Throughout the history of the Internet, most of the innovation has come as a by-product of efforts to facilitate communication within social groups of various kinds (academics, bloggers, peer-to-peer file sharing), rather than as the result of profit-oriented investment. Rather than taking the lead, the business and government sectors have adopted innovations developed in Internet communities, and realised significant productivity gains as a result. ~ John Quiggin
Bloggers quotes by John Quiggin
Even the financial disclosure statements that political bloggers were required to post hadn't stemmed the suspicion that people's opinions weren't really their own. "Who's paying you?" was a retort that might follow any bout of enthusiasm, along with laughter - who would let themselves be bought? ~ Jennifer Egan
Bloggers quotes by Jennifer Egan
I think reading is sexy." Daemon smiled at himself.
My brows inched up my forehead. "Do you now?"
"Oh, yes, and you know what else I think is sexy?" he leaned forward so his entire face filled the picture and nodded his head toward me. "Bloggers like this. Hot." Rolling my eyes, I smacked his arm. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Bloggers quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Twitter, Facebook, Google + are the trifecta of marketing for authors (and bloggers). ~ Guy Kawasaki
Bloggers quotes by Guy Kawasaki
Today's internet bloggers and television's talking heads don't have that [a partnership]. No safety net. No brakes. No one there to question, doubt or inspire. No editor. [Carl Bernstein's A reporter's assessment] ~ Bob Woodward
Bloggers quotes by Bob Woodward
I operate under the theory that all publicity is good publicity, and then, if that theory doesn't work, you just say that any newspaper article ends up on the bottom of the parrot cage. But, of course, you can't line a parrot cage with Internet bloggers, can you? ~ Joel Edgerton
Bloggers quotes by Joel Edgerton
The bloggers and online donors represent an important resource for the party, but they are not representative of the majority you need to win elections, ~ Steve Elmendorf
Bloggers quotes by Steve Elmendorf
I was in need of some community," she said. "I think that's the reason so many women bloggers start blogging, just to find someone out there who knows what they're going through. ~ Emily Matchar
Bloggers quotes by Emily Matchar
That's the good thing about hanging with bloggers. Most of them are kind of fucked up in the same way you are. ~ Jenny Lawson
Bloggers quotes by Jenny Lawson
The queen of aggregation is, of course, Arianna Huffington, who has discovered that if you take celebrity gossip, adorable kitten videos, posts from unpaid bloggers and news reports from other publications, array them on your Web site and add a left-wing soundtrack, millions of people will come. ~ Bill Keller
Bloggers quotes by Bill Keller
The more competition and the more voices - that's why I love bloggers and anything else the Internet can produce in the way of new news voices. ~ Leonard Downie, Jr.
Bloggers quotes by Leonard Downie, Jr.
Who are these bloggers? They're not trained editors at Vogue magazine. There are bloggers writing recipes that aren't tested that aren't necessarily very good, or are copies of what really good editors have created and done. Bloggers create a kind of a popularity but they are not the experts. We have to understand that. ~ Martha Stewart
Bloggers quotes by Martha Stewart
Bloggers around the world are discovering that it's cheaper and faster and more effective to build their own media channels than it is to waste time arguing with the old ones. ~ Seth Godin
Bloggers quotes by Seth Godin
The idea was to anger the drama kids, not hurt any of them. I'm not a deer hunter. I decided to prey on their most basic, cherished fear. "This play sucks! No one likes it. Not even the junior high bloggers will review this lame excuse for a Moliere," I yelled, and chucked tomatillos at the stager, over, under, and past the ducking, traumatized performers in French aristocrat costumes. ~ Sarah Skilton
Bloggers quotes by Sarah Skilton
Left-leaning bloggers have had a tremendous impact on the Democratic Party. ~ Jose Antonio Vargas
Bloggers quotes by Jose Antonio Vargas
When we're always connected, we allow others-colleagu es and celebrities, close friends and distant acquaintances, bloggers and news aggregators-set our life's agenda. Our ability to prioritize is paralyzed by the sheer volume of requests, demands, opportunities, and information. ~ George Barna
Bloggers quotes by George Barna
There is such a polarized discussion of economics among people like analysts, columnists, bloggers; often, they end up just saying that views other than their own should not even be discussed. I find that frustrating. There is no intellectual progress without considering lots and lots of different views. ~ Adam Davidson
Bloggers quotes by Adam Davidson
Everything written, if it has anything in it, will offend someone, and if the mere taking of offence was to amount to a licence to kill the offender, well the world would be sadly underpopulated of novelists, columnists, bloggers, and the writers of editorials. ~ Rex Murphy
Bloggers quotes by Rex Murphy
I'm noticing a lot of the big bloggers who've posted about politics are experiencing an ugly backlash. Readers are angry because they went to the bloggers' sites for a laugh, not a lecture. Again, it's a question of being appropriate for the audience. ~ Jen Lancaster
Bloggers quotes by Jen Lancaster
Women scare enough, but bloggers can be even more frightening to deal with. Most bloggers are emotionally unstable and are often awkward in social situations, which is why so many of us turned to blogging in the first place. Also, they are always looking for something to write about, so if you fuck something up it will be blogged, Facebooked, and retweeted until your death. ~ Jenny Lawson
Bloggers quotes by Jenny Lawson
In two days he saw Rupert Murdoch, his son James, and the management of their Wall Street Journal; Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and the top executives at the New York Times; and executives at Time, Fortune, and other Time Inc. magazines. "I would love to help quality journalism," he later said. "We can't depend on bloggers for our news. ~ Walter Isaacson
Bloggers quotes by Walter Isaacson
Oh, you know what bloggers are like, they write and write and write. I don't know why, because they're not being paid. ~ Jon Ronson
Bloggers quotes by Jon Ronson
Speaking to bloggers on a daily basis. ~ Nan Aron
Bloggers quotes by Nan Aron
I think the biggest pushback comes from people who perceive me to be a threat. Having bloggers who are dedicated to making up false information about you, having anonymous people write nasty emails and letters, having organizations file legal requests for your work-related emails, and all the other things that happen can be very depressing and discouraging. ~ Katharine Hayhoe
Bloggers quotes by Katharine Hayhoe
I'm learning a lot about the culture of weight loss. I didn't know there were bloggers out there who were proud to be fat. ~ Mick Cornett
Bloggers quotes by Mick Cornett
What you do after you create your content is what truly counts. ~ Gary Vaynerchuk
Bloggers quotes by Gary Vaynerchuk
I haven't heard of any cases of anti-American blog posts being censored or bloggers encountering consequences for anti-American speech on the web in China. ~ Rebecca MacKinnon
Bloggers quotes by Rebecca MacKinnon
Most bloggers who rise above the clutter are quite often prolific -they work hard, not just writing content but networking, engaging in Social Media and more. ~ Darren Rowse
Bloggers quotes by Darren Rowse
I think the pleasure of completed work is what makes blogging so popular. You have to believe most bloggers have few if any actual readers. The writers are in it for other reasons. Blogging is like work, but without coworkers thwarting you at every turn. All you get is the pleasure of a completed task. ~ Scott Adams
Bloggers quotes by Scott Adams
Stop worrying about the 'dumbing down' of our language by bloggers, tweeters, cableheads and MSM thumbsuckers engaged in a 'race to the bottom' of the page by little minds confined to little words. ~ William Safire
Bloggers quotes by William Safire
Why science? Many people, with the best intentions, like to give parents advice about raising a child, including parents, non-parents, health visitors, friends, celebrities, bloggers and next-door neighbours. Unfortunately, much of this advice can be completely wrong or based on archaic ideas and practices that have since been disproved or debunked. Some of this advice can even be damaging. In addition, some parents say that they advocate using 'common sense' or 'intuition' in raising their children, but what do those things mean? How is intuition classified, when it differs so greatly from one person to another? Some people do the 'common sense' thing only to find out it was wrong later in life, which is why it is altogether better to be guided by the latest scientific research. In order to learn how to filter the good advice from the bad, I believe that new parents need science-based evidence in their corner. You'll find it in this book. ~ Zion Lights
Bloggers quotes by Zion Lights
Bored, anonymous, pathetic bloggers who lie annoy me. ~ Sarah Palin
Bloggers quotes by Sarah Palin
I think blogging, by and large, is basically therapy. And I'm sure, and I know, that there are some terrific bloggers and some legitimate bloggers. But I think, by and large, a huge percentage of people who are blogging are doing it for self-therapy. ~ Mike Barnicle
Bloggers quotes by Mike Barnicle
As a professional journalist who nonetheless champions a 'people's' Internet, I am happy to compete against the thousands of amateur bloggers out there reporting and commenting on the same stories I do. ~ Douglas Rushkoff
Bloggers quotes by Douglas Rushkoff
Bloggers and other flavors of lone wolf are publishing heart-wrenching photo-essays from the front line of the recovery effort. Newspapers and TV networks? They're writing about the temperature of the water in some part (they don't specify which) of some damaged reactor, illustrating it with video screen grabs of machinery they don't understand enough to explain. ~ Tim Bray
Bloggers quotes by Tim Bray
As white authors, bloggers, and readers, we must stop promoting diversity as a business opportunity or a chance to buy ally points with our disposable income. ~ Jennifer Armintrout
Bloggers quotes by Jennifer Armintrout
I know it's dangerous to take on bloggers. They can go after you every day, all day long, and anonymous people can chime in, too. ~ Jerry Saltz
Bloggers quotes by Jerry Saltz
One of my favorite bloggers who can articulate his ideas clearly is Avinash Kaushik. The only problem? His ideas are so awesome his posts are a mile long, but I promise they are worth the time. ~ Chip Heath
Bloggers quotes by Chip Heath
A reckoning is coming on the state of the internet journalism, because right now, the way it's set up, there is so much room for libel to squeak through that you're going to see ... they're going to rewrite the rule book on journalism very soon. They have to, because the bloggers are getting away with so much rumor-mongering about public officials and even private figures because they don't have editors and they don't have fact checkers and they don't have lawyers. There is going to be a price to pay somewhere down the line. ~ Rod Lurie
Bloggers quotes by Rod Lurie
I've been watching 'American Idol' since its debut season in 2002. Back then, America hadn't yet evolved into a gladiatorial cybernation of bloggers, tweeters, and self-ordained voice coaches. ~ Diablo Cody
Bloggers quotes by Diablo Cody
When a guest blogger can't even be bothered sharing their own post on their social networks; they're pretty much admitting 'I don't care about this post, and I don't want to be associated with it'. In the end these guests posts are just another form of spam. ~ George Stevens
Bloggers quotes by George Stevens
I'll let you off your leash, but you have to show some manners. No humping, no pissing on anything man made, and keep the crotch greetings exclusive to your four-legged fury friends. Got it?"

Swarley nods because I've made him part human over the past few months and I'm pretty sure I saw him roll his eyes at me too. Guess I'd better start getting used to sassiness and eye rolling … read that on a parenting blog too.

Note to self. Find more positive bloggers that paint the picture of parenthood with rainbows, fairies, and pixie dust.

"Sydney?"

I turn. "Hey, Dane!"

He bends down to let his dogs off their leashes. "Gosh, I didn't think you'd be back. How was Paris?"

Which part? The view of the ceiling from the couch or the drain from the top of the toilet?

"Great!" Extremely sugarcoated … maybe teetering on an outright lie.

"So how long are you staying?" He rests his hands on his hips.

Dane is adorable. I'm sure grown men don't like to be called adorable; hell, I didn't like it when Lautner said it to me, but Dane is just that. Tall, dark, and admittedly handsome with a boyish grin that makes me want to take him home, bake him cookies, and pour him a tall glass of milk.

"I'm not sure. Trevor and Elizabeth just moved to San Diego and I'm staying at their house until it sells or until I find something else."

He cocks his head to the side. "Yet, they left Swarley ~ Jewel E. Ann
Bloggers quotes by Jewel E. Ann
I don't think that God raised up Internet bloggers to call out wolves - who have an opinion and a website. ~ Perry Noble
Bloggers quotes by Perry Noble
Blogging has helped create an expanded awareness of the creative nonfiction genre, generally. But I suspect many bloggers continue to be unaware that they are (or have the potential to be) "literary" or "artful." ~ Lee Gutkind
Bloggers quotes by Lee Gutkind
Silicon Valley isn't usually where aspiring authors go to kick-start a literary reputation. [ ... ] How'd he do it? By courting bloggers and influential techies like Joi Ito, Stewart Brand, and Craig Newmark demonstrating that if you can get the geek grapevine on your side, you don't need Random House. ~ Daniel Suarez
Bloggers quotes by Daniel Suarez
I ate a lot of candy and engaged in light stalking: I prowled Blythe's Instagram and Twitter, I read her reviews, considered photos of her baked goods and watched from a distance as she got on her soapbox – at one point bragging she was the only person she knew who used her real name and profession online. As my fascination mounted, and my self-loathing deepened, I reminded myself that there are worse things than rabid bloggers (cancer, for instance) and that people suffer greater degradations than becoming writers. But still, I wanted to respond. ~ Kathleen Hale
Bloggers quotes by Kathleen Hale
But since Catt was more realist than fabulist, she understood her actual death at the hands of her killer would be something much slower. It would be a classical feminine death, like a marriage…Raised by meek working-class parents, she despised petty groveling and had no talent for making shit up. She wanted to be a "real" intellectual moving with dizzying freedom between high and low points in the culture. And to a certain extent, she'd succeeded. Catt's semi-name attracted a following among Asberger's boys, girls who'd been hospitalized for mental illness, sex workers, Ivy alumnae on meth, and always, the cutters. With her small self-made fortune, Catt saw herself as Moll Flanders, out-sourcing her visiting professorships and writing commissions to younger artists whose work she believed in. But she'd reached a point lately where the same young people she'd helped were blogging against her, exposing the 'cottage industry' she ran out of her Los Angeles compound facing the Hollywood sign … the same compound these bloggers had lived in rent-free after arriving from Iowa City, Alberta, New Zealand. Loathing all institutions, Catt had become one herself. Even her dentist asked her for money. ~ Chris Kraus
Bloggers quotes by Chris Kraus
I'm fortunate to make any money as a blogger. ~ Mickey Kaus
Bloggers quotes by Mickey Kaus
The least-crowded channel for meeting high profile bloggers is in person. Email is the most difficult, the most crowded ... I'm a top 1,000 blogger, not a top 100 blogger, and I get hundreds of pitches by email every week. Most of them I don't even see because my assistant declines them. ~ Timothy Ferriss
Bloggers quotes by Timothy Ferriss
I think I am about 5 for 500 when it comes to successful ideas vs flops. ~ Jeremy Schoemaker
Bloggers quotes by Jeremy Schoemaker
Dedicated to book lovers and book bloggers everywhere, those large and small. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Bloggers quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My parents always have taught me 'you're good enough'. So, whenever I got bad comments from the judges, or I'd get on the Internet and read what bloggers have written about me, I would get so down, and I would get so sad. The biggest support group was obviously my parents, and I'd call them. And they'd build me up. ~ Carmen Rasmusen
Bloggers quotes by Carmen Rasmusen
Political reporters no longer get to decide what's news. The days when a minister gave briefings to a dozen lobby correspondents, and thereby dictated the next day's headlines, are over. Now, a thousand bloggers decide for themselves what is interesting. If enough of them are tickled then, bingo, you're news. ~ Daniel Hannan
Bloggers quotes by Daniel Hannan
Back in my days as a children's book editor, my superiors caught on to the fact that teenagers were using the Internet to gossip about each other, and thought it might be nifty to develop a series of books about an anonymous high-school blogger who gossips about her classmates. The concept was passed on to me. ~ Cecily Von Ziegesar
Bloggers quotes by Cecily Von Ziegesar
Value the quality of your articles over the number of articles you write. I know a lot of bloggers focus on writing as many articles as possible, but I've realized over the years that you cannot sacrifice quality if you wish to build a loyal following on your blog. ~ Jeet Banerjee
Bloggers quotes by Jeet Banerjee
We're proud to offer a wide variety of bloggers from a wide variety of fields. Some are well-known, some are unknown - but all have something interesting to say. And we cover everything from politics, to entertainment, to media, to business, to style, to green, to our upcoming launch of a technology page - it's why we call HuffPost "The Internet Newspaper." ~ Arianna Huffington
Bloggers quotes by Arianna Huffington
If bloggers are to improve our public discourse - helping busy and usually uninformed people make sense of the world - it is necessary to use some sort of standard with which to judge their reliability. Perhaps the answer (strictly advisory) is a body of their peers. Perhaps not. ~ Eric Alterman
Bloggers quotes by Eric Alterman
The link economy encourages bloggers to repeat what "other people are saying" and link to it instead of doing their own reporting and standing behind it. This changes the news from what has happened into what someone said the news is. ~ Ryan Holiday
Bloggers quotes by Ryan Holiday
And against whom is this censorship directed? By way of answer, think back to the big subcultural debates of 2011 – debates about how gritty fantasy isn't really fantasy; how epic fantasy written from the female gaze isn't really fantasy; how women should stop complaining about sexism in comics because clearly, they just hate comics; how trying to incorporate non-Eurocentric settings into fantasy is just political correctness gone wrong and a betrayal of the genre's origins; how anyone who finds the portrayal of women and relationships in YA novels problematic really just wants to hate on the choices of female authors and readers; how aspiring authors and bloggers shouldn't post negative reviews online, because it could hurt their careers; how there's no homophobia in publishing houses, so the lack of gay YA protagonists can only be because the manuscripts that feature them are bad; how there's nothing problematic about lots of pretty dead girls on YA covers; how there's nothing wrong with SF getting called 'dystopia' when it's marketed to teenage girls, because girls don't read SF. Most these issues relate to fear of change in the genre, and to deeper social problems like sexism and racism; but they are also about criticism, and the freedom of readers, bloggers and authors alike to critique SFF and YA novels without a backlash that declares them heretical for doing so.

It's not enough any more to tiptoe around the issues that matter, refusing to name the wor ~ Foz Meadows
Bloggers quotes by Foz Meadows
I'm very much against the anonymity of bloggers and social media. I just hate it and I think it's really cowardly. ~ Ice-T
Bloggers quotes by Ice-T
It's through traveling you make the great journey into yourself, and it's the clarity of extremes in traveling that forces you to meet yourself like you've never met yourself before. ~ Carew Papritz
Bloggers quotes by Carew Papritz
[P]ersonally, I know I'd prefer to read an honest review by someone who has no reason to lie, than a book reviewer who has an employer and a publishing house to keep happy. ~ Catherine Ryan Howard
Bloggers quotes by Catherine Ryan Howard
Most bloggers have no institutional credibility, and so they must build it, by linking transparently, and allowing you to easily double check their work. But more than anything, because linking sources is such an easy thing to do, and the motivations for avoiding links are so dubious, I've detected myself using a new rule of thumb: if you don't link to primary sources, I just don't trust you. ~ Ben Goldacre
Bloggers quotes by Ben Goldacre
We shoppers, you bloggers.
If money talks, you mumblers.
You try it on, then take it off,
Then post a pic on your tumblrs. ~ Pusha T
Bloggers quotes by Pusha T
If editors truly want to improve their byline ratio, they need to stop lamenting the fact that few women journalists send them cold pitches and start taking a hard look at their stable of regular contributors. How many women are on the masthead? How many women columnists or bloggers are on the payroll? This is how real change is going to happen. ~ Ann Friedman
Bloggers quotes by Ann Friedman
Men take what women make and claim it as their own.Men don't love childrenThey kill them in a heartbeat to hurt a woman ~ Jessica Valenti
Bloggers quotes by Jessica Valenti
The Lazysphere - a working definition - is a group of bloggers who I won't name by name, but you can spot them a mile away. Rather than create new ideas or pen thoughtful essays, they simply glom on to the latest news with another "me too" blog post. ~ Steve Rubel
Bloggers quotes by Steve Rubel
The seeds of genius are in many blogs, but bloggers lack the interest in or understanding of the difference between blogging and fully-formed literary efforts. ~ Lee Gutkind
Bloggers quotes by Lee Gutkind
Not only are bloggers suckers for the remarkable, so are the people who read blogs. ~ Seth Godin
Bloggers quotes by Seth Godin
I give this book 5 Stars and highly recommend it to all fiction, nonfiction, and poetry writers, aspiring writers, bloggers or journalists. ~ Sunny
Bloggers quotes by Sunny
I do not know of a Chinese blogger who has gone to jail, but I know several who have had their blogs shut down. I also know some Chinese bloggers who have received threatening phone calls from police warning them to 'be careful.' In some cases, they stopped blogging for a while. ~ Rebecca MacKinnon
Bloggers quotes by Rebecca MacKinnon
No real God should need protection from bloggers and no real prophet should need protection from cartoons. ~ Ali A. Rizvi
Bloggers quotes by Ali A. Rizvi
After simmering years of censorship and repression, the masses finally throng the streets. The chants echoing off the walls to build to a roar from all directions, stoking the courage of the crowds as they march on the center of the capital. Activists inside each column maintain contact with each other via text messages; communications centers receive reports and broadcast them around the city; affinity groups plot the movements of the police via digital mapping. A rebel army of bloggers uploads video footage for all the world to see as the two hosts close for battle. Suddenly, at the moment of truth, the lines go dead. The insurgents look up from the blank screens of their cell phones to see the sun reflecting off the shields of the advancing riot police, who are still guided by close circuits of fully networked technology. The rebels will have to navigate by dead reckoning against a hyper-informed adversary.

All this already happened, years ago, when President Mubarak shut down the communications grid during the Egyptian uprising of 2011. A generation hence, when the same scene recurs, we can imagine the middle-class protesters - the cybourgeoisie - will simply slump forward, blind and deaf and wracked by seizures as the microchips in their cerebra run haywire, and it will be up to the homeless and destitute to guide them to safety. ~ CrimethInc.
Bloggers quotes by CrimethInc.
Most blogs have very low readership - perhaps only the blogger's mother or best friend reads them - but even writing for one person, compared to writing for nobody, seems to be enough to compel millions of people to blog. ~ Dan Ariely
Bloggers quotes by Dan Ariely
Is any blogger out there saying anything - do they deserve First Amendment protection? These are the issues of our times. ~ Lindsey Graham
Bloggers quotes by Lindsey Graham
Copywriters, journalists, mainstream authors, ghostwriters, bloggers and advertising creatives have as much right to think of themselves as good writers as academics, poets, or literary novelists. ~ Sara Sheridan
Bloggers quotes by Sara Sheridan
Be gifted with an honest, ethically wise, keen observation as you detect a pair of deceptive eyes.
~ Angelica Hopes, The F. Trilogy ~ Angelica Hopes
Bloggers quotes by Angelica Hopes
I am certainly not a blogger. Quite a large proportion of them are nuts and extremists - with the honourable exception of the culture secretary. ~ Kenneth Clarke
Bloggers quotes by Kenneth Clarke
A blogger is constantly looking over his shoulder, for fear that he is not being followed. ~ Robert Breault
Bloggers quotes by Robert Breault
If college admissions officers are going to encourage kids to take the same AP math class, why not statistics? Almost every career (whether in business, nonprofits, academics, law, or medicine benefits from proficiency in statistics. Being an informed, responsible citizen requires a sound knowledge of statistics, as politicians, reporters, and bloggers all rely on "data" to justify positions. [p.98] ~ Tony Wagner
Bloggers quotes by Tony Wagner
Everyone has this perception that the bloggers, they say horrible things about you and they hide behind their computers where you can't see them. ~ L'Wren Scott
Bloggers quotes by L'Wren Scott
So forget about blogs and bloggers and blogging and focus on this - the cost and difficulty of publishing absolutely anything, by anyone, into a global medium, just got a whole lot lower. And the effects of that increased pool of potential producers is going to be vast. ~ Clay Shirky
Bloggers quotes by Clay Shirky
Twenty-five percent of search results for the world's top 20 largest brands are links to user generated content and thirty-four percent of bloggers post opinions about products and brands. ~ Erik Qualman
Bloggers quotes by Erik Qualman
Just as we don't spend a lot of time worrying about how all those poets out there are going to monetize their poetry, the same is true for most bloggers. ~ Seth Godin
Bloggers quotes by Seth Godin
There were several packages waiting for me at the post office
and I only barely squealed. They were advanced reader copies
from other bloggers passing them along for review. And I was,
like, whatever. Sure evidence I was coming down with mad cow
disease. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Bloggers quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
That's the great thing about hanging out with bloggers. They already know that you're broken, and most of them are, too, so they just nod and make you go take Xanax and go to bed. They're very supportive. Also they probably wanted me to leave so they could talk about me. ~ Jenny Lawson
Bloggers quotes by Jenny Lawson
A number of bloggers in economics and the financial sector have risen to prominence through the sheer strength of their work. Note it was not their family connections nor ties to Ivy League schools or elite banks, but rather the strength of their research, analysis and writing. ~ Barry Ritholtz
Bloggers quotes by Barry Ritholtz
Bloggers intent on self-expression which renders no service to readers don't get read. ~ Lee Gutkind
Bloggers quotes by Lee Gutkind
I've never once met a successful blogger who questioned the personal value of what she did. ~ Seth Godin
Bloggers quotes by Seth Godin
What are the purposes of modern-day schools? The primary purpose is warehousing -- keeping children off the streets, out of the workplace, and out of the home for most of the day to the benefit of parents, some employers, and the general public. Call it the "jail function" as John Holt put it frankly. There is no attempt to cloak this fact. In a blog post bemoaning the number of days her children have off from school, one blogger's headline read: "November Is the Cruelest Month for Moms".

The second purpose is teaching children how to comply with orders, submit to authority, and fit into our consumerist, capitalist economy. This is not usually acknowledged. Schools, educators, and policymakers are not candidly saying that the objective of schools is to produce compliant students, but that's generally what happens.

The third purpose is ranking and sorting students based on their performance in school. It's an efficient way to determine who should be rewarded for her compliance, or in other words, who should go to the top colleges and universities and later hold positions of power and influence and society. As the eminent linguist Noam Chomsky once put it, "The whole educational and professional training system is a very elaborate filter, which just weeds out people who are too independent, and who think for themselves, and who don't know how to be submissive, and so on -- because they're dysfunctional to the institutions.

The fourth is a distor ~ Nikhil Goyal
