Music fills the space between them. Mark wants to take the pill that keeps him awake, but not in front of his daughter. Instead, he flirts. "There's a lot of trouble with a brown-eyed handsome man. In your travels have you found this to be true?"
This is Madeleine's favorite game. His role is to ask silly questions and hers is to answer as if he is serious, neither one acknowledging the other conversation that goes on wordlessly around them, in which some other, better version of themselves say: Isn't it nice to be father and daughter? ~ Marie-Helene Bertino
Brown Eyed quotes by Marie-Helene Bertino
She was both perfect and untouchable, a brown-eyed angel dressed in resplendent white, while he was older, world-weary and wanting. ~ Sylvain Reynard
Brown Eyed quotes by Sylvain Reynard
The seed of a blue lupin will usually produce a blue lupin. But the seed of a blue-eyed man may produce a brown-eyed bore ... especially if his wife has a taste for gigolos. ~ Beverley Nichols
Brown Eyed quotes by Beverley Nichols
Do you believe in Jesus?
Jesse looks at me so brown-eyed it hurts. He nods."I do," he says.
I sit up.
"I think you look like him. ~ Carol Lynch Williams
Brown Eyed quotes by Carol Lynch Williams
For her, their romantic interlude atop the staircase had been a glorious, magical, enlightening introduction to pleasure. For him,it had merely been Friday evening. ~ Anna Bennett
Brown Eyed quotes by Anna Bennett
Edward was always a good listener, since his own form of self-expression then consisted in making uneartly and to me quite meaningless sounds on his small violin. I remember him, at the age of seven, as a rather solemn, brown-eyed little boy, with beautiful arched eyebrows which lately, to my infinite satisfaction, have begun to reproduce themselves, a pair of delicate question-marks, above the dark eyes of my five-year-old son. Even in childhood we seldom quarrelled, and by the time that we both went away to boarding-school he had already become the dearest companion of thos brief years of unshadowed adolescence permitted to our condemned generation. ~ Vera Brittain
Brown Eyed quotes by Vera Brittain
They don't like me at all," Bunny said, " I went through puberty a little earlier than expected, that's all,"
A dark-brown eyed girl with a bowl-shaped haircut named Evelyn Vega pressed her index finger to her forehead. "Why don't we express a different kind of love, like the shopaholics we are?" She said. ~ Tiffany Fulton
Brown Eyed quotes by Tiffany Fulton
And again she wished for Sherwood, and the dappled roof of leaves that never weighed upon her. She pulled her scarf closer around her and thought, I would rather live in a hut in the woods; a hut like the one of my first memories, with a clean-swept dirt floor, and a brown-eyed boy watching me from behind his mother's skirts as I watched him from behind mine. ~ Robin McKinley
Brown Eyed quotes by Robin McKinley
Yes, as Damon had sat in the dimly-lit booth with Kenzy, he recognized the psychic screamer, and it was his own little redbird, Bonnie the brown-eyed enchantress, caught in a moment of unbearable trauma and funneling all her terror and distress into a tight psychic message addressed to him. Someone was hurting Bonnie, he'd realized, perhaps even killing her. That meant someone was going to be exceedingly sorry exceedingly soon. Whoever it was would learn the meaning of pain in a hundred languages before they would be allowed to die. Damon had flashed his most gorgeous barracuda smile at nothing at all. ~ L.J.Smith
Brown Eyed quotes by L.J.Smith
Making love in the green grass behind the stadium with you my brown eyed girl. ~ Van Morrison
Brown Eyed quotes by Van Morrison
Little sister don't you worry about a thing today
Take the heat from the sun
Little sister
I know that everything is not ok
But you're like honey on my tongue

True love never can be rent
But only true love can keep beauty innocent

I could never take a chance
Of losing love to find romance
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman
No I could never take a chance
'Cause I could never understand
The mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman

You can run from love
And if it's really love it will find you
Catch you by the heel
But you can't be numb for love
The only pain is to feel nothing at all
How can I hurt when I'm holding you?

I could never take a chance
Of losing love to find romance
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman

And you're the one, there's no-one else
who makes me want to lose myself
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman

Brown eyed girl across the street
On rue Saint Divine
I thought this is the one for me
But she was already mine
You were already mine...

Little sister
I've been sleeping in the street again
Like a stray dog
Little sister
I've been trying to feel complete again
But you're gone and so is God

The soul needs beauty for a soul mate
When the soul wants...the soul ~ U2
Brown Eyed quotes by U2
I fell in love with a brown-eyed angel in the middle of a football field, and I hadn't even talked to her yet. All it took was her laugh." - Mason Connor ~ Sarah Curtis
Brown Eyed quotes by Sarah Curtis
The air of the islands, she believed, was different than the air of other regions of the world. It engulfed her now, carrying with it flavors of sun-drenched soil and foam-flecked sea, aromas of virgin woods and naked rocks, its tang of citrus trees and its fizz of foreign wine-misted lips. It carried in its pockets the sounds of children's laughter, the clatter of drunken brawls, the mandolin music thrumming sensually from decades-old cassette tapes in the colorful souvenir shops where old ladies and young women waved at passersby. It came from near and far, rebounding off the blue-white flag strapped to ferry masts rearing above the sparkling waters, glinting in the brown-eyed winks and twirled mustaches of the locals. ~ Angela Panayotopulos
Brown Eyed quotes by Angela Panayotopulos
Indulge me this once, Meg. Her name was a whisper on his lips. Soft. Seductive. Meanwhile his eyes gleamed mischievously, daring her to say yes. ~ Anna Bennett
Brown Eyed quotes by Anna Bennett
There is a balance, a kind of standoff between the time continuum and the human entity, our frail bundle of soma and psyche. We eventually succumb to time, it's true, but time depends on us. We carry it in our muscles and genes, pass it on to the next set of time-factoring creatures, our brown-eyed daughters and jug-eared sons, or how would the world keep going. Never mind the time theorists, the cesium devices that measure the life and death of the smallest silvery trillionth of a second ... We were the only crucial clocks, our minds and bodies, way stations for the distribution of time. ~ Don DeLillo
Brown Eyed quotes by Don DeLillo
Shirley, "the little brown boy," as he was known in the family "Who's Who," was asleep in Susan's arms. He was brown-haired, brown-eyed and brown-skinned, with very rosy cheeks, and he was Susan's especial love. After his birth Anne had been very ill for a long time, and Susan "mothered" the baby with a passionate tenderness which none of the other children, dear as they were to her, had ever called out. Dr. Blythe had said that but for her he would never have lived. "I ~ L.M. Montgomery
Brown Eyed quotes by L.M. Montgomery
In explosive gasps Chook introduced us and we went inside. I could see that she was elderly by Chook's standards. Perhaps twenty-six or -seven. A brown-eyed blonde, with the helpless mournful eyes of a basset hound. She was a little weathered around the eyes. In the lounge lights I saw that the basic black had given her a lot of good use. Her hands looked a little rough. Under the slightly bouffant skirt of the black dress were those unmistakable dancer's legs, curved and trim and sinewy. ~ John D. MacDonald
Brown Eyed quotes by John D. MacDonald
A wet eyed preacher will never preach dry sermons ~ Leonard Ravenhill
Brown Eyed quotes by Leonard Ravenhill
The only thing that stands between you and your dream is the will to try and the belief that it is actually possible. ~ Joel Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Joel Brown
Almost nobody's competent, Paul. It's enough to make you cry to see how bad most people are at their jobs. If you can do a half-assed job of anything, you're a one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Brown Eyed quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
If you wait to live you will never succeed. Living begins today and it begins within you. ~ Asa Don Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Asa Don Brown
Inspirations never go in for long engagements; they demand immediate marriage to action. ~ Brendan Francis Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Brendan Francis Brown
The vineyard country, russet, reddish, carmine-brown in this season.
A blue outline of hills above a fertile valley.
It's warm as long as the sun does not set, in the shade cold returns.
A strong sauna and then swimming in a pool surrounded by trees.
Dark redwoods, transparent pale-leved birches.
In their delicate network, a sliver of the moon.
I describe this for I have learned to doubt philosophy
And the visible world is all that remains. ~ Czeslaw Milosz
Brown Eyed quotes by Czeslaw Milosz
How different her mother's world was from hers. How different our mothers' worlds are from all of ours. ~ Eleanor Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Eleanor Brown
Life was good when I counted my blessings. ~ Carolyn Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Carolyn Brown
Whether white, black, Asian, or Latino, American students rarely arrive at college as habitual readers, which means that few of them have more than a nominal connection to the past. It is absurd to speak, as does the academic left, of classic Western texts dominating and silencing everyone but a ruling elite or white males. The vast majority of white students do not know the intellectual tradition that is allegedly theirs any better than black or brown ones do. They have not read its books, and when they do read them, they may respond well, but they will not respond in the way that the academic left supposes. For there is only one 'hegemonic discourse' in the lives of American undergraduates, and that is the mass media. Most high schools can't begin to compete against a torrent of imagery and sound that makes every moment but the present seem quaint, bloodless, or dead. ~ David Denby
Brown Eyed quotes by David Denby
Cowdenbeath Football Club have always been at the centre of Cowdenbeath - literally and in every aspect of community life. ~ Gordon Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Gordon Brown
I have written a lot about the fine arts, but I'd never written about the literary arts, and so on some level Dante really, you know, spoke to me, as new ground but also familiar ground. ~ Dan Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Dan Brown
There were fat cats and skinny cats. The long-tailed and the bobbed. The daring young leapers, and the old windowsill sleepers. Balls of waddling fluff, smooth-coated prowlers, and hairless ones that looked fragile and wise. The tiger-striped, the ring-tailed, and the ones with matching coloured socks and mittens. There were tabbies and calicos. Manx and Persians. Siamese and Bombay. Ragdolls and Birmans. Maine Coons and Russian Blues. There were Snowshoes and Somalis, Tonkinese and Turkish, and many, many more. Brown and beige and orange and grey and black and white and silver cats, each with gleaming eyes of emerald, or sapphire, or amber. A rainbow of precious stones. ~ Brooke Burgess
Brown Eyed quotes by Brooke Burgess
When opportunity knocks, you don't leave it standing on the doorstep. You invite it in and feed it chocolate cake. ~ Carolyn Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Carolyn Brown
On the map she looked at, there was no place marker for Pate Island. No color brown or green to suggest her own existence within the sea. So she wanted to know about places that could be rendered invisible. ~ Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor
Brown Eyed quotes by Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor
There hasn't been a day in my life since I started Latin in ninth grade that I haven't benefited by the lives of the ancients. ~ Rita Mae Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Rita Mae Brown
The human mind has a primitive ego defense mechanism that negates all realities that produce too much stress for the brain to handle. It's called Denial. ~ Dan Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Dan Brown
Unlike the Kennedy dynasty, who always knew how to pay off people who might make trouble, the Windsors can't bring themselves to part with any royal trinkets. ~ Tina Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Tina Brown
Put it on record
--I am an Arab
And the number of my card is fifty thousand
I have eight children
And the ninth is due after summer.
What's there to be angry about?

Put it on record.
--I am an Arab
Working with comrades of toil in a quarry.
I have eight childern
For them I wrest the loaf of bread,
The clothes and exercise books
From the rocks
And beg for no alms at your doors,
--Lower not myself at your doorstep.
--What's there to be angry about?

Put it on record.
--I am an Arab.
I am a name without a tide,
Patient in a country where everything
Lives in a whirlpool of anger.
--My roots
--Took hold before the birth of time
--Before the burgeoning of the ages,
--Before cypess and olive trees,
--Before the proliferation of weeds.

My father is from the family of the plough
--Not from highborn nobles.
And my grandfather was a peasant
--Without line or genealogy.
My house is a watchman's hut
--Made of sticks and reeds.
Does my status satisfy you?
--I am a name without a surname.

Put it on Record.
--I am an Arab.
Color of hair: jet black.
Color of eyes: brown.
My distinguishing features:
--On my head the 'iqal cords over a keffiyeh
--Scratching him who touches it.
My address:
--I'm from a village, remote, forgotten,
--Its streets without name
~ Mahmoud Darwish
Brown Eyed quotes by Mahmoud Darwish
The face that Moses had begged to see – was forbidden to see – was slapped bloody (Exodus 33:19-20)

The thorns that God had sent to curse the earth's rebellion now twisted around his brow…

"On your back with you!" One raises a mallet to sink the spike. But the soldier's heart must continue pumping as he readies the prisoner's wrist. Someone must sustain the soldier's life minute by minute, for no man has this power on his own. Who supplies breath to his lungs? Who gives energy to his cells? Who holds his molecules together? Only by the Son do "all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17). The victim wills that the soldier live on – he grants the warrior's continued existence. The man swings.

As the man swings, the Son recalls how he and the Father first designed the medial nerve of the human forearm – the sensations it would be capable of. The design proves flawless – the nerves perform exquisitely. "Up you go!" They lift the cross. God is on display in his underwear and can scarcely breathe.

But these pains are a mere warm-up to his other and growing dread. He begins to feel a foreign sensation. Somewhere during this day an unearthly foul odor began to waft, not around his nose, but his heart. He feels dirty. Human wickedness starts to crawl upon his spotless being – the living excrement from our souls. The apple of his Father's eye turns brown with rot.

His Father! He must face his Father like this!

From heave ~ Joni Eareckson Tada
Brown Eyed quotes by Joni Eareckson Tada
I've always said that you know you're a poet when you type an em dash and you hit the delete button, and you type a colon and you hit the delete button, and you type an em dash and you hit the delete button, and you type a colon and you hit the delete button. If you can do that for about three hours straight, trying to figure out which one is the best one, if you can do that for three hours and call that a good time, then you're probably a poet. ~ Jericho Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Jericho Brown
A guilty conscience pushed me to try harder - which I did for what seemed like a tremendous amount of wasted time, staring bug-eyed at uncooperative pencils. What was missing? The answer seemed obvious - intense emotional incentive. But at the moment I didn't feel desperate or angry or afraid. Just severely bored out of my mind and guilt-ridden for feeling so mind-numbingly bored."
- from "Phantom's Veil ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Brown Eyed quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
Let's draw the boundary early not wait until it's obvious like Hitler's Germany and insist that the state shall never, never, take the life of a person! ~ Jerry Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Jerry Brown
The first black president was a hotter plot line than the first woman president. ~ Tina Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Tina Brown
But the pigs--seventy pounds of porcine weight that did not take kindly to weekly endoscopies--did not sprout any ulcers. And testing the theory on humans was ethically impossible: how could one justify infecting a human with a new, uncharacterized species of bacteria to prove that it caused gastritis and predisposed to cancer?
In July 1984, with his experiments stalled and his grant applications in jeopardy, Marshall performed the ultimate experiment: "On the morning of the experiment, I omitted my breakfast….Two hours later, Neil Noakes scraped a heavily inoculated 4 day culture plate of Helicobacter and dispersed the bacteria in alkaline peptone water (a kind of meat broth used to keep bacteria alive). I fasted until 10 am when Neil handed me a 200 ml beaker about one quarter full of the cloudy brown liquid. I drank it down in one gulp then fasted for the rest of the day. A few stomach gurgles occurred. Was it the bacteria or was I just hungry? ~ Siddhartha Mukherjee
Brown Eyed quotes by Siddhartha Mukherjee
Sons of Ares ARES Terrorist Leader, color unknown DANCER Ares' lieutenant, a Red HARMONY Dancer's lieutenant, a Red MICKEY Carver, a Violet EVEY former slave of Mickey, a Pink ~ Pierce Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Pierce Brown
Buddy eyed me closely. His eyes were filigreed with red. I watched as he went through one of those instantaneous mood swings that only drunks and menstruating women can manage. ~ G.M. Ford
Brown Eyed quotes by G.M. Ford
Perfectionism is a shield that we carry with a thought process that says this, 'If I look perfect, live perfect, work perfect, and do it all perfectly, I can avoid or minimize feeling shame, blame, and judgement. ~ Brene Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Brene Brown
All the time, of course, Laura or Mary was minding Baby Carrie, except when she had her afternoon nap. Then they sat and soaked in the sunshine and the wind until Laura forgot that the baby was sleeping. She jumped up and ran and shouted till Ma came to the door and said, "Dear me, Laura, must you yell like an Indian? I declare," Ma said, "if you girls aren't getting to look like Indians! Can I never teach you to keep your sunbonnets on?"
Pa was up on the house wall beginning the roof. He looked down at them and laughed.
"One little Indian, two little Indians, three little Indians," he sang, softly. "No, only two."
"You make three," Mary said to him. "You're brown, too."
"But you aren't little, Pa," said Laura. ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
Brown Eyed quotes by Laura Ingalls Wilder
I doubt if I shall ever outgrow the excitement bordering on panic which I feel the instant I know I have a strong, unmanageable fish, be it brook trout, brown trout, cutthroat, rainbow, steelhead or salmon on my line. ~ Ed Weeks
Brown Eyed quotes by Ed Weeks
Did you ever get the feeling that the world is a tuxedo and you're a pair of brown shoes? ~ George Gobel
Brown Eyed quotes by George Gobel
Don't be happy at me. ~ Jeffrey Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Jeffrey Brown
I know people that could serve me canned tuna and saltine crackers and have me feel more at home at their table than some people who can cook circles around me. The more you try to impress people, generally the less you do. ~ Alton Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Alton Brown
After every battle, he ritually dips his hood into the blood of his enemies. I've seen the hood, kept under glass in the armory. The fabric is stiff and stained a brown so deep it's almost black, except for a few smears of green.
Sometimes I go down and stare at it, trying to see my parents in the tide lines of dried blood. I want to feel something, something besides a vague queasiness. I want to feel more, but every time I look at it, I feel less. ~ Holly Black
Brown Eyed quotes by Holly Black
Her hair, brown.
Her speciality, damage. ~ Laura Mullen
Brown Eyed quotes by Laura Mullen
Lauren whirled her head around so quickly that the motion hurt her neck. Jared's hand came up and clamped the hat more firmly over his face. He adjusted his long body to another position, contracting and relaxing muscles that Lauren didn't know existed. But then, she had never seen a masculine physique like this before. His languid movements were repelling and thrilling at the same time. It was like watching some pagan god who was beautiful even in his decadence. ~ Sandra Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Sandra Brown
Don't give life to regrets and live on ifs and only, when you can no more unscramble an egg than change the past. ~ Nadia Janice Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Nadia Janice Brown
They slept that deep sleep reserved for babies and consenting adults who have worn their bodies out with hot sex. ~ Carolyn Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Carolyn Brown
Hey," said a soft voice.
Emma turned to see a boy with wavy hair and light brown skin looking at them with a mixture of annoyance and - no, it was mostly just annoyance.
"Raphael Santiago?" she said. ~ Cassandra Clare
Brown Eyed quotes by Cassandra Clare
John Brown's effort was peculiar. It was not a slave insurrection. ~ George Haven Putnam
Brown Eyed quotes by George Haven Putnam
That boy thinks the sun rises out of your backside. The good Lord knows why if all it produces is gas. ~ Sue Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Sue Brown
I once heard an author describe writing as taking bits and pieces of her experiences and observations, then she questions, dissects, and analyzes them. She extrapolates from them, stretching the thought out. Then she adds from her imagination a big dose of what might have been, a good measure of what would never be, and spices it all with wishful thinking. ~ Laurie Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Laurie Brown
Whatever you're seeking-it's seeking You ~ Les Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Les Brown
The vision of personalised public services - meeting the individual needs of all our citizens - requires continuing reform in the way services are delivered ~ Gordon Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Gordon Brown
Lily slid across the seat, wrapped her arms ~ Carolyn Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Carolyn Brown
my uncle told me that it's women who see us better than we see ourselves. That ~ Pierce Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Pierce Brown
I'm from my hood, and everybody knows me in my neighborhood, and that's cool, I can do what I want over there, but in other people's neighborhoods, I can't. ~ Danny Brown
Brown Eyed quotes by Danny Brown
Don't be afraid of loving this man, Maria had told her. Don't be afraid. Her slender fingers closed around the warm shaft with its velvet skin stretched smooth. Gently her fingers played over him, curious, wondering fingers, fingers made exultant by their discoveries.
Reflexively Jared arched his back. His head went back in a gesture of exquisite feeling. Then his chin lowered and he was searching her face again. His golden eyes shone bright with emotion. "Touch me, Lauren. Touch me until I die from the pleasure of it. Know all of me." His voice was breathy and uneven. ~ Sandra Brown
