Jane circled the mansion, passing door after door, all too la-di-da for comfort. ~ Jeanne Birdsall
Castaing La quotes by Jeanne Birdsall
It is necessary, in order to know things well, to know the particulars of them; and these, being infinite, make our knowledge eversuperficial and imperfect. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Castaing La quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
More men are guilty of treason through weakness than any studied design to betray. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Castaing La quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld

Of course I watch 'Life with La Toya' on OWN. ~ Kym Whitley
Castaing La quotes by Kym Whitley
That's the weirdest thing, by the way. That every person you come across lays down in a bed, under the covers, and closes their eyes at night. Cops, teachers, parents, hot girls, pro ballers, everybody. For some reason it makes people seem so much less real when I look at them. ~ Matt De La Pena
Castaing La quotes by Matt De La Pena
Men frequently do good only to give themselves opportunity of doing ill with impunity. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Castaing La quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
David in this night says of himself, "My heart is inflamed, and my reins are changed, and I am brought to nothing, and knew not."2 That is, "my heart hath been inflamed" in the love of contemplation; ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Castaing La quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
I didn't see it as someone who worked as hard as I did. But now that Saint Laurent is part of history, it makes me a part of history, so, yes, finally it's not such a bad thing to have been a muse. ~ Loulou De La Falaise
Castaing La quotes by Loulou De La Falaise
When I recorded Contra la Puerta, I never really thought out doing the material live. Mostly because I haven't really seen any electronic music performed live in an interesting way. ~ Jim Coleman
Castaing La quotes by Jim Coleman
Anyone who says honesty is the best policy is living in la-la land. Either that or they have never been married or had children. Parents lie to their kids all the time--about sex, drugs, death, and a hundred other things. We lie to those we love to protect their feelings. We lie because that's what love means, whereas unfettered honesty is cruel and the height of self-indulgence. ~ Michael Robotham
Castaing La quotes by Michael Robotham
The careful scholarship of the dedicated amateur mycophile R. Gordon Wasson reads like an exciting scientific detective story. Moreover, his willingness to pursue the quest through the wide range of linguistics, archeology, folklore, philology, ethnobotany, plant ecology, human physiology, and prehistory constitutes an object lesson to all holistic professional students of man. ~ Weston La Barre
Castaing La quotes by Weston La Barre
The paradox of anthropology: to see something, you had to be outside of it, but when you were outside of it, you couldn't see it for what it was. ~ Paul La Farge
Castaing La quotes by Paul La Farge
Teachers who are not actively involved in the learning process themselves, force their students to drink from stagnant water ~ Jean-Baptiste De La Salle
Castaing La quotes by Jean-Baptiste De La Salle
Logic is the art of making truth prevail. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
Castaing La quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
It is through madness that we hate an enemy, and think of revenging ourselves; and it is through indolence that we are appeased, and do not revenge ourselves. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
Castaing La quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
I like to look like a tomboy during the day and then a pin-up girl at night. ~ Josephine De La Baume
Castaing La quotes by Josephine De La Baume
Obama!" the President said, shaking my hand. "Come here and meet Laura. Laura, you remember Obama. We saw him on TV during election night. Beautiful family. And that wife of yours - that's one impressive lady."

"We both got better than we deserve, Mr. President," I said, shaking the First Lady's hand and hoping that I'd wiped any crumbs off my face. The President turned to an aide nearby, who squirted a big dollop of hand sanitizer in the President's hand.

"Want some?" the President asked. "Good stuff. Keeps you from getting colds."
Not wanting to seem unhygienic, I took a squirt.

"Come over here for a second," he said, leading me off to one side of the room. "You know," he said quietly, "I hope you don't mind me giving you a piece of advice."

"Not at all, Mr. President."

"He nodded. "You've got a bright future," he said. "Very bright. But I've been in this town awhile and, let me tell you, it can be tough. When you get a lot of attention like you've been getting, people start gunnin' for ya. And it won't necessarily just be coming from my side, you understand. From yours, too. Everybody'll be waiting for you to slip, know what I mean? So watch yourself."

"Thanks for the advice, Mr. President."

"All right. I gotta get going. You know, me and you got something in common."

"What's that?"

"We both had to debate Alan Keyes. That guy's a piece of work, isn't he?"

I la ~ Barack Obama
Castaing La quotes by Barack Obama
Sometimes, sport is just plain pleasing to the eye, like watching La Belle France flit by on television during the Tour de France. I can do that for hours. ~ George Vecsey
Castaing La quotes by George Vecsey
Criticism is as often a trade as a science, requiring, as it does, more health than wit, more labour than capacity, more practice than genius. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
Castaing La quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
The fool only is troublesome. A plan of sense perceives when he is agreeable or tiresome; he disappears the very minute before he would have been thought to have stayed too long. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
Castaing La quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
Any girl faced with daily attention from a gorgeous boy with a cute accent and perfect hair would be hard-pressed not to develop a big, stinking, painful,all-the-time,all consuming crush.
Not that that's what's happening to me.
Like I said. It's a relief to know it won't happen. It makes things easier. Most girls laugh too hard at his jokes and find excuses to gently press his arm. To touch him.Instead,I argue and roll my eyes and act indifferent. And when I touch his arm,I shove it.Because that's what friends do.
Besides,I have more important things on my mind: movies.
I've been in France for a month, and though I have ridden the elevators to the top of La Tour Eiffel (Mer took me while St. Clair and Rashmi waited below on the lawn-St. Clair because he's afraid of falling and Rashmi because she refuses to do anything touristy), and though I have walked the viewing platform of L'Arc de Triomphe (Mer took me again,of course, while St. Clair stayed below and threatened to push Josh and Rashmi into the insane traffic circle),I still haven't been to the movies.
Actually,I have yet to leave campus alone. Kind of embarrassing.
But I have a plan.First,I'll convince someone to go to a theater with me. Shouldn't be too difficult; everyone likes the movies. And then I'll take notes on everything they say and do, and then I'll be comfortable going back to that theater alone.A ~ Stephanie Perkins
Castaing La quotes by Stephanie Perkins
Politeness does not always inspire goodness, equity, complaisance, and gratitude; it gives at least the appearance of these qualities, and makes man appear outwardly, as he should be within. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
Castaing La quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
Being involved in competition is a privilege and an opportunity. Seek to make the most of that opportunity by pushing yourself to the limit of your abilities. When it is over, you will have earned the respect of your opponents, your coaches, and yourself. ~ Tony La Russa
Castaing La quotes by Tony La Russa
Perfect courage is to do without witnesses what one would be capable of doing with the world looking on. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Castaing La quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
"Plaza de la Soledad" is a documentary about Carmen, Lety, Raquel and Esther, four strong women - middle-aged and older - who want to break a vicious circle that began with abuse and abandonment suffered from an early age. They simply want to have a better life. The film follows their quest to find true love and their capacity to transform themselves. ~ Maya Goded

The word virtue is as useful to self-interest as the vices. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Castaing La quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Whenever you give up an apartment in New York and move to another city, New York turns into the worst version of itself. Someone I know once wisely said that the expression "It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there" is completely wrong where New York is concerned; the opposite is true. New York is a very livable city. But when you move away and become a vistor, the city seems to turn against you. It's much more expensive (because you need to eat all your meals out and pay for a place to sleep) and much more unfriendly. Things change in New York; things change all the time. You don't mind this when you live here; when you live here, it's part of the caffeinated romance to this city that never sleeps. But when you move away, your experience change as a betrayal. You walk up Third Avenue planning to buy a brownie at a bakery you've always been loyal to, and the bakery's gone. Your dry cleaner move to Florida; your dentist retires; the lady who made the pies on West Fourth Street vanishes; the maitre d' at P.J. Clarke's quits, and you realize you're going to have to start from scratch tipping your way into the heart of the cold, chic young woman now at the down. You've turned your back from only a moment, and suddenly everything's different. You were an insider, a native, a subway traveler, a purveyor of inside tips into the good stuff, and now you're just another frequent flyer, stuck in a taxi on Grand Central Parkway as you wing in and out of La Guardia. M ~ Nora Ephron
Castaing La quotes by Nora Ephron
Nothing prevents one from appearing natural as the desire to appear natural. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Castaing La quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
