I've committed myself to serve my constituents in South Shields and I have committed myself to British politics. ~ David Miliband
British Politics quotes by David Miliband
...Andrew Feldman put £2,000 behind the bar, and [David] Cameron told a joke about a farmer inviting a new neighbour to come to his house for a party where there might be dancing, drinking and 'rough sex'. When the neighbour asks what to wear, the farmer says, 'It doesn't matter, it's only going to be you and me. ~ Tim Shipman
British Politics quotes by Tim Shipman
I think this is what we must not lose sight of, present a confident, positive and optimistic platform for our country's future in which this Party appeals to the centre ground of British politics. ~ Nicky Morgan
British Politics quotes by Nicky Morgan
Listening to the shrill rhetoric of hard line Brexiteers - either extolling the virtues of a 'no deal' Brexit, or suggesting its inevitability is simply down to the intransigence of the EU - I am reminded of another great folly in British history: 'The Charge of the Light Brigade'. It is as if we are witnessing a modern day re-enactment of that foolhardy military manoeuvre in which a mix of poor communication, rash decisions and vainglorious personalities led to the needless massacre of countless cavalrymen. Messrs. Fox, Johnson and Rees-Mogg may relish the idea of charging headlong into battle against a well prepared and strongly defended position, immune to the ensuing casualties and collateral damage. It would be appreciated if they could kindly leave the rest of us out of their futile and reckless endeavours. ~ Alex Morritt
British Politics quotes by Alex Morritt
When the clowns of British politics - arch-Brexiteer cartoon characters 'Boorish Johnson' and 'JackOff Grease-Smug' advocate ad infinitum that Britain should leave the EU in order to be free to sign her own trade deals; they seem to have overlooked the towering elephant in the room, namely the current occupant of the White House (another clown) - who appears hell-bent on destabilising world trade via crude protectionist policies. Both Tories, despite receiving the best British education money can buy, would do well to revisit their post war history books and be reminded of one of the key objectives of the European Project and in due course the European Union - specifically to promote peace and prosperity amongst previously warring neighbours by forming a unified trading bloc which in time, due to its effective size, also acted as a useful counterweight to US hegemony. Go find another circus for your buffoonery and leave the deadly serious business of politics to principled individuals with the true national interest at heart ! ~ Alex Morritt
British Politics quotes by Alex Morritt
It is not polite for a Russian to interfere in British politics. ~ Alexander Lebedev
British Politics quotes by Alexander Lebedev
Any criticism of Thatcher throws a dangerously absurd light on the entire machinery of British politics. Thatcher's name must be protected, not because of all the wrong that she had done, but because the people around her allowed her to do it. ~ Morrissey
British Politics quotes by Morrissey
It is no longer acceptable in British politics to be fat or eccentric or religious. ~ Ian Hislop
British Politics quotes by Ian Hislop
One thing I have frankly decided is that when it comes to political reform we have two conservative parties in British politics. Both the Labour and Conservative parties have constantly and repeatedly failed to honour promises they have made about reforming, cleaning, modernising our clapped-out system. ~ Nick Clegg
British Politics quotes by Nick Clegg
British politics, as the world knows, is a joke. Yet it's rarely funny. ~ Morrissey
British Politics quotes by Morrissey
The Commons is one of the most depressing and intellectually unstimulating places in the country. [On the state of British politics ~ Clare Short
British Politics quotes by Clare Short
If there is any emergence of a fourth party in British politics, it is the task of the Liberal Party to strangle it at birth. ~ Cyril Smith
British Politics quotes by Cyril Smith
I'm highly political. I spend an awful lot of time in the U.S. trying to influence decision-makers. But I don't feel in tune with British politics. ~ Jane Goodall
British Politics quotes by Jane Goodall
What is it that unites, on the left of British politics, George Orwell, Billy Bragg, Gordon Brown and myself? An understanding that identity and a sense of belonging need to be linked to our commitment to nationhood and a modern form of patriotism. ~ David Blunkett
British Politics quotes by David Blunkett
The Conservatives do not want to go into an election with the leaders' relative ratings as they are - but it is depressing to hear that plans are afoot to paint Miliband as the Michael Dukakis of British politics: part of a metropolitan elite with no understanding of mainstream concerns. ~ Michael Ashcroft
British Politics quotes by Michael Ashcroft
I hear that there are plans afoot to produce a remake of Hans Christian Andersen's classic - 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. Who better to star in the leading role than recently defrocked Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson ? A narcissist with such naked ambition; an opportunist with such threadbare morals; a disgraced politician with such thinly veiled contempt for the British electorate, and judging by the sycophantic praise they heap on each other, arguably cut from the very same cloth as Donald Trump. Despite laughable pretensions of having the stature and fortitude of a modern day Churchill, he cuts a now lonely figure, a mere insignificant shadow. Boris, you can't hide anymore. Your warts and all are exposed for the whole world to see. ~ Alex Morritt
British Politics quotes by Alex Morritt
The most conservative man in this world is the British trade unionist when you want to change him. ~ Ernest Bevin
British Politics quotes by Ernest Bevin
That day -- Monday, 25 February 1980 -- unfolded, in the context of British politics, much like any other day. Government, in those days, happened rather like a tree falling in a forest when there was no one there to witness it. For those among the Great British Public who wanted to believe that something was happening, the assumption was that something was indeed most probably happening, while for those who still needed to see it, or hear it, to believe it, there remained a high degree of doubt that anything was happening at all. ~ Graham McCann
British Politics quotes by Graham McCann
I know too much about British politics to comment on British politics. ~ Helle Thorning-Schmidt
British Politics quotes by Helle Thorning-Schmidt
The problem with political ideologues such as arch Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg (a.k.a. JackOff Grease-Smug) is that they are totally divorced from reality with heads stuck firmly in the clouds. Add to that the priggish and rarefied demeanour of this particular outlandishly pompous ass and you end up with a complete disconnect with the way things actually work. Pragmatism and consensus articulated by compassionate people who live in the real world and with feet firmly on the ground must win the day with Britain's economic interests foremost in mind. Get on your Penny Farthing Jacob and start peddling fast. You are a tiresome irrelevance better consigned to a museum for musty relics. ~ Alex Morritt
British Politics quotes by Alex Morritt
If you want to know the real reasons why certain politicians vote the way they do - follow the money. Arch Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg (a.k.a. JackOff Grease-Smug) stands to make billions via his investment firm - Somerset Capital Management - if the UK crashes unceremoniously out of the European Union without a secure future trade deal. Why ? Because proposed EU regulations will give enforcement agencies greater powers to curb the activities adopted by the sort of off-shore tax havens his company employs. Consequently the British electorate get swindled not once, but twice. Firstly because any sort of Brexit - whether hard, soft, or half-baked - will make every man, woman and child in the UK that much poorer than under the status quo currently enjoyed as a fully paid up member of the EU. Secondly because Rees-Mogg's company, if not brought to heel by appropriate EU wide legislation, will deprive Her Majesty's Treasury of millions in taxes, thus leading to more onerous taxes for the rest of us. It begs the question, who else in the obscure but influential European Research Group (ERG) that he chairs and the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) that he subscribes to, have similar vested interests in a no-deal Brexit ? It is high time for infinitely greater parliamentary and public scrutiny into the UK Register of Members' Financial Interests in order to put an end to these nefarious dealings and appalling double standards in public life which only serve to further corrode public ~ Alex Morritt
British Politics quotes by Alex Morritt
To every man of us, Tobruk was a symbol of British resistance and we were now going to finish with it for good. ~ Erwin Rommel
British Politics quotes by Erwin Rommel
Only when I came to America did I think of myself as British. ~ Naveen Andrews
British Politics quotes by Naveen Andrews
These are the rules of big business. They have superseded the teachings of our parents and are reducible to a simple maxim: Get a monopoly; let Society work for you; and remember that the best of all business is politics, for a legislative grant, franchise, subsidy or tax exemption is worth more than a Kim-berly or Comstock lode, since it does not require any labor, either mental or physical, for its exploitation. ~ Frederic C. Howe
British Politics quotes by Frederic C. Howe
I had always been interested in politics. I had assumed, for a variety of - well, for two reasons, being Jewish and being gay back in the late '50s, early '60s - that I would never be elected or anything, but I would participate as an activist. ~ Barney Frank
British Politics quotes by Barney Frank
I usually call these endless discussions "religious debates," because they have a lot in common with most discussions of religion and politics: They consist largely of people expressing strongly held personal beliefs about things that can't be proven - supposedly in the interest of agreeing on the best way to do something important ~ Steve Krug
British Politics quotes by Steve Krug
The staunchest conservatives advocate a range of changes which differ in specifics, rather than in number or magnitude, from the changes advocated by those considered liberal ... change, as such, is simply not a controversial issue. Yet a common practice among the anointed is to declare themselves emphatically, piously, and defiantly in favor of 'change.' Thus those who oppose their particular changes are depicted as being against change in general. It is as if opponents of the equation 2+2=7 were depicted as being against mathematics. Such a tactic might, however, be more politically effective than trying to defend the equation on its own merits. ~ Thomas Sowell
British Politics quotes by Thomas Sowell
He stood out because he had a slight British accent and an odd tattoo on his neck. A skull and a flower. ~ Janet Evanovich
British Politics quotes by Janet Evanovich
I doubt very much if a man whose main literary interests were in works by Mr. Zane Grey, admirable as they may be, is particularly equipped to be the chief executive of this country, particularly where Indian Affairs are concerned. ~ Dean Acheson
British Politics quotes by Dean Acheson
Growing up in Jamaica, the Pentecostal church wasn't that fiery thing you might think. It was very British, very proper. Hymns. No dancing. Very quiet. Very fundamental. ~ Grace Jones
British Politics quotes by Grace Jones
I'm not ready to give you a clear answer on whether electoral politics holds any particular hope for progressives. It would mean that nothing I did ever mattered. ~ Tom Hayden
British Politics quotes by Tom Hayden
I've never noticed that being nonsensical keeps things from happening. Don't you ever read about politics? ~ Murray Leinster
British Politics quotes by Murray Leinster
If a better politics were in the direct and obvious interest of the old, wealthy and powerful, it would already exist. ~ Danny Dorling
British Politics quotes by Danny Dorling
Recognising that an ostentatious cult of heroism and state service served an important propaganda function for the British elite does not mean, of course, that we should dismiss it as artificial or insincere. All aristocracies have a strong military tradition, and for many British patricians the protracted warfare of the period was a godsend. It gave them a job, and, more important, a purpose, an opportunity to carry out what they had been trained to do since childhood: ride horses, fire guns, exercise their undoubted physical courage and tell other people what to do. ~ Linda Colley
British Politics quotes by Linda Colley
Bernie gave us something much more important than his candidacy for President; he gave us each other. ~ Kacey Carpenter
British Politics quotes by Kacey Carpenter
he was a man of politics and a man of action. ~ Stephen Hunter
British Politics quotes by Stephen Hunter
Geoff's arm emanated with a solid warmth I longed for after our days aboard S.S.
British-Craphole. ~ Katherine McIntyre
British Politics quotes by Katherine McIntyre
I agree with the British Legion that we have a responsibility to support our troops and support their families, particularly when we are asking people to do very difficult and dangerous things for our security. ~ Des Browne
British Politics quotes by Des Browne
there is no place of politics in education. The moment you let politics invade your education system, you inadvertently welcome chaos into the future of young India. Educational institutions have nothing to do with political propagandas. So, open your eyes, and throw any kind of political agenda out of your institutions. ~ Abhijit Naskar
British Politics quotes by Abhijit Naskar
It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion. ~ Joseph Goebbels
British Politics quotes by Joseph Goebbels
I had to choose between American and British actors, and it didn't take me more than a second to decide: Russians are Europeans and should be played by other Europeans. ~ Jean-Jacques Annaud
British Politics quotes by Jean-Jacques Annaud
To me, politics is an extension of what I do in medicine. ~ Tabare Vazquez
British Politics quotes by Tabare Vazquez
I swear, I didn't really go in thinking, 'I'll be the Simon Cowell' of 'Top Chef.' I was just used to being a judge on British food shows where people are much more outspoken and rather rude. That's the culture over here. ~ Toby Young
British Politics quotes by Toby Young
I love the HRC. The initials are great. ~ William J. Clinton
British Politics quotes by William J. Clinton
That which is written without much effort is seldom read with much pleasure. ~ Lee Kuan Yew
British Politics quotes by Lee Kuan Yew
Those against politics are in favor of the politics inflicted upon them. ~ Bertolt Brecht
British Politics quotes by Bertolt Brecht
Could you look again, please?" the woman asked in a clipped, slightly British accent. "It was sent parcel post two weeks ago from Miss Felicity Worthington and addressed to Mrs. Rao, Mrs. Gemma Doyle Rao. ~ Libba Bray
British Politics quotes by Libba Bray
I also believe my home state is cursed by ignorance and poverty and racism, much of it deliberately inculcated to control a vulnerable electorate. And I believe many of the politicians in Louisiana are among the most stomach-churning examples of white trash and venality I have ever known. To me, the fact that large numbers of people find them humorously picaresque is mind numbing, on a level with telling fond tales of one's rapist. ~ James Lee Burke
British Politics quotes by James Lee Burke
Thanks to TV and for the convenience of TV, you can only be one of two kinds of human beings, either a liberal or a conservative. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
British Politics quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
We need to reclaim the word 'feminism'. We need the word 'feminism' back real bad. When statistics come in saying that only 29% of American women would describe themselves as feminist - and only 42% of British women - I used to think, What do you think feminism IS, ladies? What part of 'liberation for women' is not for you? Is it freedom to vote? The right not to be owned by the man you marry? The campaign for equal pay? 'Vogue' by Madonna? Jeans? Did all that good shit GET ON YOUR NERVES? Or were you just DRUNK AT THE TIME OF THE SURVEY? ~ Caitlin Moran
British Politics quotes by Caitlin Moran
I think if you say that art and politics, or religion and politics, mustn't mix, don't mix, that is itself a political statement. Even if you are writing a 19th-century novel where the money comes from a plantation in the Caribbean and you don't talk about that, that itself is a political thing. ~ Mohsin Hamid
British Politics quotes by Mohsin Hamid
What are the politics of boredom? ~ Malcolm McLaren
British Politics quotes by Malcolm McLaren
Unfortunately, in the world today, we have dogmatic people entering into politics. I don't think the two mix. ~ Ishmael Reed
British Politics quotes by Ishmael Reed
I am a Tory anarchist. I should like everyone to go about doing just as he pleased - short of altering any of the things to which I have grown accustomed. ~ Max Beerbohm
British Politics quotes by Max Beerbohm
The basic distortions in the media are not innocent errors, for they are not random; rather they move in the same overall direction again and again, favoring management over labor, corporatism over anti-corporatism, the affluent over the poor, private enterprise over socialism, Whites over Blacks, males over females, officialdom over protesters, conventional politics over dissidence, anticommunism and arms-race militarism over disarmament, national chauvinism over internationalism, US dominance of the Third World over revolutionary or populist nationalist change. The press does many things and serves many functions but its major role, its irreducible responsibility, is to continually recreate a view of reality supportive of existing social and economic class power. ~ Michael Parenti
British Politics quotes by Michael Parenti
Politics was at once clinical and human, driven by principles and passions that he (the leader) had to master and harness for the good of the whole. ~ Jon Meacham
