There is no room in baseball for discrimination. It is our national pastime and a game for all. ~ Lou Gehrig
Baseball And Life quotes by Lou Gehrig
Baseball is the only thing beside the paper clip that hasn't changed ~ Bill Veeck
Baseball And Life quotes by Bill Veeck
It's hard to win a pennant, but it's harder to lose one. ~ Chuck Tanner
Baseball And Life quotes by Chuck Tanner
Your gifts lie in the place where your values, passions and strengths meet. Discovering that place is the first step toward sculpting your masterpiece, Your Life. ~ Michelangelo
Baseball And Life quotes by Michelangelo
Remember, light and shadow never stand still. ~ Benjamin West
Baseball And Life quotes by Benjamin West
Life is a vast, unknowable movement of wholeness with no one separate from it and nothing outside of it. ~ Toni Packer
Baseball And Life quotes by Toni Packer
Those who die young, they are cheated," she said. "Not cheated out of life, because life is a penance, but the young, they're cheated because they don't know it's coming. They don't have time to move closer, to return home. When you know you're going to die, you try to be near the bones of your own people. You don't even think you have bones when you're young, even when you break them, you don't believe you have them. But when you're old, they start reminding you they're there. They start turning to dust on you, even as you're walking here and there, going from place to place. And this is when you crave to be near the bones of your own people. My children never felt this. They had to look death in the face, even before they knew what it was. Just like you did, no? ~ Edwidge Danticat
Baseball And Life quotes by Edwidge Danticat
Thus looked at from outside, these guests
--in this dead-and-alive dining room, of this dead-and-alive house, of this dead-and-alive street, of this dead-and-alive little town--in grey, dead winter of the deadliest part of the most deadly war in history--thus seen from a detached point of view, they presented an extraordinary spectacle. ~ Patrick Hamilton
Baseball And Life quotes by Patrick Hamilton
So imagine a fire going
wood snapping the way it does when it's a little green - the wind rattling the windows behind the curtains
and one of those Chopin melodies that feel like sorrow and ecstasy all mixed together pouring from the keys
and you have my idea of happiness. Or just reading, reading and lamplight, the sound of pages turning.
And so you dare to be happy.
You do that thing.
You dare. ~ Steven Millhauser
Baseball And Life quotes by Steven Millhauser
The trick, I realized, was in letting go enough to simply accept the challenging times and experience life in all its messy glory instead of trying to predict or control our reality. ~ Laura Bradbury
Baseball And Life quotes by Laura Bradbury
BISMILLAH
It's a habit of yours to walk slowly.
You hold a grudge for years.
With such heaviness, how can you be modest?
With such attachments, do you expect to arrive anywhere?
Be wide as the air to learn a secret.
Right now you're equal portions clay
and water, thick mud.
Abraham learned how the sun and moon and the stars all set. He said, No longer will I try to assign partners for God.
You are so weak. Give up to grace.
The ocean takes care of each wave
till it gets to shore.
You need more help than you know.
You're trying to live your life in open scaffolding.
Say Bismillah, In the name of God,
as the priest does with a knife when he offers an animal.
Bismillah your old self
to find your real name. ~ Rumi
Baseball And Life quotes by Rumi
The latter. She had a good run, Sook said, doing a little shrug. It was his usual response to death at Mapleshade, and it was a safe bet that he felt that way about himself. Like most twice-widowed, Korea-vet, nature-loving, gun-enthusiast, bilingual, weed-connoisseur great grandfathers of five, he'd lived a full life. ~ Lisa Lutz
Baseball And Life quotes by Lisa Lutz
I myself have already spent a third of my life in Germany, first in Cologne and then, since 1994, in Berlin. ~ Olafur Eliasson
Baseball And Life quotes by Olafur Eliasson
If Adam were honest with himself, which he rarely was, he'd come to terms with the fact that beyond his work and the view, he was floundering a bit. His plan had been to take the insurance money, leave his old life behind, and start completely over somewhere new. A place where memories didn't lurk around every corner.
He hadn't figured on the memories coming along with him. ~ Kirsten Fullmer
Baseball And Life quotes by Kirsten Fullmer
I think that part of my success was the fact that I would literally threaten your life if you got in-between me and what I wanted to do with my music. I was so drunk and in-your-face and so ADHD and so unhinged that I kind of got what I wanted. ~ Richard Patrick
Baseball And Life quotes by Richard Patrick
Once it was believed that to bring these creatures to manhood it was enough to feed them, clothe them, and look to their everyday needs; but we see now that the result of this has been to turn out petty shopkeepers, village politicians, hollow technicians devoid of an inner life. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Baseball And Life quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
So you want a knife, a nice sharp knife. You hone that blade to its limits. It even cuts through stone when you want it to. It saves your life. And then you're outraged when it cuts you accidentally. You see, knives don't switch off. And neither do people, not when you hone them to a fine edge. ~ Karen Traviss
Baseball And Life quotes by Karen Traviss
We always get help we ask for.
"Knock and the door will open"
Make sure it's the right door. ~ Aleksandra Ninkovic
Baseball And Life quotes by Aleksandra Ninkovic
She cried for herself, she cried because she was afraid that she herself might die in the night, because she was alone in the world, because her desperate and empty life was not an overture but an ending, and through it all she could see was the rough, brutal shape of a coffin. ~ John Cheever
Baseball And Life quotes by John Cheever
A wise man has said: 'Only a Christian can live wholly in the present, for to him the past is pardoned and the future is safe in God.' ... the Christian life must be a life without regrets, without remorse. ~ Evelyn Underhill
Baseball And Life quotes by Evelyn Underhill
I want to start two institutions, one in Madras and one in Calcutta, to carry out my plan; and that plan briefly is to bring the Vedantic ideals into the everyday practical life of the saint or the sinner, of the sage or the ignoramus, of the Brahmin or the Pariah. ~ Swami Vivekananda
Baseball And Life quotes by Swami Vivekananda
It is America, I don't want the government trying to control more of my life. I want less government control, and I think there are too many government regulations, laws and taxes on the books. ~ Trent Lott
Baseball And Life quotes by Trent Lott
Life is, in itself and forever, shipwreck. To be shipwrecked is not to drown. The poor human being, feeling himself sinking into the abyss, moves his arms to keep afloat. This movement of the arms which is his reaction against his own destruction, is culture - a swimming stroke.... But ten centuries of cultural continuity brings with it - among many advantages the great disadvantage that man believes himself safe, loses the feeling of shipwreck, and his culture proceeds to burden itself with parasitic and lymphatic matter. Some discontinuity must therefore intervene, in order that man may renew his feeling of peril, the substance of his life. All his life-saving equipment must fail, then his arms will once again move redeemingly. ~ Jose Ortega Y Gasset
Baseball And Life quotes by Jose Ortega Y Gasset
There are in our life any number of women whom we have never wished to see again, and who have quite naturally responded to our in no way calculated silence with a silence as profound. Only in their case as we never loved them, we have never counted the years spent apart from them, and this instance, which would invalidate our whole argument, we are inclined to forget when we are considering the healing effect of isolation, just as people who believe in presentiments forget all the occasions on which their own have not 'come true. ~ Marcel Proust
Baseball And Life quotes by Marcel Proust
This is the deal, Angel. You ... ran ... away from me. And I tasted regret for the first time in my life. And that didn't sting, it fuckin' killed. ~ Kristen Ashley
Baseball And Life quotes by Kristen Ashley
Two kinds of men generally best succeed in political life; men of no principle, but of great talent; and men of no talent, but of one principle - that of obedience to their superiors. ~ Wendell Phillips
Baseball And Life quotes by Wendell Phillips
There are few things sadder in this life than watching someone walk away after they've left you. Watching the distance between your bodies expand until there's nothing but empty space and silence. ~ Laura Zigman
Baseball And Life quotes by Laura Zigman
And she's striken with sudden nostalgia for the life she's been so eager to pack away, she wishes there was some way of being everything at once–grown and sure and clever, young and protected and new. ~ Sonya Hartnett
Baseball And Life quotes by Sonya Hartnett
The human heart operates from two premises: "I Am Responsible" and "Only Love Works. ~ Swami Dhyan Giten
Baseball And Life quotes by Swami Dhyan Giten
Stephen King consummately honors several traditions with his rare paperback original, 'Joyland.' He addresses the novel of carny life and sideshows, where the midway serves as microcosm, such as in those famous books by Ray Bradbury, Charles Finney and William Lindsay Gresham. ~ Paul Di Filippo
Baseball And Life quotes by Paul Di Filippo
Let's face it: my life tends to revolve around food, and I love feeding people. ~ Ruth Reichl
Baseball And Life quotes by Ruth Reichl
Better to walk through life simply and without masks, than to lose ourselves in the pursuit of identities that are purely cosmetic and commercial. Then, at least, we will be known for what we are rather than for what we are not. ~ Joan D. Chittister
Baseball And Life quotes by Joan D. Chittister
I have given no definition of love. This is impossible, because there is no higher principle by which it could be defined. It is life itself in its actual unity. The forms and structures in which love embodies itself are the forms and structures in which love overcomes its self-destructive forces. ~ Paul Tillich
Baseball And Life quotes by Paul Tillich
Honesty is a big ticket item seemingly just out of the reach of the frivolous! ~ Mary-Ellen Peters
Baseball And Life quotes by Mary-Ellen Peters
My greatest strength as a child, I realize now, was my imagination. While every other kid was reading and writing, I had seven whole hours a day to practice my imagination. When do you get that space in your life, ever? ~ Barbara Corcoran
Baseball And Life quotes by Barbara Corcoran
Are you going to keep her?"
"Yes."
"Does she know it?"
"Not yet."
Ramsey overheard the conversation and laughed heartily. "I assume you've considered all the problems, Brodick."
"I have."
"It won't be an easy life for her living with - " Ramsey began. Brodick finished his sentence for him.
"Living with the Buchanan clan. I know, and I worry about her adjustment."
Ramsey grinned. "That's not what I was going to say. It won't be easy for her living with you. Rumor has it, you're a difficult man to be around."
Brodick didn't take offense. "Gillian's aware of my flaws."
"And she'll still have you?" Winslow asked.
"As a matter of fact, she has refused to marry me."
Knowing Brodick as well as they did, both Ramsey and Winslow began to laugh again.
"So when's the wedding?" Ramsey asked. ~ Julie Garwood
Baseball And Life quotes by Julie Garwood
I'd say that most of life seems to me to be that way, a mixture of the mundane and the mythic, when you're living the life of the mind. ~ Laurie Foos
Baseball And Life quotes by Laurie Foos
I love being on stage. I'm completely, totally relaxed. It's the only time in my life when I know where I am and what's coming next. The other Robert Powell is probably fairly melancholic. Let's just say happiness isn't my default position. There are dark parts. I'm very good at it. I frighten people sometimes. ~ Robert Powell
Baseball And Life quotes by Robert Powell
Some moment happens in your life that you say yes right up to the roots of your hair, that makes it worth having been born just to have happen. laughing with somebody till the tears run down your cheeks. waking up to the first snow. being in bed with somebody you love ... whether you thank god for such a moment or thank your lucky stars, it is a moment that is trying to open up your whole life. If you turn your back on such a moment and hurry along to business as usual, it may lose you the ball game. if you throw your arms around such a moment and hug it like crazy, it may save your soul. ~ Frederick Buechner
Baseball And Life quotes by Frederick Buechner
Bea is the only good thing I've ever done in my life,' he said. 'Take care of her for me.'
My father went with him to the door and watched him walk away down Calle Santa Ana, with that sadness that softens men who are aware that they are growing old together. ~ Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Baseball And Life quotes by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Like many of the kids I write about, I once was a runaway myself - and a few (but not all) of the other writers in the series also come from troubled backgrounds. That early experience influences my fiction, no doubt, but I don't think it's necessary to come from such a background in order to write a good Bordertown tale. To me, "running away to Bordertown" is as much a metaphorical act as an actual one. These tales aren't just for kids who have literally run away from home, but also for every kid, every person, who "runs away" from a difficult or constrictive past to build a different kind of life in some new place. Some of us "run away" to college . . . or we "run away" to a distant city or state . . . or we "run away" from a safe, secure career path to follow our passions or artistic muse. We "run away" from places we don't belong, or from families we have never fit into. We "run away" to find ourselves, or to find others like ourselves, or to find a place where we finally truly belong. And that kind of "running away from home" - the everyday, metaphorical kind - can be just as hard, lonely, and disorienting as crossing the Nevernever to Bordertown . . . particularly when you're in your teens, or early twenties, and your resources (both inner and outer) are still limited. I want to tell stories for young people who are making that journey, or contemplating making that journey. Stories in which friendship, community, and art is the "magic" that lights the way.

(s ~ Terri Windling
Baseball And Life quotes by Terri Windling
And that's what we'll do every day. If you or your friends spray-paint obscenities on our walls, we'll scrub them off, and the people will come. if you break our windows, we'll fix them, and the people will come. If you hurt us, we'll wash off the blood, slap on some bandages and the people will come ... any wound you inflict, we'll stitch up. We're not going to stop, no matter what you do. This work is too important. Too many lives are at stake. ~ Robert J. Wiersema
Baseball And Life quotes by Robert J. Wiersema
I could have taken you to the lab right now and been done with you.Now I have to babysit you until Sunday." He shakes his head and pushes past me, grumbling under his breath.
"Gee, thanks. But you're the worst babysitter in the history of the world, Dreyden. Babysitters are supposed to be fun," I say to his back, and then stick out my tongue. Very thirteen-year old. He turns and strides up to me, eyes full of fire, not stopping until our noses touch. I gulp and force myself not to step back. "Nothing about life is fum anymore, Fo," he says. And then he leaves, feet thumping sown the stairs. ~ Bethany Wiggins
Baseball And Life quotes by Bethany Wiggins
It gave me a chance to re-evaluate my life and my career. Cancer certainly gives things a new perspective. I would not have won the Tour de France if I had not had cancer. It gave me new strength and focus. ~ Lance Armstrong
Baseball And Life quotes by Lance Armstrong
It was only when we brought Will back home, once the annex was adapted and ready, that I could see a point in making it beautiful again. I needed to give my son something to look at. I needed to tell him, silently, that things might change, grow, or fail, but that life did go on. That we were all part of some great cycle, some pattern that it was only God's purpose to understand. I couldn't say that to him, of course - Will and I have never been able to say much to each other - but I wanted to show him. A silent promise, if you like, that there was a bigger picture, a brighter future. ~ Jojo Moyes
Baseball And Life quotes by Jojo Moyes
It's a matter of choosing what is most important to you and putting that first. Once you have recognized your true purpose in life, this becomes much easier. ~ Clarence Clemons
Baseball And Life quotes by Clarence Clemons
Juliet knew that, to many people, she might seem to be odd and solitary - and so, in a way, she was. But she had also had the experience, for much of her life, of feeling surrounded by people who wanted to drain away her attention and her time and her soul. And usually, she let them. Be available, be friendly (especially if you are not popular) - that was what you learned in a small town and also in a girls' dormitory. Be accommodating to anybody who wants to suck you dry, even if they know nothing about who you are. She looked straight at this man and did not smile. He saw her resolve, there was a twitch of alarm in his face. ~ Alice Munro
Baseball And Life quotes by Alice Munro
Sometimes a revolution turns into an actual government, or at the very least an actual way of life that contrasts with days past like blood on snow. Such was the case in France, where even as the guillotine released a steady river of gore, Royalist insurrections were suppressed by what had become a sophisticated military.

In Toulon, the Royalist insurrection in 1793 led to an actual siege by republicans, spearheaded by none other than Napoleon Bonaparte. The Royalists in Toulon, supported by the British and Spanish, were feared by the republicans as an existential threat to every hope and promise of the revolution. For months there were bombardments, cannon fire that made the windows in the prison tremble. ~ Kelsey Brickl
Baseball And Life quotes by Kelsey Brickl
Once he got there, he stopped and looked back. You know, the thing about manners is that we only seem to notice the lack of them in others. It's a lot harder to see mistakes in ourselves. ~ Rose Wynters
Baseball And Life quotes by Rose Wynters
The average family spends 30 hours in front of a television, and they say they don't have the time to have a balanced, integrated life. ~ Stephen Covey
