Tattoos ... are the stories in your heart, written on your skin. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
What if time's not linear, the way people think it is? What if the past, present and future are all going on at the same time, only they're separated by- oh, I don't know- a kind of gauze or something. And maybe there are people that can see through that gauze. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
We're all made of stories. When they finally put us underground, the stories are what will go on. Not forever, perhaps, but for a time. It's a kind of immortality, I suppose, bounded by limits, it's true, but then so's everything. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Yes, no. I don't know. It's all so confusing. I'm just a kid."
Abuelo smiled. "You kept saying that while you told me your story, but what does it mean?"
"That I'm too young to have to be making decisions like this."
"You're never too young to do the right thing," Abuelo said. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There are people who take the heart out of you, and there are people who put it back. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There was dusting and sweeping to do, books to be put away. Lovely books. It didn't matter to Dick if they were serious leather-bound tomes or paperbacks with garish covers. He loved them all, for they were filled with words, and words were magic to this hob. Wise and clever humans had used some marvelous spell to imbue each book with every kind of story and character you could imagine, and many you couldn't. If you knew the key to unlock the words, you could experience them all - Pixel Pixies ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I don't think the world is the way we like to think it is. I don't think it's one solid world, but many, thousands upon thousands of them
as many as there are people
because each person perceives the world in his or her own way; each lives in his or her own world. Sometimes they connect, for a moment, or more rarely, for a lifetime, but mostly we are alone, each living in our own world, suffering our small deaths. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The only real reason for self-referencing is the fun factor. It's fun for the writer, getting little peeks at what old characters might be up to. And it's fun for readers to spot a familiar face, or pick up on a made-up book title or something from an earlier story. I don't know that it does
or even should
contribute to the story in hand being any better than it would have been without it. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
You must always confront your fears," Goon said as though she hadn't spoken. "Then skulking monsters become merely unfamiliar shadows, thrown by a tree bough. Whispering voices are just the wind. The wild flare of panic is merely a burst of emotion, not a terror spell cast by some evil witch. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There was too much going on here
too much that strayed from odd all the way over into seriously weird. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
It is so easy for your people to forget that everything has a spirit, that all are equal. That magic and mystery are a part of your lives, not something to store away in a child's bedroom, or to use as an escape from your lives. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
All my life I've wanted to be the kid who gets to cross over into the magical kingdom. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The lonesome dark.
That's what Jack called a night like this. When you were distanced from everything and everybody. Out on your own and there was nobody to care if you were happy or sad. If you lived or died.
The lonesome dark hadn't existed in the old days. That was something people invented. Like time. Parcel up the days, parcel up the seasons. Add a minute here, a day there when it doesn't quite fit. Trim the square peg so that you could slide it into the round hole. In the old days the night was as open as the day. It wasn't a better place to hide because there was nothing to hide from. You weren't outside because there was no in. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
It's not all about getting your own way. Sometimes there's a bigger picture. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The old gods and their magics did not dwindle away into murky memories of brownies and little fairies more at home in a Disney cartoon; rather, they changed. The coming of Christ and Christians actually freed them. They were no longer bound to people's expectations but could now become anything that they could imagine themselves to be. They are still here, walking among us. We just don't recognize them anymore. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Years ago, when I was about to go on a book tour for Someplace to Be Flying, my editor at the time Terri Windling and I sat down to figure out what to call what I was writing for the interviews that were to come. Terri came up with the term mythic fiction and I think that sums it up perfectly. There are almost invariably mythic elements in my fiction (as well as bits of folk and faerie lore) and the term doesn't lock me into writing only in an urban setting since many of my stories take place in rural areas. It never caught on, but when I don't describe what I do as simply fiction, I'll go with mythic fiction. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Labels don't mean much to me one way or another
except when they close the minds of potential readers. I'd much rather we do away with genres and simply file everything under fiction. I know it can work
one of my favourite record stores (Waterloo Music in Austin) simply files everything alphabetically and no one seems to have much problem finding what they're looking for. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Dying doesn't end anything - it just changes where you are ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The family we choose for ourselves is more important than the one we were born into; that people have to earn our respect and trust, not have it handed to them simply because of genetics. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I lived in New York City back in the 1980s, which is when the Bordertown series was created. New York was a different place then -- dirtier, edgier, more dangerous, but also in some ways more exciting. The downtown music scene was exploding -- punk and folk music were everywhere -- and it wasn't as expensive to live there then, so a lot of young artists, musicians, writers, etc. etc. were all living and doing crazy things in scruffy neighborhoods like the East Village.

I was a Fantasy Editor for a publishing company back then -- but in those days, "fantasy" to most people meant "imaginary world" books, like Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. A number of the younger writers in the field, however, wanted to create a branch of fantasy that was rooted in contemporary, urban North America, rather than medieval or pastoral Europe. I'd already been working with some of these folks (Charles de Lint, Emma Bull, etc.), who were writing novels that would become the foundations for the current Urban Fantasy field. At the time, these kinds of stories were considered so strange and different, it was actually hard to get them into print.

When I was asked by a publishing company to create a shared-world anthology for Young Adult readers, I wanted to create an Urban Fantasy setting that was something like a magical version of New York...but I didn't want it to actually be New York. I want it to be any city and every city -- a place that anyone from anywhere could go to or rela ~ Terri Windling
Charles De Lint quotes by Terri Windling
Children are the brightest treasures we bring forth into this world, but too large a percentage of the population continues to treat them as inconveniences and nuisances, when they're not treating them as possessions or toys. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The minutes dragged by as they only did when you had no choice but to wait for something. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I've always been aware of the otherworld, of spirits that exist in that twilight place that lies in the corner of our eyes, of fairie and stranger things still that we spy only when we're not really paying attention to them, whispers and flickering shadows, here one moment, gone the instant we turn our heads for a closer look. But I couldn't always find them. And when I did, for a long time I thought they were only this excess of imagination that I carry around inside me, that somehow it was leaking out of me into the world. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Let me give you some advice: Try to approach things without preconceived ideas, without supposing you already know everything there is to know about them. Get that trick down and you'll be surprised at what's really all around you. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Lies were like having a pregnant rabbit. One day you had one, but before you knew it, there were rabbits all over the place. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Music's always part of my writing. I think all art is interconnected. You can't create or experience one without its influences bleeding into another. In my writing, music's mostly something that feeds my inspiration and mood while I'm writing, but it's also taught me how to score scenes and even novels. The rise and fall of the storyline echoes the flow of a good piece of music. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Fairy tales and mythology have always been an exaggerated distillation of the real world. Think of them as blueprints for how to deal with a multitude of situations that can arise in a person's life. The beauty of them is that their analogies resonate so deeply and they also entertain while they teach. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
It's easy to believe in magic when you're young. Anything you couldn't explain was magic then. It didn't matter if it was science or a fairy tale. Electricity and elves were both infinitely mysterious and equally possible - elves probably more so. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There's nothing wrong with a youthful prospective. Don't forget- no one else sees the world the way you do, so no one else can tell the stories you have to tell. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Don't forget - no one else sees the world the way you do, so no one else can tell the stories that you have to tell. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
It's my diary", she'd explained. "Every mark I've had drawn on my skin connects me to where and who I've been- so I never forget who I am and how I got here."There was humour in the smile she offered him. "And you know what the real beauty of it is?"
Hank had shaken his head.
"Nobody can take it away. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The problem with children is that you have to put up with their parents. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
When all's said and done, all roads lead to the same end. So it's not so much which road you take, as how you take it. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I want to be magic. I want to touch the heart of the world and make it smile. I want to be a friend of elves and live in a tree. Or under a hill. I want to marry a moonbeam and hear the stars sing. I don't want to pretend at magic anymore. I want to be magic. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I can't imagine it now, but I must've been innocent at some time in my life. A baby don't just get itself born bad, do it? ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
That's the thing about magic; you've got to know it's still here, all around us, or it just stays invisible for you. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
How hard would it be to ask children what they see in their heads? How big should the house be in comparison to the family standing in front of it? What is it about the anatomy of the people that doesn't look right? Then let them try it again. Teach them to learn how to see and ask questions. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
[She] had felt straight away that she wasn't meeting a new friend, but recognizing an old one. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
You can't stand up to the night until you understand what's hiding in its shadows. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There's more to life than just surviving ... but ... sometimes just surviving is all you get ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
A long time ago a bunch of people reached a general consensus as to what's real and what's not and most of us have been going along with it ever since. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
He's this Goth dude, can control people." "Goth, like a Visigoth German Viking of the middle ages, or a Neil Gaiman-looking, Robert Smith, make-up-and-moonbeams Cure fan?" "What's a Neil Gaiman?" "You're an idiot. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Come visit me in my dreams sometime. Look a little older and I'll look a little younger -- who knows what could happen. - Old Man Crow ~ De Lint Charles Vess Charles
Charles De Lint quotes by De Lint Charles Vess Charles
When you're invisible, no one can see that you're different. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There's bad apples in whatever way you want to group people - doesn't matter if it's religious, political or social. The big mistake is generalizing. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
People who've never read fairy tales, the professor said, have a harder time coping in life than the people who have. They don't have access to all the lessons that can be learned from the journeys through the dark woods and the kindness of strangers treated decently, the knowledge that can be gained from the company and example of Donkeyskins and cats wearing boots and steadfast tin soldiers. I'm not talking about in-your-face lessons, but more subtle ones. The kind that seep up from your sub¬conscious and give you moral and humane structures for your life. That teach you how to prevail, and trust. And maybe even love. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
When one of my characters becomes aware of a magical element, it might be because the world is wider than we assume it to be, but it might also be a reminder to pay attention to what is here already, hidden only because it's been forgotten. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Why did men worship in churches, locking themselves away in the dark, when the world lay beyond its doors in all its real glory? ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
We're so quick to cut away pieces of ourselves to suit a particular relationship, a job, a circle of friends, incessantly editing who we are until we fit in. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Don't start brooding about that, too," she says. "Everybody's got a piece of stranger inside them. It's what lets us surprise ourselves and keeps things interesting." -Lupita ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
It's not the work or the personality of the founder of a religion that's important, but what its followers do with what they learn. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Most times we only see things for the way we are. But we're good at lying to ourselves. Sometimes we need somebody who's not living in our skin to point out how things really are. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The trouble with magic is that there's too much it just can't fix. When things go wrong, glimpsing junkyard faerie and crows that can turn into girls and back again doesn't help much. The useful magic's never at hand. The three wishes and the genies in bottles, seven-league boots, invisible cloaks and all. They stay in the stories, while out here in the wide world we have to muddle through as best we can on our own. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
A body of work may be reviled
mostly by those who have no knowledge of its workings
and yet still carry elements of what can only be considered eternal truths. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Even, she thought, even without the gift of witchsight, there was more beauty to be found in the world than could ever be snared in language or music. And with the sight ... ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Every book tells a different story to the person who reads it. How they perceive that book will depend on who they are. A good book reflects the reader, as much as it illuminates the author's text. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Ghosts were just a way that some stupid people dealt with their dull lives. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Some years ago I had a conversation with a man who thought that writing and editing fantasy books was a rather frivolous job for a grown woman like me. He wasn't trying to be contentious, but he himself was a probation officer, working with troubled kids from the Indian reservation where he'd been raised. Day in, day out, he dealt in a concrete way with very concrete problems, well aware that his words and deeds could change young lives for good or ill.
I argued that certain stories are also capable of changing lives, addressing some of the same problems and issues he confronted in his daily work: problems of poverty, violence, and alienation, issues of culture, race, gender, and class...
"Stories aren't real," he told me shortly. "They don't feed a kid left home in an empty house. Or keep an abusive relative at bay. Or prevent an unloved child from finding 'family' in the nearest gang."
Sometimes they do, I tried to argue. The right stories, read at the right time, can be as important as shelter or food. They can help us to escape calamity, and heal us in its aftermath. He frowned, dismissing this foolishness, but his wife was more conciliatory. "Write down the names of some books," she said. "Maybe we'll read them."
I wrote some titles on a scrap of paper, and the top three were by Charles de lint – for these are precisely the kind of tales that Charles tells better than anyone. The vital, necessary stories. The ones that can change and heal young live ~ Terri Windling
Charles De Lint quotes by Terri Windling
Not everything has to mean something. Some things just are. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The trouble with magic is that it never really lets go. If you work one magic to undo another, you might end up with a bigger problem than you had in the first place. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I'm really bad at describing my books. Journalists like to have things like "It's The Terminator Meets the Seven Dwarfs." And I can't do that with my books. If I could, I probably wouldn't write them. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
All forests are one... They are all echoes of the first forest that gave birth to Mystery when the world began. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I read and write for character. If I like and can relate to the characters in a story I can enjoy any kind of story. I also want something with a definitive plot - you know, beginning, middle and end--that has forward motion. I don't like series books that leave you hanging after you've finished a book and in my own fiction I try to make sure that there's always an entry point for those who are new to the book as well as long-time readers. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I write on a computer, but I've run the complete gambit. When I was very young, I wrote with a ballpoint pen in school notebooks. Then I got pretentious and started writing with a dip pen on parchment (I wrote at least a novel-length poem that way). Moved on to a fountain pen. Then a typewriter, then an electric self-correct. Then someone gave me a word processor and I was amazed at being able to fit ten pages on one of those floppy discs. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I think a good writer is a mix of confidence (sure that what they're writing is going to appeal to their readers) and uncertainty (what if all these words are crap?). If you're too confident, you get an attitude that seeps through into your writing, affecting the characters and the story. If you're too uncertain, you'll never finish anything. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
My theory about writing is that one should write books you'd like to read, but no one else has written yet. So, as long as I stick with that, I'm entertaining myself, and then hopefully my readers as well. I hope to god I realize that I'm repeating myself, if I ever do. But if I don't, I'm sure my readers will let me know. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Wondering's healthy. Broadens the mind. Opens you up to all sorts of stray thoughts and possibilities. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There is no plan, no future laid out for any of us beyond what we make for ourselves. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
There was nothing wrong with being a homebody. There was nothing wrong with not wanting - not needing - the constant jostle and noise of a party or bar or... whatever. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
We chase after ghosts and spirits and are left holding only memories and dreams. It's not that we want what we can't have; it's that we've held all we could want and then had to watch it slip away. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
You can take the woman outta the trash, but you can't take the trash out a the woman. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
If you don't believe that the world has a heart, then you won't hear it beating, you won't think it's alive and you won't consider what you're doing to it. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
You walk around with a negative attitude and you're just naturally going to bring trouble and hard times down on yourself. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
But that's what we all are-just stories. We only exist by how people remember us, by the stories we make of our lives. Without the stories, we'd just fade away. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I can't think of a better rationale to create a work of art. I don't care what form one's art takes, it has to be an attempt to leave the world a better place than it was before we got here or it's not doing its job. And I don't mean just making things that are pretty. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
...What makes it magic is taht we choose to create or help, just as we can choose to harm. But it's so easy to destroy and so much harder to make things better. that's why doing the right thing makes you stronger. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Growing up, I'd already decided I wanted to be a beatnik. A Bohemian poet, I thought. Or a musician. Maybe an artist. I'd dress in black turtlenecks and smoke Gitanes. I'd listen to cool jazz in clubs, getting up to read devastating truths from my notebook, leaning against the microphone, cigarette dangling from my hand. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The fey wonders of the world only exist while there are those with the sight to see them. CHARLES DE LINT ~ Graham Joyce
Charles De Lint quotes by Graham Joyce
The past scampers like an alley cat through the present, leaving the paw prints of memories scattered helter-skelter. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I never even considered writing a career option. I just liked the play of words. I was certainly interested in story, but the stories I was telling then were in narrative verse and prose poems, short and succinct, except for one novel-length poem written in narrative couplets. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Beauty isn't what you see on TV or in magazine ads or even necessarily in art galleries. It's a lot deeper and a lot simpler than that. It's realizing the goodness of things, it's leaving the world a little better than it was before you got here. It's appreciating the inspiration of the world around you and trying to inspire others. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I believe in a different kind of magic. The kind we make between each other. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I'd say that any character or setting can be given a bit of an otherworldly sheen and be the better for it. The one thing I insist on with my own writing is that I won't let magic solve my characters' real world problems. The solutions have to come from the characters themselves. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
You've got to spread out as far as you can, cut down a whole forest, irrigate a whole desert, just to make sure that you won't accidentally stumble upon a place that's still in its natural state. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Though the three of them were unrelated by blood, they were sisters all the same. In the heart, where it mattered. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
You wouldn't want any creative process to lose its sense of fun and adventure, but that doesn't mean you can't take it seriously as well. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
It's all a matter of paying attention, being awake in the present moment, and not expecting a huge payoff. The magic in this world seems to work in whispers and small kindnesses. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I was going through the motions of life, instead of really living, and there's no excuse for that. It's not something I'll let happen to me again. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
You've got to find yourself first. Everything else'll follow. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
One of my favourite things to do when I write is to bring a sense of wonder to a normal everyday setting... Yes, there are magical elements, but there are also very down-to-earth elements and often what shines through isn't the magic, but the lanterns that the characters light against the dark... If you substitute the words "fairy tale" or "myth" for "fantasy," the reason I use these elements in my own work is that they create resonances that illuminate solutions to the real world struggle without the need for an authorial voice to point them out. Magic never solves the problems–we have to do that on our own–but in fiction it allows the dialogue to have a much more organic approach than the talking heads one can encounter in fiction that doesn't utilize the same tools.

[from the interview Year's Best 2012: Charles de Lint on "A Tangle of Green Men"] ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Everything, everybody wanted to lay claim to a piece of your soul. And if they couldn't have it, they made you pay for it in guilt. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
If you're not ready to die, then how can you live? ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Everything has a spirit and it's all connected. If you think about that, if you live your life by it, then you're less likely to cause any hurt. It's like how our bodies go back into the ground when we die, so that connects us to the earth. If you dump trash, you're dumping it on your and my ancestors. Or to bring it down to its simplest level: treat everything and everybody the way you want to be treated, because when you hurt someone, you're only hurting yourself. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Not only do we all have magic, it's all around us as well. We just don't pay attention to it. Every time we make something out of nothing, that's an act of magic. It doesn't matter if it's a painting or a garden, or an abuelo telling his grandchildren some tall tale. Every time we fix something that's broken, whether it's a car engine or a broken heart, that's an act of magic.

And what makes it magic is that we *choose* to create or help, just as we can choose to harm. But it's so easy to destroy and so much harder to make things better. That's why doing the right thing makes you stronger.

If we can only remember what we are and what we can do, nobody can bind us or control us. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I wouldn't like to live in a world where everything's as cut-and-dried as most people think it is ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
I've always believed the lies we use to make our fictions reveal the truth with far more honesty than any history or herstory or life story. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
We end up stumbling our way through the forest, never seeing all the unexpected and wonderful possibilities and potentials because we're looking for the idea of a tree, instead of appreciating the actual trees in front of us. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Sculptors, poets, painters, musicians-they're the traditional purveyors of Beauty. But it can as easily be created by a gardener, a farmer, a plumber, a careworker. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
Compromise is necessary ... so long as you never give up who you are. That isn't compromise; that's spiritual death. You have to remain true to yourself. ~ Charles De Lint
Charles De Lint quotes by Charles De Lint
The thing with pretending you're in a good mood is that sometimes you can. ~ Charles De Lint
