We create our lives with words. ~ Harriet Showman
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Harriet Showman
Trap yourself inside your own brain, switch off the light, block all the escape routes, then turn your back on everything you know to be reality and try and survive there. Try. Living. Nowhere. ~ Carla H. Krueger
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Carla H. Krueger
I was extremely curious about the alternatives to the kind of life I had been leading, and my friends and I exchanged rumors and scraps of information we dug from official publications. I was struck less by the West's technological developments and high living standards than by the absence of political witch-hunts, the lack of consuming suspicion, the dignity of the individual, and the incredible amount of liberty. To me, the ultimate proof of freedom in the West was that there seemed to be so many people there attacking the West and praising China. Almost every other day the front page of Reference, the newspaper which carded foreign press items, would feature some eulogy of Mao and the Cultural Revolution. At first I was angered by these, but they soon made me see how tolerant another society could be. I realized that this was the kind of society I wanted to live in: where people were allowed to hold different, even outrageous views. I began to see that it was the very tolerance of oppositions, of protesters, that kept the West progressing.

Still, I could not help being irritated by some observations. Once I read an article by a Westerner who came to China to see some old friends, university professors, who told him cheerfully how they had enjoyed being denounced and sent to the back end of beyond, and how much they had relished being reformed. The author concluded that Mao had indeed made the Chinese into 'new people' who would regard what was misery to a Weste ~ Jung Chang
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Jung Chang
It was a flight, a kind of fleeing, a kind of falling, falling higher and higher, spinning off the edge of the earth and beyond the sun and through the vast silent vacuum where there were no burdens and where everything weighed exactly nothing. ~ Tim O'Brien
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Tim O'Brien
I wasn't free... I realized that I had been living in a birdcage all that time .. The world was so big but the'd forced me into a tiny cage ~ Hajime Isayama
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Hajime Isayama
Zen is a journey of exploration and a way of living that, in and of itself, does not belong to any one religion or tradition. It is about experiencing life in the here and now and about removing the dualistic distinctions between "I" and "you" between "subject" and "objective", between our spiritual and our ordinary, everyday activities. ~ Chris Prentiss
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Chris Prentiss
It should be considered right to live and enjoy living. To be well, happy, and to express freedom, is to be in accord with Divine Law and Wisdom. ~ Ernest Holmes
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Ernest Holmes
I'm one of those very lucky people who absolutely love what they do for a living. There is no career better suited to my eccentricities, strengths, and passions than that of a children's book author. ~ Mary Pope Osborne
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Mary Pope Osborne
There is such a thing as perfection ... and our purpose for living is to find that perfection and show it forth ... Each of us is in truth an unlimited idea of freedom. Everything that limits us we have to put aside. ~ Richard Bach
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Richard Bach
As a writer, I see the saga of your life in a single glimpse. It may be inaccurate, but my version doesn't lack for creativity. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
Aim high, but do not aim so high that you totally miss the target. What really matters is that he will love you, that he will respect you, that he will honor you, that he will be absolutely true to you, that he will give you the freedom of expression and let you fly in the development of your own talents. He is not going to be perfect, but if he is kind and thoughtful, if he knows how to work and earn a living, if he is honest and full of faith, the chances are you will not go wrong, that you will be immensely happy. ~ Gordon B. Hinckley
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Gordon B. Hinckley
It's worth pointing out that [Herman Melville] worked in [the New York Custom House] as a deputy customs inspector between 1866 and 1885. Nineteen years, and he never got a raise - four dollars a day, six days a week. He was by then a washed-up writer, forgotten and poor. I used to find this subject heartbreaking, a waste: the greatest living American author was forced to spend his days writing tariff reports instead of novels. But now, knowing what I know about the sleaze of the New York Custom House, and the honorable if bitter decency with which Melville did his job, I have come to regard literature's loss as the republic's gain. Great writers are a dime a dozen in New York. But an honest customs inspector in the Gilded Age? Unheard of. ~ Sarah Vowell
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Sarah Vowell
The way I see myself, is like I'm this Martian flower. A flower on Mars, doing my own thing; this is my own planet, don't get too near me. And maybe an astronaut will come around one day, and say, "Hey, this is a cool planet, that's a cool flower, maybe I can stay here." You know? So far, the astronauts that visit, say, "Hey this is a cool planet and that's a cool flower, I wonder what happens if I pick this flower, bring it home and teach it how to grow in my backyard soil." I'm a Martian flower. I have my own planet, my own soil, I don't need to be anything other. It's a pretty great planet, but you have to have Mars in your heart to stay here. You need to turn Martian. Martian flowers don't grow in your backyard. ~ C. JoyBell C.
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Very often in our culture, you are treated as though you have little spiritual capacity, as though you have no inherent power, and that people 'in the know' have to always liquidize your food in order for you to grow. But it is important that the true seeker understands that they must be open enough to be deeply challenged to awaken the living aspiration necessary for true freedom. To be free you are going to have to break out of the mold of personal conditioning, out of your cocoon. Each sincere seeker must be willing to undergo the necessary transformation from caterpillar consciousness to the butterfly of freedom! ~ Mooji
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Mooji
He would envy each and every living thing its freedom, even if it was only the freedom to die. ~ John Connolly
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by John Connolly
Calvin: Somewhere in Communist Russia I'll bet there's a little boy who has never known anything but censorship and oppression. But maybe he's heard of America, and he dreams of living in this land of freedom and opportunity! Someday, I'd like to meet that little boy ... and tell him the awful TRUTH ABOUT THIS PLACE!! Calvin's Dad: Calvin, be quiet and eat the stupid lima beans. ~ Bill Watterson
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Bill Watterson
After the tragedy, New Yorkers are more united than ever in their vision, as well as in appreciation what living in freedom means - and that if we stand together, we can accomplish anything. ~ George Pataki
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by George Pataki
More important than having the Courage of your Convictions is to possess the courage to question your convictions. This is a great source of freedom. There is no 'box to think outside of' with true freedom. ~ Timothy G Cameron
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Timothy G Cameron
Most of us are imprisoned by something. We're living in darkness until something flips on the switch. ~ Wynonna Judd
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Wynonna Judd

Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Lynn Lilly
The First Continental Congress made its first act a prayer, the beginning of a great tradition. We have then a lesson from the founders of our land. That lesson is clear: That in the winning of freedom and in the living of life, the first step is prayer. ~ Ronald Reagan
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Ronald Reagan
I went from living with my parents, to being signed out of high school. I have never, not had a boss, or someone else responsible for me. It is really cool as an artist to have that freedom. ~ Tyler Hilton
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Tyler Hilton
There's a magic to letting a story and its people unfold with witchcraft and late nights and walks in the woods. You don't lead a story. You follow it. ~ Kate Inglis
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Kate Inglis
I was that woman who once felt ashamed for my dreams, fantasies, and desires until I realized this is my one and only conscious experience to feel and breathe life and everything that is included. ~ Helen Edwards
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Helen Edwards
To live on a day-to-day basis is insufficient for human beings; we need to transcend, transport, escape; we need meaning, understanding, and explanation; we need to see over-all patterns in our lives. We need hope, the sense of a future. And we need freedom (or, at least, the illusion of freedom) to get beyond ourselves, whether with telescopes and microscopes and our ever-burgeoning technology, or in states of mind that allow us to travel to other worlds, to rise above our immediate surroundings.
We may seek, too, a relaxing of inhibitions that makes it easier to bond with each other, or transports that make our consciousness of time and mortality easier to bear. We seek a holiday from our inner and outer restrictions, a more intense sense of the here and now, the beauty and value of the world we live in. ~ Oliver Sacks
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Oliver Sacks
Not only was Dan Cooper likely an alias, but many people suspected at the time were people living under assumed names. The '50s and '60s were a time when some people were desperate to leave their lives. They felt trapped in their marriages or their jobs, and they were seeking freedom. And one of the ways to do that, because technology wasn't advanced as it is today, was just to take over somebody's name. ~ Geoffrey Gray
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Geoffrey Gray
Oh, God/Justin, I want to suck your cock with my cunt ... Ohhh yeaaahhh, you like that? ... ohhh, yeahhhh. ~ Teddy Roosevelt
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Teddy Roosevelt
My name," I tell Wilbur in the most dignified voice I can find, "Was inspired by Harriet Quimby, the first female American pilot and the first woman ever to cross the Channel in an aeroplane. My mother chose it to represent freedom and bravery and independence, and she gave it to me just before she died."
There's a short pause while Wilbur looks appropriately moved. Then Dad says, "Who told you that?"
"Annabel did."
"Well, it's not true at all. You were named after Harriet the tortoise, the second longest living tortoise in the world."
There's a silence while I stare at Dad and Annabel puts her head in her hands so abruptly that the pen starts to leak into her collar. "Richard," she moans quietly.
"A tortoise?" I repeat in dismay. "I'm named after a tortoise? What the hell is a tortoise supposed to represent?"
"Longevity? ~ Holly Smale

The internet is killing the art of writing. The big "publish" button begs you to publish even before you go back and make one single edit, and as if this was not enough, you have instant readers who praise your writing skills!- ~ Bangambiki Habyarimana
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Bangambiki Habyarimana
LIVE like someone, somewhere is always monitoring your existence, 'because they are - some wise who are living know all too well that freedom and rest are truly deeded in the mental realm of those blessed to take up residence there - for there is no monitoring system needed from the grave... ~ Tracey Bond
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Tracey Bond
It is mental slavery to cling to things that have stopped serving it's purpose in your life. ~ Chinonye J. Chidolue
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Chinonye J. Chidolue
Henry knew better than to want freedom. The only life worth living was the unfree life, the life Schwartz had taught him, the life in which you were chained to your one true wish, the wish to be simple and perfect. Then the days were sky-blue spaces you moved through with ease. You made sacrifices and the sacrifices made sense. You ate till you were full and then you drank SuperBoost, because every ounce of muscle meant something. You stoked the furnace, fed the machine. No matter how hard you worked, you could never feel harried or hurried, because you were doing what you wanted and so one moment simply produced the next. ~ Chad Harbach
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Chad Harbach
I think I appeal to people who are living in the margins because of their identity and who need to feel freedom somewhere. ~ Margaret Cho
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Margaret Cho
Enlightenment is living in the light of cosmic collaboration. Collaboration gives us the freedom to come out of the boundaries of limited realities. ~ Amit Ray
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Amit Ray
When I think about what it would take to achieve freedom from all psychological stuff, the response that comes is this: life is about stuff. Stuff is part of being alive. There is no way out of this while you are still living. There will be confusion, pain, miscommunication, misinterpretation, maladaptive patterns of behavior, unhelpful emotional reactions, weird personality traits, neurosis and possibly much worse. There will be power plays, twisted psychological games, people with major personality disorders (which may include you), and craziness. The injuries continue right along with the healing and eventually the injuries win and we die. This is a fundamental teaching of the Buddha. I wish the whole Western Buddhist World would just get over this notion that these practices are all about getting to our Happy Place where nothing can ever hurt us or make us neurotic and move on to actually mastering real Buddhist practice rather than chasing some ideal that will never appear. ~ Daniel M. Ingram
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Daniel M. Ingram
I come from a political family. My father was a freedom fighter. He was a prominent leader of the locality and member of the Congress party. He spent 10 years in British prisons. In the evening, in our living room, the only subject we used to discuss was politics. So politics was not unfamiliar to me. ~ Pranab Mukherjee
Creativity Author Living Freedom quotes by Pranab Mukherjee
And so, what of it all? What of me and my passions and personas, my great loves and failures of love, my writing, my politics? What of the clanging opinions, the endless queries as to the whys and wherefores of how I chose to conduct myself? In the end, there is but one answer to every question, whether it is spit at me or made as gentlest inquiry: I was I. ~ Elizabeth Berg
