If you cannot undo what you have done, you are trapped. It is easy to understand how helpless and hopeless you then feel and why you might want to give up ... Restoring what you cannot restore, healing the wound you cannot heal, fixing that which you broke and you cannot fix is the very purpose of the atonement of Christ. ~ Robert L. Millet
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Robert L. Millet
And, therefore, seeing he doth not intercede and pray for every one, he did not die for every one. ~ John Owen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Owen
Now, the atonement of Christ is the most basic and fundamental doctrine of the gospel, and it is the least understood of all our revealed truths.

Many of us have a superficial knowledge and rely upon the Lord and his goodness to see us through the trials and perils of life.

But if we are to have faith like Enoch and Elijah we must believe what they believed, know what they knew, and live as they lived.

May I invite you to join with me in gaining a sound and sure knowledge of the Atonement.

We must cast aside the philosophies of men and the wisdom of the wise and hearken to that Spirit which is given to us to guide us into all truth.

We must search the scriptures, accepting them as the mind and will and voice of the Lord and the very power of God unto salvation.

As we read, ponder, and pray, there will come into our minds a view of the three gardens of God - the Garden of Eden, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Garden of the Empty Tomb where Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene. ~ Bruce R. McConkie
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Bruce R. McConkie
The Savior asks us to repent not just to repay him for paying our debt to justice, but also to induce us to undergo the personal development that will purify our very nature. The 'natural man' will remain an enemy to God forever - even after paying for his own sins - unless he also 'becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord.' (Mosiah 3:19.) ~ Bruce C. Hafen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Bruce C. Hafen
The whole essence of the Christian religion is based on the atonement of Christ, his death and his resurrection. ~ Gordon B. Hinckley
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Gordon B. Hinckley
Jesus Christ died to save us from our sins; we tend to concentrate on that merciful fact. But isn't it also true He lived to show us a lifestyle free from sin? So, wouldn't following in his footsteps be something like preventative medicine? ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
Each of us will taste the bitter ashes of life, from sin and neglect to sorrow and disappointment. But the atonement of Christ can lift us up in beauty from our ashes on the wings of a sure promise of immortality and eternal life. He will thus lift us up, not only at the end of life, but in each day of our lives. ~ Bruce C. Hafen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Bruce C. Hafen
I cannot conceive an intention in God that Christ should satisfy his justice for the sin of them that were in hell some thousands of years before, and yet be still resolved to continue their punishment on them to all eternity. ~ John Owen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Owen
First, it is clear that Christ died to procure for us an actual reconciliation with God, and not only a power for us to be reconciled unto him; for 'when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son,' Rom. v. 10. ~ John Owen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Owen
Christ is the meritorious cause of the bestowing of those good gifts, faith and constancy unto martyrdom, upon you. ~ John Owen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Owen
Secondly, the proper counsel and intention of God in sending his Son into the world to die was, that thereby he might confirm and ratify the new covenant to his elect, and purchase for them all the good things which are contained in the tenure of that covenant, - to wit, grace and glory; that by his death he might bring many (yet some certain) children to glory, obtaining for them that were given unto him by his Father (that is, his whole church) reconciliation with God, remission of sins, faith, righteousness, sanctification, and life eternal. ~ John Owen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Owen
The Atonement of Christ is the most transcendental event that has ever occurred or that will ever occur, since the sunrise of creation to all ages of eternity ~ Bruce R. McConkie
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Bruce R. McConkie
The glory of the cross is bound up with the effectiveness of its accomplishment. ~ John Murray
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Murray
The death of Christ is their meritorious cause; the Spirit of God and his effectual grace their efficient, working instrumentally with power by the word and ordinances. ~ John Owen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Owen
Arminians pretend, very speciously, that Christ died for all men, yet, in effect, they make him die for no one man at all. ~ John Owen
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Owen
Do all that you can to make your baptismal services a spiritual, Christ-centered experience. A new convert deserves to have this be a sacred, carefully planned, and spiritually uplifting moment. The prayers, the hymns, surely the talks that are given-all ought to be focused on the significance of this ordinance and the Atonement of Christ, which makes it efficacious. ~ Jeffrey R. Holland
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Jeffrey R. Holland
The English word Atonement comes from the ancient Hebrew word kaphar, which means to cover. When Adam and Eve partook of the fruit and discovered their nakedness in the Garden of Eden, God sent Jesus to make coats of skins to cover them. Coats of skins don't grow on trees. They had to be made from an animal, which meant an animal had to be killed. Perhaps that was the very first animal sacrifice. Because of that sacrifice, Adam and Eve were covered physically. In the same way, through Jesus' sacrifice we are also covered emotionally and spiritually. When Adam and Eve left the garden, the only things they could take to remind them of Eden were the coats of skins. The one physical thing we take with us out of the temple to remind us of that heavenly place is a similar covering. The garment reminds us of our covenants, protects us, and even promotes modesty. However, it is also a powerful and personal symbol of the Atonement - a continuous reminder both night and day that because of Jesus' sacrifice, we are covered. (I am indebted to Guinevere Woolstenhulme, a religion teacher at BYU, for insights about kaphar.)

Jesus covers us (see Alma 7) when we feel worthless and inadequate. Christ referred to himself as "Alpha and Omega" (3 Nephi 9:18). Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Christ is surely the beginning and the end. Those who study statistics learn that the letter alpha is used to represent the level of significance in a research ~ Brad Wilcox
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Brad Wilcox
The gift of the Holy Ghost, which is the right to receive the Holy Ghost as a constant companion, is obtained only upon condition of faith in Christ, repentance, baptism by immersion, and the laying on of hands by authorized servants endowed with the Melchizedek Priesthood. ~ Joseph B. Wirthlin
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Joseph B. Wirthlin
Each and every member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bears a personal responsibility to learn and live the truths of the Savior's restored gospel and to receive by proper authority the ordinances of salvation. We should not expect the Church as an organization to teach or tell us all of the things we need to know and do to become devote disciples and endure valiantly to the end (see Doctrine and Covenants 121:29). Rather, our individual responsibility is to learn what we should learn, to live as we know we should live, and to become what the Master would have us become. . . .

Our individual responsibility to learn truth, to love truth, and to live according to truth is increasingly important in a world that is "in commotion" (Doctrine and Covenants 45:26) and grows ever more confused and wicked. We cannot expect simply to attend Church meetings and to participate in programs and thereby receive all of the spiritual fortification and protection that will enable us to "withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand" (Ephesians 6:13). Certainly inspired leaders and activities help and support individual and family efforts to grow spiritually. But the ultimate responsibility for developing spiritual strength and stamina rests upon each and every member of the Church. ~ David A. Bednar
Atonement Of Christ quotes by David A. Bednar
When I look back upon my own religious experience," says Andrew Murray, "or round upon the Church of Christ in the world, I stand amazed at the thought of how little humility is sought after as the distinguishing feature of the discipleship of Jesus. In preaching and living, in the daily intercourse of the home and social life, in the more special fellowship with Christians, in the direction and performance of work for Christ - alas! how much proof there is that humility is not esteemed the cardinal virtue, the only root from which the graces can grow, the one indispensable condition of true fellowship with Jesus. ~ D.L. Moody
Atonement Of Christ quotes by D.L. Moody
Dream of yoking a gnat with an archangel, and then imagine that you can help your Lord in the work of salvation. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
We prepare the ground for our prayer when we shed something which is not Christ's, which is unworthy of him, and only the prayer of one who can, like St. Paul say, 'I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me,' is real Christian prayer. ~ Anthony Of Sourozh
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Anthony Of Sourozh
Arise, soldiers of Christ, throw away the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. ~ Saint Cecilia
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Saint Cecilia
Pick a man, any man. Every guy I fall for becomes Jesus Christ within the first twenty-four hours of our relationship. I know that this happens, I see it happening, I even feel myself, sometimes, standing at some temporal crossroads, some distinct moment at which I can walk away and keep it from happening, but I never do. I grab at everything, I end up with nothing, and then I feel bereft. I mourn for the loss of something I never even had. ~ Elizabeth Wurtzel
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Elizabeth Wurtzel
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost."
"And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." - Moroni ~ Joseph Smith Jr.
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Joseph Smith Jr.
Behold it is time, yea, the time is now at hand, that except ye do bestir yourselves in the defence of your country and your little ones, the asword of justice doth hang over you; yea, and it shall fall upon you and visit you even to your utter destruction. ~ The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Atonement Of Christ quotes by The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I feel compelled to make another 'nonapology.' Many readers are likely to be concerned about my use of masculine pronouns in relation to God. I think I both understand and appreciate this concern. It is a matter to which I have given much thought. I have generally been a strong supporter of the women's movement and action that is reasonable to combat sexist language. But first of all, God is not neuter. He is exploding with life and love and even sexuality of a sort. So 'It' is not appropriate. Certainly I consider God androgynous. He is as gentle and tender and nurturing and maternal as any woman could ever be. Nonetheless, culturally determined though it may be, I subjectively experience His reality as more masculine than feminine. While He nurtures us, He also desires to penetrate us, and while we more often than not flee from His love like a reluctant virgin, He chases after us with a vigor in the hunt that we most typically associate with males. As CS Lewis put it, in relation to God we are all female. Moreover, whatever our gender or conscious theology, it is our duty---our obligation---in response to His love to attempt to give birth, like Mary, to Christ in ourselves and in others.

"I shall, however, break with tradition and use the neuter for Satan. While I know Satan to be lustful to penetrate us, I have not in the least experienced this desire as sexual or creative---only hateful and destructive. It is hard to determine the sex of a snake. ~ M. Scott Peck
Atonement Of Christ quotes by M. Scott Peck
I sometimes find, especially among my peers, that authenticity is not a ... means of growing in holiness, but a convenient cover for endless introspection, doubt, uncertainty, anger, and worldliness. So that if other Christians seem pure, assured, and happy we despise them for being inauthentic.
Granted, the church shouldn't be happy-clappy naive about life's struggles. Plenty of psalms show us godly ways to be real with our negative emotions. But the church should not apologize for preaching a confident Christ and exhorting us to trust Him in all things. Church is not meant to foster an existential crisis of faith every week ~ Kevin DeYoung
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Kevin DeYoung
The organized charity, scrimped and iced, In the name of a cautious, statistical Christ. ~ John Boyle O'Reilly
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John Boyle O'Reilly
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. ~ Jesus Christ
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Jesus Christ
I could never myself believe in God, if it were not for the cross. The only God I believe in is the One Nietzsche ridiculed as 'God on the cross.' In the real world of pain, how could one worship a God who was immune to it? I have entered many Buddhist temples in different Asian countries and stood respectfully before the statue of the Buddha, his legs crossed, arms folded, eyes closed, the ghost of a smile playing round his mouth, a remote look on his face, detached from the agonies of the world. But each time after a while I have had to turn away. And in imagination I have turned instead to that lonely, twisted, tortured figure on the cross, nails through hands and feet, back lacerated, limbs wrenched, brow bleeding from thorn-pricks, mouth dry and intolerably thirsty, plunged in Godforsaken darkness. That is the God for me! He laid aside his immunity to pain. He entered our world of flesh and blood, tears and death. He suffered for us. Our sufferings become more manageable in the light of his. There is still a question mark against human suffering, but over it we boldly stamp another mark, the cross that symbolizes divine suffering. 'The cross of Christ ... is God's only self-justification in such a world" as ours....' 'The other gods were strong; but thou wast weak; they rode, but thou didst stumble to a throne; But to our wounds only God's wounds can speak, And not a god has wounds, but thou alone. ~ John R.W. Stott
Atonement Of Christ quotes by John R.W. Stott
The failure to return thanks for definite blessings received is a manifestation of ingratitude that grieves Jesus Christ. ~ R.A. Torrey
Atonement Of Christ quotes by R.A. Torrey
Apart from this ultimate hope, the created world would be a dungeon of despair for God's children. But faith animates our lives with an eschatological anticipation of the presence and glory of Christ. We will not find our full and permanent happiness here. Nor will we find Christian joy automatically, like a daily newspaper at the door. God intends for us to find joy kinetically, in action, as we work out our faith with fear and trembling, as we fight the good fight of faith, as we worship, fellowship, and engage in all the various dynamics of the Christian life together.62 But even in this, our hope of eternal joy sobers our expectations for the joy we can expect to experience in this life. ~ Tony Reinke
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Tony Reinke
To eat bread is one thing; to love the precepts of Christ and resolve to obey them is quite another. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them, and have hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people.

Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews? ~ The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Atonement Of Christ quotes by The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
upload a recent photo", some people interpreted that to mean anytime after the birth of Christ. ~ Christie Walker Bos
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Christie Walker Bos
Baptism is a sign to God, to angels, and to heaven that we do the will of God, and there is no other way beneath the heavens whereby God hath ordained for man to come to Him to be saved, and enter into the kingdom of God, except faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, and baptism for the remission of sins, and any other course is in vain; then you have the promise of the gift of the Holy Ghost. ~ Joseph Smith Jr.
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Joseph Smith Jr.
A church without women would be like the apostolic college without Mary. The Madonna is more important than the apostles, and the church herself is feminine, the spouse of Christ and a mother. ~ Pope Francis
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Pope Francis
If God himself bows before His own law, what more can be done? There is more in the atonement by way of merit, than there is in all human sin by way of demerit. The ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
We find not in the Gospel, that Christ hath anywhere provided for the uniformity of churches, but only for their unity. ~ Roger Williams
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Roger Williams
Christmas is about Christ. When we forget that, we lose the true magic of Christmas. ~ Toni Sorenson
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Toni Sorenson
The last verse that became clear to my vision that day was this: "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God's in Christ Jesus for you." ~ Mary C. Neal
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Mary C. Neal
As Christ was born of the Virgin's womb, so must He be spiritually formed in our hearts. As He died for sin, so must we die to sin. And as He rose again from the dead, so must we also rise to a divine life. ~ George Whitefield
Atonement Of Christ quotes by George Whitefield
The level of rhetoric and discourse [in the election season] has been so divisive. I think it is important to remind believers that their identity is in Christ, and that we are called to unity and reconciliation. In my own church there are Republicans, Democrats and Independents. We are wanting to call people to remember that only in Jesus is there ultimate hope. ~ C. Christopher Smith
Atonement Of Christ quotes by C. Christopher Smith
At Christmastime, the whole Christian world stands still to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Christmas cannot be cut out of the calendar nor out of the heart of the world - it is the supreme festive season of mirth and gladness. Love for God and one another should be the Christmas theme. Such was the divine announcement by the heavenly host that first heralded the good tidings of great joy, 'Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men. ~ Franklin D. Richards
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Franklin D. Richards
Christianity is a love relationship between a child of God and his Maker through the Son Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit. ~ Adrian Rogers
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Adrian Rogers
Christ was only crucified once and for a few hours. Think of the hundreds of thousands whom Christ has been crucifying in a quiet way ever since. ~ Samuel Butler
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Samuel Butler
In the modern Christian attempt to take a stand as Christ did, and maybe for others, win the approval of the world, the Christian will often think that it consists of targeting and demoralizing fellow Christians and only fellow Christians. It is one thing to stand against religious hypocrisy when one sees it, but it is another to go on snorting at anything or anyone who might seem 'too Christian' to us. The irony is that by doing this we are further advocating hypocrisy and 'half-hearted Christians'. ~ Criss Jami
Atonement Of Christ quotes by Criss Jami
How wonderful it is being a sheep in the flock of God. Our shepherd is the one that created the grass that we need for pasture, He is the one that created the rivers and the waters, He is the one who holds everything in His hand and He is my Shepherd. ~ Edmond Sanganyado
