It was baking hot in the square when we came out after lunch with our bags and the rod-case to go to Burguete. People were on top of the bus, and others were climbing up a ladder. Bill went up and Robert sat beside Bill to save a place for me, and I went back in the hotel to get a couple of bottles of wine to take with us. When I came out the bus was crowded. Men and women were sitting on all the baggage and boxes on top, and the women all had their fans going in the sun. It certainly was hot. Robert climbed down and fitted into the place he had saved on the one wooden seat that ran across the top. Robert Cohn stood in the shade of the arcade waiting for us to start. A Basque with a big leather wine-bag in his lap lay across the top of the bus in front of our seat, leaning back against our legs. He offered the wine-skin to Bill and to me, and when I tipped it up to drink he imitated the sound of a klaxon motor-horn so well and so suddenly that spilled some of the wine, and everybody laughed. He apologized and made me take another drink. He made the klaxon again a little later, and it fooled me the second time. He was very good at it. The Basques liked it. The man next to Bill was talking to him in Spanish and Bill was not getting it, so he offered the man one of the bottles of wine. The man waved it away. He said it was too hot and he had drunk too much at lunch. When Bill offered the bottle the second time he took a long drink, and then the bottle went all over that part of ~ Ernest Hemingway
Basque People quotes by Ernest Hemingway
I can remember when I was a bit of an ETA fan myself. It was in 1973, when a group of Basque militants assassinated Adm. Carrero Blanco. The admiral was a stone-faced secret police chief, personally groomed to be the successor to the decrepit Francisco Franco. His car blew up, killing only him and his chauffeur with a carefully planted charge, and not only was the world well rid of another fascist, but, more important, the whole scheme of extending Franco's rule was vaporized in the same instant. The dictator had to turn instead to Crown Prince Juan Carlos, who turned out to be the best Bourbon in history and who swiftly dismantled Franco's entire system. If this action was 'terrorism,' it had something to be said for it. Everyone I knew in Spain made a little holiday in their hearts when the gruesome admiral went sky-high. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Basque People quotes by Christopher Hitchens
Occasionally, you will come across a wise crack by a pseudoliberal who will refer to God as "she," as if that is the most revolutionary idea known to man, that God could be feminine. Never in such a context is the history of the sexuality of God elucidated, as if it was so obvious to all that God could only be masculine, until the author came along and declared by fiat its femininity. In fact, there did exist matriarchal societies extending from the unknown past into the early historical period. It appears they existed along the "highland zone" which is the foothills extending along the mountainous region from the Pyrenees to the Himalayas. These matriarchal societies influenced the early Sumerian civilization and to a large extent the Minoan civilization, which was one of the few, if not the only matriarchal civilization. These societies were largely overrun and dissipated by invasions of the northern, patriarchal groups but these latter groups did incorporate some matriarchal aspects which exist to this day. For example, although the chief deities of Greece and Rome were masculine, there continued to be a panoply of feminine gods. Or take for example, the history of the Basque people of SW France. Also, when masculine Judaism moved from the Levant to Rome via moderate Christianity and the reconciling Paul, it eventually grafted in the idea of Virgin Mary the Divine. A distant version of this idea stands in New York harbor with her head and torch held high, neither bull dyke ~ Scott Mckee
Basque People quotes by Scott Mckee
Finally I find it, the book, but as I'm pulling it out of the stack I hear a noise coming from my toy room. It sounds like scratching or scraping maybe and my mind instantly goes to the possibility that maybe it's a monster or a dragon or something else with claws. My hand shakes a little as I stand up and turn back toward the room. When I step into it, I feel the wind hit my cheeks. I shine the light around and notice one of the windows is open. I don't understand why. I didn't open it and I don't think it was open when I came down here. What if it was a monster?
I sweep the flashlight around the room at all my toys as I start back toward the corner. Then the light lands on something tall ... I hear voices. Ones that don't sound like they belong to a monster, but just people. But that's what they end up being.
Terrible, horrible monsters. ~ Jessica Sorensen
Basque People quotes by Jessica Sorensen
You've always called it a store, ever since we were kids. It's a bookshop. It's not like some other retail store. It might be the same in a whole lot of ways, but this bookshop is special. Books are special. Books are important. Words are important. Words matter, in fact. They're not pointless, as you've suggested. If they were pointless, then they couldn't start revolutions and they wouldn't change history. If they were just words, we wouldn't write songs or listen to them. We wouldn't beg to be read to as kids. If they were just words, then stories wouldn't have been around since before we could write. We wouldn't have learned to write. If they were just words, people wouldn't fall in love because of them, feel bad because of them, ache because of them, and stop aching because of them. ~ Cath Crowley
Basque People quotes by Cath Crowley
The problem with modern politics is everybody is doing sound bite stuff. In my stump speech, I give 20 minutes on why I think we're off track. And I think people do really want to engage in a serious high-level discussion on how to get the country back on track because people care about their own country. ~ Dave Brat
Basque People quotes by Dave Brat
I am always naturally drawn to heroines that have human flaws because I enjoy people that have lived their life with courage and make big successes and big failures. ~ Romola Garai
Basque People quotes by Romola Garai
Sex, of course, remains our continuing preoccupation. As you and I know, the act of intercourse is now always a model for something else. What will follow is the psychopathology of sex, relationships so lunar and abstract that people will become mere extensions of the geometries of situations. This will allow the exploration, without any taint of guilt, of every aspect of sexual psychopathology. ~ J.G. Ballard
Basque People quotes by J.G. Ballard
Whether you're sad, you're a mess, or you've hit rock bottom, you still have TO PLAY! That's how people like us survive ~ Kaori Miyazono
Basque People quotes by Kaori Miyazono
Most people know me at Pixar as the guy that doesn't like to do sequels or very reluctant to do sequels. ~ Andrew Stanton
Basque People quotes by Andrew Stanton
I wish people could get over the hang-up of subtitles, although at the same time, you know, that's kind of why I'm kind of pro dubbing. ~ Jodie Foster
Basque People quotes by Jodie Foster
Any time you're stepping out on a limb as an artist, it's scary, especially when you have a lot of success. When you're reaching a lot of people, the masses, it's easy to stay in that niche, you know? Especially when you're making a lot of money and you know there's a formula, it's easy to stay in that rut. ~ Scott Weiland
Basque People quotes by Scott Weiland
The whole human earth was bleeding.
Time, buildings, routes, rain,
erase the constellation of the crime,
the fact is, this small planet
has been covered a thousand times by blood,
war or vengeance, ambush or battle,
people fell, they were devoured,
and later oblivion wiped clean
each square meter: sometimes
a vague, dishonest monument,
other times a clause in bronze,
and still later, conversations, births,
townships, and then oblivion.
What arts we have for extermination
and what science to obliterate memory!
What was bloody is covered with flowers.
Once more, young men, ready yourselves
for another chance to kill, to die again,
and to scatter flowers over the blood. ~ Pablo Neruda
Basque People quotes by Pablo Neruda
Once people start throwing wet stuff, I go inside. ~ Stephenie Meyer
Basque People quotes by Stephenie Meyer
Perfect people with imperfect life. Imperfect people with perfect life. ~ Ratish Edwards
Basque People quotes by Ratish Edwards

Basque People quotes by Jon Anderson
In a world where the people are numbed and distracted, the only thing that sells is the unbelievable. ~ James Redfield
Basque People quotes by James Redfield
O Lord, deliver me from this lust of always vindicating myself." Such a need for constant vindication destroys our soul's faith in God. Don't say, "I must explain myself," or, "I must get people to understand." Our Lord never explained anything - He left the misunderstandings or misconceptions of others to correct themselves. ~ Oswald Chambers
Basque People quotes by Oswald Chambers
The incentive for digging up gossip has become so great that people will break the law for the opportunity to take that picture. Then it crosses the line into invasion of privacy. The thing that's really bad about it, though, is that the tabloids don't tell the truth. ~ Vince Vaughn
Basque People quotes by Vince Vaughn
What interests me more than dramatic heroics are the domestic things: How do people do laundry and find food when the world is about to end? ~ Susan Beth Pfeffer
Basque People quotes by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Even those people who have no sorrow of their own often feel melancholy from the circumstances in which they are placed. ~ Murasaki Shikibu
Basque People quotes by Murasaki Shikibu
You can't lead people to where you've not been yourself. When you all get stranded, you need the knowledge of someone who knows the way! ~ Israelmore Ayivor
Basque People quotes by Israelmore Ayivor
Do you think people can be rehabilitated and forgiven?"
"Sure! Look at Ollie North."
"Well, he lost that Senate race. He was not sufficiently forgiven."
"But he got some votes," Jan insisted.

"Now he's back promoting a line of fire-retardant pajamas. It's a life! ~ Lorrie Moore
Basque People quotes by Lorrie Moore

Basque People quotes by Jodi Lynn Anderson
When technology is mobile, and transactions occur in cyberspace, as they increasingly will do, governments will no longer be able to charge more for their services than they are worth to the people who pay for them. ~ James Dale Davidson
Basque People quotes by James Dale Davidson
The joy of the roasts is to watch people get hurt and offended, and then have to laugh to pretend they're a good sport. ~ Gilbert Gottfried
Basque People quotes by Gilbert Gottfried

People speak a lot but stops speaking even a word after the misunderstanding pops up ~ Vignesh S.V
Basque People quotes by Vignesh S.V
I think that magic, at its root, is a very abstract notion. There's no real, approved definition. And, in that sense, it's like love; you can only see magic by the effect it has on people. ~ Drummond Money-Coutts
Basque People quotes by Drummond Money-Coutts
I came to join the revolution, not to kill the Cambodian people. Look at me now. Am I a violent person? No. So, as far as my conscience and my mission were concerned, there was no problem. ~ Pol Pot
Basque People quotes by Pol Pot
I like my subjects to be American, and not too dead, so I can interview people who knew them. ~ A. Scott Berg
Basque People quotes by A. Scott Berg
When people come to Jamaica, we don't want them to think about the problems of Jamaica. So let them come be in their paradise. ~ Ziggy Marley
Basque People quotes by Ziggy Marley
Yet, in the middle of all this grief, I realize there's a part of me clinical enough to want to document it. People talk about artists like they're these sensitive, delicate beings who don't use the toilet, but I think the real ones are something else. They're users. They're mercenaries. They're hunters. And they don't let anything – other people, or themselves – get in the way of it. ~ Kirsty Eagar
Basque People quotes by Kirsty Eagar
Governments took advantage of the tendency for local pride and convinced their people that their country was the best at everything and governments were the reason. Governments never let the facts get in the way of a good story, but the internet has a way of inserting undeniable facts into the conversation that temper national pride. ~ Adam Kokesh
Basque People quotes by Adam Kokesh
We have to remind people how important arts are. People just don't see it. ~ Steven Michael Quezada
Basque People quotes by Steven Michael Quezada
I'm confident as a supporter of same sex marriage, I'm confident that there'll be a yes vote in that plebiscite, and that the parliament will then move very swiftly to implement the will of the people. ~ George Brandis
Basque People quotes by George Brandis
People forget that old women were young once, but d'you think we old women forget? In my heart, I'm still thirty. ~ Megan Chance
Basque People quotes by Megan Chance
I have had some problems because the French don't like people to have success, they don't like the number one. ~ Alain Prost
Basque People quotes by Alain Prost
From this outer edge of his life, looking back, there was only one remorse, and that was only that he wished to go on living. Did all dying people feel this way, as if they had never lived? Did life seem that short, indeed, over and done before you took a breath? Did it seem this abrupt and impossible to everyone, or only to himself, here, now, with a few hours left to him for thought and deliberation? ~ Ray Bradbury
Basque People quotes by Ray Bradbury
Don't let other people's conversations about what you're doing or you've done be part of your own conversation. ~ Kristen Stewart
Basque People quotes by Kristen Stewart
If I had a kid, I would resent himher for getting in the way of my dreams. Dick wouldn't have married me, so I'd probably be a single mom, still clinging to the idea that two broken people could complete each other.

I eventually came to the same conclusion as dick: neither of us was fit to be a parent. I could almost see him mentally fist-bumping himself. ~ Anna Akana
Basque People quotes by Anna Akana
On a really big budget movie you do chemistry reads, and you sort of hedge your bets a little bit more and make sure that these people get along. But on the low budget side of things, I have to trust my gut that when I cast these people, the various elements are going to play together. ~ Joe Swanberg
Basque People quotes by Joe Swanberg
Look at all of the great strengths of America: entrepreneurialship, work ethic, natural resources, a democracy, a transparency, a willingness to be critical. Around the world, they look at us, and they say, "Why are you criticizing yourself? Why are you people arguing during the political process to elect a president or somebody else?" That's the great strength of this country. ~ Michael Bloomberg
Basque People quotes by Michael Bloomberg
I don't believe that same-sex marriages would weaken heterosexual marriage. Marriage is not a scarce resource. I thought that conservatives worried about too few people choosing marriage, not too many. ~ Amy Davidson
Basque People quotes by Amy Davidson
A day was twenty-four hours long but seemed longer. There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County. But it was a time of vague optimism for some of the people: Maycomb County had recently been told that it had nothing to fear but fear itself. We ~ Harper Lee
Basque People quotes by Harper Lee
I was once in a bar with a friend of mine, we were having a drink and a bunch of people walked in and they were talking about how, "It's official, there's going to be a 'Friends' reunion," and I'm sitting there with my friend going, "No, no, there's not." ~ Marta Kauffman
Basque People quotes by Marta Kauffman
From the beginning of time, we've had financial crises. People always blame the banks and for good reason. When you look for the root causes, they're almost always failed government policies. ~ Henry Paulson
Basque People quotes by Henry Paulson
People under suspicion are better moving than at rest, since at rest they may be sitting in the balance without knowing it, being weighed together with their sins. ~ Franz Kafka
