If I'd known about all the masturbating I would generate - well, that would've been extraordinarily weird from many angles and I'm glad it didn't come up, as it were. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I shot through my twenties like a luminous thread through a dark needle, blazing toward my destination: Nowhere. ~ Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Movies were meant to stay on the screen, flat and large and colorful, gathering you up into their sweep of story, carrying you rollicking along to the end, then releasing you back into your unchanged life. But this movie misbehaved. It leaked out of the theater, poured off the screen, affected a lot of people so deeply that they required endless talismans and artifacts to stay connected to it. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
The hairstyle that was chosen would impact how everyone - every filmgoing human - would envision me for the rest of my life. (And probably even beyond - it's hard to imagine any TV obituary not using a photo of that cute little round-faced girl with goofy buns on either side of her inexperienced head.) ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I suspect that no matter what happens I will allow it to hurt me. Eat away at my insides, as it were - as it will be. As it always has been. ~ Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
To make him important in one's life requires an overactive imagination. Unfortunately, mine never knows when to quit. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
--when men approach me to let me know that I was their first love, lets just say I have mixed feelings. Why did all these men find it so easy to be in love with me then and so complex to be in love with me now? ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
We lie buried together during the night and haunt each other by day. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
If my life wasn't funny it would just be true, and that is unacceptable. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Here's how men think. Sex, work - and those are reversible, depending on age - sex, work, food, sports and lastly, begrudgingly, relationships. And here's how women think. Relationships, relationships, relationships, work, sex, shopping, weight, food. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
What worries me is, what if this guy is really the one for me and I just haven't had enough therapy yet for me to be comfortable with having found him. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Her other boyfriend before me was a druggie, too. I don't mean... he was a druggie. I like drugs, but he was a druggie . It's like she just goes out with people who take drugs so she can pick on them. Joan of Narc, patron saint of the addict. - Alex ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Take your broken heart, make it into art. ~ Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
But George actually does have a point, because you know when they send out those space probes and they beam back footage of what it looks like up there? All those films ever show are sand and rocks. I've never seen a bra in any of that footage. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Sometimes she'd just walk around the city alone. Watch the people, smell the food, the bus exhaust, the smoke coming up through the grating. She'd feel protected somehow, found a sense of belonging in the hectic sprawl. And the next minute she'd feel like the one who couldn't break the code, hit the right stride, catch the wave. Potholes and traffic and bums, oh my. With all the honking and the hum of movement, the living, breathing blur of noise gently pressing in on her, the great purr of the Metropolitan Cat turning into a dull roar. She'd feel so silent on the inside, her head as quiet as a stretch of sand, a cathedral silently worshipping the life that was all around her, storing it up for later when she needed some 'too much' to draw upon. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I didn't realize I actually had post-traumatic stress disorder at the time, but why would I think I had that? Anyway, how would I know which was post-traumatic stress, which is addiction, which is bipolar, which is Libra? ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Who do you want them to think you are? How do you think people see you? Or don't you let them near enough to see. You make up their minds for them. Do you think you succeed in convincing people that you are what you seem to be? You make people meet you on your own territory. You don't help them. You let them verbally hang themselves and then feel better about yourself, your power, your own sense of worth. You have the power to alienate them and if they allow it, you might even manage to make them feel awkward and foolish--foolish for letting you affect them at all. Do you want them to like you? Or are you one of those people who "don't care what people think." You're not living your life for them, so why should you give a fuck what people think? You make people come to you and, when they eventually do, you punish them with your smugness. Nothing ever out of character. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Actually,I am a failed anorexic. I have anorexic thinking, but I can't seem to muster the behavoir ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I highly recommend your doing: find an equivalent of killing a giant space slug in your head and celebrate that. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Everything grows rounder and wider and weirder, and I sit here in the middle of it all and wonder who in the world you will turn out to be. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Vultures are difficult to charm unless you're off somewhere rotting in the noonday sun. Casually rotting…a glib cadaver. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
A lot of the time, I'm just smart enough to be unhappy. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Everyone else got to wear their regular outfits from the first movie. I had to wear my outfit that Jabba picked out for me. Jabba the Hutt - the fashionista. Jabba the Hutt - the Coco Chanel of intergalactic style. Trendsetter, fashion maven, leader of women's looks in his world, on his planet and the next. In wax, I would forever be outfitted by outlaw Jabba. In wax and out, I would forever be stone-faced. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I was born imagining myself with an apron on, with pies cooling on the window sill and babies crying upstairs. I thought that all that stuff would somehow anchor me to the planet, that it was the weight I needed to keep from just flying off into space. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
You know how most illnesses have symptoms you can recognize? Like fever, upset stomach, chills, whatever.
Well, with manic depression, it's sexual promiscuity, excessive spending, and substance abuse - and that just sounds like a fantastic weekend in Vegas to me! ~ Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
You needn't ever make mountains out of molehills again. You have misjudged yourself. You are not who you think you are. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
My father was a joyous, joyous spirit, he really was. He was a hedonist, that was just - he enjoyed life, thrust up to the elbows with it. He was a terrible father. I don't know that he was parented that well. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Sid said that drugs weren't the problem, life was the problem. Drugs were the solution. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
But I did - I did want to write a book, and I knew what the first line would be: "Maybe I shouldn't have given the guy who pumped my stomach my phone number, but he'll never call me anyway. No one will ever call me again." And this was based on a true thing. See, the doctor that pumped my stomach sent me flowers. With a note that read: "I can tell that you are a very warm and sensitive person." All that from the contents of my stomach! I was tempted to marry him so I could tell people how we met. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
So Pat showed me a variety of exotic looks - from Russian princesses to Swedish maids. I looked at the images, slightly alarmed. There was no Lady Gaga to guide me. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What's important is the action. You don't have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I actually met Carrie Fisher a couple of years ago. When I told her that she was my first crush, she insisted that we get married and have a reality show about it. I'm lucky to have made it out of that weekend without getting married. ~ Joe Manganiello
Carrie Fisher quotes by Joe Manganiello
Some of the more sought-after signers are, in no particular order, presidents, military heroes, sports icons, actors, singers, artists, religious and social leaders, scientists, astronauts, authors, and Kardashians. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
One can never call me a quitter
I take something right and see it
through till it's wrong
Auctioning myself off to the lowest bidder
Going once, going twice
Gone
Sold to the man for the price of disdain
Some are sold for a song
I don't rate a refrain
I guess it was all going just a little too well
If I wasn't careful I'd be happy pretty soon
Heaven's no place for one who thrives on hell,
One who prefers the bit to the silver spoon.
Then just when I'd almost resigned myself to winning
When it seemed my bright future would never dim
When my luck looked as though it was only beginning
I met him.
Sullen and scornful; a real Marlboro man
The type who pours out the beer and eats the can
A tall guy with a cultivated leer
One you can count on to diaprove or disappear
I knew right away that he was a find
Given this, he was the kindest man I'd ever met
Back came my sense of worthlessness
And my long lost pangs of regret
I was my old self again, lost and confused
Reunited with that old feeling
Of being misunderstood and misused.

Sold to the man for the price of disdain
All of this would be interesting
If it weren't so mundane ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
While she'd been drying her hair, she'd come up with a new message for her answering machine - "I'm out, deliberately avoiding your call" - and that simple burst of creativity had raised her spirits a bit. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I don't want to be thought of as a survivor because you have to continue getting involved in difficult situations to show off that particular gift, and I'm not interested in doing that anymore. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
My mentors are people like Cameron Crowe and Carrie Fisher. ~ Courtney Love
Carrie Fisher quotes by Courtney Love
Youth and beauty are not accomplishments. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I thought I would inaugurate a Bipolar Pride Day. You know, with floats and parades and stuff! On the floats we would get the depressives, and they wouldn't even have to leave their beds - we'd just roll their beds out of their houses, and they could continue staring off miserably into space. And then for the manics, we'd have the manic marching band, with manics laughing and talking and shopping and fucking and making bad judgment calls. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
And I ultimately not only addressed it, I named my two moods Roy and Pam. Roy is Rollicking Roy, the wild ride of a mood, and Pam is Sediment Pam, who stands on the shore and sobs. (Pam stands for "piss and moan.") One mood is the meal, and the next mood is the check. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I love the idea of God, but it's not stylistically in keeping with the way I function. I would describe myself as an enthusiastic agnostic who would be happy to be shown that there is a God. I can see that people who believe in God are happier ... But I doubt. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
The world of manic depression is a world of bad judgment calls. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
For Star Wars, they had me tape down my breasts because there are no breasts in space. I have some. I have two. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I had never been Princess Leia before and now I would be her forever. I would never not be Princess Leia. I had no idea how profoundly true that was and how long forever was. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I found out when I did the Oprah Winfrey show that there was a cookie jar of me. So she gave it to me. I had no idea prior to that that it even existed. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
When we started filming, I tried to keep myself well under the radar so that the powers that be wouldn't notice that I hadn't lost the weight they'd asked me to. I only weighed 110 pounds to begin with, but I carried about half of them in my face. I think they may have put those buns on me so they might function as bookends, keeping my face right where it was, between my ears and no bigger. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
She wanted so to be tranquil, to be someone who took walks in the late-afternoon sun, listening to the birds and crickets and feeling the whole world breathe. Instead, she lived in her head like a madwoman locked in a tower, hearing the wind howling through her hair and waiting for someone to come and rescue her from feeling things so deeply that her bones burned. She had plenty of evidence that she had a good life. She just couldn't feel the life she had. It was as though she had cancer of the perspective. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
All I can say is that when millions of plastic dolls of you are being sold each day and an equal number of teenage boys are masturbating over you each night, it's bound to do something screwy to your psyche. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Well, when the Enquirer becomes your standard for living, you're in a lot of trouble! When ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
So it stood to reason that if I could disappoint my own father - if I couldn't get my own father to love me enough to stick around or, God forbid, visit more often than one day a year - how was I ever going to get a man who didn't have to love me like daddies were supposed to? (Hey, ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
What doesn't kill men makes them stronger. What doesn't kill women makes men breakfast. ~ Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I feel I'm very sane about how crazy I am. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Samuel Johnson once said that remarrying (and he's not talking about marrying the same person here, just remarrying) is the "triumph of hope over experience." So for me, remarrying the same person is the triumph of nostalgia over judgment. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
As we all know, there is no underwear in space. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
The only thing worse than being hurt is everyone knowing that you're hurt. ~ Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
You were very serious," her grandmother continued. "You had these big brown eyes and you were always going, 'What's that? What's that?' You wondered what everything was. You would frown and point a lot, like a conductor looking for your orchestra. You always seemed very busy, like you were between appointments all the time, but you were just a little child. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I used to refer to my drug use as putting the monster in the box. I wanted to be less, so I took more - simple as that. Anyway, I eventually decided that the reason Dr. Stone had told me I was hypomanic was that he wanted to put me on medication instead of actually treating me. So I did the only rational thing I could do in the face of such as insult - I stopped talking to Stone, flew back to New York, and married Paul Simon a week later. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I not only feel better about myself because these people are also fucked up (and I guess this gives us a sense of community), but I feel better because look how much these fellow fuckups managed to accomplish! ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Perpetual celebrity - the kind where any mention of you will interest a significant percentage of the public until the day you die, even if that day comes decades after your last real contribution to the culture - is exceedingly rare, reserved for the likes of Muhammad Ali. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I was barely old enough to vote but I could easily enlist in the army, and I enlisted into the army of him. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
My want can only do so much in terms of changing what's actually occuring with other people, and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't want to feel that if I had wanted something more, or had said one other thing, or had worn a different dress, or had been more mysterious, or more open, then I would get something or someone I wouldn't get otherwise. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I have a chemical imbalance that, in its most extreme state, will lead me to a mental hospital. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I knew what show business was, which was why I didn't want in on that action. I saw what happens! You get it, and then you lose it. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Tell the truth, be kind, all that corny stuff. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
The world was his shower and he used women for soap. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
You see, even after decades of therapy and workshops and retreats and twelve-steps and meditation and even experiencing a very weird session of rebirthings, even after rappeling down mountains and walking over hot coals and jumping out of airplanes and watching elephant races and climbing the Great Wall of China, and even after floating down the Amazon and taking ayahuasca with an ex-husband and a witch doctor and speaking in tongues and fasting (both nutritional and verbal), I remained pelted and plagued by feelings of uncertainty and despair. Yes, even after sleeping with a senator, and waking up next to a dead friend, and celebrating Michael Jackson's last Christmas with him and his kids, I still did not feel - how shall I put this? - mentally sound. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
...I thought you had to go to Iraq to get post traumatic stress disorder. And you do. But you can also just come on over to my house! ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Imagine having a mood system that functions essentially like weather - independently of whatever's going on in your life. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I am mentally ill. I can say that. I am not ashamed of that. I survived that, I'm still surviving it, but bring it on. Better me than you. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I had to comport myself with something approaching dignity, at twenty. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Take your broken heart and make it to the heart. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
But let's face it, the world of sex is weird no matter how you look at it. I mean-fourteen hours after you've had your face smashed into someone's genitals, you're walking down the street with the boy as though that were all just fine, thank you, how are you! ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I am closer to who I want to be when I am alone lately. With people, I hear my voice and I just wonder who or what I'm doing all this for. Spreading myself out in front of people. Devaluing my ostensible worth by being so readily available to almost any random pedestrian who wanders into the crosswalk of my focus. If someone is within an earshot I shoot off at the mouth. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I wish that I could leave myself alone. I wish that I could finally feel that I punished myself enough. That I deserved time off for all my bad behavior. Let myself off the hook, drag myself off the rack where I am both torturer and torturee. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Don't you see? We've become smart enough to justify stupid behavior. Like, 'I'm angry at him and I didn't express it, so I turned my anger inward and now it's depression, so in order to feel good again, what I should do is call him and express my anger.' It's like, if we can make it sound smart enough, we're allowed to do stupid things. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
If talking were aerobic, I'd be the thinnest person in the world. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
So when I was 24, someone suggested to me that I was bipolar, and I thought that was ridiculous. I just thought he was trying to get out of treating me. But he was also responding to the chaotic nature of my life. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
I may not take cristicism well, but that doesn't mean I'm not hearing it. I'll hear it later. Right now I'm storing it in my delayed response area, because it's hard for me. I wish I was someone who welcomed cristicism and immediately understood its valeu, but I'm not, and if I look unhappy about this, I am. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Mistakes are a drag, because you get in the area of regret and self-pity. ~ Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher quotes by Carrie Fisher
Statistics say that a range of mental disorders affects more than one in four Americans in any given year. That means millions of Americans are totally batshit.
but having perused the various tests available that they use to determine whether you're manic depressive. OCD, schizo-affective, schizophrenic, or whatever, I'm surprised the number is that low. So I have gone through a bunch of the available tests, and I've taken questions from each of them, and assembled my own psychological evaluation screening which I thought I'd share with you.
So, here are some of the things that they ask to determine if you're mentally disordered
1. In the last week, have you been feeling irritable?
2. In the last week, have you gained a little weight?
3. In the last week, have you felt like not talking to people?
4. Do you no longer get as much pleasure doing certain things as you used to?
5. In the last week, have you felt fatigued?
6. Do you think about sex a lot?
If you don't say yes to any of these questions either you're lying, or you don't speak English, or you're illiterate, in which case, I have the distinct impression that I may have lost you a few chapters ago. ~ Carrie Fisher
