It becomes somewhat absurd when some claim that the sight of a Bible or a cross causes them so much psychological distress that it impinges upon their freedom. It is important that we learn to be reasonable and tolerant of everyone's beliefs without going to such extremes that we compromise everyone's rights. ~ Ben Carson
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Ben Carson
It's entirely different waking up in the morning and praying. I read aloud six or seven different devotional books, one of which is the Bible and ask the Lord to be with me that day. ~ Pat Summerall
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Pat Summerall
If we are looking for a soft and malleable God who will stay safely within the boundary limits of conventional religious normalcy in His participation and impact upon our lives, then we are looking for a God who is not the God of the Bible. ~ Barton Jahn
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Barton Jahn
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. To these I commit my day. ~ Max Lucado
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Max Lucado
The failure to read the Holy Bible leads to spiritual depletion. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Like most things in life, there's also a spiritual side to my beard. Look at John the Baptist, one of the most important people in the New Testament. According to Matthew 3:4, "John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey." He baptized Jesus, who was God in human body, despite his appearance being that of a deranged vagrant. When I try to visualize John the Baptist, I see a bearded hunter who had to have some sort of weaponry to function in the wild. I would also assume he dipped the locusts in wild honey before he ate them. Based on what I read in the Bible about John the Baptist, I actually tried to eat a locust once, but it tasted terrible, which gave me the idea that John the Baptist probably dipped them in honey first. Then again, almost everything tastes good with honey. ~ Jase Robertson
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Jase Robertson
In the great Bible passage on spiritual warfare, the word stand appears four times, while the word translated wrestle, battle, fight, or struggle appears only once. In essence, God is asking you to spend the majority of your time in warfare standing! ~ Pedro Okoro
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Pedro Okoro
A good church is a Bible-centered church. Nothing is as important as this
not a large congregation, a witty pastor, or tangible experiences of the Holy Spirit. ~ Alistair Begg
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Alistair Begg
I am glad there are things in the Bible I do not understand. If I could take that book up and read it as I would any other book, I might think I could write a book like that. ~ Dwight L. Moody
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Dwight L. Moody
Slavery and the Bible? First Corinthians 7:21 told slaves to take the opportunity to be free. Let me put forth that God commanded the abolition of slavery. ~ Gina Turner
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Gina Turner
You can worship God by cleaning up baby puke with a thankful heart just as much as if you were to be writing a Bible study for thousands of people. This is because the way you train that child, the way you teach him the ways of Jesus, and the way you display grace and truth firsthand is God displaying his ministry of reconciliation through you. ~ Jefferson Bethke
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Jefferson Bethke
A reporter asked Barth what was the single most important theological discovery he'd made. After stopping to consider his answer carefully, Barth said, "Jesus loves me. This I know, for the Bible tells me so." Indeed, we can never outgrow that one great, majestic, and simple transforming truth. ~ Mark Driscoll
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Mark Driscoll
Make a daily effort to nourish your soul with inspiration from the Bible for personal growth and transformation. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
The Bible is not a book like any other. It makes a claim that God spoke and speaks through its message. It argues that as his creatures, we are accountable to him for what he has revealed. The trustworthiness of Scripture points to its authority as well. Scripture is far more than a history book, as good and trustworthy as that history is. It is a book that calls us to examine our lives and relationship to God. Beyond the fascinating history, it contains vital and life-transforming truths about God and us. ~ Darrell Bock
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Darrell Bock
In schools of theology Negroes are taught the interpretation of the Bible worked out by those who have justified segregation and winked at the economic debasement of the Negro at times almost to the point of starvation. ~ Carter G. Woodson
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Carter G. Woodson
I read the Bible, I speak through issues, I see what I think is hypocrisy in the church and things that are wrong, and I speak to these things. But I could be wrong. ~ Tony Campolo
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Tony Campolo
Christian magazine Sojourners, likes to point out that the Bible contains more than three thousand references to alleviating poverty - enough reason, he thinks, for making this a central moral issue for Christians. ~ Peter Singer
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Peter Singer
I tried to close my ears to the strange worshipful chanting and fix my mind on God, but the Egyptians' idolatry weighed down my weary shoulders and brought tears to my closed eyes. ~ Kristen Reed
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Kristen Reed
So that originally, and Naturally, there is no such thing as Slavery. Joseph was rightfully no more a Slave to his brethren, then they were to him: and they no more Authority to Sell him, than they had to Slay him. [Genesis 37]. ~ Samuel Sewall
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Samuel Sewall
But when the Bible speaks of love, it measures it primarily not by how much you want to receive but by how much you are willing to give of yourself to someone. How much are you willing to lose for the sake of this person? How much of your freedom are you willing to forsake? How much of your precious time, emotion, and resources are you willing to invest in this person? And for that, the marriage vow is not just helpful but it is even a test. ~ Timothy Keller
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Timothy Keller
Spiritually, we have wandered far from the faith of our fathers ... no nation which relegates the Bible to the background, which disregards the love of God and flouts the claims of the Man of Galilee, can long survive. ~ Billy Graham
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Billy Graham
The Bible is God's Word expressed and revealed to his creature, man. ~ Joseph Franklin Rutherford
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Joseph Franklin Rutherford
the impression that many seminarians seem to take from their introductory Bible course, that a given text is a puzzle with only one solution - an impression that often makes biblical study oppressive rather than exhilarating. ~ Ellen F. Davis
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Ellen F. Davis
My efforts have been to not only put the Biblical incident in the original setting, but at the same time give the human touch which makes the whole world kin and which ever remains the same. ~ Henry Ossawa Tanner
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Henry Ossawa Tanner
Tim sends me a fairly ambitious workup in notebook form noting the passages we're going to cover and the chronology of the biblical events, and his commentaries on those things he's read and written. ~ Jerry B. Jenkins
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Jerry B. Jenkins
The Bible speaks of our relationship with God as knowing and being known (Gal 4:9; 1 Cor 13:12). The goal is not just the sharing of ideas but also of ourselves. Communication can lead to two-way personal revelation that produces what can only be called a dynamic experience. J. I. Packer, in his famous work Knowing God, writes: Knowing God is a matter of personal dealing. . . . Knowing God is more than knowing about him; it is a matter of dealing with him as he opens up to you, and being dealt with by him. . . . Friends . . . open their hearts to each other by what they say and do. . . . We must not lose sight of the fact that knowing God is an emotional relationship, as well as an intellectual and volitional one, and could not indeed be a deep relationship between persons if it ~ Timothy Keller
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Timothy Keller
I guess you could say that the Bible is a book that doesn't try to tell you what to think. Instead, it tries to teach you how to think. It stretches your thinking; it challenges you to think bigger and harder than you ever have. ~ Brian D. McLaren
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Brian D. McLaren
My grandparents knew it was important that I understood Christianity and the Bible. But they never took me to church; they sent me to church. ~ Lee Greenwood
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Lee Greenwood
Fear is a scheme that the devil uses to great effect. From my personal study, the words "do not be afraid" or "fear thee not" (depending on the Bible translation) appear over one hundred times in the Bible! The message from God is quite clear: we need not be afraid! ~ Pedro Okoro
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Pedro Okoro
Wine is a much better salve than anything the medical profession has ever prescribed. Even the Bible condones it! ~ Jonathan Evison
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Jonathan Evison
So what is true religion? What does real spirituality look like? First, it is a desire for God himself, for his pleasure and his glory; second, it is concerned with the inner realities of sin and righteousness and only then with consequences and external blessings; third, true spirituality is that which draws from God's Word, hearing and believing and doing according to what God has spoken in the Bible. ~ Richard D. Phillips
Bible Cheerfulness quotes by Richard D. Phillips
If we believe the Bible, we must accept the fact that, in the old days, God and his angels came to humans in their sleep and made themselves known in dreams. ~ Abraham Lincoln
