Sir, I've known him ever since he was born! We've played snowball, and built snow-houses together, which are called igloos, and once, when one of Santa's reindeer was sick on Christmas Eve, Snow Bear stepped in to help with the presents, and load them on the sleigh - he's very kind, and clever, and strong, you know. ~ Suzy Davies
Christmas Books quotes by Suzy Davies
People say I don't write books, I make Christmas presents. ~ Bryce Courtenay
Christmas Books quotes by Bryce Courtenay
The shelves were supposed to be loaded with books - but they were, of course, really doors: each book-lid opened as exciting as Alice putting her gold key in the lock. I spent days running in and out of other worlds like a time bandit, or a spy. I was as excited as I've ever been in my life, in that library: scoring new books the minute they came in; ordering books I'd heard of - then waiting, fevered, for them to arrive, like they were the word Christmas. ~ Caitlin Moran
Christmas Books quotes by Caitlin Moran
Don't give me books for Christmas; I already have a book. ~ Jean Harlow
Christmas Books quotes by Jean Harlow
Certain corpuscles, denominated Christmas Books, with the ostensible intention of swelling the tide of exhilaration, or other expansive emotions, incident upon the exodus of the old and the inauguration of the New Year. ~ William Makepeace Thackeray
Christmas Books quotes by William Makepeace Thackeray
I am always amazed by the novel angles that people come up with for kids' Christmas books. Even if a family is not religious, who could resist, say, "Olive, the Other Reindeer," about Olive the dog who thinks the song refers to her and heads for the North Pole to help Santa out? ~ Jabari Asim
Christmas Books quotes by Jabari Asim
The message of the season is not, "Let it snow" or even, "Let us shop." The real message of Christmas is, "Let us worship." That is what the wise men came to do. And that is what we should be doing as well. ~ Greg Laurie
Christmas Books quotes by Greg Laurie
The Books of Lamentations and Ezekiel are located on both ends of the West and the East on the circular zodiac of Dendera. ~ Ibrahim Ibrahim
Christmas Books quotes by Ibrahim Ibrahim
I guess you could say I'm 'kind' to my past books in the way you might be kind to an old boyfriend you still quite like and bear no grudge against but with whom have absolutely no interest in getting back together. ~ Lynn Coady
Christmas Books quotes by Lynn Coady
I don't own a Kindle, no. I love books, they are beautiful objects. ~ John Banville
Christmas Books quotes by John Banville
I had hundreds of books under my skin already. Not selected reading, all of it. Some of it could be called trashy. I had been through Nick Carter, Horatio Alger, Bertha M. Clay and the whole slew of dime novelists in addition to some really constructive reading. I do not regret the trash. It has harmed me in no way. It was a help, because acquiring the reading habit early is the important thing. Taste and natural development will take care of the rest later on. ~ Zora Neale Hurston
Christmas Books quotes by Zora Neale Hurston
[My mum] was always like that: grateful for life itself. Her glass was not only half full, it was gold plated with a permanent refill. ~ Sarah Winman
Christmas Books quotes by Sarah Winman
I've raised three kids. I'm a lawyer. I've written books on the Constitution. ~ Caroline Kennedy
Christmas Books quotes by Caroline Kennedy
Love, for me, is something I find in books. You're never alone if you are surrounded by books ~ Sophie Divry
Christmas Books quotes by Sophie Divry
Now it's my turn to be offended. "You said it was a study group."

"And you believed me?"

"Why wouldn't I?" Hell, maybe I shouldn't venture outside the Gas Station. It's too complex out here. "This is college, and study groups do exist. A lot. College is to study groups as libraries are to books. They go together. ~ Jen Frederick
Christmas Books quotes by Jen Frederick
In adventure books there weren't awkward pauses or embarrassing social scenes. In morality plays and farces there were rarely serious discussions of racial tension, mob mentality, pogroms, or plague. In scientific books there were no dinnertime revelations of a terrible matter. Life is a strange mix of all these genres... and it doesn't have nearly as neat and happy ending as you often get in books. ~ Liz Braswell
Christmas Books quotes by Liz Braswell
It is a hunger with me, books. I had rather read than eat, I do think. ~ Mercedes Lackey
Christmas Books quotes by Mercedes Lackey
She nods, turning the silver bangle around on her wrist.
"She came from some village north of here, a few hours away. She traveled all the way to the city just to…"
She trails off, feeling a lump grow in her throat.
"…to take you to that orphanage?" Sanjay finishes for her.
Asha nods.
"And she gave me this."
She slides the bangle back on her wrist.
"They gave you everything they had to give," Sanjay says. He reaches across the table for her hand. "So how do you feel, now that you know?"
Asha gazes out the window.
"I used to write these letters, when I was a little girl," she says. "Letters to my mother, telling her what I was learning in school, who my friends were, the books I liked. I must have been about seven when I wrote the first one. I asked my dad to mail it, and I remember he got a really sad look in his eyes and he said,
'I'm sorry, Asha, I don't know where she is.'"
She turns back to face Sanjay.
"Then, as I got older, the letters changed. Instead of telling her about my life, I started asking all these questions. Was her hair curly? Did she like crossword puzzles? Why didn't she keep me?"
Asha shakes her head.
"So many questions."
"And now, I know," she continues. "I know where I came from, and I know I was loved. I know I'm a hell of a lot better off now than I would have been otherwise."
She shrugs.
"And that's enough for me. Some answers, I'll just have to figure ou ~ Shilpi Somaya Gowda

Vanity's contribution to Fiction in general was an abundance of cheap labour and the occasional blockbuster, which was accepted into Fiction with an apologetic 'gosh, don't know how that happened'. ~ Jasper Fforde
Christmas Books quotes by Jasper Fforde
The only books that influence us are those for which we are ready, and which have gone a little farther down our particular path than we have yet got ourselves. ~ E. M. Forster
Christmas Books quotes by E. M. Forster
The shelves are filled with books about improving the process of leadership; discussions of how to hone its art are few. Checklists and processes do not challenge our ability to think, they do not force us to defend our ideas or look new ones in the face. They demand no depth. Defining leadership as an art rather than as a process does not mean that leadership cannot be taught. It merely means that gaining a greater understanding of leadership requires intellectual courage. Just as we develop physical courage by experiencing and functioning under physical fear and moral courage by making the choice of right amidst the pressure to do otherwise, so we develop intellectual courage through the discomfort and ambiguity of experiencing ideas that challenge our depth and perspective. Leaders develop intellectual courage by continuously sharpening the saber through education, and in doing so they
hone within themselves the art of leadership. ~ Christopher D. Kolenda
Christmas Books quotes by Christopher D. Kolenda
Here was intellectual life, he thought, and here was beauty, warm and wonderful as he had never dreamed it could be. He forgot himself and stared at her with hungry eyes. Here was something to live for, to win to, to fight for - ay, and die for. The books were true. There were such women in the world. She was one of them. She lent wings to his imagination, and great, luminous canvases spread themselves before him whereon loomed vague, gigantic figures of love and romance, and of heroic deeds for woman's sake - for a pale woman, a flower of gold. And through the swaying, palpitant vision, as through a fairy mirage, he stared at the real woman, sitting there and talking of literature and art. He listened as well, but he stared, unconscious of the fixity of his gaze or of the fact that all that was essentially masculine in his nature was shining in his eyes. But she, who knew little of the world of men, being a woman, was keenly aware of his burning eyes. She had never had men look at her in such fashion, and it embarrassed her. She stumbled and halted in her utterance. The thread of argument slipped from her. He frightened her, and at the same time it was strangely pleasant to be so looked upon. Her training warned her of peril and of wrong, subtle, mysterious, luring; while her instincts rang clarion-voiced through her being, impelling her to hurdle caste and place and gain to this traveller from another world, to this uncouth young fellow with lacerated hands and a line of ra ~ Jack London
Christmas Books quotes by Jack London
Century also had shelves of obsolete printed books. ~ Alfred Bester
Christmas Books quotes by Alfred Bester
Books became my life, or maybe I should say books became the way I escaped from my life. ~ Beth Hoffman
Christmas Books quotes by Beth Hoffman
Why don't you write books people can read?(to her husband James) ~ Nora Barnacle
Christmas Books quotes by Nora Barnacle
Amy might not have had the most exciting life over the past few years, up here in her room, but she must have been fighting death to the very end. Sara could understand why she had been in denial or so long. It must have been a frightening realization: so many books she would never get to pick up, so many stories that would happen without her, so many authors she would never get to discover.

That night, Sara sat in Amy's library for hours, thinking about how tragic it was that the written word was immortal while people were not, and grieving for her, the woman she had never met. ~ Katarina Bivald
Christmas Books quotes by Katarina Bivald
They know the outward shows of this life present but of the next life are they careless. Have they not consider the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a serious end, and for a fixed term? But truly most men believe not that they shall meet their Lord. ~ Elijah Muhammad
Christmas Books quotes by Elijah Muhammad
In the shop we buy and sell them, but in truth books have no owner. Every book you see here has been somebody's best friend. ~ Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Christmas Books quotes by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Harry ran upstairs to their dark dormitory. He pulled out the cloak and then his eyes fell on the flute Hagrid had given him for Christmas. He pocketed it to use on Fluffy - he didn't feel much like singing. ~ J.K. Rowling
Christmas Books quotes by J.K. Rowling

Christmas Books quotes by Christopher McQuarrie
I haven't got time to read books.'
'What do you mean you haven't got time? What are yo
u doing?'
'Lots of things: studying French, writing a diary,
and ...'
'And what?'
She was about to say 'waiting for the phone to ring

'My dear, you're still very young, you've got your
whole life ahead of you. Read. Forget
everything you've been told about books and just re

'I've read loads of books. ~ Paulo Coelho
Christmas Books quotes by Paulo Coelho
Now, as I look around at a room filled not only with boxes but plenty of its own marks, I want to know the stories behind them. Or rather, a part of me wants to know those stories. The other part of me thinks that's the worst idea in the world, but I don't listen to that part. Ignorance may be bliss, but only if it outweighs curiosity. Curiosity is a gateway drug to sympathy, Da's warning echoes in my head, and I know; but there are no Histories here to feel sympathy for. Which is exactly why the Archive wouldn't approve. They don't approve of any form of recreational reading. ~ Victoria Schwab
Christmas Books quotes by Victoria Schwab
I call Algonquin Books 'the gods and goddesses of publishing.' Not only did they give me a career, they care deeply about every writer in their flock. ~ Caroline Leavitt
Christmas Books quotes by Caroline Leavitt
I love story songs because I've always loved books. ~ Dolly Parton
Christmas Books quotes by Dolly Parton
She [Mary Maclane] is almost always referred to as "confessional." She has been referred to, several times, as the first blogger. Whereas her writing does not confess much - it is much more spiritual memoir than anything, or perhaps something akin to a mystic's courtly love, directed at the self. I am wondering what distinguishes writing as confessional…

I keep on feeling I prefer the latter-day MacLane, the diary she wrote while convalescing from scarlet fever back home in Butte, Montana, I, Mary MacLane, that Melville House is only publishing as an ebook. Mary MacLane melancholy, totally isolated. Feeling intense disquiet. Now in her early thirties, meditating on her whirlwind celebrity, in cities, feeling distanced from all that, but longing for it too. Obsessed with the Mary MacLane who stopped writing, or stopped publishing books, who was involved with the anarchist/bohemian crowd in Chicago, with the Dill Pickle, who died in poverty and obscurity on the South Side at the age of 48. I want to write about her, but I don't know how or why yet. ~ Kate Zambreno
Christmas Books quotes by Kate Zambreno
Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils ... - Louis Hector Berlioz ~ William L.K.
Christmas Books quotes by William L.K.
He grinned, "Honey, the only fire you're going to need is the one I light in you."
He was right. ~ Debbie Mason
Christmas Books quotes by Debbie Mason
…found the use of actual old-school books off putting, but over time, he'd learned there was something very satisfying to the turning of pages, and the emotional catharsis of slamming a book shut ~ Neal Shusterman
Christmas Books quotes by Neal Shusterman
Unto my Books-so good to turn-
Far ends of tired Days-
It half endears the Abstinence-
And Pain-is missed-in Praise-
As Flavors-cheer Retarded Guests
With Banquettings to be-
So Spices-stimulate the time
Till my small Library-
It may be Wilderness-without-
Far feet of failing Men-
But Holiday-excludes the night-
And it is Bells-within-
I thank these Kinsmen of the Shelf-
Their Countenances Kid
Enamor-in Prospective-
And satisfy-obtained- ~ Emily Dickinson
Christmas Books quotes by Emily Dickinson

Don't you miss it, any of it?'
...

No, no. It's not your fault. Books, books, I need my books. Have you re-read those books yet, by the way? - Jerry ~ Seinfeld
Christmas Books quotes by Seinfeld
They'd crossed over to that continent where grieving parents lived. It looked the same as the rest of the world, but wasn't. Colors bled pale. Music was just notes. Books no longer transported or comforted, not fully. Never again. Food was nutrition, little more. Breaths were sighs. And they knew something the rest didn't. They knew how lucky the rest of the world was. ~ Louise Penny
Christmas Books quotes by Louise Penny
My books don't seem to belong to me after I have once written them; and I find myself delivering opinions about them as if I had nothing to do with them. ~ George Eliot
