How far would you run with a piece of lead in your heart? ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Something's died in me," she goes. "It took a long time for it to do it, but it's dead. You've killed something, just like you'd took an axe to it. Everything is dirt now. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
If you have to choose one critical ingredient of success, it's passion. ~ Carver Mead
Carver quotes by Carver Mead
The wood-carver can fashion whatever he will. Yet his products are but toys of the moment, to be glanced at in jest, not fashioned according to any precept or law. When times change, the carver too will change his style and make new trifles to hit the fancy of the passing day. But there is another kind of artist, who sets more soberly about his work, striving to give real beauty to the things which men actually use and to give to them the shape which tradition has ordained. This maker of real things must not for a moment be confused with the maker of idle toys. ~ Murasaki Shikibu
Carver quotes by Murasaki Shikibu
I know of nothing more inspiring than that of making discoveries for ones self. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
It is this unification and simplification of knowledge that gives us hope for the future of our culture. To the extent that we encourage future generations to understand deeply, to see previously unseen connections, and to follow their conviction that such endeavors are noble undertakings of the human spirit, we will have contributed to a brighter future. ~ Carver Mead
Carver quotes by Carver Mead
He seemed full of some goodness she didn't understand ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Evan Connell said once that he knew he was finished with a short story when he found himself going through it and taking out commas and then going through the story again and putting the commas back in the same places. I like that way of working on something. I respect that kind of care for what is being done. That's all we have, finally, the words, and they had better be the right ones, with the punctuation in the right places so that they an best say what they are meant to say. If the words are heavy with the writer's own unbridled emotions, or if they are imprecise and inaccurate for some other reason
if the worlds are in any way blurred
the reader's eyes will slide right over them and nothing will be achieved. Henry James called this sort of hapless writing 'weak specification'. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
When you write, you lay out a line of words. The line of words is a miner's pick, a wood carver's gouge, a surgeon's probe. You wield it, and it digs a path you follow. Soon you find yourself deep in new territory. Is it a dead end, or have you located the real subject? You will know tomorrow, or this time next year. ~ Annie Dillard
Carver quotes by Annie Dillard
Unkindness to anything means an injustice to that thing. If I am unkind to you I do you an injustice, or wrong you in some way. On the other hand, if I try to assist you in every way that I can to make a better citizen and in every way to do my very best for you, I am kind to you. The above principles apply with equal force to the soil. The farmer whose soil produces less every year, is unkind to it in some way; that is, he is not doing by it what he should; he is robbing it of some substance it must have, and he becomes, therefore, a soil robber rather than a progressive farmer. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
We do eventually get dressed and look for food, although we only make it to the dining room in time for lunch. Egeria accepts her ousting as Alpha Sinta without a hint of anger or regret. Clearly, it's what she was expecting all along. Piers is away on a recruitment trip, but the rest of the family is here and overjoyed by our wedding announcement. Jocasta decrees that we have to go shopping, now, and Kaia bounces in her seat, beyond excited about any outing that will actually get her on the other side of the castle gate.

Shopping requires money, so I dig around in Griffin's pocket under the table, letting my fingers wander enough for him to nearly choke on his stew. I find four gold coins and hold on to them. "You never pay me."

He looks aghast. "I can't pay you anymore."

"We're about to get married. No one's going to confuse me with a prostitute."

Kaia spits out a grape. It bounces across the table and then lands in her mother's lap. Kaia slaps her hand over her mouth, her blue-gray eyes huge, and Nerissa gives her a quelling look. The look finishes on me, and I might have felt a little quelled myself if Carver hadn't suddenly made a noise like a donkey, finally belting out the laugh he'd been holding back.

Anatole bangs his hand down on the table and bursts out laughing. He sounds like a donkey, too. It's contagious, and the whole table erupts, snorting and braying until most of us are wiping tears from our eyes. I sha ~ Amanda Bouchet
Carver quotes by Amanda Bouchet
Everyone's here except for St. Clair." Meredith cranes her neck around the cafeteria. "He's usually running late."
"Always," Josh corrects. "Always running late."
I clear my throat. "I think I met him last night. In the hallway."
"Good hair and an English accent?" Meredith asks.
"Um.Yeah.I guess." I try to keep my voice casual.
Josh smirks. "Everyone's in luuurve with St. Clair."
"Oh,shut up," Meredith says.
"I'm not." Rashmi looks at me for the first time, calculating whether or not I might fall in love with her own boyfriend.
He lets go of her hand and gives an exaggerated sigh. "Well,I am. I'm asking him to prom. This is our year, I just know it."
"This school has a prom?" I ask.
"God no," Rashmi says. "Yeah,Josh. You and St. Clair would look really cute in matching tuxes."
"Tails." The English accent makes Meredith and me jump in our seats. Hallway boy. Beautiful boy. His hair is damp from the rain. "I insist the tuxes have tails, or I'm giving your corsage to Steve Carver instead."
"St. Clair!" Josh springs from his seat, and they give each other the classic two-thumps-on-the-back guy hug.
"No kiss? I'm crushed,mate."
"Thought it might miff the ol' ball and chain. She doesn't know about us yet."
"Whatever," Rashi says, but she's smiling now. It's a good look for her. She should utilize the corners of her mouth more often.
Beautiful Hallway Boy (Am I supposed to call him Etienne or St. Clair?) ~ Stephanie Perkins
Carver quotes by Stephanie Perkins
What's true is not always what is real . . . ~ Will Carver
Carver quotes by Will Carver
There is in the soul a desire for not thinking.
For being still. Coupled with this
a desire to be strict, yes, and rigorous.
But the soul is also a smooth son of a bitch,
not always trustworthy. And I forgot that. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
It's something that I feel I know about, relationships between men and women. I like to write from the woman's point of view now and again, to get inside her head, to feel what she's feeling. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
When I'm fishing, I feel guilty that I'm not writing, and when I'm writing, I feel guilty that I'm not fishing. But when push comes to shove, I'll always take the writing. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
There was this funny thing of anything could happen now that we realized everything had. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
George Washington Carver explained, "Anything will give up its secrets if you love it enough." Mindfulness is this kind ~ Jack Kornfield
Carver quotes by Jack Kornfield
We're both going," Lucas said. "We don't need to track Green. But if Dannon killed Carver, he's going to dump him. We need to be there - we need everybody to be there." "I could drive," Del said. "They're too far ahead of us," Lucas said. "I need to drive." "Goddamnit. I hate it when you drive," Del said. "I get so puckered up that I've got to pull my asshole back out with a nut pick." "Thanks for the image," Lucas said. "Let's go. ~ John Sandford
Carver quotes by John Sandford
I am a cutter, you see. Also a snipper, a slicer, a carver, a jabber. I am a very special case. I have a purpose. My skin, you see, screams. It's covered with words - cook, cupcake, kitty, curls - as if a knife-wielding first-grader learned to write on my flesh. I sometimes, but only sometimes, laugh. Getting out of the bath and seeing, out of the corner of my eye, down the side of a leg: babydoll. Pull on a sweater and, in a flash of my wrist: harmful. Why these words? Thousands of hours of therapy have yielded a few ideas from the good doctors. They are often feminine, in a Dick and Jane, pink vs. puppy dog tails sort of way. Or they're flat-out negative. Number of synonyms for anxious carved in my skin: eleven. The one thing I know for sure is that at the time, it was crucial to see these letters on me, and not just see them, but feel them. Burning on my left hip: petticoat.

And near it, my first word, slashed on an anxious summer day at age thirteen: wicked. I woke up that morning, hot and bored, worried about the hours ahead. How do you keep safe when your whole day is as wide and empty as the sky? Anything could happen. I remember feeling that word, heavy and slightly sticky across my pubic bone. My mother's steak knife. Cutting like a child along red imaginary lines. Cleaning myself. Digging in deeper. Cleaning myself. Pouring bleach over the knife and sneaking through the kitchen to return it. Wicked. Relief. The rest of the day, I spent ministering to my ~ Gillian Flynn
Carver quotes by Gillian Flynn
There is a use for almost everything. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
He did not know what to do. Not just now, he thought, not just in this, not just about this, today and tomorrow, but every day on the earth. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
It had me," he said. "The shark had me. I was, literally, about to be torn in two. You saved me. In the nick of time, you saved me."
"You're welcome," Skulduggery said.
"I was talking to Valkyrie."
Skulduggery's head tilted. "But I'm the one who figured it all out."
Valkyrie grinned. "You're very welcome, Geoffrey, although I can't take all the credit. China helped, you know."
"But I carver the right symbol," Skulduggery said.
Scrutinous clasped Valkyrie hand in his. "If there is anything I can do for you in the future, anything at all, do not hesitate to ask."
Skulduggery looked at him. "Can I ask, too?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Valkyrie cared that I was being attacked. You told me to shut up."
"That's because your screaming was very annoying. How is that my fault? ~ Derek Landy
Carver quotes by Derek Landy
Don't complain, don't explain. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Megan had accustomed herself to receiving the third degree about her dates.
His name is Dillon Carver. He's the same age as me, and also a senior. He has no family history of insanity or premature baldness. He doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs, but he does have a vicious Dr Pepper habit. I'll let you know how big his penis is after the dance. ~ Sara Bell
Carver quotes by Sara Bell
The carver had clearly heard of the golden ratio and wanted no truck with it. ~ T. Kingfisher
Carver quotes by T. Kingfisher
true courage is what it takes to make yourself do something you're afraid to do. ~ Sonora Carver
Carver quotes by Sonora Carver
Much can they praise the trees so straight and high, The sailing pine, the cedar proud and tall, The vine-prop elm, the poplar never dry, The builder oak, sole king of forests all, The aspin good for staves, the cypress funeral, The laurel, meed of mighty conquerors And poets sage, the fir that weepest still, The yew obedient to the bender's will, The birch for shafts, the sallow for the mill, The myrrh sweet-bleeding in the bitter wound, The warlike beech, the ash for nothing ill, The fruitful olive, and the platane round, The carver holm, the maple seldom inward sound. ~ Edmund Spenser
Carver quotes by Edmund Spenser
He did not mention that his skill was as a carver. He had never sold pounamu. He would not sell pounamu. For one could not put a price upon a treasure, just as one could not purchase mana, and one could not make a bargain with a god. Gold was not a treasure - this Tauwhare knew. Gold was like all capital in that it had no memory: its drift was always onward, away from the past. ~ Eleanor Catton
Carver quotes by Eleanor Catton
It ought to make us feel ashamed when we talk like we know what we're talking about when we talk about love. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
People think that in this business you don't have to have any brains. They're wrong. The first time you stop thinking, you're dead. ~ Sonora Carver
Carver quotes by Sonora Carver
Ninety-nine percent of all failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
When I was young, I said to God, 'God, tell me the mystery of the universe.' But God answered, 'That knowledge is for me alone.' So I said, 'God, tell me the mystery of the peanut.' Then God said, 'Well George, that's more nearly your size.' And he told me. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
I have a treasured set of matched grain crosscut horns made for me by master American carver Jim Cooke, cut yin-yang from the same block of briar he waited five years to find. ~ Rick Newcombe
Carver quotes by Rick Newcombe
I know you, Ruth Ann Carver. I know you better than you know yourself. You think you do things right. You think you're a paragon of right living. This is a self-told lie, one bolstered by your coddling parents and grandparents. ~ Carolyn Lee Adams
Carver quotes by Carolyn Lee Adams
No individual has any right to come into the world and go out of it without leaving behind him distinct and legitimate reasons for having passed through it. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
This is awful. I don't know what's going to happen to me or to anyone else in the world. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
The problem with relegating black history to one really short month, the shortest month, is not only are we telling the same stories over and over again - which are amazing, George Washington Carver is incredible, there's nobody like Frederick Douglass - but there are so many. ~ Karyn Parsons
Carver quotes by Karyn Parsons
Getting anything off the ground is going to require a little bit of risk. That risk starts with sharing the idea. ~ Max Carver
Carver quotes by Max Carver
*Always schedule enough time between connections. I always like to give myself at least two hours between flights. It's much easier to sit in the terminal for three hours than it is to sit on standby for two days because you missed your connection. ~ Morgan Carver Richards
Carver quotes by Morgan Carver Richards
When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
You can't tear up everything just to get the dollar out of it without suffering as result. It is a travesty to burn our woods and thereby burn up the fertilizer nature has provided for us. We must enrich our soil every year instead of merely depleting it. It is fundamental that nature will drive away those who commit sin against it. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
My latter schooldays and my university days were during the war, when science - physics, in particular - was a very important and glamorous subject. A lot of us felt that if we couldn't get into science, we might try engineering or medicine. ~ John Henry Carver
Carver quotes by John Henry Carver
Grief"

Woke up early this morning and from my bed
looked far across the Strait to see
a small boat moving through the choppy water,
a single running light on. Remembered
my friend who used to shout
his dead wife's name from hilltops
around Perugia. Who set a plate
for her at his simple table long after
she was gone. And opened the windows
so she could have fresh air. Such display
I found embarrassing. So did his other
friends. I couldn't see it.
Not until this morning. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Plain Kate, Kate the Carver
No one's friend and no one's daughter
Little Kate might meet her fate
Whittling sticks till it's too late ~ Erin Bow
Carver quotes by Erin Bow
You can't teach people anything. You can only draw out. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
My purpose alone must be God's purpose. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
What's there to tell? The people over there embrace for a minute, and then they go inside the house together. They leave the light burning. Then they remember, and it goes out. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Supernatural hasn't spent a lot of time on relationship stories, and this is a really nice mechanism to do that without imposing that on the forward momentum of these other stories that we're telling. In the writers' room we tend to say, "We're never going to be able to give a hell or Purgatory as good as people's imaginations," so the instinct is normally not to go there. But, we went the other way this year and said, "We are going to go there," because there's a really, really strong character thing going on down there. ~ Jeremy Carver
Carver quotes by Jeremy Carver
We don't use the words begetting or begotten much in modern English, but everyone still knows what they mean. To beget is to become the father of: to create is to make. And the difference is this. When you beget, you beget something o the same kind as yourself. A man begets human babies, a beaver begets little beavers and a bird begets eggs which turn into little birds. But when you make, you make something of a different kind from yourself. A bird makes a nest, a beaver builds a dam, a man makes a wireless set – or he may make something more like himself than a wireless set: say, a statue. If he is clever enough carver he may make a statue which is very like man indeed. But, of course, it is not a ream man; it only looks like one. It cannot breathe or think. It is not alive.

Now that is the first thing to get clear. What God begets is God; just as what man begets is man. What God creates is not God; just as what man makes is not man. That is why men are not Son's of God in the sense that Christ is. They may be like God in certain ways, but they are not things of the same kind. They are more like statues or pictures of God. ~ C.S. Lewis
Carver quotes by C.S. Lewis
When a reader finishes a wonderful story and lays it aside, he should have to pause for a minute and collect himself. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Alex decided he'd had enough. He put down his knife. "All right," he said. "You've made it pretty clear that you don't want to work with me. Well, that's fine. Because I don't want to work with you either. And for what it's worth, nobody would ever believe you were my mom because no mom would ever behave like you."
"Alex ... ," Carver began.
"Forget it! I'm going back to London. And if you're Mr. Byrne asks why, you can tell him I didn't like the jelly, so I went home to get some jam. ~ Anthony Horowitz
Carver quotes by Anthony Horowitz
Such beauty that for a minute
death and ambition, even love,
doesn't enter into this. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
It's not a terribly original thing to say, but I love Raymond Carver. For one thing, he's fun to read out loud. ~ Ira Glass
Carver quotes by Ira Glass
After considering the matter from every angle I decided that the best strategy I could adopt would be to treat my blindness as if it were a minor detail rather than a major catastrophe. I would thus be turning the tables on my handicap; in fact, striking at its very potency. I was careful, however, not to delude myself; the way would not be easy. Although I was over the wall, there was a wilderness beyond it, one totally unknown to me, and I would have to remind myself constantly that the manner in which I traveled through this wilderness depended a great deal on my attitude. ~ Sonora Carver
Carver quotes by Sonora Carver
Where there is no vision, there is no hope. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
Two days ago, in the afternoon, Amanda said to me, "I can't read books any more. Who has the time?" It was the day after Oliver had left, and we were in this little café in the industrial part of the city. "Who can concentrate any more?" she said, stirring her coffee. "Who reads? Do you read?" (I shook my head.) "Somebody must read, I guess. You see all these books around in store windows, and there are those clubs. Somebody's reading," she said. "Who? I don't know anybody who reads. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Making an effort is the firm foundation to your success. You are worth the effort. ~ Regina R. Carver
Carver quotes by Regina R. Carver
Fear of something is at the root of hate for others, and hate within will eventually destroy the hater. Keep your thoughts free from hate, and you need have no fear from those who hate you. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
Whatever you love opens its secrets to you. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
If a man who has a million dollars walks down the street and sees some valuable article in a shopwindow that he wants to buy, he goes in and buys it without any thought of what it costs, but if a man without any money sees the same article and feels the same desire to own it he immediately realizes he can't have it because he hasn't the money. The point is, if you have it you don't think about it, but if you don't have it the realization is often thrust upon you. ~ Sonora Carver
Carver quotes by Sonora Carver
In our community here in Boston, we have had a tremendous influx of Russian Jews and Haitians. We call these people immigrants. But they come for the same reasons that William Bradford and William Brewster and John Carver came. ~ Kathryn Lasky
Carver quotes by Kathryn Lasky
I also remember my own smugness… that somehow, because I was so careful and well behaved - the attentive listening, the regular sex, my self-appointed role as #1 Fan of Adam Carver - our marriage was insulated. That what happened to those other foolish couples would never happen to us because I was so on guard against it. I lost myself in becoming Adam's wife, and later, the girls' mother. I forgot to be a person, too, a person who was well within her rights to say, "I'm too tired, tonight, honey. How about a back rub instead? I would really appreciate it. ~ Kristan Higgins
Carver quotes by Kristan Higgins
Gus the driver is everywhere and yet he appears nowhere, not in portraits or photographs, not even in the stories of men like Barthelme and Carver, who were all about guys with jobs and prospects like Gus's but who insisted on more sorrow, more angst, than Gus remotely manifests. If Gus weeps sometimes for no reason, if he stands despairing in the aisle of a Wal-Mart, it is not apparent in his daily demeanor ... ~ Michael Cunningham
Carver quotes by Michael Cunningham
A great danger, or at least a great temptation, for many writers is to become too autobiographical in their approach to their fiction. A little autobiography and a lot of imagination are best. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
From a literary standpoint, I've been loving Raymond Carver's short stories, William Carlos Williams' poems, Richard Siken's 'Crush', John Fante, and Jim Harrison's book of ghazals. I love film and photography too, so many of my songs are very image rich from those influences. ~ Greta Salpeter
Carver quotes by Greta Salpeter
I thought for a minute of the world outside my house, and then I didn't have any more thoughts except the thought that I had to hurry up and sleep. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Island Records used what we built and tried to cash in on it which is so annoying. So it came time to do Carver City record and Island wanted to do it and we're just like "What's the point?" I mean, at that point they were even admitting like, "Yeah, we're just gonna do what we've always done." ~ Jess Margera
Carver quotes by Jess Margera
Raymond Carver is good. I think he'll be appreciated more and more. He's an easy writer to imitate. ~ Leslie Fiedler
Carver quotes by Leslie Fiedler
In his better moments, Mr Baxter is a decent, ordinary guy - a guy you wouldn't mistake for anyone special. But he is special. In my book, he is. For one thing he has a full night's sleep behind him, and he's just embraced his wife before leaving for work. But even before he goes, he's already expected home a set number of hours later. True, in the grander scheme of things, his return will be an event of small moment - but an event nonetheless. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
There was a time when I thought I loved my first wife more than life itself. But now I hate her guts. I do. How do you explain that? What happened to that love? What happened to it, is what I'd like to know. I wish someone could tell me. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
After moving his family from Yakima to Paradise, California, in 1958, he enrolled at Chico State College. There, he began an apprenticeship under the soon-to-be-famous John Gardner, the first "real writer" he had ever met. "He offered me the key to his office," Carver recalled in his preface to Gardner's On Becoming a Novelist (1983). "I see that gift now as a turning point." In addition, Gardner gave his student "close, line-by-line criticism" and taught him a set of values that was "not negotiable." Among these values were convictions that Carver held until his death. Like Gardner, whose On Moral Fiction (1978) decried the "nihilism" of postmodern formalism, Carver maintained that great literature is life-connected, life-affirming, and life-changing. "In the best fiction," he wrote "the central character, the hero or heroine, is also the 'moved' character, the one to whom something happens in the story that makes a difference. Something happens that changes the way that character looks at himself and hence the world." Through the 1960s and 1970s he steered wide of the metafictional "funhouse" erected by Barth, Barthelme and Company, concentrating instead on what he called "those basics of old-fashioned storytelling: plot, character, and action." Like Gardner and Chekhov, Carver declared himself a humanist. "Art is not self-expression," he insisted, "it's communication. ~ William L. Stull
Carver quotes by William L. Stull
Believe. The promise of God are real. They are as real, as solid, yes infinitely more solid than this table which the materialist so thoroughly believes in. If you would only believe, O ye of little faith. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
We try to get out of these cocoons and make our way down to where our bodies are. We try shoplifting and racist/sexist/ageist humor (trying to offend our way out); we get naked on stage. We try sleep deprivation and razors on our skin. We date creepy, scary sleazes who we half-hope, half-fear might do the cutting for us. But we're so used to living inside a dream, even cutting feels dreamy. We can't get out. We can't wake up. ~ Lisa Crystal Carver
Carver quotes by Lisa Crystal Carver
How far you go in life depends on
your being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged,
sympathetic with the striving and
tolerant of the weak and strong.
Because someday in your life
you will have been all of these. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
My lungs are thick with the smoke of your absence. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
All the authors I studied, all the historical figures, with the exception of George Washington Carver, and all those figures I looked upon as having importance were white men. I didn't mind that they were men, or even white men. What I did mind was that being white seemed to play so important a part in the assigning of values. ~ Walter Dean Myers
Carver quotes by Walter Dean Myers
Weeks later, she said: 'The guy was about middle-aged. All his things right there in his yard. No lie. We got real pissed and danced. In the driveway. Oh, my God. Don't laugh. He played us these records. Look at this record-player. The old guy gave it to us. And all these crappy records. Will you look at this shit?'
She kept talking. She told everyone. There was more to it, and she was trying to get it talked out. After a time, she quit trying ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
I am rich in memory, and as long as I have it to rehearse and define I am not really blind. ~ Sonora Carver
Carver quotes by Sonora Carver
I believe that the great Creator has put ores and oil on this Earth to give us a breathing spell ... as we exhaust them, we must be prepared to fall back on our farms, which are God's true storehouse. We can learn to synthesize materials for every human need from things that grow. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. ~ George Washington Carver
Carver quotes by George Washington Carver
I don't want to talk to anybody. Actually, I'd talk to Molly, if I could, but I can't any longer - she's somebody else now. She isn't Molly any more. But - what can I say? - I'm somebody else, too. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
The beauty parlor is where everything interesting in life, everything alluring, is experienced firsthand, physically, rather than through the spectrum of some screen or another. It's so emotional in there! And all these people are stroking your hair. The atmosphere is centuries old, yet very now too. Elba is not bound to our technological era. Were armageddon to befall us tomorrow and wipe our electricity and organized delivery systems, elba would still have a job. Her gossip would take the place of associated press wire services. Instead of using bleach in a bottle, she'd squeeze the juice out of an unfortunate iguana directly onto her customer's hair. A woman like elba finds a way. ~ Lisa Crystal Carver
Carver quotes by Lisa Crystal Carver
Happiness. It comes on unexpectedly. And goes beyond, really, any early morning talk about it. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
It is August.
My life is going to change. I feel it. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
After a minute, you continue writing.
she screams again.
you wonder how long this can go on. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
key. 'Duggan, Grant!' she yelled. 'Chisel, hammer, now!' Howard grabbed the tools from the guards. He set the chisel against the lock and cracked it open with a single strike. Lucy flung open the freezer lid. The smell hit them like a physical blow. Trying not to retch, Lucy swung her torch beam inside. A girl was lying on her side. She was naked. She wore a handcuff on her left wrist which didn't appear to be secured to anything. ~ C.J. Carver
Carver quotes by C.J. Carver
Remember Haydn's 104 symphonies. Not all of them were great. But there were 104 of them. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Xander, there are two certainties in life--death and truth. They will both pursue you to your grave. There is no escaping them. But we run from them anyway in hopes that somehow we can slip by unnoticed. In the end, one or both of them catch up. Running doesn't solve anything. ~ A.C. Williams
Carver quotes by A.C. Williams
My life is going to change. I feel it. ~ Raymond Carver
Carver quotes by Raymond Carver
Mills' office was just the same: big, bright and bold. But ~ Tania Carver
Carver quotes by Tania Carver
My dad read, I think, the Perry Mason mysteries and Zane Grey and some humor compendiums ... And then at one point, the bookmobile started coming to town. That was really cool. I mean, that was when I read my first Raymond Carver story. I think that was probably 1969 or so. I must have been 13. ~ Tom Drury
Carver quotes by Tom Drury
