Maybe what makes life so terribly fatiguing is nothing other than the enormous effort we make for twenty years, forty years, and more, to be reasonable, to avoid being simply, profoundly ourselves, that is, vile, ghastly, absurd. It's the nightmare of having to represent the halt subhuman we were fobbed off with as a small-size universal ideal, a superman from morning to night. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Telling it all after the fact ... easier said than done! ... much easier! ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
When you are surrounded by children, the child in you comes back. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
My go-to karaoke? 'Alone' by Celine Dion. ~ Abby Wambach
Celine quotes by Abby Wambach
You don't lose much when the landlord's house burns down. Another landlord will always turn up, unless it's the same one, German or French, English or Chinese, to collect the rent ... In marks or francs? What difference does it make, seeing you've got to pay ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
I hope, what I hope the most is to be more successful as a mother than in show business, because to be a mother is the most difficult I will ever have to do. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
Blessed are those who can content themselves with whorehouses! Parapine, ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
If that's the case, hurrah for the crazy people! Look, Lola, do you remember a single name, for instance, of any of the soldiers killed in the Hundred Years War? Did you ever try to find out who any of them were? No! You see? You never tried. As far as you are concerned, they are as anonymous, as indifferent, as the last atom of that paperweight, as your morning bowel movement. Get into your head, Lola, that they died fot nothing! For absolutely nothing, the idiots! I say it and I'll say it again! I've proved it! The one thing that counts is life! In ten thousand years, I'll bet you, this war, remarkable as it may seem to us at present, will be utterly forgotten... Maybe here and there in the world a handful of scholars will argue about its causes or the dates of the principal hecatombs that made it famous. Up until now those are the only things about men that other men have thought worth remembering after a few centuries, a few years, or even a few hours... I don't believe in future, Lola... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
To travel is very useful, it makes the imagination work, the rest is just delusion and pain. Our journey is entirely imaginary, which is its strength ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Happy, no. I'm unhappy because I feel myself a victim of people's rotten tricks. It's not fair and I'll say it. And I'll die saying I was unfairly treated. I've been stripped, robbed, looted, mucked up, insulted from all directions, by people who don't deserve anything. Here is exactly what I think, and I haven't any inferiority or guilt complexes towards anyone. I feel all others are guilty, not me. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
On her son Rene: Oh my God, when he's 20 years old what's going to happen to me? I'm gonna marry him. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
It seems strange to say this, but it is true: Coming back to Vegas to work is like going on vacation for me. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
I took quite an interest in polar expeditions. And I've been familiar with explorers who were still investigating polar zones, especially Greenland, with dog sleighs. What matters with dog sleighs is the guide. The guide is often a female dog, who is particularly subtle, and knows there's a crevice 25 or 30 meters ahead. Yet we can't see it under the snow. So we shall say she is violent because she warns the dog sleighs they're going to fall into the crevice, a 60 to 70 meter drop into a hole, and that will be it, death. Well, maybe I have the astuteness of a female dog leading dog sleighs, nothing more than that. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
There's something of everything in my bathroom. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
I don't listen to my own music at home. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
Who is the true friend of the people? Fascism is. Who has done the most for the working man? The USSR or Hitler? Hitler has ... Who has done the most for the small businessman? Not Thorez but Hitler! ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
The hardest thing to find in life is balance - especially the more success you have, the more you look to the other side of the gate. What do I need to stay grounded, in touch, in love, connected, emotionally balanced? Look within yourself. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
Write what is important to you, regardless of fashion or marketability or anything like that – all those things are so far out of your control that you may as well not think about them. Of course, this may mean you'll never be published but that's a risk we all take every single time we set hands to keyboard or pen to paper. For me, if I can sit back at the end of a project and say, 'yes, I stayed honest, I said what I wanted to say, and I made it sing to the best of my ability', then I'm happy enough. Of course, if anyone wants to buy the damned thing off me when I'm done, that's jam I won't refuse. ~ Celine Kiernan
Celine quotes by Celine Kiernan
Don't make your career be your life. let it be your passion. Let it bring you pleasure. But don't let it become your identity. You are so much more valuable than that. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
Ananna of Tanarau is a delightfully irascible heroine, inhabiting a fascinating and fresh new world that I would love to spend more time in. Pirate ships? Camels? Shadow dwelling assassins? Yes please! Can I have some more? ~ Celine Kiernan
Celine quotes by Celine Kiernan
You can find something funny in anything! I'm sick as a dog and falling to bits, but I'll give up joking only after I give up the ghost! my last gasp! The proof, here, with only an eighth of a glimmer of light, things oozing out of my asshole, my armpits, and the elbows, too, blood coming out of the eyes, from the soupy mess of my grave, me whistling a tune, that's what you'll hear! A regular blackbird! ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
He's fiddling around in his pocket ... nothing to worry about ... all the young ones fiddle around in their pockets ... a pistol? an erection? ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
It's the last residue of our closeness with God, I reckon, the ability to see the wonder of things. ~ Celine Kiernan
Celine quotes by Celine Kiernan
Since life consists of madness spiked with lies, the farther you are from each other the more lies you can put into it and the happier you'll be. That's only natural and normal. Truth is inedible. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
There's no tyrant like a brain. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
If you follow your dreams, it means you follow your heart. If you do follow your heart, I don't think you can go wrong. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
if my memory serves me right, here is my genealogical line: Boccaccio, Petronius, Rabelais, Whitman, Emerson, Thoreau, Maeterlinck, Romain Rolland, Plotinus, Heraclitus, Nietzsche, Dostoievsky (and other Russian writers of the Nineteenth Century), the ancient Greek dramatists, theElizabethan dramatists (excluding Shakespeare), Theodore Dreiser, Knut Hamsun, D. H. Lawrence, James Joyce, Thomas Mann, Elie Faure, Oswald Spengler, Marcel Proust, Van Gogh, the Dadaists and Surrealists, Balzac, Lewis Carroll, Nijinsky, Rimbaud, Blaise Cendrars, Jean Giono, Celine, everything I read on Zen Buddhism, everything I read about China, India, Tibet, Arabia, Africa, and of course the Bible, the men who wrote it and especially the men who made the King James version, for it was the language of the Bible rather than its "message" which I got first and which I will never shake off. ~ Henry Miller
Celine quotes by Henry Miller
Hjalmar ... is holding him, he'd put the handcuff on him ... one, not two ... he only had one ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
We have never sought power. We have sought to disperse power, to set men and women free. That really means: to help them to discover that they are free. Everybody's free. The slave is free. The ultimate weapon isn't this plague out in Vegas, or any new super H-bomb. The ultimate weapon has always existed. Every man, every woman, and every child owns it. It's the ability to say No and take the consequences. 'Fear is failure.' 'The fear of death is the beginning of slavery.' Thou hast no right but to do thy will.' The goose can break the bottle at any second. Socrates took the hemlock to prove it. Jesus went to the cross to prove it. It's in all history, all myth, all poetry. It's right out in the open all the time. ~ Robert Anton Wilson
Celine quotes by Robert Anton Wilson
Men are the thing to be afraid of, always, men and nothing else. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
To philosophize is only another way of being afraid and leads hardly anywhere but to cowardly make-believe. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
And now sometimes I'm interviewed, they want to hear about
life and literature and I get drunk and hold up my cross-eyed,
shot, runover de-tailed cat and I say,"look, look
at this!"
but they don't understand, they say something like,"you
say you've been influenced by Celine?"
no," I hold the cat up,"by what happens, by
things like this, by this, by this! ~ Charles Bukowski
Celine quotes by Charles Bukowski
I like to feel his eyes on me when I look away . ~ Celine
Celine quotes by Celine
An unfamiliar city is a fine thing. That's the time and place when you can suppose that all the people you meet are nice. It's dream time. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
In this business of getting killed, it's no use being picky and choosy…You've got to act as if life were going on, and that lie is the hardest part of it. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
The mother sensed her daughter's animal superiority and instinctively condemned it out of hand, the unforgettable depth of her fucking, her way of coming like a continent! ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
I always have separated myself from my critiques of collections. My judgment is not about whether I would wear it - but how the collection stands in the lexicon of an established designer. As I am a maximalist, not a minimalist, I don't wear Armani or Celine - but I so appreciate what they have achieved. ~ Suzy Menkes
Celine quotes by Suzy Menkes
So many vaginas, stomachs, cocks, snouts, and flies you don't know what to do with them ... shovelsfull! ... but hearts? ... very rare! in the last five hundred million years too many cocks and gastric tubes to count ... but hearts? ... on your fingers! ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Even though there may be times It seems I'm far away Never wonder where I am 'Cause I am always by your side. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
I'm in shock. Whitney was such an amazing artist. When I started my English career, I wanted to be like her. I loved her so much. My prayers go out to her daughter and to all of her family. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
Ah, the beautiful Celine," Desmund said, earning a smile from her. "Did I ever tell you that you remind me of a courtesan I knew once in King George's court? She was stunning to look upon and much sought after."
Celine toyed with her hair. "You flatter me, Desmund. Was she someone of noble birth?"
"No, but I believe she serviced a duke or two."
I choked on my water. Tristan reached over to pat my back, while smiling graciously at the outraged woman. ~ Karen Lynch
Celine quotes by Karen Lynch
Travel is useful, it exercises the imagination. All the rest is disappointment and fatigue. Our journey is entirely imaginary. That is its strength.
It goes from life to death. People, animals, cities, things, all are imagined. It's a novel, just a fictitious narrative. Littre says so and he's never wrong.
And besides, in the first place, anyone can do as much. You just have to close your eyes.
It's on the other side of life. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Most people don't die until the last moment; others start twenty years in advance, sometimes more. Those are the unfortunates. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
The foreground in a picture is always unattractive ... Art demands that the interest of the canvas should be placed in the far distance, where lies take refuge, those dreams which blossom out of fact and are man's only love. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Reason died in 1914, November 1914 ... after that everybody began to rave ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Here's the truth, simply stated ... bookstores are suffering from a serious crisis of falling sales. Don't believe a single zero of all those editions claimed to be 100,000! 40,000! ... even 400 copies! just for the suckers! Alack! ... Alas! ... only love and romance ... and even then! ... manage to keep selling ... and a few murder mysteries ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
The world leaves us long before we leave it…for good. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
A female character can: Like babies, Be devoted to her lover, Cry, Be gentle, Be scared, Be uncertain, Take advice, and still be a YA heroine ~ Celine Kiernan
Celine quotes by Celine Kiernan
I was rather fond of her, but I was even fonder of my vices, my mania for running away from everywhere in search of God knows what, driven, I suppose, by stupid pride, by a sense of some sort of superiority ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Maybe that's what we look for all our lives, the worst possible grief, to make us truly ourselves before we die. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Women always have some mental reservation. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Before, singing was my life, my vocal chords used to lead the way. Now, I'm in-charge. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
We are comfortable in this environment. Why not make ourselves comfortable over there?. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
She was having an attack of knuckleheaded anxiety. Those attacks last a long time. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
I sing 'I Have Confidence' from 'The Sound of Music' as Judy Garland, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Elaine Stritch and Julie Andrews - each alternating lines. ~ Sara Chase
Celine quotes by Sara Chase
I was in full digression! far from the subject! ... my colonel was losing track ... rapidly, of my story! my story! ... my own story! ... the gifts that I had personally received from Heaven! ... yet I had insisted, every time! truly extraordinary gifts! ... I'd made him repeat them a hundred times! ... enough so he'd remember! that I was the only true genius! the century's only writer! the proof: that no one ever spoke of me! ... everyone was jealous! Nobel! no Nobel! they had all joined forces to have me executed! ... they could just go fuck off! ... drop dead! since it was a question of death between me and them! I'll send their readers packing! all their readers! I'll make the public grow sick of their books! cabal! no cabal! since there was no room for two styles! ... it was mine or theirs! ... crawl or breastroke! ... you understand! ... the only inventor of the century! is me! me! me right here! the only genius, you might say! damned or not! ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Some people can't stand being alone. I love solitude and silence. But when I come out of it, I'm a regular talking machine. It's all or nothing for me. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
To hell with reality! I want to die in music, not in reason or in prose. People don't deserve the restraint we show by not going into delirium in front of them. To hell with them! ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
You've been my inspiration, through the lies you were the truth. My world is a better place because of you. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
Troubles are as endless as pleasures are brief ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Well, when I was a young writer the people we read were Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Sartre, Camus, Celine, Malraux. And to begin with, I was a bit of a copycat writer and very derivative and tried to write a novel using their voices, really ... I keep it out of print. ~ Mordecai Richler
Celine quotes by Mordecai Richler
It is, I believe, one of the few dangerous forms of eccentricity, a highly contagious mania, to be precise, of the rampant social variety! In your friend's case, we may not yet be dealing with out-and-out insanity ... No ... Maybe his trouble is only exaggerated conviction ... But the contagious manias are well known to me! ... I've known a good many sufferers from conviction mania ... Of many different types ... And in the last analysis, those who talk about justice seem to be the maddest of the lot! ... At first, I must confess, I took a certain interest in justice fanatics ... Today those particular maniacs annoy and exasperate me more than I can tell ... Don't you feel the same way? ... Human beings show a strange aptitude for transmitting this mania. It terrifies me, and we find it, mind you, in all human beings! ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
When you talk about me having a favorite singer, it's Celine. She is not only one of the most amazing singers, but she is just an amazing person. ~ Tessanne Chin
Celine quotes by Tessanne Chin
I think I'm always so much more happy with books and movies and stuff. I think I get more excited about well-done representations of life than life itself.
- Celine ~ Richard Linklater
Celine quotes by Richard Linklater
But when you are week the best way to fortify yourself is to strip the people you fear of the last bit of prestige you're still inclined to give them. Learn to consider them they are, worse than they are in fact and from every point of view. That will release you, set you free, protect you more than you can possibly imagine. It will give you another self. There will be two of you.
That will strip their words and deeds of the obscene mystical fascination that weakens you and makes you waste your time. From then on you'll find their act no more amusing, no more relevant to your inner progress than that of the lowliest pig. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Our molecules, the dears, want to get lost in the universe as fast as they can! It makes them miserable to be nothing but "us," the jerks of infinity. We'd burst if we had the courage, day after day we come very close to it. The atomic torture we love so is locked up inside us with our pride. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
YA heroines can have romances that are subplots: can have goals other than getting/keeping a man: can put their lovers second. JUST LIKE YAheroes DO! ~ Celine Kiernan
Celine quotes by Celine Kiernan
I definitely would never go back to my 20s. The best is yet to come. ~ Celine Dion

Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Don't be so familiar and so much into the details. Keep people dreaming. Close the window, and make them wonder. ~ Celine Dion
Celine quotes by Celine Dion
The poetry of heroism appeals irresistibly to those who don't go to a war, and even more to those whom the war is making enormously wealthy. It's always so. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
We've no use for intellectuals in this outfit. What we need is chimpanzees. Let me give you a word of advice: never say a word to us about being intelligent. We will think for you, my friend. Don't forget it. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
There's something very pleasant about a language you don't understand ... It's like a fog swirling around in our thoughts ... It's nice, it's like a dream, there's really nothing better ... It's fine as long as the words stay in the dream ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
This body of ours, this disguise put on by common jumping molecules, is in constant revolt against the abominable farce of having to endure. Our molecules, the dears, want to get lost in the universe as fast as they can! It makes them miserable to be nothing but "us," the jerks of infinity. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
We are so trivial by nature that only amusements can stop us from dying for real. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
When you're dealing with these forces or powers in a philosophic and scientific way, contemplating them from an armchair, that rationalistic approach is useful. It is quite profitable then to regard the gods and goddesses and demons as projections of the human mind or as unconscious aspects of ourselves. But every truth is a truth only for one place and one time, and that's a truth, as I said, for the armchair. When you're actually dealing with these figures, the only safe, pragmatic and operational approach is to treat them as having a being, a will, and a purpose entirely apart from the humans who evoke them. If the Sorcerer's Apprentice had understood that, he wouldn't have gotten into so much trouble. ~ Robert Anton Wilson
Celine quotes by Robert Anton Wilson
On the Hunger Games Fan Race fail and the portrayal of POC in fantasy literature:
It is as if the POC in the text are walking around with a great big red sign over them for some editors and it reads I AM NOT A REAL CHARACTER. I AM A PROBLEM YOU MUST DEAL WITH. The white characters are permitted to saunter about with their physical descriptions hanging out all over the place, but best not make mention of dark skin or woolly/curly hair or dark eyes (Unless, of course, that character is white. None of my white-skinned dark-eyed characters had any problem being described as such. And I'm pretty sure that Sól's curly hair never gave anyone a single pause for thought.) As I said, I understand the desire not to define a POC simply by their physical attributes, and I understand cutting physical descriptions if no other character is described physically – but pussyfooting about in this manner with POC is doing nothing but white wash the characters themselves. It's already much too hard to get readers to latch onto the fact that some characters may not be caucasian, why must we dance about their physical description as if it were some kind of shameful dirty little secret. You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the way homosexuality used to only ever be hinted at in texts. It was up to the reader to 'read between the lines' or 'its there if you look for it' and all that total bullshit which used to be the norm. ~ Celine Kiernan
Celine quotes by Celine Kiernan
There is no rest for the humble except in despising the great, whose only thought of the people is inspired by self-interest or sadism. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
With Celine Dion, we were selling 25 million records a pop. 'Pop' stands for 'popular.' It means we're plugging into the masses. ~ David Foster

Celine quotes by Celine Buckens
Then you're not coming? You'd rather go to the pen? Okay! . . . You don't care if I turn you in? ... You don't
care if I love you or not? . . . You don't care about my future? You don't care about anything, do you? . . ."
"No," he says. "In a way you're right . . . But it's not just you ... I don't care about anyone else either . . . Christ, don't take it as an insult! ... I know you're a sweet kid . . . But I don't want to be loved anymore ... It disgusts me! . . . ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
But however fast the world was spinning, time was standing still for Celine and Oliver, held in a magic moment they would never forget. ~ Betty Neels
Celine quotes by Betty Neels
You know about innards? The trick they play on tramps in the country? They stuff an old wallet with putrid chicken innards. Well, take it from me, a man is just like that, except that he's fatter and hungrier and can move around, and inside there's a dream. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
I love pop music, but I don't want to be Celine Dion. ~ Vonda Shepard
Celine quotes by Vonda Shepard
Take Marcus Aurelius! That's right! What did that old bugger do? In very similar situations! Harassed! Maligned! Transduced! On the brink of succumbing under the welter if abject plots ... of murderous perfidies! ... He withdrew, Ferdinand! ... He abandoned the steps of the Forum to the jackals! Yes! In solitude! In exile! That's where he sought his balm! That's where he found new courage! ... That's right! ... He took counsel on himself! And no one else! ... He didn't ask the mad dogs for their opinion! ... No! Faugh! ... Ah, despicable recantation! ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine

I'm telling you! ... ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine

Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Sleep just gets in the way of the writing I want to do. ~ Celine Garcia
Celine quotes by Celine Garcia
All our misery comes from wanting at all costs to go on being Tom, Dick, or Harry, year in, year out. This body of ours, this disguise put on my common jumping molecules, is in constant revolt against the abominable farce of having to endure. Our molecules, the dears, want to get lost in the universe as fast as they can! It makes them miserable to be nothing but "us," the jerks of infinity. We'd burst if we had the courage, day after day we come very close to it. The atomic torture we love so is locked up inside us by our pride. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine

Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
People cling to their rotten memories, to all their misfortunes, and you can't pry them loose. These things keep them busy. They avenge themselves for the injustice of the present by smearing the future inside them with this shit. They're cowards deep down, and just. That's their nature. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Celine quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
I think it bothers people to see people that are happy and successful. So they try to find what's wrong with them. ~ Celine Dion
