A retaliator behaves like a hawk when he is attacked by a hawk, and like a dove when he meets a dove. When he meets another retaliator he plays like a dove. A retaliator is a conditional strategist. His behaviour depends on the behaviour of his opponent. ~ Richard Dawkins
Butterball Plays quotes by Richard Dawkins
And the pathetic part of it is that frequently those who have the least justification for a feeling of achievement bolster up their egos by a show of tumult and conceit which is truly nauseating. As Shakespeare put it: ... man, proud man, / Drest in a little brief authority, / ... Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven / As make the angels weep. ~ Dale Carnegie
Butterball Plays quotes by Dale Carnegie
I wanted all my life to give my world into other arts - books, plays, movies - but I didn't want to sell out. ~ Philippe Petit
Butterball Plays quotes by Philippe Petit
My priorities are leaning more towards family, and I credit my southern upbringing to that. I was raised in the church as well, and God plays a big role in my upbringing and my life. ~ Omari Hardwick
Butterball Plays quotes by Omari Hardwick
He went out with a variety of women, slept with some of them, hated the whole meaningless process. Drinks, dinners, plays and concerts and gallery openings ... He grew to despise the rigid formality of dating, missed the easy familiarity of simply being with someone, sharing friendly silences and unforced laughter. ~ Ken Grimwood
Butterball Plays quotes by Ken Grimwood
As long as that song plays, I get to put my hands on you, and I can't guarantee I'm going to be a complete gentleman about it. ~ Meredith Wild
Butterball Plays quotes by Meredith Wild
The rhythm built up, high resonant notes from the buzzing xylophone, the off-scale dipping warble of the flute, the eerie, strangely primeval bass of the synthesizer.
The others punctuated the music with claps and sudden piercing shrieks from behind their veils. Suddenly one began to sing in Tamashek.
"He sings about his synthesizer," Gresham murmured.
"What does he say?"
I humbly adore the acts of the Most High,
Who has given to the synthesizer what is better than a soul.
So that, when it plays, the men are silent,
And their hands cover their veils to hide their emotions.
The troubles of life were pushing me into the tomb,
But thanks to the synthesizer,
God has given me back my life. ~ Bruce Sterling
Butterball Plays quotes by Bruce Sterling
When I first started writing plays I couldn't write good dialogue because I didn't respect how black people talked. I thought that in order to make art out of their dialogue I had to change it, make it into something different. Once I learned to value and respect my characters, I could really hear them. I let them start talking. ~ August Wilson
Butterball Plays quotes by August Wilson
Baseball, football, basketball - these quintessentially American pastimes are recognizably sports because they involve play: they are games. One plays football, one doesn't play boxing ... The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness. ~ Joyce Carol Oates
Butterball Plays quotes by Joyce Carol Oates
[...] The idea of honor in battle has been passed down for generations. It went from Greece to Rome, to the medieval world and the Crusades. It was beloved of Sir Philip Sidney, Essex and Southampton [...]. In many ways, the British Empire was founded on it [...] The idea came to a halt in the First World War [...] The poets, led by Wilfred Owen, told the truth about it "[...] The old lie : 'Dulce el decorum est pro patria mori'.
[...]Henry IV Part I is a play with much "honor". Honor is its central theme. So let's examine Henry IV Part I for a moment, to understand the ingredients of "honor". [...] You will notice there are not many women in these plays [about honor]-and when they appear, they are usually whores or faifthful wives. Honor is not a woman's story[...] 'What is honour? A word', (...) a mere scutcheon" [says] Falstaff's iconoclasm and truthful vision about honor.
{...]There are several things we can see in all this. The first is that war is a man´s game, it is intolerable, and the only way you can get people to do it is to make the alternative seem a hundred times worse [...] Therefore, valor must be glorified, if not deified. [...] ~ Tina Packer
Butterball Plays quotes by Tina Packer
Despite being in showbiz, I have a very real approach to my life. It plays off with my social life. ~ Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Butterball Plays quotes by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Nick plays a corrupt politician, which is kind of a redundant statement. ~ Alan Rudolph
Butterball Plays quotes by Alan Rudolph
I had always wanted to be an actress. I went to summer theater camp from kindergarten on up until high school, and always had the leads in all the plays - even though they were at the YMCA - but it was something I always wanted to do. ~ Chloe Sevigny
Butterball Plays quotes by Chloe Sevigny
Suffice it to say I was compelled to create this group in order to find everyone who is, let's say, borrowing liberally from my INESTIMABLE FOLIO OF CANONICAL MASTERPIECES (sorry, I just do that sometimes), and get you all together. It's the least I could do.

I mean, seriously. Those soliloquies in Moby-Dick? Sooo Hamlet and/or Othello, with maybe a little Shylock thrown in. Everyone from Pip in Great Expectations to freakin' Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre mentions my plays, sometimes completely mangling my words in nineteenth-century middle-American dialect for humorous effect (thank you, Sir Clemens). Many people (cough Virginia Woolf cough) just quote me over and over again without attribution. I hear James Joyce even devoted a chapter of his giant novel to something called the "Hamlet theory," though do you have some sort of newfangled English? It looks like gobbledygook to me. The only people who don't seek me out are like Chaucer and Dante and those ancient Greeks. For whatever reason.

And then there are the titles. The Sound and the Fury? Mine. Infinite Jest? Mine. Proust, Nabokov, Steinbeck, and Agatha Christie all have titles that are me-inspired. Brave New World? Not just the title, but half the plot has to do with my work. Even Edgar Allan Poe named a character after my Tempest's Prospero (though, not surprisingly, things didn't turn out well for him!). I'm like the star to every wandering bark, the arrow of every compass, the buzzard to every haw ~ Sarah Schmelling
Butterball Plays quotes by Sarah Schmelling
Image plays a huge part in my music and in my lifestyle. ~ Theophilus London
Butterball Plays quotes by Theophilus London
Soccer is a continuous game, rugby is a continuous game, but for the physical elements that are involved in playing a football game and the number of plays that you play, I don't know that it was ever intended to be a continuous game. ~ Nick Saban
Butterball Plays quotes by Nick Saban
At a time when the words 'fake' and 'news' are being paired together, "Radio Okapi Kindu" honors journalism and the importance it plays in our daily lives. ~ Jennifer Bakody
Butterball Plays quotes by Jennifer Bakody
There's no working radio tower in the country. It's all static," she said, without looking to him. "I know. But 102.3 plays the best. Not too tinny. Full and robust. If a cello were to perform static, it would sound like this." She shook her head and turned the dial. "I prefer 93.9," she said. She still hadn't looked at him. "It's too thin and monotone. There's no variation. It just sounds like static." "And that's why I like it," she said. "It sounds like static is supposed to sound. ~ Anthony Marra
Butterball Plays quotes by Anthony Marra
That night at the Brooklyn party, I was playing the girl who was in style, the girl a man like Nick wants: the Cool Girl. Men always say that as the defining compliment, don't they? She's a cool girl. Being the Cool Girl means I am a hot, brilliant, funny woman who adores football, poker, dirty jokes, and burping, who plays video games, drinks cheap beer, loves threesomes and anal sex, and jams hot dogs and hamburgers into her mouth like she's hosting the world's biggest culinary gang bang while somehow maintaining a size 2, because Cool Girls are above all hot. ~ Gillian Flynn
Butterball Plays quotes by Gillian Flynn
I have never wanted to be typecast, one of those actors who plays a variation on a one-note theme. So just as I enjoy playing a wide variety of characters, from good to bad to ugly to cute - so I have enjoyed of late working in film and television, as well as in theatres of various sizes and shapes. ~ Ian McKellen
Butterball Plays quotes by Ian McKellen
When John took those naked pictures, the most popular singer was a girl with a tiny stick body and a large deferential head, who sang in a delicious lilt of white lace and promises and longing to be close. When she shut herself up in her closet and starved herself to death, people were shocked. But starvation was in her voice all along. That was the poignancy of it. A sweet voice locked in a dark place, but focused entirely on the tiny strip of light coming under the door.
I drop the rag in the bucket and smoke some more, ashing into the sink,. A tiny piece of the movie from the naked time plays on my eyeball: A psychotic killer is blowing up amusement parks. At the head of the crowd clamoring to ride the roller coaster is a slim, lovely man with long blond hair and floppy clothes and big, beautiful eyes fixed on a tiny strip of light that only he can see. ~ Mary Gaitskill
Butterball Plays quotes by Mary Gaitskill
I've redone plays of mine and made changes. A play is a living thing, and I'd never say I wouldn't rewrite years later. Tennessee Williams did that all the time, and it's distressing, because I'd like the play to be out there in its finished form. ~ Horton Foote
Butterball Plays quotes by Horton Foote
Tom Brady is good, real good ... but he plays in same league as I do. ~ Cam Newton
Butterball Plays quotes by Cam Newton
Cause you know that its a fool, who plays it cool, by making his world a little colder ...
- The Beatles ~ The Beatles
Butterball Plays quotes by The Beatles
You idiot! What do you call a person who plays the piano?' she said, a steely glint in her eyes. 'Pi . . . Pianist?' Derek mumbled. 'And a person who exorcises?' 'Ex . . . Exorcist?' 'So what would you call a person who prepares Mayo . . . whatever?' she screeched. And then the ball dropped. A trembling Derek gasped, 'Mayo . . . ist! Shit! ~ C.S. Krishna
Butterball Plays quotes by C.S. Krishna
I've always been interested in the Greek tragedies. A few years back, I re-read a translation of the 'The Oresteia,' and that stayed with me, and slowly this idea of using some of those old legends and plays to tell a new story about modern urban life began to form. ~ Peter Milligan
Butterball Plays quotes by Peter Milligan
He was not the type to say that experience is all to the good, that nothing is wasted in life, that everyone we meet and everywhere we go, down to the most squalid, insignificant job we hold, plays a tiny role in making us who we become ... There were no second chances in his book of life; you simply dipped into yourself and pawned the little that was left from earlier deaths. ~ Andre Aciman
Butterball Plays quotes by Andre Aciman
It's almost like, when someone plays poker for the first time, they might be a professional poker player out of ignorance, just accidentally winning. That was how it felt in my first stand-up appearance. ~ Jonah Hill
Butterball Plays quotes by Jonah Hill
Bernard sank into a yet more hopeless misery.
"But why is it prohibited?" asked the Savage. In the excitement of meeting a man who had read Shakespeare he had momentarily forgotten everything else.
The Controller shrugged his shoulders. "Because it's old; that's the chief reason. We haven't any use for old things here."
"Even when they're beautiful?"
"Particularly when they're beautiful. Beauty's attractive, and we don't want people to be attracted by old things. We want them to like the new ones."
"But the new ones are so stupid and horrible. Those plays, where there's nothing but helicopters flying about and you feel the people kissing." He made a grimace. "Goats and monkeys!" Only in Othello's word could he find an adequate vehicle for his contempt and hatred. ~ Aldous Huxley
Butterball Plays quotes by Aldous Huxley
When a young lady no longer plays with baby dolls or toy kitchens, and she's trying to find where she fits in today's society, she is told she needs to learn how to cook, clean, wash, and provide for her husband and family. Why is that so? ~ Charlena E. Jackson
Butterball Plays quotes by Charlena E. Jackson
Brian Auger is a superb technician on his instrument, but he also plays with feeling that is a rarity. I am looking forward in recording with him in the near future. ~ Eddie Harris
Butterball Plays quotes by Eddie Harris
If a child plays sport early in childhood, and doesn't give it up, he will play sport for the rest of his life. And if children have a connection with, and are involved in the preparation of, the food they eat, then it will be normal for them to cook these kind of meals, and they will go on cooking them for the rest of their lives. ~ Ferran Adria
Butterball Plays quotes by Ferran Adria
When a doting person gets down on all fours and plays with the dog's rubber mouse, it only confuses the puppy and gives him a sense of insecurity. He gets the impression that the world is unstable and wonders whether he is supposed to walk on his hind legs and smoke cigars. ~ Corey Ford
Butterball Plays quotes by Corey Ford
I always did plays. When I was in kindergarten, I got chosen to be Alvin in 'The Chipmunks.' We did a Chipmunks song. I was always a natural performer. It was easy for me. I danced and I sang, and all that stuff. I felt like I'd be something in the arts, but it vacillated between being a dancer and a singer, or whatever. ~ Kari Matchett
Butterball Plays quotes by Kari Matchett
I always did plays, I got the comedic roles in college ... or, uh, the ones that would get naked. ~ Amy Schumer
Butterball Plays quotes by Amy Schumer
Each of you will have a chance to play it, and whosoever plays most sweetly, you will have it. For art is more than virtue or vice. ~ Holly Black
Butterball Plays quotes by Holly Black
Right-wing propagandists like Limbaugh and Coulter are essentially entertainers, entertainers who stimulate prejudice, selfishness and meanness the way a comedian works for laughs or a tragedian plays for tears. Theirs is a new art form, exclusive to America and bewilderingly successful. In place of traditional conservative ideology, they offer their audience partisan belligerence and a complete package of mail-order hatreds, designed for the conceptually and ethically impaired. ~ Hal Crowther
Butterball Plays quotes by Hal Crowther
There are people these days who can do things on the guitar which are beyond my reach. There's one guy who plays with Queen who can do things I would dream of doing. I sincerely mean that. ~ Eric Clapton
Butterball Plays quotes by Eric Clapton
When an artist improvises and plays, she allows her intuitive self to meet up with her conscious mind. ~ Naomi Kinsman
Butterball Plays quotes by Naomi Kinsman
I got cast in a school play and I fell in love with that. I felt comfortable on stage and found out it was a brilliant way of expressing myself and I was happy and I could do it. ~ Douglas Booth
Butterball Plays quotes by Douglas Booth
I think forgiveness plays a very important part in Western society and it comes from the Judeo Christian heritage. ~ Ibn Warraq
Butterball Plays quotes by Ibn Warraq
I really only did theater in school in college. I did summer stock a couple of times in the summer, and plays that the school put on. But I knew I wanted to be in movies.I really only did theater in school in college. I did summer stock a couple of times in the summer, and plays that the school put on. But I knew I wanted to be in movies. ~ Geena Davis
Butterball Plays quotes by Geena Davis
God in heaven sits on high and plays games with us. He has plenty to do up there, what with building worlds and then knocking them down again, breaking things up and then rebuilding them, and yet he can manage to put his mind even to a little grocer in his shop or to a babe in the cradle. ~ Shmuel Yosef Agnon
Butterball Plays quotes by Shmuel Yosef Agnon
You can pick any game and there are two or three plays that determine whether you win or lose, going either way. That's the beauty of the league, man. Every game counts, no matter who you're playing or what their record is. ~ Derrick Brooks
Butterball Plays quotes by Derrick Brooks
Orpheus never liked words. He had his music. He would get a funny look on his face and I would say what are you thinking about and he would always be thinking about music.
If we were in a restaurant sometimes Orpheus would look sullen and wouldn't talk to me and I thought people felt sorry for me. I should have realized that women envied me. Their husbands talked too much.
But I wanted to talk to him about my notions. I was working on a new philosophical system. It involved hats.
This is what it is to love an artist: The moon is always rising above your house. The houses of your neighbors look dull and lacking in moonlight. But he is always going away from you. Inside his head there is always something more beautiful.
Orpheus said the mind is a slide ruler. It can fit around anything. Show me your body, he said. It only means one thing. ~ Sarah Ruhl
Butterball Plays quotes by Sarah Ruhl
I commissioned this artist to make these silver tomahawks by hand. Larry Sellers, who plays Cloud Dancing on the show, blessed and cleansed them and all. ~ Joe Lando
Butterball Plays quotes by Joe Lando
Your heart plays a song like a broken music box, but nothing ever sounded quite so beautiful to me. Together, in the dance of wounded-wing swans we'll rise above the ruins, melting into the golden light. ~ John Mark Green
Butterball Plays quotes by John Mark Green
By the time I was 10, I was doing plays for Phoenix theater. My first lead role was as the Stinky Cheese Man. I got a taste of the limelight, and I just couldn't stop. It was a way for me to be the artistic, geeky kid that I was, and not get beat up. ~ Alexandra Shipp
Butterball Plays quotes by Alexandra Shipp
The biggest thing you need to be successful with it is a quarterback who wants to be involved in the decision-making process and not just merely want to execute plays sent in to him. ~ Tony Dungy
