President David O. McKay put it beautifully when he said, speaking of mothers, 'This ability and willingness properly to rear children, the gift to love, and eagerness, yes, longing to express it in soul development, make motherhood the noblest office or calling in the world ... ' (Gospel Ideals, Salt Lake City: Improvement Era, 1953, pp. 453-54). ~ H. Burke Peterson
Coheeries Lake quotes by H. Burke Peterson
You have the nicest window, you know? None of the others can even compete. It´s not flashy like the others, or bleary – your window gives of this nice, quiet light. ~ Banana Yoshimoto
Coheeries Lake quotes by Banana Yoshimoto
Q: Which party had wildest celebration and how did it play out?

1) The 1972 Dolphins Super Bowl watching party for the David Tyree catch?

2) The Jack Nicklaus day after Thanksgiving morning in 2009?

3) The NFL referee Monday night football watching party at Ed Hochuli's house for the Seattle/Green Bay game?
- Steve G., Salt Lake City

SG: Here's my theory on the day after Thanksgiving in 2009: I think Jack Nicklaus heard the news, went out and bought a bottle of 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle, found an antique shotgun with 300 rounds of ammo, then drove to a secluded spot in the woods 25 miles away from any other human being. He got out of his car, started jumping around and screaming like he won the Super Bowl, did this for 20 solid minutes, then started swigging whiskey and shooting at things while whooping it up. Eventually, he drank the entire bottle, got back into his car and just started happily ramming into trees until the car stopped moving. Then he passed out in the driver's seat, woke up the next morning and walked home. Anyway, my answer is Jack Nicklaus. ~ Bill Simmons Grantland Mailbag Oct. 28 2012
Coheeries Lake quotes by Bill Simmons Grantland Mailbag Oct. 28 2012
Passing just lately over this lake, ... and examining this water next day, I found floating therein divers earthy particles, and some green streaks, spirally wound serpent-wise, and orderly arranged, after the manner of the copper or tin worms, which distillers use to cool their liquors as they distil over. The whole circumference of each of these streaks was about the thickness of a hair of one's head ... all consisted of very small green globules joined together: and there were very many small green globules as well. [The earliest recorded observation of the common green alga Spyrogyra.] ~ Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek
Coheeries Lake quotes by Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek
The negatives he did manage were made in the hour or two when the sun seemed to rally with a yellowy light reminiscent of an egg yolk; usually, it looked pale as a pearl on the steely blue or leaden sky above the snow-scrubbed lake. That's a purple passage fit for a novel but hardly descriptive of the actuality of that winter, which was almost past enduring. ~ Norman Lock
Coheeries Lake quotes by Norman Lock
One could call a master a good master because he did not whip his slaves, but ultimately he was still and owner of men, and men were not made to be owned. ~ Nick Lake
Coheeries Lake quotes by Nick Lake
I brush her hair out of her eyes and run my finger along the edge of her face. "I love you, Lake."
"Say it again," she says.
I kiss her forehead and repeat what I said. "I love you, Lake."
"One more time."
"I." I kiss her lips. "And love." I kiss them again. "And you."
"I love you, too. ~ Colleen Hoover
Coheeries Lake quotes by Colleen Hoover
If you don't drink coffee, I am suspicious of your character and will not invite you to my Italian lake home. ~ George Clooney
Coheeries Lake quotes by George Clooney
Fisherman looks for the fish in the middle of a mysterious misty lake; mankind looks for the meaning of life in the middle of a mysterious cold space! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Coheeries Lake quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
Nothing so fair, so pure, and at the same time so large, as a lake, perchance, lies on the surface of the earth. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Coheeries Lake quotes by Henry David Thoreau
When you play music with someone who has a heart rather than playing with someone who is just doing it for money or is cynical it makes all the difference. ~ Greg Lake
Coheeries Lake quotes by Greg Lake
The notion of the writer as a kind of sociological sample of a community is ludicrous. Even worse is the notion that writers should provide an example of how to live. Virginia Woolf ended her life by putting a rock in her sweater one day and walking into a lake. She is not a model of how I want to live my life. On the other hand, the bravery of her syntax, of her sentences, written during her deepest depression, is a kind of example for me. But I do not want to become Virginia Woolf. That is not why I read her. ~ Richard Rodriguez
Coheeries Lake quotes by Richard Rodriguez
I am personally saddened and stunned by the tragic events that took place in Red Lake. ~ Collin C. Peterson
Coheeries Lake quotes by Collin C. Peterson
The evening advanced. The shadows lengthened. The waters of the lake grew pitchy black. The gliding of the ghostly swans became rare and more rare. ~ Wilkie Collins
Coheeries Lake quotes by Wilkie Collins
Any time, any place? I ask, gazing out across the glittering lake.
A breeze disturbs it's silver surface. In a heartbeat, Phoenix promises. ~ Eden Maguire
Coheeries Lake quotes by Eden Maguire
He plunged beneath the surface and knew that these were Elyon's waters, and his lake had no bottom. ~ Ted Dekker
Coheeries Lake quotes by Ted Dekker
This lake exceeds anything I ever beheld in beauty. ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley
Coheeries Lake quotes by Percy Bysshe Shelley
The Colorado River was at a record low and the towers in Lake Mead stood high out of the water. But the Angelenos committed communal suicide by watering lawns as usual. ~ Robert A. Heinlein
Coheeries Lake quotes by Robert A. Heinlein
Who Am I meditation is allowing the mind to drop and settled in the inner being like a falling leaf of a tall tree. It is like observing the full moon in a silent lake, where there is no ripple, ~ Amit Ray
Coheeries Lake quotes by Amit Ray
Down the street, tree branches strung in purple Halloween lights began to shudder and sway. Dusty whirlwinds rose from the ground, and from the north came a great rush of wind.
From Congo Square, she thought. Where the slaves danced and sang.
"...and St. Louis Cemetery," whispered in her ear.
The wind blew as cold as the icy breath of Lake Superior. Blowing veins seizured round the wrought iron gate. Yet the music continued. The only one oblivious to the sudden shift in the air--as if she were expecting it--was Angelique, who continued her dance, face to the sky. As though nothing had changed, though everything had. ~ Eve Wallinga
Coheeries Lake quotes by Eve Wallinga
The morning commuters began to animate the distant South Lake Tahoe roads. But craning your head back, you could see the day's blue darken halfway across the sky, and to the west, the night remained yet unconquered - pitch-black, stars in full glimmer, the full moon still pinned in the sky. To the east, the full light of day beamed toward you; to the west, night reigned with no hint of surrender. No philosopher can explain the sublime better than this, standing between day and night. It was as if this were the moment God said, "Let there be light!" You could not help but feel your specklike existence against the immensity of the mountain, the earth, the universe, and yet still feel your own two feet on the talus, reaffirming your presence amid the grandeur. ~ Paul Kalanithi
Coheeries Lake quotes by Paul Kalanithi
For the contented man, lake is an ocean; for the discontented one, ocean is a lake! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Coheeries Lake quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
I drift through forests in my dreams, I swim the lake I imagine for myself when I'm sad. It's so blue and clear. I scoop some water into my hands as I tread water and I can see right through it, almost as if it's air. Tiny, luminescent fish live at the bottom of the pool and wink at me as I swim naked and free above them, my hair spilling out around me. ~ Sarah Michelle Lynch
Coheeries Lake quotes by Sarah Michelle Lynch
I celebrated [my 50th birthday] by throwing a big bowl on the pottery wheel, then going for a water ski at the lake on our property in the Catskills, and that night, skinny-dipping under the stars. Just being free and joyful. And that's how I [felt] about turning 50. ~ Marcia Gay Harden
Coheeries Lake quotes by Marcia Gay Harden
And then we would sit and watch as the first hint of sunlight, a light tinge of day blue, would leak out of the eastern horizon, slowly erasing the stars. The day sky would spread wide and high, until the first ray of the sun made an appearance. It was as if this were the moment God said, "Let there be light!" You. ~ Paul Kalanithi
Coheeries Lake quotes by Paul Kalanithi
Handcuffs. Freaking handcuffs.
What are you doing with those?
Handcuffing you.
No, I mean why do you have them in the first place?
I'm saving them for a rainy day. These are new actually. It's like a "thinking of you" gift because I was thinking of you when I bought them. ~ B.B. Reid
Coheeries Lake quotes by B.B. Reid
Living things don't all require
light in the same degree. Some of us
make our own light: a silver leaf
like a path no one can use, a shallow
lake of silver in the darkness under the great maples.
But you know this already.
You and the others who think
you live for truth and, by extension, love
all that is cold. ~ Louise Gluck
Coheeries Lake quotes by Louise Gluck
But he was wise enough even at twenty to see that what many would call an utter and admirable freedom was also a sort of thicket or wilderness, in which, by virtue of being able to take any path he chose, he was lost in a dense jungle of the possible, the sheer welter of which sometimes overwhelmed him. The irony was, he thought, that as soon as you chose a path, you mourned and regretted the ones that you did not choose; but to choose none was to moon uselessly over them all, and thus be imprisoned by impasse. How very many people, he thought as he walked through the catchbirdtrees by the lake, were frozen by the weight of their potential, the imposing alps of their dreams? ~ Brian Doyle
Coheeries Lake quotes by Brian Doyle
A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature. The fluviatile trees next the shore are the slender eyelashes which fringe it, and the wooded hills and cliffs around are its overhanging brows. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Coheeries Lake quotes by Henry David Thoreau
Moonlight beams through his eyelids and he can see, as if it's the lake in front of him, the pain and loss he's been swimming in for years. In the moonlight, though, the pain is revealed to be love. The emotions are entwined; they are the two sides of the same gleaming coin. ~ Ann Napolitano
Coheeries Lake quotes by Ann Napolitano
Lake Pend Oreille is definitely my favorite place to be while in Sandpoint. I love to get out on a boat to enjoy water sports, camping, fishing, or just to relax and catch a sunset. ~ Nate Holland
Coheeries Lake quotes by Nate Holland
He lifted his head and stared at me with a dark look in his eyes. You taste sweeter than you pretend to be. ~ B.B. Reid
Coheeries Lake quotes by B.B. Reid
Your lives have always been about the Great Romance, and in the days to come you will understand that like never before. Your love will be tested. Others will join you. Some will leave the circle. Some will die. All of you will suffer. The Horde will hate you because their hearts have been stolen and their eyes have been blinded by the Shataiki. But if you keep your eyes on me until the end ... the lake will seem tame compared to what awaits us. ~ Ted Dekker
Coheeries Lake quotes by Ted Dekker
If you give a boy a lake and a log he will very rapidly invent the ship. ~ Patrick Brophy
Coheeries Lake quotes by Patrick Brophy
Although it was only six o'clock, the night was already dark. The fog, made thicker by its proximity to the Seine, blurred every detail with its ragged veils, punctured at various distances by the reddish glow of lanterns and bars of light escaping from illuminated windows. The road was soaked with rain and glittered under the street-lamps, like a lake reflecting strings of lights. A bitter wind, heavy with icy particles, whipped at my face, its howling forming the high notes of a symphony whose bass was played by swollen waves crashing into the piers of the bridges below. The evening lacked none of winter's rough poetry. ~ Theophile Gautier
Coheeries Lake quotes by Theophile Gautier
I stood beside the U-Haul, and I just watched her. I stared at her while she looked on with the saddest look in her eyes. I wanted to know what she was thinking about, what was going on in her head. What had mad her so sad? I wanted to hug her so bad. When she finally got out of the U-Haul and I introduced myself to her, it took all I had to let go of her hand. I wanted to hold on to it forever. I wanted to let her know that she wasn't alone. Whatever burden it was that she was carrying around, I wanted to carry it for her. I wish I could, Lake. I wish I could take it all away. Unfortunately, that's not how it works. It doesn't just go away. ~ Colleen Hoover
