The beginning of the end can feel a lot like the middle when you are living in it. ~ Karen Russell
Beginning Of The End quotes by Karen Russell
The Iraq War marked the beginning of the end of network news coverage. Viewers saw the juxtaposition of the embedded correspondents reporting the war as it was actually unfolding and the jaundiced, biased, negative coverage of these same events in the network newsrooms. ~ Dick Morris
Beginning Of The End quotes by Dick Morris
Frustration is the beginning of the end of pretending. ~ Ralph Harris
Beginning Of The End quotes by Ralph Harris
The work of the Spirit is the bringing to be of the vision of God ... the capacitating of persons to 'see visions' and 'dream dreams' ... The birth of the Church is the beginning of the End ... The Kingdom of God as the miracle of ocular newness when 'the blind see' makes its impact on history in the creation of a visionary community . [[The tongues were]] the language of the world to come ... Therefore in this birth of the Church, the risen and ascended Lord takes to himself a Body on earth with eyes opened by the Spirit to see the future. ~ Gabriel Fackre
Beginning Of The End quotes by Gabriel Fackre
for those who come so far. Some call this island the World's End, for though you can sail further, this is the beginning of the end. ~ C.S. Lewis
Beginning Of The End quotes by C.S. Lewis
I'm convinced that frats are the beginning of the end for most of the people who end up running the world. It teaches them to give up individuality, independence, and even their paper for acceptance. ~ Eddie Huang
Beginning Of The End quotes by Eddie Huang
The Innocent Mage is come , and we stand at the beginning of the end of everything ~ Karen Miller
Beginning Of The End quotes by Karen Miller
In the spring, during the Festival of Flora, when Rome was crowded with visitors from all over Italy, Clodius's mob found itself for once outnumbered by ordinary citizens who despised their bullying tactics. Clodius himself was actually jeered at the theatre. Unused to anything other than adulation from the people, according to Atticus he looked around him in astonishment at the slow handclapping, taunts, whistles and obscene gestures, and realised - almost too late - that he was in danger of being lynched. He retreated hastily, and that was the beginning of the end of his domination, for the Senate now recognised how he could be beaten: by appealing over the heads of the ~ Robert Harris
Beginning Of The End quotes by Robert Harris
The first day you're a leader is the beginning of the end of your political career. ~ Jenny Shipley
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jenny Shipley
Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end.
But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. ~ Winston S. Churchill
Beginning Of The End quotes by Winston S. Churchill
That's great. Tell me about it. I hate my life. I'm at the point where I want to hear about other people's lives. it's like switching from fiction to biography. The beginning of the end. ~ Don DeLillo
Beginning Of The End quotes by Don DeLillo
This is what the beginning of the end of the world will look like ~ Guillermo Del Toro
Beginning Of The End quotes by Guillermo Del Toro
Although champagne was served, the mood was curiously subdued. After this reunion, they would probably never meet together as a class again - at least not in such numbers. They would spend the next decades reading obituaries of the men who had started out in 1954 as rivals and today were leaving Harvard as brothers. This was the beginning of the end. They had met once more and just had time enough to learn that they liked one another. And to say goodbye. ~ Erich Segal
Beginning Of The End quotes by Erich Segal
The meanings of life aren't inherited. What is inherited is the mandate to make meanings of life by how we live. The endings of life give life's meanings a chance to show. The beginning of the end of our order, our way, is now in view. This isn't punishment, any more than dying is a punishment for being born. ~ Stephen Jenkinson
Beginning Of The End quotes by Stephen Jenkinson
The fear had precedent. Toward the end of the Civil War, having witnessed the effectiveness of the Union's 'colored troops,' a flailing Confederacy began considering an attempt to recruit blacks into its army. But in the nineteenth century, the idea of the soldier was heavily entwined with the notion of masculinity and citizenship. How could an army constituted to defend slavery, with all of its assumptions about black inferiority, turn around and declare that blacks were worthy of being invited into Confederate ranks? As it happened, they could not. 'The day you make a soldier of them is the beginning of the end of our revolution,' observed Georgia politician Howell Cobb. 'And if slaves seem good soldiers, then our whole theory of slavery is wrong.' There could be no win for white supremacy here. If blacks proved to be the cowards that 'the whole theory of slavery' painted them as, the battle would be lost. But much worse, should they fight effectively--and prove themselves capable of 'good Negro government'--then the larger war could never be won. ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates
Beginning Of The End quotes by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Marketers are making retirement respectable. Instead of being the beginning of the end, it sounds like Nirvana-do what you want without any responsibilities. The boomers think that they're 16. Marketers try to keep the charade going. Retirement will look so good, others are going to be jealous. ~ Jerry Della Femina
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jerry Della Femina
Should one point out that from ancient times decline in courage has been considered the beginning of the end? ~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Beginning Of The End quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
What is causing this mysterious perpetual air of inconvenience to slowly engulf the evening. It is not merely emptiness but an awakening in itself about nothingness.
Leave behind what was never yours and accept the fact that momentary pleasures and hideous treasures will perish too soon; so will your pride be snatched away by nothing. Mathematicians often say an instance tends to infinity. But, in actual sense, is anything even close to infinity?
Nullify yourself and disappear into zero, for that is what we call the beginning; the beginning of the end. ~ Ranjani Ramachandran
Beginning Of The End quotes by Ranjani Ramachandran
In technology, failure is often a precondition to future successes, while prosperity can be the beginning of the end, ~ Jacquie McNish
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jacquie McNish
The end of THE END is the best place to begin THE END, because if you read THE END from the beginning of the beginning of THE END to the end of the end of THE END, you will arrive at the end. ~ Lemony Snicket
Beginning Of The End quotes by Lemony Snicket
I had seen this exact same expression and movement before - where? In the future I would come to know that look as the beginning of the end of love - the death of a man's trying. It read as Haughty Fatigue. Like the name of a stripper. ~ Lorrie Moore
Beginning Of The End quotes by Lorrie Moore
That's how it ends
So, this is it.
when we lose it all
but
this is not the End
This is only
The Beginning of the End ~ Rixa White
Beginning Of The End quotes by Rixa White
To Daemon, my arrival was the beginning of the end. The apocalypse. Kat-mageddon. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I loved him... much more than I liked him. And therein was the beginning of the end. ~ Alfa Holden
Beginning Of The End quotes by Alfa Holden
You don't have to live in fear that God is going to take away what is most important to you. After all, Isaac was God's gift to Abraham. But if the gift ever becomes more important than the Gift Giver, then the very thing God gave you to serve His purposes is undermining His plan for your life. God is no longer the End All and Be All. And when God becomes the means to some other end, it's the beginning of the end spiritually because you have inverted the gospel. ~ Mark Batterson
Beginning Of The End quotes by Mark Batterson
I would encourage people that, if you are waiting for the end of 'The Office,' to re-tune in right away. It is the beginning of the end, where we start to break down what's going on with this documentary and see behind the scenes with who is involved. ~ Greg Daniels
Beginning Of The End quotes by Greg Daniels
All children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, 'Oh, why can't you remain like this for ever!' This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. Two is the beginning of the end. ~ J.M. Barrie
Beginning Of The End quotes by J.M. Barrie
Once you run current-account deficits, you depend on the kindness of strangers. This might be the beginning of the end of the American empire. ~ Nouriel Roubini
Beginning Of The End quotes by Nouriel Roubini
It is the beginning of the end.
[Fr., C'est le commencement de al fin.] ~ Charles Maurice De Talleyrand
Beginning Of The End quotes by Charles Maurice De Talleyrand
Well "I do" are the two most famous last words. The beginning of the end. But to lose your life for another I've heard is a good place to begin. ~ Andrew Peterson
Beginning Of The End quotes by Andrew Peterson
In his speech last night, John Kerry said this was the beginning of the end of the Bush administration. I agree. Sure, it may take another five years, but this is it. ~ Jay Leno
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jay Leno
I've often said in the past that I thought MTV was sort of evil incarnate and signified the beginning of the end. And I don't know if I'm entirely wrong about that, but they did sign my paychecks a year ago, so I guess I'm part of the problem. ~ Martha Plimpton
Beginning Of The End quotes by Martha Plimpton
Steve is troubled by a lot of things. He is twenty-three, was raised in Virginia, and has the idea that California is the beginning of the end. "I feel it's insane," he says, and his voice drops. "This chick tells me there's no meaning to life but it doesn't matter, we'll just flow right out. There've been times I felt like packing up and taking off for the East Coast again, at least there I had a target. At least there you expect that it's going to happen." He lights a cigarette for me and his hands shake. "Here you know it's not going to."
I ask what it is that is supposed to happen.
"I don't know," he says. "Something. Anything. ~ Joan Didion
Beginning Of The End quotes by Joan Didion
She rose too, not as if to meet him or to flee from him, but quietly, as though the worst of the task were done and she had only to wait; so quietly that, as he came close, her outstretched hands acted not as a check but as a guide to him. ~ Edith Wharton
Beginning Of The End quotes by Edith Wharton
It wasn't until the movie came out that it all changed for us. Some people say it was the start of Ten Years After, but in another way, it was the beginning of the end. ~ Alvin Lee
Beginning Of The End quotes by Alvin Lee
It was the beginning of the end. ~ Victor Hugo
Beginning Of The End quotes by Victor Hugo
The action movies changed radically when it became possible to Velcro your muscles on. It was the beginning of a new era. The visual took over. The special effects became more important than the single person. That was the beginning of the end. ~ Sylvester Stallone
Beginning Of The End quotes by Sylvester Stallone
From the moment you think you have made it, is the beginning of the end. ~ J.R. Rim
Beginning Of The End quotes by J.R. Rim
Sometimes, I think my most important job as a CEO is to listen for bad news. If you don't act on it, your people will eventually stop bringing bad news to your attention and that is the beginning of the end. ~ Bill Gates
Beginning Of The End quotes by Bill Gates
Our collective participation on the Jan25 is the beginning of the end
the end of silence, acceptance, and submission to all that is happening in our country, and the beginning of a new page of coming forward and demanding our rights. Jan25 is not a revolution in the sense of a coup, but rather a revolution against our government to let them know that we have taken interest in one another's problems and that we shall reclaim all our rights and will not be silent anymore. ~ Wael Ghonim
Beginning Of The End quotes by Wael Ghonim
Where we're at right here is the beginning of the end. ~ Chuck Palahniuk
Beginning Of The End quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
Stability is the beginning of the end. We only walk by continually beginning to fall forward. ~ William Gibson
Beginning Of The End quotes by William Gibson
I kiss her again just to keep my mouth from admitting that it was. The beginning of the end. The very start of the saddest goodbye in history. Because after tonight, she'll walk away from me and go back to him, holding a piece of me in the palm of her hand. And whenever I look up at the sky at night, wondering where she is, if she's happy, if Evan laughs at her corny jokes or smiles whenever she does, that empty space left behind within me will ache with remembrance. Because her light once filled it. She filled me in a way that nobody on this Earth could. And I'll never feel whole again. ~ S.L. Jennings
Beginning Of The End quotes by S.L. Jennings
I prayed. I flattened myself under her bed and prayed. My mother sat up, rigid, trembling. The machines flew overhead then away and back again, the sound retreating and filling my head once more.
I lay next to my mother, wondering about the fate of my brothers, my sisters ans stepsisters, my father and friends. I knew that when the helicopters were gone, life would have changed irreversibly in our village. But would it be over? Would the crickets leave? I did not know. My mother did not know. It was the beginning of the end if knowing that life would continue. Do you have a feeling, Michael, that you will wake up tomorrow? That you will eat tomorrow? That the world will not end tomorrow? ~ Dave Eggers
Beginning Of The End quotes by Dave Eggers
In the technology sector failure is often a precondition to future successes, while prosperity can be the beginning of the end. If the rise and fall of BlackBerry teaches us anything it is that the race for innovation has no finish line, and that winners and losers can change places in an instant. ~ Jacquie McNish
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jacquie McNish
I am one of those who believe that there is no permanent home for even a section of the Bantu in the white area of South Africa and the destiny of South Africa depends on this essential point. If the principle of permanent residence for the black man in the area of the white is accepted then it is the beginning of the end of civilisation as we know it in this country. ~ P. W. Botha
Beginning Of The End quotes by P. W. Botha
Described by Harold Bloom as "the beginning of the end of the traditional novel of social morality" (xii), George Eliot's Middlemarch is nonetheless replete with a kind of authorial intervention that modern readers might find tiresome. Readers today are accustomed to the contemporary fictional maxim of "show, don't tell" but Eliot had different aesthetic ideas, for she always tells us right away who we are dealing with. At the beginning of Middlemarch, the character of one of its protagonists, Dorothea Brooke, is laid out. Eliot writes, ~ George Eliot
Beginning Of The End quotes by George Eliot
This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning. ~ Winston S. Churchill
Beginning Of The End quotes by Winston S. Churchill
It's about seeing how much they can get away with not telling you. This is just a test. Thieves start out by taking candy bars, just to see if they can. Then, when they realize how easy it is, they move to cars and jewels and banks. This is a mere trifle compared with what's coming your way. And the bitch of it is, your generation won't ever see it coming. You'll just sit there with your video games and your Mac Classics or whatever while the bastards rob the store blind. And you don't even know you own the damn store. It's pitiful. Fucking pathetic. The beginning of the end of a goddamn failed empire. ~ Cheryl Della Pietra
Beginning Of The End quotes by Cheryl Della Pietra
The stationary condition is the beginning of the end ~ Henri Frederic Amiel
Beginning Of The End quotes by Henri Frederic Amiel
If I'm only looking at an ending, I'll assume that an ending is all that there is. And without a doubt, that kind of assumption is the beginning of the end. ~ Craig D Lounsbrough
Beginning Of The End quotes by Craig D Lounsbrough
You are following Jesus and shaping our world in the power of the Spirit. And when the final consummation comes, the work that you have done - whether in Bible study or biochemistry, whether in preaching or in pure mathematics, whether in digging ditches or in composing symphonies - will stand, will last.

The fact that we live between, so to speak, the beginning of the End and the end of the End, should enable us to come to terms with our vocation to be for the world that Jesus was for Israel, and in the power of the Spirit to forgive and retain sins. ~ N. T. Wright
Beginning Of The End quotes by N. T. Wright
The truly apocalyptic view of the world is that things do not repeat themselves. It isn't absurd, e.g., to believe that the age of science and technology is the beginning of the end for humanity; that the idea of great progress is delusion, along with the idea that the truth will ultimately be known; that there is nothing good or desirable about scientific knowledge and that mankind, in seeking it, is falling into a trap. It is by no means obvious that this is not how things are. ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
Beginning Of The End quotes by Ludwig Wittgenstein
He who is silent is forgotten; he who does not advance falls back; he who stops is overwhelmed; out distanced, crushed; he who ceases to grow becomes smaller; he who leaves off, gives up; the condition of standing still is the beginning of the end. ~ Henri Frederic Amiel
Beginning Of The End quotes by Henri Frederic Amiel
Increasingly economic historians can draw analogies between the development of the present crisis and the period between the two world wars, as well as the crisis of a century ago, which was associated with the so-called great depression of 1873-1895. The latter crisis resulted in the rise of monopoly capitalism and imperialism, but also the end of Pax Britannica, as Britain began its decline from world leadership in the face of challenges from Germany and the United States. The present world crisis seems to be spelling the beginning of the end of Pax Americana and may hold untold other major readjustments in the international division of labor and world power in store for the future. ~ Andre Gunder Frank
Beginning Of The End quotes by Andre Gunder Frank
As time passed there was no more buying food, no money, no supplies. On some days, we wouldn't even have a crumb to eat. There's a vivid scene in Nanni Loy's The Four Days of Naples, a movie made after the war about the uprising of the Neapolitans against the occupying Germans, in which one of the young characters sinks his teeth into a loaf of bread so voraciously, so desperately, I can still identify with him. In those four famous days in late September, when Naples rose up against the Germans - even before the Allies arrived, it was the climax of a terrible period of deprivation and marked the beginning of the end of the war in Italy. ~ Sophia Loren
Beginning Of The End quotes by Sophia Loren
It was like the beginning of the end of the world. ~ Kenneth Eade
Beginning Of The End quotes by Kenneth Eade
First love, is like your first heart attack. Chances are that you'll survive it, but you don't outlive it. That first gasp for air is the beginning of the end. You have managed to breath some air in, and you think you are all right. You might think it's a matter of lifestyle, quit this, cut our red meat, walk, run, get a personal trainer, try shitting standing up, but... it'll get get you in the end. ~ Mohammed Hanif
Beginning Of The End quotes by Mohammed Hanif
if you are to begin at the beginning of the end, do not wait till the end before you begin. Time and timing is an essential accoutrement in the journey of life. ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Beginning Of The End quotes by Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Dee loves it here. Before you came, she spent most of her days here."
To Daemon, my arrival was the beginning of the end. The apocalypse. Kat-mageddon. "You know, I'm not going to get your sister in trouble."
"We'll see. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
He'd observed over the centuries that what made people old was when they could no longer keep up with change. It's the beginning of the end, though few recognize it as such at the time. ~ Alma Katsu
Beginning Of The End quotes by Alma Katsu
Unfortunately, music devolved instead of evolved. The music business got into the hands of lawyers and accountants rather than the entrepreneurial creative people, and that's when the beginning of the end started. It's all based on money instead of art and creativity. ~ Gary Wright
Beginning Of The End quotes by Gary Wright
It was the beginning of the end.
Or perhaps, it was only the end of something that was never meant to begin. ~ Sherry Thomas
Beginning Of The End quotes by Sherry Thomas
Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence
If you want, then start to laugh
If you must, then start to cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny
Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and miss the chance
To return to innocence
That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence
Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and miss the chance
to return to innocence ~ Enigma
Beginning Of The End quotes by Enigma
No matter how bleak or dire, end-of-the-world scenarios appeal to us because we take meaning from the end... there's also undeniable allure to witnessing the beginning of the end and perishing alone with everyone and everything else. ~ Paul Tremblay
Beginning Of The End quotes by Paul Tremblay
I could take a walk with my wife and try
to explain the ghosts I can't stop speaking to.
Or I could read all those books piling up
about the beginning of the end of understanding ...
Meanwhile, it's such a beautiful morning,
the changing colors, the hypnotic light.
I could sit by the window watching the leaves,
which seem to know exactly how to fall
from one moment to the next. Or I could lose
everything and have to begin over again. ~ Philip Schultz
Beginning Of The End quotes by Philip Schultz
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation ~ Adrian Rogers
Beginning Of The End quotes by Adrian Rogers
Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence.
That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence. ~ Enigma
Beginning Of The End quotes by Enigma
It's actually quite the contrary. It's time to freak the fuck out, and that's not just acceptable, it's obligatory. The rug has just been pulled out from beneath your feet, and everything you thought you knew with absolute certainty has vanished. Absolute hysteria is just the beginning - you're about to embark on an entire roller coaster of crazy-ass emotions. ~ Brandi Glanville
Beginning Of The End quotes by Brandi Glanville
And telling a story, I suppose, is like winding a skein of spun yarn- you sometimes lose track of the beginning. ~ Edith Pattou
Beginning Of The End quotes by Edith Pattou
But see, the incredible thing about people is that we forget," Ray continued. "Time passes and somehow the hope creeps back and sooner or later someone else comes along all over again. We go through our lives like that, and either we just accept the lesser relationship
it may not be total understanding, but it's pretty good
or we keep trying for the perfect union, trying and failing, leaving behind us a trail of broken hearts, our own included. In the end, we die as alone as we were born, having struggled to understand others, to make ourselves understood, but having failed in what we once imagined was possible. ~ Nicole Krauss
Beginning Of The End quotes by Nicole Krauss
If you do things well one at a time, you end up in a really good place. Don't get ahead of yourself. Control the things you can. ~ Ron Johnson
Beginning Of The End quotes by Ron Johnson
A lot of the geeks in Silicon Valley will tell you they no longer believe in the ability of policymakers in Washington to accomplish anything. They don't understand why people end up in politics; they would do much more good for the world if they worked at Google or Facebook. ~ Evgeny Morozov
Beginning Of The End quotes by Evgeny Morozov
That's the business model. How quickly can they be made to grow, how tightly can they be packed, how much or little can they eat, how sick can they get without dying. This isn't animal experimentation, where you can imagine some proportionate good at the other end of the suffering. This is what we feel like eating ... Why doesn't a horny person have as strong a claim to raping an animal as a hungry one does to killing and eating it? It's easy to dismiss that question but hard to respond to it ... How riveting wold the sound of a tortured animal need to be to make you want to hear it that badly? ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
Beginning Of The End quotes by Jonathan Safran Foer
You slogged from the terrifying emptiness of the blank page to the two most beautiful words in a writer's vocabulary: The End. ~ Lisa Cron
Beginning Of The End quotes by Lisa Cron
I feel like I'm in one of those teen shows where a caring friend lets her naive schoolmate know that the popular guy in school is spreading rumors about her. Of course, those usually end with everyone finding out they have chlamydia instead of a vampire husband, but the concept is the same. ~ A.M. Robinson
Beginning Of The End quotes by A.M. Robinson
But can't you even imagine what it must feel like to have a true home? I don't mean heaven. I mean a real earthly home. Not some fortress you bought and built up and have to keep everybody locked in or out. A real home. Not some place you went to and invaded and slaughtered people to get. Not some place you claimed, snatched because you got the guns. Not some place you stole from the people living there, but your own home, where if you go back past your great-great-grandparents, past theirs, and theirs, past the whole of Western history, past the beginning of organized knowledge, past pyramids and poison bows, on back to when rain was new, before plants forgot they could sing and birds thought they were fish, back when God said Good! Good!-- there, right there where you know your own people were born and lived and died. Imagine that, Pat. That place. Who was God talking to if not to my people living in my home?"
"You preaching, Reverend."
"No, I'm talking to you, Pat. I'm talking to you. ~ Toni Morrison
Beginning Of The End quotes by Toni Morrison
I've never thought about the end of my career. I've had this growing motto in my life to live day to day - and when you live day to day, it's hard to talk years. ~ Troy Polamalu
Beginning Of The End quotes by Troy Polamalu
Don't need to remind any of you what Tarkin did at the end of the war when there weren't Jedi around to keep a lid on the violence and retribution. We wouldn't be aboard this ship otherwise. The Emperor is going to win-now the populations of the galaxy until the only ones left are the ones he can control. And he and Vader and Tarkin are going to accomplish that with an army of steadfast recruits who might as well be clones for the little independent thinking they do, weapons that haven't been seen in more than a thousand years, and fear. ~ James Luceno
Beginning Of The End quotes by James Luceno
So I put it out of its misery, if it really was miserable, and tried not to think about it. That was another thing they taught us at Willow Creek: don't write their eulogy, don't try to imagine who they used to be, how they came to be here, how they came to be this. I know, who doesn't do that, right? Who doesn't look at one of those things and just naturally start to wonder? It's like reading the last page of a book ... your imagination just naturally spinning. And that's when you get distracted, get sloppy, let your guard down and end up leaving someone else to wonder what happened to you. ~ Max Brooks
Beginning Of The End quotes by Max Brooks
At the other end of the room the three old men discussed infirmities; exchanging symptoms in undertones as boys might speak of lust. ~ Shirley Hazzard
Beginning Of The End quotes by Shirley Hazzard
Home Economics & Civics
What ever happened to the two courses that were cornerstone programs of public education? For one, convenience foods made learning how to cook seem irrelevant. Home Economics was also gender driven and seemed to stratify women, even though most well paid chefs are men. Also, being considered a dead-end high school program, in a world that promotes continuing education, it has waned in popularity. With both partners in a marriage working, out of necessity or choice, career-minded couples would rather go to a restaurant or simply micro-burn a frozen pre-prepared food packet. Almost anybody that enjoys the preparation of food can make a career of it by going to a specialty school such as the Culinary Institute of America along the Hudson River in Hyde Park, New York. Also, many colleges now have programs that are directed to those that are interested in cooking as a career. However, what about those that are looking to other career paths but still have a need to effectively run a household? Who among us is still concerned with this mundane but necessary avocation that so many of us are involved with? Public Schools should be aware that the basic requirements to being successful in life include how to balance and budget a checking and a savings account. We should all be able to prepare a wholesome, nutritious and delicious meal, make a bed and clean up behind one's self, not to mention taking care of children that may become a part of the family ~ Hank Bracker
Beginning Of The End quotes by Hank Bracker
There was once a merchant. An eager, industrious young man. His business ... required him to rise early and thus to bed early. But one evening ... he stayed awake past his usual hour ... and in so doing he heard the wondrous singing of something he'd never heard before: a nightbird. The next night, he managed to stay awake later ... to hear more of the bird's song. And the following night. He became so ... so intoxicated with the nightbird's voice that he thought only of it during the day. Came the time when he spent all the night listening to that song. Could not carry out his business during the sunlit hours. Soon he turned his back altogether on the day, and gave himself over to the nightbird's beautiful voice ... much to the sad end of his career, his health ... eventually his life. ~ Anonymous
Beginning Of The End quotes by Anonymous
It's Twilight", Edward murmured. "It's the safest time of day for us", he said, answering the unspoken question in my eyes. "The easiest time. But also the saddest, in a way... The end of another day, the return of the night. Darkness is so predictable, don't you think?" He smiled wistfully.
"I like the night. Without the dark, you'd never be able to see the stars." I frowned. "Not that you see them here much. ~ Stephanie Meyer (Twilight)
Beginning Of The End quotes by Stephanie Meyer (Twilight)
That was mere probing, my eye was really turned on an invisible realm far beyond the horizon. What is it to see the invisible? That is the ultimate vision, the denial at the end of all seeing, the eye`s denial of itself. ~ Yukio Mishima
Beginning Of The End quotes by Yukio Mishima
A celebration of insignificance. Is that all we are in the end? ~ Steven Erikson
Beginning Of The End quotes by Steven Erikson
At the end of her life she was aware of heat but not pain. She had time to consider his eyes, eyes of that blue which is the color of the sky at first light of the morning. She had time to think of him on the Drop, riding Rusher flat out with his black hair flying back from his temples and his neckerchief rippling; to see him laughing with an ease and freedom he would never find again in the long life which stretched out for him beyond hers, and it was his laughter she took with her as she went out, fleeing the light and heat in to the silkly, consoling dark, calling to him over and over as she went, calling bird and bear and hare and fish. ~ Stephen King
Beginning Of The End quotes by Stephen King
She thought she had been saved by his love for her, and in part she had been. It had cleansed her, never casting blame. But that had been only the beginning. It was loving him in return that had brought her up out of the darkness. ~ Francine Rivers
Beginning Of The End quotes by Francine Rivers
He was one of my most dramatic recoveries with AIDS, and the reason I say that is that he was the most far gone. He was in the absolute, end stage - they have that wing in the hospital where they have given up on you. You can smoke pot and do anything you want. They had given up on him. ~ Richard M. Schulze
Beginning Of The End quotes by Richard M. Schulze
caused no end of trouble. It took the air cover from all four carriers to handle them properly. ~ Walter Lord
Beginning Of The End quotes by Walter Lord
Why Edward Bonshaw had been so attached to it? "A glooming peace this morning with it brings" - well, yes, and why would such darkness ever depart? Who can happily think of what else happened to Juliet and her Romeo, and not dwell on what happened to them at the end of their story? ~ John Irving
Beginning Of The End quotes by John Irving
It used to be that you would go in to see a CEO, and you would ask them, 'Is your company for sale?' and if they said 'No, we have no interest in selling,' that was sort of the end of the conversation. ~ Henry Kravis
Beginning Of The End quotes by Henry Kravis
I'm not a fool, I knew from the beginning
what couldn't happen. What couldn't happen
didn't. The enterprise is abandoned.
But half our life is
dreams, delirium, everything that underlies
that feeds
that keeps alive the illusion of sanity, semi-
sanity, we allow
others to see. The half of me that feeds the rest
is in mourning. Mourns. Each time we must
mourn, we fear this is the final mourning, this time
mourning never will lift. ~ Frank Bidart
Beginning Of The End quotes by Frank Bidart
At the end of the day, if pride is your greatest strength, turn it into vanity. ~ Lionel Suggs
Beginning Of The End quotes by Lionel Suggs
Everything lives on earth according to the law of nature, and from that law emerges the glory and joy of liberty; but man is denied this fortune, because he set for the God-given soul a limited and earthly law of his own. He made for himself strict rules. Man built a narrow and painful prison in which he secluded his affections and desires. He dug out a deep grave in which he buried his heart and its purpose. If an individual, through the dictates of his soul, declares his withdrawal from society and violates the law, his fellowmen will say he is a rebel worthy of exile, or an infamous creature worthy only of execution. Will man remain a slave of self-confinement until the end of the world? Or will he be freed by the passing of time and live in the Spirit for the Spirit? Will man insist upon staring downward and backward at the earth? Or will he turn his eyes toward the sun so he will not see the shadow of his body amongst the skulls and thorns? ~ Kahlil Gibran
Beginning Of The End quotes by Kahlil Gibran
I thought we came out with too much respect at the beginning of the game and were on our heels instead of coming out attacking the way we did the last few games without Ricky and Kevin. ~ Dwane Casey
Beginning Of The End quotes by Dwane Casey
The last man of the world-city no longer wants to live
he may cling to life as an individual, but as a type, as an aggregate, no, for it is a characteristic of this collective existence that it eliminates the terror of death. ~ Oswald Spengler
Beginning Of The End quotes by Oswald Spengler
No man can put a chain about the ankle of his fellow man without at last finding the other end fastened about his own neck. ~ Frederick Douglass
Beginning Of The End quotes by Frederick Douglass
Prayer of an Anonymous Abbess:

Lord, thou knowest better than myself that I am growing older and will soon be old. Keep me from becoming too talkative, and especially from the unfortunate habit of thinking that I must say something on every subject and at every opportunity.

Release me from the idea that I must straighten out other peoples' affairs. With my immense treasure of experience and wisdom, it seems a pity not to let everybody partake of it. But thou knowest, Lord, that in the end I will need a few friends.

Keep me from the recital of endless details; give me wings to get to the point.

Grant me the patience to listen to the complaints of others; help me to endure them with charity. But seal my lips on my own aches and pains -- they increase with the increasing years and my inclination to recount them is also increasing.

I will not ask thee for improved memory, only for a little more humility and less self-assurance when my own memory doesn't agree with that of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be wrong.

Keep me reasonably gentle. I do not have the ambition to become a saint -- it is so hard to live with some of them -- but a harsh old person is one of the devil's masterpieces.

Make me sympathetic without being sentimental, helpful but not bossy. Let me discover merits where I had not expected them, and talents in people whom I had not thought to possess any. And, Lo ~ Anonymous
