In my opinion, anyone who claims to speak for God is probably talking out of the wrong end, anyway. ~ Martha Brockenbrough
Close Mindedness quotes by Martha Brockenbrough
I'm socially impaired. I get surprised all the time by people saying and doing irrational things. Take gay marriage. Why would some people get so upset that people they didn't even know wanted to get married?"
"For the same reason men denied women the vote for so long. It threatens their status and their understanding of the world."
She beamed, delighted that he saw it, too. "That's right! I had to think and think to figure that out. Though I still don't see why they're so scared of changing their minds."
"Because the world is a dangerous place. If it doesn't work the way we believe it does, the danger becomes unmanageable. ~ Eileen Wilks
Close Mindedness quotes by Eileen Wilks
One of the biggest contradictions in self-proclaimed open-mindedness is to say that we're all one but when a true bigot comes around tell him we're all different. It's usually the case that neither side is correct. One might have the right to do something, anything, but sure enough, that doesn't mean it's right and a benefit to other people. ~ Criss Jami
Close Mindedness quotes by Criss Jami
To be more precise about it, it is neither close nor open-mindedness but wisdom, discernment, and a pure heart that God wants. ~ Criss Jami
Close Mindedness quotes by Criss Jami
To me, anything that is a church is really just far too close minded. ~ Marilyn Manson
Close Mindedness quotes by Marilyn Manson
...few truly understood how disheartening it was to be cut off from worlds so strange and distant they remained to us fantasies rather than distant realities, too surreal and foreign to be touched. Their minds were fixated on what they knew to be real, unable to create the atmospheres of the nebulous realms that lay just beyond our reach, just beyond the dimming horizon, our celestial limits. ~ Moonshine Noire
Close Mindedness quotes by Moonshine Noire
As people's opportunities to succumb to confirmation bias increases online - only seeking out information that confirms their prejudices - ignorance, extremism and close-mindedness have continued to rise unabated. ~ Maajid Nawaz
Close Mindedness quotes by Maajid Nawaz
Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Close Mindedness quotes by Benjamin Franklin
One day the world will be so badly wounded that those who try to repair it will only be called "close-minded. ~ Danielle Valenilla
Close Mindedness quotes by Danielle Valenilla
A mind set in its ways is wasted. Don't do it. ~ Eric Schmidt
Close Mindedness quotes by Eric Schmidt
Closing your mind to religion is no different than the close-mindedness that religions can cause. ~ Carlton Mellick III
Close Mindedness quotes by Carlton Mellick III
To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture. ~ Thomas Paine
Close Mindedness quotes by Thomas Paine
People who make up their minds about something never listen to advice - especially when it's to the contrary. ~ Steven Erikson
Close Mindedness quotes by Steven Erikson
Pride is a fallacy. None of us are greater than the sum of our parts. ~ Eric Hirzel
Close Mindedness quotes by Eric Hirzel
The strength of one's opinion should not exceed their knowledge on the matter. ~ Eric Hirzel
Close Mindedness quotes by Eric Hirzel
Blind certainty, a close-mindedness that amounts to an imprisonment so total that the prisoner doesn't even know he's locked up. ~ David Foster
Close Mindedness quotes by David Foster
They were awfully close there by the fire," Mom says. "I was watching out the window." There's a quiet pause. "Did she let him touch her?" "No, but she touched him." He heaves a sigh. "She didn't even try to punch him in the throat." Fine. I can be a little aggressive. It all started after my attack with some self-defense classes. Then I realized I'm really good at martial arts. I can't help if it some people make me want to drop-kick them. "That's a start," Mom hums. I shake my head. I'm not starting anything. He's just a man that doesn't make me want to run in the other direction. That's all he is. He's nothing more than that. It's strange, because if I judged him based solely on his appearance, I'd be running away as fast as I could. "He's a good kid, it looks like," Dad says on a heavy sigh. "He made a stupid mistake." "He's kind of hot with all the tattoos," Mom says. She giggles, and I hear my dad growl. She shrieks, and I walk away. They don't need an audience for that part. ~ Tammy Falkner
Close Mindedness quotes by Tammy Falkner
His eyes were above hers, and she saw that the golden-hazel irises were rimmed with black. "Miss Hathaway ... you're quite certain fate had no hand in our meeting tonight?"
She couldn't seem to breathe properly. "Qu-quite certain."
His head bent low. "And in all likelihood we'll never meet again?"
"Never." He was too large, too close. Nervously Amelia tried to marshal her thoughts, but they scattered like spilled matchsticks ... and then he set fire to them as his breath touched her cheek.
"I hope you're right. God help me if I should ever have to face the consequences."
"Of what?" Her voice was faint.
"This." His hand slid to the back of her neck and his mouth covered hers. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Close Mindedness quotes by Lisa Kleypas
Sometimes My blessings come to you in mysterious ways: through pain and trouble. At such times you can know My goodness only through your trust in Me. Understanding will fail you, but trust will keep you close to Me. ~ Sarah Young
Close Mindedness quotes by Sarah Young
It was very still. The tree was tall and straggling. It had thrown its briers over a hawthorn-bush, and its long streamers trailed thick, right down to the grass, splashing the darkness everywhere with great spilt stars, pure white. In bosses of ivory and in large splashed stars the roses gleamed on the darkness of foliage and stems and grass. Paul and Miriam stood close together, silent, and watched. Point after point the steady roses shone out to them, seeming to kindle something in their souls. The dusk came like smoke around, and still did not put out the roses. ~ D.H. Lawrence
Close Mindedness quotes by D.H. Lawrence
Wise men perish,
senseless men perish.
Death, the great equalizer
comes for both, takes both,
as eternity draws close,
and Christ comes forth. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Close Mindedness quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
The purpose of rock n' roll is to convince girls to pay money to get close to you. ~ Richard Hell
Close Mindedness quotes by Richard Hell
Time is so much a part of what makes you close to people. ~ Ethan Hawke
Close Mindedness quotes by Ethan Hawke
Additions like to enter without knocking, you just have to close the door for good ... ~ Alen Sargsyan
Close Mindedness quotes by Alen Sargsyan
Sometimes, even those whom we consider as our close friends may betray us so easily, in a moment when we do not even expect it. Such is the truth of life, despite so many eloquent odes humanity dedicated to friendship. ~ Sahara Sanders
Close Mindedness quotes by Sahara Sanders
How much more relevant could God be than to be a provider of food for life? What good is religion if it cannot feed the hungry? Satan was perilously and painfully close to a truth. But it was a half-truth, and a half-truth gets so interwoven with a lie that it becomes deadlier by the mix. Ask yourself this question: What kind of a following would result if the sole reason for the affection toward the leader is that he provides his followers with bread? Both motives would be wrong - for the provider and the receiver. These are the terms of reward and punishment that are mercenarily tainted and have diminishing returns, at best engendering compliance, but not love. Their appeal, too, is soon lost when offered as enticements or when withheld to engender fears. Dependence without commitment will ever look for ways to break the stranglehold. The ~ Ravi Zacharias
Close Mindedness quotes by Ravi Zacharias
And then, one Saturday morning, I came down to breakfast, and it all came to a head when she flat-out told me that I wasn't going to training.
Straw met camel's back. Breaking commenced.
"You have no right to tell me - "
"You do not want to finish that sentence, missy. You want to sit down, close your mouth, and eat."
"How am I supposed to eat with my mouth closed?"
"Bryn, that's enough. ~ Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Close Mindedness quotes by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Part of the joy of looking at art is getting in sync in some ways with the decision-making process that the artist used and the record that's embedded in the work. ~ Chuck Close
Close Mindedness quotes by Chuck Close
Elliot slid to the floor, panting. Ilyas pulled him close. They held each other for a moment. It was as pure a second of time as any Ilyas could recall, and he wished he could freeze it, trap it to savour forever. ~ Astrid Amara
Close Mindedness quotes by Astrid Amara
He smiled then, a slow smile that sent the blood racing through her veins. Lora felt the throbbing inside her intensify until she was sure she would not be able to stand it another second as he slowly, oh, so slowly, lowered his head. His target was her left breast. Lora felt his hot mouth close on the straining nipple, felt him tug the crest of her breast into his mouth to rub it with the rough wet surface of his tongue, and cried out in a frenzy of need.
And in that instant he took her.
She climaxed at once as he squeezed inside, enormous and hard and fiery hot and filling her to bursting. ~ Karen Robards
Close Mindedness quotes by Karen Robards
Stories never told,
disappeared in the dawn mist
and sunset blaze.
Like a movie kiss,
not real,
but still overwhelms and entices lustfulness,
turns me into pleasure
and a connoisseur of love.

Flying to the heavens above
followed by the yearning hope
that you will always be close to me,
that you will not disperse when
we revel in one another.

Secrets to be kept in one of these terracotta walls
that fade away through the dusk,
feeling the scented candles of musk,
just you and I,
two rebels of love,
that challenge the logic, the meaning, and sense. ~ Tatjana Ostojic
Close Mindedness quotes by Tatjana Ostojic
He and his mother weren't close and never had been, really. In this, as in so much else in his life, Jess was alone ~ Rachel Caine
Close Mindedness quotes by Rachel Caine
The Perfect Way is only difficult for those who pick and choose;
Do not like, do not dislike; all will then be clear.
Make a hairbreadth difference, and Heaven and Earth are set apart;
If you want the truth to stand clear before you, never be for or against.
The struggle between 'for' and 'against' is the mind's worst disease; ~ Sengcan
Close Mindedness quotes by Sengcan
I learned a lot about the images of pornography and how much they dealt with close-up, when a person is at their most vulnerable and having to reveal details about themselves. I wanted to combine the eternal in two different manners. There is the biological eternal - here is our species reproducing - and then the transparent, spiritual aspect of it. ~ Jeff Koons
Close Mindedness quotes by Jeff Koons
Robert Jordan saw them there on the slope, close to him now, and below he saw the road and the bridge and the long lines of vehicles below it. He was completely integrated now and he took a good long look at everything. Then he looked up at the sky. There were big white clouds in it. He touched the palm of his hand against the pine needles where he lay and he touched the bark of the pine trunk that he lay behind ... He was waiting until the officer reached the sunlit place where the first trees of the pine forest joined the green slope of the meadow. He could feel his heart beating against the pine needle floor of the forest. ~ Ernest Hemingway,
Close Mindedness quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
28 a A dishonest man spreads strife, and b a whisperer c separates close friends. ~ Anonymous
Close Mindedness quotes by Anonymous
I slid closer, feeling his arms close around me, tightening. Our lips touched
"Derek?" his dad called. "Chloe?" Derek let out a growl. I laughed and backed up. "We seem to get a lot of that, don't we?" I said. "Too much. After we eat, we're going for a walk. A long walk. Far from every possible interruption." I grinned up at him. "Sounds like a plan ~ Kelley Armstrong
Close Mindedness quotes by Kelley Armstrong
My slumbers
if I slumber
are not sleep,
But a continuance of enduring thought,
Which then I can resist not: in my heart
There is a vigil, and these eyes but close
To look within; and yet I live, and bear
The aspect and the form of breathing men. ~ George Gordon Byron
Close Mindedness quotes by George Gordon Byron
Little sleek crisp flaxen wig, setting very close to his head: which wig, it is to be presumed, was made of hair, but which looked far more as though it were spun from filaments of silk or glass. His linen, though not of a fineness in accordance with his stockings, was as white as the tops of the waves that broke upon the neighbouring beach, or the specks of sail that glinted ~ Charles Dickens
Close Mindedness quotes by Charles Dickens
I wanted [photography] to be more than a document, to be something that is as close as you could possibly be to the subject. ~ Chris Killip
Close Mindedness quotes by Chris Killip
Then you showed up on my doorstep, all good-looking and bleeding and..."

We were in front of my door now. He stepped up and draped his hand on the door above me. Leaned in just a fraction shy of intimate distance. Close enough I could feel the heat of him, smell the warm notes of the cologne he wore.

"Good-looking and what?" he asked with a burr in his voice that gave me shivers.
"And I couldn't leave you bleeding."
"For that, I should thank you." He moved just a half inch closer, his mouth opening slightly on a smile. "Thoroughly," he added. Then, "Unfortunately, I have other pressing matters to attend."

He reached behind me and was skillful enough that we didn't even touch as he opened the door. He leaned back so I wouldn't fall through it by accident and pointed at the room. "I do hope you will refrain from running out for another cup of coffee or starting an in-House war for the next few hours."

(...)"Sure," I said, trying not to sound hot or bothered. "For the next few hours anyway." I smiled innocently. ~ Devon Monk
Close Mindedness quotes by Devon Monk
Times were changing in the world of id. They had finally fired Jason, narrowing the group to Carmack, Romero, Adrian, and Tom. But something else was in the air. The Reagan-Bush era was finally coming to a close and a new spirit rising. It began in Seattle, where a sloppily dressed grunge rock trio called Nirvana ousted Michael Jackson from the top of the pop charts with their album Nevermind. Soon grunge and hip-hop were dominating the world with more brutal and honest views. Id was braced to do for games what those artists had done for music: overthrow the status quo. Games until this point had been ruled by their own equivalent of pop, in the form of Mario and Pac-Man. Unlike music, the software industry had never experienced anything as rebellious as Wolfenstein 3-D. The ~ David Kushner
Close Mindedness quotes by David Kushner
I cannot understand why we idle discussing religion. If we are honest - and scientists have to be - we must admit that religion is a jumble of false assertions, with no basis in reality. The very idea of God is a product of the human imagination. It is quite understandable why primitive people, who were so much more exposed to the overpowering forces of nature than we are today, should have personified these forces in fear and trembling. But nowadays, when we understand so many natural processes, we have no need for such solutions. I can't for the life of me see how the postulate of an Almighty God helps us in any way. What I do see is that this assumption leads to such unproductive questions as why God allows so much misery and injustice, the exploitation of the poor by the rich and all the other horrors He might have prevented. If religion is still being taught, it is by no means because its ideas still convince us, but simply because some of us want to keep the lower classes quiet. Quiet people are much easier to govern than clamorous and dissatisfied ones. They are also much easier to exploit. Religion is a kind of opium that allows a nation to lull itself into wishful dreams and so forget the injustices that are being perpetrated against the people. Hence the close alliance between those two great political forces, the State and the Church. Both need the illusion that a kindly God rewards - in heaven if not on earth - all those who have not risen up against injustice, wh ~ Paul A.M. Dirac
Close Mindedness quotes by Paul A.M. Dirac
I find, by close observation, that the mothers are the levers which move in education. The men talk about it ... but the women work most for it. ~ Frances Harper
Close Mindedness quotes by Frances Harper
The beauty of diversification is it's about as close as you can get to a free lunch in investing. ~ Barry Ritholtz
Close Mindedness quotes by Barry Ritholtz
He glanced over at me. 'Scared? Of Reggie? What, she thinks he might force her to give up caffeine for real or something?'
'No,' I said.
'Of what, then?' he asked.
I paused, only just now realizing that the subject was hitting a little close to home. 'You know, getting hurt. Putting herself out there, opening up to someone.'
'Yeah,' he said, adding some cheese straws to the car, but risk is just part of relationships. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.'
I picked up a box of cheese straws, examinig it. 'Yeah,' I said. 'But it's not all about chance, either.'
'Meaning what?' he asked, taking the box from me and adding the rest.
'Just that, if you know ahead of time that there might an issue that dooms everything- like, say, you're incredibly controlling and independent, like Harriet- maybe it's better to acknowledge that and not waste your time. Or someone else's. ~ Sarah Dessen
Close Mindedness quotes by Sarah Dessen
As a film director I like to have the actors create their own close-ups. It's an older style of filmmaking. ~ Stanley Tucci
Close Mindedness quotes by Stanley Tucci
Wolsey and Henry VIII, it has to be said, were not exceptional in their love of the table. The English of Tudor times had a reputation throughout Europe for gluttony. Indeed, overeating was regarded as the English vice in the same way that lust was the French one and drunkenness that of the Germans (although looking at the amount of alcohol consumed in England, I expect the English probably ran a close second to the Germans). ~ Clarissa Dickson Wright
Close Mindedness quotes by Clarissa Dickson Wright
Life is sacrifice and risk taking, and nothing that doesn't entail some moderate amount of the former, under the constraint of satisfying the latter, is close to what we can call life. If you do not undertake a risk of real harm, reparable or even potentially irreparable, from an adventure, it is not an adventure. ~ Nassim Nicholas Taleb
Close Mindedness quotes by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
Close to the Edge by Yes. Such a fun tune to play on bass. ~ Brian Acton
Close Mindedness quotes by Brian Acton
The man of large and conspicuous public service in civil life must be content without the Presidency. Still more, the availability of a popular man in a doubtful State will secure him the prize in a close contest against the first statesman of the country whose State is safe. ~ Rutherford B. Hayes
Close Mindedness quotes by Rutherford B. Hayes
We debate sometimes what is to be the future of this nation when we think that in a few years public affairs may be in the hands of the fin-de-siecle gilded youths we see about us during the Christmas holidays. Such foppery, such luxury, such insolence, was surely never practiced by the scented, overbearing patricians of the Palatine, even in Rome's most decadent epoch. In all the wild orgy of wastefulness and luxury with which the nineteenth century reaches its close, the gilded youth has been surely the worst symptom. ~ Booth Tarkington
Close Mindedness quotes by Booth Tarkington
He slid back again into his earlier position. "This getting up early," he thought, "makes a man quite idiotic. A man must have his sleep. Other travelling salesmen live like harem women. For instance, when I come back to the inn during the course of the morning to write up the necessary orders, these gentlemen are just sitting down to breakfast. If I were to try that with my boss, I'd be thrown out on the spot. Still, who knows whether that mightn't be really good for me? If I didn't hold back for my parents' sake, I'd have quit ages ago. I would've gone to the boss and told him just what I think from the bottom of my heart. He would've fallen right off his desk! How weird it is to sit up at that desk and talk down to the employee from way up there. The boss has trouble hearing, so the employee has to step up quite close to him. Anyway, I haven't completely given up that hope yet. Once I've got together the money to pay off my parents' debt to him - that should take another five or six years - I'll do it for sure. Then I'll make the big break. In any case, right now I have to get up. My train leaves at five o'clock ~ Franz Kafka
Close Mindedness quotes by Franz Kafka
They'll care for each other, she says. That's what people do. I smile and close my eyes. ~ Veronica Roth
Close Mindedness quotes by Veronica Roth
Do the routine for me. Please, Livie. I love you. I'm sorry I poisoned your boyfriend. I'm the one who made him so cute, though. You have to forgive me, Livia. I'm so bad." Kyle looked close to tears.
"He barfed and now he's fine," Livia said. "You know I love you, and you're not bad, you just make bad choices. Do I still have to do the routine?"
Kyle smiled and wrinkled her nose. "Oh, yes. The routine must happen. Assume the position."
Kyle bounced out of Livia's arms and gave Lorraine what must have been the universal hand gesture for I just tricked my sister into humiliating herself. Start the music before she runs. ~ Debra Anastasia
Close Mindedness quotes by Debra Anastasia
This is the first fall that I haven't gone to school. Maybe that's why I feel weird all the time. ~ Jennifer Close
Close Mindedness quotes by Jennifer Close
But after a moment a sense of waste and ruin overcame him. There they were, close together and safe and shut in; yet so chained to their separate destinies that they might as well been half the world apart. ~ Edith Wharton
Close Mindedness quotes by Edith Wharton
What is the key word today? Disposable. The more you can throw it away the more it's beautiful. The car, the furniture, the wife, the children - everything has to be disposable. Because you see the main thing today is - shopping. Years ago a person, he was unhappy, didn't know what to do with himself - he'd go to church, start a revolution - something. Today you're unhappy? Can't figure it out? What is the salvation? Go shopping ...
... If they would close the stores for six months in this country there would be from coast to coast a regular massacre. ~ Arthur Miller
Close Mindedness quotes by Arthur Miller
When you're so happy that you have to close your eyes when you smile so that your eyes don't jump out of your head ~ Tori Kelly
Close Mindedness quotes by Tori Kelly
I believe that if it were possible to scrap the whole of existing literature, all writers would find themselves inevitably producing something very close to SF ... No other form of fiction has the vocabulary of ideas and images to deal with the present, let alone the future. ~ J.G. Ballard
Close Mindedness quotes by J.G. Ballard
We can't encourage narrow mindedness, for no nation can be great whose people are narrow in thought. ~ Jawaharlal Nehru
Close Mindedness quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru
ESTRAGON:
Do you think God sees me?
VLADIMIR:
You must close your eyes.
Estragon closes his eyes, staggers worse.
ESTRAGON:
(stopping, brandishing his fists, at the top of his voice.) God have pity on me!
VLADIMIR:
(vexed). And me?
ESTRAGON:
On me! On me! Pity! On me! ~ Samuel Beckett
Close Mindedness quotes by Samuel Beckett
How are you, Rory?' [the Doctor] asked.
I [Rory] ... answered him. 'It's been odd being you.'
'Isn't it?' The Doctor's smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
'How do you cope?'
'Ah ... ' The Doctor picked away at a scrap of loose paint on the door. 'Well, I just get as close as I can to a happy ending, then I shut the door behind me and move on.'
I nodded.
We shut the door behind us and moved on. ~ James Goss
Close Mindedness quotes by James Goss
Being concerned about other people is especially relevant in today's world. If we consider the complex inter-connected ness of our modern lives, how we depend on others and others depend on us, our outlook will change. We'll begin to see 'others' not as somehow distant from us, but as people we are in touch with, people close to us; we will no longer feel indifferent to them. ~ Dalai Lama
