There's a big difference between being alone and being lonely. And I'm guessing that once you've discovered this distinction you can't go back to solitary confinement without serious emotional repercussions. ~ Tiffanie DeBartolo
Being Lonely quotes by Tiffanie DeBartolo
It's lonely and cold on the top ... lonely and cold. ~ Judy Garland
Being Lonely quotes by Judy Garland
Nobody ever lies about being lonely. ~ Montgomery Clift
Being Lonely quotes by Montgomery Clift
Well…alone is a way to be. It's being by yourself with no one else around. And it can be good or bad. And it can be a choice…. But being lonely is never a choice. It's not about who is with you or not. You can feel lonely when you are alone, but the worst kind of lonely is when you're in a room full of people, but you're still alone. Or you feel like you are anyway. ~ Lynda Mullaly Hunt
Being Lonely quotes by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
You can't work at a relationship; you can't control it. You have to be lucky and go through your life. If you are not lucky you have to be prepared for some degree of suffering. That's why most relationships are very difficult and have some degree of pain. People stay together because of inertia, they don't have the energy. Because they are frightened of being lonely, or they have children. ~ Woody Allen
Being Lonely quotes by Woody Allen
There is none more lonely than the man who loves only himself. ~ Abraham Ibn Ezra
Being Lonely quotes by Abraham Ibn Ezra
What is needed is that you become aware of your aloneness, which is a reality. And it is so beautiful to experience it, to feel it, because it is your freedom from the crowd, from the other. It is your freedom from the fear of being lonely. ~ Osho
Being Lonely quotes by Osho
I've learned that being alone and being lonely are not the same thing. Once I was surrounded by people and lonely for it, but now I'm alone and I've never been so content. ~ Melinda Salisbury
Being Lonely quotes by Melinda Salisbury
Being prime minister is a lonely job ... you cannot lead from the crowd. ~ Margaret Thatcher
Being Lonely quotes by Margaret Thatcher
I wanted to tell him that secrets are lonely and that I was tired of being lonely, but that sounded pathetic even in my head. Instead, I said, "I did it because I'm an asshole. Is that what you want to hear? That I'm an asshole? Well, I am. Big fucking surprise. ~ Marshall Thornton
Being Lonely quotes by Marshall Thornton
When we truly realize that we are all alone is when we need others the most. ~ Ronald Anthony Cross
Being Lonely quotes by Ronald Anthony Cross
He wasn't antisocial - he always had friends, and everybody liked him - but he could go off and entertain himself for hours. He didn't seem to need toys or friends. He could be alone without being lonely. ~ Carine McCandless
Being Lonely quotes by Carine McCandless
If we follow the Buddhist logic that we are becoming part of glory of the universe, one huge consciousness, well, that's just too much togetherness for my taste. I couldn't even do a group art project in second grade. How am I going to share understanding with the rest of the creation? If this proves to be the case, I'm too much of a loner for death, but I'm also scared of being lonely. Where does that leave me? ~ Lena Dunham
Being Lonely quotes by Lena Dunham
It is easy to make friends, but not so easy to keep them in the long term. You cancel a couple of arrangements because you are tired, or it seems too far to travel in traffic, and then next thing you know you have not seen somebody you considered a close friend in over a year. In the small town where I grew up, you saw the same people day in and day out for years. My mother was friends with the girls she went to school with until the day she died. I enjoyed the anonymous freedoms of the city, but now I wondered if I had enjoyed them enough to justify being lonely in my latter years. I missed seeing people every day, meeting old friends and making new ones. ~ Kate Kerrigan
Being Lonely quotes by Kate Kerrigan
Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci, Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln never saw a movie, heard a radio or looked at television. They had 'Loneliness' and knew what to do with it. They were not afraid of being lonely because they knew that was when the creative mood in them would work. ~ Carl Sandburg
Being Lonely quotes by Carl Sandburg
I still think that the greatest suffering is being lonely, feeling unloved, just having no one ... That is the worst disease that any human being can ever experience. ~ Mother Teresa
Being Lonely quotes by Mother Teresa
No, thou art come too late, Empedocles!
And the world hath the day, and must break thee,
Not thou the world. With men thou canst not live,
Their thoughts, their ways, their wishes, are not thine;
And being lonely thou art miserable,
For something has impair'd they spirit's strength,
And dried its self-sufficing font of joy. ~ Matthew Arnold
Being Lonely quotes by Matthew Arnold
Independence is the luxury of all those people who are too confident, and busy, and popular, and attractive to be just plain old lonely. And make no mistake, lonely is absolutely the worst thing to be. Tell someone that you've got a drink problem, or an eating disorder, or your dad died when you were a kid even, and you can almost see their eyes light up with the sheer fascinating drama and pathos of it all, because you've got an issue, something for them to get involved in, to talk about and analyse and discuss and maybe even cure. But tell someone you're lonely and of course they'll seem sympathetic, but look very carefully and you'll see one hand snaking behind their back, groping for the door handle, ready to make a run for it, as if loneliness itself were contagious. Because being lonely is just so banal, so shaming, so plain and dull and ugly. ~ David Nicholls
Being Lonely quotes by David Nicholls
I look for a thematic idea running through my movies and I see that it's the outsider struggling for recognition. I realize that all my life I've been an outsider, and above all, being lonely but never realizing it. ~ Martin Scorsese
Being Lonely quotes by Martin Scorsese
The fact is, there's a difference between being alone and being lonely; I may not of been completely alone in life, but I was definitely lonely. ~ Brent Hartinger
Being Lonely quotes by Brent Hartinger
We suffer from a hallucination, from a false and distorted sensation of our own existence as living organisms. Most of us have the sensation that "I myself" is a separate center of feeling and action, living inside and bounded by the physical body - a center which "confronts" an "external" world of people and things, making contact through the senses with a universe both alien and strange. Everyday figures of speech reflect this illusion. "I came into this world." "You must face reality." "The conquest of nature." This feeling of being lonely and very temporary visitors in the universe is in flat contradiction to everything known about man (and all other living organisms) in the sciences. We do not "come into" this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean "waves," the universe "peoples." Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe. This fact is rarely, if ever, experienced by most individuals. Even those who know it to be true in theory do not sense or feel it, but continue to be aware of themselves as isolated "egos" inside bags of skin. ~ Alan W. Watts
Being Lonely quotes by Alan W. Watts
The Fear of being lonely and alone after a breakup"

If you deal with that fear by finding love in another relationship before finding the love of God, you will find yourself holding to a lesser love that does not cast out fear.
You will still live in fear, because that relationship becomes your security, and you will fear losing that relationship.
Perfect love casts out all fear - 1 John 4:18
There is only one source of perfect love. ~ Elias Tan JS
Being Lonely quotes by Elias Tan JS
Reading means never being bored and never being lonely. My books are my friends; they always provide me with a place to go. ~ Satinder Bhatti
Being Lonely quotes by Satinder Bhatti
Can you be alone without being lonely? Can you spend time by yourself without craving noise or company of other people? Have you discovered the glory of quiet time spent alone, time spent listening to your soul? Solitude brings with it gifts that come from nowhere else. ~ Steve Goodier
Being Lonely quotes by Steve Goodier
Wholeness is not achieved by cutting off a portion of one's being, but by integration of the contraries. ~ C. G. Jung
Being Lonely quotes by C. G. Jung
I have so many different personalities in me and I still feel lonely. ~ Tori Amos
Being Lonely quotes by Tori Amos
I can be alone without being lonely. In fact, those times of solitude are necessary respite for a beleaguered soul, set upon by the pressures of life. I need to take whatever moments I can to just be still. ~ Steve Goodier
Being Lonely quotes by Steve Goodier
It's better being lonely than having friends that secretly hate you. ~ Nina Ardianti
Being Lonely quotes by Nina Ardianti
Writing is an antidote for loneliness. ~ Steven Berkoff
Being Lonely quotes by Steven Berkoff
I once had to say this on a show many years ago, and I truly believe it: Loneliness is a choice. I like to be alone; I'm more comfortable alone. But I do recognize that I take it too far sometimes and so I try to force myself to keep up with being sociable. I just am a bit of a lone ranger; I always have been. But I don't believe that necessarily has to translate to being lonely. You can be lonely in a crowd of a thousand people. I can be in a hotel room on my own and not feel lonely. It all comes down to how comfortable you are with who you are in the silence. ~ Gillian Anderson
Being Lonely quotes by Gillian Anderson
There is a lot of pain in being lonely, but a lot of beauty in being alone. ~ Steven Aitchison
Being Lonely quotes by Steven Aitchison
I like being alone and I think this movie, as much as it is an investigation of connection and people bonding, I also think it's just as much about loneliness. ~ Jason Schwartzman
Being Lonely quotes by Jason Schwartzman
Loneliness is the first thing which God's eye named not good. ~ John Milton
Being Lonely quotes by John Milton
When you move from a different country, it takes a while to make friends. I found myself being lonely a lot at first. In New Delhi, I had all my family. But Portland is one of those cities you can immerse yourself in and feel comfortable. People are so friendly. ~ Kunal Nayyar
Being Lonely quotes by Kunal Nayyar
Being lonely as a kid might well have been necessary for me," I told audiences in my talks. "If I'd had the friends I dreamt of, I'd never have spent the time to become the machine aficionado I am today. Now that I'm grown I can put that in perspective. The world is full of friendly people with no technical skills. The few of us who see into machines like others see into humans are singularly uncommon, and we're valued for that. If we use a technology like TMS to help a lonely teen today, will we be taking that exceptional ability away from him tomorrow? Should we trade friends in seventh grade for designing a working spaceship at age twenty-five? ~ John Elder Robison
Being Lonely quotes by John Elder Robison
My Serinity,
Thee, my serenity, one can not bear,
Seeing thee befuddled, bereaved,
Dimmed like the midnight, secluded, darkened,
Thee, my serenity,
A window to my eyes,
A window to laughter, and peace of mind,
Thee, my serenity, one can not bear,
Seeing thee wail, whine, cry,
Like a gloomy, mourning brume,
Thee, my serenity,
Soared through fervor and delight,
To the crown of heavens, the Almighty Myth,
One can not bear,
Seeing thee prostrate, razed, demure,
Upon the dimmed streets, crawling, for a sight of the lune,
Thee, my birdy in love,
What befall to thy song,
The very chant of my life,
Cut short, stopped, along with all I gasp,
Thee, my serenity, one can not bear,
Seeing thee, caged in thy own night,
Encumbered, through thy own heart,
Lean on my shoulders now,
My beautiful, wonderful Lily,
That thee shall not fear, the sorrow of,
Of being lonely, apart, not having a peer,
As I promise, to my most dear,
The girl to my heart, always near,
Come what may, don't age a year,
That I will be, forever here, ~ Hamidreza Bagheri
Being Lonely quotes by Hamidreza Bagheri
Gatherings and, simultaneously, loneliness are the conditions of a writer's life ~ Jerzy Kosinski
Being Lonely quotes by Jerzy Kosinski
There is no loneliness when you meditate, you feel eternity. How could you ever be lonely? You just feel God's love for you and that sustains you. It's totally clear; it's part of every aspect of your being. ~ Frederick Lenz
Being Lonely quotes by Frederick Lenz
It is much harder to be lonely, when you have for a while stopped being lonely. I was used to having only myself, cold and hard as that is; I could live with it. And now I wait, for a voice, a face, a body, that is not going to be here, is not mine, does not in any case wait as I do, nor share this homesickness. […] How to explain that I taught myself to be tough and indifferent, because it mattered too much and learned not even to weep in my mind not to notice. ~ Martha Gellhorn
Being Lonely quotes by Martha Gellhorn
The thing is, being lonely is like walking in the cold without a coat. It's uncomfortable, but eventually you go numb. Once you get used to not being lonely, though, the shock of going back is like having your down comforter yanked off at six o'clock on a Minnesota December morning. ~ Maggie Hall
Being Lonely quotes by Maggie Hall
I present the thing we're going to do as a simple starting point. They all know it's an art piece and that it's all going to be recorded. And I have never had an experience where one of these men tried to take advantage of the situation. If they were guilty of anything it was of being lonely. It was never that they were violent or dangerous. ~ Laurel Nakadate
Being Lonely quotes by Laurel Nakadate
And I knew in my bones that Emily Dickinson wouldn't have written even one poem if she'd had two howling babies, a husband bent on jamming another one into her, a house to run, a garden to tend, three cows to milk, twenty chickens to feed, and four hired hands to cook for. I knew then why they didn't marry. Emily and Jane and Louisa. I knew and it scared me. I also knew what being lonely was and I didn't want to be lonely my whole life. I didn't want to give up on my words. I didn't want to choose one over the other. Mark Twain didn't have to. Charles Dickens didn't. ~ Jennifer Donnelly
Being Lonely quotes by Jennifer Donnelly
I think that part of being human is being alone, and being lonely. I think one of the stresses on a lot of our friendships is that we require the people we love to take away that loneliness. and they really can't. And so, when we still feel lonely, even in the company of people we love, we become angry with them because they don't do what we think they're supposed to. Which is really something that they can't do for us. ~ Rich Mullins
Being Lonely quotes by Rich Mullins
One can be alone without being lonely. And lonely without being alone. (Rosemary) ~ Lisa Kleypas
Being Lonely quotes by Lisa Kleypas
Nothing makes us more vulnerable than loneliness except greed. ~ Thomas Harris
Being Lonely quotes by Thomas Harris
Being alone does not mean you are lonely, and being lonely does not mean you are alone. ~ John Spence
Being Lonely quotes by John Spence
This isn't a story of great romance or of true love. It's simply a story of being lonely and how comforting it is to be called beautiful. ~ T.E. Carter
Being Lonely quotes by T.E. Carter
To know you will be lonely is not the same as being lonely. ~ Peter Carey
Being Lonely quotes by Peter Carey
The thing that makes you exceptional, if you are at all, is inevitably that which must also make you lonely. ~ Lorraine Hansberry
Being Lonely quotes by Lorraine Hansberry
I'm perpetually single. Being alone is not the same as being lonely. I like to do things that glorify being alone. I buy a candle that smells pretty, turn down the lights, and make a playlist of low-key songs. If you don't act like you've been hit by the plague when you're alone on a Friday night, and just see it as a chance to have fun by yourself, it's not a bad day. ~ Taylor Swift
Being Lonely quotes by Taylor Swift
I hated Valentine's Day even before I was aware of my Duff status. Honestly, I didn't even understand why it was a holiday. Really, it was just an excuse for girls to whine about being lonely and for guys to worm their way into getting laid. I found it materialistic, indulgent, and, with all of the chocolate, completely unhealthy. ~ Kody Keplinger
Being Lonely quotes by Kody Keplinger
Being a loner doesn't make you lonely, but being lonely can make a loner ~ Eiro Silvigne
Being Lonely quotes by Eiro Silvigne
You have to get very comfortable with the idea of being lonely. For all of human history, we've always run away from being lonely and now there are even more distractions. But that's the thing - if you're going to make the decision to rebel against your tribe, you're going to get very lonely. ~ Sherman Alexie
Being Lonely quotes by Sherman Alexie
I don't remember a single monster before I met you.' he'd told Amphibian. 'Now they seem to be all over the place.'
'You mean there wasn't anything you were afraid of?' the Amphibian had asked him.
'lots.'
'What did they look like?'
It was a funny question.
'They didn't look like anything. They were ideas,' Tom told him. 'Like not being able to pay rent, or being lonely.'
'That's the most terrifying thing I've ever heard.' the Amphibian replied. ~ Andrew Kaufman
Being Lonely quotes by Andrew Kaufman
Why is there no opposite word of loneliness? Could it be because people, until they die, have no moments of not being lonely? ~ Kim Namjoon
Being Lonely quotes by Kim Namjoon
If you want to be happy, learn to be alone without being lonely. Learn that being alone does not mean being unhappy. The world is full of plenty of interesting and enjoyable things to do and people who can enrich your life. ~ Michael Josephson
Being Lonely quotes by Michael Josephson
And being alone and being lonely were two different things but they felt exactly the same: they felt horrible. ~ Sarra Manning
Being Lonely quotes by Sarra Manning
I'm never getting too lonely because it's the kind of disease where you might sit in front of the TV with three bags of biscuits, rather than communicate with the world. ~ Geri Halliwell
Being Lonely quotes by Geri Halliwell
He returned my smile with a half grin. So what do you blog about? Knitting? Puzzles? Being lonely? ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Being Lonely quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Being Lonely quotes by Liv Ullmann
When I hear modern people complain of being lonely then I know what has happened. They have lost the cosmos. ~ D.H. Lawrence
Being Lonely quotes by D.H. Lawrence
The most reliable predictor of not being lonely is the amount of contact with women. Time spent with men doesn't make a difference. ~ Gretchen Rubin
Being Lonely quotes by Gretchen Rubin
The principal contributor to loneliness in this country is television. What happens is that the family 'gets together' alone. ~ Ashley Montagu
Being Lonely quotes by Ashley Montagu
But you see, that's the gilded prison of fashion. We're riding in private jets, and meantime I was so incredibly, painfully sad and lonely. ~ Janice Dickinson
Being Lonely quotes by Janice Dickinson
Being is the great explainer. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Being Lonely quotes by Henry David Thoreau
I'm so tired of being lonely, she thought. In so tired of never going out, of never being with a boy,off never having a boy care about me. ~ R.L. Stine
Being Lonely quotes by R.L. Stine
I would advise you not to focus on how to stop being lonely, but on how to start feeling understood. Less group time, more one-on-ones, more confessionals, more secrets over wine, more exploration and honesty and vulnerability toward what you want. More moments being you, fewer acting like the you that you believe people expect. ~ Kelton Wright
Being Lonely quotes by Kelton Wright
Why don't you stay? I'm down on my knees. I'm so tired of being lonely. Don't I give you what you need? ~ SugarLand
Being Lonely quotes by SugarLand
Being lonely does not mean that we are abnormal, love-starved, oversexed, or alienated. Perhaps all it means is that we are incurably human and sensitive to the fact that God made us for an ecstatic togetherness in a body with divine love and with all other persons of sincere will. ~ Ronald Rolheiser
Being Lonely quotes by Ronald Rolheiser
It's a terrible feeling being lonely. ~ Rita Ora
Being Lonely quotes by Rita Ora

The trouble is not really in being alone, it's being lonely. One can be lonely in the midst of a crowd, don't you think? ~ Christine Feehan
Being Lonely quotes by Christine Feehan
It's because she doesn't love being lonely. When a girl loses her virginity, though, it may hurt, but it's real. It might be the realest, most private thing you could ever see in another person. You wonder who she'll be in that moment, when you finally get past all the pretend. ~ Joe Hill
Being Lonely quotes by Joe Hill
The prospect of being lonely but right - dedicating your life to something that no one else believes in - is already hard. The prospect of being lonely and wrong can be unbearable. ~ Peter Thiel
Being Lonely quotes by Peter Thiel
I think acting is really fully adapting to your surroundings, to your emotions, to the people that you're working with, to being tired, to wanting to go home, to being lonely, to being happy. I mean, it's adapting. For me, it is anyway. And trusting. Adapting and trusting. That's my format right there. ~ Charlize Theron
Being Lonely quotes by Charlize Theron
Hollywood is loneliness beside the swimming pool. ~ Liv Ullmann
Being Lonely quotes by Liv Ullmann
She didn't want to have anything to do with the party. She was tired of feeling like she didn't fit in, but she didn't want to go home, either, because she was a tired of being lonely and she was a little drunk. ~ Candace Bushnell
Being Lonely quotes by Candace Bushnell
So many years of being lonely and discounted, no one ever truly seeing me, the person that I really am. The Gabriella I so desperately wanted to be. Yet somehow he broke through the walls and barriers and penetrated my frail, dejected heart. He loves me for all that I am and what I will become, even though it scares us both to death. He accepts the darkest parts of me and doesn't try to change me, in all my shattered complexity. Meeting him has given this facade of my life new meaning. He's given me purpose, strength. He's given me love. Dorian has given me everything and, in turn, is everything to me. Designed by the Divine Power especially for me. ~ S.L. Jennings
Being Lonely quotes by S.L. Jennings
Man ordinarily lives in loneliness. To avoid loneliness, he creates all kinds of relationships, friendships, organizations, political parties, religions and what not. But the basic thing is that he is very much afraid of being lonely. Loneliness is a black hole, a darkness, a frightening negative state almost like death … as if you are being swallowed by death itself. To avoid it, you run out and fall into anybody, just to hold somebody's hand, to feel that you are not lonely… Nothing hurts more than loneliness.
But the trouble is, any relationship that arises out of the fear of being lonely is not going to be a blissful experience, because the other is also joining you out of fear. You both call it love. You are both deceiving yourself and the other. It is simply fear, and fear can never be the source of love. Only those who love are absolutely fearless; only those who love are able to be alone, joyously, whose need for the other has disappeared, who are sufficient unto themselves…

The day you decide that all these efforts are failures, that your loneliness has remained untouched by all your efforts, that is a great moment of understanding. Then only one thing remains: to see whether loneliness is such a thing that you should be afraid of, or if it is just your nature. Then rather than running out and away, you close your eyes and go in. Suddenly the night is over, and a new dawn … The loneliness transforms into aloneness.

Aloneness is your nature. ~ Osho
Being Lonely quotes by Osho
Is Etienene okay?"
"Haven't seen him.He went to Ellie's last night."
Just when I thought I couldn't feel any worse.I twist the corners of my pillow. "Did I,uh,say anything weird to him last night?"
"Apart from acting like a jealous girlfriend and saying you never wanted to speak to him again? No. Nothing weird at all." I moan as she recounts the night for me blow by blow. "Listen," she says when she finishes, "what's the deal with you two?""
"What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean. You two are inseparable."
"Except when he's with his girlfriend."
"Right.So what's the deal?"
I groan again. "I don't know."
"Have you guys...you know...done anything?"
"No!"
"But you like him.And he likes you, too."
I stop choking my pillow. "You think?"
"Please. The boy gets a boner every time you walk in the room."
My eyes pop back open. Does she mean that figuratively or has she actually seen something? No. Focus, Anna. "So why-"
"Why is he still with Ellie? He told you last night. He's lonely, or at least he's scared of being lonely. Josh says with all of this stuff with his mom, he's been too freaked out to change anything else in his life."
So Meredith was right. Etienne is afraid of change. Why haven't I talked about this with Rashmi before? It seems obvious now.Of course she has inside information, because Etienne talks to Josh, and Josh talks to Rashmi.
"You really think he likes me?" I can't help it.
~ Stephanie Perkins
Being Lonely quotes by Stephanie Perkins
It's no fun being lonely. ~ Maurice Sendak
Being Lonely quotes by Maurice Sendak
What are you thinking?" he asks.
I know Gage hates it when I cry - he is completely undone by the sight of tears - so I blink hard against the sting. "I'm thinking how thankful I am for everything," I say, "even the bad stuff. Every sleepless night, every second of being lonely, every time the car broke down, every wad of gum on my shoe, every late bill and losing lottery ticket and bruise and broken dish and piece of burnt toast."
His voice is soft. "Why, darlin'?"
"Because it all led me here to you. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Being Lonely quotes by Lisa Kleypas
That process by which you become a writer is a pretty lonely one. We don't have a group apprenticeship like a violinist might training for an orchestra. ~ Anne Rice
Being Lonely quotes by Anne Rice
There's a difference between being a comic and a comedian. A comic is a guy who says funny things, and a comedian is a guy who says things funny, and he has a style and point of view that will last much longer. ~ Milton Berle
Being Lonely quotes by Milton Berle
But it never worked that way, and the sex just made her lonelier. I understood that, as it had made me lonelier too. I could never remember being lonely, certainly not in this way, until I had seen the edge of the ways you could be with another person, which brought up all the myriad ways that person could never be there for you. ~ Ann Patchett
Being Lonely quotes by Ann Patchett
I like the idea of being alone. I like the idea of often being alone in all aspects of my life. I like to feel lonely. I like to need things. ~ Robert Plant
Being Lonely quotes by Robert Plant
... I found myself reveling in the aloneness instead of being lonely. ~ Stephenie Meyer
Being Lonely quotes by Stephenie Meyer
A child blind from birth doesn't even know he's blind until someone tells him. Even then he has only the most academic idea of what blindness is; only the formerly sighted have a real grip on the thing. Ben Hanscom had no sense of being lonely because he had never been anything but. If the condition had been new, or more localized, he might have understood, but loneliness both encompassed his life and overreached it. ~ Stephen King
Being Lonely quotes by Stephen King
Being alone," I snapped, without meaning to be intentionally rude. I was simply being truthful. "Being alone," she said, nodding. I could see that she was not put off by my bristling reply. "There's a lot to be said for being alone. But you and I know, don't we, Flavia, that being alone and being lonely are not at all the same thing?" I brightened a bit. Here was someone who seemed at least to have thought through some of the same things I had. ~ Alan Bradley
Being Lonely quotes by Alan Bradley
There were times when I had great times with my brothers, pillow fights and things, but I was, used to always cry from loneliness. ~ Michael Jackson
Being Lonely quotes by Michael Jackson
Loneliness is about the scariest thing out there. ~ Joss Whedon
Being Lonely quotes by Joss Whedon
You're great but you're not there when I go to bed at night or get up in the morning. You don't make me a cup of tea after a hard day at work, or rub my back in the bath. I'm sick of being lonely. Is that so wrong? ~ Eleanor Prescott
Being Lonely quotes by Eleanor Prescott
Being lonely because of Allah is another kind of a beauty ~ Felix Siauw
Being Lonely quotes by Felix Siauw
Being powerful is not contingent upon worldly possessions. Being powerful is not arrogance. Being powerful is a state of mind. ~ Naide P Obiang
Being Lonely quotes by Naide P Obiang
And the good news, the really good news about all of this is not just that failure is not the end of us. It is that failure is the beginning of us. It is our starting place. It humbles us in the best kind of way, helps us to see our tiny little place in the giant, cosmic, story being written, and in turn connects us to our Creator. It is from this place of connection that the best version of ourselves, the most alive and true and gracious version of ourselves shows up, and we're able to start living in freedom and grace the story we've been wanting to live all along. ~ Allison Vesterfelt
Being Lonely quotes by Allison Vesterfelt
In defense of games, I want to point out that the writing in plays, including everything by August Strindberg and The Lion King, is 100% pure crap. So we're doing better than they are even though they have the benefit of mostly not being about space marines. ~ Erik Wolpaw
Being Lonely quotes by Erik Wolpaw
Envy makes people lonely, and brings them great suffering. It is horrible stuff to have in our flesh, and it is a sin we need to take deadly seriously. ~ Esther Smith
Being Lonely quotes by Esther Smith
Early in the novel that Tereza clutched under her arm when she went to visit Tomas, Anna meets Vronsky in curious circumstances: they are at the railway station when someone is run over by a train. At the end of the novel, Anna throws herself under a train. This symmetrical composition - the same motif appears at the beginning and at the end - may seem quite "novelistic" to you, and I am willing to agree, but only on condition that you refrain from reading such notions as "fictive," "fabricated," and "untrue to life" into the word "novelistic." Because human lives are composed in precisely such a fashion.

They are composed like music. Guided by his sense of beauty, an individual transforms a fortuitous occurrence (Beethoven's music, death under a train) into a motif, which then assumes a permanent place in the composition of the individual's life. Anna could have chosen another way to take her life. But the motif of death and the railway station, unforgettably bound to the birth of love, enticed her in her hour of despair with its dark beauty. Without realizing it, the individual composes his life according to the laws of beauty even in times of greatest distress.

It is wrong, then, to chide the novel for being fascinated by mysterious coincidences (like the meeting of Anna, Vronsky, the railway station, and death or the meeting of Beethoven, Tomas, Tereza, and the cognac), but it is right to chide man for being blind to such coincidences in his daily li ~ Milan Kundera
