There is nothing like the cure of fresh air for cases of bladder infection, paranoia, and Cartesian thinking. ~ Rawi Hage
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Rawi Hage
He was making my mouth mine, letting me be the one that decided to be kissed. And then I wasn't thinking anymore. I was just a girl kissing a boy and free falling into the beauty of permission. ~ Debra Anastasia
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Debra Anastasia
Buses and trains both set you thinking, but not in the same way. Trains give you a rhythm, sent you into dreams, cut you off from reality. Buses were always stopping and starting; traffic, road-junctions, lights; and of course, bus-stops. The world you passed through was observable. And real. So was the world inside your head. Buses were good places to worry on. ~ Reginald Hill
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Reginald Hill
Are you hungry?" he asked, knowing that she must be starving.

"Yes, but I think-"

"We should go out on a date tonight? I totally agree," he said, cutting her off because he had a feeling that she was about to suggest something he wouldn't like.

"A date?" she repeated, sounding a bit confused.

"Yeah, a date," he said, grabbing her hands and pulling her to her feet while she still looked confused as hell. He gave her a little nudge to get her moving in the direction of the stairs. "You know where I pick you up, you keep me waiting for a half hour, we go out, and I charm you while you hang on my every word. We eat, we talk and then at the end of the night you invite me in for a cup of coffee and I pretend to think it over since I'm such a gentleman," he said, choosing to ignore her little snort of disbelief as he guided her towards the stairs.

"But-"

"No, buts," he said, giving her another nudge to get her up the stairs. "Get your little butt up there and put something on that will drive me out of my mind."

"But-"

"Go," he said, giving her another nudge that thankfully got her moving. "The sooner you get dressed the sooner you can start fawning over me like a proper date and remember just because I agreed to go out on this date with you doesn't mean that I'm easy. I expect you to do a little work to get me out of my pants."

He couldn't have his future wife thinking he was easy afte ~ R.L. Mathewson
Cartesian Thinking quotes by R.L. Mathewson
Gardeners, I think, dream bigger dreams than Emperor's. ~ Mary Cantwell
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Mary Cantwell
I have a lot of problems with fifteen-minute jazz-funk jams as well. I don't care about instrumental prowess. I don't care about quick-thinking improvisational skill. At all. I'm a songwriter and I'm familiar with Cage and I couldn't really care about what notes people can think of quickly. It doesn't interest me and I'm astounded that it interests other people still. Improvisation is what you do in the process of making something better. ~ Matt Thorne
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Matt Thorne
I didn't grow up as a religious person under any sort of system or anything like that, I just felt like I've always been sort of intrigued by that - how it can make people's lives better - I mean, it's a powerful thing. So I was interested in thinking about that kind of stuff. ~ Panda Bear
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Panda Bear
Being a mom is hard, I think a lot of working moms feel that way. ~ Gwen Stefani
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Gwen Stefani
It's immoral and wrong that the top 1 percent of the USA owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent. We should look at countries like Denmark and Sweden and Norway and look at what they've accomplished for their working people. ~ Bernie Sanders
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Bernie Sanders
I bizarrely think that this [Sin City] is the perfect date movie. If a guy took me on a date to see this movie, I would marry him, for sure. It's bad-ass chicks and rad dudes, who are sexy, all over the place, and there's so much cool action. ~ Jessica Alba
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Jessica Alba
If you are a writer or any kind of artist, if you change something as fundamental as where you live - the way you live - then I think you change the very instrument that is trying to make the art. ~ Dani Shapiro
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Dani Shapiro
Anything and everything you can think of can turn your life around. ~ Nik Halik
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Nik Halik
The coolest thing, and I have it at home, is a huge Hulk Hogan, normal-sized pinball machine. When people come over they play it for hours. When you hit the bumpers and the bells ring it goes, 'Oh yeah!' The whole time you're playing this machine it's yelling and screaming at you, 'What you gonna do, brother?!' I think that's the coolest. ~ Hulk Hogan
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Hulk Hogan
Perhaps what matters," Sunstein muses, "is not whether people are right on the facts, but whether they are frightened." And people do seem to be frightened. We are locking our doors and pulling our children out of public school and buying guns and ritually sanitizing our hands to allay a wide range of fears, most of which are essentially fears of other people. All the while we are also, in our way, reckless. We get intoxicated, from the Latin "to poison," for fun. This contradiction leads Sunstein to worry that regulatory laws based on the priorities of the general public maybe prone to a pattern of "paranoia and neglect." Too much attention may be spent on minimal risks, while too little is paid to pressing threats. Paranoia, the theorist Eve Sedgwick observes, tends to be contagious. She calls it a "strong theory," meaning a wide-ranging, reductive theory that displaces other ways of thinking. And paranoia very frequently passes for intelligence. As Sedgwick observes, "to theorize out of anything but a paranoid critical stance has come to seem naïve, pious, or complaisant." She does not believe that paranoid thinking is necessarily delusional or wrong, but only that there is value to approaches that are less rooted in suspicion. "Paranoia," Sedgwick writes, "knows some things well and others poorly. ~ Eula Biss
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Eula Biss
We want so badly to be happy – to live the kinds of lives that we always hoped we'd live – that we give gifts to ourselves by remembering things not as they were, but as we wish they were. ~ Dathan Auerbach
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Dathan Auerbach
I think fiction is all about the exercise of the empathetic imagination. Part of what I do is let the stuff I read about meld with what I have experienced. ~ Jim Shepard
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Jim Shepard
He sighed. The clouds I can handle. But I can't fight with an eclipse. ~ Stephenie Meyer
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Stephenie Meyer
The worthless and offensive members of society, whose existence is a social pest, invariably think themselves the most ill-used people alive, and never get over their astonishment at the ingratitude and selfishness of their contemporaries. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
The first step is to stop thinking of nature as something far away that we must save from someone else and start seeing it all around us. The first step is to open our eyes to the existence of nature in our daily lives. ~ Nathanael Johnson
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Nathanael Johnson
The refreshing serenity of mountains, streams and more forests in Pennsylvania gave way to small communities and the more thickly-settled towns of New Jersey. And finally, New York City.

It took us six days to get there, and as I crossed the George Washington Bridge I remember thinking how amazing this was. I was back in New York. A city that takes no crap.

I was back amongst Carefree Scamps who I could trust with my life ~ Karl Wiggins
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Karl Wiggins
The belief that we are what the media says we are, what people perceive we are, is soon to be what we think we are. We are treated based on this warped perception. It is hard to get away from it. ~ Kevin Eubanks
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Kevin Eubanks
A distraction can be your greatest gift to yourself. Remember, when it starts to feel like our thoughts are thinking us, it's due to the fact that we have developed certain patterns of thoughts that keep us stuck. When we are able to successfully distract ourselves we can withdraw from these mental ruts and change the direction of our focus and, in turn, the course of our daily lives. ~ D.S. Luca
Cartesian Thinking quotes by D.S. Luca
My son has been known to throw a book at the television set when he called for me to come play and I was obviously busy in the box. But I'm told that children of television performers grow up thinking that all mommies or daddies work on TV and that it's no big deal. ~ Jane Pauley
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Jane Pauley
No people are true Christians who do not think constantly of how they can lift their brother and sister, how they can assist their friends, how they can enlighten mankind, how they can make virtue the rule of conduct in the circle in which they live. ~ Woodrow Wilson
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Woodrow Wilson
In Kyoto I never experienced an air raid, but once when I was sent to the main factory in Osaka with some orders for spare parts for aircraft, there happened to be an attack and I saw one of the factory workers being carried out on a stretcher with his intestines exposed.
What is so ghastly about exposed intestines? Why, when we see the insides of a human being do we have to cover our eyes in terror? Why are people so shocked by the sight of blood pouring out? Why are a man's intestines ugly? Is it not exactly the same in quality as the beauty of youthful, glossy skin? What sort of face would Tsurukawa make if I were to say that it was from him I had learned this manner of speaking - a manner of thinking that transformed my own ugliness into nothingness? Why does there seem to be something inhuman about regarding human beings like roses and refusing to make any distinction between the inside of their bodies and the outside? If only human beings could reverse their spirits and their bodies, could gracefully turn them inside out like rose petals and expose them to the spring breeze and the sun . . . ~ Yukio Mishima
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Yukio Mishima
You only have control over three things in your life-the thoughts you think, the images you visualise, & the actions you take. ~ Jack Canfield
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Jack Canfield
The Soul of Money is an inspired and utterly fascinating book. It will change the way you think about money ... It is a book for everyone who would like to make the world a better place. ~ Jane Goodall
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Jane Goodall
I think that the consumer is generally unaware of certain material facts, particularly the tax risk and compensation issues. ~ Ric Edelman
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Ric Edelman
I think that an actor who is working should be a happy actor. ~ Brian Dietzen
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Brian Dietzen
I think because I came from a very strong news background and people were aware of me from that side of things, they appreciated me as a journalist. Maybe it was less difficult for me. ~ Jill Douglas
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Jill Douglas
I think one of the lessons of the Depression - and this is something that Franklin Roosevelt demonstrated - was that when orthodoxy fails, then you need to try new things. And he was very willing to try unorthodox approaches when the orthodox approach had shown that it was not adequate. ~ Ben Bernanke
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Ben Bernanke
I think it's important to know what you're going to do with the ball before it comes to you. So you're always thinking before hand and when the ball comes to you to can make the pass straight away. ~ Rafael Van Der Vaart
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Rafael Van Der Vaart
I do not think I should care to go on worshipping a Madonna even if she did wink. One cannot make much out of a wink. We want something more than that from the object of our adoration. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Charles Spurgeon
I hope my visual language inspires others to tell their stories and challenges people's thinking. ~ Aurora Guerrero
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Aurora Guerrero
I think we need to recover the depth, the subtlety, the generosity of imagination, the respect for wisdom that so marked Islam in its great ages. ~ Prince Charles
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Prince Charles
The good news is that we can sometimes control the "circles" around us, moving toward smaller circles that boost our relative happiness. If we are at our class reunion, and there's a "big circle" in the middle of the room with a drink in his hand, boasting of his big salary, we can consciously take several steps away and talk with someone else. If we are thinking of buying a new house, we can be selective about the open houses we go to, skipping the houses that are above our means. If we are thinking about buying a new car, we can focus on the models that we can afford, and so on. We ~ Dan Ariely
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Dan Ariely
The U.S. Government hasn't maintained secrecy regarding UFOs. It's been leaking out all over the place. But the way it's been handled is by denial, by denying the truth of the documents that have leaked. By attempting to show them as fraudulent, as bogus of some sort. There has been a very large disinformation and misinformation effort around this whole area. And one must wonder, how better to hide something out in the open than just to say, 'It isn't there. You're deceiving yourself if you think this is true.' And yet, there it is right in front of you. ~ Edgar Mitchell
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Edgar Mitchell
When I look around the world and think why is everything working or not working, it's because it's entrenched ideology. You can't solve a problem if you're sitting down with people who say, "All these ideas are off the table because of what I believe." ~ Steven Soderbergh
Cartesian Thinking quotes by Steven Soderbergh
