In 1955 flying was much more dangerous than it is now, but there was a party atmosphere aboard long flights and everyone enjoyed the ever-flowing drinks and food. Smoking was the norm and it didn't take long before the cabin was full of smoke. The stewardesses were friendly and I can remember some that were very friendly.

I don't remember much about my time in Lisbon because, before I knew it, we were in the air again heading south across the ocean to the vastness of the North African desert. The light yellow sand under us in Morocco and the Spanish Sahara was endless. The fine sand went from the barren coastal surf and endless miles of beautiful beaches, inland as far as the eye could see.

After a time I saw what I believed, at the time, to be a radio relay station located out on a desolate sand spit near Villa Bens. It was only later that I found out that it was Castelo de Tarfaya, a small fortification on the North African coast. Tarfaya was occupied by the British in 1882, when they established a trading post called Casa del Mar. This forgotten part of the world is now in the southern part of Morocco. ~ Captain Hank Bracker, "Seawater Two...."
Banho De Mar quotes by Captain Hank Bracker,
Si todos los rios son dulces
de donde saca sal el mar?
If all rivers are sweet
where does the sea get its salt? ~ Pablo Neruda
Banho De Mar quotes by Pablo Neruda
She was beautiful and radiant. He remembered the concern in her eyes. The same concern drove her now, pushing her toward acts of violence. On the surface, he'd be a fool to turn her down. She was driven by tragedy, just like him, and she would be incorruptible, just like him. He needed a blade to kill, but she could kill dozens at once empty-handed. She was Death, and she had just asked to be his ally. ~ Ilona Andrews
Banho De Mar quotes by Ilona Andrews
Wanderer, your footsteps are the road, and nothing more; wanderer, there is no road, the road is made by walking. By walking one makes the road, and upon glancing behind one sees the path that never will be trod again. Wanderer, there is no road-- Only wakes upon the sea.

~ Antonio Machado
Banho De Mar quotes by Antonio Machado
Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino y nada más;
Caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace el camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante, no hay camino
sino estelas en la mar."

Traveler, your footprints
are the only road, nothing else.
Traveler, there is no road;
you make your own path as you walk.
As you walk, you make your own road,
and when you look back
you see the path
you will never travel again.
Traveler, there is no road;
only a ship's wake on the sea.

Translated by Mary G. Berg and Dennis Maloney ~ Antonio Machado
Banho De Mar quotes by Antonio Machado
Creativity gives the possibility of some sort of achievement to everyone. ~ Edward De Bono
Banho De Mar quotes by Edward De Bono
If we could have a little patience, we should escape much mortification; time takes away as much as it gives. ~ Marie De Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise De Sevigne
Banho De Mar quotes by Marie De Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise De Sevigne
One cannot reign innocently: the insanity of doing so is evident. Every king is a rebel and a usurper. ~ Louis Antoine De Saint-Just
Banho De Mar quotes by Louis Antoine De Saint-Just
Time in a bookstore is a selection process. You touch the spines, one by one, until your finger lands on the desired work. Marinovich calls this accidental research, because, at times, your finger slips and you land on the wrong book. That wrong book can ultimately be the most important book in your life -- as if, for once, it was the book that chose you. ~ Saskia De Rothschild
Banho De Mar quotes by Saskia De Rothschild
We often boast that we are never bored; but yet we are so conceited that we do not perceive how often we bore others. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Banho De Mar quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them. ~ Anthony De Mello
Banho De Mar quotes by Anthony De Mello
I have lived a great deal among grown-ups. I have seen them intimately, close at hand. And that hasn't much improved my opinion of them. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Banho De Mar quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
What is denominated discretion in man we call cunning in brutes. ~ Jean De La Fontaine
Banho De Mar quotes by Jean De La Fontaine
We would often be ashamed of our best actions if the world only knew the motives behind them. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Banho De Mar quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
To place a man in a multi-stage rocket and project him into the controlling gravitational field of the moon where the passengers can make scientific observations, perhaps land alive, and then return to earth - all that constitutes a wild dream worthy of Jules Verne. ~ Lee De Forest
Banho De Mar quotes by Lee De Forest
This is my friend Durandarte, flower and mirror of the true lovers and valiant knights of his time. He is held enchanted here, as I myself and many others are, by that French enchanter Merlin, who, they say, was the devil's son; but my belief is, not that he was the devil's son, but that he knew, as the saying is, a point more than the devil. ~ Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Banho De Mar quotes by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Stupidity and wisdom meet in the same centre of sentiment and resolution, in the suffering of human accidents. ~ Michel De Montaigne
Banho De Mar quotes by Michel De Montaigne
I tried to do the impossible on paper
beat the middleweight champ coming up from 130 pounds. ~ Oscar De La Hoya
Banho De Mar quotes by Oscar De La Hoya
While Elstir, at my request, went on painting, I wandered about in the half-light, stopping to examine first one picture, then another.
Most of those that covered the walls were not what I should chiefly have liked to see of his work, paintings in what an English art journal which lay about on the reading-room table in the Grand Hotel called his first and second manners, the mythological manner and the manner in which he shewed signs of Japanese influence, both admirably exemplified, the article said, in the collection of Mme. de Guermantes. Naturally enough, what he had in his studio were almost all seascapes done here, at Balbec. But I was able to discern from these that the charm of each of them lay in a sort of metamorphosis of the things represented in it, analogous to what in poetry we call metaphor, and that, if God the Father had created things by naming them, it was by taking away their names or giving them other names that Elstir created them anew. ~ Marcel Proust
Banho De Mar quotes by Marcel Proust
It is a good sign when He burdens us with [crosses] and we carry them well, but woe to the person who runs away from them, for he will find such heavy ones that they will overwhelm him. ~ Vincent De Paul
Banho De Mar quotes by Vincent De Paul
Only in solitude do we find ourselves; and in finding ourselves, we find in ourselves all our brothers in solitude. ~ Miguel De Unamuno
Banho De Mar quotes by Miguel De Unamuno
It is with many enterprises as with striking fire; we do not meet with success except by reiterated efforts, and often at the instant when we despaired of success. ~ Francoise D'Aubigne, Marquise De Maintenon
Banho De Mar quotes by Francoise D'Aubigne, Marquise De Maintenon
I went to Cal Arts and AFI, and I worked on 'Bonfire Of The Vanities.' I got this grant from the Academy to be Brian De Palma's apprentice director. And it was such a harrowing, disillusioning, awful experience. ~ Douglas Rushkoff
Banho De Mar quotes by Douglas Rushkoff
Is it possible your pragmatical worship should not know that the comparisons made between wit and wit, courage and courage, beauty and beauty, birth and birth, are always odious and ill taken?. ~ Miguel De Cervantes
Banho De Mar quotes by Miguel De Cervantes
Delicacy is to love what grace is to beauty. ~ Francoise D'Aubigne, Marquise De Maintenon
Banho De Mar quotes by Francoise D'Aubigne, Marquise De Maintenon
But this is a general objection of the sceptical sort to all miracles of whatever kind, and leadeth anon into the quagmire of arguments about Free Will. The Adept will do better to rely upon The Book of the Law , which urgeth constantly to action. Even rash action is better than none, by that Light; let the Magician then argue that his folly is part of the natural order which worketh all so well.
- Liber DCXXXIII De Thaumaturgia ~ Aleister Crowley
Banho De Mar quotes by Aleister Crowley
I needed to believe that those on whom I depended for my orientations were more fixed and enduring that myself. So as to know where to return to. So as to continue existing. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Banho De Mar quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
I have never come away from you without reflecting that the Spirit of God and His holy workings reside in you. ~ Vincent De Paul
Banho De Mar quotes by Vincent De Paul
Similarly, Medusa (or Gorgon) was celebrated for her outstanding beauty. She was a daughter of the very wealthy king Phorcys whose large kingdom was surrounded by the sea. This Medusa, according to the ancient stories, was of such striking beauty that not only did she surpass all other women--which was an amazing and supernatural thing--but she also attracted to herself, because of her pleasing appearance--her long and curly blond hair spun like gold, along with her beautiful face and body--every mortal creature upon whom she looked, so that she seemed to make people immovable. For this reason the fable claimed that they had turned to stone. ~ Christine De Pizan
Banho De Mar quotes by Christine De Pizan
It is not easy to live with another person, at least it is not easy for me. It makes me realize how selfish I am. It has not been easy for me to love another person either, though I am getting better at it. I can be gentle for as long as a month at a time now, before I become selfish again. I used to try to study what it meant to love someone. I would write down quotations from the works of famous writers, writers who did not interest me otherwise, like Hippolyte Taine or Alfred de Musset. For instance, Taine said that to love is to make one's goal the happiness of another person. I would try to apply this to my own situation. But if loving a person meant putting him before myself, how could I do that? There seemed to be three choices: to give up trying to love anyone, to stop being selfish, or to learn how to love a person while continuing to be selfish. I did not think I could manage the first two, but I thought I could learn how to be just unselfish enough to love someone at least part of the time. ~ Lydia Davis
Banho De Mar quotes by Lydia Davis
Poor tired Tim! It's sad for him He lags the long bright morning through, Ever so tired of nothing to do. ~ Walter De La Mare
Banho De Mar quotes by Walter De La Mare
A successful work will draw out the features capable of exciting a sense of beauty and interest in the spectator. ~ Alain De Botton
Banho De Mar quotes by Alain De Botton
Oh, I dasn't, Mars Tom. Ole missis she'd take an' tar de head off'n me. 'Deed she would. ~ Mark Twain
Banho De Mar quotes by Mark Twain
People should learn to see and so avoid all danger. Just as a wise man keeps away from mad dogs, so one should not make friends with evil men." - Buddha ~ Gavin De Becker
Banho De Mar quotes by Gavin De Becker
The heart of man will never find true peace, if it does not empty itself of all that is not God, so as to free itself all free for His love, that He alone may possess the whole of it. But this the soul cannot do of itself; it must obtain it of God by repeated prayers. ~ Alfonso Maria De Liguori
Banho De Mar quotes by Alfonso Maria De Liguori
She is still forming her conclusions but, above all, is convinced that their actions are borne of instinct: fixed patterns that take them to their source of food, to their safe havens, to their mates, and, ultimately, to their death, since their predators learn these patterns as surely as if they, too, had read Maud's book. ~ Emmanuelle De Maupassant
Banho De Mar quotes by Emmanuelle De Maupassant
My predecessor, P. W. Botha, had an inner circle, and I did not like it. I preferred decisions to evolve out of cabinet discussions. That way, we achieved real co-ownership of our policies. ~ F. W. De Klerk
Banho De Mar quotes by F. W. De Klerk
I'd admired him, and yes, lusted after him, but then I'd fallen. Fallen for a man who felt too much and took on too much, who believed if only he worked tirelessly and ceaselessly enough, that he could improve the lives of an entire race of people. And I'd had that depth of passion turned on me – seen it in his eyes, felt it in my heart. He loved me, and I loved him. And I'd love him as long as I lived, and if my soul endured, I'd love him for eternity ~ Danielle L. Jensen
Banho De Mar quotes by Danielle L. Jensen
From a distance it is something; and nearby it is nothing. ~ Jean De La Fontaine
Banho De Mar quotes by Jean De La Fontaine
In order to know virtue, we must acquaint ourselves with vice. Only then can we know the true measure of a man. ~ Marquis De Sade
Banho De Mar quotes by Marquis De Sade
These gentlemen, although of the highest nobility,' thought Julien, 'are not in the least boring like the people who come to dine with M. de La Mole; and I can see why,' he added a moment later,'they are not ashamed to be indecent. ~ Stendhal
Banho De Mar quotes by Stendhal
All general judgments are loose and imperfect ~ Michel De Montaigne
Banho De Mar quotes by Michel De Montaigne
A discussion should be a genuine attempt to explore a subject rather than a battle between competing egos. ~ Edward De Bono
Banho De Mar quotes by Edward De Bono
I should like to find a crime with perpetual repercussions, which would continue even after I had ceased to act, so there would not be a single instant of my life, not even when I was asleep, when I would not be causing some sort of disorder, a disorder so extensive as to involve general corruption, or so absolute a disturbance that its effect would be prolonged even when my life had ceased. ~ Marquis De Sade
Banho De Mar quotes by Marquis De Sade
