Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Van Doren
I can't write unless I'm overlooking water. ~ Mark Carwardine
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Carwardine
Is it possible to love something so much, you imagine it wants to destroy you only because it has denied you? ~ Mark Z. Danielewski
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Z. Danielewski
The thing that strikes you most about being a soldier in a war zone and in action to the small extent that I was, when actually people start shooting, which happened to me a couple of times, everything goes on automatic and there's a feeling of tremendous elevation and even elation. ~ Mark Helprin
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Helprin
A tranquil city of good laws, fine architecture, and clean streets is like a classroom of obedient dullards, or a field of gelded bulls - whereas a city of anarchy is a city of promise. ~ Mark Helprin
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Helprin
Trauma, if it doesn't destroy us, wakes us up both to our own relational capacities and to the suffering of others. Not only does it makes us hurt, it makes us more human, caring, and wise. ~ Mark Epstein
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Epstein
There is no greater egoism than that of learning when it is treated simply as a mark of personal distinction to be held and cherished for its own sake ... [K]knowledge is a possession held in trust for the furthering of the well-being of all ~ John Dewey
Caporaso Mark quotes by John Dewey
This autobiography of mine is a mirror, and I am looking at myself in it all the time. Incidentally I notice the people that pass along at my back - I get glimpses of them in the mirror - and whenever they say or do anything that can help advertise me and flatter me and raise me in my own estimation, I set these things down in my autobiography. ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
Which suggested to me that a novel could be fashioned as a raft of hope, perception and entertainment that might help keep us afloat as we tried to negotiate the snags and whirlpools that mark our nation's vacillating course toward and away from the democratic ideal. ~ Ralph Ellison
Caporaso Mark quotes by Ralph Ellison
Mark swings his own door open and meets us by the tailgate. "Why don't we ask Emma who she's coming with? I mean, it's her choice, right?"
The look Galen gives me is clear: Take care of this, or I will. Or maybe it's more like, It would be my pleasure to take care of this. Either way, I don't want Mark taken care of.
Standing between them, the testosterone-to-air ratio is almost suffocating. If I pick Galen, the chances of Mark ever calling me again are as good as Galen eating a whole cheesecake by himself. If I choose Mark, the changes of Galen not wielding his built-in brass knuckles are as good as Rayna giving someone a compliment.
My desire to salvage this date with Mark is almost as strong as my desire to salvage his face from certain disfigurement. But salvaging the date as opposed to his face would be selfish in the long run. I sigh in defeat. "I'm sorry, Mark."
Mark lets out a gust of air. "Ouch." Scratching the back of his neck, he chuckles. "I guess I should be more superstitious, huh?"
He's right. I screwed this up. I should have salvaged the date, his pride. And I should have broken Galen's Royal nose with my own Syrena fist. I turn to His Highness. "Galen, could you give me a minute please? You'll have the next hour to talk to me since you're taking me straight home."
Without a word, Galen nods and walks away.
I can't quite meet Mark's eyes when I say, "I'm so sorry. I don't know what his deal is. He never acts like this." Excep ~ Anna Banks
Caporaso Mark quotes by Anna Banks

Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Mason
Let us save the tomorrows for work. ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
I know Mark,' I reply. 'And I don't like him.'
'But I do. And part of being social means being civil to someone you don't like.'
'That's stupid. It's a huge world. why not just get up and walk away?'
'Because that's rude,' Jess explains.
'I think it's rude to stick a smile on your face and pretend you like talking to someone when in reality you'd rather be sticking bamboo slivers under your fingernails. ~ Jodi Picoult
Caporaso Mark quotes by Jodi Picoult
All the really pretty girls get pregnant. ~ Mark Hoppus
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Hoppus
...our low regard for nostalgia often seems not to rest on some substantive standard of excellence, in light of which a preference for the past is seen as missing the mark, but rather expresses idolatry of the present. This kind of "forward-thinking" is at bottom an apologetic species of conservatism, as it defers to and celebrates whatever is currently ascendant. ~ Matthew B. Crawford
Caporaso Mark quotes by Matthew B. Crawford
As an actor, you want to do the best job possible, and you want the best scripts possible because it makes life more interesting. ~ Mark Strickson
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Strickson
When Facebook was getting started, nothing used real identity - everything was anonymous or pseudonymous - and I thought that real identity should play a bigger part than it did. ~ Mark Zuckerberg
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Zuckerberg
What a shame that Christianity had come here!If the white man had not intruded where he was not wanted, where he did not belong, even now protected by the mountains and the river, the village would have remained a last stronghold of a culture which was almost gone.Mark tried to say that no village,no culture can remain static. I have often thought that if this lively and magnificent land belongs to anyone,it's to the birds and the fish. They were here long before the first Indian and when the last man is gone from the Earth,it will be theirs again. ~ Margaret Craven
Caporaso Mark quotes by Margaret Craven
Manage me, I am a mess, swept under the rug of yesterday's home improvement, a whimsical urge tossed aside for the easy reassurance of home and comfort. I am the photograph tucked away as a book-mark, in a book left half unread, once reopened to find memories crawling back into peripheral sight, faded, creased and lonely. I long to be admired, long to be held, torn and laughed at, laughed with, like a distant relative or an old friend breathing in their last breath. I missed the moment when time collapsed and memory was erased, replaced by finicky social experiments, lost in the blur of intoxication, sucked through multi-colored bendy-straws, making way for a spinning world where hub-caps stood still, but our vision didn't. If I could leave you with only one thing, it would be small, foldable, and made from trees, with a few careless words, scribbled in blue; Take a minute to learn me, take a moment to love me, because I need your love to live, and without it, I am nothing. ~ Alex Gaskarth
Caporaso Mark quotes by Alex Gaskarth
That's what I love about music ... all these banalities suddenly turn into these beautiful, effervescent pearls. ~ Mark Ruffalo
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Ruffalo
Once you accept you're a child in the government nursery, why shouldn't Nanny tell you what to do? ~ Mark Steyn
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Steyn
25 years later, you know, I haven't really put too much emphasis on any kind of individual goal, other than trying to win any particular night, trying to find a way to do that. ~ Mark Messier
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Messier
I was in one of the most grand attitudes I ever struck, with my arm stretched up pointing to the sun. It was a noble effect. You could see the shudder sweep the mass like a wave. ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
Souls are complicated things. ~ Mark Helprin
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Helprin
You look different," Snorri said. "I think 'even more handsome' was the phrase you were looking for. ~ Mark Lawrence
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Lawrence
Glutathione is also the most critical and integral part of your detoxification system. All the toxins stick onto glutathione, which then carries them into the bile and the stool - and out of your body. ~ Mark Hyman, M.D.
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Hyman, M.D.
Yes, take it all around, there is quite a good deal of information in the book. I regret this very much; but really it could not be helped.
-from the Prefatory ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
One thing's for sure, everyone has something. Not everyone has a giant scar or a missing limb to show for it, but it's there. The indelible mark of that thing. It's that thing that will not just go away quietly. That thing you resent because it can't let one day go by without making you think about it no matter how hard you try, until you end up depressed/angry/drunk/isolated (at best), disassociated (middle) or utterly self-destructive (at worst). It's that thing that went and branded you without your permission. ~ Anne Clendening
Caporaso Mark quotes by Anne Clendening
If we only understood that when we devote our lives to the glory of God, our existence on planet earth will leave marks
eternal marks. ~ Beth Moore
Caporaso Mark quotes by Beth Moore
The rumors of the White Sox demise are greatly exaggerated. ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
Gentleman, it is a terrifying thing for a woman to trust a sinful man. ~ Mark Driscoll
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Driscoll
Consider the great Samuel Clemens. Huckleberry Finn is one of the few books that all American children are mandated to read: Jonathan Arac, in his brilliant new study of the teaching of Huck, is quite right to term it 'hyper-canonical.' And Twain is a figure in American history as well as in American letters. The only objectors to his presence in the schoolroom are mediocre or fanatical racial nationalists or 'inclusivists,' like Julius Lester or the Chicago-based Dr John Wallace, who object to Twain's use - in or out of 'context' - of the expression 'nigger.' An empty and formal 'debate' on this has dragged on for decades and flares up every now and again to bore us. But what if Twain were taught as a whole? He served briefly as a Confederate soldier, and wrote a hilarious and melancholy account, The Private History of a Campaign That Failed. He went on to make a fortune by publishing the memoirs of Ulysses Grant. He composed a caustic and brilliant report on the treatment of the Congolese by King Leopold of the Belgians. With William Dean Howells he led the Anti-Imperialist League, to oppose McKinley's and Roosevelt's pious and sanguinary war in the Philippines. Some of the pamphlets he wrote for the league can be set alongside those of Swift and Defoe for their sheer polemical artistry. In 1900 he had a public exchange with Winston Churchill in New York City, in which he attacked American support for the British war in South Africa and British support for the American war ~ Christopher Hitchens
Caporaso Mark quotes by Christopher Hitchens
I couldn't bear to think about it; and yet, somehow, I couldn't think about nothing else. ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
Swimming isn't everything, winning is. ~ Mark Spitz
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Spitz
Most men have at least one redeeming feature. Finding one for Brother Rike requires a stretch. Is 'big' a redeeming feature? ~ Mark Lawrence
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Lawrence
Sunday morning came – next day the battalions would leave for the front; the church was filled; the volunteers were there, their young faces alight with martial dreams – visions of the stern advance, the gathering momentum, the rushing charge, the flashing sabers, the flight of the foe, the tumult, the enveloping smoke, the fierce pursuit, the surrender! Then home from the war, bronzed heroes, welcomed, adored, submerged in golden seas of glory! With the volunteers sat their dear ones, proud, happy, and envied by the neighbors and friends who had no sons and brothers to send forth to the field of honor, there to win for the flag, or, failing, die the noblest of noble deaths. The service proceeded; a war chapter from the Old Testament was read; the first prayer was said; it was followed by an organ burst that shook the building, and with one impulse the house rose, with glowing eyes and beating hearts, and poured out that tremendous invocation ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
Nor ever yet the melting rainbow's vernal-tinctur'd hues to me have shone so pleasing, as when first the hand of science pointed out the path in which the sun-beams gleaming from the west fall on the watery cloud. ~ Mark Akenside
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Akenside
Christian proclamation might make the gospel audible, but Christians living together in local congregations make the gospel visible (see John 13:34-35). The church is the gospel made visible. ~ Mark Dever
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Dever
The greatest fault of a penetrating wit is to go beyond the mark. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Caporaso Mark quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
How solemn and beautiful is the thought, that the earliest pioneer of civilization, the van-leader of civilization, is never the steamboat, never the railroad, never the newspaper, never the Sabbath-school, never the missionary - but always whiskey! Such is the case. Look history over; you will see. The missionary comes after the whiskey - I mean he arrives after the whiskey has arrived; next comes the poor immigrant, with ax and hoe and rifle; next, the trader; next, the miscellaneous rush; next, the gambler, the desperado, the highwayman, and all their kindred in sin of both sexes; and next, the smart chap who has bought up an old grant that covers all the land; this brings the lawyer tribe; the vigilance committee brings the undertaker. All these interests bring the newspaper; the newspaper starts up politics and a railroad; all hands turn to and build a church and a jail - and ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
There have been times," Father Mark admitted, "when I feared that God would turn out to be like my maternal grandmother [...] Ours was a large family, and every Christmas my grandmother gave gifts of cash in varying amounts, claiming she was rewarding her grandchildren according to how much they loved her. She swore she could look right into our hearts and know. One child would get a crisp fifty-dollar bill, the next a crumpled single. No two gifts were ever in the same amount."
Miles nodded. "Well, maybe there's a hell. ~ Richard Russo
Caporaso Mark quotes by Richard Russo
There are too many stars in some places and not enough in others. ~ Mark Twain
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Twain
To get a save in the World Series is the reason I can't stop smiling. ~ Mark Buehrle
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Buehrle
Like a surgeon's scalpel, hope can save a life, and hope can take a life. It can uplift us, and it can destroy us. Just as there are healthy and damaging forms of confidence, and healthy and damaging forms of love, there are also healthy and damaging forms of hope. And the difference between the two is not always clear. ~ Mark Manson
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Manson
And people do enjoy the plays at completely different levels. And, likewise, they enjoy the authorship question ... at completely different levels. ~ Mark Rylance
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Rylance
If you ever want to eat a tuna sandwich again, don't go to a tuna factory. I visited one where they had two lines: one was the human food line and one was the cat food line - and they didn't look any different. ~ Mark Mobius
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Mobius
The miracle of Good Friday is that there was no miracle. Legions of angels stood - with swords sheathed - watching as the Son took our place. ~ Mark Hart
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Hart
Theoretically, pickling can be accomplished without salt, but the carbohydrates and proteins in the vegetables tend to putrefy too quickly to be saved by the emerging lactic acid. Without salt, yeast forms, and the fermentation process leads to alcohol rather than pickles. ~ Mark Kurlansky
Caporaso Mark quotes by Mark Kurlansky
