyny. Mainstream media loves to make women feel inferior when it comes to their bodies and unfortunately veganism has recently become another weapon and this sexist war on our society. Thin white women are used to sell veganism as a quick fix to a more desirable body at the expense of anyone who doesn't fit the cookie cutter idea of female perfection. In addition, these images and messages work to oppress women of colour and people living with disabilities. Selling veganism as anything other than caring for animals often leads to oppression, plain and simple. We need to resist this approach to promoting veganism by drawing the fight back to animals. Every single time. ~ Sean O'Callaghan
Disabilities quotes by Sean O'Callaghan
Seeking social equality for disabilities doesn't come from bullying or militancy, seeking social equality for disabilities comes is from realising the open-mindedness and acknowledgement of each person's reality ~ Paul Isaacs
Disabilities quotes by Paul Isaacs
Men never fail to dwell on maternity as a disqualification for the possession of many civil and political rights. Suggest the idea of women having a voice in making laws and administering the Government in the halls of legislation, in Congress, or the British Parliament, and men will declaim at once on the disabilities of maternity in a sneering contemptuous way, as if the office of motherhood was undignified and did not comport with the highest public offices in church and state. It is vain that we point them to Queen Victoria, who has carefully reared a large family, while considering and signing ... ~ Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Disabilities quotes by Elizabeth Cady Stanton
People with disabilities deserve the chance to build a life for themselves in the communities where they choose to live. ~ Barack Obama
Disabilities quotes by Barack Obama
Not being able to talk sucks. There's no doubt about that. There's a lot of times when I almost feel like I'm trapped inside of myself. Like if I don't talk or yell or scream or laugh I'm going to explode. A lot of the time it almost feels like I'm suffocating. ~ Keary Taylor
Disabilities quotes by Keary Taylor
It's critical to show that we can meet our commitment to students with disabilities without raising taxes and without increasing the deficit. In the past, there's been strong support for full funding and I'm still hearing that from many of my colleagues. ~ Jared Polis
Disabilities quotes by Jared Polis
I was young and physically fit and I struggled here, so I had a deep respect for the older people, and those with disabilities, who returned class after class in spite of their pain and their physical limitations. ~ Edward Burke
Disabilities quotes by Edward Burke
We often talk about being kind, but how do we define "kind" at its very root? Where is the root and what is the root of "kind" and "kindness"? I truly believe that kindness is rooted in the acceptance of the flaws of life, the acceptance of the turns life has taken which we couldn't have planned for and that we didn't hope for. Kindness is rooted in the acceptance of the fact that life is a wild thing that cannot ever be caged. Some people are going to get married and divorced seven times before they find the one they are meant to be with; that's okay. Some people are going to be born with disabilities; that's okay. Some people are born in heaven while others are born in hell; both are okay. Some people are born in hell later ending up in heaven while others are born in heaven later ending up in hell; it's all okay. Life, whether belonging to you or to others, is never going to be a painting fitting into your prepared picture frame. How dare we come into this monstrous, joyous, incredible, terrible world, thinking that we can dictate what's wrong and right, what's better and what's lesser? Come into this world with your wings and your claws and your paws and your laughters! With your feathers and your fur! Because you're going to need all of it! And when you look at other people, sometimes they are going to be donning feathers and other times they are going to be clawing things, jumping in and out, screaming or laughing or crying or being quiet; it's all okay. Because we are ~ C. JoyBell C.
Disabilities quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Accessible design is good design - it benefits people who don't have disabilities as well as people who do. Accessibility is all about removing barriers and providing the benefits of technology for everyone. ~ Steve Ballmer
Disabilities quotes by Steve Ballmer
I like to think I have a superpower called dyslexia. I am creative, intuitive, and empathetic. I am great with problem-solving, and I can think outside the box. ~ Lorin Morgan-Richards
Disabilities quotes by Lorin Morgan-Richards
Those we most often exclude from the normal life of society, people with disabilities, have profound lessons to teach us ~ Jean Vanier
Disabilities quotes by Jean Vanier
People with disabilities are simply part of diverse communities in the U.S. ~ Stella Young
Disabilities quotes by Stella Young
The foundation of a strong economy and job creation begins with providing every child in America with the best possible education, including students with disabilities. ~ Jared Polis
Disabilities quotes by Jared Polis
People presume my disability has to do with being an amputee, but that's not the case; our insecurities are our disabilities, and I struggle with those as does everyone. ~ Aimee Mullins
Disabilities quotes by Aimee Mullins
Notice the difference: A child's disability is the focus in traditional classroom settings, but his abilities are the focus in the homeschool environment. ~ Sandra K. Cook
Disabilities quotes by Sandra K. Cook
Disability scholars Andrienne Asch and Erik Parens, in their seminal discussion of the problem, wrote,'Pre-natal diagnosis reinforces the medical model that disability itself, not societal discrimination against people with disabilities, is the problem to be solved. ~ Andrew Solomon
Disabilities quotes by Andrew Solomon
As the mother of a son with disabilities, I try to keep an eye out for news that affects people in the large community of which he is a part. ~ Judy Woodruff
Disabilities quotes by Judy Woodruff
For example, the first time McDonald's put a deaf person in a commercial they saw a jump in sales. I think that happens with other kinds of disabilities and products and that is something that is being realized more and more. ~ Richard Masur
Disabilities quotes by Richard Masur
The more the world commits to programs for poverty and education, the greater the gap for those with intellectual disabilities. That's because money goes where results are quick and quantifiable, which is not likely for people with intellectual disabilities. ~ LAWRENCE DOWNES
Disabilities quotes by LAWRENCE DOWNES
Through the 'It's About Ability' campaign and with parents and other members of society, we have created a social family for children with disabilities. ~ Igor Luksic
Disabilities quotes by Igor Luksic
[Kinsey's studies included] stutterers, amputees, paraplegics, even those with cerebral palsy were observed. Kinsey wanted to document the full spectrum of human sexuality, but it was more than that. He believed these people might have things to teach us about the physiology of sex. And he was right. These groups alerted Kinsey--and the scientific community as a whole--to the complicated and crucial role of the central nervous system in sex and reproduction. Kinsey had noted that a stutterer in the throes of sexual abandon may temporarily lose his stutter. Similarly, the phantom limb pain some amputees feel temporarily disappears. Even the muscle spasticity of cerebral palsy may be briefly quieted. The body's limiting factors seem to get shut off. The organism is driven toward nature's singular goal--conception, the passing on of one's genes--and anything that stands in the way is pushed into the background. ~ Mary Roach
