I'd much rather talk about guitar playing. I hate it when people ask me about my lyrics. I always feel like telling them to just go and read them. ~ James Hetfield
Desposito Lyrics quotes by James Hetfield
I had no songs in my repertoire for commercial radio anyway. Songs about debauched bootleggers, mothers that drowned their own children, Cadillacs that only got five miles to the gallon, floods, union hall fires, darkness and cadavers at the bottom of rivers weren't for radiophiles. There was nothing easygoing about the folk songs I sang. They weren't friendly or ripe with mellowness. They didn't come gently to the shore. I guess you could say they weren't commercial.

Not only that, my style was too erratic and hard to pigeonhole for the radio, and songs, to me, were more important that just light entertainment. They were my preceptor and guide into some altered consciousness of reality, some different republic, some liberated republic. Greil Marcus, the music historian, would some thirty years later call it "the invisible republic."

Whatever the case, it wasn't that I was anti-popular culture or anything and I had no ambitions to stir things up. i just thought of popular culture as lame as hell and a big trick. It was like the unbroken sea of frost that lay outside the window and you had to have awkward footgear to walk on it.

I didn't know what age of history we were in nor what the truth of it was. Nobody bothered with that. If you told the truth, that was all well and good and if you told the un-truth, well, that's still well and good. Folk songs taught me that. ~ Bob Dylan
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Bob Dylan
I get the lyrics of a tune and interpret them my way. ~ Kylie Minogue
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Kylie Minogue
For me, singing was always about the lyrics. I'm hopeless at singing songs that don't have a core. ~ Julie Andrews
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Julie Andrews
I think what interests me the most is when the two things are developed at the same time, which certainly feels natural for the way of working when there is no dialogue. You sort of depend on the music to be that, especially when there's lyrics in the music. ~ Matthew Barney
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Matthew Barney
Maybe memories are like karaoke - where you realize up on the stage, with all those lyrics scrawling across the screen's bottom, and with everybody clapping at you, that you didn't know even half the lyrics to your all-time favourite song. Only afterwards, when someone else is up on stage humiliating themselves amid the clapping and laughing, do you realize that what you liked most about your favourite song was precisely your ignorance of its full meaning - and you read more into it than maybe existed in the first place. I think it's better to not know the lyrics to your life. ~ Douglas Coupland
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Douglas Coupland
I finish a lot of lyrics while I'm in the water and it's always pretty constructive for me to get out in the water. I'm not actually writing the words down, but I have time to think about words, and doing a lot of surfing usually gives me a little space and peace of mind to finish things up. ~ Jack Johnson
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Jack Johnson
No matter what I do, my songs come out in a certain style, and if that sounds like Dead Kennedys, then there's probably a reason for it. Don't forget, I wrote most of those songs, music and lyrics. ~ Jello Biafra
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Jello Biafra
He doesn't make it so complicated but just really allows the lyric to come through even though there's a lot of production going on. I think that's the key and that's the magic, it's making sure that people could still connect with the lyrics while they're on the dance floor. ~ Deborah Cox
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Deborah Cox
I think the melody is the first time I hear in a song and if I like the melody, then I'll pay closer attention to the lyrics. ~ George Strait
Desposito Lyrics quotes by George Strait
A good poem is a tautology. It expands one word by adding a number which clarify it, thus making a new word which has never before been spoken. The seedword is always so ordinary that hardly anyone perceives it. Classical odes grow from and or because, romantic lyrics from but and if. Immature verses expand a personal pronoun ad nauseam, the greatest works bring glory to a common verb. Good poems, therefore, are always close to banality, over which, however, they tower like precipices. ~ Alasdair Gray
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Alasdair Gray
You made me feel less alone;
you made me feel not quite so
deformed, uninformed and hunchbacked. ~ Morrissey
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Morrissey
Dostoyevsky's indignation at Afanasy Fet's innocent lyrics, "Whispers, timid breath, the nightingales trilled," is well known. This is simply disgraceful, wrote Dostoyevsky indignantly, and he speculated what an insulting impression such empty verses would have made if they'd been given to someone to read during the Lisbon earthquake! Some people protested: Yes, of course, Dostoyevsky is right, but we aren't having an earthquake, and we aren't in Lisbon, and after all, are we not allowed to love, to listen to nightingales, to admire the beauty of a beloved woman? But Dostoyevsky's argument held sway for a long time. It did so because of the way Russians perceive Russian life: as a constant, unending Lisbon earthquake. ~ Tatyana Tolstaya
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Tatyana Tolstaya
Love me or hate me, i swear it won't make or break me. ~ Lil' Wayne
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Lil' Wayne
The more you ignore me, the closer I get; you're wasting your time. ~ Morrissey
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Morrissey
The thing about Sondheim is that it does get very cerebral. You do need a faculty with words and a love for the lyrics to not just pull it off, but to have an appreciation for it. ~ Lea Salonga
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Lea Salonga
All good people read good books. Now your conscience is clear.
- Twist In My Sobriety - Song Lyrics ~ Tanita Tikaram
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Tanita Tikaram
We take a lot of care with lyrics because we don't want to offend anybody. ~ Bill Haley
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Bill Haley
We recorded Star Climbing over a three-year period between our studios, working on songs and lyrics until we felt like we had found the albums direction. It is our most distinctive album to date, combining all our different tastes and styles into one. ~ Stuart Price
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Stuart Price
I always hated...all sad songs. I thought they made happy people miserable. Now I think I understand them better. Bards write them because they can't hold them back. Sadness has got to flow out or it gets stuck and turns bitter. ~ Jonathan Renshaw
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Jonathan Renshaw
Twenty years of schooling and they put you on the day shift - look out out kid, they keep it all hid ~ Bob Dylan
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Bob Dylan
We don't want to give people straight answers. We'd rather they question things for themselves. ~ Deborah Curtis
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Deborah Curtis
It's the way I make music, I will take two ideas and smash them together and if they sit well together for me then that's fine, and it's the same with the lyrics - if I see a couple of lines and I like the way they look on the page then I'll use them. I find they take on a meaning of their own, it's very difficult to explain how I actually go about all that. ~ Thighpaulsandra
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Thighpaulsandra
I realized that, for me, great records always moved me with the lyrics and the melodies. And so I said, 'I think I can do it now,' 'cause I found a team of people who understand I didn't want a record that was 'drop it, pop it, shake it' just 'cause I can dance. ~ Laurieann Gibson
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Laurieann Gibson
Creativity is the catalyst to the future. ~ Ann Marie Frohoff
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Ann Marie Frohoff
Gavin stood within the trees, observing her from the shadows. He watched the basket rise to her nose as she closed her eyes to sniff at its contents. A smile told him it smelled delicious, but she didn't open the container to pinch off a sample. Instead, the basket lowered to swing at her side as it had previously done.

All at once the air was filled with soft singing--a sweet, merry tune comprised of ludicrous lyrics. It was impossible not to grin at the words.

"Rainbows paint the sky 'til the sun melts their colors.
Swinging in the wind, whiskered cattails purr.
The pigs gallop by and snort at the moon,
While frogs kiss the lizards and princesses too." ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
When someone asks you to listen to a song, it's because the lyrics mean everything they're trying to say ~ Unknown
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Unknown
Writing a song is like - you're writing a song all the time. It's just when it pops out. It's been there all the time. It's not something that suddenly you do it. It's always there. Suddenly, it's in the right mixture inside you to come out. Usually when you're writing on the piano or a guitar, you don't write in lyrics, on their own. To me it's very boring. ~ Mick Jagger
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Mick Jagger
It takes more talent to write music, but it takes more courage to write lyrics. ~ Johnny Mercer
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Johnny Mercer
Sing your life; any fool can think of words that rhyme. ~ Morrissey
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Morrissey
I've never invested myself properly in trying to write stories. When I write lyrics, mostly I write each sentence separately on an index card and then I lay them out and I just mix them up. ~ Jason Schwartzman
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Jason Schwartzman
It's really important that my lyrics are truthful. ~ Lianne La Havas
Desposito Lyrics quotes by Lianne La Havas
I write lyrics. I play the guitar. If the rest of the band had to do my schedule, they would be dead ~ John Frusciante
