Making those we love happy sounds innocent as a dove, but it can be as destructive as a lion. ~ Florida Scott-Maxwell
Busybodies quotes by Florida Scott-Maxwell
Once you assume your right to interfere in other people's problems they become in some ways more of a worry than your own, for with your own you can at least do what you think best, but other people always show such a persistent tendency to do the wrong thing. ~ Marion Milner
Busybodies quotes by Marion Milner
There is nothing more revolting than an old busybody. ~ Martial
Busybodies quotes by Martial
Be not unwilling in what thou doest, neither selfish nor unadvised nor obstinate; let not over-refinement deck out thy thought; be not wordy nor a busybody. ~ Marcus Aurelius
Busybodies quotes by Marcus Aurelius
Cruising along once again in this cesspool known as life, I realize that it is too late to make a detour. I will have to pass the anti-abortion pickets (50) outside of Planned Parenthood. Nothing gets on my nerves more than these pro-lifers. Not even astrology enthusiasts (51), Herman Hesse (52) or computer games (53). Look at these fools parading up and down! "Mind your own business," I yell. When one of these busybodies (a man, yet) approaches my car with literature, I lose control and scream, "I wish I was a girl so I could get an abortion!" Trembling with rage, I realize I'd better calm down before I get beat up, but can't resist one last taunt - "I hate the pope" (54), I yell to no one in particular. ~ John Waters
Busybodies quotes by John Waters
Think about it: What the busybodies are saying is that third parties like themselves
who are paying nothing to anybody
should be determining how much somebody else should be paying those who work for them. ~ Thomas Sowell
Busybodies quotes by Thomas Sowell
The one prediction that never comes true is, 'You'll thank me for telling you this. ~ Judith Martin
Busybodies quotes by Judith Martin
The weather is nature's disruptor of human plans and busybodies. Of all the things on earth, nature's disruption is what we know we can depend on, as it is essentially uncontrolled by men. ~ Criss Jami
Busybodies quotes by Criss Jami
The saying that people who have nothing to do become busybodies is not the only truth. Excitement is a drug, and people whose lives are filled with violence are always wondering where the next 'fix' is coming from. ~ Maya Angelou
Busybodies quotes by Maya Angelou
When people say they're too busy, ask them If they'll have time to die, and see If dead's gonna give a damn. ~ Michael Bassey Johnson
Busybodies quotes by Michael Bassey Johnson
It's dangerous business, thinking you can make people over. ~ Lenora Mattingly Weber
Busybodies quotes by Lenora Mattingly Weber
God save us from the people who want to do what's best for us. ~ Sue Grafton
Busybodies quotes by Sue Grafton
People who seek political power are, with exceptions too rare to matter, never to be trusted; at best, such people are vain and officious busybodies. People who actually achieve political power are to be trusted even less than those who seek it without success; winning elections requires a measure of deceitfulness and Machiavellian immorality that no decent person comes close to possessing. ~ Donald J. Boudreaux
Busybodies quotes by Donald J. Boudreaux
Remembering Mom's Clothesline -- There is one thing that's left out. We had a long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clotheslines up so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty.
I can hear my mother now...

THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:

(If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.)
1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the top.
2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the waistbands.
3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes - Walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.
4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," And hang them first.
5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail! What would the neighbors think?
6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend, Or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!
7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so you could Hide your "unmentionables" in the middle perverts & busybodies, y'know!)
8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather... Clothes would "freeze-dry."
9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes! Pins left on the lines were "tacky"!
10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item. Did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item.

Don't you meddle with me, and I won't meddle with you. ~ George Eliot
Busybodies quotes by George Eliot
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. ~ C.S. Lewis
Busybodies quotes by C.S. Lewis
It is my conviction that we make ourselves who we want to be and not chain ourselves to the notions of busybodies who wish to judge us. ~ Matthew Pearl
Busybodies quotes by Matthew Pearl
You know how some people are - they always feel they have to do things for other people's good, no matter what happens to the other people in the process! ~ Frances Parkinson Keyes
Busybodies quotes by Frances Parkinson Keyes
And they made good laws and kept the peace and saved good trees from being unnecessarily cut down, and liberated young dwarfs and young satyrs from being sent to school, and generally stopped busybodies and interferers and encouraged ordinary people who wanted to live and let live. ~ C.S. Lewis
Busybodies quotes by C.S. Lewis
Critics, mathematicians, scientists and busybodies want to classify everything, marking the boundaries and limits ... In art, there is room for all possibilities. ~ Pablo Picasso
Busybodies quotes by Pablo Picasso
The busybodies have begun to infect American society with a nasty intolerance - a zeal to police the private lives of others and hammer them into standard forms - A Nation of Finger Pointers. ~ Lance Morrow
Busybodies quotes by Lance Morrow
Busy people are never busybodies. ~ Ethel Mumford
Busybodies quotes by Ethel Mumford
Insistent advice may develop into interference, and interference, someone has said, is the hind hoof of the devil. ~ Carolyn Wells
Busybodies quotes by Carolyn Wells
But when no risk is taken there is no freedom. It is thus that, in an industrial society, the plethora of laws made for our personal safety convert the land into a nursery, and policemen hired to protect us become selfserving busybodies. ~ Alan Watts
Busybodies quotes by Alan Watts
The fatal attraction of government is that it allows busybodies to impose decisions on others without paying any price themselves. That enables them to act as if there were no price, even when there are ruinous prices - paid by others. ~ Thomas Sowell
Busybodies quotes by Thomas Sowell
Nest of Soviet fellow travelers clacking busybodies in a Soviet jellyfish front, sitting here in Leesburg oozing out their funny little propaganda and making nuisances of themselves. ~ Lyndon LaRouche
Busybodies quotes by Lyndon LaRouche
Every person whether Greek or Barbarian who is in training for wisdom, leading a blameless, irreproachable life, chooses neither to commit injustice nor return it unto others, but to avoid the company of busybodies, and hold in contempt the places where they spend their time courts, councils, marketplaces, assemblies in short, every kind of meeting or reunion of thoughtless people ... People such as these, who find their joy in virtue, celebrate a festival their whole life long. ~ Pierre Hadot
Busybodies quotes by Pierre Hadot
We are living in the era of the busybody. In ancient Greece, if a person wanted guidance, it involved a long, arduous expensive journey to consult the oracle at Delphi. Today, if you want guidance, all you have to do is unplug your ears. ~ Margo Kaufman
Busybodies quotes by Margo Kaufman
Professional is an apt definition for me, professional slouch, that is. I can be very professional at seeming to do work, but the real work is trying to do as little as possible, without getting caught by Trip or any nosey busybodies. ~ J.C. Patrick
