Digital Literacy quotes by Michael K. Powell
I really love laser-cutting. I do a lot of laser-cut jewelry and laser-etched stationery. I'll even etch my food sometimes. You can download an image online and etch it onto a tortilla or a brownie. It's so cool to meld the digital and analog worlds together. ~ Brit Morin
Digital Literacy quotes by Brit Morin
Hey Pete. So why the leave from social media? You are an activist, right? It seems like this decision is counterproductive to your message and work."

A: The short answer is I'm tired of the endless narcissism inherent to the medium. In the commercial society we have, coupled with the consequential sense of insecurity people feel, as they impulsively "package themselves" for public consumption, the expression most dominant in all of this - is vanity. And I find that disheartening, annoying and dangerous. It is a form of cultural violence in many respects. However, please note the difference - that I work to promote just that – a message/idea – not myself… and I honestly loath people who today just promote themselves for the sake of themselves. A sea of humans who have been conditioned into viewing who they are – as how they are seen online. Think about that for a moment. Social identity theory run amok.

People have been conditioned to think "they are" how "others see them". We live in an increasing fictional reality where people are now not only people – they are digital symbols. And those symbols become more important as a matter of "marketing" than people's true personality. Now, one could argue that social perception has always had a communicative symbolism, even before the computer age. But nooooooothing like today. Social media has become a social prison and a strong means of social control, in fact.
Beyond that, as most know, social media is li ~ Peter Joseph
Digital Literacy quotes by Peter Joseph
It's very true that non-actors feel more comfortable in front of a digital camera, without the lights and the large crowd around them, and we arrive at much more intimate moments with them. ~ Abbas Kiarostami
Digital Literacy quotes by Abbas Kiarostami
The printed word will be around long after many of our digital creations are gone, either because books don't require monthly hosting, and blogs and websites do ... or because the languages and platforms for which a particular digital creation was published will become obsolete. ~ Jeffrey Zeldman
Digital Literacy quotes by Jeffrey Zeldman
The discipline of focus that is necessary to think profoundly is certainly difficult for many people to achieve. ~ Pearl Zhu
Digital Literacy quotes by Pearl Zhu

I was well traveled, and I created this illusion of literacy through reading and writing. I wrote a book of short stories. ~ Tom T. Hall
Digital Literacy quotes by Tom T. Hall
Digital-Original publishing embraces the non-conventional and genre-busting story. It allows me to share good stories with readers who will enjoy them, and at a reasonable price. ~ Michael A. Stackpole
Digital Literacy quotes by Michael A. Stackpole
The Obama administration, like those before it, promotes a disturbingly narrow interpretation of the Fourth Amendment, misapplying the facts of old analog cases to a radically different digital world. ~ Barton Gellman
Digital Literacy quotes by Barton Gellman
Like last year I took Advance Foods class (which is like cooking for nerds) after lunch, and so I usually took a nap. Which was fine, because I'm not even thrilled about regular foods, so, you know, what do I need with like advanced digital HD wi-fi foods and whatnot? -Abby ~ Christopher Moore
Digital Literacy quotes by Christopher Moore
In this digital age you have to pay to play in the game to succeed if not you will stay in obscurity ~ Bernard Kelvin Clive
Digital Literacy quotes by Bernard Kelvin Clive
My main camera is a Nikon D3. I use a French camera from the 1800s for wet plate photography, I use a Hasselblad sometimes. But to me the camera really doesn't matter that much. I don't have a preference for film or digital. ~ Nikki Sixx
Digital Literacy quotes by Nikki Sixx
There is no such thing as a leap into literacy. ~ David Petersen
Digital Literacy quotes by David Petersen
We should think about what we mean by literacy. If you say, "He's a very literate person," what you really mean is that he knows a lot, thinks a lot, has a certain frame of mind that comes through reading and knowing about various subjects. The major route open to literacy has been through reading and writing text. But we're seeing new media offer richer ways to explore knowledge and communicate, through sound and pictures. ~ Seymour Papert
Digital Literacy quotes by Seymour Papert
The speed with which WikiLeaks went from niche interest to global prominence was a real-time example of the revolutionizing power of the digital age in which information can spread instantly across the globe through networked individuals. ~ Heather Brooke
Digital Literacy quotes by Heather Brooke
For me, digital is just another avenue. It doesn't mean that it has to be poor quality or poor content. But, you still run into the same struggles. You can't have full-on language, violence or sexual situations. You can't run rampant with the fact that it's digital. You can't do anything you want. You still have a responsibility to tell a story first, and show what the character is going through first, and then maybe you have a little bit of lee-way to show a more real side of life. ~ Milo Ventimiglia
Digital Literacy quotes by Milo Ventimiglia
It simply is not true that everything is now on the Internet, but it is true that the digital resources available through the Internet have enormous potential for education and even for self-empowerment of individuals. ~ Robert Darnton
Digital Literacy quotes by Robert Darnton
We live in a world of excess: too many kinds of coffee, too many magazines, too many types of bread, too many digital recordings of Beethoven's Ninth, too many choices of rearview mirrors on the latest Renault. Sometimes you say to yourself: It's too much, it's all too much. ~ Corinne Maier
Digital Literacy quotes by Corinne Maier
Digital files cannot be made uncopyable, any more than water can be made not wet. ~ Bruce Schneier
Digital Literacy quotes by Bruce Schneier
What's next for technology and design? A lot less thinking about technology for technology's sake, and a lot more thinking about design. Art humanizes technology and makes it understandable. Design is needed to make sense of information overload. It is why art and design will rise in importance during this century as we try to make sense of all the possibilities that digital technology now affords. ~ John Maeda
Digital Literacy quotes by John Maeda
Many words will be written on the wind and the sand, or end up in some obscure digital vault. But the storytelling will go on until the last human being stops listening. Then we can send the great chronicle of humanity out into the endless universe. ~ Henning Mankell
Digital Literacy quotes by Henning Mankell
I don't think there are too many traditional media guys who really understood what the new digital media is about. ~ Randy Falco
Digital Literacy quotes by Randy Falco
We didn't understand irony yet in the '80s; we just kind of existed at face value, so there was no nerd cool yet because the digital revolution was still in its infancy. ~ Chris Hardwick
Digital Literacy quotes by Chris Hardwick
Well digital media and social media are eliminating the middle man - in the old days, you had to go through the editors. Or the television producer, you know? Now you have people talking directly to each other, globally who have never met. I think you put the "word" in "word of mouth." ~ Kelly Cutrone
Digital Literacy quotes by Kelly Cutrone
Sometimes you have no idea what you are you doing, but you just do it anyways. And that can be a good thing ~ Anita Babic
Digital Literacy quotes by Anita Babic
People over the age of thirty were born before the digital revolution really started. We've learned to use digital technology - laptops, cameras, personal digital assistants, the Internet - as adults, and it has been something like learning a foreign language. Most of us are okay, and some are even expert. We do e-mails and PowerPoint, surf the Internet, and feel we're at the cutting edge. But compared to most people under thirty and certainly under twenty, we are fumbling amateurs. People of that age were born after the digital revolution began. They learned to speak digital as a mother tongue. ~ Ken Robinson
Digital Literacy quotes by Ken Robinson
If I hear the phrase "selfie" one more time, I'll have to enroll myself in anger management classes. ~ Rebecca McNutt
Digital Literacy quotes by Rebecca McNutt
When anything goes digital, let alone something as immaterial as a book, there is a tendency to see it as just in the air to be taken, and to lose the sense that somebody once made it. ~ Graham Swift
Digital Literacy quotes by Graham Swift
In the pursuit of greater equality in our education system, from K to PhD, technology access, print literacies, and verbal skill all collide as requirements for even basic participation in an information-based, technology-dependent economy and society. ~ Adam J. Banks
Digital Literacy quotes by Adam J. Banks
Literacy unlocks the door to learning throughout life, is essential to development and health, and opens the way for democratic participation and active citizenship. ~ Kofi Annan
Digital Literacy quotes by Kofi Annan
When I work with experimental gadgets, like new variations on virtual reality, in a lab environment, I am always reminded of how small changes in the details of a digital design can have profound unforeseen effects on the experiences of the humans who are playing with it. The slightest change in something as seemingly trivial as the use of a button can sometimes completely alter behavior patterns.
For instance, Stanford University researcher Jeremy Bailenson has demonstrated that changing the height of one's avatar in immersive virtual reality transforms self-esteem and social self-perception. Technologies are extensions of ourselves, and, like the avatars in Jeremy's lab, our identities can be shifted by the quirks of gadgets. It is impossible to work with information technology without also engaging in social engineering. ~ Jaron Lanier
Digital Literacy quotes by Jaron Lanier
The Tunisian blogger and activist Sami Ben Gharbia has written passionately about how U.S. government involvement in grassroots digital spaces can endanger those who are already vulnerable to accusations by nasty regimes of acting as foreign agents. ~ Rebecca MacKinnon
