It's not a crime to feel sad, down or depressed. Moving through difficult feelings is an essential part of living life authentically. Though society would have us believe that when we are sad, we need to smack a silly smile on our face and pretend everything is okay. Problems arise when we repress, deny or bury these feelings. We need to know when it's time to seek help and support, to avoid becoming overwhelmed by these types of emotion. Life is a bittersweet symphony, we need to hear every instrument and listen to every note. ~ Jaeda DeWalt
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Jaeda DeWalt
Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life. ~ The Verve
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by The Verve
Oh it's a bitter sweet symphony that's life. ~ The Verve
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by The Verve
How unbearable, for women, is the tenderness which a man can give them without love. For men, how bittersweet this is. ~ Albert Camus
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Albert Camus
For hundreds of years people have talked about artists having inspiration, but often, some persons would say, write us a symphony or write us a song, on commission. The artists would come up with a masterpiece without waiting to have their muse inspire them. ~ Tom Glazer
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Tom Glazer
Happiness. Simple as a glass of chocolate or tortuous as the heart. Bitter. Sweet. Alive. ~ Joanne Harris
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Joanne Harris
For in the immediate world, everything is to be discerned, for him who can discern it, and central and simply, without either dissection into science, or digestion into art, but with the whole of consciousness, seeking to perceive it as it stands: so that the aspect of a street in sunlight can roar in the heart of itself as a symphony, perhaps as no symphony can: and all of consciousness is shifted from the imagined, the revisive, to the effort to perceive simply the cruel radiation of what is. ~ James Agee
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by James Agee
It's always bittersweet when you have a show that you own, that's against you. It's against one of our favorite comedies for NBC. And yes, that's part of the business model. House was on the Fox network for a number of years and was such a great business for the NBC-owned studio. That's part of what we're also trying to build. Hopefully, Mindy will help do that for us. ~ Robert Greenblatt
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Robert Greenblatt
How do you fancy making some dark cherry ganache with me, and we can fill these little yuzu shells with that instead? They can be a temporary special: a macaron de saison." I scrape the offending basil mixture into the bin.
"Whatever you want." Her brightening eyes betray her.
"That's the enthusiasm I was looking for," I reply, smiling. "What shall we call them then? It has to be French."
We surrender to a thoughtful silence. Outside the cicadas are playing their noisy summer symphony. I imagine them boldly serenading one another from old tires, forgotten woodpiles, discarded plastic noodle bowls.
"Something about summer..." she mumbles.
After conferring with my worn, flour-dusted French-English dictionary, we agree on 'Brise d'Ete. ~ Hannah Tunnicliffe
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Hannah Tunnicliffe
From Lee's extensive quotes of Edwards on page 152 we can gather that the reason some reject good thoughts that might order their minds aright is because of a disposition of the heart, or a "taste" for evil. The habit of a person's mind is in accordance with his spiritual appetite, a good man's mind will always suggest and supply good and holy thoughts to connect ideas and information to create a beautiful picture in one's mind of God's orderly universe (Himself at the helm) but the evil man's mind is habitually disorganizing the things of this world or rather dis-integrating them from the knowledge of God, and so Edwards might say that his mind is not a cosmos but a chaos, or a conductor-less cacophony rather than a grand symphony. ~ Erick John Blore
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Erick John Blore
Personally, I'm a mess of conflicting impulses - I'm independent and greedy and I also want to belong and share and be a part of the whole. I doubt that I'm the only one who feels this way. It's the core of monster making, actually. Wanna make a monster? Take the parts of yourself that make you uncomfortable - your weaknesses, bad thoughts, vanities, and hungers - and pretend they're across the room. It's too ugly to be human. It's too ugly to be you. Children are afraid of the dark because they have nothing real to work with. Adults are afraid of themselves.
Oh we're a mess, poor humans, poor flesh - hybrids of angels and animals, dolls with diamonds stuffed inside them. We've been to the moon and we're still fighting over Jerusalem. Let me tell you what I do know: I am more than one thing, and not all of those things are good. The truth is complicated. It's two-toned, multi-vocal, bittersweet. I used to think that if I dug deep enough to discover something sad and ugly, I'd know it was something true. Now I'm trying to dig deeper. ~ Richard Siken
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Richard Siken
Apart from the most obvious cases, like the Oriental Bittersweet vine, escaped from private gardens and smothering the mountains one acre at a time, the most painful proof of man's destruction is not what you can see right in front of you; it's what you will never see again. ~ Wil S. Hylton
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Wil S. Hylton
When I can no longer go forward, even by an inch, I lay my head on the ground and wait to die. I'm too tired to be frightened. Above me is blackness, and all around me is blackness, and the forest sounds are a symphony to sing me out of this world. I am already at my funeral. ~ Lauren Oliver
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Lauren Oliver
I can't stand going out to one more dinner with some Mrs. So-and-So who might leave a million dollars to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra when she dies. ~ Daniel Barenboim
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Daniel Barenboim
The Portuguese and Galician term 'saudade' suggests a profoundly bittersweet nostalgia. ~ Edward Hirsch
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Edward Hirsch
No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it. ~ Halford Luccock
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Halford Luccock
i have laughed
more than daffodils
and cried more than June. ~ Sanober Khan
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Sanober Khan
I had gotten so used to the taste of rain that I forgot what the sun tasted like. Bittersweet. ~ Ana Patrick
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Ana Patrick
Once again love drives me on, that loosener of limbs, bittersweet creature against which nothing can be done. ~ Sappho
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Sappho
I was standing in that place they call "bittersweet." That place that, if you could find it on a map, would be the mountain that sits between happy and sad. And I thought about how when you stand on that mountain, you can almost feel God's hand on your head and you just know, deep down inside, that even if you dno't understand everything that happened to cause those mixed feelings, you still know there was a good reason for them happening. ~ Sandra Kring
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Sandra Kring
I don't want this. I've never wanted this. What is the point in dredging up a past that no longer serves any purpose? A past that's no longer connected to the present or the future. A past that is bittersweet because the love we shared was doomed from the outset - a stolen love that was never meant to be.
Why would I want to relive that? ~ Siobhan Davis
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Siobhan Davis
Why is music capable of inflicting such pain? Because it works on our feelings directly. No ideas interfere with its emotions. This is why "all art aspires to the condition of music." The symphony gives us the thrill of uncertainty
the pleasurable anxiety of searching for a pattern
but without the risks of real life. When we listen to music, we are moved by an abstraction. We feel, but we don't know why. ~ Jonah Lehrer
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Jonah Lehrer
Herman and I have been doing a lot of talking about the cake the past couple of days, and we think we have a good plan for the three tiers. The bottom tier will be the chocolate tier and incorporate the dacquoise component, since that will all provide a good strong structural base. We are doing an homage to the Frango mint, that classic Chicago chocolate that was originally produced at the Marshall Field's department store downtown. We're going to make a deep rich chocolate cake, which will be soaked in fresh-mint simple syrup. The dacquoise will be cocoa based with ground almonds for structure, and will be sandwiched between two layers of a bittersweet chocolate mint ganache, and the whole tier will be enrobed in a mint buttercream.
The second tier is an homage to Margie's Candies, an iconic local ice cream parlor famous for its massive sundaes, especially their banana splits. It will be one layer of vanilla cake and one of banana cake, smeared with a thin layer of caramelized pineapple jam and filled with fresh strawberry mousse. We'll cover it in chocolate ganache and then in sweet cream buttercream that will have chopped Luxardo cherries in it for the maraschino-cherry-on-top element.
The final layer will be a nod to our own neighborhood, pulling from the traditional flavors that make up classical Jewish baking. The cake will be a walnut cake with hints of cinnamon, and we will do a soaking syrup infused with a little bit of sweet sherry. A thin layer of the thi ~ Stacey Ballis
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Stacey Ballis
...The Qur'an cannot be translated. ...The book is here rendered almost literally and every effort has been made to choose befitting language. But the result is not the Glorious Qur'an, that inimitable symphony, the very sounds of which move men to tears and ecstasy. It is only an attempt to present the meaning of the Qur'an-and peradventure something of the charm in English. It can never take the place of the Qur'an in Arabic, nor is it meant to do so... ~ Marmaduke William Pickthall
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Marmaduke William Pickthall
She sat listening to the music. It was a symphony of triumph. The notes flowed up, they spoke of rising and they were the rising itself, they were the essence and the form of upward motion, they seemed to embody every human act and thought that had ascent as its motive. It was a sunburst of sound, breaking out of hiding and spreading open. It had the freedom of release and the tension of purpose. It swept space clean, and left nothing but the joy of an unobstructed effort. Only a faint echo within the sounds spoke of that from which the music had escaped, but spoke in laughing astonishment at the discovery that there was no ugliness or pain, and there never had to be. It was the song of an immense deliverance. ~ Ayn Rand
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Ayn Rand
A man of intellect is like an artist who gives a concert without any help from anyone else, playing on a single instrument
a piano, say, which is a little orchestra in itself. Such a man is a little world in himself; and the effect produced by various instruments together, he produces single-handed, in the unity of his own consciousness. Like the piano, he has no place in a symphony; he is a soloist and performs by himself
in soli tude, it may be; or if in the company with other instruments, only as principal; or for setting the tone, as in singing. ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer
I was classically trained. But more than just the fact that I play violin, there's a lot of classical elements in the way I write, in the way I hear chords. A lot of times, I think of my songs as a symphony made out of electronics rather than instruments. And I love to do orchestral arrangements of my songs after they're done. ~ Lindsey Stirling
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Lindsey Stirling
Her laughter was my favorite symphony. ~ Avijeet Das
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Avijeet Das
When you hear a large symphony orchestra. for instance, in a concert hall, there's a big, sweeping sound that just doesn't get on to a record. ~ Teddy Wilson
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Teddy Wilson
We are each but a quarter note in a grand symphony. ~ Guy Laliberte
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Guy Laliberte
Mathematics is an activity governed by the same rules imposed upon the symphonies of Beethoven, the paintings of DaVinci, and the poetry of Homer. ~ Edward Kasner
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Edward Kasner
Love is just as much suffering as it is sweetness. If it was perfect, that's what they'd all it. They wouldn't call it bittersweet. ~ Nicole Williams
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Nicole Williams
Revolution is only truly revolution if it is a continuous struggle-not just an external struggle against an enemy, but an inner struggle, fighting and subduing all negative aspects which hinder or do damage to the course of the revolution. In this light, revolution is ... a mighty symphony of victory over the enemy and over oneself. ~ Sukarno
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Sukarno
It was as if all of the happiness, all of the magic of this blissful hour had flowed together into these stirring, bittersweet tones and flowed away, becoming temporal and transitory once more. ~ Herman Hesse
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Herman Hesse
The Chicago Symphony is considered the greatest orchestra in the world. ~ Jane Byrne
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Jane Byrne
I prefer to regard a dessert as I would imagine the perfect woman: subtle, a little bittersweet, not blowsy and extrovert. Delicately made up, not highly rouged. Holding back, not exposing everything and, of course, with a flavor that lasts. ~ Graham Kerr
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Graham Kerr
In the cupboard sits my bottle
like a dwarf waiting to scratch out my prayers.
I drink and cough like some idiot at a symphony,
sunlight and maddened birds are everywhere,
the phone rings gamboling its sound
against the odds of the crooked sea;
I drink deeply and evenly now,
I drink to paradise
and death
and the lie of love. ~ Charles Bukowski
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Charles Bukowski
What is the universe? The universe is a symphony of vibrating strings ... we are nothing but melodies. We are nothing but cosmic music played out on vibrating strings and membranes. ~ Michio Kaku
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Michio Kaku
And this famine was as purely a product of oversize brains as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Torture is a good way to get people to talk but a poor method of finding out the truth; people confess whether there is any reality to the confession or not.

-Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad ~ M T Anderson
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by M T Anderson
Only life suffered can transform a symphony from a collection of notes into a message of humanity. ~ Dimitris Mitropoulos
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Dimitris Mitropoulos
It was a placid explosion of orange and red, a great chromatic symphony, a
colour canvas of supernatural proportions, truly a splendid Pacific sunset, quite wasted on me. ~ Yann Martel
Bittersweet Symphony quotes by Yann Martel
A friend gave me a CD of the 'Pathetique' Symphony as a Christmas present. I went home, and I put on the CD expecting to listen to Tchaikovsky. But it started 'ta ta ta taaa.' It was too long for me. I didn't understand it at first, but then I fell in love, in love, in love. ~ Gustavo Dudamel
