We have produced some good walkers and saunterers, and some noted climbers; but as a staple recreation, as a daily practice, the mass of the people dislike and despise walking. ~ John Burroughs
Daily Practice quotes by John Burroughs
If a man seriously proposes to go in for lifting heavy weights, he should make a point of practising certain lifts every day. This daily practice is essential to the achievement of any real success. ~ Arthur Saxon
Daily Practice quotes by Arthur Saxon
I was talking about children that have not been properly house-trained. Left to their own impulses and indulged by doting or careless parents almost all children are yahoos. Loud, selfish, cruel, unaffectionate, jealous, perpetually striving for attention, empty-headed, for ever prating or if words fail them simply bawling, their voices grown huge from daily practice: the very worst company in the world. But what I dislike even more than the natural child is the affected child, the hulking oaf of seven or eight that skips heavily about with her hands dangling in front of her
a little squirrel or bunny-rabbit
and prattling away in a baby's voice. ~ Patrick O'Brian
Daily Practice quotes by Patrick O'Brian
When you plant seeds in the garden, you don't dig them up every day to see if they have sprouted yet. You simply water them and clear away the weeds; you know that the seeds will grow in time. Similarly, just do your daily practice and cultivate a kind heart. Abandon impatience and instead be content creating the causes for goodness; the results will come when they're ready. ~ Thubten Chodron
Daily Practice quotes by Thubten Chodron
Children, daily practice of yoga or sun salutations (surya-namaskara) is very good for health and for spiritual practice. Lack of proper exercise is the cause of many of today's diseases. If we can get somewhere in time on foot, always walk instead of taking a vehicle. It is good exercise. Only if we have to go far should we depend on vehicles. Use a bicycle, whenever possible. This will save money, too. ~ Mata Amritanandamayi
Daily Practice quotes by Mata Amritanandamayi
Morocco has a lot to do in terms of democracy. The daily practice of democracy evolves in time. Trying to apply a Western democratic system to a country of the Maghreb, the Middle East, or the Gulf would be a mistake. We are not Germany, Sweden or Spain. ~ Mohammed VI Of Morocco
Daily Practice quotes by Mohammed VI Of Morocco
Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we're supposed to be and embracing who we are. Choosing authenticity means cultivating the courage to be imperfect, to set boundaries, and to allow ourselves to be vulnerable; exercising the compassion that comes from knowing that we are all made of strength and struggle; and nurturing the connection and sense of belonging that can only happen when we believe that we are enough. Authenticity demands Wholehearted living and loving - even when it's hard, even when we're wrestling with the shame and fear of not being good enough, and especially when the joy is so intense that we're afraid to let ourselves feel it. Mindfully practicing authenticity during our most soul-searching struggles is how we invite grace, joy, and gratitude into our lives. ~ Brene Brown
Daily Practice quotes by Brene Brown
Feel that it had not been the most direful mistake in his plan of education. Something must have been wanting within, or time would have worn away much of its ill effect. He feared that principle, active principle, had been wanting, that they had never been properly taught to govern their inclinations and tempers, by that sense of duty which can alone suffice. They had been instructed theoretically in their religion, but never required to bring it into daily practice. To be distinguished for elegance and accomplishments - the authorised object of their youth - could have had no useful influence that way, no moral effect on the mind. He had meant them to be good, but his cares had been directed to the understanding and manners, not the disposition; and of the necessity of self-denial and humility, he feared they had never heard from any lips that could profit them. ~ Jane Austen
Daily Practice quotes by Jane Austen
Kindness is essential to mental peace. As you will see in the pages ahead, the central method for achieving a happier life is to train your mind in a daily practice that weakens negative attitudes and strengthens positive ones. ~ Dalai Lama XIV
Daily Practice quotes by Dalai Lama XIV
Improper breathing is a common cause of ill health. If I had to limit my advice on healthier living to just one tip, it would be simply to learn how to breathe correctly. There is no single more powerful -or more simple- daily practice to further your health and well being than breathwork. ~ Andrew Weil
Daily Practice quotes by Andrew Weil
A Prayer for Daily Insight
Open my eyes, God. Help me to perceive what I have ignored, to uncover what I have forgotten, to find what I have been searching for. Remind me that I don't have to journey far to discover something new, for miracles surround me, blessings and holiness abound. And You are near.
Amen. ~ Naomi Levy
Daily Practice quotes by Naomi Levy
Preparation to success is hard work of daily practice with improvement. ~ Millie DeWitt
Daily Practice quotes by Millie DeWitt
I didn't start with any specific steps, but through this intentional, daily practice of giving thanks, I found myself on a transformative journey that affected every aspect of my life - including all the broken places. ~ Ann Voskamp
Daily Practice quotes by Ann Voskamp
At some point each day (well, most days) I unroll my mat and practice for an hour. I sit in meditation for a while. This can be five minutes or twenty minutes, but the daily practice - simply showing up for it - is centering. ~ Dani Shapiro
Daily Practice quotes by Dani Shapiro
Unlearning the colonialism I was taught, the stories I've been told and I've told myself, is a daily practice, like learning a new language. You learn it by watching films, listening to the radio, reading books. Your ear gets attuned to it. You pick up the vocabulary, learn the system's grammar and mechanics. From there, you can understand and deconstruct it. Sure, learning a language is a solo task, but it helps to have conversation partners. ~ Matt Ortile
Daily Practice quotes by Matt Ortile
Submit to a daily practice. Your loyalty to that is a ring at the door. Keep knocking, and the joy inside will eventually open a window and look out to see who's there. ~ Rumi
Daily Practice quotes by Rumi
Sports and athletics can be a path in Zen, in concordance with daily practice of zazen meditation. You need to move with your spirit, not just with your body. ~ Frederick Lenz
Daily Practice quotes by Frederick Lenz
One way to access the field is through the daily practice of silence, meditation, and non-judgment. Spending time in nature will also give you access to the qualities inherent in the field: infinite creativity, freedom, and bliss. ~ Deepak Chopra
Daily Practice quotes by Deepak Chopra
Prepare yourselves mentally. A mission requires a great deal of mental preparation. You must memorize missionary discussions, memorize scriptures, and oftentimes learn a new language. The discipline to do this is learned in your early years. Establish now the daily practice of reading the scriptures ten to fifteen minutes each day. If you do so, by the time you reach the mission field, you will have read all four of the standard works. I urge you to read particularly the Book of Mormon so that you can testify of its truthfulness as the Lord has directed. ~ Ezra Taft Benson
Daily Practice quotes by Ezra Taft Benson
The number of people who could deliver a kick to the balls with Aomame's mastery must have been few indeed. She had studied kick patterns with great diligence and never missed her daily practice. ~ Haruki Murakami
Daily Practice quotes by Haruki Murakami
At a personal level, as a Buddhist practitioner, I deliberately visualize and think about death in my daily practice. Death is not separated from our lives. Due to my research and thoughts about death, I have some guarantee and some conviction that it will be a positive experience. ~ Dalai Lama
Daily Practice quotes by Dalai Lama
Peace never hurries. To rush or force is contradictory to the very essence of peace. ~ Alaric Hutchinson
Daily Practice quotes by Alaric Hutchinson
Virtue is the panacea for both body and mind. The virtuous person can be both healthy and happy. How is virtue to be cultivated? How can it express itself in daily practice? Through service to living beings, through seva. Virtue must flow through the triple channel of love, mercy and detachment, in order to feed the roots of seva. ~ Sathya Sai Baba
Daily Practice quotes by Sathya Sai Baba
Expect the best; convert problems into opportunities; be dissatisfied with the status quo; focus on where you want to go, instead of where you're coming from; and most importantly, decide to be happy, knowing it's an attitude, a habit gained from daily practice, and not a result or payoff. ~ Denis Waitley
Daily Practice quotes by Denis Waitley
My son and daughter lost their father quite young, so we keep him present with us. It's just a daily practice. ~ Patti Smith
Daily Practice quotes by Patti Smith
Daoist Ordination – Receiving a valid "Lu" 收录 Register
Since returning to the US, and living in Los Angeles, many (ie, truly many) people have come to visit my office and library, asking about Daoist "Lu" 录registers, and whether or not they can be purchased from self declared "Daoist Masters" in the United States. The Daoist Lu register and ordination ritual can only be transmitted in Chinese, after 10+ years of study with a master, learning how to chant Zhengyi or Quanzhen music and liturgy, including the Daoist drum, flute, stringed instruments, and mudra, mantra, and visualization of spirits, where they are stored in the body, how they are summoned forth, for which one must be able to use Tang dynasty pronunciation of classical Chinese texts, ie "Tang wen" 唐文, to be effective and truly transmitted. Daoist meditation and ritual 金录醮,黄录斋 must all be a part of one's daily practice before going to Mt Longhu Shan and passing the test, which qualifies a person for one of the 9 grades of ordination (九品) the lowest of which is 9, highest is 1; grades 6 and above are never taught at Longhu Shan, only recognized in a "test", and awarded an appropriate grade ie rank, or title.
Orthodox Longhu Shan Daoists may only pass on this knowledge to one offspring, and one chosen disciple, once in a lifetime, after which they must "pass on" (die) or be "wafted to heaven." Longmen Quanzhen Daoists, on the other hand, allow their knowledge to be transmitted and practiced, in classical C ~ Michael Saso
Daily Practice quotes by Michael Saso
Ability to think, like the violin or piano, requires daily practice ~ Charlie Chaplin
Daily Practice quotes by Charlie Chaplin
I believe people who practice their beliefs in daily life are activists. ~ Jasmine Guy
Daily Practice quotes by Jasmine Guy
I can see it in the looking back, how this daily practice of the discipline of gratitude is the way to daily practice the delight of God ... ~ Ann Voskamp
Daily Practice quotes by Ann Voskamp
Persistence, persistence, and persistence. The Power can be created and maintained through daily practice - continuous effort. ~ Bruce Lee
Daily Practice quotes by Bruce Lee
The secret to genius is not genetics but daily practice married with relentless perseverance. ~ Robin Sharma
Daily Practice quotes by Robin Sharma
The power of self-kindness can help us to heal our chronic shame and self-loathing. In a world that is often mean-spirited and cruel, a daily practice of kindness and warm-heartedness can make all the difference. ~ Christopher Dines
Daily Practice quotes by Christopher Dines
What usually matters in your life is not the magical moment, but the quality of your daily practice. ~ Eric Greitens
Daily Practice quotes by Eric Greitens
Self-forgiveness is a daily practice of the humble, strong and mentally sane. It is an intentional preservation of inner-peace and a reflection of a healthy self-concept. ~ Shannon Tanner
Daily Practice quotes by Shannon Tanner
Mastering our thoughts can only be achieved after we truly understand what reality is. Thus, it is time to shatter your pre-conceived concept of reality. First, the majority of what you perceive as reality exists only in your mind, and, chances are, you spend most hours of your life in this illusion. ~ Alaric Hutchinson
Daily Practice quotes by Alaric Hutchinson
Write poorly. Suck. Write awful. Terribly. Frightfully. Don't care. Turn off the inner editor. Let yourself write. Let it flow.
Let yourself fail.
Do something crazy.
Write fifty thousand words in the month of
November.
I did it.
It was fun, it was insane, it was one thousand six
hundred and sixty-seven words a day.
It was possible.
But you have to turn off your inner critic.
Off completely.
Just write. Quickly. In bursts. With joy. If you can't write, run away for a few.Come back. Write again.
Writing is like anything else.
You won't get good at it immediately.
It's a craft, you have to keep getting better.
You don't get to Juilliard unless you practice.
If you want to get to Carnegie Hall, practice, practice, practice.
...Or give them a lot of money.
Like anything else, it takes ten thousand hours to master.
Just like Malcolm Gladwell says.
So write. Fail. Get your thoughts down. Let it rest. Let it marinate. Then edit.
But don't edit as you type,
that just slows the brain down.
Find a daily practice,
for me it's blogging every day.
And it's fun.
The more you write, the easier it gets. The more it is a flow, the less a worry. It's not for school, it's not for a grade, it's just to get your thoughts out there.
You know they want to come out. So keep at it. Make it a practice. And write poorly, write awfully, write with abandon and it m ~ Colleen Hoover
Daily Practice quotes by Colleen Hoover
Cultivating an intimate relationship with your inner life is the greatest gift you can give yourself and everyone else on the planet. Within you all the power and substance of life resides. In the stillness at the center of your being is the fountain of pure genius, the source of every masterpiece, the answer to every question, the solution to every problem, and the fulfillment of every dream. But you must daily practice the art of making inner contact in order to actualize this truth. ~ Derek Rydall
Daily Practice quotes by Derek Rydall
Not even the most hardened nihilist can live in the world of pure meaninglessness that his or her narrative presupposes. In their daily practice, the most ardent religious skeptics have to presuppose a basic order and intelligibility in reality that contradicts the creed of self-creation through random chance. ~ Michael S. Horton
Daily Practice quotes by Michael S. Horton
The daily practice of gratitude is one of the conduits by which your wealth will come to you. ~ Wallace D. Wattles
Daily Practice quotes by Wallace D. Wattles
Start the daily practice of joyful living. ~ Bryant McGill
Daily Practice quotes by Bryant McGill
You cannot forgive just once, forgiveness is a daily practice. ~ Sonia Rumzi
Daily Practice quotes by Sonia Rumzi
If you exchanged wedding vows, tape them to your bathroom mirror and read them aloud to yourself every morning along with the ritual brushing of teeth. It's not realistic to believe that you will live your promises as a daily practice
unless you're a saint or a highly evolved Zen Buddhist. Not where marriage is concerned. But you can make a practice of returning to your vows when the going gets rough. ~ Harriet Lerner
Daily Practice quotes by Harriet Lerner
Blessings are revealed through gratitude. Practice gratitude daily. ~ Akiroq Brost
Daily Practice quotes by Akiroq Brost
We live in a vast and awesome universe in which, daily, suns are made and worlds destroyed, where humanity clings to an obscure clod of rock. The significance of our lives and our fragile realm derives from our own wisdom and courage. We are the custodians of life's meaning. ~ Carl Sagan
Daily Practice quotes by Carl Sagan
The ordinary acts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest. ~ Thomas Moore
Daily Practice quotes by Thomas Moore
All is well, practice kindness, heaven is nigh. ~ Jack Kerouac
Daily Practice quotes by Jack Kerouac
Love our Lady. And she will obtain abundant grace to help you conquer in your daily struggle. ~ Josemaria Escriva
Daily Practice quotes by Josemaria Escriva
We live in a microwave life where people want success without passing through the process of hard work. This is because our daily discussions focus on successes and not our struggles, which end up sending wrong message to other people, believing that success can be achieved without hard work. ~ Uzoma Nnadi
Daily Practice quotes by Uzoma Nnadi
That's how I approach just about everything. I spend my life getting ready to play "Rocket Man." I picture the most demanding challenge; I visualize what I would need to know how to do to meet it; then I practice until I reach a level of competence where I'm comfortable that I'll be able to perform. It's what I've always done, ever since I decided I wanted to be an astronaut in 1969, and that conscious, methodical approach to preparation is the main reason I got to Houston. I never stopped getting ready. Just in case. ~ Chris Hadfield
Daily Practice quotes by Chris Hadfield
What is essential to practice the Tao is to get rid of cravings and vexations. If these afflictions are not removed, it is impossible to attain stability. This is like the case of the fertile field, which cannot produce good crops as long as the weeds are not cleared away. Cravings and ruminations are the weeds of the mind; if you do not clear them away, concentration and wisdom do not develop. ~ Zhang Sanfeng
Daily Practice quotes by Zhang Sanfeng
Study hard, practice hard, play ferociously. ~ John Kessel
Daily Practice quotes by John Kessel
He found himself thinking about his childhood.

"Why do you drink so much, Maestro?"

"This is not a music question."

"Are you sad, Maestro?"

"Again, not a music question."

"I am sad sometimes, Maestro."

"Practice more. Speak less. You'll be happier."

"Yes, Maestro."

Everyone joins a band in this life.

Sometimes, they are the wrong ones. ~ Mitch Albom
Daily Practice quotes by Mitch Albom
Too often critics have taken as the sole and crucial matter of fantasy the preoccupation of Tolkien, the quest for a remedy to the world's pain that will not destroy innocence with the temptations of power. Impressive and popular as The Lord of the Rings is, it manages its landscapes, vast green-leaved or slag-heaped vistas of pathetic fallacy and implied morality, far better than its people; it leaves the impression that important issues have been turned by sleight of hand and Georgian prettiness into questions of good and bad practice in urban planning and rural conservation. After all, the Grail is only worth seeking if you can believe in a god who put it there to help those who help themselves, in an Avalon to which burned-out heroes can retire with dignity. There is another great Matter for fantasy, one of more obvious resonance for the creative artist - the reconciliation of faerie and humanity; of the passion, power and wit of a world of sensuality, magic, and danger with the requirements of kind and ordinary life. ~ Roz Kaveney
Daily Practice quotes by Roz Kaveney
We must take arms each and every day, perhaps knowing that the battle cannot be entirely won, but fight we must, if only a gentle bout. The smallest effort to win means, at the end of each day, a sort of victory. Remember that pianist who said that if he did not pratice every day he would know, if he did not practice for two days, the critics would know, after three days, his audiences would know.
A variation of this is true for writers. Not that your style, whatever that is, would melt out of shape in those few days.
But what would happen is that the world would catch up with and try to sicken you. If you did not write every day, the poisons would accumulate and you would begin to die, or act crazy, or both. ~ Ray Bradbury
Daily Practice quotes by Ray Bradbury
Unfortunately, most of the major denominations still practice segregation in local churches, hospitals, schools, and other church institutions. It is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is eleven o'clock on Sunday morning, the same hour when many are standing to sing: In Christ There Is No East Nor West. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Daily Practice quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
He says nothing, vehemently. I falter away and we sit, mutually staring into the fouled water ...
With time to kill, I ponder dismally the possible derivation of the zombie myth from people like my boyfriend. I picture Ralph blackened, semi-fingered, with bright bone peeking through his flesh. The odd small worm clings, festively wiggling. In my image, Ralph's really upset about decaying, and I feel for him sorrowfully. I want to tell him I would still love him, if he were decomposed. Of course in practice there is no predicting what I'd feel, and besides which, it's a wild associative leap.
I ponder dismally how I've alienated people, all my life, with my bizarre associative leaps. ~ Sandra Newman
Daily Practice quotes by Sandra Newman
Enlightenment, or true happiness, is not a transcendental state. It is a condition of broad wisdom, boundless energy, and good fortune wherein we each shape our own destiny, find fulfillment in daily activities, and come to understand our ultimate purpose in life. ~ Josei Toda
Daily Practice quotes by Josei Toda
We all want to live a happy life and have a right to do so, whether through work or spiritual practice. I'm subject to destructive emotions like anger and jealousy the same as you, but we all have potential for good too. However, our existing education system is oriented towards material development; neglecting inner values. Consequently we lack a clear awareness of the inner values that are the basis of a happy life. ~ Dalai Lama
Daily Practice quotes by Dalai Lama
Scientists are very much entangled in their culture and this culture is not pristine, untouched by other cultures and practices. ~ Bruno Latour
Daily Practice quotes by Bruno Latour
His practice primarily screened people's lungs for tuberculosis, which was rampant at the time. ~ Deepak Chopra
Daily Practice quotes by Deepak Chopra
First, let us light the torch of our awareness and learn again how to drink tea, eat, wash dishes, walk, sit, drive, and work in awareness. We do not have to be swept along by circumstances. We are not just a leaf or a log in a rushing river. With awareness, each of our daily acts takes on a new meaning, and we discover that we are more than machines, that our activities are not just mindless repetitions. We find that life is a miracle, the universe is a miracle, and we too are a miracle. ~ Nhat Hanh
Daily Practice quotes by Nhat Hanh
Mindfulness removes the emotional fogs of negative thoughts with the light of awareness. ~ Amit Ray
Daily Practice quotes by Amit Ray
The real wages of potters are in the daily silent appreciations of each of their customers as they pour the morning tea from their teapot, or drink coffee from their mug, or eat dinner off their plate. To be this involved in the daily lives of people who appreciate and admire your work enough to buy it must bring deep reassurance. It is a kind of immortality you can enjoy while still living.
The same goes for the woodworker. You are part of the community. ~ Roger Deakin
Daily Practice quotes by Roger Deakin
Never forget how swiftly this life will be over, like a flash of summer lightning or the wave of a hand. Now that you have the opportunity to practice dharma, do not waste a single moment on anything else. ~ Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
Daily Practice quotes by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
Usually I do a practice in the morning first and then meditate. I'm fortunate that I can do it in a car, in a bus, in a plane. ~ Donna Karan
Daily Practice quotes by Donna Karan
Writing became an obsessive compulsive habit but I had almost no money so I thought about being an urban firefighter and having lots of free time in which to write or becoming an English teacher and thinking about books and writers on a daily basis. That swayed me. ~ David Guterson
Daily Practice quotes by David Guterson
Everybody's for democracy in principle. It's only in practice that the thing gives rise to stiff objections. ~ Meg Greenfield
Daily Practice quotes by Meg Greenfield
Research has shown that people who track their progress on goals like losing weight, quitting smoking, and lowering blood pressure are all more likely to improve than those who don't. One study . . . found that those who kept a daily food log lost twice as much weight as those who did not. The mere act of tracking a behavior can spark the urge to change it. ~ James Clear
Daily Practice quotes by James Clear
Stop seeing the obstacles you face as reasons why you can't do something. See them as a reason why you can. And celebrate your accomplishments on a daily basis. ~ Ali Vincent
Daily Practice quotes by Ali Vincent
Prayer should be done regularly, persistently, resolutely, and tenaciously at least daily, whether we feel like it or not. ~ Timothy Keller
Daily Practice quotes by Timothy Keller
Method rules his training, which blends the physical with the mental. How many chess masters put in, prior to an important match, an allotted time daily to bicycling and shadow-boxing, followed by a cold douche and a brisk rub down? ~ Hans Kmoch
Daily Practice quotes by Hans Kmoch
What is love but delight in another human being? He delights me daily. ~ Lois McMaster Bujold
Daily Practice quotes by Lois McMaster Bujold
As in mindfulness practice, each moment of practicing awakened awareness offers a choice-point: Do I allow myself to become distracted and get seduced back into the drama? Or do I choose the openness, clarity, disidentification, and freedom that I discovered but keep forgetting? ~ Stephan Bodian
Daily Practice quotes by Stephan Bodian
It is necessary to know ten thousand things by knowing one well. If you are to practice the way of strategy, nothing must escape your eyes.54 Reflect well on this. ~ Miyamoto Musashi
